Dying mountain gorilla Ndakasi in the arms of her Congolese caregiver of 13 years, Andre Bauma l Virunga National Park, Congo(DRC)
Ndakasi, who was rescued by Virunga park rangers at the age of just 2 months old after her troop was massacred by a charcoal mafia, a criminal group involved in the illegal charcoal trade, in 2007.  After the massacre, Ndakasi was taken to a rescue center where she first met Bauma, who held her close all night long to keep her warm and comfort her.
"It was Ndakasi's sweet nature and intelligence that helped me to understand the connection between humans and [other] great apes and why we should do everything in our power to protect them," Bauma said, "I am proud to have called Ndakasi my friend. I loved her like a child." more read

A lowland gorilla, saved from a bushmeat market, rests drowsily in the arms of the man who helped rescue her.
Pinkin, the gorilla, awoke after being sedated on a drive in Cameroon alongside Appolinaire Ndohoudou, a worker with Ape Action Africa.
The nonprofit works to save gorillas like Pinkin from bush meat markets, where butchered animals such as apes, elephants and antelopes are sold as food.
Poachers captured Pinkin and removed her from her habitat before she found herself safe with @ApeActionAfrica.
Appolinaire, who once fled Chad for Cameroon after a civil war, now helps raise gorillas like Pinkin.

Ndakasi the mountain gorilla lays in the arms of ranger Andre Bauma, her caregiver of 13 years, before dying on Sept. 26 after a long illness.
Mr. Stirton had photographed Ndakasi in 2007 when, at two months old, she survived the slaughter of her troop by a syndicate involved in the illegal charcoal trade. She has appeared in a documentary and had a moment of viral internet fame in 2019 when she photo-bombed the selfie of another park ranger.

High In The Pangani Mountains ⛰
Lives A Species Of Primate that is the most crucial aspect of The African Continent
THE MIGHTY GORILLA 🦍
As a child, Jill Young and her mother, Ruth Young, a primatologist, observe and study Mountain Gorillas ⛰ 🦍 in the Pangani Mountains in Central Africa, including an infant gorilla whom Jill names
JOE
and his mother.
One evening, a group of poachers led by Andrei Strasser storm the mountains and Kweli, Ruth's friend, alerts her to the men as she is putting Jill to bed.
Ruth heads into the mountains, and Jill follows shortly afterward. Strasser shoots and kills both Joe and Jill's mothers and when he tries to capture Joe, he bites off his trigger finger and thumb, causing him to swear revenge on the little gorilla. Before Ruth dies, she has Jill promise to protect Joe.
TWELVE YEARS LATER, JOE HAS NOW GROWN
