why do new accounts default to "for you"? it feels like it goes against the spirit of tumblr to default to an algorithmic timeline instead of a chronological one.

Answer: Hello there, @raptorgirl413!

This is a great question. So, we don’t necessarily believe the chronological timeline is “the spirit of Tumblr”—having the option to use it is the spirit of Tumblr, for sure. And we do not want to lose that part of Tumblr.

But it’s also true that most people signing up here from other sites and social networks actually aren’t super familiar with how it works. This can lead to a confusing or even empty first experience, which is not good. Which is specifically bad, in fact. We want people to find great content on Tumblr as quickly as possible, and to give them the best head start they can have to build their chronological Following feed. That’s why we’re working on the ability to fully configure your dashboard tabs. New folks may start with For You, but they don’t have to stay there if they don’t want to! Having those options feels like the spirit of Tumblr to us, and keeping things in that same spirit is ultimately as important to us as it is to you.

Hymn to Nisaba

The Hymn to Nisaba (c. 3rd millennium BCE) is a poem praising Nisaba, the Sumerian goddess of writing and accounts who also served as scribe of the gods. The poem is officially dedicated to Enki, the god of wisdom (sometimes given as her father, sometimes as “patron”), but the majority of the text focuses on Nisaba and her attributes.

Nisaba (also given as Naga, Se-Naga, Nissaba, and Nidaba) was especially popular during the Early Dynastic Period in Mesopotamia (2900-2334 BCE) as, according to scholar Jeremy Black, “without her, harvests could not be calculated, nor bread and beer offerings apportioned” since she was the goddess of accounts who made sure records were accurate (Literature, 292). She was also originally a grain goddess associated with fertility and her power to engender and increase carried over from an agricultural deity who made the crops grow to a literary goddess who inspired written works.

Good news...at last

OK. So I've been unemployed since November and it has been over 5 months and I was about to have to sell my house because I was running out of money (stressful....which is why I haven't been posting) BUT I had 3 great interviews with a very awesome company and they sent me a job offer TODAY and I signed it.

I am so happy and excited and it took a long time but I am finally going to have a job. And what is more, is it is a great job and I ended up not having to settle for something I hated.

I start May 15th. I'm stoked. It's doing all math and numbers in their finance department and I LOVE that.

How I'm Choosing

When it comes to my account choices, my goal is to not use any of the youtubers I discussed previously. While I tend to watch the same people, I want to have some variety in my analysis. I think that I will use more comedy focused youtubers, but I may end up using drama/news reporting channels as they upload much more frequently. I will still use youtubers that I am familiar with, but probably none of my absolute favorites (I agree with the oversaturation of the creator and do not want to grow tired of the content I typically watch).

Deleting a single side-blog is deleting all blogs including the primary one... it seems that this is either a bug or UI being unclear?

Is there a way to delete side blogs without completely erasing all blogs?

So, we’ve been testing this vigorously and have been unable to reproduce the issue. We have persisted, just in case this is an edge case we haven’t found yet, but we have reached out to you directly for further clarification.

Relatedly, we should note that we have recently made some updates to clarify that deleting the main blog will delete your entire account. The "Delete account" button is now only in Settings, at the bottom, and no longer in your main blog’s settings. You can find out more here in this post from @changes.
