lol yet again i missed doing my friday update schedule. in my defense, a lot's been going on. before I say anything else I should also say-- DMs on Tumblr currently do not work for me, the message thing shows me the preview but if I click on it, I absolutely cannot open the window, it will hang for literal days. I have the square blank in the corner of this tab as I am composing and no longer remember what I was trying to get it to open. So if you send me an IM on Tumblr I will only be able to read whatever of it is in the preview! So don't be offended if I never respond, because I can't write back because the window literally never opens. I got one to open yesterday but it was about 45 minutes and a lot of window reloading. I think it's safe to say that feature's just gotta be dead to me. RIP.

Anyway what's been up! my BFF from high school came thru Thursday night with her kids to stay in my cabin and i was a bit frantic getting the place ready, as it's not exactly listed on AirBnB. (She was like "oh wow this is a lot bigger and nicer than i thought" girl you were going to cram your children and yourself into a tiny half-finished shack with me? what??? jeez) and at the last minute Dude was like "oh i'm coming too" which, fortunately, I had put myself into a full-size bed on the pull-out couch so there was room for him to be there too but if this were any smaller a tiny house that would not have been possible. see, this is why i didn't actually build a tiny tiny house, it wouldn't have worked.

Anyway they left friday and i spent the day making sausage as fast as i could, and then in the afternoon dude helped me package it and then! i had! two full days! off! (ok i'm in the second of those days rn) so

saturday being My Birthday I made a snap decision that we were going to go see some art, so we drove over to the Clark Institute in Williamsburg MA (like a long half-hour away, it's not far) and saw some of my good buddies in the permanent collection.

(Mom used to take us kids there when we were little, and there are a lot of Renoirs and John Singer Sargent and some Frederic Rembrandt and Winslow Homer and whatnot, many of which I have seen so often as to consider old friends. (This Bougereau, Mom had a poster of on her bedroom wall, and I have always loved it. Apparently, my grandpa upon seeing it-- not the letters grandpa, the other one-- exclaimed of the one whose back faces the viewer "Oh Betty, it's you!" Betty being my grandma.)

I discovered quite by accident, while fucking around on my phone, that there was a Pokestop out in the courtyard, and the Pokestop was titled something about Jenny Holtzer, and i was like wait what and sure enough. There's a set of four white granite benches out there with Jenny Holtzer engravings on them.

There was also a temporary exhibition of paintings and woodcuts/lithographs/prints by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, yes including a lithograph of That Painting. Fairly stunning! Running thru October, I recommend it if you're in the area!

SO FIRST OF ALL IT MUST BE SAID I MADE A MAJOR MISTAKE IN THAT CORNER and this is how it should have looked actually (i left out the line between amundsen and nansen):

as you can see there between amundsen and nansen it says "end-stage M&Ms decay." that probably makes no sense so let me back it up. "wanting daddy's M&Ms" is a reference to this succession parody video that has long since curdled into a general way of referring to like. erotically-tinged approval-seeking from a superior????

anyway. i am not by any means a norwegian guys expert so this will not be hugely detailed BUT. this is the basics.... and if you want more detail check out the last viking by stephen brown!

fridtjof nansen was The Big Man in polar exploration, ever since he made the first crossing of greenland on skis when he was only 27 in 1888. incidentally he was big sexy

after greenland, he had the ship Fram purpose-built to survive being trapped in the pack ice and proceeded to head north in 1893 and well, get it trapped in the pack ice. using this unorthodox method he planned to drift with the pack and reach a new furthest north record, and maybe even make it to the pole.

hjalmer johansen, an athlete, skier, & dog driver, was on this expedition, and nansen chose him to accompany him when he left the ship in the middle of the drift (2 years into the expedition) to make a dash for the pole. using dogs and skis they reached 86º14' which was a major record for the time!!!

of course they couldn't... go back to the ship... bc it had drifted while they were gone. so they ended up having the incredible luck to come across Franz Josef Land, an archipelago in the russian arctic, on their way south and ended up wintering there. EVEN CRAZIER, when they left again in the spring they ran into ANOTHER EXPEDITION—the jackson-harmsworth expedition happened to be hanging out in franz josef land too!

sooo ok. furthest north, big deal, blah blah. nansen was now a national and international hero, rich and famous, and took up a professorship to focus on compiling the expedition's scientific reports. he became the Dude Everyone Came To Ask For Polar Advice From - advice which he handed out pretty freely (though not everyone listened... akdjhsdfsfsdf)

roald amundsen had been inspired by nansen since he was young and the man was pretty much his all-time idol. after amundsen's successful transit of the northwest passage in 1906, he was interested in finally pursuing his lifelong dream of being first to the north pole. he was able to convince nansen to let him use the fram to do another north polar drift, and try to make it all the way to the "big nail."

nansen was like ok sure :) as long as you take my buddy johansen :)))) who could really use a gig :)))))))))))

johansen had been uuuhhhh not doing great in the years since getting back from the first fram expedition.

but WHOOPS - in the middle of amundsen's preparations, in 1909, cook and peary happened. ("happened" lol) soooo the north pole was out of the question—at least as far as being first went, and that's p much what mattered to amundsen. it had to be south.

but amundsen couldn't just TELL everyone he was going south. for ummm a lot of reasons mostly related to funding and not wanting all the donors (incl the government) to pull out of the expedition and stop him from going altogether.

and that included... nansen!!!!!!! he literally didn't tell nansen he was taking HIS ship to the complete other side of the planet. bc nansen might have been like "no u cant"

anyway nansen was ok with it when he eventually found out, BUT literally nobody else was lol.

ok fast forward a bit and DURING amundsen's actual south pole expedition johansen was causing a lot of trouble. he and amundsen experienced so much friction that amundsen ended up leaving him out of the final polar party as punishment.

when they return from the south pole to australia, amundsen dismissed johansen from the expedition immediately and ordered him to return to norway separately.

within two years he had committed suicide.

during amundsen's lengthy speaking tour to celebrate his south pole victory, nansen (the consummate scientist and diplomat) is like. ok roald buuuut you really really really have to do that north polar drift now even though they've already been to the north pole. bc you said you would!!!!!!!!!!!

let it be known roald really did not want to lol and kept putting it off and eventually it became his most Cringe Fail Expedition of all time aka the Maud expedition.

his relationship with nansen was complex until the end of his life especially when nansen had to play diplomatic damage control due to some rancid stuff roald published in his memoir. and then nansen outlived him!!!!! and gave his eulogy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [YELLS]

Before I got into Japanese, I was learning Norwegian through Duolingo starting back around 2013. I'd always wanted to study another language and it drove me bananas that the American school system sux so bad at teaching them. I picked Norwegian because it was, at the time, the longest non-Spanish/French/German course and the icon was three giant-ass swords (Sverd i fjell) and I love big sword.

Anyway, I got REALLY FAR into the course and Duolingo just kept rolling out these changes that made things worse and worse as time went on lol Some of the stuff was pretty good, like when they got rid of random photos for vocabulary questions and switched to illustrations. But they kept tweaking the trees and making modules longer without making them better, then started putting things behind paywalls that used to be free features, launching new courses instead of finishing existing ones...

I switched to Japanese around 2016 and that tree was a hot mess, they absolutely rushed it out to get people to download the app for the Olympics held in Japan at the time. Funnily enough, the main contributor to the Norwegian course ended up going to the Japanese course. The version of the tree near when I stopped using it was finally getting kinda alright.

And then they went from a branched tree to a straight line. Literally why. I was about halfway through the course and it dumped me onto random modules with content I hadn't learned yet.

Duolingo is so close to being a wonderful learning app but it's clear that they just want people to subscribe and buy the microtransactions and that they don't actually care about teaching or preserving languages. If they did, the Navajo and Hawaiian courses wouldn't have launched in such threadbare shape and then sat like that since, while the High Valerian and Klingon courses updated.

25) The name you chose for your OC, why did you chose it?

For Arvid's name, I was just thinking that dwarf aesthetics generally have a bit of a... half Art Deco, half Viking feel going on for them? so I just thought that leaning into that Scandinavian angle a little bit would be fun. (I was also really fixated on studying Swedish at the time, but I didn't really want to use a specifically Swedish name, so I went with one my little search said was quite common all over Scandinavia, and one I could obnoxiously overpronounce in my head.) (Like the way I tend to read it to myself is with a very grossly exaggerated Swedish accent, lol.)

His last name, Trygg, I chose kinda in the same vein as how J.R.R. Martin did the bastard children's names in GoT depending on the country: it's just... it just means "safe" in Norwegian. I thought it'd be fun for him to have a name that's... not really a name, but more just an adjective, a placeholder given to him out of necessity by the monastery where he was raised. (Which ended up working out really nicely with him getting "Dekarios" to call his own at the end!)

(A fantasy!Norwegian first name and fantasy!Greek last name sound really silly together ngl, but a part of me really loves how strange it is because it's his. Like yeah, people do sometimes wind up with silly names because of their spouses. It's love.)

Iona, as I was kinda developing her, her first placeholder name was "dove" (because of one line of a Dove Cameron song lol) - and I admit, I did just google what names might have similar meanings, in that dove/freedom/independence/autonomy/rebirth vein of things, and one website said that Iona, in Scottish (I believe?) is supposed to mean "dove".

I don't.... fully believe that was correct because I haven't been able to confirm it elsewhere since, but by the time I looked into it further, I got attached to the name, and it... got stuck.

Her last name/maiden name (which is what she uses now), "Raedir", I tried to make a pompous, quintessential Elf Name (to go with her Long Draconic Bloodline), but at the end of the day, it's... really nonsense. Translated, it'd mean something like "unicorn dust", derived from the words "raer" (unicorn) and "mithardir" ("white dust"/snow?), but that meaning is sort of just there to amuse me, because I was looking at a lot of medieval tapestries with unicorns on them at the time.

(One weirdness about it is that, while I know it's supposed to be pronounced "eye-ona" in English, with my Hungarian brain I kept reading it as "ee-yona" on accident. So I decided that "eye-ona" is the "human" pronunciation, and she deliberately went back to pronouncing it the "elvish" way, as "ee-yona", when she started using her maiden name again.)

(A little benefit- if someone is looking for an "Eye-ona" Birchlight, they're not gonna find her. Nope, there's only an "Ee-yona" Raedir here.)

As for Petyr, you're actually reading it perfectly right, lol! I deliberately wanted it to be a little misleading and obnoxious, like it sometimes is in old fantasy novels from like the 70's and 80's. Like sometimes a character will have a very normal name that's spelled- and consequently pronounced in a ~fantasy~ way?

Honestly, I just looked at my build/concept, and thought.... "He's Peter, but stupid. That's it. That's his name. I hate it, it's perfect." So the "-tyr" is pronounced like the god Tyr's name. I don't... really have an answer why, but I do really like the thought of him having to always explain that no, it's not Peter, it's Peh-TYR, like in Tyr, how is this so bloody hard.

"Wildbrook" came from a similar thought, I kinda just... wanted the most "80's fantasy ranger dude" name I could think of, and just like how it is with his whole existence, the fact that I like it actually does bother me a little bit lol.

"Raymond Percival Trevelyan" is basically "Knightly Knightson Canonlastname". "Raymond" means "protector/protecting hands", "Percival", I took from Sir Percival, one of the knights in Arthurian legend, and Trevelyan, as in the last name given to the human Inquisitor in DA:I.

Back in the day, I was leaning really into the whole "archetypal hero character" theme. He was just... a young, pious, knightly idealist who went from said piousness and idealism to absolute disillusionment (and a much less formal relationship with religion). Now, it sounds pretty tongue-in-cheek, to have the Big Strong Former Hero Of The Lands brandish such a deeply pompous name.

OH this one is fun!

Okay, so one of my favorite pieces of headcanon that carries across franchises is that dwarves' superior poison resistance translates in them to an extreme tolerance of spice. Like most human foods, they just taste completely bland to to dwarves.

So I like to imagine that Arvid, having grown up in a monastery and eating mostly things prepared with it being shared with non-dwarves in mind, is just... kind of resigned to things not having a lot of flavor. He'll say nice things when asked for his opinion of course, but more often than not, he's simply eating just to put the calories in- no real favorite or least favorite to speak of there. It's more about the physical sensation of not being hungry anymore.

Gale is of course horrified when he learns this (what do you mean my cooking is bland to you, I cooked every meal you've eaten in the past year????? have you just not had food you've liked in a year??????), and makes it his personal mission to learn to cook traditional dwarven cuisine.

He, uh. He winds up accidentally poisoning himself more than once. But his husband is very, very endeared (if worried) and appreciative of the gesture.

Iona has no such troubles- having been a housewife for such a long time, she's a decent cook, but she's used to preparing meals she... didn't really like much at all. All sorts of roasts and steaks, various pieces of dead animals, the occasional potato maybe- and she, in true elf fashion, is no fan of meats in general.

So during their travels, the only time she cooks is the first night ever, when it's just her, Shadowheart, and Astarion (they toss together a weird, bland stew from just a couple potatoes and a fistful of sage they scrounged up- they didn't even notice that Astarion just pushed the food around a bit, they were so out of it), but as soon as Gale joins up, she categorically rejects even touching a wooden spoon.

It's only after the game, living with a person who makes zero demands of her in regards to food, that she finds joy in food and cooking. She can finally make whatever she wants, whenever she wants it, and she experiments as much as she can. All she has to forego is garlic. (Which, well, you win some, you lose some.)

She's.... sometimes successful. But whatever it ends up being, whether it's good or bad, she is the only one who has to eat it, and she bloody well delights in it.

Petyr has been mostly self-sufficient for 20+ years at this point. Most of his food is homegrown or wild-caught, and like with everything else, he learned by experimentation.

I like to think that he doesn't really think of himself as a good cook, but he is infuriatingly good at this too, like he is at everything else.

Like he'll agree to whip up something quick for the group a few tendays into their journey, and make fucking...... perfect venison steaks, with a wild rice- and fresh mushroom risotto, and a gorgeous red wine sauce. Gale can't decide whether to be impressed, or livid. Petyr just shrugs like, "I kept myself fed in the forest for 20 years. What'd you think I was doing in that time, grazing?"

He too is, I think, in the "whatever puts meat on your bones is good enough" mindset when it comes to favorites, but for some reason I think he'd love a good, nice cheese. That'd be something he can't really make himself, so it'd be a special treat to get on his monthly little supply-trips.

Also, in his case I can say that he is meant to be specifically Norwegian, though not from our world's Norway. (Typically my characters aren't from actual IRL countries or places, but this story has at least a version of it) I initially planned on giving him a more of a common surname, but then I saw this one and just...c'mon he's a fictional character, I had to give him something a bit more special lmao

He's good at surviving in the wilderness both summer and winter, as he's essentially grown up spending most of his time outdoors. He can recognize edible/poisonous plants and mushrooms, how to build an emergency hut, first aid, good crafting skills for makeshift tools etc.

He's an excellent cook and knows how to take anyone's food preferences/needs into accordance.

He's a very good fisherman (or just patient enough lol)

Due to his lifestyle, Henrik is fairly strong physically and has good stamina

Magic tattoo; he can communicate with Clover with his tattoo, and they can tell each other's moods and if one needs help through it. He can also use the tattoo to contact either its maker (Jurou) or Clover's adoptive father if he senses Clover is in trouble.

He has a surprisingly strong danger sense and can tell if something is off either in his surroundings, or with a person. He can just pick up on someone's "bad vibes" pretty much.

Personality:

Henrik is very sweet, hospitable and friendly guy, who is willing to help people in need. He's a bit naive too and easy to trick, but chooses to still have faith in people and believe in them - unless they very obviously show to him they're bad. he approached people with good faith, but once you fuck up, you do need to prove yourself as he won't forgive that easily depending on what was done.

He has almost childlike curiosity towards everything, and even if he doesn't necessarily understand topics, he enjoys listening to people who do. He genuinely always tries to understand it, but even if he doesn't, he won't beat himself up too bad, or pretend he does.

He can be a bit oblivious and sometimes forget things, like switching out of pajamas when leaving his home. His dog Alva often has to bring him stuff he forgets, or otherwise remind him of things. Sometimes she even drags him out of bed when he's being lazy.

Weaknesses:

Dude's a human in a world of mythical creatures, monsters, demons and witches, he's pretty weak and fragile in grand scheme of things.

His seemingly gullible nature makes him easy to trick with more harmless things; if someone dangerous tries to manipulate him, he tends to pick up on that. But pulling a prank on him and hiding his slippers or putting a kick-me note on his back? Easy peasy.

He tends to overestimate himself and gets hurt a lot, such as what happened with the bear spirit. The main reason he doesn't have more scars yet, is thanks to his magic friends healing away most of them.

The scar he has does sometimes ache, and on worse days can force him to be bedridden the whole day with pain and nausea.

His dog Alva may not be an entirely average dog, but she refuses to tell her secrets even to a fellow dog, an Inugami (Japanese dog spirit) called Raitei

Henrik enjoys carving and painting small wooden animals on his free time, and he tends to make a lot of penguins and dogs.

Penguins are his favorite animals, and he'd love to travel to a place that has them in nature someday. His love for them comes from being given a penguin plushtoy as a kid by his grandma, shortly before she died. it's been his inseparable friend since then, and he named it Sven. (He still has Sven to this day)

Henrik has learned some Japanese from Clover, who, while living in the mirror world, is technically of Japanese origin so his native language is Japanese.

Mostly he communicates with Clover and others through the natural effect of Mirror World, where it allows everyone to understand each other's languages. This effect became applicable on him only after he got his tattoo; before that they both spoke English as it was the only common language they shared. (Clover also speaks German and French, as his adoptive dad speaks those alongside English)

He has taught Clover some words in Norwegian, mainly curses because he asked lol

Due to Clover's condition, typically when he visits he makes sure to have some of his special food enhancement dust with him, so he'll be able to get full from Henrik's cooking properly.

He likes dyeing his hair split-colored; the blond is his natural shade. He mostly goes for natural-ish shades for the dye job, like browns or blacks or coppery reds.

if fully open, he does have slightly long front bangs. He tends to only open his braids when he needs to really wash his hair properly though. (or when reapplying the dye)

many of his classmates have had crushes on him, and they are aware that he supposedly has a long-distance relationship with a Japanese person. (some doubt it'll last, others are more curious)

Despite being introduced with lot of powerful and scary magic things, Henrik is still very open-minded about it all and likes to learn more. It doesn't mean he's not scared of Clover's world, but he loves it despite his fears, as human world can be terrible as well.

He lost his tooth and got the scar on a hiking incident some years back, where he fell and hit his face against a rock.

The bear spirit thing happened during the second ever visit Clover did. In the end Clover's adoptive parent Angus had to deal with it and help save him. The scar was too severe to be fully healed, but most of the time it doesn't have any impact on his life; it starts causing pains and nausea only occasionally, due to being magical origin.

He chose to live in the cabin instead of an apartment, as he wanted to be close to nature while studying, and its not that far from his small college anyway. It even has internet!

Language Learning Log 2023 Week 21 (22/05 - 28/05)

JLPT is rapidly approaching and I desperately need to work on my grammar and vocab. I’m still super behind where I wanted to be by this point, so I’ve got to up my game. But I also need to review what I’ve learned so far because I’ve forgotten things or I’m not 100% sure on them.

Norwegian I’ve largely just been writing my journal every day. I need to add some more variety in 😅 I’ve not been doing italki lessons lately just because my tutor never seems to be available on my days off, and my other normal tutor finished out class 5 minutes early last time so I’m kinda lowkey mad at him (like dude, I’m not earning a lot here and I paid for 60 minutes, give me my 60 minutes lol). I shouldn’t be too mad at him really because there have been several times we’ve gone over time too and I probably owe him the 5 minutes back, but still.

Other than that, I don’t have so much to report. I've been kinda lazy on the studying front this week. I think part of it’s the weather: it’s been rainy most of the week so I’ve been feeling kinda mehh. I don’t think it helps really that I did well on my practice papers; it’s given me a false sense of confidence 🤣 I really need to practice my reading though because that section was the toughest before.

Hullo, dropping by to my norwegian mutual bcus I'm in need of some expertise; I'm planning on changing one of my characters from japanese to norwegian once I get to his revamp (tryna lessen the excessive manga inspiration with my characters lol) and I am in need for suggestions for good male norwegian names for him. I gathered up some options, but wanted to ask you for ideas too :D

He's a countryside himbo who loves to cook, fish, likes penguins and would love to see them in nature someday, and carves wooden animals and paints them. Also his bf is a japanese witchboy from alternate world (Konjou, tho he goes by Clover now due to story reasons. Idk if you remember my Thorn Boy, im talking about his BF Jinchou lol)

He's basically the 'Just Some Guy' of this story, where majority of others are some mythical beings. I always felt that was his true calling over the overdramatic stuff his old story has lol

So yeah, any suggestions would be helpful if you got any!

Omg I'm so passionate about names you have no idea, this is so exciting! When it comes to Norwegian guy names a safe bet will always be a biblical name (think David, Simon, Thomas, Jonas, Daniel, Isaac, Jacob etc.), It's a guarantee that it'll be a believable "just some guy" name, but it also doesn't stand out that much as specifically Norwegian lol.

When it comes to the actual norse names (and norwegian forms of latin or greek names for that matter) there's a fine line between grandpa, 18th century priest, and what a normal dude in his 20s would be called. I think the line differs a bit from person to person, but usually the modern forms of the mythological names work well! Like Odin, Brage, Brede, Sindre, Trym, Sigmund and Sigurd are names of the top of my head stand out a bit, but would also fit a "just some guy" type as well haha. Tor is an old guy name in my head tho, not that it wouldn't work but I'd like to point out how weird it is that Odin isn't an old guy name? I know like three people my age named Odin (one of them had a friend named Ravn of all things). Loke is a horse name. Don't pick Loke.

Other than that we have Håvard, Øyvind/Eivind, and Espen (Espen Askeladd is the main character in pretty much every Norwegian fairytale btw, he's the guy who's not really special or anything but he comes out on top due to his wits and smarts so that's a pretty good one imo). I could obviously just continue with every name ever from here, but honestly I think it'll work no matter what you land on in the end!

I'm a bit patriotic rn cause yknow, 17. May and all lol, but I think the ones I've listed are pretty good, I'd especially say the more norse ones fit very well if the character's an outdoorsy type. That being said, Emil is a great name! The perfect "just some guy" name, I'd totally understand if you choose it cause it's a really great one that only the smartest and coolest people pick😌

Idk how familiar my mutuals will be with some of these, so im sharing a bit of context :)

Raasük by Mashrou' Leila - a lebanese band that is one of, if not THE biggest indie/alternative rock bands in the middle east, which is a ridiculousLY small scene in comparison to a lot of other places. Theyve been kinda iconic since their debute in 2009, having an openly gay vocalist, being vocal feminists, and critising the goverment. I know most of my mutuals arent from this part of the world, but im sure you get why that would be quite a big deal. Sadly they disdanded last year after the online hate became too much. This is my favorite album from them at this moment, I really recommend Ala Babu and Wa Nueid from this track, but everyting is great.

The Beirut School again by Mashrou' Leila - my favorite track from this album is definitely Shim El Yasmine, I recommend looking at the lyrics for this one, tho i dont think you need to understand what their saying in general (my arabic is very bad, and i still enjoy their songs) Cavalry is also a really good track.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp - a norwegian electronic dou. They make great study music as it isnt too distracing. very nostalgic sound.

Kristina från Duvemåla by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus - this is a swedish musical form the 90s by the two dudes from ABBA lol, it became VERY big in Sweden (i am somewhat obsessed with it). It has, im my opinion, the greates Swedish female vocalist, Helen Sjöholm, in the main cast. The songs Du Måste Finnas and Guldet Blev Till Sand are the most popular ones. Du Måste Finnas also has a HORRIBLE english version which I hate a lotttt. Sadly the subtitled translation is also a bit off/stilted in english, which is a shame since the lyrics are almost the best part. If you do not like musicals, u will not like this.

Final thoughts: Not at all like Young Royals. Some themes overlap but what can you do when you're talking about celebrities in the social media era. I suggest giving it a watch. It's well made, fast paced, and all around an easy watch. All the conflicts in the end are just kind of forgotten and resolved but there's nothing else to get too analytical about, it's not exactly a realistic slice of life like Skam or YR.

Okay, Norway has so many amazing songs that I really can't pick just 5. Even some of their lower placed songs such as Branderburger Tor were great! (0 points, really?)

Actually if you know my blog for quite a while you might probably know who will be my 1st. Or my 2nd or 3rd. (Hint 2 of them are winners and the other won the televote lol)

5. Silent storm (2014)

This performance is so powerful yet so mellow especially in the first part. Love how after the bridge it just violently hits me in the guts with emotions. So incredibly amazing, I really love this one.

4. Alle mine tankar (1993)

It has this melancholic, mysterious and even a bit eerie sound which I love. Sounds like the kind of song I'd fall asleep near the fireplace after a long tiring day in the winter.

3. Nocturne (1995)

Yeah, no surprises starting from here, this is just so magical and dreamy that I couldn't resist not putting it in this top. It's my go-to song when I'm feeling anxious, like I really don't know what to add more, beautiful instrumental, the lines in norwegian are so hauntingly wonderful, overall, a great esc winner in my opinion.

2. Spirit in the sky (2019)

Ah yes, the song that got me out of depression back in 2019. And still does. Like I probably said before, I can't get tired of this song. So upbeat and uplifting, and every line just speaks to my soul, yes, even the joik.
