Another tour bites the dust as The Agonist pull plug on European shows
The Agonist have cancelled all their 2023 summer European dates to save themselves from "financial jeopardy"
Tumblr media
The Agonist have cancelled all of their planned shows in Europe this summer to avoid losing "a dangerous amount of money."
The Canadian melodic death metal band released a candid statement on their decision to pull the plug on their planned European dates.
They say: "We must unfortunately announce that we cannot make any EU summer shows this year. The reasons are a combination of multiple factors. You guys probably all know by now how expensive touring is at the moment – it’s been a hot topic.
"Rising costs are affecting everyone now, from legacy bands to local bands, and we are no exception to that. Unfortunately, if we went to Europe on our current arrangement, we would stand to lose a dangerous amount of money, putting ourselves in financial jeopardy. We hope you understand this difficult choice."
The Agonist had announced a number of European festival appearances, all of which have been cancelled.
They're not the only band to cancel planned dates recently. This week, Anthrax cancelled a string of European festival dates. And last year, they pulled out of 20 shows in Europe as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, blaming spiralling costs.
On their latest cancellations, Anthrax say: "To all our friends in Europe. Due to a series of logistical and scheduling issues, we won’t be able to make it to Europe this summer for the festivals we were set to perform at. We’re really disappointed about this, and want you to know that a solid – and overdue – European tour is a priority for us. Lots of exciting things are in the pipeline, so stay tuned."

August 11, 2022
My  wife and i drove over 700 miles to Atlanta from South Florida to see Anthrax in concert for their 40th anniversary tour.
They played at the Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta. It's a badass venure that used to be a church back in the day.
Let me just say that you don't simply attend an Anthrax concert, you experience it; you survive it.
They opened up with Among the Living which got the crowd jumping and they never let up.

Scott Ian is in my opinion one of the best rhythm guitarists alive. Only James Hetfield comes close. Scott not only maintains the speed and precision Anthrax fans have come to expect from their music but he does it while running back and forth on stage and at the same time engaging with the crowd.
Tumblr media
Joey Belladonna's singing sounded as good at 62 years old as when I first heard him in the early 80's. He hit those high notes effortlessly. Incredible performance!
They played all their best hits like Madhouse, Caught in a Mosh, Antisocial, etc. They even played up to the first chorus of Bring the Noise.
One of the things that makes Anthrax a great live band is so many of their songs encourage srowd participation with chanting the chorus so you wind up waking up the next day with a raspy throat due to all the shouting the night before.
I hope I get another chance to see these guys.

40th anniversary of the 1983 album, which contains eternal classics from the British band such as «Where Eagles Dare», «Die with Your Boots On» and, of course, one of the most successful singles by Steve Harris and company. Upward, you can now see the alternative cover of the special edition, with the iconic Eddie as «The Trooper». Is it?!🤣🤘🏻
Eddie's dream!
With a solid history of collaborations with metal legends such as ANTHRAX and KING DIAMOND, among others, Z2 Comics spared no effort in “Iron Maiden: Piece Of Mind”. The book features a series of stories based on the album's songs, including one written by vocalist Bruce Dickinson and one written by Rod Smallwood, the band's longtime manager.

Iron Maiden and Z2 Comics Announce Piece of Mind Graphic Novel
Tumblr media
The record that features all-timers such as "The Trooper," "Flight of Icarus" and "Revelations" vividly come to life in individual chapters dedicated to each of the nine songs on the historic release. Frontman Bruce Dickinson, an author in his own right, even contributed to the "Revelations" chapter, a particularly special moment as the song was his first official songwriting credit with Iron Maiden.
Tumblr media
Iron Maiden and Z2 Comics have announced a graphic novel based on the band’s Piece of Mind album, arriving November 21st. Below you can get an exclusive first look at the special alternate cover featuring Eddie as “The Trooper” and its accompanying collector’s card. The graphic novel celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary 1983 album, which contains all-time Maiden classics such as “Where Eagles Dare,” “Die with Your Boots On,” and “The Trooper.” With a solid track record of heavy metal collaborations with Anthrax, King Diamond, and more, Z2 Comics pulled out all the stops for Iron Maiden: Piece of Mind. The book features stories based on each of the album’s songs, including writing from frontman Bruce Dickinson (“Revelations”) along with an introduction penned by longtime Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. “When the idea of a Piece of Mind 40th Anniversary graphic novel first came up, I felt it was the perfect medium to expand outside the confines of the songs and to create new storylines and new dimensions through short form narrative and imagery,” said Dickinson in a press release. “With ‘Revelations,’ it allowed me to add more layers and dimensions to the lyrics and add a new twist.” He continued: “Equally as exciting was bringing together some of the top writers and illustrators in the industry who are all actual fans of the band, to add their own creative ideas inspired by the songs, Eddie, and the album itself. Z2 did a tremendous job in pulling this all together to create more than just a graphic novel, it’s what I consider a work of art.” The novel was edited by Rantz Hoseley. Other writing contributions include Steven Grant (The Punisher), Tony Lee (Doctor Who), Ivan Brandon (24Seven, Viking), Sacha Gervasi, Antony Johnston (Atomic Blonde), Leah Moore and John Reppion (Conspiracy of Ravens), Brian Posehn, Chris Roberson (iZombie), and Alison Sampson (Hit-Girl). Illustrators include Carson Thorn (Batman the Barbarian), Damien Worm (The October Faction), Francesco Dossena (Dylan Dog), Christian Rosado, Staz Johnson (Rogue Trooper), John Pearson (Mindset), Michael Avon Oeming (Powers), and Danijel Žeželj (Luna Park).   “The Trooper” Cutaway Edition of the novel retails for $40 is limited to 666 copies and can be pre-ordered via Rockabilia. Meanwhile, the Asylum Edition runs $300 and includes numerous extras such as art prints, a replica concert ticket, four collector’s cards, and an Eddie asylum model kit (shipped separately). Pre-orders of various formats are available via Z2 Comics.

Anthrax is celebrating 40 Years with the release of XL (40th Anniversary Version). The album is the newest release from the band which was recorded for a live stream. Also with the album release came a new Blu-ray and DVD of the performance. I was bummed I missed the initial live stream this was a real treat.
