It would only be a matter of time before my experience became material for songs in the same way as Chrissie's had. Chrissie was cast (quite unfairly) as the vapid, boutique and disco-haunting bitch who gets her due. I was to become the tormented specimen, the butterfly writhing on the pin. When your personal pain becomes material for songs and the songs become hit singles, the process is strangely unnerving, however flattering it may at first seem.
But then again, what else could the poor bastard have done?

Did Taylor Swift write "Sweet Nothing" about Paul McCartney and his wife's summer in Wicklow in 1971?
Tumblr media
The song "Sweet Nothing" on Taylor Swift's Midnights has always stood out to me as a bit of an anomaly. Until this intriguing quote by Paul McCartney caught my eye:
In a 2001 ABC interview about his wife Linda, who passed away in 1998, Paul McCartney said:
"I would go out for a run, think of some words, get home from the run, write them down, and make a cup a tea for Linda," said McCartney, who would bring it to her for breakfast. "I'd make a little tray, and go up, and then I'd say, 'Hey, by the way, do you want to hear some poetry?' She'd always … she'd say, 'Yeah.' And so I wrote that poem." 'Blessed.' I would come back from a run. With lines of poetry to tell. And having listened, she would say "What a mind."
This is a direct quote and exact same storyline as in "Sweet Nothing." There is NO WAY that is a coincidence. So I wanted to see if Paul and Linda had any connection to Wicklow - the place mentioned in the song.
I think the McCartney family vacationed at the Luggala Estate in Co. Wicklow, Ireland in the summer of 1971 as an escape from the aftermath of the Beatles breakup.
A sweet Wicklow love story:
Paul McCartney has connections to Luggala going back to 1965-1966 when he partied at the estate with Guinness Brewing heir Tara Browne who was killed in a car accident a few months after his raucous 21st birthday, and inspired the Beatles song "A Day in the Life." Paul was close to Tara and his death deeply impacted him. This Rolling Stone article details their relationship and mentions that Paul has visited Luggala to visit Tara's gravesite since then on "numerous occasions." Paul had not met his wife Linda yet while Tara was alive, but this proves Paul's deep and personal ties to the family and their 5,000 acre private estate in the Wicklow Mountains, which continued to be a private retreat for celebrity guests until it was sold in 2019.
Tumblr media
Paul McCartney has posted multiple family photos taken by his wife in the summer of 1971 that appear to be taken near the Luggala Estate in Co. Wicklow. He tweeted this photo on St. Patricks day in 2017 which a previous Reddit thread links to Wicklow in 1971. And recently on March 2022 he tweeted this photo which appears to be taken the same day judging by his shirt and his dog, and credits the photo as being taken by his wife (she was a professional photographer) in Ireland in 1971. Here you have a better view of the surrounding mountains and rocky streams (full of pebbles I'd imagine...) It's notable that the second photo was posted March 2022 around the time when Taylor would be writing and recording the Midnights album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you look at the aerial view of Luggala Estate (Now showing on Google Maps as Luggala Lodge), I believe that these photos were taken in one of the rocky streams that feed into the private lake...which is named Lough Tay. (I like to think it's an extra little wink from Taylor that this investigation literally led me to a lake named Lough Tay.)
This area is completely private and the closest public access is from a hiking overlook. This seems like a great place for one of the most famous musicians in the world to hide out with his two young children, 2 dogs, and Linda, who would have been pregnant with Stella McCartney (born Sept 13, 1971).
We know that the family and their dogs were in Ireland in the summer of 1971 from this newspaper article where they were photographed at an airport in August leaving Ireland, which means it's possible that they were in Wicklow a few weeks earlier in July.
Tumblr media
Even though The Beatles broke up in 1969, it continued to be messy between members of the band and the financials involved for the next few years. During the summer of 1971 Paul McCartney and John Lennon were embroiled in a very public fight. There were lawsuits and scathing letters (dated 1971) and it's all very complicated so I won't go into it here, but this article has a good overview.
The lyric, "Industry disruptors and soul deconstructors and smooth-talking hucksters out glad-handing each other" could reference these incidents. I could see Taylor relating to Paul going through this public turmoil surrounding business with former friends, because it is similar to what she's going through with her masters.
Tumblr media
The lyric "You're in the kitchen humming" could reference Linda's passion for cooking and vegetarian activism. She literally founded a food company and wrote a cookbook. This darling photo on her website shows her cooking at the family home in Scotland in the 1970s. Linda was also a singer and recorded many songs with Paul, so the idea that she could be "humming" makes sense.
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift has been friends with the McCartney family for a while. She first met Paul in 2010. She collaborated with Stella McCartney in 2019 for a clothing line as part of the Lover era, and Stella also dressed her for the Evermore album cover in 2020.
Tumblr media
Taylor and Paul McCartney famously interviewed each other for Rolling Stone's "Musicians on Musicians" in 2020. In this article they mention how they both like writing under pseudonyms.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
But the most surprising thing I learned is that Paul actually wrote a song dedicated to Taylor and her relationship with her fans called "Who Cares."
youtube
Notably, the music video also features Taylor's longtime friend Emma Stone wearing rainbow makeup in an otherwise black-and-white world full of cartoonish bullies. It's notable that the music video was released Dec 2018, right before the Lover era would kick off a few months later. Perhaps Paul was showing a bit of preemptive support for Taylor as she embarked on what many of us believe was intended to be her coming out era?
Tumblr media
Now to the William Bowery of it all:
Taylor clearly wants us to think Sweet Nothing is about Joe because of the Wicklow name drop, where Joe was papped in July 2021, which looks staged to me.
Interestingly, I can't find any photos of Taylor being seen anywhere near Wicklow, but for some reason she staged a whole photoshoot in Northern Ireland in July, where locals said she "arrived and left by helicopter in a fleeting visit."
Tumblr media
She was also seen in several different locations in Belfast in fan photos. This article also says part of Red TV was recorded in Belfast.
Clearly she wanted to be seen and linked to Northern Ireland, and the lyric easily could have been "Does it ever miss Belfast sometimes?" (same number of syllables) but it's not.
"Sweet Nothing" does have a William Bowery co-writing credit. Would Sir Paul McCartney agree to a secret writing credit? Maybe.
I read an interesting twitter thread from a lawyer (who is a Gaylor) that discusses how William Bowery could be a name under which Taylor commissions writing "for hire." Meaning it could be Joe or multiple other people writing under that pseudonym, as opposed to the "Willam Bowery" (spelled different) which is listed as a U.S. Citizen.
Even if Paul wasn't involved in writing the song, I believe he inspired "Sweet Nothing."
---
Note: This theory was originally posted on the R/GaylorSwift subreddit Dec 22, 2022 which is currently set to private. I am the original author of the Reddit post (u/-periwinkle), and am reblogging it on my Tumblr because this theory has been gaining traction and I wanted to create a public version. This version has been slightly expanded and updated with better images. Also, I was not the first person to uncover the "what a mind" quote, and the original person who found it is tagged on Reddit.

The Dark Horse Tour Rolling Stone article/review and its aftermath...
“If you get depressed, you start agreeing with them. If you start agreeing with them then you just go and do yourself in. But I’m, I wouldn’t do that because enough things happened to prove that it’s not exactly how they see it, you know. I mean, one situation with the rock press, for example, was one guy who came to write an article because he disagreed with another article that had been written in his paper. And so he said, ‘I’ve seen, you know, seven of these concerts and I disagree, and I want to write it from my point of view.’ Then his article came out and it was not really good at all, and I thought, well, he was just, just cheating me, you know, just to get in to talk to me. But then he wrote a letter to me and sent what he wrote, and to compare that to what they printed, he said they just cut it out, they just cut out any favorable references to the music or to the response from the audience. [...] These people… who supposedly loved me and I’m supposed to love them, and I see them, they’re just dropping apart at the seams with hate. This is… I’m talking about Rolling Stone, actually, talking about Jan Wenner.“ - George Harrison, radio interview, August 1975 “[Larry] Sloman was so upset he sent Harrison the original unedited draft of the story, to which Harrison responded, according to Sloman, ‘I’m glad you sent me that article, Larry. I thought you were an asshole and then I realized that it was Rolling Stone that was the asshole.‘“ - Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine (x) “I was told George Harrison was reluctant to be included in Rolling Stone’s 25th anniversary portfolio in 1992—something about a mixed review of his 1974 album Dark Horse. He eventually agreed to a quick, simple portrait, but I wanted so badly to win him over. I knew he was an avid gardener and I had a deep appreciation of Paul Caponigro’s photographs of sunflowers, so I planned to bring some. A few days before our session, I did a shoot with Tom Petty for the same issue. When I told him George was on the fence, he said that the way to win George over was to bring ukuleles. I brought 5. George was quiet but a willing participant. And after the shoot was over, as a gift, he picked up the Martin ukulele and played 20 minutes of Hawaiian love songs for us. The entire team sat down and listened to him. When we were finished, he turned to me and said ‘we’ll meet someday on the avenue,’ and headed to his car with the ukulele—which happened to be the most expensive one. When I told him it was a rental, he said with a wink, ‘You can bill Jann Wenner,’ Rolling Stone’s editor-in-chief.” - Instagram, February 26, 2021 (x)

March 17, 1978
London, England
Elvis Costello released “This Year's Model,” first album with the Attractions. It was recorded at Eden Studios in Chiswick.
The title track is an answer song to the Rolling Stones' "Stupid Girl,” according to Costello, who said he was often listening to the Stones album “Aftermath” at the time.

The Rolling Stones - "Doncha Bother Me" From the album Aftermath (April 15, 1966)
Last song scrobbled from iTunes at Last.fm
From the first Stones album to consist entirely of Jagger/Richard compositions.
And like Revolver from the same year, it is not the artist's best, but it is better than both its preceding album (Out of Our Heads) and its successor (Between the Buttons). If you wanted to have an argument about which was the better musical year, this fact alone would have me leaning towards 1966 over 1967

Every Record I Own - Day 797: Rolling Stones Their Satanic Majesties Request
The Rolling Stones put out their first album in 1964. By 1967, they had released their eighth album, Their Satanic Majesties Request. Despite those fruitful first couple of years, there isn't much from that period that really appeals to me until they released Aftermath in 1966. Up until that point, the majority of their catalog consisted of covers, with the occasional original tune by Jagger and Richards thrown in for good measure. While their early takes on American blues and rock n' roll weren't without their merits, those early albums have yet to really rope me in. For me, the Stones become interesting when they become their own songwriting force.
While by no means their first flirtation with baroque pop / psychedelia, Their Satanic Majesties Request captures The Stones at their most "out there." Sure, they would take a stab at a ton of different music styles over the next ten years... everything from punk to disco to reggae to gospel... but no Stones album seems less in step with their general sound than Satanic Majesties.
Forget whatever you thought you knew about the Stones: Their Satanic Majesties Request is a strange and fantastic trip. Initially panned by critics and chalked up as a rip-off of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (somehow neglecting the Stones' penchant for being the evil twins to the Fab Four), the album has now generally been considered a standout of their lengthy career. Sure, "Sing This All Together" and "On With The Show" possess some of Sgt. Pepper's strange carnival spirit, but the Beatles never went as far down the rabbit hole of psychedelic drones and sound collage as the Stones went on tracks like "Sing This All Together (See What Happens)" or "Gomper."
I'd also argue that nothing on Sgt. Pepper's comes close to pop perfection as songs like "2000 Man" and "She's A Rainbow." If your idea of the Stones involves Keith Richards' pentatonic guitar lines and Mick Jagger's sassy vocals, you'll barely recognize the band on Satanic Majesties. The guitar is buried in a mix saturated with organ, brass, sitar, and auxiliary percussion. The songs are constructed around pop melodies and studio experiments instead of riffs. While most Stones' albums from the '60s and '70s involved the band jamming together until they captured lightning in the bottle, Satanic Majesties was pieced together as members wandered in and out of the studio between dealing with drug issues and resulting legal troubles. As a result, it sounds less like a rock band in the wild and more like, well, what you see on the album cover.
Their Satanic Majesties Request vacillates between pop perfection and the kind of sonic explorations that krautrock bands would make their bread and butter in the next decade. It's strange. It's catchy. And it's one of those most exciting outliers in the Stones catalog.

I feel so bad for Chrissie. The songs that Jagger wrote for her are.....she was just in love and wanted a normal relationship, family, children. Plus Marianne being a bitch and treating Chrissie like a trash, when she literally did the same later.
I feel bad for Chrissie too. Stupid Girl is a really fucked up song and I can't imagine how sad she felt about it. Under My Thumb is really disgusting, and I hate that they're sonically good songs to listen to. I still listen to them (Aftermath is such a great album, I love it), but it's really... 😮‍💨
Chrissie was a product of her time and that's okay! Unfortunately, she got involved with a rockstar on the verge of his rise to fame and with that came women, money and drugs. Mick was about to find out how many cunts he could get with rockstar status; he didn't really want a relationship. And yet he was so controlling with poor Chrissie. Even his mom basically said he's a control freak.
Marianne Faithfull was horrible to Chrissie, it's disgusting. She didn't even care that the girl had tried to commit suicide because of the man she was now seeing and totally ignored her participation in the other woman's anguish. I repeat, none of Jagger's women were girl's girl!
Mick changed the locks on the place where he lived with Chrissie and she couldn't even get her things back! Marianne describes in her book some of the things Chrissie had in the apartment; she had the courage to go through Chrissie's belongings 🤢
I congratulate Marianne for being brazen enough to not feign sympathy and having the courage to put in such an absurd line as saying she didn't care about someone's suicide attempt. That's exactly who she was.
If you want to know, Marianne says that the songs about Chrissie were unfair. But only because she was comparing herself to Chrissie, and said it was a matter of time before "my experience became material for songs in the same way as Chrissie's had."
But karma hit Marianne Faithfull hard, as you may know. She went through hell during her relationship with Mick.

Bonjour tout le monde it’s 5c at the moment brrr! Hopefully it will warm up by this afternoon.
Do you ever get to Sunday and wonder where the week has gone and more importantly what you have done with the week? This is one of the reasons why I do this blog, it’s because I often think I have done nothing but when I look back I realise that you may have done a great deal.
I was happy to receive my “convocation” for my appointment with the oncologist, it is for Friday 23rd. Although I am pleased to have the appointment it coincides with my knitting group which is a little sad. I have my taxi booked and fingers crossed I am not there for hours and hours.
Yet another little “hitch” with regard to water and this time it wasn’t just hot water it was a lack of any water! Anyway I asked the plumber to call and it was found that the tap was full of limescale. We got it all sorted, a new tap and waste for the bathroom and I am a happy bunny again.
It’s coming around to the renewal of my house insurance, which is currently held with a company in Poitou-Charentes. I have been very happy with the insurer I chose in town for my other policies so I have asked them to give me a quote. It was promptly done and so I should soon be insured in a “one stop shop” in town.
My American friend rang me from the states, where she is currently having treatment. She asked if I could go to her home and photograph her garden. Imagine my surprise when there were two men at her home (one a workman) they said come in and look at the rear garden too. Then the workman took me round the ground floor asking me to take photos of the work he is doing in the kitchen. What a pleasant surprise that was not only for me but also for my friend.
Yesterday, a friend in the UK messaged to tell me that her grandson had put in an appearance early that morning. He was not full term, actually only 26 weeks, so here is hoping that his mum and him get through these days and weeks. Quite a surprise and a worry I would imagine too.
Let’s have a look at my choice of songs for this week. They go quite a way back, the first song taken from an album which my sister had long before we even had our first Dansette record player. It’s music I remember hearing, even though my age hadn’t attained double figures, I still love the tracks today as much as at that time. So taken from the album “Aftermath” by the Rolling Stones released in 1966 is the track “Under My Thumb”.
The second song is from 1971, the first single for this band. The band featured the super talented Roy Wood, along with Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan who had been part of the group “The Move”. The song was so totally different to anything else at that time it was “10538 Overture”. Both groups have had some amazing songs and it can be hard to choose a favourite but these songs have always had a place in my heart.
I sometimes feel I am a little boring about my garden, ok so it’s not everyone’s idea of a beautiful place but believe me I do the best I can do to have some colour out there. Two years ago I planted up a planter and I loved that so much. I decided to change the compost, remove any dead plants and replant any others. I had bought a pack which turned out to be 10 primulas not 8 as I first thought. They had been in the supermarket too long, were dry as a bone and a lot of them looked dead! However, looks can be deceptive and a quick “snip” to remove brown and broken leaves found that they were pot bound and in need of a very big drink. I rejuvenated the planter and put the remaining primulas into the “potager” hoping to help them improve. I want to lay cardboard in the rear garden and “re-home” the primulas and the violas that self seeded last year. This morning I was so upset as I saw that “something”, possibly a cat, had dug up three of the primulas in order to use the potager as a toilet. It has also been using the high planter as a toilet, last year I grew beetroot, lettuce, radish and spring onions in that planter. It’s very disappointing and I even felt “what is the point” in growing stuff if some animal is going to keep messing in the earth. However, it does give me a lot of pleasure seeing my plants growing so should I fight back?
I really must send another email to my friends in Bristol. I haven’t heard from them since the beginning of the year and it’s not like them to be in touch.
Monique is still not well and will be seeing the oncologist on Monday 26th. It’s a couple of weeks since I have seen Anie too, time flies!
“The Photographer” had a weeks holiday from work last week as it was his daughters “half term” from school. On Monday he took his two children (aged 5.5 and 2.5 years) on the train to London. He stayed with his Aunt and Uncle and had planned visits with the children to the zoo and the Natural History Museum. The children had a wonderful time, so did “The Photographer” but he was exhausted by the time he got home on Thursday. The children returned to their Mum on Friday and we excited about going, obviously they had a lot to tell her. Yesterday, he was at Scarborough AFC taking photos of their game.
“The Trainee Solicitor” and “Ex-Graduate” have finished work now for a well earned week of rest and relaxation. They are heading to the Yorkshire Dales for some good country air, a little walking and perhaps a lot of reading!
Sorry just had a little break, it was time for tea and cornflakes 😉.
Yes the cat has been back and turned the earth in the potager, so I have put more pepper down, plus today, I will put stakes into the earth and let’s see it try to “squat” there!
I tell myself every morning that I will have a walk and do I? Not everyday and actually the days I do go out for that walk are getting fewer and fewer. I had a good walk one day and was spurred on for more of the same but after a shorter walk the following day it has tailed off again! I really must “programme” myself to a walk.
So now I am going to send a message or two to friends, read my book for a short time. Do the normal household jobs, bed making, washing up etc. Start the “walking programme” and generally find something to tell you about next week 😂.
Bon dimanche!
