So Nimona’s trending, as it should, and I’m thinking back to three years ago when the cancellation announcement came out. I made a post about it, a really REALLY angry post that ended up blowing up a bit and being the way A LOT of people found out. The following year was really sucky mentally for me, and the Nimona cancellation was honest-to-god a sizable factor in that. The graphic novel was really important to me personally, and it remains one of my favorite books of all time, so I didn’t take that news well, and it certainly didn’t help that every time that post got a new surge of likes in the following year, I was reminded of all that anger. Since then, I’ve kind of gotten used to my favorite book adaptations being unceremoniously cancelled, though it still packs a bit of a punch depression-wise, I’ll admit. It’s unfair that innovative, diverse projects will just get tossed to the wayside over and over again because some money-hungry old fart decides it won’t immediately make tons and tons of money, and I’ll still get angry over that. But it has helped, in the past two years, to remember Nimona. To remember the ONE TIME where it fucking WORKED. Where a diverse project was FINALLY allowed to reach its potential and it paid off. In this day and age, it’s just really nice to have this kind of spark of hope, and I’m just so glad Nimona is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
And I’m also glad that Disney got their ass handed to them

Read the Nimona comic, gotta say, it was pretty good! It was pretty interesting seeing how different it was from the movie, like for example Nimona’s shapeshifting powers are way more complex and OP compared to the film. Another thing to note is that Ballister actually sees himself as villainous in the comic, at least initially. He’s aware he’s doing pretty bad things to people but is ultimately doing it for the greater good. Maybe an Anti-Villain would be a better description of his character.
It’s just a fun read, I recommend checking it out.

Nimona was so good ya'll. So absolutely queer, fun, and punk from start to finish and a true champion of all underdogs both in the story and its entire progress of fighting with fangs, claws, and pure grit to survive their entire studio being shut down, Disney killing the film for it's LGBT themes despite being 70% complete, then fighting back to gain a new studio and finally have this great story see the light of day. Congrats to all the Nimona team!

I’ve been wanting to share this for a while now, but here you go. Here are my first drawings of Nimona, Ballister and Ambrosius from… well, Nimona. It took me about a month to finish these drawings after already wanting to draw them a full month after watching the movie but I’m glad I finally did and finished these drawing before I color them.

I think the hardest part of finishing these drawings for me though was finding the right references for the details on their clothing and armor. For some reason I had a really hard time finding decent scene references to add details on them, especially Ballister’s prosthetic arm and the details on it from the shape, to the wires in it and to the light on it (though that can also be because of the movie’s cel shaded animation style really messing with my eyes), and I heavily debated on if I should draw Ambrosius’s normal or lion shoulder pads, until I ultimately decided to draw his normal shoulder pads.
Here's some pictures to show what I mean about Ballister's arm with some arrows to highlight it, and I guess a showcase of how much the lighting and texture on characters tends to shift in the lighting of the movie, and again, because of the cel shaded style of the movie.

But ultimately, I’m still extremely happy with how my drawings came out. What do you guys think?

Fuck decent acting, MY favorite genre of nepo baby is “child of Some Rich Guy who funnels their daddy’s money into innovative creative projects that otherwise wouldn’t get made,” especially if those projects are animated

I just finished watching Nimona on Netflix and it is amazing, and I love the world building, characters and the metal music in the end credits
Tumblr media
But what I love most is LGBT and amputee representation
Tumblr media
It felt EXCITING 😃 😄 ❤️
Tumblr media
Of course, I did read the book a couple of weeks beforehand and it turned out just as amazing just like the book, amazingly is the prejudice and propaganda that our world still faces today
Tumblr media
I give it a 1000/1000 ❤❤❤ for animation fans and fans who want stylized animation, I highly recommend it
