Chapter Eleven - Emerald.
Tumblr media
Summary: Wilhemina Venable felt it was finally time to leave Kineros Robotics and get a job with people who weren’t such morons like Jeff and Mutt. What she didn’t expect, however, was for her new boss to be so damn insufferable. She didn’t expect to fall in love with her, either.

“Yes.” Hand in hand, they walked through the people. Venable’s chest fluttered softly.
“Do you want to eat before the movie? Or are you more into popcorn and stuff?” Emma asked as their heels clacked on the floor. Their locks bounced softly with the breeze, and Venable could feel Emma’s thumb caressing her hand. It felt… good.
“I’m okay with popcorn.”
“Really?” Emma eyed her with a puzzled smile. They turned around the corner, and the bright, red light shone brighter. Wilhemina looked back at Emma. Her skin looks gorgeous. It had gotten slightly pink under the different-colored light, making her eyes pop. She nodded.
“Why?”
“Just thought you wouldn’t be a fan of eating during the movie,” Emma shrugged softly.
Venable frowned. “Why so?”
“You’re all classy… it was just a thought.” They stopped at the small line, and Emma wrapped an arm around Wilhemina’s waist once she let go of her hand.
“Oh.” Venable gulped. Emma was certainly not ashamed of being seen with her. Her head was starting to spin, making it hard to think. Her stomach twisted. This is happening. The hand on her waist caressed her hip softly. Is she always that caring?
“It’s not a bad thing, though.” Emma looked at her, and Venable only now realized how close they were standing. Her breath smells like strawberries. “I like it.” Emma smiled a little. Brown eyes found it hard to look away. The line moved, and so did them. “I think they’re having a classics marathon.”
Wilhemina looked around and found a screen announcing what sessions they had for the night. Luckily, there was a screening of Jaws starting in just a few minutes. “What about Jaws?”
“Jaws?” Emma’s eyebrows arched at her again, causing Venable to let out a chuckle.
“Another surprise?” Without realizing, Wilhemina smiled a little.
Emma nodded, mirroring the smile back. “I did say I want to get to know you better… I’m glad it’s happening.” The words sent a weird shiver down Venable’s spine; she squeezed her cane a little. “Jaws is perfect.” Wilhemina nodded, but didn’t dare taking her eyes away from Emma. Green hues fixated right back at her for long enough to cause Venable’s cheeks to tint. The line moved again, and they were next. “Good evening. I’d like two for the next session of Jaws, please.”
The woman behind the counter nodded with a smile and began getting the tickets; quickly, Wilhemina reached for her purse. “Let me pay.”
“My date never pays.”
“Emma…” Venable stopped to look at her. “I haven’t paid for anything.”
“Your company is more than enough.” Emma offered her a small smirk before turning to grab the tickets. Quickly, she handed the woman her card. Without a reaction, Venable simply bit her lower lip and set her purse back on her shoulder. She’s… different. “Thank you.” Reaching for Wilhemina’s hand again, Emma guided them inside. “Would you like to share some popcorn?”
“Only if I can pay.” Wilhemina’s nerves were starting to ease again. Emma’s presence was calming; she took things nicely.
“What if you can’t?” Emma teased.
Wilhemina chuckled. “Then I’ll have to eat it all alone. And I definitely can’t eat a whole bucket alone.”
“If you insist…”
“I do.” They reached the counter and Wilhemina asked for a big bucket of popcorn. “What would you like to drink?”
“Water is fine, thank you. I don’t drink soda. Makes sense. Emma seemed to be into health and sports.
“Two bottles of water, please.” Venable asked the cashier as she grabbed the bucket. “And…” She stopped to look at the candy options.
“M&m’s?” Emma offered. Venable nodded. She hadn’t eaten m&m’s in God knows how long.
“And a bag of m&m’s, please.” The cashier handed everything to Wilhemina, and she was already prepared to hand him her card. Once she paid, they followed their way inside. Emma guided them to the correct room, and Venable found herself smiling at the whole situation; she had her arms full of food on the movies in a Saturday night. She felt so absolutely young. It feels like how high school was supposed to have been. While it was a bit sad to think about it, having the opportunity now was still nice.
“Middle?” Emma asked as they stepped inside the huge room. Wilhemina nodded. They walked that way and managed to squeeze into the middle row. Not many people had arrived already, and the lights although dim, were still up. Carefully, Venable sat down. Thank God I didn’t drop the popcorn. Carrying it with her cane had been quite the task. She took a deep breath. “Thank you for the treats,” Emma said softly.
“It’s nothing.” Emma had, after all, paid for everything else. Wilhemina set the bucket between them. As she opened her water bottle, she could see Emma smiling at her from the corner of her eye. She always smiles. It was such a weird feeling, to see someone actually enjoying being with you. What if it’s all a joke, still?
“Do you like the sea?”
Once again, Emma had one of these odd questions. Venable didn’t really mind it much anymore. “I like the sea. Not the beach.”
Emma hummed. She took a handful of popcorn and slowly began to eat it, eyes on Venable still. “Care to explain?”
Wilhemina wetted her lips. Emma’s eyes seemed so deep. “I think the sea has many secrets… in a way, I’m drawn to it. But I find the beach hard to be at.” She paused to give more thought to her answer. “Just… too many people. Swimsuits, Sun, sand.” She grimaced a little as her words brought the feelings of it back. “Not for me.” Attentively, Emma nodded.
“I see your point. Although, I do love the beach.” Emma chuckled, and Venable smiled a little. If I were you, I’d love it, too. Being at the beach was simply uncomfortable for Wilhemina; there was nothing positive about showing her body and having a hard time walking on the sand. “What about swimming pools?”
“Not the biggest fan, either. Same concept of the beach.” Granted, she didn’t struggle with the sand.
“Not even when there’s not many people around?” Emma took another handful of popcorn, which reminded Wilhemina it was actually there. Carefully, she grabbed a handful as well.
“It’s rare.” Venable was simply not comfortable with showing her body. Even to herself.
“That’s so interesting… I even have a pool in my house.”
If I had your body, I’d have one, too. Venable definitely didn’t think that answer was appropriate. The subject was starting to annoy her, but it wasn’t Emma’s fault. “Has Dots ever fallen into it?”
“A few times.” Emma laughed. “But he’s pretty chill about it. I just had to blow dry him, which he didn’t enjoy much.” Softly, Wilhemina chuckled back. Her eyes fell down to her lap. How is it to not be ashamed of yourself all the time? Silence made itself home between them. Emma bit her lower lip. As light as a feather, she reached to tuck a lock of fiery hair behind Wilhemina’s ear, for it had fallen down her face as she looked to her lap. Venable’s body froze, but she didn’t pull away. Gently, Emma stroked Wilhemina’s jaw with her thumb once and pulled away to reach for her hand, intertwining their fingers. “You get so quiet sometimes… that dimple appears between your eyebrows…” Emma’s voice soothed Venable, for it was as smooth as velvet. Brown eyes looked to their intertwined fingers, and this time Wilhemina allowed her own to caress Emma’s hand. “What’s inside that pretty head of yours?”
Pretty head. Venable looked up at Emma. In the dim light, her eyes sparkled with an emerald color. “I…” What was she supposed to say? “I was just—just thinking.” She shook her head, and her eyes fell down again.
“What about?”
Venable licked her lips as she pondered her words. “The beach.” It wasn’t a lie. Hesitantly, she looked back at Emma yet again. “I haven’t been to the beach in a long time.”
“How long?” With her free hand, Emma took another handful of popcorn.
“I’m not sure… ten? Twenty years?” Venable watched as Emma’s eyes opened wide.
“For real?”
“Yes,” Wilhemina chuckled. Her cheeks tinted. “I don’t miss it, I just… haven’t been to it in a long time. It got me thinking.”
Emma hummed. “It’s beautiful when you stop to think, like that.” Venable gave her a puzzled look. “Your face changes… you look so deep into your thoughts. It just makes me wonder.” Once again, Emma reached to play with Wilhemina’s hair. She twirled a lock with the fingers of her free hand. Venable’s body stiffened this time. She licked her lips. Close. Too close. But her back was safe against the seat, so she didn’t feel threatened.
“Thank you, I suppose.” Wilhemina struggled for her voice not to tremble.
“Mhm.” Emma’s eyes scrunched slightly with a smile. “You know I think you’re gorgeous. Not staring is hard.” Jesus Christ. Venable had never in her life taken staring as a compliment. People stared at her cane, at her back, at the way she walked; not because she was beautiful, but because they found her weird. Emma didn’t think she was weird. She’s never seen my back. Would things change once Emma saw it? Wilhemina was afraid to find out. The hand on her hair slipped up, and Venable now felt it caressing her jaw and cheek. No one has touched my face in years. She blinked slowly, trying to breathe normally but failing pathetically; her lungs refused to fill completely. Green eyes focused on brown ones, and brown ones struggled, but focused right back. The lights went out. Emma caressed her cheek one more time and pulled away to turn to the screen. “It’s starting,” she whispered excitedly.
“Y-yes.” Wilhemina took a deep breath. Her back rested against the seat again, for it had leaned closer to Emma. She relaxed. The screen lit up.
With their fingers intertwined and playing with each other, the movie went by pretty quickly. Laughs and gasps were shared, and as the time passed the fingers between her own weren’t so foreign to Venable anymore. When the lights went on again, Wilhemina turned to smile at Emma. “Jaws is always nice.”
Emma nodded as she pulled away to get up. “That poor shark is definitely not the villain.”
“Right?!” With the help of her cane, Venable got up as well. She made sure there was no popcorn on her clothes before reaching for the empty bucket. Her bladder hurt. “I need to use the restroom.”
“Me too.” Emma guided them through the people. When they reached downstairs, Wilhemina put their trash into the can. “The bathroom is to the left.” Now, with an empty hand, she quickly felt Emma grabbing it again. Her lower lip got caught between her teeth. Thankfully, the stalls were empty. Venable let go of Emma and got into one, sighing to herself as she alleviated the pressure on her belly. Once she was done, she got out to wash her hands. Emma was still inside. Brown eyes fell onto the mirror, and she carefully fixed her hair. I don’t look so bad. The outfit definitely complimented Wilhemina’s body. One of the doors behind her opened, and Emma walked beside her to wash her hands. Green eyes stared at her through the reflection. Wilhemina offered her a smile. Now, looking at them side to side, she realized Emma was slightly taller than her. “Everything alright?”
“Mhm.” Venable nodded. She turned a little on her heels to look at Emma. And then Emma smiled at her; she smiled in a way Wilhemina hadn’t seen before. It caused her stomach to flip. Slowly, Emma stepped closer.
“Wilhemina,” Emma said lowly, quietly. A gentle hand reached for Venable’s waist. Oh God. She wanted to run away. She wanted to duck down and lock herself into a stall. But she also wanted to stay there. And stay there she did. “I know this isn’t the most romantic place, but…” Emma leaned closer. Wilhemina felt her breath getting stuck in her throat. Her eyes were glued on green ones. A warm palm rested on her cheek. “I just can’t help myself any longer.” Even though Venable felt as if her body was frozen, she could still smell the strawberries in Emma’s breath. Her ears tingled. Emma kept on getting closer; on pulling her closer. And so she took a tiny step forward and felt her body glued on Emma’s. And then her lips felt hot, and her eyes fell closed, and when she realized what was going on, her own tongue was dancing along with another one. The palm on her cheek caressed her skin ever so softly, and the hand on her waist stayed there. There were so many things to think and worry about, but while Emma didn’t move her hand up, Wilhemina thought she’d be okay. But then Emma did. She moved her hand, but didn’t go up; instead, she reached for one of Venable’s and guided it to her own waist. Wilhemina’s grip was gentle and slightly shaky, but she allowed herself to feel Emma on top of her dress. And good Lord, how long had it been since she had felt another woman like that? Emma was the one to pull away, just as she had been the one to start it, and pecked Venable’s lips before taking a step back. She smiled brightly at Venable. “You’re so beautiful.” Wilhemina felt as if she had heard that a thousand times today, but she still craved for if. How could she ever get tired of hearing something she hadn’t heard her whole life?
“I-I think that’s you.” The words came in a breath. Emma laughed softly.
“Let me just—“ With her fingers, Emma wiped Venable’s lips and chin clean. “You’re full of red lipstick.”
“So are y-you.” A nervous chuckle left Wilhemina’s lips. Her hand was still on Emma’s waist, and she only realized it when Emma pulled away to turn to the mirror and clean her face. Venable let her hand fall back to her cane.
“The cons of wearing red lipstick,” she joked. But Venable was having a hard time processing anything; her brain refused to work. Another nervous chuckle filled the air. I kissed her. I kissed Emma. I kissed a woman. I kissed her. “I didn’t know you were into horror.” The words cut through Wilhemina’s spiraling thoughts. She blinked once.
“Not all kinds.” Her voice managed to come a bit steadier, now. Wilhemina shifted her weight and licked her lips, feeling they were moister than usual. “I don’t mind gore, but I can’t stand cliché. Jaws is a classic, but the whole shark plot is saturated, now.”
“Agreed.” Emma reached for one of her hands once again, and they began making their way outside and to the car. “Since I started working with Billie Dean, I’ve been having trouble watching horror movies. Feels too close to home.” The breeze was back at bouncing their locks, and the streets were considerably emptier now. The bright red light still painted everything.
Billie Dean. The reminder of her existence shifted something inside Venable. She couldn’t point to what it was, but it didn’t feel so good. Billie Dean… “I can see why,” she murmured. The dimple between her forehead was back, and brown eyes focused on the pavement as they walked. She told Billie Dean she was interested in me. The memory brought a bitter taste to Wilhemina’s mouth; it bothered her. It bothered her in a way she couldn’t explain why. Yes, the situation was absolutely awkward, but it wasn’t that.
“I saw you’ve been on set with her a lot. How has it been?” They turned around the corner. The coat of red wasn’t so strong anymore.
“It’s alright,” Wilhemina shrugged. “You’ve never been to it?”
“No. She usually only takes Jenny.” Oh? They reached the car. Pulling away, Emma opened the door for Wilhemina and offered her a smile. With a small chuckle, Venable thanked her and got in. The car smelled like Emma. Her heart was beating a little calmer now, but it wasn’t at its normal rate, yet. Emma joined her inside. “I mean, I can understand why she would want you to join her.”
“Uh?” Venable looked at Emma.
“Billie Dean. I can understand why she would want you to join her on set,” Emma repeated. Fiery eyebrows frowned closer together. A soft laugh left Emma’s lips. “She used to take the former HR Executive, too. It’s part of the job. But what I meant is that you’re good at what you do. Everyone in the office has been commenting about it.”
Venable knew she was good at her job, but she didn’t expect her colleagues to know that, too. It was flattering, but not a surprise. “Why, thank you.” She reached to buckle herself up. Emma nodded as she did the same.
“Guide me to your place?” What? It took a second for Wilhemina to understand what Emma meant; she changed subjects so swiftly sometimes. But when she did, she let out a nod.
“Sure, uh, just take the avenue and turn to the left.”
“Got it.” The car buzzed as it turned on. Emma pulled them to the driveway and began making her way. “I had a really good time with you tonight.” The corners of Wilhemina’s lips lifted up. She stared out of the window, now.
“Me too.”
“Would you like to do it again… sometime?” The question was hesitant. Venable thought about it. Would she? I think so.
“Sure.” Wilhemina nodded.
“Maybe next time I can cook you dinner at my place… you could meet Dots and the kitten I’m getting tomorrow.” The idea sounded lovely. And the thought of someone actually wanting her around enough to cook her dinner was… oddly nice.
“That’d be sweet. Thank you.”
“It’s my pleasure.” They stopped at a red light. Emma turned to offer her a smile. Wilhemina smiled a little back. The light turned green again.
“To the left on the next one,” Venable pointed at the street. Emma nodded. I should think about something to talk about. Emma was always the one to bring something to the table. “Wouldn’t it all be fixed if they had just stayed out of the water?”
“Uh?”
Good one, Wilhemina. She squeezed the cane. “I mean, in Jaws… wouldn’t it all be fixed if they had just stayed out of the water…”
“Oh! Yeah, definitely!” Emma took the left turn. “It’s a shark, it’s not necessarily trying to kill people.”
Venable nodded. Her cheeks warmed up in shame. “I agree… it’s kind of a hypocrisy, if you stop to think about it. It’s the shark’s house, after all.”
Emma nodded. “Where to, now?”
Ugh. Wilhemina wanted to disappear. She knew at one point she’d feel inadequate. “To the right on the next one and then to the right again.” She sat a little better on the seat.
“It’s always like that, though.” Venable arched her eyebrows as she tried to puzzle the comment together. “In those, quote on quote, animal monster movies, it’s always like that. Someone invades their space, they fight back, and then they are the monster.”
Brown eyes lit up. “Yes!” She had never heard anyone talk about it in the way she saw it like. Emma described her thoughts perfectly. “Yes, a hundred percent!”
“I know, right?” Emma chuckled, eyes on the road. Wilhemina nodded excitedly. She smiled to herself. The street lights were beautiful at night, and the Moon shone brightly on top of them. “Would you like to have lunch together on Monday?” Emma cut the silence after a minute. The question reminded Venable of her plans with Billie Dean, and the weird feeling was back in the pit of her stomach.
“I’d like to, but I can’t.” She watched as Emma frowned at her. “I have a work trip with Billie Dean on Monday and Tuesday. I should be back after noon on Wednesday.”
“Oh… yeah, alright. I’ll see you on Wednesday, then.”
“Yes.” Wilhemina nodded. But the way Emma answered almost left her feeling guilty. It almost seemed like Emma carried more in those words, but Venable wouldn’t pry; it could all be just her head, after all.
“I thought Jenny was the one to accompany her in those trips.”
“Me too, actually. But Jenny won’t be able to go in this one… she has a wedding, or something.” In all honesty, Wilhemina hadn’t paid much attention to why she would have to go; she just knew she would have to. That was all that concerned her. Jenny’s life was none of her business.
Emma hummed. “You and the boss, huh?”
Venable chuckled. “It’s just Billie Dean.”
“Aren’t you starstruck by her?” They were on Wilhemina’s street, now. Emma drove slower. The question was weird to Venable, but she assumed most people would ask themselves that.
“Not really.” Venable pondered for a second. “She’s a normal person. Her job makes her a public figure, but that’s all.”
“I wish I had thought like you when I started working there.” Carefully, Emma parked in front of Wilhemina’s house. She turned off the car and turned to Venable, unbuckling herself. “I definitely fangirled a little.” Emma chuckled, and so did Wilhemina. Picturing the scene was a little funny. After unbuckling herself as well, Venable turned to Emma.
“Have you been working there for a long time?”
Emma paused to think about it. “About five years. Not much.”
Wilhemina hummed. “I thought everyone was just being nice, but she is easy to work with, after all.” Even though Venable had her bumps with Billie Dean, she had to admit the work was blissful.
“She is.” Emma nodded. Her green eyes fell down to Venable’s lips. Slowly, she reached for one of her hands, playing with the fingers between her own. Wilhemina bit her inner cheek. “You’re easier, though.”
“Am I?” Venable arched an eyebrow. She knew she had been speeding up the process at Billie Dean Howard & Co.
“Mhm… you make us work harder, but it’s good.” Emma had that look in her eyes again. Wilhemina gulped. She felt as Emma twirled her own fingers around hers, caressing her hand and overall, just playing with it.
“That’s good to know.” Venable was definitely not going to back down on work; the team would have to accompany her progress. The last Executive had done a very good job of delaying things.
“Mhm,” Emma hummed again. She kept on staring at Wilhemina with those emerald eyes. They sparkled under the moonlight. Slowly, she moved closer. Uh-oh. Once again, Venable wanted to run away. But her body refused to move. So, she stayed. And this time, she could see clearly how Emma caressed her hair and played with her cheekbone, fingers gentle as well as her features. They both moved closer, and soon enough those strawberry lips were on hers again. Wilhemina sighed against them, trying to enjoy how they felt a little more this time. Without her head spiraling as much, she could focus on all the sensations; Emma’s hand caressed her cheek still, while the other helped her push closer as it rested on her seat. Venable was a fast learner, so she didn’t hesitate when reaching to caress Emma’s arm. Her body shivered when it felt the muscles there, hard and defined. They kissed for longer this time. Wilhemina pulled away with a tiny smile, lower lip caught between her own teeth. Emma chuckled sweetly. “You’re cute.” She still played with Venable’s hair, carefully tucking it behind her ear.
“So are you.”
Emma smiled a little more and leaned to peck her lips again. “You smell good,” she whispered against them. And Wilhemina wasn’t sure how to feel, but something between her legs had woken up. This is too fast. Emma’s lips traveled down her jaw, placing a soft peck there as well. Venable gulped, eyes falling closed. She had forgotten how good it felt to be touched—not necessarily sexually, but in any way. Emma’s hand caressed the hair on the back of her neck now, prompting her head to tilt back. It did. Wilhemina let out a sigh as Emma kissed her pulse point in lazy, open-mouthed kisses, breath hot against her neck, strawberry mixing with lavender. I can feel my heart in my throat. She was sure Emma could feel it, too. The hand on the back of her neck began to slip down, which caused Venable to snap back to reality and quickly pull away. Emma frowned. “I’m sorry, I didn’t—“
“It’s okay,” Wilhemina cut her. Her breath was fast, nearly panting. Venable gulped. Everything felt hot, uncomfortably hot. The hand had come too close to her back. She’s never looking at me again if she feels my back. Venable wanted to go home. “I’m just tired.”
“Are you sure?” Emma kept on frowning. “I’m sorry if I did something wrong.” Her hand searched for Wilhemina’s again. Venable wanted to pull away, but Emma didn’t deserve it. She was so caring and nice; it wasn’t fair to make her feel guilty for her own demons. So instead, Wilhemina tangled her fingers with Emma’s and caressed her hand.
“You didn’t.” It took a second, but Emma nodded. Her features seemed to soften up again. “Send me pictures of the kitten tomorrow?” It seemed like a good subject change. And it worked, for Emma smiled brightly and nodded at her.
“I will. Thank you for the night.”
“Thank you, Emma.” Emma could have anyone she wanted; it was only fair Wilhemina was the one to thank her. It almost feels like charity. In an impulse, Venable leaned to peck Emma’s lips before getting out of the car. She walked to her door, opening it and turning to wave back at Emma. With a smile, Emma waved at her. She got inside, and Purpura was already there to greet her. Now, in the solitude of her house, Wilhemina felt all the adrenaline crashing down. She bit her lower lip and smiled brightly. I kissed Emma. The thought was comforting and scary at the same time. She felt like a woman again, but she was scared like a child. I kissed her. I kissed someone. Slowly, she sat down on the couch. Purpura jumped on her lap and meowed at her, leaning to smell her face and neck. Venable blushed. “Sweetheart…” Purpura meowed again. Wilhemina chuckled. “I think you’d like her.” She caressed the cat’s back underneath her sweater, feeling the warm skin. “You did like Billie Dean, didn’t you?” Purpura bumped her head against Venable’s cheek. She smiled. “I like her, too.” I like her, too. Wilhemina stopped to think about her own words. She did like Billie Dean, a lot actually. She cared about her. I’m glad she invited me to the work trip. It was a weird thing to admit to herself, but Venable was happy she would be there to help Billie Dean with the work. After a minute of caressing the cat, she got up to change and get ready for bed. Her underwear was warmer than usual. This is embarrassing. Wilhemina ignored it, for everything was already too much. She’d deal with one thing at a time. After brushing her teeth and getting into her pajamas, Venable got comfortable in bed. Purpura cuddled next to her. Mindlessly, she scratched between her ears. “I don’t know how to feel, Purpura…” Wilhemina looked down at the cat; her big eyes stared right back at her, paying attention. “I’m happy, it just feels… odd.” The cat blinked once. “I know, it’s confusing. And it shouldn’t be… not now, in my age.” Purpura meowed at her. Venable sighed. “Maybe it’s always confusing… just a little more to me.” The cat stretched her paws, and Wilhemina frowned as she saw a strand of blonde hair on the sheets. She reached for it, grabbing the strand with her thumb and pointer finger. That’s Billie Dean’s. Venable stared at it, allowing her mind to wander. How would it be to go to the movies with Billie Dean? How come all she could think about after her date with Emma involved Billie Dean? Shaking her head, Wilhemina let the strand fall to the floor and reached for the book on her nightstand. Even though her eyes were tired, she could use the distraction for her mind. And for her unusually warm body. Sleep would come soon, she figured, and when it did, Venable turned the lights off and lay down underneath the sheets. Emma’s perfume was still attached to her skin. No tobacco. It was no Floratta Blue, either.

Concept: You are Scathach first born child and during your many years alive you meet Edward Mordrake.
Edward Mordrake x F Witch Reader
~ You weren’t sure who your father was, no one had ever told you, and the people in the colony, outside of Tomasyn and Ambrose, who was the closest thing you had to a grandmother and older sibling, only interacted with you when it was absolutely necessary so it was unlikely that any of them were your father, and if they were they would never admit it. So there were times when you’d wonder if maybe part of the ritual that gave your mother her powers in the New World was to conceive a child for the old gods, which would explain why you were immortal and the rest of your siblings weren’t.
~ The first time you left the hallowed grounds, outside of going an hour or two away, was when you and one of your siblings, that had been born in the mid-1800s, decided that you wanted to see what England was like.
~ The both of you had decided to stow away on a ship to get to England, just like your mother had, and you were able to procure a room at the first hotel you’d both come across.
~ Coincidentally, there was also a Freak Show being held right across the street so that was the first thing you and your sister did.
~ You weren’t that impressed with it at first, only seeing a bunch of people being exploited for little to no compensation.
~ Then you heard it, someone was playing the piano and it wasn’t some shitty saloon music either; it was beautiful.
~ Walking through the crowds you found what you were looking for, right when the song ended and the crowd was running away in terror.
~ Soon you were the only one that remained looking up at the face on the back of the man's head while it looked down at you and the man it was attached to seemed to be confused, judging by how he was moving at least, before he turned around to face you.
“Hi,” You said
“Hello...” Edward said, placing his hat back on his head. There was a long pause as the two of you looked at each other “how rude of me. I am Edward Mordrake” he took your hand in his
“Y/N,” You said as he kissed the back of your hand
“You are from the States I take it?”
“Yeah”
“What brings you across the pond then?” Edward asked before hissing at his second face “don’t be vulgar!”
“I’d think that would be pretty difficult for you to do considering you’re just a face on the back of his head” You said, tilting your head like you were trying to see
“Bitch” the face called you
Edward looked horrified at what you’d just been called, but all you could do was laugh.
~ Edward was relieved when you didn’t run away; happy that he seemed to have found someone he potentially have a connection with. It didn’t even register that his demon had gone quiet.
~ You didn’t get to stay long as your sister had come to get you, letting you know she was hungry and ready to leave.
~ Obviously, Edward was disappointed that you had to leave and he went back to playing his piano in an attempt to block out the voice once again.
~ He couldn’t describe the amount of joy he felt when he saw that you’d come to visit him the next day to listen to him perform. Even the demon seemed to be content that you’d shown up again; maybe it was because you could hear it and found amusement out of what it said or, more than likely, it could sense what you were and knew it would be best not to gain your ire.
~ It turned into a daily thing for the rest of the time you were in England, visiting Edward while your sister went off and did her own thing.
~ At first he was worried about what associating with him would do to your reputation, but it quickly became apparent that you didn’t give a shit about what others thought.
~ You’d often spend your time together listening to him playing his piano or listening to him reading his poems aloud.
~ The fine arts weren’t really something the colonists knew much about so you weren’t really exposed to much outside of the occasional folk song, and hymn. So it was nice to learn about other forms of music and how to paint.
~ He even taught you how to ballroom dance, despite how worried about stepping on his feet you were.
“Alright,” Edward said one hand holding yours as the other hovered over your waist “now the first step” you moved your hand from where it was resting on his shoulder to move his to your waist, a light blush dusting his cheeks before you put your back on his shoulder.
~ For all the months you were in England for you’d been staying in the hotel you’d chosen but there were some nights you’d stay in his tent with him, Edward allowing you to use his bed while he somehow managed to sleep on his piano seat, regardless of many times you told him you were comfortable with sharing the bed.
Edward was taking a nap while you sat in the chair that was placed next to his bed, reading one of the few books he owned.
“Why do you stay?” The demon face asked as it was facing you since Edward was sleeping on his side “you are one of the most powerful witches on this planet and yet you choose to spend your time hanging around a spineless fool instead of indulging in the darkness inside of you”
“Well,” You started, placing a marker in the book before closing the cover “is it so hard to believe that I enjoy both of your companies?”
“Considering that you could easily attract someone just as illustrious as you are. Yes it is”
Smiling, you set the book off to the side so you could stand up. Arching a curious eyebrow the demon face watched as you leaned over the bed; keeping eye contact with you before you placed a kiss next to the corner of it’s mouth. Pulling away you saw that the face had become pink and it appeared to be pouting. Chuckling, you sat back down and grabbed the book, the face not saying anything else letting you read in peace until Edward woke up; greeting you with a kiss to the corner of your own mouth while the second face refused to make eyecontact with you for the rest of the day.
~ Eventually you had to go home though as the blood moon was nearing.
At first, you’d tried to work through the week but the blood lust and rage that came from the moon's cycle became too much and you lashed out against the carnies; lifting several of them into the air with your telekinesis, cutting off their airways until Edward intervened, snapping you out of your rage induced haze so they could drop to the ground.
“Are you alright, my love?” Edward asked, a hand resting on your shoulder, as he walked you back to his tent
“The blood moon is nearing” You sighed
“Blood moon?” Edward asked, holding the flap to his tent open. Taking a seat on the bed you explained everything to him “perhaps you should go home, it may help”
“I don’t know” You sighed, running your fingers through your hair “I like spending time with you and I’m afraid if I go home I won’t be able to come back”
There was a long pause before Edward spoke again “I’m sure we’ll meet again” he gave you a reassuring smile
~ Since your magic was much stronger than your sisters you were able to get home within a few hours as you didn’t need to take a boat back to North Carolina.
~ You’d found out what had happened when your mother and Granny Tomasyn brought you the chest he kept his poems and music sheets locked in, along with a newspaper from England about what had happened, it had even added the legend of his returning on Halloween.
~ After that you began frequenting Freak Shows on Halloween in hopes that you would come across him, you did a handful of times but they were few and far between and some of them were only for a couple of minutes as the workers would find you and quickly remove you from the grounds.
~ Then you met Elsa.
~ It didn’t take much more than showing her your actual magical abilities, not just the sleight of hand she was used to, to get her to allow you to join the show; though you were mostly used for special effects and crew work as she was worried you would upstage her.
~ It was nice having another group of people you could call family, especially ones who didn’t try to pry into your life before the Freakshow, like the freaks in Edward’s show had done. It’s not like it was difficult to talk about, it just brought up a bunch of questions that you don’t want to answer.
~ That was until Bette and Dots first Halloween night in the show.
~ Ethel had just finished telling the twins about the legend of Edward Mordrake and Jimmy was about to get on her about her drinking when you told them your version of the story.
“But eventually I had to go home, and I left two weeks before...”
Everyone was quick to notice how upset you’d gotten and Eve got up to sit next to you, pulling you into her side as she rested her cheek on top of your head to comfort you.
“You two were in love?” Bette asked
“Ew!” Jimmy started screaming suddenly, grabbing the sides of his head “ew! Ew, no!” he ran out of the tent, still freaking out “no”
“What was that?” Dot asked
“I think I know,” Paul said “it’s somethin’ dirty involving the seco- wait. Mordrake was born in the 1800s, how old’re you?”
You took a drink from your cup “Don’t worry about it”
~ Paul refused to leave you alone about how old you were after that, accusing you of being a cradle robber and anything else similar to that he could think of, until you hopped onto the ferris wheel and moved yourself to the top and refused to let it work until he left.
“Oh,” Ethel said, stopping Mordrak before he could leave her caravan after he’d asked his questions. “Y/N might be actin’ a bit weird tonight. She gets a bit stir crazy durin’ the, what’d she call it, blood moon, probably out by the water”
Edward felt his ghostly heart fluttering in his chest upon hearing your name “Y/N/N is here?” He gripped his cane
Ethel immediately noticed how nervous the spirit had become “Yeah, I can take you to where she likes to go if you’d want”
“…Thank you”
Readjusting her shawl Ethel lead Edward down to the water’s edge, a bit confused when the ghost seemed to be frozen in place when they reached where you were; until she saw the demon face rolling its eyes before it yelled at him to go and talk to you.
~ It was the week of the blood moon and tonight it was at its fullest so you weren’t fully aware of what was happening around you as you kept your rage in check. That’s why you didn’t notice the green fog that had rolled in. You didn’t even notice that Edward was behind you until he placed his hand on your shoulder.
“Edward!” You said, turning to face him fully
“Hello, Y/N,” Edward said, taking off his hat “how have you been, my love?”
“Good. You?”
“Not much changes when you’re in my state I’m afraid,” Edward said with a chuckle as the wind started picking up “are you cold?”
“I’m fine,” You said, suppressing a shiver
Edward gave you a look that told you he didn’t believe you so he took off his cape and draped it over your shoulders and clasped it into place so it would be secure.
~ You walked with him around the grounds, standing outside your friend's tents, and listening as he asked his questions. You already knew their stories but it still upset you having to listen to them re-live everything again.
~ Then you got to Elsa and you weren’t sure how to feel, you just knew that if she was the one to be taken she probably deserved it.
“What’s wrong?” You asked when Edward stepped out of Elsa’s tent
“Do you hear music?” Edward asked looking around and walking past you
“No,” You said following Edward, grabbing hold of his sleeve so you could keep up with him in his trance-like state to Twisty’s camp
~ With how fast Edward was walking the trek through the forest would have been difficult if you hadn’t grow up in a forest that was far less traveled than this one, and thankfully he didn’t vanish; so you were able to find the camp with him.
~ You decided to stick around the edge of Twisty’s camp while Edward went to investigate. Once Twisty was out of his caravan you approached.
~ Edward raised a hand to cover your eyes when Twisty removed his mask, but you stopped him letting him know you’d seen worse. To which the demon face made a comment that to anyone else would have come off as snide but you knew was meant to be a compliment.
~ You sat next to Twisty, resting a hand on his shoulder as he told his story, feeling sympathy towards him for how he’d been treated; until he got to the murders and kidnappings.
~ Once his story was finished Edward held out his hand for you to take so he could help you up before confronting Twisty about his story.
~ As Edwards carnies swarmed the clown’s body you noticed movement out of the corner of your eye. Turning you saw Jimmy looking out at you in a panic and all you could do was motion for him to stay hidden.
~ After his soul was claimed Edward walked you back to your tent and, though neither one of you said it out loud, you were both terrified that this was going to be the last time either of you would see each other. All of your touches lingered, the hug you gave him, the kiss he placed on your cheek before holding open the tent flap for you; wishing you goodnight; you’d even had your arms linked together as you walked back one of his hands resting on top of the one you had placed in the bend of his arm.
~ The first thing Jimmy did when he saw you the next day was to wrap you in a bear hug, obviously having thought that you’d been taken by the spirit, refusing to let you go until it got annoying and you had to transmutate out of his hold.
“Shut up,” Jimmy said walking into the main tent and onto the stage, carrying the chest “shut up. Everyone be quiet”
“What’s wrong?” Ethel asked
“He wrote poems about her” Jimmy said setting the chest down
“Who?” Suzie asked
“Edward Mordrake!” Jimmy exclaimed, handing out sheets of paper for the others to look at “about Y/N. And you know what I saw when I went into Y/N tent to get this? She was sleeping with a black cape draped over her that had the letters MD embroiled on it”
“He did give her his cape,” Ethel said
“I think it’s clear what we have to do, isn’t it?” Jimmy said
“We are not summoning Edward Mordrake next year!”
“Why not, ma?” Jimmy asked “I saw what they were like together”
“Look at this, Ethel,” Paul said, holding up a piece of paper, that had been folded closed and held shut with a wax seal, that had several sketches of you on it “he drew a bunch of hearts around her pictures that he drew of her, have you no soul?”
“Have you forgotten that every time he’s summoned he adds one more freak to his collection?” Ethel asked “don’t get me wrong, I saw how he looked at her and I want Y/N to be happy but it ain’t worth the risk”
“But” Jimmy started “what if he doesn’t take anyone. Y/N said it herself, the demon face is quiet when she’s around, so”
“The answer’s no” Ethel said before getting up and leaving the tent
“Let’s go find a witch,” Jimmy said once his Ma was gone
“Y/N is a witch” Suzi pointed out
“Let’s go find a different witch”
~ After everyone was killed and Dandy was dealt with, you decided to go to Briarcliff to keep an eye on Pepper and make sure she was being treated right.
~ It wasn’t that bad since Pepper wasn’t really a threat most of the guards and nuns let the two of you be.
~ One day Sister Jude had decided to allow the patients to celebrate Halloween by letting them make paper plate masks and have a contest to see whose was the best, and Pepper was so excited to participate that she’d performed part of her act when it was her turn.
~ You didn’t think much of it since this wasn’t technically a Freak Show, but you were wrong; it took a few hours but eventually, the green fog reached your room, creeping in under the crack in your door, and you jumped off the bed; running through the halls until you found him. Almost tackling Edward to the ground with the hug you gave him. Then you kissed him and his face instantly became red, but that didn’t stop him from kissing back, only hesitated for a moment, before resting his hands on your hips.
“Does that guy have two faces?” Frank asked having just rounded the corner as he was also following the fog
“Frank?” You asked, pulling away from the kiss
“Answer the question, Y/N”
~ Frank noticed the things you did, not doing anything about it as he realized you were only here to protect your friend and didn’t question what was happening. He just wanted confirmation and once he was given it he went back to doing his rounds.
~ Edward had let you know what had become of your family in the afterlife.
“That sounds like something a parent tells their child when their pet dies,” Frank said from where he was eavesdropping around the corner
“Frank!” You exclaimed
“I’m just doing my job”
“Don’t you dare take Frank!” You told the second face
~ You wouldn’t be able to follow him around this time because Frank was the only one who would be alright with you doing it.
~ Thankfully, the demon face allowed him to stay within the confines of Frank’s section, for the most part as after an hour of being in the same section it had gotten impatient and wanted its soul.
~ After the death Sister Jude was adamant that there would never again be a Halloween party.
~ There wasn’t much that happened to you in Briarcliff after that, though the demon inside Mary Eunice seemed to have developed some kind of obsession with you and you and Lana had become good friends, she’d even come vacation at your house in North Carolina once a year.
~ At some point a second house had been built on the property and that was the one that ended up being where you, your siblings, and your nieces and nephews would live in so you wouldn’t have to deal with the spirits that lived in the Shakers Mansion.
~ Once you were out of Briarcliff you made sure the basement was filled with the banners from Fraulein Elsa’s Cabinet of Curiosities and that the devil face that sat in front of the big top was in front of the house.
~ You knew that with the new show being filmed at the mansion it was going to be a cluster fuck this year, so you decided to go hang out in the tunnel with Edward Mott to avoid it; going to the house since you could never remember where the tunnel let out.
“Who the fuck broke the chandelier?” You asked, having dawned the cape Edward had given you the night he claimed Twisty, lifting the chandelier into the air and fixing it
“Who the hell’re you?” Lee asked
“Y/N,” You said taking in the state of her leg
“Are you one of them?” Audrey asked
“You got away from the Polk’s, huh?” You asked
“Yeah,” Lee said, “and we need to go back!”
    “Why?” You asked
“We need the cars to get out of here,” Audrey said
“Have fun with that” You said, starting for the basement
“Hold on,” Dylan said walking over to you “I’m not sure what’s going on here, but it’s safer if we all stick together and that includes you. What was your name again?”
“Y/N,” You said getting a good look at his face, almost immediately recognizing the similarities to Edward's
“Dylan,” He said offering his hand for you to shank
“You played Ambrose right?” You asked, shaking the offered hand
“Yeah,” Dylan said smiling at you
“It’s getting late,” Audrey said, helping Lee walk on her hurt leg
“I know the quickest way to get there,” You said
“Lead the way then,” Dylan said motioning towards the door
~ During the walk you kept looking at him, sometimes without realizing it, as this was the first time in a while that you realized just how much you’d been missing Edward.
“I think she likes you” Audrey whispered so that you wouldn’t hear what she was saying “you should ask her out”
    “You think?” Dylan asked
“Why are you worrying about this?” Lee asked
“Because,” Audrey started “we are in a horrendous situation and I want to focus on something positive!”
“I would be more focused on staying alive than getting your friend laid if I was you!”
Once you all got to the Polk’s farm you stuck around the truck with Dylan, watching him from the other seat as he hot-wired the vehicle.
“So, why’re you out here?” Dylan asked grabbing the wires he needed
    “Reasons” You shrugged
    “Are you trapped here?”
“No,” You said feeling that someone was watching you from the forest, turning around you looked around to see who it was
“So,” Dylan started as the engine roared to life “what are you-?” His sentence was cut off by Lot’s attack
Turning away from the trees you saw what was happening behind you.
“Hey!” You yelled, flinging Lot away from Dylan as he lay on the ground injured. Glaring at the Polk you walked around the truck to check on Dylan “you ok?” You knelt next to him, searching for a pulse eventually giving up on it, placing your ear over his heart to listen for the beat
    “Y/N?” Dylan groaned
“You bitch” Lot groaned, slowly getting back up “why’re you helpin’ him?”
“Fuck you that’s why,” You said, getting a closer look at Dylan’s injuries “it’s not that bad”
“I’ll take your word for it,” Dylan said when Lot finally got to his feet, gripping his weapon tightly and debating on whether or not he wanted to take the risk and retaliate
“Ishmael” Lot suddenly screamed as the colonists approached “Ishmael they comin’! The blood moon’s full, Mama’s gone”
“Then I’d suggest you run,” You said, resting Dylan’s head on the ground so you’d be able to talk to the approaching colonists about sparing him
That’s when you saw an unnatural fog rolling in, at first you didn’t think anything of it until you noticed the color and you ran into the forest to find its source.
~ Because of the brief interest you’d shown in Dylan he was spared, having been dragged away from the Polk’s farm and dumped next to the main road so the police would be able to find him when they arrived in the morning.
~ Edward was confused as to why he’d been summoned, he could tell it wasn’t Halloween and his companions weren’t with him.
~ He was also concerned about the oddly familiar darkness that surrounded him and then he felt it, the fear coming from his other face. Turning around he saw a woman looking at him from inside the forest.
~ He knew that this woman before him was like nothing he’d ever encountered before and he wanted to run but something was stopping him, even forcing him to kneel when the witch of the woods approached him.
“Such a handsome young man,” Scathach said, gently cupping his face in both her hands
“I-I don’t” Edward started stammering out as he couldn’t come up with a coherent thought
“If thou wish to stay then surrender thy soul to her”
“Surrender my soul?” Edward asked, noticing the blood moon looming in the sky above him and things began piecing themselves together “Y/N/N?”
Smiling Scathach placed a kiss on his forehead “Her feelings for you have never faded” she looked toward the part of the forest she knew you’d be coming from before vanishing
It didn’t take much longer for you to emerge from the trees or for Edward to raise to his feet, meeting you halfway.
“You kept my cape” Edward whispered, a look of fondness gracing his face as he looked at you
“Yeah,” You said as he placed his hands on your shoulders “I, uh, have your music sheets and poems too. I’m not sure how, but my mom got them for me”
“So my work has not been lost to the world?” Edward asked, as a joke rather than being serious, pulling you to his chest in an embrace “this is where you grew up?”
“Yeah,” You said, wrapping your arms around his waist and resting your head against his chest, that’s when you heard it; it was faint but you could’ve sworn you heard a heartbeat
You didn’t have much time to think about it because not long after three young adults walked out of the trees together.
“Look at the moon,” Sophie said “it’s so full and bright”
“Hey,” You yelled getting their attention “the hell’re you doing here?”
“Uh,” Milo stammered as they all looked at you and Edward “l-looking for the house”
“Why?” You almost shrieked, walking up to them, Edward following close behind you “you all need to leave right now”
“But” Sophie tried to say
“No but’s,” You said, using the mom voice that you’d perfected after centuries of helping raise your siblings and their children “go now!”
There was no need to use your concilium as they were all running off just from your tone.
“Idiots” You mumbled, rubbing your left temple “this’s all that guy’s fault”
“I thought you enjoyed the carnage?” The demon face asked
“Enough people have already been claimed tonight,” You said linking your arm in Edwards “come on”
“Where are we going?” Edward asked as you began walking
“Take us to the bonfires,” The demon face said
“I don’t know” You sighed “they can be, a lot to handle”
“And we’ve spent decades in hell”
“Good point,” You said changing your direction
~ When the two of you emerged from the forest it was by the mansion, you two were the only ones around so you brought Edward over to the hot tub. Where you rolled up your pant legs/skirt so you could soak your feet in the warm water.
~ Motioning for Edward to sit you patted your lap offering to let him use it as a pillow.
~ He took the offer and rested his head in your lap, looking up at the stars as you set his hat off to the side.
“You comfy?” You asked, running your fingers through his hair
“Yes,” Edward hummed, both of you hearing the muffled agreement from the demon face, who was obviously enjoying the position “it is beautiful out here”
“Yeah,” You agreed as Edward took off one of his gloves so he could rest it on top of the hand you’d placed on his chest, caressing the back of it with his thumb
As Edward caressed your hand you noticed that his skin was slowly warming up so that it felt like a living person’s.
“It’s a shame that I won’t be able to enjoy this with you for much longer,” Edward said assuming that he would vanish when the sun rose like he always did
“Trust me,” You chuckled “if my mother summoned you, you’re not going anywhere”
“Are you sure?” Edward asked, sounding hopeful
“The one thing she’s ever wanted for all of her children is for us to be happy,” You said noticing that Monet and Audrey were looking down at you from the bedroom window of the mansion, so you motioned for them to go and hide in the cellar Elias had hidden in
Audrey and Monet were quick to make their way outside and ran to the cellar as fast as their legs would take them, making it inside just as the faintest sound of the colonists' approach reached them.
“We can go out and get you some books tomorrow and see if there’s somewhere nearby that sells pianos if you want”
“You don’t need to go through the trouble,” Edward said sitting himself up straight
“I need to get groceries sometime this week so I have to go out anyway” You said, as Edward looked at you for a moment before kissing your cheek
~ Before the colonists could get there the ghost of the Butchers victims appeared, minus Mott who was still hiding in the tunnel, all of them looking at you curiously wondering just who this man you were with was.
“They’re coming,” You said, Edward quickly getting to his feet before you could, so he could offer you his hand. Chuckling you took his hand and let him help you get to your feet.
“Is there anything I should know before they arrive?” Edward whispered
“I don’t think so,” You said as you got down from the hot tubs deck “but then again, I’ve never brought anyone home before”
“What about them?” The demon face asked, eyeing the spirits that were around them
“They’re fine,” You said knowing that none of the spirits held any hostility towards you and your siblings for what happened to them
“Are you two wearing matching capes?” Miranda asked as she and her sister walked up to you
“Disgusting” Bridget sneered
“It’s cute”
“... No”
The others were about to approach you both as well, wanting to ask their own questions but were very quick to back off when the Butcher approached, Ambrose and the Piggy Man dragging, a violently struggling, Lee behind her.
“Thou must be Edward Mordrake,” The Butcher said “I am the Butcher”
“It is a pleasure to finally meet you,” Edward said, giving his signature bow
You could feel the nerves radiating off of Edward, so you rested a hand on his back.
“Would thou like to do the honors?” The Butcher asked motioning toward Lee
Ambrose and Piggy Man brought Lee forward and forced her down to her knees before the two of you. Looking at you Edward wasn’t quite sure what to do, despite the second face yelling at him to stab her, he only acted when you gave him a nod. Gripping his cane he pulled out the dagger that was hidden inside and plunged it into Lee’s neck. Once the dagger was removed the colonists grabbed Lee and impaled her on a stake before setting her on fire, leaving her to burn for everyone to see.
“We should have come with her when she left England,” The demon face said “this is quite enjoyable”
~ Edward was about to reprimand his other face when a feeling, that he wasn’t quite sure how to explain, overcame him; he felt weightless but also like he was being crushed into the ground and when it faded he could’ve sworn that he could feel his heart beating in his chest once again.
~ One by one the colonists vanished until only you and Edward remained and the sun was rising into the sky; Audrey and Monet emerging from the cellar having been drawn out by the sound of the approaching sirens.
“Is it over?” Audrey asked limping over to the house
“For this year, yeah,” You said, Edward, placing a hand on your upper back as he took a step closer to you
“Thank God!” Monet gave a sigh of relief “who’s this?” She motioned toward Lee’s burnt body
“Lee,” You said as the police finally arrived
    “Serves her right”
“Two more survivors?” The sheriff asked getting out of his car
“Yeah,” You said as he radioed in for an ambulance while Audrey and Monet were taken to separate police cars so they could be questioned “and like three bodies in the house and who knows how many studio workers out in the forest”
“Christ!” The Sheriff said before motioning toward Edward “who’s this?”
“My boyfriend, Edward,” You said, wrapping both your arms around one of Edwards
The sheriff just looked at the two of you, not saying anything he just walked away.
~ It took a moment for Edward to process what he’d just heard but once the lingering fear that his feelings weren’t reciprocated vanished and he realized that this was the happiest he’d ever felt in his life, even the demon seemed to be pleased by the title.
“Let’s go home” You sighed, transmutating both of you to the front of your house
“If only your mother could see you now,” The second face said “finally having a woman on your arm and a chance to start the family she always wanted you to have”
“Will you stop!” You said knowing this wasn’t the first it had taunted Edward about the societal pressures his parents had put on him
“Mother would have liked you had she gotten the chance to meet you,” Edward said, smiling fondly at you
“I’m sure I would’ve liked her too,” You said before Edward pulled you into a kiss

Dear American Horror Story Roanoke,
I'm sure the things happening in you are very shocking and scary but, unfortunately, I can't fucking see any of them because you've prioritized 'realistic lighting' over all else. What if I want to be able to actually view the main characters as they run around the creepy woods, instead of a screen that is completely black save for a few shadowy highlights? What if I want to see the murderous ghost colonizers clearly as they hold their midnight human sacrifices?
What if I want to fully appreciate Forest Deer Cult Ghost Lady Gaga?
Huh? Huh? What then???
Less Love With Each Passing Episode,

Rory Monahan SFW alphabet
The little redhead deserves some loving so here it is
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Rory is annoyingly affectionate, to the point where it’s almost too much. He’s very physically affectionate which can get distracting. You’re trying to do something and he’ll come up behind you and interrupt whatever it is you’re doing, trying to get your attention by wrapping his arms around you and pulling you towards him instead. It’s nice, but always at the most inconvenient moments.
If/when your relationship is public he’s got no issues being seen affectionate with you out and about, holding your hand, wrapping arm around you etc. He actually likes looking at paparazzi photos of the two of you and commenting on how you are a good looking couple.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Being Rory’s friend comes with a lot of perks. He’ll invite you to set, premieres and awards after parties (it’s up to you if you want to go). But he also values your privacy so if you want to keep to yourself and not be in the spotlight then Rory will do what he can to keep you away from it all (he also does this as a partner).
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Rory’s favourite cuddles are the ones when comes home to you after being away for months filming something. He loves a cuddle anyway, but there’s something special about the ones when you’ve not seen each other for so long. He also loves that these cuddles often lead to something less innocent.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
To Rory, settling down means letting his career take a back seat and he’s not ready for that. He might want to settle down with you eventually, but he’s at a point in his career where he’s making a name for himself and doesn’t want to let that go. He likes the chaos of his actor life. But don’t let this make you think he doesn’t want a life with you, he really does. (Obviously settling down doesn’t mean giving up on your career, but it’s now Rory views it).
Also, he is absolutely hopeless at household chores.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Here’s one way it could go: Rory messages you that you need to meet up and talk. The two of you can’t find a time where you’re both free so instead of trying to properly negotiate something Rory would just end up dropping you a message saying that he was ending things, although he would add “it’s not you, it’s me” at the end to try and make it more sensitive.
If you’d been together a while then he’d have the decency to do it in person, but still wouldn’t be the most sensitive guy when it comes to it. He’d buy you a slice of cake to try and “ease the blow” and would still add “it’s not you. It’s me” to be nicer. Then, he would use the emotions of the breakup as inspiration for his next emotional scene to film.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Ironically, Rory is the type of guy to propose to you after like six months of dating and wants to get married straight away. He might not want to ‘settle down’ just yet but he is more than happy to get married, they’re two different things for him. Also, proposing and marrying you is his way of saying he wants to spend his life with you, even though he’s not ready to live domestically.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Rory’s not always the most emotionally gentle person. He tries to be, but sometimes he can’t help but be blunt or a little insensitive. It’s not intentional and he doesn’t mean to upset anyone but sometimes he just doesn’t think before he speaks. However, he’s physically very gentle (unless you don’t want him to be…). He worships you and wants you to know it and since he’s so physically affectionate he does it through his soft and gentle touch.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Everything about Rory is dramatic, so of course his hugs are too. He can’t give you a normal hug. No way. Whenever you hug he’ll lift you off the ground and spin you around. Of course he’ll give you soft, gentle ones too but he’s much more of a spinning bear hug guy. You can’t deny that you love it, the feeling of his arms wrapped around you as he spins you both. You really love it.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Rory says I love you within a month of dating you. He’s quick, but certain. He also just says it completely randomly. Nothing special, nothing dramatic (surprisingly). You’re in the middle of a conversation and he’ll just blurt out “I love you”.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Rory doesn’t get too jealous. He knows that you’re attractive and that people are going to say certain things online but honestly, even though he wishes people wouldn’t objectify you in such a way he does agree with some of the stuff that’s said, the stuff calling you beautiful and stunning. The only times he’s ever gotten jealous has been when famous celebrities (more famous than him) have spoken to you when the two of you have been at an event. That’s when a little jealousy begins to burn.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
If Rory goes in for a kiss expect a full on make out session. Rory can’t just do one kiss. He’s insatiable when it comes to your kisses and can never get enough. He loves them so much, it’s like he’s addicted. Quick pecks are not enough for this guy.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Rory’s essentially a big kid himself so is great with children. A make-a-wish child came to the set of a movie he was working on once and Rory made it his mission to give this kid the best day ever. He gave them a tour of the set, introduced them to all of the cast and even played video games with them in his trailer when he wasn’t needed.
You and Rory have talked about kids and Rory wouldn’t mind having them, just not yet. Like the settling down thing, he wants to be in a solid place in his career before making that big step.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
If Rory is working on a project you will often be woken up at random hours of the morning when he has to be at set early. Rory is not quiet. He’s also not organised and if you’re not already awake he will wake you up to ask where his phone charger is, even though he had it yesterday.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Chances are if Rory is working on something he won’t get in until late in the evening/early hours of the morning so it’s rare for you two to have a free night together. However, when Rory’s not working
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Rory’s a pretty open guy, he doesn’t hide much. He’s very much a wear your heart on your sleeve kind of person, as opposed to someone closed up with lots of secrets. He’ll tell you anything you wanna know.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Rory’s pretty chill, so it takes a lot to get him angry. He can get frustrated (often at things like an audition going badly) but to get proper angry? Yeah, it’s hard. One time he did get angry was just after your relationship went public. He was promoting a movie and an interviewer kept insisting they talk about you and your relationship, even though Rory said he didn’t want to. The interviewer continued to pester him about you, adding in some crude remarks, so Rory told them to fuck off and got up and walked out (This went viral).
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Rory, the poor thing, is kind of forgetful. Birthdays and anniversaries he remembers but anything else? Chances are it’s gone and forgotten. He’ll remember that you’ve told him but won’t remember what the actual thing is, even though tries his hardest, bless him. You’d think it would be annoying but it’s surprisingly not, and sometimes you’ll have a little fun and tease him, pretending you’ve told him something that you haven’t just to watch him squirm when he can’t think of the answer. He finds it funny, though.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Probably when you came to the premiere of a movie with his first lead role. Obviously Rory is very proud of his career and getting to have you by his side and feeling your support at the premiere of his first lead means the absolute world to him. That premiere was a special moment for him anyway, but to have you by his side made it perfect, especially you tended to avoid things like premieres until later on in your relationship.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Rory is super protective of you, especially from the media. When you first started dating he did everything he could to conceal your identity so that you wouldn’t be harassed and could carry on living normally. However, when your relationship inevitably became public he was protective in a slightly different way and instead of protecting your identity he was protecting you from things such as internet trolls. He turned off comments on his Instagram so that no one could write horrible ones about you, he reported a lot of tweets, posts and even accounts for posting/saying awful things about you and at one point posted a video telling people to be nice (in a general sense, not mentioning you directly but your relevance was implied). And boy, is he quick to shut down interviewers who bring up personal questions about you.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Big, dramatic gestures are Rory’s thing. He’s not always around because of work but he will make sure he’s home for your birthday and he will throw you a great party to celebrate. He likes to buy you nice things since that’s another way Rory likes to show his affection: showering you with gifts. You mention in passing that you like something? Give it a week and Rory has bought it. At the start of your relationship you couldn’t really go out on big dates because of Rory’s growing fame and you wanted to keep the relationship private so giving you gifts was Rory’s way of apologising for that.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Rory can be a terrible flirt, particularly in interviews. When doing promo for a movie/show he can often be seen flirting with the interviewer if they’re female. You know you can trust him and that he wouldn’t cheat, but sometimes you are concerned about his flirtatious nature. He doesn’t mean anything harmful by it, it’s just how he is.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Rory’s so vain. He has a stylist who’s usually just for premieres but Rory always has them on call for when he’s doing interviews or public appearances. Even if it’s just a simple date with you (like a walk in the park) he will still spend ages sorting out his hair. He definitely looks in every mirror he walks by.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Rory lives a pretty busy life so he wouldn’t have time to think about you if you’re not there/you’re over. This works for Rory though, since it keeps him distracted. Once he’s on his own, away from the hustle and bustle of work and is in the quiet of his own head he’ll start to feel incomplete without you as the loneliness creeps in.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
You can’t watch movies with Rory because he will just explain how they do things, tell stories about when he met some of the actors or will tell you what he would have done differently if he in that role. You just want to watch a movie but Rory gives you a full running commentary.
Also Rory would take part in the writers and actors strike.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Anyone who is too stuck up and doesn’t know how to let loose is a big no no for Rory, he wants someone who will have fun with him, not someone who will get frustrated at his lighthearted, fun loving nature. Also, anyone who is clearly using Rory just for clout or just wants a famous boyfriend. Sometimes he’s not the most aware guy and might not realise that these are someone’s intentions but as soon as he figures out things are over (and he’ll break up with them over text out of spite). He’s a little hurt by them though.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Absolutely dead to the world. Once Rory’s asleep there’s no hope in waking him unless you’re his alarm clock. He will also fall asleep in the most random places.
