Hotokegaura - Mutsu Bay Aomori
After driving around the west coast of Aomori, we took a ferry to the Shimokita Peninsula at the entrance of Mutsu Bay which is on the northeastern side of the prefecture. The peninsula is the most northern point of Honshu and is full of amazing places and scenery.
Along the western coast of the peninsula is Hotokegura, a two kilometre stretch of coastline filled with crazy-shaped, 100 meter tall white rocks and cliffs that have been eaten away by the rough coastal waves and winds. Hotoke means Buddha, and gaura, bay so the area is known as the Buddha Bay as many of the formations are said to resemble Buddhist disciples.
The beach is a steep one-kilometer climb from the car park, going down isn't too bad, but on a hot day it was a slow climb with several stops before we reached our car, but worth every step!
The color of the water and the height of the rock formations were truly magnificent, and unlike any other place in Japan, we have visited.

- Welcome, archaeological Japanists, to the third chapter of prehistoric Japan and continue touring its mythological and magical places. Having said that, put yourself in command and let's begin. - To continue our journey, better late than never, but slowly and with good handwriting. We move to the Sannai Maruyama archaeological site in Aomori prefecture, located in the Tōhoku region. - The wooden structure dates back to the Jomon period, it is a structure that functioned as a great calendar, since something common that all cultures in the world have is worshiping the stars in regards to prehistory. The site dates back to 3900 BC located along the Okidate River at the tip of a gentle hill that extends from the Hakkoda Mountains. - In the 1992s, excavations took place that unearthed the remains of dwellings in wells, graves of adults, children and storage pits, among other traces of daily life. In addition to one there are a large number of stoneware tools. A wide variety of fish and animal bones have been excavated that indicate the eating habits of those people. Nuts such as chestnuts and walnuts were also found. In addition, many organic relics have been unearthed, such as wooden products, bone tools, woven baskets, as well as trade items such as jade, obsidian from remote areas, and asphalt. There is a theory: in Iwate similar structures are created to perform the deer dance. What do you think about it? _ I hope you liked it and see you in future posts my lovers of the Japanese world, have a good week.

A HELPFULL GUIDE TO THE RAMPAGE FROM EXILE TRIBE BY CHU-CHU
Hi Guys! I see that there are many new Rampage fans - Ravers - among us and I would like to introduce the members to you. Other than formal group information, some of it will be my own opinions. You can easily find other official informations about the group on the web. Rather, I want to share with you how I see each member, what impression they made on me, and what I liked or found interesting about them. So please keep in mind that these are my opinions. And of course, I'm not a very old fan either. There may be things I don't know or misunderstand. You can share with me what you want to add or correct 💜
-I am also sharing with you some blogs that I know who is posting about Exile Tribe/The Rampage. You can check them out too 💜I will continue to introduce the members when I have time :') I hope you like it :D 💜
@ataryutaro @banqanas @elenilote @fextsubs @rainisawriter @rowdyshogun @thistaleisabloodyone @zhaolusi (Hope I didn't forget anyone :( )
The Rampage
Tumblr media
A Japanese dance & vocal boy group formed and managed by LDH JAPAN.
16 members: 3 vocalists and 13 performers.
They made their major debut on January 25, 2017 with the single “Lightning”.
Fandom name: Ravers ( RAmpage loVERS)
Formation: September 12, 2014
Debut: January 25, 2017
Genres: J-pop, hip hop, dance pop
Leaders: Likiya and Zin
16 Members: Likiya, Zin, Riku, Kenta, Rui, Yamasho, Kazuma, Hokuto, Iwasho, Shohei, Itsuki,Kaisei, Makoto, Ryu, Takahide and Takuma
And yes they have a hip-hop sub-unit : Ma55ive the Rampage (Likiya, Kenta,Yamasho, Shohei, Takahide)
I also didn’t know this part;
At the beginning it was unclear how many and which candidates would be chosen for the group's final line-up, the members later described the time as a desperate, harsh and stressful "survival situation". According to Kawamura Kazuma, the three vocalists were especially tense and taking the situation very seriously, thinking that one of them was going to be cut, due to the fact that LDH only had a two-vocalist system for all of their boy groups at that point.
But luckily they were all chosen :’)
However, while they were training for their debut in the public eye, the members later revealed that the group had been struggling behind the scenes and actually went on a hiatus the year after they were formed until their debut. Several members mentioned that they considered quitting during that time as it was mentally and physically difficult. Also Fujiwara Itsuki revealed that the members had also been working as staffs of the company behind the scenes in that time period, for example as tour staff for senior groups, or in Fujiwara's case, as staff of EXPG schools.
June 16 had been chosen as "RAVERS DAY". This specific date was selected because it is the only month out of the year that does not have a member's birthday, and because the number "16" is important to the group :D
During the first five years, all members of the group lived together in a dormitory. There were four rooms, and four members lived in each room, sharing bunk beds. Each room also had a room manager.
-I don't plan to mention TV series, movies, awards, songs, albums or tours. I get most of the information from Exile Tribe Wiki, you can read more there :’)

History with Conan: Japan’s Jomon Period (The Sannai Maruyama Site)
The Sannai Maruyama Site is the largest Jomon village, located in Japan’s Aomori Prefecture, in Aomori City. It was built around 3900 to 2200 BCE. At its peak, it's thought that hundreds of people lived there. Many of its buildings have been reconstructed, so you can go and see the site for yourself. They offer tours and have a museum, gift shop, restaurant, and theater (English audio available).
Map of the reconstruction, from left to right:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mitsuhiko: So Jomon buildings weren’t all pit dwellings!
Ayumi: Wow, what a big house!
Genta: The reconstructed big pit dwelling is 15 meters tall?! (nearly 50 feet)
Pillar-supported buildings: These buildings are elevated on pillars sunk into the ground. It’s thought they were used as storehouses.
Big pillar-supported building: A giant building made from 6 chestnut wood pillars with a diameter of around 1 meter (around 3 feet). It’s not clear what its purpose was. The manga in this book depicts it as a watchtower.
Big pit dwelling: Around 32 meters long (around 105 feet), and around 10 meters wide (around 33 feet), this is a giant pit dwelling. It could have been a meetingplace, a collaborative workshop, or a Jomon-style apartment building.
The whole site is around 42 hectares. That’s 42,0000 square meters, or 4,521,000 square feet!
With illustrations and information from History Detective Conan 1: Jomon Period (Time Drifters in a Primitive World). Additional info from the Site’s English language website.

I've made the decision to stay here in Japan for at least another year, and I have a few goals to make me feel like I'm experiencing life here to the fullest. Some (most) of them are silly little goals that feel big because of the language barrier (exacerbated by my natural shyness), but some of them are more exciting goals for sure!
Get my hair cut
Take a ballet or other dance class
Get a library card
Have a 10-minute conversation with a native speaker in Japanese that's not an italki lesson
Make a new Japanese friend
Go to the dentist
Go to a prefecture I haven't been to before*
Sing a Japanese song at karaoke
Go skiing in Zao Onsen (or some other nearby resort)
Try to get a debit card
Be able to point to every prefecture on a map and name their capital cities**
*Prefectures I went to in 2023:
Tokyo
Aichi
Gifu (briefly)
Yamagata
Miyagi
Chiba (I'm not sure going to the airport counts as going somewhere tbh, but it looked very nice from the train window!)
Prefectures I'd like to/plan to visit in 2024
Hokkaido
Aomori
Osaka
Kyoto
Nara
I'm hoping to either do a little tour around Hokkaido/Tohoku in summer OR a little tour around Kansai in winter, depending on what time I can get off when and if I have to go back to the UK in that time. And I may go somewhere for a couple of days for Golden Week, but I've not decided.
**Prefectures I can currently point to on a map:
Hokkaido (capital: Sapporo ☑️)
Aomori (capital: Aomori ☑️)
Akita (capital: Akita ☑️)
Iwate (capital: Morioka ◻️)
Yamagata (capital: Yamagata ☑️)
Miyagi (capital: Sendai ☑️)
Fukushima (capital: Fukushima ☑️)
Niigata (capital: Niigata ◻️)
Chiba (capital: Chiba ☑️)
Okinawa (capital: Naha ◻️)
I also know the rough locations of: Gunma, Tokyo, Ibaraki, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Yamanashi, Saitama, Aichi, Gifu, Ishikawa, Nagano and Fukuoka

tokyo tohoku trip - day 3.
after a good night sleep, we woke up to really beautiful snow view at the resort, this snowy scene never gets old. and of course we enjoyed the onsen once again, it was just so so amazing. we had breakfast at the resort’s restaurant which is japanese buffet style, and they use many local ingredients as well. i love the variety and all the food is really fresh and taste so delicious, i ate quite a lot and was fully stuffed and satisfied.
played in the snow again for a bit because it’s a rare chance and i really enjoyed it. XD while waiting for the next bus, we also had coffee and coffee jelly soft serve and just chill at the lounge area which is relaxing and comfortable. the bus ride going back to town is lovely, there’s less snow in town of course, and we arrived at our next destination with really nice weather without any snowing.
sannai maruyama ruins 三内丸山遺跡 is a popular tourist attraction in aomori, and it looks beautiful with lots of history to learn, hence we decided to visit the place to just walk around. they do have free guided tours but the timing wasn’t very suitable so we just roam around ourselves which is totally fine too.
the place has a indoor section which plays movie (in japanese) and display some artifacts with description, but the outdoor section is the gem, and it’s just so beautiful. my friend visited this place many times but never once when it is covered in snow, and she love the view as well. the outdoor site has lots of buildings that you can get into, to see the actual site of the ruins and artifacts, and the structures are beautiful in its own way and great for photos. it was an awesome walk, definitely highly recommended.
we decided to go to ASPAM アスパム that is nearby aomori station for lunch, there’s a japanese restaurant with a great view of the bay area on the 10th floor - michinoku cuisine nishimura みちのく料理 西むら. we ordered their set meals which is mainly seafood. i had the baked hotate with egg, fish soup and hotate sashimi with rice and pickles. my friend ordered the kaisen don which has so much fresh seafood on rice. the food here is really good, seafood is fresh and taste is so appetizing, it was so satisfying, and the bonus is the great view outside the window which is calming.
after lunch, we head to aomori station as we need to take the local train to misawa station for our next hotel for the night - hoshino resorts aomoriya 星野リゾート 青森屋. this resort is one of many resorts under hoshino group of hotels, and this place has lots of unique activities you can do during your stay, besides food and onsen. the resort does pick us up from the station which is very convenient.
the resort area is quite beautiful with a lot of greens and flowers and trees. there’s an entire area filled with many things like shops, games, an izakaya, a performance show, and an apple juice tap, which taste really nice. the shop has lot of local souvenir variety, but it’s definitely slightly more pricey. we couldn’t catch the performance as all seats were already booked. but the nebuta float decorations are still beautiful to look at.
we took a short rest in our spacious hotel room before going to dinner. dinner was awesome, it’s buffet style and half of the food is cooked freshly at each stall, which is so good, the smell increase our appetites and everything truly taste good. i enjoyed so much of sashimi, grilled seafood, tempura, vegetables, and many other japanese dishes. for some reason, japanese buffet is very enjoyable and the variety just makes me happy. it was definitely a very satisfying meal, and i discovered i really liked apple tempura so much, didn’t expect that.
after a fulfilling dinner, we decided to take a walk outside the pond area, it’s litted with japanese style lanterns, there’s also a foot bath in the area, with a shrine in the middle of the pond with beautiful light up nebuta decorations. it was a very peaceful and relaxing walk, even if it is dark, but it just feel so comfortable with the beautiful night view, we also got to see stars in the sky, which is impossible in the city, that made me feel so good.
the night is not complete without a relaxing bath in the onsen, there’s an outdoor onsen in this resort, with a view of a nebuta float, how amazing is that. while the onsen was quite crowded, it still feels so good and comfortable as the onsen is quite spacious. the bath amenities is also very complete, so it’s super convenient. i love outdoor onsen so much because the bath is hot but the air is cooling, it’s super comfortable and relaxing and you get to stay in the hot spring so much longer. a relaxing hot spring is the perfect way to end the night for a good night sleep.
to be continued...

All over the world, scenic rail tours have been revived as an alternative to traditional sightseeing. Japan is no exception. A special term has even been coined in the Japanese language to describe those who are pleasantly obsessed with rail travel – densha otaku, literally translated “train nerd.”
This local rail route is very popular across Japan for the way it skims past the Sea of Japan coastline. The Resort Shirakami is a leisure train where you can even be treated to shamisen (a traditional Japanese 3-stringed lute) performances with Japanese vocals sung in the Tsugaru dialect.
“It feels like the ocean is rushing up close to the train as it passes the coastline. It was really exciting.”
This line takes you to the northernmost reaches of the island of Honshu, from Akita Prefecture to Aomori Prefecture. This northern exposure makes the Gono Line ideal for winter viewing of Japan scenery. The rail line often runs alongside the Sea of Japan, placing you between the inland snowscape and the “raging winter seas” common to northern Japan, complete with mystical natural rock formations.
Views from the Gono Line have been described as “some of the best coastal scenery of any railway in the world.” You’ll also be treated to views of the beautiful Mount Iwaki.
