it's always "mental health matters!!1!" until someone copes in a way they don't like . god forbid someone says "these two fictional siblings kiss" that would be just horrible 😔😔

If you ever want to scare antis just go, “oOOoo dark themes in fiction that aren’t explicitly condemned by the narrative OooOOoo!👻”

I am so tired of antis speculating if an author endorses the problematic topic in question or not.
1.) It is very easy to lie about these things
2.) It is very easy to lie to yourself about those things.
3.) People's beliefs change over time, so an author could change their minds on the subject.
And
4.) It doesn't fucking matter, since most people above the age of 10 don't form their opinions on things based on how one author portrays it in fiction. Hypothetically, even if the author was supporting whatever stupid thing you claim they are, any harm that comes to real people is still on you.

sometimes you see an annoyingly unnecessary take on a post and you know they're gonna have proship dni in bio
example from just now: an image of someone holding up a cat with scratches all over their arms drawn on, captioned "cat owners be like "ohh I love my cat!"
and someone qrted "idk what you're talking about maybe because I actually respect my cat's boundaries"
like.... that is such an unnecessary addition to a joke. pretty sure the "cats scratch their humans for various reasons" joke has existed for a while. did you want to feel superior or something
anyways I checked their carrd and not only did they have "maps/proship dni" in their carrd but also on the dni list was "mspec lesbians" and "if you enjoy the yandere trope"

Nowadays when I see a callout post- especially one about pedophilia or zoophilia, I skip it, cuz most are talking about fiction or like an artist with 2 followers...
Girl, callouts should ONLY be to allert people of an actual danger, a real groomer, someone drawing bill cipher and dipper pines having the rawest sex imaginable to the human mind is NOT a danger, thats a discomfort, and thats not callout worthy.
Like you DO realize that a LOT less people are looking at callouts now, even if there IS a real child/animal abuser being called out, because you idiots call out drawings, right? Thank god when I was being groomed your movement was minimal cuz my groomer might of gotten futher into grooming me ALL cuz ya all make callouts pointless- HELL- it pains me to know people are being groomed rn because one too many people keep making callouts for pointless shit.

Cringe started as a verb describing a physical reaction, i.e.: "I cringe when I see [x]."
Modern slang has turned cringe into an adjective describing anything to which a person might have such a reaction.
.
This shift in language is illustrative of a shift in culture.
.
For a while there, in the early 2000s, there was this big sex positivity movement and we talked openly about kink and queer sexuality and creating a culture of consent that broke away from traditional conservative ideas of moral respectability.
And now we are in the midst of this giant purity culture backlash, this giant push for rigid conformity all over the internet. Anything that deviates from the norm even remotely is ridiculed.
And this cultural shift is perfectly encapsulated in this singular linguistic shift, this verb becoming a noun.
The Revenge of the Pearl Clutchers
That's what "cringing" is. It's pearl clutching.
When the pearl clutchers turned cringe into an adjective, they turned a reaction into an accusation. The pearl clutchers don't want to take responsibility for their own kneejerk emotions. They want to blame YOU.
They are saying, "My disgust isn't the fault of my own backwards prejudices. It is YOU who are inherently disgusting. My inability to cope with even the slightest deviation from norm is not the problem here. YOUR refusal to rigidly conform is the problem. I am not the one who is cringing. YOU are the one who is cringe."
Fuck 'em.
.
Take the word back.
Cringe is not something people are.
It's something judgmental assholes do.

I´ve lately seen many young peeps in fandom spaces, worrying about openly shipping their ships because of what antis might do
so let me tell you something:
antis are huge losers who are gonna find something to hate you for no matter what you do
even if you ship EXACTLY what they ship, theyre gonna yell at you for "not shipping it right"
so, my piece of advice: just do whatever you want and tear up the house! antis are gonna hate no matter what, so ignore them and find some good companions by being yourself

Once you start harassing people over their tastes in fiction, you've gone too far.
You should not be sending anon hate.
You should not be telling people to kill themselves.
You should not be contacting people's family members, job, or school.
You should not be sending people gore.
You should not be telling people that they deserve their trauma.
You should not be attacking people over liking something fictional. At that point, you're the problem. Not the person making things you don't like, YOU. Harassment is never acceptable.

Repeat after me:
It is OKAY to have content preferences and to be uncomfortable with certain ships or topics, controversial or not. It is OKAY to distance yourself from such content and block certain tags or creators.
It is NOT OKAY to actively hate and harass real people for creating content of fictional characters that features things that make you uncomfortable.

I've seen a surge of antis calling themselves punk/alt, and I just wanna make this clear:
Book-burning conservatives are not punk, sorry... :/

A common complaint I've seen about the proship community is that we don't take callouts seriously enough. Which, understandable!
But my 2 cents is that when "this user is an actual child predator", "this user ships minor/adult ships" and "this user is against harassing people over minor/adult ships" are treated with the same amount of severity, it is genuinely difficult to determine if someone is an actual threat to others.
If I see a callout post with evidence that could easily be doctored, or no evidence, its easy to assume that antis are making it up to ruin lives, considering the batshit insane shit antis send me on the reg.

Ao3 authors, please learn to not insult people and be “morally superior” in the tags
Instead of tagging “noncon is gross” or “not noncon because that’s problematic”, for example, just put “enthusiastic consent” or “consensual sex” in the tags. It makes things a whole lot easier for people to filter and know what’s going on.
I really don’t care that you think noncon fics are bad or whatever, I (and many others) will be more likely to read your fic about two boys who are deeply in love if you aren’t an ass about your morals in fiction :/
