They are all on different parts of their journey for improvement, both Halsin and Astarion have severe issues with self doubt along with sexual trauma, and all of them have a “beast” inside. Durge with the Urge, Astarion being a vampire, and Halsin with his difficult-to-control wild shape. Plus Halsin to me is one of the most respectful and consent-focused characters, which I think would work well with what Astarion needs.

Ok so I wanna ship Karlach with some cute bard girl or something, someone just as fun and nice as she is. And you know what? Wyll and Gale is starting to grow on me. They’re both characters who try to “woo” Tav before doing anything, Gale with the Weave and Wyll with his dance.

Imagine, Gale teaching Wyll the secrets of the weave, likely Wyll has never interacted with it properly as his magic comes from a devil. This could help unlock Wyll and on some level separate him from Mizora. Oh wow, both these men have been manipulated and abused by extremely powerful non-humanoid women. They’re both self sacrificing gits who want to be the hero, both sacrificed much for power. I think it would start when Mizora first appears in camp, maybe. Gale would go to comfort Wyll over the transformation, maybe even compliment his horns. During the night of celebration Gale would see Wyll by the beach and offer to show him something magical, aka the Weave scene. They make some jokes and Wyll mentions the dancing, Gale prods, and Wyll says maybe another time.

Old Ezekiel is a goner, but I refuse to believe Manfred died. Perhaps he was badly injured, maybe even permanantly - but he did not die. With the influence of Ezekiel gone, and humbled by the loss of their fortune, Manfred and Dr Bloor gradually become repentent. Dr Bloor gets a job in a regular school, and Manfred goes to uni to study interior design, and they scrape by. They even make-up with Bartholomew. Then when Julia gets pregnant, and the bookshop gets too small, Manfred offers to build the Ingledews a new home only at the cost of materials, as an apology for everything he's done. Emma helps him paint the nursery.

This little section where Billy got passed around the families like a spare part got me so sad :( I'm glad he finally gets officially adopted as Charlie's brother. Imagine if he had known that all that fortune was once almost his own... and tbh I kinda wish it was. I'm not a fan of the protagonist getting EVERYTHING in the end...

Thoughts and Theories

Well that was a ride!!! Honestly, nothing too unexpected, but that’s not a bad thing! A few plot twists are always good, but I hate stories where literally nothing is predictable, because then it’s just confusing. A good story should give you enough hints that by the end you can figure out how the pieces go together. Charlotte showing back up was a surprise, but as soon as she did, I could see where things were gonna go. Still raging about their portrayal of DID tho. And now we have the lead into next season! I still can’t believe it was Louise. She’s so kooky that it should be funny but man is she insufferable.

So now we’ve got the set up for next season: a cat and mouse game between Mildred and Edmund. Plus whoever they’ve got in tow. I highly doubt Edmund will keep Charlotte and Louise around for long, but Mildred has Gwen, and that’s worrying. Either she’s going to get left behind for safety or she’s going to get roped into this chase and something terrible will probably happen to her. There’s just really no good ending to this love story, considering we know who Mildred ends up being. Honestly, best case scenario is that Gwen leaves of her own volition because she can’t be okay with knowing there will probably be casualties in Mildred’s feud and that Mildred will consider them justified. But who knows? The last episode did redeem their relationship for me a bit though. It’s clear that there were definitely talks and negotiations during these past two years about Mildred’s past and how they communicate. I just wish we could have seen them.

Honestly, the thing that worries me most about this is that I have no idea how we’re going to end up getting to Cuckoo’s Nest from here. How and why will she end up back at Lucia after all of this? What will happen to Betsy and Gwen that they’re not with her anymore by the time she does? How is this personal fight with Edmund going to translate into her being someone who is really a product of an institutional problem? I actually have an essay in progress on the last point, which in summary is that I really don’t think they will be able to bridge that gap successfully or are even really trying to.

Final notes: I love Betsy Bucket and hope you enjoyed my reactions!

Animation and LGBT+ representantion

I need animation fans,specially western fans to read this, please it's very important.

Lately i have been seeing this a lot of misinformation about animation, one common trend is that the people who work on these shows "are lazy" and "don't want to write LGBT+ characters".

Here's the thing: writting LGBT characters in animated children's media it's very difficult and hard. There are many restrictions about what you can or can't write.

It's not that the people who work behind these shows are cowards or don't want to make real LGBT representation. Many want to, but it depends on the restrictions they are given by their superiors.

Examples:

Adventure time

Marceline and Bubblegum (video from 2014):

"In the video you can see Olsen also made a point to ask Ward if the couple would be visible on the show or in the upcoming book. Unfortunately, not so much."

Olson: "And I said, 'Are they going to do it on the show at all, or can we say anything about it in the book?" And he's like, 'I don't know about the book, but in some countries where the show airs, it's sort of illegal.' So that's why they're not putting it in the show."

Here's she explains they that they couldn't be very explicit about Marceline's and Bubblegum's relationship because of these restrictions (they latter could though).

Avatar: Legend of Korra

"As we wrote Book 1, before the audience had ever laid eyes on Korra and Asami, it was an idea I would kick around the writers’ room. I'm bi! I want to write a bi character, dammit! Luckily my stubbornness paid off and now I am VERY supported by current Disney leadership.

That took years of work because of sensitivities around LGBT+ content in programs aimed at children, which often have to work for a global market, said Sugar, 32, who is bisexual.

"We are held to standards of extremely bigoted countries. It took several years of fighting internally to get the wedding to happen," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.

"So much bigotry is based on the idea that (LGBT+ content) is something inherently adult, which is entirely false."

"Sugar recalled the frustration of not being able to be open about her personal experiences in the early years of her career before she made her sexuality public."

“As I’m writing about this, as I’m pitching this, I’m also getting a lot of pushback,” Sugar said. “This was not considered acceptable material for children at the time. … [But] who is speaking to a generation of children about why they deserve to exist? We would be getting notes not just from the US but also from Europe, from around the world about what we could and couldn’t show, and they would be different notes from different countries."

"There was a point at which it was brought to my attention that the studio… I was brought up to a meeting where they [the studio] said, “We know that you’re doing this, and we support that you’re doing this… We don’t want to be giving notes on this, but we have to give notes on this” and it was all very difficult to navigate. Ultimately, I said, “If this is going to cost me my show that’s fine because this is a huge injustice and I need to be able to represent myself and my team through this show and anything less would be unfair to my audience.”

I could add tons of examples about this... but here's my point and it's something a lot of people need to understand: It's difficult to put LGTB+ characters in animated children media. There are certain limitations, restrictions, many times the creators cannot be very explicit about it for many reasons.

So next time you want call creators who want to write LGTB+ characters in their shows "lazy" or "queerbaiting" reconsider the fact that they are actually taking a risk by writing LGTB+ characters and they don't have all the control in their show. They can't always make their characters say "I'm gay" or "I'm bisexual" because of these restrictions. Of course, some are given more freedom than others.

If you don't like how the characters are written or a show.. that's completely fine. But reconsider that corporations have control over the creators on what they can and can't do and that it only ends up hurting their cartoons.

I would really like for people to know about this, since there's this misconception going around that animators don't really care about this. But in reality they do. And i think this it's very important thing to know when it comes to talking about animation.

Med Rewatch Series (#1)

Right, monkey brain said no sleep no rest, only suffering at the hands of med.

I am going to start with the first episode of S2: Soul Care. Reasoning? I need to check if Latham references Ava in his first interaction with Connor.

If my memory serves me right, when Connor is passed over to Latham for his fellowship, Latham says that he was not his first choice. In fact, his first choice was a brilliant surgeon from South Africa. In the first episode of S2, a season where Ava Bekker is only introduced with one line at the end of the last episode.

If I remember correctly and Latham does actually say that in the first ep of s2, it will be huge for the continuity (and my theory that I came up with today, if you’re interested in following this you should really read that really long post that came a little before this where the basis of the theory is laid out). 

Also in rewatching this I see more of Sarah which, again, I have not seen in two years, and she was the reason I became invested in the show, and the reason I stopped watching after she left.

And all of this even before I start the episode.

There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my brain it literally hurts. I think i’m getting a headache. I’m already really regretting this, this cannot be healthy for me.

- i find noah incredibly annoying, especially bc he tries to overshadow reese (my fav) but also just bc hes spoiled [that thing that said that one of the biggest mistakes med made was not having sarah get the emergency med residency at the end of s1 comes to mine, and the fact that noah got his residency easy peasy] - but, i will say that the moment at the end of this season where noah and reese dance together at the party is very adorable. -and the story with downey was so jarring. and the story with zanetti. like i think i first started watching with the first ep of s2 (the one im talking about rn) and i was a bit lost. so going back and watch s1 to like connect the dots. but i never expected the dots to look like that. its like each season of this show is a completely different show from all the other seasons. like i’ve said before, this show is a headache. but literally latham please come and end this for now.

-ah yes. the return of baghdad. been a long time since i heard that one, but it is easily one of my favorite running things about med. its just a little detail but the nick name is like perfect. (when i read fanfic where the chars are actually doing doctor stuff in the hospital it makes me light up) the WORLD BUILDINGGGGG. but whatever

-this is the girl who has the fake baby right? that was a really good ep (bc sarah content. can you see my favorites? for the same reason the one where the girl has split personalities easily ranks high with me.) oh wait this is the one where the dad like dies but then comes back for a split second to see his grand child. there’s not really a lot I can say about that, but the fact that i remember it vividly is... weird.

-okay but I actually love the ED in this show. I love how the show is centered around the ED and not the OR like greys. its fast paced, you see a lot about the characters really quickly (one of the reason’s connor’s intro to the hospital in the pilot is certified iconic in my mind [his interactions with will are gold]). the team works well together (usually, when things are good. - which is another reason I hated the show more as time went on. The personal lives interfered more and more and more with their work as time went on. it got so annoying). but like right here will just calls maggies name and maggie is just On It. I love it. I love the fast pace. it’s why this show got me to come back. so many things happen, it overloads my brain, like the way a video game works y occupying all of your attention.

That’s an actual quote, from Latham. For those who are wondering, Groote Schuur is a famous hospital in, you guessed it, South Africa. This is where I’m calling the episode. This is all I needed.

I just want to restate. This is the first episode of season 2. Ava Bekker is introduced to the show in the last episode of season 2. What does this mean, my friends? It means everything.

For those of you who stuck through to the end, I am very thankful. Here we have probably the first piece of evidence to my theory, at least chronologically.

I, personally, think it’s absurd I remembered this point, but I did. That point, that line, presently, watching this episode with no idea of what the future holds, is only there to tell us that Latham and Connor are not going to agree. But this is the single greatest piece of foreshadowing med has ever done.

Med has never planned anything. I feel confident when I say that. Look at their storylines. They are literally on fire, and every decision the characters make reads like the writers going ‘we have no idea how we made it this far, we thought we would get stopped like ten steps ago.’

When has med ever planned things more than a few episodes in advanced, honestly? Almost never, and going a full season sitting on a plot point, that’s major. This was the first time med has ever planned something miles in advance.

In all honestly, yes I am probably giving the med writers a lot more credit than they deserve. It’s quite possible that as the season progressed they just decided connor needed a new love interest or at least a new dynamic, so they could have just easily looked back and thought ‘oh, hey, here’s a fun little thing we said earlier in the season, wouldn’t it be fun if it paid off?’ That could be true.

Here’s why it probably isn’t. The med writers have no respect for their own continuity. you really think that, in order to come up with a whole new character, they went back to the first episode of the season and paid off a line that is said in less than 2 seconds? no way. Bull. Shit.

honestly, it is probably equally unlikely that either of these things happened. The med writers don’t look back at their story. It’s true, but they also don’t plan things in advance either.

here’s the thing, the more i write, the more absurd it starts to sound. Yeah. Sure. the med writers sat on a character for an entire season, that’s totally a thing that happened and not sarcasm. When pigs fly. everyone knows med is impulsive and messy. But what I am saying is that they planned one thing. One thing.

Ava has an accent. That was a commitment. A pretty uncommon one too. South Africa is such an out of the box choice that god its barely on the map. It asks a lot of someone to act hard while also doing an uncommon accent. If the med writers just decided they needed to give connor a new dynamic, they could have made it a n y o n e. Yeah, sure it would have been nice to have the latham dynamic with the new character, but it would have been so much easier to just create a new character that doesn’t have such a commitment. We all know people who play opposite of Connor Rhodes do not stay around that long.

There is absolutely no reason Connor’s s3 love interest had to be the girl from South Africa. It could have literally been anyone. They could have kept Robin on. They could have made the new character not have so many specific requirements.

At this point, I’m pushing this really hard. Yeah, obviously Ava was planned from the beginning of s2. She had to be. It’s way too specific to be anything else.

What I’m pointing out here is med has never done that before. (at least to my knowledge, if i’m wrong please tell me i don’t want to be a fool) They have never had such a concrete plan for a character, so much as to tease them a full season before they were introduced.

I’m saying, that Ava was special. She was the only character who was teased ahead of her arrival. The one who they knew they wanted, other than the originals, and honestly saying the ‘knew what they wanted to do with the originals’ is being generous. But Ava was different. They had big plans for Ava.

It’s undeniable. Ava was the only character who was planned and teased ahead of her arrival. Ava has such a different style and character than anyone else on the show. She was always planned to be, even when she was just being teased, a rival to connor, meaning she could stand her own against him (or without him).

Now of course, the med writers forgot this when writing s4 and s5. But for the purposes of the important things, all that really matters are the two mentions in s2, and what happens in s3. (for the theory at least).

In conclusion: think about how odd it is that Ava was the only character that was planned over the course of the show. Like sure the characters are planned, but never this far in advance. Med writers don’t really plan anything. I would be shocked if they did anything but through a dart at a spinning wheel. But they had plans for Ava, and they had plans for s3, when she was good.

Think about how odd it is that the med writers had a character planned from the start of s2, that they sat on for a whole season. They never, ever did something so slow and deliberate. Never. It goes against their formula. Like a fucking shark, they have to be moving or they die, at least in their heads. But Ava was always a change to the formula. They had a plan for s3.

that’s it for now. we will see what happens when i watch the last episode of s2.

"So what do you think is the best way to find out if Merula's even into girls?" MC asked, they were sitting with tonks in an empty classroom, planning how to set up Merula and Tulip.

"Ask her?" Tonks suggested.

"No way! She will never tell us," MC said, "but I'm pretty sure ismelda still owe me after I helped her with her crush on Barnaby.."

"Helped her? You literally stole him from her!"

MC shrugged, "not my fault he likes me.", they said "but at least we know she has a heart! And also probably straight.."

"True, true.."

"I think I saw her near the black lake.." MC said, "let's go talk to her!"

Halfway there MC stopped walking.

"I have a better idea," they said, "I'll ask her alone, you stay behind somewhere. If she refuse to tell me just use your Metamorphmagus power to look like Merula and convince her to answer me."

Tonks agreed, "even better!"

"Heyyy ismelda.. whatcha doiiin'?" MC asked Ismelda who was in the middle of hexing a rock.

"None of your business," she muttered behind her bangs.

"Yeah okay, remember that time I helped you with your crush? I need a little favor, you kinda own me here soooo.."

"Ugh, please stop remind me that." Ismelda said, "what do you want??"

"I was just wondering if you could tell me what is Merula's sexual and or romantic attraction please?" MC asked and then added, "asking for a friend haha."

"Just ask her yourself. I'm not giving her secrets away so back off."

"But you oweeee me!"

"No I don't. You barely even helped me in the end. " She stopped hexing the rock, "whatever, you can stay. I'm going back to the castle."

"Why are you talking to MC, ismelda?" Merula was suddenly standing behind them and for a moment MC were scared.

Ismelda frowned. "they were asking about your attractions but I didn't say anything, I swear!"

"It's alright, Ismelda, I don't mind you telling them I am as straight as macaroni!"

"It's.. really not straight.."

"Whatever, just please remind me to never wear that make up again. Horrible." And as she left she yelled, "curse you, MC!"

"I don't know what just happened.." Ismelda said, "weird, she always said she was straight, denied anything else really.. but she talks about girls a lot.." she said it more to herself than MC.

"Well, that was a good talk! Bye now!" and MC walked back to where they sat with Tonks before.

They both laughed.

"That was brilliant! And a bit confusing," MC said, "Ismelda admitted Merula talk about girls very often.."

"And also have a crush on Jacob.."

"Yeah.. So not a lesbian? Just bi? Pan?"

"Speaking of Jacob what do you think his labels are? Like, who will he sleep with?"

"Ew, Tonks! That my brother we're talking about!"

Tonks shrugged and continued with their plan, "How are we going to set them up now?"

"I feel bad about it.. maybe we should let them take it slow.."

No way! We can make it work!"

"Yeah, but.. I don't want to hurt Tulip. Just like we're not helping Penny with her maybe crush, we shouldn't do it with her either."

"Then maybe you should talk to Merula? Say something subtle about, well, all of this?" Tonks suggested.

And so after dinner they did.

"Heyyy Merula.. I'm going to make it quick 'cause I have no interest in talking to you, but, you should know Tulip really is sorry for betraying you or whatever."

Merula was surprised, "and..? Why would I care..?"

"Look, Merula. We both know you're not that innocent yourself. So stop bullying her for something she obviously feel bad about. I don't know what happened between you two but it takes more than one person to ruin a friendship."

"Yeah, her and Denis. But fine, only because I still respect her. Even though it ended I still don't regret being her friend," Merula said, "but! Don't tell anyone I said it! Or I'll use the killing curse on you. And her. And all of your friends too." She was kind of blushing. But again, it was hard to be sure why..

MC didn't knew if that conversation changed anything but the next morning Tulip seemed to be a bit more happy and that was enough for now.

I truely do not understand the hostility that society has harbored against all men. truely i dont. Like, we’re here, living in the year of our Lord 2020, and we still have the audacity to say that a group of poeple are disgusting, inferior, and should all die because they share a characteristic that they cannot control? like Why Do You Want All Men To Die? this rant is brought to you by a vid that I saw of a bisexual woman saying that it is easy to defend her attraction to women to her male partners because women are great and they’re nice because they’re women, but when she has to (“has to”) defend her attraction to men to her female partners she has to be like “*visibly cringing* yeaahhh, UNFORTUNATELY I’m attracted to MEN... it’s GROSS i KNOW hahaha..” and like they laugh it off and whatever but then other women agree with them, and it’s primarily the lesbian community that’s like “death to all men 😌” “men are useless lol just throw them away” “ew you actually LIKE those things 🤢🤢🤮” and it’s like why????? why the prejudice and lumping a group of people together and expressing hatred towards them not ok, oh but if it’s towards a man it’s fine. does that exclude trans men? does that include any masculine presenting person? does it include trans women? are gay men exempt from the death wishes? what about nonbinary persons who were assigned male at birth? what is the basis for the hatred? shouldn’t we be past it by now??

I find it so disheartening when I see or hear men talking about themselves, particularly in a progressive social group setting, and they’re like “yeah sorry that I’m a man, I’m pretty gross and terrible for being the way I am haha” like that shits so sad. like, I have self hatred and depression and I’m thoroughly convinced that everyone around me hates me, but I couldn’t even IMAGINE people VALIDATING those thoughts??? like could you fucking imagine being like “i feel kinda unwanted aha” and someone tells you “actually you’re Really unwanted, you’re also gross scum lol” ???????????????????????

like, are men not people?? is that also not another human brain conducting these dumb flesh sacks that we all reside in? are we not born like them? will we not rot like them? can they not be soft and vulnerable, dellicate and emotional, can they not have the same feelings of love and sorrow that we all experience? can they not be traumatised like the rest of us?? like come fucking on, in the age of the increasing push for individuality and the self, you’d think that people would learn not to generalize at this point. I’m so tired of people being cruel and heartless for no reason.

Sigh, is it just me or is that new volume cover for VKM looking EXACTLY like a yuri manga cover? Hino needs to either stop queerbaiting or just grow the balls needed to cross the line she keeps tiptoeing around and make RenAi canon. At this point she has already ruined their characters past redemption for me so that even if it was canon I would not be surprised. Funny thing is both girls look so much like Yuki it just looks like YukixYuki self-cest to me lmao.

No, anon, it’s not just you, I see exactly what you see haha. My problem is that I have controversial feelings about it.

Let’s face it, the cover is pretty. Very pretty. If there’s something Hino hasn’t failed in yet, it’s her art. Left aside her same-face syndrome (you noted it that both girls look too much like Yuuki), she’s a talented artist. This cover would be an asset for any yuri or shoujo ai manga - that’s how pretty/sexy/charming it looks.

But I still can’t settle with the idea of them getting together. It’s not that much about me having ew feelings because they’re siblings - I still ship Yume, but that this theme doesn’t add any layers to the story. Like, when we were first introduced to the incest aspect of VK, it was kind of fresh and made sense. Haruka and Juuri as a sibling romantic couple were presented to us the same time Kaname and Yuuki were, so they still fell into the category of fresh addition to the story. But Ai and Ren... what’s in it for VKM development? For their development? I don’t know. 

Sure it stil does look more like queerbaiting than confirmed wlw relationship, and if I have to choose I’d want Hino either go away from it or go full lesbian regime than this. However, Hino continues going this route and people are getting hooked up, and not choosing a side is just unfair of her, but oh well, we’re talking about Matsuri Hino - the girl isn’t fond of picking sides.

I have two biggest regrest about Renai at this moment. First is that if incest wasn’t introduced to us before in any form, their love would look fresh in the story and added drama to their characters and relationship. I mean, if Kaname, for example, wasn’t in any way related to Yuuki. Then both girls would be just two daughters of same mother but different fathers who accidentally fall in love with each other (daughters, not fathers lol)  and have to deal with that, struggling with their inner issues and coming to some conclusion at the end. But VK has another background, so not only it’s nothing new, but it’s also nothing necessary right now, because if Hino wanted to show us how much girls cherish each other, she should’ve done it through their sisterly love without romantic aspect.

And here’s my second biggest regret with Renai: they don’t give us this sibling bonding. I’ve said it some time ago, and I repeat it now: VK lacks healthy sibling relationship, one part of them are romantic (the Kurans), the other part is super unhealthy (Rido and his siblings, the Kiryuu twins). And Renai could’ve fixed that for us being that first example of not only being sisters that care for each other, but a very good example of a pureblood and a huntress who co-exist well in same household and are very close. Of course, all of this still can be and should be present in romantic relationship, but... we saw that in this manga. What we didn’t is healthy sibling bond on the basis of purely family feelings.

All that being said, I think that Renai could work great apart from VK background. Like, if it was a story about a pureblood princess and a huntress, which are from warring families, and they fall in love. Let’s say, some lesbian vampire Romeo & Juliet but with both girls knowing well what family each of them coming from and without tragic ending. Hell, I’d read that with pleasure! Give me that. But the VK origins are doing dirty them in my eyes, it erases everything that could be appealing for me in their relationship. In other words, just not my cup of tea because it doesn’t give me what I want from it.

It’s still a question if Renai become 100% canon without it being vaguely or openly hinted, of course, but huge hints are already there so it can’t be left unadderessed. If Hino goes full incest route, I will applaud her bravery but nothing else because it won’t change the rest for me. If she doesnt, well, we knew who we were dealing with.
