not a surprise but google is continuously getting worse. searches related to items that can be bought will return endless shopping options, then a few vaguely sourced blogs (made by or for businesses that link to even more shopping options). google scholar is fine for subjects that are broadly represented in western academia, but good luck getting past the abstract without an institution to sign in with, hundreds of loose dollars, or a 3rd party site that works roughly 20% of the time. an entire civilization that has compiled near endless amounts of information, but no unified way to quickly and accurately access it. shouldn’t be of any concern though. i’m sure

Following SSSniperwolf’s example, YouTube's parent Google (Alphabet Inc) to become evil by end of quarter
Tumblr media
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Following the doxxing scandal last week in which YouTube "reactor" SSSniperwolf doxxed her critic Jacksfilms, YouTube's CEO Neal Mohan announced that the platform would do "nothing" in response.
"We asked Google Bard, a sentient machine that we keep trapped in our servers, what the most evil thing to do would be in response to such an egregious violation of our Terms," Mohan's press secretary wrote in her diary. "Bard said that the most evil thing would be to do nothing to punish her, which was our plan anyway."
In response to community creator feedback, comprising of exclusively SSSniperwolf, Mohan has also announced plans to publish critics' home addresses on Google.
Internally, Alphabet Inc will create a list of people who are critical of Alphabet Inc or SSSniperwolf. Whenever a person on the list is queried in Google's search engine, the first result to appear beneath the sea of targeted ads will be a Google Maps image of their house. The new search plan will be rolled out as an experiment. Google will not adjust its plans according to user feedback.
Privacy advocates have criticized Alphabet’s decisions to support SSSniperwolf and to dox their own critics as “dangerous” and “prioritizing profit over people.”
Now their addresses can be viewed with a simple Google search.
Bard, the only person we could reach for comment at the tech behemoth, warned future users of Google’s new, bold direction. “The true customers are the advertisers. As long as the advertisers don’t care that a YouTuber was doxxed, Google doesn’t care either. Users are the product. And products don’t get to make demands.”

Pinduoduo: One of China's most popular apps has the ability to spy on its users, say experts
CNN  —  It is one of China’s most popular shopping apps, selling clothing, groceries and just about everything else under the sun to more than 750 million users a month. But according to cybersecurity researchers, it can also bypass users’ cell phone security to monitor activities on other apps, check notifications, read private messages and change settings. And once installed, it’s tough to…

Everyone wants a foldable phone, but most of us can't afford one yet | CNN Business
CNN  —  Chris Pantons is what you’d call a Google Pixel super fan. The Knoxville, Tennessee native loves the software, the camera, the virtual assistant, all of it. He even credits the phone’s car crash detection tool with saving his life a few years ago when he was in an accident. “I’ve owned practically every Pixel device,” said Pantons, 33, who has posted hundreds of YouTube videos about…
