Expectations were low, but Oh My God!
I intended to write down the dialogues that don't make much sense, but then I figured it's no use to copy/paste all the subtitles. There's rarely anything that isn't plain stupid. The Witcher: Blood Origins is amalgam of badly used tropes I've seen thousand times before.
The Elves
Forget the beautiful, graceful humanoids with equally stunning culture. The elves here are dirty, rude and equally pathetic as humans. The only difference is pointy ears. Their architecture is massive and angular, their blades, proverbial elven blades, often look like a total amateur with zero skill forged them out of scraps.
Elves are also morally corrupt. Colonization is a huge issue we won’t learn much about, except they’re just as bad as humans will become in future. Given the context the point seems to be they had it coming... in case you were starting to feel for their race in present time.
REPRESENTATION!!!
Recently I’ve read a post about how little representation is in “source” material. Shocking, isn’t it? Slavic fantasy, heavily inspired by mediaeval Poland doesn’t include POCs (read: Blacks and East-Asians, because I’ve never seen anyone complaining about lack of Native Americans... in pseudoEurope...). The show creators obviously decided to fix that by ticking off the proper boxes.
You’ve got Black elves, East-Asian, gay gay, chubby deaf-mute... well, at least this time the different colours came from distinct nations. If only the stereotypes were avoided.
Tropes and patterns
Soft, slightly feminine gay, gullible disabled, wise older East-Asian mentor,  washed out hippie healer, abused genius, forbidden love between protector and his charge, soldier who was done killing untill the enemy wiped out his home, redemption = sacrifice = suicide, two characters arguing about who’s gonna do the sacrificing only for the one, who “lost” to go behind the other one’s back and do it...
... sprinkle some well-known terms and names: chaotic power, Xin'trea, Eredin, Avallac’h... aaand done! Brand new tale from a widely-loved universe is done!
Perhaps try writing less of what could people find cool, and focus on a good story.
Rah, rah-ah-ah-ah!
Four episodes don’t offer much space to develop many characters. Seven good guys, at least four antagonists... personalities, interactions, needless romance... it’s interesting how much can actors express in only so many interactions.
Zacaré and Brother Death are believable.
Meldof and Gwen's story's tragic, but rather sweet in a way. (Tho they could’ve refrained from that rape aspect.)
Éile and Fjall, flat and boring. One of the unsurprising, disappointing turns of events. Zero chemistry. Made to fuck with the sole purpose of making a baby to artificially connect them to Ciri, one of the MCs in the “original” series.
The WITCHER: Blood Origin
You're telling me that the first version of a witcher was a badass elf? This is really gonna piss Geralt off.
One would hope for something different, after all this fuss, but no. First “witcher" is just another butch guy, only with pointy ears.
How do we know the turning potion's ew? It's black!
How do we know he's really WITCHER 1.0? Yellow eyes!
How do we know he’s not quite himself? Black eyes and veins on his face!
I'm sure this improvised ritual had the same effects as carefully honed procedure sorcerers spent decades perfecting...
Fuck the Coup, free The People!
The story starts with a coup, killing off three monarchs with their bodyguards. Corrupt, elitist leadership’s gone, the new rulers- army, magicians and overlooked princess- plan to invade new worlds to gain resources their world’s lacking. Sounds like a decent idea? Our heroes would disagree. The empress needs to be destroyed, because people suffer.
You changed nothing. You're just another boot looking for more necks.
... reproaches the great Éile new empress. When was she supposed to do that? In a week? Change takes time and resources, Merwyn had none. Am I supposed to cheer, because now it's faceless "people" in charge? Do they have knowledge to rule? The skill? Anything? Or are they expected to wing it? Rule isn't about putting new people to the wheel and hope it will all work out. Talk about freedom won't feed you, run trade, economy, agriculture etc..
The worst thing's we know the Empire is crumbling. We know there's no food to redistribute, even the leadership has barely anything and you can't let the head starve if you want to fix anything. Merwyn's unforgivable sin was being born into the ruling class.
- You've no idea what elfkind even is. You're just another spoiled princess.
~ I am Empress!
- You are a child ~given~ the reins of a warhorse. You don't speak for elfkind.
... the writers try to gaslight us. We’re introduced clever, idealistic, inquisitive princess, who wants to help her people. When she’s confronted with reality, she tries to learn more. She goes from her family’s pawn to schemer, who makes allies and plans, frees herself from role of figurehead and reminds others the most important task is to feed their people. That’s a character I’d love to watch. Not a dumb singer, who rallies a mob, destroys government, helps to cause cataclysm and fucks off to countryside.
The Story of the Seven
What did those fame-deserving Seven achieve? Did they solve famine? Did they end war? Did they offer better way to rule? No, no and no.
But they (unintentionally) caused the Conjunction, brought the monsters and humans into weak, starving, disorganized society. The rightfully forgotten Seven effectively crippled their own race and destroyed any chance for defense they might have had.
I don’t know who is Jaskier’s song about, but it’s not about these Seven.

Day 4 of the Black History Month Featured Author Interviews, featuring Mila!
Mila, author of Golden
Black History Month Featured Author
You’re from the big city of Lehsa, you’re returning home to begin your postgraduate studies after being away for three years. On your return, Lehsa is as you remember it; vibrant, bustling, modern - yet the city holds so many secrets.
Ones you are unaware of, ones you are now immersed in whether you like it or not.
You enter a world you never knew existed. You discover that supernatural creatures are not just a ploy to frighten children at night. They’re real. Even more so when a set of angry supernaturals make you their main target.
And even worse, your father — the mayor — knew all about it.
Maybe you aren’t just the ‘mayor’s kid’ after all.
Who knew a birthmark could hold so much meaning?

[INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT!]
Q1.So, tell us a little bit about the projects you're working on!
Golden is a dark, urban fantasy interactive fiction game which focuses on the MC, a university student returning to their home city of Lehsa – but with a twist. Lehsa holds many secrets, including ones the MC’s parents kept from them, their birthmark and rare connection to the supernatural world. Due to this, four supernaturals are sent in to mitigate any threats – but the plan soon changes course when there’s a murder.
There are many customisation options within the game including degree subject choice, looks, personality traits and the option to have a touch averse MC. Alongside Golden being a dark, urban fantasy, there’s a strong focus on romance, the relationships between characters and how the MC shapes the story.
I also have another IF story in the development, I’m hoping to get the intro post out for that sometime this year.
Q2. What inspired you to start writing your current project(s)? Why in Interactive Fiction?
I had the idea of this story before I discovered interactive fiction, the birthmark element is the only thing that stayed because everything else was very novel based. During lockdown, I finally found interactive fiction and that inspired me to write my own. In terms of the things that inspired Golden specifically, I’d say stories I read, Netflix series I’ve watched, myself being a university student, and to see what it would be like for a rich, young adult to have so many unexpected factors in their life to take on.
I chose interactive fiction because I enjoy playing them and thought that that’s what I’d love to give a reader – have their choices affect the story they’re reading. It gives the reader more of a personal connection to the story they’re reading, and I think that’s something super important.
Q3. What is the most rewarding part of creating for you? The most challenging?
Being able to get my ideas down on a page (usually a laptop) is one, being able to see these ideas come alive by writing them out is really rewarding. I can’t empahsise enough at how happy it makes me to see that my writing can make others happy. It baffles me that people enjoy my work that much to engage with it as much as they do. I never imagined that would happen, so it really means the world to me – I’d say that’s the most rewarding. The most challenging, in terms of writing an IF game, there’s a lot of coding that goes into it and many, many branches as each reader can end up knowing different information, interacting with different characters etc. Moreover, I regularly struggle with imposter syndrome, feeling like my work isn’t good enough/comparing it to other writers’ work and that can really get me down.
Q4. Does your heritage have a lot of influence in your work? How?
Three of the four romantic options in Golden are people of colour, two are black, so even though it isn’t in game yet, I do plan for there to be elements of racism in game. Naturally, POC will have different life experiences to their white counterparts, so I want this realism to be in my story.
Q5. What is something you would like to see more of in IF works and in the community?
I hope more POC decide to write interactive fiction and just books as a whole. 2020 statistics showed that black authors are underrepresented in UK publishing, and whilst this is improving, there’s still a long way to go. I’d love to see more diversity and inclusivity within characters in stories as well, not just diverse characters added in for the sake of it and linked with harmful stereotypes. POC deserve to see themselves in their favourite stories, seen as the love interest, the hero etc. I’ve seen comments from authors saying they are afraid to write about characters that are of a different race and/or ethnicity to them, but it’s possible to do your research and write these characters as people. If you’re still worried about certain things, don’t be afraid to ask for feedback on your writing from POC and listen to it. Good representation is better than none at all.
The IF community is wonderful, I’ve met so many great people and made lovely friends from being a part of it, so I hope it continues to grow and make writers and readers feel welcome.
Q6. Describe something that you love about your work or are excited about sharing in your story.
I’d like to think that I’m a descriptive and emotional writer, that those elements come across in my work. I’m excited to delve into the characters a lot more. The characters in my story are complex, they have many layers, amazing traits, flaws too – and it’s why I want realism to be a part of my story and for that element to be enjoyable and clear to see. I’m excited to see readers’ reactions to certain scenes, when I send my work off to beta readers and get positive comments it really warms my heart and makes my day. I’m excited to see how readers’ main characters develop too. As someone who enjoys reading interactive fiction, it’s fun to see how my MC’s personality will grow, how they’ll interact with others, what they bring to the story and what the author has in mind for them.
Q7. Any advice to give to your fellow writers?
To just write the story you want, no matter what. There’s always going to be someone who wants to read what you write. Likes, followers etc., isn’t something to focus on. I’m someone who constantly compares my writing to others’, that beats myself up for not being perfect and that can really take a toll on confidence – you’re a good writer now, you’re going to be a great writer tomorrow and now you’re only going to improve with the more you write. Your story deserves to be heard.

Omg, book three and four were my faves too! I loved the representation and it was nice to have a black character where the sole focus of the character wasn’t their race
OMG lemme just say yeah it was nice we had a black mixed guy as the main character there’s hardly ever poc men as the main character but there was that conversation where his white mother was like to elena “Haha yeah my parents didn’t like me dating a black guy but i did it anyway hahah” and it came off as such a girl boss moment and that was a bit icky to me but i think that was just me LMAO but i agree it was really really nice there was barely any mention of it but enough so we know what he looks like. he was just lewis hamilton LOL and book four OH LORD SANTIAGO. santiago was so fucking CUTE TO ME i could talk about him all day !!! and it was fun because we knew him from book one and he was so cute there and NOW HES ALL GRUMPY AND INSECURE AND THINKS NOBODY FINDS HIM ATTRACTIVE AND ARGHHHH i loved it !! i do find how all her mc girl personalities low-key blended into one even though they had such different backstories ?? but yeah i could talk about this series all day

lets talk about the diversity in the danger days universe (ft. dirk gently)
now i wanna start this off by saying im a white passing native bitch. if any POC want to add to this or debate my points with me i will be happy to listen and if i am in the wrong please let me know! that being said if you are white and stan val velocity this is not a post for you to comment on im so sorry my guy
okay now that thats out of the way lets get into this
the representation of people of colour in the comics is fucking shit. like sorry im not being all formal in this but lets be honest here its not good. the one not ambiguously brown character gets killed a couple pages into the first comic or even sooner. the main character who is supposed to be african american gets white washed when she is finally the main character. becky literally learn how to draw people of colour oh my FUCKING GOD.
oh and lets not forget that our canon asian representation are two driods one of which dies and the literal main villain who gets over sexualized constantly. even if that wasnt intentional it still is a glaring issue mx gerard.
and in all honesty its not that hard to write at least decent representation. im going to be bringing up dirk gently’s holistic detective agency which is such a good show oh my god i have the link to the youtube version if anyone doesnt have hulu. now dirk gently isnt a comic so of course the writing is going to be a little different, and i dont personally think that the show is revolutionary in the sense of pushing people of colour’s stories but its a good example of what danger days could have done and failed at if they wanted to keep the main character white (even though im not going to pretend like that isnt problematic)
anyway I Wanna Talk About Farah Now
in my personal opinion farah is a great character, and the characterization is something the writers team could have done with the girl. i dont want to spoil the character arch because it is super interesting and i love it to death my bi icon farah deserves the world but the world does not deserve her. her arch seems to center around her feeling like she needs to grow up to be like her family, but failing their expectations and trying to cope with that while everything goes to insanity. she started out as the black women stereotype that was just tough and didnt care, but grew to be a good character and stop repressing her feelings. im not lying when i said this lady has made me cry.
she gets to be emotional, she gets to not know what to do and she gets to tell people that. i feel like a lot of the time in media thats not show with women of colour making them not well rounded characters. which is when the girl gets put into this.
ignoring the fact that the girl is white washed, lets pretend she isnt. what is one time besides when her mom comes back that we see her genuinely have no clue what to do? besides crying hugging cherri for like one panel what emotional growth did she make? she just didnt get any actual character that i can see. she was a blank slate and honestly not good rep in my opinion. the main character trait i see is just lost and confused? and like didnt she run wild in the zones since she was 6 why is she so confused??? oh and yeah she was white washed so there goes one of our only POC characters. what the hell gerard.
the girl being a blank slate could be seen as giving the reader a point of view to see the universe but like in the nicest way possible thats lazy writing and 90% of the time an excuse for weak main characters.
cant talk about POC rep in the comics without bringing up the ultra v’s so here we mc fucking go. this is where i want to bring up the rowdy three, because the rowdy three is literally more diverse than the entire character list of danger days drink PISS.
now the rowdy three are this gang of (starting at four but i believe ends up as six? i dunno man found family is really strong in this show) reckless teens/young adults who run around and basically destroy things in a fuck cops dead fascists make no noise kinda way. be gay do crime icons.
the rowdy three is a group composed of martin, cross, gripps, and vougel. they are lead by martin who is white but the rest of them are POC. a lot like the ultra v’s. unlike the ultra v’s the characters (or character because vougel is the one who gets the most character development in season two) have an impact on the story, even more than just the token white leader.
im not going to pretend like the representation is perfect, of course its not these guys did cross and gripps dirty in the second season, but the entire rowdy three arch in the second season focuses on amanda (a canonly physically and mentally disable person) and vougel (a canonly asian person) trying to find their friends. AND MIGHT I ADD THE ARCH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ROMANCE!!!! sorry i just get to excited about these two
now lets look at the poc side characters in the danger days comics. we have volume who got killed as soon as he showed up, vinyl who does like nothing for the plot except stand there (bless his soul but sir please val just shot dee), and vaya and vamos who are icons but also the last ambiguously brown characters and serve as antagonists it seems (or at least how the comics want to show them? im not quite sure where the comics were going with them honestly)
only two of them have personalities and none of them do anything for the plot accept follow around the white guy. fantastic.
oh also this is mainly about poc characters but can i just say amanda seems like a more developed disabled character than dee? she isnt in a wheel chair or anything but her pararibulitis stops her from going out and doing things until she realizes its following her so an attack can happen anywhere. i dunno she is a cool character and as someone who suffers from hallucinations and sensory issues that mimic the fake thing they created for the show its really important to me that a disabled character is able to do something with themself instead of sitting in their radio shack and then getting shot by a white dude for plot. thats a nitpick i think i just like figured i would put it here while im ranting about the comics.
this is really long so im going to end it here because this is all i had to say about the matter but if the new comics pull this shit im revoking my gerard way stan title because he definitely has a part to play in all of this as the one over seeing the comics being made
also dirk gently’s holistic detective agency is a super good show and i need everyone to know that have a good day

I don't understand why it wouldn't be okay though? People have complained a lot about Choices not writing real life drama and when they finally do people are complaining again because it would kill off Rafael. I doubt anyone would care if Ethan was the one who was supposed to die instead.
I think it is more to do with the representation of POC in this book, and the fact that two POC characters were facing losing their lives for the ‘drama’ than anything to be honest.
His stans have also spent their diamonds, in addition to actual money, on his diamond scenes to romance him... just for him to come back in chapter 1 with a partner - his romance with MC being nothing more than a tiny mention in one maybe two chapters.
With regards to Ethan... he is still a vital part of the story. I understand that, as his/her mentor and now colleague on the diagnostics team, he is bound to have a fair amount of screentime. The problem, however, is the amount. PB initially set this story out to have four LIs, but three of them are being neglected; as for if anyone would care if it was Ethan - his stans would, as would those who romance Bryce or Jackie if their LI was being killed off as a plot device. People in that position have every right to be upset.
To remove Rafael as a LI... and then possibly kill him off? That ISN’T okay in the slightest.

WIP Intro: The Rise
Tumblr media
Genre: Superhero Fiction Subgenres: Mystery, Crime fiction Audience: New Adult
Summary:
When MC returns to his birthplace, Everdom, he realizes fast why his parents left the city to raise him in the countryside. His beloved home city is ridden with crime. It’s then that he makes the decision that this city needs a hero. He might not have superpowers, but he has years of martial arts training and a good sense of justice under his belt, would could go wrong?
Along the way he runs into three superpowered individuals, all of which refuse to help him in his quest initially. They all have their own problems to deal with. But as time goes on, it turns out that the existential threats our four heroes are facing might be more connected than they originally thought…
Will they be able to sort out their difference and come together to rise as the heroes that Everdom so desperately needs? This is a superhero story, so you know the answer, but it might not play out the way you expect. Because they won’t be the only ones rising...
Main Characters:
Michael, aka “MC” - our protagonist, everyone. A true paragon and shining beacon of positivity, who has no idea how to actually interact with people normally. Way too optimistic for his own good. Comes off as nice and maybe a little naive, which makes him seem harmless. He is, however, a total badass when it comes to combat, since he has been trained in the art of ass-kicking since childhood. An idealist who is committed to making his dream a reality, and way too stubborn to let anyone stop him.
But just how far is he willing to go to achieve his goals?
Phoebe - the female lead, if you will. A cool denim lover and kickboxer, who will always step up and defend those in trouble. In the city of Everdom, where she has lived since birth, crime is rampant and especially women often become targets of assault and robbery. But not if Phoebe is in the vicinity. She can be hotheaded and impulsive, but will always fight for what she believes in. In addition to her impressive fighting abilities, Phoebe’s superpower also packs a strong punch. Her using this ability in an emergency situation, despite the the use of superpowers being forbidden by law, is what initially draws MC’s attention to her.
But what will she do if her morals lead her to make the wrong decision?
Lukas - the sane man, or perhaps, the craziest one. A mercenary send to Everdom for a job by his guild, only to find himself and his team being overpowered and eliminated upon arrival. As the only survivor, he vows to find and bring down whoever is responsible for the demise of his comrades. However, being raised by an archaic military guild, completely isolated from society, he has trouble adjusting to his new life in the big city. He’s a surly and stern sniper, with superpowers that only enhance his shooting performance.
But what will he do if his revenge leads him to uncover a horrific truth?
Angela - the mediator, or the group glue, whatever you call it. A young medical professional who’s main motivation is to save people. She just really wants people to get along, which proves complicated with her friends’ clashing personalities. Always trying her hardest, even if it hurts her. Too nice for her own good.
But will she survive putting everyone else first?
Additional Features:
lots of LGBTQ+ rep!
also: poc, mentally ill and neurodivergence rep!
secret identity shenanigans
superpowers! cool fights!
crime-solving, mysteries and detective work!
found family
people developing like human beings and learning from their mistakes and changing for the better? what?
sympathetic villains that are just as much protagonists as the heroes (because I am sucker for morally grey characters)
Author’s Notes:
this story was originally conceptualized as a 10 season tv show. However, since that is obviously not going to happen, I’m aiming for making the story into a comic some day. Until then, I will be writing the story in prose (not as a script), but I will be structuring it kinda like a tv show, just as a heads up.
I do have the entire show already (roughly) outlined and planned, which of course begs the question: how much am I going to talk about on here? Because I don’t want to spoil the entire series for everyone. And there are characters and subplots that I really love that won’t show up until a few seasons in, so if I only talk about the first season I’ll have to hold those back and that makes me sad. But I also want to leave some mystery and room for speculation. So I decided that I am only going to talk about the first 5 seasons on here. I will basically treating those as if they had already “aired”, but anything after the end of season 5 is a spoiler and I will be avoiding those if I can. This way I can still include some of my favorite characters and relationships without spoiling the ending for everyone.
for those of you who love romance, I hate disappoint you, but there won’t be any romance between any of the four main characters. There are romantic subplots, but they span several seasons and don’t get started until we’re a few seasons in. (I’m aroace I need some proper set-up otherwise romance is way too jarring for me.)
this is my first WIP of this scale, but I’m determined to finish it, so wish me luck

Four misfits of the Golden Age of Piracy have to settle their differences long enough to get back a stolen magical artifact---not so easy when His Majesty’s Royal Navy wants you dead, and when the shadows swimming under your ship want just the same…

One Siren’s Soul → a story of sailors, sea witches, sirens... and the absolute chaos when those three meet.
genre -- Historical Fantasy, LGBTQ+, YA pov -- First Person Limited, Multiple features -- LGBTQ+ themes, disabled/neurodivergent MCs, POC MCs, science-based magic system, ship logs/journal entries, and all sorts of pirate-y shenanigans~ content warnings -- Violence, mild body horror status -- Nearing the end of the first draft!
A vagabond sea witch, Dione’s been on the run for the past twenty years, unaging and alone, aside from the little dog now following her. Oh, him? His name’s Colin. He’s not really a dog. He’s a pirate that Dione cursed. The worst part? It was completely unintentional, and fixing it is far more of a challenge than either could imagine.
Particularly when the cure requires an ingredient from a creature that doesn’t exist, and even if it did, a creature that would much rather pick their bones from its teeth than give them what they need.
Tumblr media
A little Spanish girl lives in the old cabin over the hill, a silver band about her ankle and an empty eye socket in her head. No one knows how she came to be there, who she is, or how she survives on her own. Celestine thinks that’s fair, considering she believes everyone else is a moron. It’s likely also helped by the fact that she has the ability to erase recent memories of her… “borrowing” escapades.
But a simple underestimation of a Navy sailor, the living legend Phoenix Solarin, leads to a bit more than she bargained for---an accident with a sleep charm, and next she knows, she awakens in an unfamiliar cabin. Except… this is a ship’s cabin.
And she’s afraid of water.

Hello!
I want to go over the possible WIPs I’ll be working on for Camp NaNo this year!
This will also help me choose (hopefully).
Counterparts
This is a WIP I have been thinking about for years. The tag is #counterparts wip but there’s really not too much there lol. It’s a contemporary fantasy about a group of teenage mythical creatures (or people with counterparts) that are fighting against a domestic terrorist group that was built on “mythophobia,” which I’m guessing you can figure out the definition of. There’s quite an ensemble of characters, including a vampire, werewolf, siren, phoenix, satyr, fairy, and many other creatures. It’s full of magic and activism and has gay, bisexual, pansexual, and demisexual characters (also POC!). It’s the WIP I think about the most.
The Refuge on Cottonwood Avenue
This is a contemporary piece set in a fictional city in the Bay Area of California. Four teens who have been friends for years deal with shit. Basically. Friendships are questioned, identities are questioned, romance is questioned. And then something really awful happens. The tag is #TRoCA but it does not seem to be showing up (that’s tumblr for you) so maybe just look up the full title. Again, there’s not much on it because I ~never post~ but it’s there. Half of the main characters are POC and one of them is genderfluid!
Bruja
This is my witch WIP! It’s the most recent one I’ve talked about. Unfortunately I did not know what to call it so there’s no tag but you can probably find a lot of info on it if you scroll down (I made one of those shitty powerpoints on it, I’ll repost if someone asks). Basically it’s a world where women are forbidden from using magic and because of the pushback on that, one girl is sent to this prestigious magic school to learn. Unfortunately for her, they want her to fail. It’s feminist, it’s found family, and, of course, ~magic~. The MC is Hispanic (hence the title) and there is a gay character.
Widow
This is a fantasy novel set in some weird land (idk I need to work on worldbuilding). A king wants to take over a neighboring kingdom but he’s batshit crazy so his plan to do this is to offer anyone in his kingdom who is able to take over the throne for him a shit ton of money. My 5 main characters from varying backgrounds decide to team up to do try it. But the queen of this neighboring land (known as the Widow) is highly dangerous. Just look up “widow,” you’ll find it. One enby character, three POC, and one cinnamon roll boy.
Red
The title is still pending. It’s basically a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. But darker and like ten times sadder. For funsies :) A teenage wolf boy thing (they’re not “werewolves” but they’re werewolves, if that makes sense) is warned against interacting with humans under any circumstance. He meets a little girl one day and they become friends. Also there’s this grandma lady who lives alone in the woods because society sucks. There’s no romance in this story, just friendship and your tears of sorrow. I don’t think I’ve spoken about this before so I don’t think there’s anything to look for on my blog.
If you have any questions about any of these, feel free to ask! I love anything regarding my WIPs 🙃

With the exception of Keane, Rory, and Dakota, I don't get why they always go for three options on the custom LIs. especially when they have done more than that and just don't use them. People would probably like it if there were more options.
I once gave a long-ass answer that boiled down to PB mostly just giving characters one of their four main ethnicities, labeled as “Black/Caucasian/Hispanic/Asian” and that even then, 99% of the time they don’t bother to include either Hispanic or Asian, so if they can’t even consistently remember that there are ethnicities other than black or white, they’re not gonna include characters who are, say, South Asian or Middle Eastern, which they only did for the TRR MCs/babies and the South Asian Cassian in Witness.
Still, my main problem with customizable LIs isn’t so much which faces they give or don’t give us (though it is one of my problems), it’s the fact that, by making LIs race customizable, they relieve themselves from the responsibility of putting effort into writing actual poc. And at the same time, since they know most of their fan base is made up of racists who consistently only choose the white faces, they don’t get flak for only ever making the main LIs white because they can go “but they can be a poc!!1!” despite the fact that it’s clear as day that they’re white-coded (the same goes for gender customizable LIs, but that’s not the point). It’s more work for the art team, sure, but overall? Customizable LIs are lazy and devoid of traits that make them unique, and I, for one, wish they’d put effort into writing minorities for real.

No one asked but I'm gonna give my Opinions on the Fire Emblem games I've played uwu
Sacred Stones
Eirika and Ephraim are babey
Seth is the Perfect Man and no one can tell me otherwise
Colm...loml.....
I've only beaten it once, but the gameplay was solid and the game gave me genuine challenge. The story was good and characters were memorable.
Overall, 7/10
Awakening
Chrom's a himbo
Gaius is also a himbo
Together they make Ultra Himbo (and a cute couple)
Validar kinda hot though 🥵
Overall, gameplay was okay! I like the pair up mechanic, but after a while one can easily manipulate it to where it feels overpowered.
Casual mode is perfect for casual players. Believe it or not, some people don't spend hours upon hours on Fire Emblem. Yes, casual players are still true fans. Moving on.
As much as I love Robin, they can easily be overpowered. After multiple playthroughs, they end up incredibly strong every time.
Chrom can do the same, actually
Speaking of difficulty, you cannot have Baby Level (aka Normal) and Normal difficulty (aka Hard), and then shoot the difficulty up to Lunatic mode aka impossible. As someone who has spent years playing this game, I still haven't made it past chapter three of Lunatic mode.
Overall? Average gameplay, great character designs even if some personalities were bland, and good story. Plus it was my first FE game so, 9/10
Shadows of Valentia
Ngl, kinda disappointed that there's no customizable MC. Obviously, it's a remake from an older game so, understandable. Still, it would have been nice to give Alm or Celica a little accessory and have it show up on their portrait or even in battle.
I never played the original so I can't compare the two, but I genuinely enjoyed the game regardless of how faithful it was to Gaiden
Saber has me like 🥵👀
Fantastic storyline and characters I loved and still love
Lacks the pair up mechanic, which made me think more and plan more strategically
Supports felt kind of short and lackluster, but I assume that's due to the original characters from Gaiden not getting enough personality to begin with. I still enjoyed what little there was.
Was the first FE game I played that had exploration you could control! Nothing feels better than walking into a dungeon and smashing barrels with a sword uwu
While I love the game, I won't be able to experience it the first time again. The story is the same every time through, which most FE games are, but it almost feels necessary to promote some units to specific classes or else you can't progress. Because of that, it sits at 7.5/10
Three Houses
Brings back the exploration, but on a wider scale!!
Took the idea that a FE game could have branching paths and made it really good!
For the first time (for me anyway), the main characters have obvious internal struggles and even mental illnesses. Though these could have been handled a liiiiittle bit better, it's certainly a step in the right direction.
Lysithea is best girl don't argue with me you're wrong
I've yet to finish any path, but I know what happens in each one and no matter which route I look at, I am amazed!
Though most seem upset at Dimitri's death in the Golden Deer route, I found it oddly appropriate. A forgotten prince driven insane by the need for revenge meeting his end by chasing the cause of most his inner turmoil just seemed. Fitting.
Great game with wonderful graphics and characters. I can definitely see me replaying this multiple times
Absolutely 9/10 (and only falls a point short because I can't customize Byleth, but they're in almost every cutscene so that would have been difficult to animate in anyway)
Fates
What....were they aiming for.
This whole game feels rushed and lazy and just. Boring.
My favorite character is Asugi and that's only because he looks like Gaius and that's enough to remind me that there's much better things out there than Fates
Plot holes galore
Birthright is too easy, Revelations is on par with Awakening's Normal difficulty, and Conquest wasn't hard as much as it was unfair
Take chapter 21 of Conquest for example. You know, the Eternal Stairway? Fuck that.
I would avoid that route entirely if it wasn't for the unsatisfying experiences that are Birhright and Revelations
Phoenix mode???? Wh,,,,WHY. Casual mode is fine, but on Phoenix there was no challenge, no threat, no strategy involved. What good is a strategy game without strategy??
Hearing"BEtRayAl" every three seconds was exhausting. Jfc.
I like that Niles was the first bisexual character, but why did he have to be dark skinned and a sleazy creep. Kinda makes it seem that all lgbtq poc are like that. Not a good thing to show the younger, easily influenced audience.
Soleil is a mess but we all knew that already.
While I enjoyed the music in the game, it's hard to find it pleasing when it was the ONLY good thing about the game.
Honestly, 4/10 and I feel bad rating it that high
Literally the only thing putting it at a solid four is the Awakening trio. If they weren't there, I'd give it a fat 0.

all right i had this all typed out as an essay but because tumblr can’t automatically save a goddamned draft i’m going to take the lazy way out and just type the majority in lists.
disclaimer: it’s been a hot second since i’ve read the harry potter books so some of my information may be a bit off but i’ll try. i also don’t have all the information on hogwarts mystery because i’ve only gotten to chapter eleven of year five.
so something i love about hogwarts mystery is that it does what jk rowling failed to do in terms of diversity. correct me if i’m wrong, but there’s only four explicitly stated poc characters, all black, and maybe three others that can be deduced as non-white considering last names and all. (and when considering canonical movie appearances, i believe those seven are the only poc characters.)
dean thomas, black — described as being a tall black boy in the books. very little importance in the actual storyline. muggle-born boy who’s really only important because he is muggle-born and that’s the kind of people voldemort wants to get rid of.
angelina johnson, black — described as being a tall black girl in the books. no importance whatsoever. only mentioned because she’s a part of the quidditch team.
kingsley shacklebolt, black — described as being a tall black wizard in the books. biggest importance is probably because it was his patronus who warned the people at the wedding of the death eaters, and also because he assumed the position of minister of magic for a bit.
blaise zabini, black — described as being a tall black boy in the books. literally only mentioned because he occasionally hung out with draco.
cho chang, presumably asian — chinese in the movies, not confirmed in the books. deductibly chinese considering her last name, though that’s conflicting considering her first name is a traditional korean surname. her only real importance is being harry’s first love interest so he wouldnt end up marrying the girl he’s always loved, i guess; i dont know. also the one who a.) in the books, brought the friend who blabbed to umbridge to the da, or b.) in the movies, the one who blabbed to umbridge herself.
parvati and padma patil, presumably indian — indian in the movies, unconfirmed in the books. deductibly indian considering their last name. zero importance throughout the series, aside from when they were harry’s and ron’s dates to the yule ball (but even then, they only were because harry and ron were out of options).
in conclusion, jk rowling’s characters aren’t all white, true, but her non-white characters are either poorly written or have little importance. she had the potential to even cast poc actors as characters, but the majority were white. what all with her big hair, she even had the perfect set up for hermione being black — and with natural hair too! but alas (and don’t get me wrong; i love emma watson), a white actor was cast.
but then you simply have to open your friendships log in hogwarts mystery and there’s diversity all around!!! not even just in race, but religion too!!!
rowan khanna, presumably indian — definitely dark-skinned, deductibly indian from their last name. they’re one of the most main characters and plays the role of mc’s best friend. super smart kid who dreams of being a hogwarts professor! you go, you spunky little indian kid.
andre egwu, black — deductibly nigerian from his last name. not extremely important in the main story line, but plays bigger roles in side quests. and this man is a fashionable athlete! not only is he non-white, but he totally breaks gender roles too!
talbott winger, dark-skinned — it’s hard to tell specifically where his ancestors may be from but he’s for sure dark-skinned. he doesn’t play much of a role in the main storyline, buf he’s vvvv important in two different side quests. he’s also just a very well-written character and it makes me go aldhskehdjnd
jae kim, presumably korean — considering his last name, it’s quite likely he’s korean. he’s fairly important if you choose him to accompany you to knockturn alley. but he’s also important in the sense that he keeps mc company in detention.
badeea ali, presumably arabic — MUSLIM GIRL!!!!!! A HIJABI!!!!!!! AT HOGWARTS!!!!!!!! ALSHSKAJAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im pretty sure she plays a pretty important role later on in year five but i’m not 100% sure on what it is exactly (i at least try to avoid spoilers). but she’s an amazing artist!! her name even means creative!!! i love her
liz tuttle, black — like talbott, im not sure totally where specifically her ancestors are from, but she’s still black. and she’s absolutely incredible. she saves mc’s life when they have a run-in with a chimaera, for one thing. she’s also a vegan activist and i love her for it
diego caplan, presumably spanish? — judging by his first name, it’s likely he has spanish origins, but nevertheless he’s definitely not white. but on top of that, caplan is a jewish last name!! a jewish character, AND a muslim character. i’m in love.
angelica cole, black — gryffindor prefect. quite a bit important if you’re in gryffindor, less important but still so if you’re not in gryffindor and have to sneak into the common room.
madam villanelle, black — worker at flourish & blotts. gave mc information on jacob as well as mundungus fletcher. skilled linguist.
on top of all them, there’s also just a bunch of nameless extras who are non-white. not sure how many extras in harry potter were non-white, but i still thought i’d mention it.
so yeah, here’s my long-ass post that no one will read but ah well.
EDIT: i never actually posted this?? what a dumbass. but ive gotten a lot further in the game now; im just too lazy to fully edit

some more notes on the prussian league -
one: i should add another thing to the “fight to kill clause.” if the announcer thinks that the audience is bored, or if the announcer finds that the fight is boring, they will play an air raid siren in the middle of the match to indicate that the battlers must start fighting to kill. basically, in every match you have to fight your hardest, because if the MC or the crowd doesn’t think you’re fighting hard enough, you will have to face the possibility of death.
two: prussians have a system that “encourages” immigrants and refugees to join the league. they offer a sweet deal: fight in our league for three years and instantly become a citizen afterward--but the entire thing is a trap. they bait immigrants with the prospect of becoming a citizen faster than anywhere else in europe, but really, the truth is, they’re just using them as fodder for their blood sport. literally so many of preuzien’s own citizens get killed by the prussian league that they need a steady influx of immigrants to even have a league at all.* when lotor becomes champion, this exploitative mechanism is the first thing to go.
three: preuzien also has a thing where it encourages violent criminals from other countries to come over. it’s similar to the deal they make with immigrants: fight in our league for three years, and not only will you gain citizenship, you will also be able to start over in prussia with no criminal record. at first this was just put in place to attract more bloodthirsty people into the league to make matches more entertaining, but as the death toll from the prussian league mounted, they also started needing to invite foreign criminals to make sure there were enough trainers to participate at all. this program is actually quite controversial in preuzien, because part of the deal is that the foreign criminals are housed in a special jail built just for them, and that jail is considerably nicer than some of the conditions that many actual prussian citizens (especially the trainers) live in day-to-day.
four: on the list of “leagues least likely to see voluntary foreign participation,” prussia and north korea are literally, like, right next to each other.
*this is why prussian white nationalists are fucking idiots, okay. they claim that the “fight to kill” aspect of the league is the marker of a superior race. but in reality, the league has killed so many white people--particularly white children, who they want to secure a “better future” for--that they now need to rely on the middle east’s influx of “““““inferior””””” brown people in order to maintain their system. promoting the league in fact increases the total number of POC in preuzien--which is something that the white nationalists are actively working against. literally, their bullshit is killing itself.

The Reading Rush ended yesterday for me. I had such a great time doing The Reading Rush this past week. It was really fun doing twitter sprints, collecting badges, reading all those comics, and just overall connecting more with the bookish community through this readathon.
I wanted to do a wrap up for what I read and accomplished during the readathon. I’ll start with the Reading Rush challenges and then go into what I actually read. I completed :
8/8 reading challenges
14/16 badges
2/7 bookstagram challenges
0/0 booktube challenges
Now into my wrap-up of the week. I did switch around my tbr for the readathon because f the time crunch (which I expected because of my ambitious 12 book tbr) ad just went with ones that were more convenient for me to finish.
1. Teen Titans: Raven
three out of five stars. I love raven, she has been my favorite of the bunch ever since I watched teen titans as a kid. I just loved her backstory and that her character had depth in the show and how she was always protective of her friends. this was a good graphic novel, but because I went into this thinking I was going to get hardcore raven, it was kind of a let down. if I had gone into it remembering that this was a toned down version for young readers getting into books and superheroes, I probably would’ve enjoyed it more than I did. it was still enjoyable.  I especially loved the monotone color palette that the colorist used with the art, it added to the tone of the story. anyway, still excited for the beast boy graphic novel that’s coming out next year. garth speaks to my soul.
2. Blackbird Vol. 1
two out of five stars. the only reason I picked up this comic was because one of the artists I follow on instagram worked with them on it. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters, didn’t get the magical world, didn’t get where the insta love came from??? it just seemed like it was all over the place. it did get interesting around issue 4 or 5 but.... just generally wasn’t for me. the art is fuckin gorgeous tho.
3. Goldie Vance Vol. 1
five out of five stars. I fuckin loved this comic guys!! it was such a blast to read. it’s set in the 60s in Florida following our 16 year old POC mc Goldie Vance who works at hotel as a valet, but on her down time likes to help with the hotel’s detective services. the art is so aesthetic and pretty, the characters are awesome. it just felt like a good ‘ol time. it gave me old fun detective cartoon vibes like scooby-doo or detective conan. loved it so much and can’ wait to read more.
4. The Backstagers Vol.1: Rebels Without Applause
three stars out of five. the story started kinda slow and weird with no context at all, but grew on me around the third issue. the characters were adorable; my faves were beckett and sasha. such cuties!! not crazy about the comic, but would continue for good ‘ol soft, fun, laugh times.
5. SLAM! Vol. 1
three out of five stars. picked up this one because roller derby has always been a topic of interest to me. the sport that is or seems dominated by females, females who are aggressive.  anyway, the art was really vibrant and cool. the story was cute and sorta relatable. two friends trying to make time for each other around busy lives; that I related too. that was the part of the comic I really liked. but I wanted to see more of the community side of things, the team, the found family. will probably end up continuing this comic.
6. Misfit City Vol. 1
three and a half out of five stars. female lead cast in a ‘goonies’-esque treasure hunt story?? yes. hell yes. I enjoyed this comic. the art was beautiful, the characters were funny and some relatable. I thought the premise of the town being a film site for ‘the gloomies’ was an interesting backstory. it was a light, fun, comic with awesome females friends at the center of it. the only thing, sometimes the dialogue was a little bland. some jokes were bad and made me cringe.
7. Fence Vol. 1
four out of five stars. I have been meaning to read this one for a while. finally got around to it, and am I so glad I did. fencing is another non-mainstream sport that I have some interest in. first, art (as always) was fuckin great, just like, the movement of the fencers in the illustrations, I loved. the cast of characters were great. my favorite was bobby, he’s just such a sweetheart so i will kill that other character i forget his name if he breaks him. idk why but the conflict between the main characters reminded me of naruto/sasuke or hinata/kageyama dynamic. one is the arrogant ace who looks down on just about everyone and is surprised when someone catches them off-guard, the other is the underdog/newbie who has passion and effort and something to prove. and they hate each other... for now. i seriously screamed ‘and they were roommates’ when i finished issue one. just read it, it’s good.
8. Moonstruck Vol. 1: Magic to Brew
two out of five stars. the world’s full of magical creatures and magic. which sounds cool and all, i guess but the whole story just wasn’t for me. i did’t really connect or sympathize with any of the characters, except for cass and chet. which is also why their my favorite characters. especially chet. a non-binary, sassy, and over all awesome friend. yes yes yes. thank you. i loved them. probably the only reason i would continue the series is chet.
9. Nancy Drew: The Palace of Wisdom
five out of five stars. again, this is me and my love for mystery, crime-solving teens. like, seriously: nancy drew, kim possible, conan, scooby-doo, tintin, and so many more i can’t think of right now. it was full of lovely friendship dynamics and lots of mystery and suspense.
10. Batman: Year One
four and a half out of five stars. batman’s origin story. hell yeah. this was a reread. this is one the only comic that i own and i love it dearly. the atmosphere that the art adds to gotham city and bruce’s journey into batman is just *chef’s kiss*. there were a few things, that i don’t remember when i first read, that bothered me. there was a line in there somewhere when jim is baiting batman, and batman says something like “she knows how to walk in heels. it’s practically a lost art. it’s a shame.” which off course is the most ridiculous line in the graphic novel, and of course comes from a rich white boy playing dress-up... other than that, i really really love this as a batman comic. all the characters in it are incredibly flawed and yet they are some of my favorites. and will continue to be.
I think that’s the end of the wrap-up. wow. it’s nine o’clock already. I’m probably just gonna sit in bed, eat my cheetos and watch some shows. or booktube. eh who knows. I’m definitely going to be in bed tho. goodnight folks.

heya shards!!! are you reading any good books right now? or watching any good tv shows? (sdajdh i just finished stranger things and i need something to entertain myself with lol) - anonymous love letter
Oh am I reading any good books right now?? Am I READING ANY GOOD BOOKS RIGHT NOW?? haha anon you don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into. I don’t know what you’ve read or what you’re into but here’s some:
Some Book Series to Consume Rabidly and Then Finish, Leaving Your Life Empty and Meaningless For a Few Days:
The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, and other random standalone books by Cassandra Clare are all fantasy with quite a lot of queer elements (trans character, bi character, 1 &1/2 poly relationships, gay character & relationship, more I can’t remember) and I love them to death
Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo is another fantasy series with queer elements (two bi characters and a gay relationship) as well as a lot of POC rep and a disabled main character! Really really really fun and cool and unique books
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater is more fantasy, but with witches this time, and it’s absolutely amazing. Maggie has a very unique style that’s scary and ethereal and really really cool, I love all her books
The Shiver Series by Maggie Stiefvater is a cool take on werewolves and really shows off her style, it’s beautiful and haunting.
??? By Marissa Meyer—I can’t remember what it’s officially called, but it’s a very cool series of fairytale retellings set in a future Earth, I especially love Winter (Snow White). Cinder is the first book.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu is magical fantasy with a twist—magic users (the Elites) are hunted instead of valued, and it’s a very cool series. Some very vague lgbt elements, a bi character and a side lesbian relationship in the last book.
An Ember in the Ashes Trilogy by Sabaa Tahir is an amazing series I don’t even know how to describe, it’s slave girl gets wrapped up in a rebellion she wants no part in, it’s the defected and conflicted soldier that saves her, it’s like four different betrayals and the most insane plot twist ever in the last book. And it’s really beautiful.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor is really creepy and really good, includes angels and chimaera and a girl with naturally blue hair. I’ve only been able to read the first book but it’s very very addicting
Some Standalone Books I Love:
Anything and everything by Rainbow Rowell, she’s an amazing author and, except for one thing, writes really sweet contemporary love stories, and realistic fiction isn’t really my thing but she does it very very well. Don’t read Eleanor and Park unless you have 15 free hours and a box of tissues.
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli is an adorable book about a straight girl and her lesbian sister/moms all stumbling around and finding love (well, except her moms, mostly). Very very cute and sweet. I’m going to assume you’ve read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (if not, do!!), this is the same author.
Tell Me Three Things by ??? is a book I read a while back that I cannot remember the author of?? It’s the same sort of thing as Simon, but straight (anonymous emails, falling in love, etc.).
Jellicoe Road is also by someone I can’t remember, it’s set in Australia and is confusing af for the first 3/4 but it’s definitely really cool once everything comes together, and worth the reread to pick up on all the subtle things you miss.
A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck is sweet and hilarious and honest and heart-wrenching and beautiful, and it was written by my wonderful, fun and supportive old English teacher!!
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King is a great book about a gay girl who’s having problems with her girlfriend, a homophobic town, her family, and herself. She also sends love to airplanes overhead and we actually see the passengers receive her love sometimes which is a really cool concept.
Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys is set in 1950s New Orleans and follows the estranged daughter of a prostitute—trust me, I didn’t think I would like it all that much and I found it very good. It’s one of those books where everything is going good and the MC is actually at a good place and then every bad thing that could possibly happen, happens, and you don’t know how it can possibly be fixed.....and then of course, it gets fixed. Oh, and there’s a blink-and-you-miss-it gay relationship which was a fun surprise because, yknow, 1950s New Orleans.
(I now realize that I read only fantasy series’ and contemporary romance standalones. Oops)
Shows To Consume Your Life:
Umbrella Academy, if you haven’t seen it, is about a dysfunctional family of adopted kids with superpowers who come together after being estranged for I don’t even know how many years, one of hem is dead, all of them are traumatized, one of them is pan and I believe genderfluid?? I can’t remember. Also the apocalypse happens in eight days. Yay.
One Day At A Time is really funny and sweet and honest, a Cuban family struggling through life with a veteran mom, a lesbian daughter, a hilarious grandmother, a dumb younger brother, and the random annoying Canadian immigrant neighbor/building manager who is their family now, I guess.
Glee is fun if you want a show to watch with 20% brain, it’s very funny and stupid
Supergirl seems good? I haven’t watched much of it but it’s pretty good so far if you’re into superheroes at all
That’s what I got! Hopefully you an I have slightly different book/show tastes and you haven’t already consumed everything I recommended, lol. By the way, is Stranger Things any good? I wanna watch it, should I?
