it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl frame Andrew as hating Aaron and being needlessly cruel to him... bc while yes, their relationship is fractured and strained, Andrew genuinely cares about his brother and wants the best for him, he just doesn't know how to show that in a normal way.
like he might not know how to express it in a healthy manner but Andrew LOVES Aaron, like he truly just wants Aaron to be healthy and safe. It's like, his whole Thing. Aaron is one of the most important people in his life. Andrew wants him around. He'd do anything to protect him.
I guarantee Andrew wants to be emotionally close to Aaron too, he just doesn't have the tools to do that and the thought of letting someone in terrifies him. He also has no concept of what a healthy sibling relationship looks like, so he has no frame of reference to work from.

more mic’d up andrew minyard when?? mic’d up AARON minyard when?? other mic’d up fox when??
Aaron Minyard Mic’d up
Hes reluctant to do it for a long fucking time
He thinks its kinda dumb
But he mostly doesn’t wanna get scolded for what his mic would pick up
Because my boy is a shit talker
He’s saying everything and anything he can to rile up the other team
He’s even trying to rile up the other foxes tbh
So when he finally agrees he makes coach promise he won’t get in trouble
He body slams the opposing striker (because if there’s one thing Aaron’s gonna do it’s put his all into a body check)
And the opposing striker is mad like visibly fuming
He’s all up in Aaron’s space, a moment away from starting a fight
And Aaron thinks it’s the funniest thing ever
He’s laughing his ass off while loudly crashing their raquets against each other
‘What you’re upset I hit you? I’m five foot nothing dude sounds like a you problem’
And he’s lucky the striker gets pulled away by his teammates cause he’s over 6 foot
And Aaron is all bark, no bite
*whispering into the mic as he walks away* ‘I’ll be honest guys, he would’ve kicked my ass but that was to good of an opportunity to pass up’
His best moments come from when he trips up a striker
*sends the striker sprawling onto their ass* ‘womp womp’
*body slams one into the wall* ‘maybe next time man’
*slams the ball out of their racquet* ‘that’s not yours cmon now’
He flirts with the opposing team but in German
Because he’s discovered that when they can’t understand what he’s saying it really gets to them
And he’ll slip in a word in English so they figure out he’s flirting
And they’re even more pissed and distracted that they mess up what would’ve been a solid play
‘What the fuck did you just say to me!?’
‘Hey, hey sorry just trying to have a nice conversation’ *winks and walks away to start up play again*
*Opposing striker, absolutely baffled and fuming*
His striker accidentally trips him up and gets past to Andrew
And Aaron doesn’t even have to look at Andrew to see the heavy bored expression he’s giving him
Aaron knows he’s probably plotting where to hide his body if he does it again
*Andrew, shaking his head in disappointment as he smacks the ball away*
*Aaron rolling onto his knees and pleading for mercy while laughing* ‘my bad, let’s just talk this out I promise it won’t happen again it was Nicky’s fault’
This happens a lot whenever they’re both on the court
Because making a joke out of Exy is one of the only ways they both actually enjoy it sometimes
And it’s something they can actually bond over
But oh god forbid if someone on the other team says something about Andrew
That’s when Aaron just looses it
Doesn’t matter if the player is ten times his size, he becomes all bite
‘Put your psycho pet brother on a leash already’
And Aaron’s helmets already off and he’s going for his gloves next
*Matt grabbing him and holding him back* ‘cmon Matt it’ll be good, he asked for it, it’ll be good’
‘No Aaron, no red cards’
‘But it’ll be fun’ *tries to throw his helmet at the other player*
He gets a yellow card for it but he proudly displays it by tucking it into the front of his jersey
‘I’m gonna frame this one coach’ he tells Wymack as he sits on the bench for his penalty
Kevin’s always the most annoyed by Aaron’s shit talking because it threatens the game and Aaron’s wellbeing
And he also gets the most riled up whenever Aaron’s turns it onto him
*Kevin storming over to Aaron after he almost gets ejected* ‘Stop saying shit that’ll get you kicked out of the game you idiot’
‘Oh cmon Day I know you like em a little feisty, I’m just trying to make you happy my Queen,’
And Kevin just smacks the top of his helmet and turns to walk away
‘I can get on my knees to apologize if you want, I know you like me on my knees’
And Kevin just has to tune him out cause Aaron won’t stop if he feeds into it
He gets really into the game sometimes though (because he’s competitive and he can’t help it)
Like he’s screaming and cheering so loud at certain points the mic is crackling
*Kevin and Neil scoring the goal that pulls them into the lead* ‘LETS FUCKING GO’
When he’s on the bench he’s the one banging on the plexi glass
He’s screaming at them to get their heads out of their asses or cheering them on even though they can’t hear him
And then he gets out of his competitive streak and he’s lowkey embarrassed
‘If that gets posted online I will never recover’ he mutters after he’s just jumped into Matt’s arms in celebration
When the foxes listen to his recording later they’re shocked by how creative Aaron gets with all of it
And they find it hilarious
And endearing
And they like that they’re getting to see a new part of Aaron as he gets more comfortable with the team
He is by far one of the most aggressive of the foxes when he’s on the court, both physically and verbally
And the fans absolutely eat it the fuck up
But Wymack doesn’t mic him up often because he is lowkey a liability because of what he says

You peeked out from through the sliver of darkness between the door and the frame. Daryl was standing there looking anxious. Even in the dim light, he could see the shadow of bruising underneath your eyes. He hadn't slept: he was worried sick about you. You'd had a bad run in with some men outside the walls and he hadn't been there to protect you. He'd been out with Aaron, looking for people to bring in, and as soon as he'd heard what had happened, his stomach had locked into a knot and not let up. He'd been hoping to see you earlier in the day, but you hadn't come out of your place and his worry overwhelmed him.
"Hey," he said gently. His brow was heavily furrowed creating deep lines on his forehead.
"Daryl," you said, pulling the door open more widely. "Hi." You looked like you hadn't slept either.
He was wringing his hands. " 'M sorry. I dun mean to bother ya... I just—I heard what happened and I wanted to see how yer doin' and if there's anythin' I can do, anythin' ya need."
"Oh. Oh, you never bother me, Daryl." You paused and seemed to consider how to answer. "I'm—well, doing as well as expected I suppose."
Daryl frowned and shifted anxiously. "Yeah..." He cleared his throat and seemed to decide something. "I know I ain't the person ya probably want, but 'm here, for whatever ya need."
You looked confused and your hand dropped from the door. "What do you mean you're not—not the person I want?"
Daryl looked uncomfortable and his eyes ducked your gaze and fixed on his boots. "Ya know—Rick. I thought ya might rather—"
Your brows furrowed deeply and you interrupted him in a tone that drew his blue eyes back to yours. "Daryl—" You shook your head. "I love Rick, of course I do. He's like a brother to me, but—I don't—I don't feel anything other than that for him. Did you think—you thought—?"
Daryl was staring at you in surprise and didn't seem able to find anything to say, his mouth was hanging half open. "Uhh..."
You let out a nervous laugh and stepped back. "Why don't you come in?" you said. And Daryl took you up on that instantly.
Prompt: "I know I'm not the person you want, but I'm here."

hiii!!!
i was wondering if you can do some miles earth 1610 and earth 42 miles head canons if they were your older brother??
btw I love ur work <333
in which miles is your older brother and your favorite hobby is annoying the shit out of him
the brief mention of Jeff can be present or past, meaning this can be interpreted as 1610 or 42. don’t think it needs to be mentioned but y’all are siblings in this au so it’s obviously platonic lmfao
“Miles!” you sang delightfully on your way to his room, nearly skipping with the excitement of aggravating your older sibling. “Dear, sweet ‘ole brother of mine~”
“Nope, leave me alone.”
His voice, sounding just a tad deeper than it did last week, echoed from down the hall as you approached.
Miles was already up from his bed and on the way to close his door, but you somehow beat him there and leaned your shoulder against the frame. A proposition was eminent in your demeanor, and it made his top lip turn up in distaste.
“Hey Milesy. What’s up?”
He crossed his arms. “You stopped calling me that when you were six.”
Perhaps you were laying it on a little thick, but you’d already gotten this far, so you played on.
“And? Maybe… I’m feeling… nostalgic.” you shrugged.
“Spell nostalgic.” He challenged smugly.
“Anyways!” You abruptly changed the subject with a cheeky grin, the dissimilarity in your expressions comical. “Wanna do me a teeny-tiny favor?”
He couldn’t have shot you down faster.
“Absolutely not. I’d rather use the bathroom after Dad.”
You cringed at the thought. Was he that unwilling?
“Why not?”
“Are you crazy?” Miles gawked. “I got my door taken off the hinges the last time you asked for a ‘teeny-tiny favor’,” he quoted the words with his fingers. “Get somebody else to do it—“
“Wait!” You foiled his sudden attempt to shut his door by using your right foot to stop it— the foot in question, currently clad in a fuzzy, christmas themed sock.
It was the middle of April. But that wasn’t important.
Miles’ hazel eyes agitatedly narrowed at you between the small gap you’d managed to keep open. You both knew he could easily close his door if he really tried, but he didn’t want to hurt you. Though he was considering it.
“Pleaaaseee?” Hands clasped to accompany your begging, you whined at him in a tone that made him grimace.
“Y/n, what did I just say?” He grumbled. “No escuchas. (you don’t listen). It’s like you were born without ears or something.”
“You don’t even know what I’m going to ask you for!”
He shook his head, “I don’t need to!Knowing you, it’s something stupid.”
Making his way to the kitchen, Miles immediately recognized the scent on the hoodie you were wearing when he brushed past your shoulder.
It was the one you’d bought him last year as a birthday gift. He hadn’t noticed it was missing until now, and after it being in your possession for God knows how long, the remnants of his cologne were now drowned out by some tooty-fruity ass body spritz that had his head hurting.
“And stop wearing my clothes, dude. You always give ‘em back smelling like Victoria Body Works and argon oil. That’s if you even give them back.”
Yeah, ‘Victoria Body Works’ was definitely not a thing.
Hot on his heels like a cold that medicine just couldn’t kick, your brows pinched together while you accompanied him through the empty apartment on what you assumed was a search for food.
“It’s Victoria’s secret, dumbass. This how I know you ain’t got hoes.”
“Who?” Miles quirked a brow as he sifted through the snack cupboard for a box of something to demolish in an hour.
“You-“
“—Asked. Bozo.”
“Wow,” you scoffed, a deadpan look on your face when you went to rest your elbows on the granite counter top. “You’re actually ancient.”
Miles was only two years your senior, but he acted like an old head, and that was probably the fault of your Uncle Aaron. He’d spent more time with that man than he did in his own room, which was shocking to say the least.
Miles’ eyes lit up when he discovered a hidden gem tucked into a back corner. “Yo, you gonna eat these honeybuns?”
“You gonna do me a favor?” you shot back, head tilted with the confidence of your incredible advantage over him.
Miles kissed his teeth. He had an immense sweet tooth, and you of all people knew he could never deny sugar.
“Dude, this same box has been sitting in here since last month. Which I know personally, because mom sent me out to get them. Meaning your tubby-ass forgot about these at least two weeks ago!”
Your jaw dropped in shock. “I am not tubby!”
“Tubby is a mindset. Now can I have ‘em or nah?”
You paused to think. “Depends.”
“On?” he encouraged impatiently as you toyed with the hemming of your sleeve.
“When asked where I’m at, around…Let’s say,” you chewed on your thoughts. “Six pm tomorrow— and I know you’ll be asked— say I’m at Isabella’s.”
Miles gave you a skeptical look. “And where are you really gonna be?”
He doubted he wanted to know the specifics on why he needed to lie for you, but he thought to ask anyway. You were his little sister after all, at least one person needed to know where you were.
“Nunya.” you mumbled.
“It’s a boy, isn’t it?” Miles squinted, fingers pinching either side of the honey bun’s plastic in preparation to open it.
Rolling your lips under your teeth, you awkwardly shifted your position so your back was leaned on the counter instead, and spoke cautiously as you ogled the lifting of a few floorboards.
“Maybe… But we’re just gonna-“
“Alright, alright. I got you. I’on need details.” Miles scooped the entire box of his well-earned treats into the cradle of his arm, then reached the other over your head to close all the cupboards he’d previously opened.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
You stole the opportunity to trap Miles in a quick hug, tightly squeezing your arms around his torso on purpose because you knew how much it annoyed him. He never did grow out of being ticklish.
“Yeah, yeah. Move,” voice muffled as he was mid-bite, Miles separated you from him with two, rudely-stiff fingers to the middle of your forehead, then started back to the room he rarely left, somehow grabbing the entire jug of apple juice off the counter on his way.
He called out to you without turning back around.
“But if you not back by 9, I swear I’m snitching. I need my door, trust.”
Your face screwed into one of disgust at the implication. “Ewww bro, you’re gross!”

The King's Men - Chapter Eight
Day: Friday, January 19th Time: 10:20 PM EST
Aaron glanced from Wymack to the upperclassmen, then turned back on Andrew. Neil half-expected him to take Wymack's warning as an order to silence. Instead Aaron switched to German and said, "That's not why you did it. Don't lie to me." "She was nothing and no-one to me," Andrew said. "Why else would I have killed her?" It took Aaron a minute to find his voice again. He still sounded angry, but there was a muted edge to his, "You wouldn't even look at me. You wouldn't say a word to me unless I said something first. I'm not psychic. How was I supposed to know?" "Because I made you a promise," Andrew said. "I did not forget it just because you chose not to believe me. I did what I said I would do, and fuck you for expecting anything else." There it was again: a hint of that infinite anger at Andrew's core. Aaron opened his mouth, closed it again, and dropped his eyes. Andrew stared at his brother's bowed head for an endless minute. Aaron had given up the fight, but every passing second seemed to put more tension in Andrew's frame. Neil watched Andrew's fingers curl against his thighs, not into fists but a mimicry of crushing the life from someone, and knew Andrew's temper was nearing a breaking point. He put his hand up between them, trying to block Andrew's view of Aaron, and Andrew cut a vicious look at him. A heartbeat later Andrew's expression went dead. Neil regretted his intervention immediately. No one could let go of that much rage that easily; Andrew had simply buried it where it could hurt only him. It was too late to take it back, so Neil dropped his hand to his lap in defeat.

So Much
Request from anon: Hi if your comfortable with it do you think you could do like goth teen reader who scared to come out as gay to her father or the group. Who their father is doesn't really matter. I can barely find fics like this, and if your not comfortable with the topic that's completely fine. Thanks
Aaron Hotchner x teen!reader
Summary: reader comes out to their dad as gay and his reaction is not what they expected.
A/N: *extreme sarcasm* Gill writes a character differently than expected… no way?! In all seriousness though, my approach to Hotch’s reaction might be controversial, but I wanted to capture how I think he expresses love. There is a happy ending of course <3 and Happy Pride everybody. Everyone is welcome here and I care for every single one of you.
This is a request, but is a contribution to the PRIDE CHALLENGE
CW: Haley is reader’s mom and she is in here a fair amount but no mention of reader’s appearance, lots of up and down emotions, Hotch’s reaction could bring up feelings about the sad reality of the safety of the world for the LGBTQ+ community
---
You looked yourself up and down in the mirror, trying your best to look casual. You forced your wringing hands to your sides, though they still trembled. A large exhale released some of the shoulder tension, but not enough. Any tell in your body language would be easily caught onto by your dad; Aaron Hotchner wasn't the BAU Unit Chief for nothing.
For weeks now, you’d been rehearsing the composition of your posture in front of a mirror while thinking about the words you were going to say. You had the speech perfected when you were staring at your bedroom ceiling in the dark alone. When you practiced it out-loud, you stumbled over a word or two, which was better than it had been at the beginning; your jaw would lock up in anxiety, unable to get out any words at all.
The first time they slipped past your lips, just for you, it had felt like freedom - in an empty school bathroom you looked yourself in the eyes.
“I’m gay.”
And just like that, the weight of the world had been lifted off your shoulders.
“I’m gay,” you had repeated to yourself, and that time it made you smile.
The time after that, it made you laugh. You said it until you were practically dancing alone in the space, feeling so light, so free after so long hiding who you were, even to yourself.
Coming out to someone for the first time wasn’t even on your mind when your best friend walked into the bathroom to find you. You’d been so high on joy that there was nothing stopping you from telling them, and having them join in on your dance. You considered yourself lucky that the first time happened on accident. There was no room to hide from at least one person in your life. You were met with their support and it seemed like it would have been easy to tell the other important people in your life.
It hadn’t been.
You weren’t sure why— you’d grown up in an open-minded, loving family. Not once had a seed of doubt been planted in your head that they would reject you, but there was always the dreaded what if? that crossed your mind. The infinitely small chance that it wouldn’t be okay to them held you back.
It felt silly - almost stupid - how many weeks it had taken to look at the photo of your mother that sat on your nightstand and whisper to her in a trembling voice, “Mom, I’m gay.”
She had been dead for years. There was no risk of disapproval, being looked at differently, even of her ever loving you less. But it was the first time coming out to someone felt like it mattered.
All you could do was hold the frame to your chest and cry silently in the dark, imagining that she was there to wrap you in her arms, hearing her sweet voice speak the last words she ever told you: “I love you so much.”
That was the silent promise you held onto as you padded silently past your brother’s room and to the living room. You settled your hand on the outside of your pants pocket where you had been carrying around a small picture of her for weeks now. I love you so much.
“Hey, Jack’s in bed and you don’t have school tomorrow, so I was thinking we could stay up late and watch a new movie.” Your dad came into the living room, dressed in a casual tee shirt and shorts, just like it was any other day. It wasn’t just any other day.
“Yeah, sounds good.” You swallowed down bile.
“You want popcorn?” he asked.
Part of you wanted to explode - to forego the monologue you’d been planning for weeks now. How could Hotch not see the stiffness to your posture and worry in your eyes? Could the man who profiled people for a living truly not see how his own child wasn’t acting normal? But all you could manage was a “Sure,” and he left for the kitchen.
The anger dissipated when he left, and you found yourself sitting on the couch, fumbling with the remote in shaking hands. You scrolled through the titles, landing on the one you wanted and sat. Never had you felt so stiff in your own home.
Your dad walked in with a bowl of popcorn in one hand and two cans of soda in the other. He handed one to you and you took it, murmuring a thanks under your breath. That’s when he paused.
“Are you okay?” He sat down next to you and put the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table.
In a sudden rush of anxiety, you grabbed it and wedged it into the small space between your leg and his, where it always was during movie nights so both of you could reach. Except now, you felt the need to have a physical barrier between the two of you. Maybe you felt the salty snack could soften the blow of what you were about to tell him, or maybe you just needed to feel that normalcy in case it changed everything.
“I’m uh-” the well scripted, even more well rehearsed words were nowhere to be found inside your head. You sighed. “Dad, I want to uh… tell you something.”
“What is it?” He was looking at you concerned. Still, Aaron Hotchner’s “look of concern” was ever intense. You thought about your mom’s gentle eyes, her soothing voice...
I love you so much.
“I’m gay.”
A beat of silence.
Numb anxiety caused you to turn to face your father, but you couldn’t read his expression, not with the surge of fear that had taken over your brain.
That moment seemed to last forever - you, staring at him, searching the line of his brow or the curve of his mouth for any reaction. Him, staring back at you…
“Are you okay?” he asked.
You blinked, taking a second to comprehend his words, working through the tension. “Uh, yes?”
“Has anyone tried to hurt you?” Your dad’s eyes shifted to gaze down your arms to your knuckles.
“What- no! Of course not.” You shifted in your seat and Hotch’s eyes came back to your face. “Dad, didn’t you hear what I just told you?”
“Yes,” he said. “I need to know that nobody has hurt you.” He paused. “The world isn’t always nice to people who don’t fit their ideals. You have to promise that you’ll call me if you ever feel like you’re in danger.”
And that was that - your father’s version of I love you so much:
I would die before I ever let someone hurt you simply for being you.
“I promise, dad,” you said, holding back tears, though a few must have slipped down your cheeks because he raised a gentle hand to wipe them away. “So you don’t- you aren’t-”
He shook his head. “I care that you’re happy, and that you’re safe.”
“I’m happy, dad,” you said, a genuine smile tugging at your lips. “And I’m safe.”
He wrapped a gentle arm around your shoulder and pulled you into a hug; the place you would always feel and be the most secure in the world.
“I love you,” you told him quietly.
“I love you too,” he whispered. “So much.”

Fluent Freshman - Part 14
PREVIOUS
When Andrew came out of his bedroom to grab a second Allen wrench (he’s working on the frame of the dresser while Neil builds the drawers) he finds quite a few things to irritate him.
1st was the sound of his brother and his cousin arguing loudly. Andrew had been pretty clear that they needed to be quiet that morning but following Andrew’s clearly given guidelines was NEVER either of their strong suits.
2nd was the fact that there was a smell in the air that Andrew was unsure of. It wasn’t a bad smell. It didn’t smell like Nicky had left some component of the breakfast FF had bought to burn. Andrew sniffed the air again and…..lavender? It wasn’t really a smell that existed in the house of three college student boys.
3rd and most irritating was the fact that FF was not where Andrew had left him four hours ago on the couch. Again, Andrew had been pretty clear to both Nicky and Aaron that FF was to be left ALONE. FF hadn’t been able to go to sleep until Andrew had promised that nothing would happen to him while he slept.
He moves towards the kitchen table where Nicky and Aaron are eating some of the sour patch kids that FF had brought back as they argued, “He can’t be serious that Kate and I gross him out more than Andrew and Neil! I’ve seen how fast he walks away when they start getting gross.” He hears Aaron say.
“Aaron I have watched Smithy climb out a second story window because you and Katelyn started making out and he’d have to walk closer to you to go out the door.” Nicky returns. “I think you made him mad when you implied he was grossed out by Andrew and Neil. This is why I get spoon privileges and maybe, if Smithy is feeling forgiving, you can swipe your finger around the bowl.” he points at Aaron.
Andrew hangs back just out of sight.
He knows that FF does not like to be subjected to seeing PDA. A part of him feels…better at the confirmation that it really isn’t because him and Neil are both men. FF has seen them hold hands, kiss chastely, and lean on one another and been unbothered by that it was only when it started getting a little heated that  they’d realize that FF had left. FF never makes a scene about it, never scoffs in disgust or squeals in delight he just seems to see where it’s going and will leave if he doesn’t want to see it.
It’s nice.
“Well he’s probably mad at you for waking him up. Andrew said to leave him alone.” Aaron returns.
“He needs breakfast! He also has to take his ulcer meds at the same time so he had to wake up and eat something. He can go back to sleep after!” Nicky defends.
Andrew scowls. Ok. Nicky could live if that was the reason he woke FF up. Still, why the hell is FF in the kitchen and more importantly what bowl and spoon are Aaron and Nicky arguing over?
Andrew tunes his family’s argument out and heads to the kitchen to find FF putting a baking dish into their oven while incense burned on the counter (Andrew now realizes that was the thin box that had been in with the rest of the candy)
He sees the bowl and spoon that Nicky had mentioned and more importantly he can see the chocolate brownie batter on them. Andrew walks over to the bowl and picks it up. He wipes his finger along the inside and…
He closes his eyes for a moment to savor the flavor of the batter. He leans against the counter and his hand brushes against….a five hour energy bottle. Andrew knows he had thrown out the two he had found in FF’s bags before (Ulcer + exhaustion + FF = bad he didn’t need to be a math major like Neil to understand that math.)
Andrew shoves the bottle in his sweatshirt pocket as FF turns around and stares at him passively. FF’s eyebrow’s raise slightly but there’s no other reaction. Andrew considers that, perhaps, FF had wanted to lick the bowl.
He offers the spoon instead knowing it is the better prize but FF is the one who bought the ingredients and mixed together this amazing batter, so he gets first dibs.
“That wouldn’t be good for my stomach.” He declines and Andrew wonders if FF had taken his meds yet or, in his tired state, he’s forgotten to.
“When did you wake up?” Andrew asks.
“Hour ago.”
He should go back to sleep after he takes his meds but also knows that FF probably won’t go to sleep until the brownies are done.
“I’ll make the pie tomorrow.” FF says and Andrew blinks out of his thoughts.
Andrew decides to go get FF’s meds for him. He’ll make it clear to FF later that the guy doesn’t HAVE to keep making amazing desserts as a thanks for being invited to Columbia. If FF just so happens to WANT to keep making amazing desserts then Andrew isn’t going to be the person that stops him.
He shoves the spoon in his mouth and heads out to go find Smith’s bag and his meds.
Aaron and Nicky see him and both let out outraged noises as their quarry had been stolen.
Andrew ignores them and gets to the bag by the couch.
Who the fuck just has 14 bottles of five hour energy sitting in their bag??
***
When Andrew handed FF his ulcer meds he could admit to feeling grateful even if Andrew had obviously gone through his bag to grab it. He swallows it dry because Andrew is standing by the sink and he knows that until Andrew eats a brownie he is not in a position to ask for favors big or small.
(He learned his lesson from that one time with Captain Neil. If he wants to do anything related to Russian he has to be in the safety of his lofted bed under the cover of night and the cover of his…covers while he reads via flashlight. He will not be caught so flat footed again! These are all necessary precautions!)
Andrew seems to very much want for FF to be in prime condition for the hunt. Part of him wonders if he’ll be released amongst other game animals and FF had never felt more jealous of the turkey who got pardoned by the president the day before. Why does that stupid bird get all the luck? Where’s his presidential pardon?
That grateful feeling evaporates into a dust cloud as Andrew lifts a plastic bag, “Stop drinking these.” Andrew hisses, “They’re going to make your ulcer worse.” He points at FF.
“I need them.” He says.
“For what?”
“Five hours of energy at a time.”
“Pull out the brownies and go back to sleep Smith.”
“They still have 10 minutes.”
“Then I’ll pull them out in 10 minutes.”
“There’s a final step that I have to do once they’re fresh out of the oven.”
“What is it.”
“Smith Family Baking secret. I don’t make the rules.” FF gestures towards where the incense continues to burn, “Great Gran’s recipe and methods cannot be shared with non-blood relatives. My mom wasn’t even let in on the secret.”
Thank god
Andrew glowers at him.
Oh God
“It’ll be just 20 more minutes.”
Andrew’s eyes narrow at him.
“They’ll be worth it.” He pleads.
Andrew rolls his eyes.
“Go to sleep when they’re done. Take Nicky’s room.” Andrew commands.
“Take Nicky’s what?” Nicky leans into the kitchen.
“Smith is going to go back to sleep on your bed.”
“Yeah you look like shit Smithy. Don’t worry, unlike Neil and Andrew’s bed mine is all safe.”
Nicky zips out of the kitchen with Andrew hot on his heels. Nicky really is a good friend.
He performs the sacred rites necessary upon the brownies when they come out of the oven and takes a small corner piece to taste test and -
He closes his eyes and clasps his hands together in prayer.
‘Thank you Great Gran.’ He prays earnestly.
‘Remember to wash behind your ears’ he thinks he hears a whisper of grandmotherly advice in return.
That was probably normal.
He extinguishes the incense.
He cuts up the brownies, finds a decently sized plate, and sets the brownies out on the counter before he starts to work on doing the dishes. Yeah Yeah he could have been cleaning while he waited for the brownies to cook! That’s what you always do right? Clean as you go?
Well have you ever been baking brownies that might be the difference between life and death? No? Well then FF is just going to have to stop you right there because he had the oven light on and his eyes GLUED to these fudgey squares.
Who knows what the cousins’ oven would do? He doesn’t know this oven. He and this oven are taking their first whirl together and it could decide to turn on him at any time. They don’t have the brotherhood that he and the oven at his Gran’s house have built over the years! This oven could be one of those ones that maintain their temperature by turning on the broiler! He felt like he could never again recklessly trust an oven after he tried to make crescent rolls in the Viking Oven at his step father’s house and had gotten them back blackened by the broiler.
That oven had been the SINGLE thing he had been excited about during the kitchen remodel which means naturally it was the thing that had betrayed him.
He lets himself think of all the ways he hates the Viking brand as he finishes the dishes and puts everything back to where they belong.
He walks out of the kitchen with the platter of brownies and sets them down on the table where Aaron and Nicky are sat. “Oh my god they smell amazing.” Nicky says and immediately his hand is shooting towards the plate and picking up a corner piece.
FF valiantly resists the urge to slap his and Aaron’s hands away. He needs these to compel Andrew into letting him live.
“Oh wow, those do smell good.” He hears Captain Neil’s voice and when FF turns around Captain Neil and Andrew are both there. It is only in that moment that he realizes that he should have bought some vanilla ice cream to go with these.
Andrew’s love of ice cream was not unknown, probably even infamous. He was the man who, during the summer training, had been so possessive over the soft serve machine in the cafeteria that anyone who wanted any had to ask Captain Neil to get them a bowl or risk being threatened.
He starts towards the door. At this point Target probably isn’t even that bad, probably just some irate people who didn’t come with the rush and are mad they missed out, maybe some officers talking to witnesses on who threw cast the first Wii remote, and workers who will hate him marginally less (unless he gets the same check out person and they remember him (unlikely))
His progress is arrested by a hand grabbing his hoodie.
“Where are you going?”
“I forgot Ice Cream.” And he could get a five hour energy to slam on the way back home.
He then finds himself being pulled down an unfamiliar hallway.
Ah, the anticipation had been killing him more than the fear of his demise. His brownies had not contained the requisite amount of grandmotherly love to save him he had been relying on extract (Great Gran’s spirit guiding his hands) instead of organic (he does not have grandchildren or children for that matter)
Maybe ice cream would have been the deciding factor? He’ll never know.
He closes his eyes and lets himself be dragged. He’s too tired to fight.
A door opens, and he finds himself sat on a bed.
Weird.
“You are falling asleep standing up. Go back to sleep. I’ll leave you at Eden’s if you fall asleep in the booth.” Andrew threatens.
What.
FF knows about Eden’s.
He has heard about it from Nicky trying to get him to agree to go but he’s pretty sure it’d be like introducing an Amazon rainforest frog to the Sahara desert in terms of survivability for him.
“We’re going to Eden’s tonight?” He manages to ask.
Andrew raises an eyebrow at him but answers, “Yes.”
“I’m not really interested in clubs. I don’t drink out in public or dance.”
“Neither does Neil. I just drink. We can stay in the booth.”
“I don’t want to interrupt your time with Captain Neil.”
“It’s fine, neither of us hate spending time with you.”
“I don’t have clothes for a place like that.”
“Nicky grabbed some for you. You’re coming tonight. Go to sleep.”
With that Andrew pulls Nicky’s curtains close, shuts off the light, and closes the door.
FF, always very much like a bird when placed into a suddenly dark environment, starts to feel some of the  exceptional sleepiness that he’d been pushing off through sheer manic desperation to earn another day of life.
He lays down in Nicky’s bed and is tired enough that he can ignore the sheer amount of body glitter on the sheets (does Nicky excrete it like sweat??) and starts to let himself drift off to sleep.
Eden’s might be something completely out of his wheelhouse but-
A conversation with Nicky from when he’d been trying to get FF to go comes into his mind and he sits straight up in bed as Nicky’s words roll around in his head like stale hotdogs at a gas station.
“Eden’s is cool, even though there’s some sick shit in the basement.”
Eden’s is a Secondary Location with a BASEMENT.

Not exactly a request but JUST IMAGINE FAMILY PICS IN A PRETTY PARK/FIELD/ANYWHERE… Aaron and his daughter in matching outfits *BLUBBERS*
ADORABLE (& my two fav things fall AND girl dad!aaron <333333333)
the night before - you lay out all the outfits <3333 you went with a cute beige theme - dresses for you and baby girl, jack is wearing a cute matching flannel or something, and then a beige tie for aaron 😭 you also make sure to lay out socks (omg frilly socks for baby girl 😭😭😭), matching shoes, anything necessary - you even pack some back-up clothes if disaster happens to strike. meanwhile, aaron has the task of ironing 🥹🫶🏻 making sure no wrinkles are to be SEEN, and then hanging up all the outfits all neat and orderly on the shower rod in your shared bathroom - away from any little hands that could possibly re-wrinkle them <3
the next day, hehe aaron gets the kiddos dressed once he's all ready to go (he got ready first so he could help and supervise, making sure no one gets messy once they're done getting ready) - getting his lil princess into her dress, putting her lil shoes on (although once in the car, she will pry them off). helping jack with his tie and telling him step-by-step how to do it, he's had a ton of practice after all 🥰
hehe after double checking aaron's handiwork and making sure baby girl and jackers look absolutely PERFECT (which they do of course) you get to work on their hair - curling baby girl's hair (she doesn't have too much just yet😭🫶🏻) and putting a bow in, combing jack's hair and even putting a touch of hairspray in so it stays - hehe he made the cutest scrunched up face as you sprayed it LOL, and then asks why his hair feels so rough 😭. and ughhhhh as you get yourself ready, aaron finds you in the bathroom and is just in awe 🥹 and repeatedly tells you how beautiful you look <33333 and instead of keeping it in, he voices his thoughts out loud - how in the world did he get so lucky??????? hehe he even gets a bitttt handsy 🤭 grabbing your waist and giving you kisses <333333 and you have to shoo him away because 1.) he's being distracting 2.) he will make all of you late and 3.) he's supposed to be watching the kids 🫵🏻
and once you get to the field where the pictures are, your daughter is NOT in the mood to take pictures and be smiley 😭 so in order to avoid a full-on tantrum or meltdown, aaron tries to distract her as you and jack are taking some pictures - finding flowers or a leaf for her to hold, showing her alllll the fall colors in the leaves, he grabbed her a lil snack from the bag you packed to lighten her mood - in some of the pictures she's clutching onto a pack of fruit snacks, or it's tucked away secretly in aaron's pants pocket. for her solo pictures, pictures with jack, or with you - aaron's behind the camera making faces, using his lil baby voice to get her smiley grin out🥰 and in her pictures with aaron, hehe jack is the one getting her to laugh 🥹 which is SO easy because baby girl loves her big brother so so so much and giggles at everything he does <33333333 and once it's time for the FULL family pictures, baby girl could not be happier <3333333
but the pictures come out PERFECTLY <333333 AH it's easily going to be your christmas card for the year, the pictures are framed in your house, in aaron's office, he has a small one in his wallet at all times <3333333 and the others in the team INSIST on having copies too 🥹 penelope especially gushes over them, always commenting on just how perfect the hotchner family is <33333333

Smoking it away: Part Two
18+
Part One Down Below.
Tumblr media
Warnings: drugs, rehab, mean reader.
Summary: Your family, Your Dad, Auntie Rio and Uncle Jeff stage a quick intervention, afraid for your saftey, they ship you odd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh fuck me
The door open's to reveals Rio, Your Dad and Miles.
Your shushed into the house as Jeff locks in behind you. Your Dad walks over to you, looming over above you looking over his face you can see looks extremly tired and dressed in sweats.
Miles: "Before we start, I just want you to know, we aren't mad and we love you"
Already, i know I'm fucked.
Aaron: "Give me the phone"
Y/N:" Excuse me?"
Aaron: "Your phone, give it to me"
Y/N:"...I don't have it?" What a shit lie Y/N
Aaron rasied an eyebrow at you, stepping closer while Jeff stalks from behind, you are now trapped between both your uncle and father, shrinking between them as they are so tall.
Jeff: "If you don't have it on you, you won't mind a pat down?"
Y/N: "Are you serious?" you ask flinching away.
Aaron: "sound's good to me"
Y/N: "what the fuck?"
Rio snaps her finger to get your attention from the coach.
Rio: "oi, don't swear in my house"
Jeff pulled you back by your shoulder as you tensed.
Y/N: "Okay! Jesus, here!" You quickly shove your phone into your Dad's hand, still Jeff had his hand on your shoulder, pushing you down into a chair that was locked in by the sofa, now you were truly in thier grasp, with Rio staring you down and Miles meekly looking at the floor, Aaron sat infont of you while Jeff to your left, he could see your eyes scan the house you had been in so many time's before, looking for a way out.
Aaron: "What's the password?"
...
Aaron: "I know you heard me what's the password"
Y/N: "77902"
He logs onto your phone and begins to scrolls, though your photos, your messages and Email, and know scrolling through your call records, you know what he's looking for.
He's looking for his contact...
Jeff Put his hand again on your shoulder.
Jeff: "How about you and Miles go hang out in his room"
Though it was framed as a question it was an order, so you and Miles awkwadrly shifted to his room, you felt strange leaving your phone alone with your Dad combing though it, but you did'nt want to create more problems.
Miles ushered you into his room where he sat on his bed, and you awkwardly stood in the corner.
Miles: "You know you can sit right?"
Y/N: "Actually, I'd rather stand"
Miles:" I know your'e mad at me for telling on you but honestly, I'm glad I did"
Y/N: "Don't brag about being untrsutworthy Miles"
Miles: "Well maybe you should be more honest"
You roll your eyes at him, while you both are silent you can hear the chatter in the living room between your Dad, Auntie Rio, and Uncle Jeff, you and Miles press your ears against the walls.
On the other side of that door, your family were debating your fate, wether to scare you straight by having Jeff arrest you, sending off to a proper rehab, or keeping you home under servillence.
All sounded terrible.
Aaron was still scrolling though your phone, skimming over text converstaions to see if he found something fishy, going through all your photos, including your secret gallery, which basically menat you were 1000000% fucked.
Photos of you smoking, drinking, snorting at parties he did't know you had gone too, with people he didn't know, looking over all these clips made him wince, clearly it was worse than he thought, if you were this able and willing to lie to him so consisntely and on such a large scale, he simply couldn't trust you anymore.
Clicking off from your phone and pocketing it he turned to his brother, and sister in law.
Aaron: "I Don't know how she's been sneaking this round me so damm long, how did I not see this"
Rio: "You musn't blame yourself Aaron, teenagers can be sneaky"
Jeff: "you were doing some shady stuff when you were her age"
Aaron: "I wasn't snorting anything! I wasn't lying to everyone in my life about where I was, who I was doing it with! I wasn't hiding drugs under the damm floor boards"
He rubs his face over, what the hell is he going to do?
Jeff: "We could do home servalince, make sure she stays clean?"
Rio: "That's not sustiable, we all have work and Miles has school there won't be anyone who to watch her"
Jeff nodded in agreement.
Jeff: "We could send her to a rehab
Rio: "Would that be covered in your insurance Aaron?"
Aaron looked down in defeat, he didn't want too send you away to rehab, all alone, but what choice did he have? None of them really wanted you whisked away to rehab, where they couldn't see you, sourrounded by other addicts with limited contact, what he really wanted to do was huddle you away in the house, keep you too himself and put bars on your windows, but he knew that wasn't sustaibable.
Aaron: " Yeah,It should cover it"
Rio: "I know a good place, I'll call them see if they have a bed free" She said softly before taking herself into her bedroom for the private call.
Aaron had his head in his hands, how did he miss the signs? was he ignoring them? looking back he could see it, how you would start massive fashion projects late at night, enthused about your new enterprise, spending all your money at once, coming into his room at 3 am asking him if he wants to watch Barbie with you, or asking to him to hold you like he used to when you were child, asking him to do your hair and baking at 2 am, all where strange but he just thought it was teenage shenagaings, not class A's.
And it made him so happy to be close to you again, for you to want to hang out, even if it was just watching a film together or helping you cut fabric for you new dress line, just to connect again like you were when you were young.
Maybe he did know, he just didn't want to accept it wasn't you, it was what ever you were taking.
Jeff could see he was struggling, but didn't know how to console him, so he just sat next to him and rubbed his back as Aaron tried not to break down.
Over hearing all this, how they were about to ship you off made you think maybe you'd prefer being arrested, you sank down your back down Mile's room door before sitting on the ground, slumped, it wasn't supposed to go this way, you're Dad was none the wiser, you were using safley, or as safley as anyone could and finally you were feeling true joy and peace, the kinda joy people like Miles felt natrually all the time, you no longer left out in really feeling.
You were eyeing the window, yeah you would drop 3 floors down and maybe you would break your legs or worse but then you wouldn't have to go rehab.
Miles sat next too you, back against the door, he tries to put his hand on your shoulder but you immedinaly flinch away.
Y/N: "Don't you ever touch me""
Miles: "Jesus sorry, calm down"
You glared at him though your eye lashes.
Y/N: "You have destroyed my life" You whisper yelled.
Miles: "Nah, you did that yourself"
Y/N: "Excuse me?"
Miles: "You told me you were smoking, if that were true your Dad would not be on your ass, maybe just ground you for a bit and get my Dad lecture you, not pose a whole family intervention and a send off to rehab"
Y/N: "If they do actually send me away, I will never fucking talk to you again"
Miles rolled his eyes with such a silly threat.
Meanwhile, back in the living room Rio came out her room having had gotten of the phone with the rehab.
Rio: "They'll have a bed later today, around 15:30"
Aaron: "Is it a good place?"
Rio: "Yes, it dose good work. It's a 6 week program and have a low repeat percenatge so I think it'll be good for her"
6 weeks, 6 whole weeks you'd be away and out the house where he couldn't see you.
Aaron: "You sure?"
Rio: "Yeah"
Aaron took a deep breath, accpeting this drastic change in events, accpeting that he would have you taken out his hands and put away in some other place with people he didn't know taking you, his only child and fixing you up.
Rio: "It's far out Brooklyn, so if you want the bed in time, I would go now"
Aaron brushed himself down before heading for Mile's room, you could hear him apparoch the door, you could recgonise his foots steps, you had trainded yourself to reconsie them for when you would use in your room to avoid being caught.
You scrambed away from the door, standing by Miles as the door knob turned.
Aaron: "Alright Baby, Let's go"
Defeated you followed him through the living room and out the door, Mile's is gestured to follow you by Rio, tagging along on your left, with Aaron on your right, trapping you again, you feel it's intetion of keeping you trapped so you couldn't pull a fast one.
Ushering you into the car, Mile's watched you get in the back of the car, then got in next to you sitting on the other side of the verchiel.
As you began to drive, your Dad kept looking back at you through the rear view mirror, exchaning eye contact with Miles.
Aaron: "So we uh, were going home to get you a bag and then...then we'll take you to that rehab place"
Already you could feel yourself tense, holding onto your joggers, breathing deeper and quicker, like you were getting ready to run.
oh fuck
Y/N: "I don't want to go"
Aaron:" You don't have a choice"
Y/N:" I am 17 years old you can't just shuttle me away"
Aaron: "you are 17 years old, I am your God damm father and you are going to rehab"
Y/N: "You are blowing this out of proportion"
Aaron: "Am I? How? How am I blowing this out proportion"
Y/N:" I am not an addict, I'm not reliant on anything, Iv'e never done injectables-"
Aaron: " 'Never done Injectables' Is the bar really that low for you?"
Y/N: "Youre wasting you damm money I don't need to go to a fucking rehab! Rehab is where you go when you overdose"
Miles: "so we just supposed to wait till you overdose, huh?"
He mutter's to himself, his head leaning on the window.
Y/N: "I am 17, it's normal to expierment with drugs!"
Aaron: "Miles?"
Miles: "Yeah?"
Aaron: "You smoking weed?"
Miles: "No"
Aaron: " You snorting coke?"
Miles: "Hell no"
Aaron: "You secret drinking?"
Miles: "Nope"
Aaron: " So how is it Miles is your age and not doing any of the same shit?"
Y/N: " Dad I...I just want to have fun"
Aaron: " You could do litreally anything and you choose hard drugs"
Y/N:" I KNOW you were smoking weed at my age"
Aaron: "Yeah I was smoking weed and it fucked me up, but you are 17 snorting shit"
You roll your eyes, sinking into your seat.
Aaron: "If Mile's hadn't told me, you would have kept going and going until you lost your grip and died"
Y/N: "It is not that fucking deep"
Miles: "Y/N, were just scared for you"
Y/N: "Oh fuck right off Miles"
Aaron: "Ay, Don't talk to him that way"
Y/N: "He snitched on me, i don't have to be nice"
Miles: "You told me it was weed and vodka, not fucking pills and shit"
Y/N: "So you snitched on me, for weed and Vodka?"
Miles: "But It wasn't just weed and Vodka!"
Y/N: "I knew I should have never told you, I shouldn't have known you would just cause a big thing of it, you know Miles, the whole reason i stared disstacing myself from you is beacuse how fucking over bearing and demanding you are"
Miles: "What?"
Aaron: "Okay Y/N shut up"
As he pulled up at a red light you and Miles looked out in opposite directions out each window, when you noticed the child locks weren't on.
You rest your hand over the door handle, waiting for one of them to notice, but they don't.
Your breath increases, you're ready to run.
You Open the car door, leaning out of it as your dad screams for you to sit down, your head and shoulders are out the door.
You think your'e out.
Until you feel the ends of your hair being pulled back and your'e arm grabbed by Mile's.
He pull's you in with great force as you begin to thrash.
Y/N: "get the fuck off me!"
Aaron: "Miles, Miles the door!" He yells.
While Miles is holding you down, as you try despratley to kick and cry, he slides himself over the car seats and slams the door shut.
You sat up, pushing Miles away by his shoulders, he takes your hands and shoves them down onto the car seat, he scrambles on top of you and keeps you in place, his left forearm pressed over your collarbone, imobileizing you.
Y/N: "Get THE FUCK OFF ME!" You scream, on lookers think this is a kidnapping, Miles looks over at his Uncle.
Aaron: "Hold her there"
Miles Looks down at you crying, hyperventializing trying despretaly trying to wriggle away.
Miles: "Calm the fuck down"
Y/N: "Get the fuck off me you son of a bitch!"
You tried to raise your head to get him off you, but his press tough.
Miles: "Stop fucking moving"
Y/N: " I Hate you" You whipser up at him.
Minutes later, after your crying and screaming had subsided, he got off you sitting across from you again as the car pulled up outside you're building.
Aaron: "Imma go pack you a bag, stay here"
The door open and closes as Aaron leaves to go pack you a bag.
Y/N: "I wanna step out for a sec, strech my legs"
Miles: "How do I know you're not going to try and run off again, hmm?"
YN: "Okay, whatever Miles"
...
...
...
Y/N: "Why are you here Miles?"
Miles: "What do you mean?"
Y/N: "You didn't have to be here right now, in this car involing yourself in something that isn't you're buisness"
Miles: "My buinesse? Y/N You are my Family it is my buinesse"
Y/N rolled her eyes out the window, Mile's kept looking over at the handle, just waiting for you to make a move.
About 10 minutes later, you Dad came back with a suit case, putting it in the boot of the car, he plopped himself back in the drivers seat.
Aaron: "Miles, You still wanna ride with us?"
Miles: "...Yeah"
You drove for about two hours, and it was painfully silent, neither you or Miles made eye contact, both just staring out the window. Your Dad would occesianlly look over at you through the rear view mirror.
Once you eventually pulled up on the place, in an isolated field with only the one road leading you out, you exit the car to face the bulilding.
it looks like a prison, a tall, massive grey builiding with many windows, all barred. Aaron got your bag from the boot and handed it to you to carry.
Miles caught you again, looking over your souroudings as if for an out, he exchanged you a warning look and stalked up uncomfortley close to you, while your Dad guided you in the waiting area.
You sat in the waiting area with Mile's, beginning to panic. it really began to set in. They're going to lave you here, in this place with stranges, alone.
And the worst part was, you wouldn't have the company of any drugs, no weed no alcohol, just you.
Twiddling your hands nervoulsy, Miles obeserved you rubbing your hands together and felt the need comfort you, but knew right now, you really didn't feel like talking to him.
While Aaron checked you inn, he kept glancing over at you, wondering, is this a mistake? could he just keep you sober at home?
He hadn't handed you over yet, he could just drive take off back home, but the desk lady see's this seconding guessing in his eyes as he gazes at you. She places her hand on his and mutters "It's an excellent program".
This dose nothing to sooth him, but he dose sign off the paper work, handing you over to this faceless place for a whole month, did he really want to do this? No but though he wanted you home, he knew ratinally, it was best letting you here.
As your Dad timidly signs off your paper work you see two men approach through the glass walls in all white, you feel like running but know Miles could just drag you back, you don't want to go, you are not an addict, what is happening.
Before they reach the fresh hold of the waiting room, you Dad kneels in front of you while sitting in the waiting chair.
Aaron: "Listen baby, I'm gonna drop you here for a bit, and these people are gonna help you sort yourself out kay?"
You didn't answer, you just stared out at the approching men.
Clutching your bag, as your Dad watches helpless, these two men guide you out the waiting area, their hands on your shoulders.
You take one last look at your Dad and cousin, looking right into Miles's his eyes before mouthing to him, 'I hate you'...
They watched as you were slinked off futher and futher away until you dissaprear down the hall...

Hotch x reader - quality time
Tumblr media
hiya lovely! I hope your doing well just wondering if at all possible could i request a sorta crossover fic aaron hotchner x reader where reader is Jake Peralta's younger sister and the team are in Brooklyn working on a case and the reader uses this as an opportunity to introduce her boyfriend to her brother? if its no trouble. also hope you have a lovely day - Anon💜
The moment you got the case you were excited to be working with the NYPD, especially when you found out you would be in the 99th precinct.
“Hey if it’s alright can I stay for a little after the case?”
Hotch turned around and looked at you as he set his book down on the table and smiled at you.
“Sure, you’ve got some time we’ve been trying to get you to use for months.” He laughed.
You grinned for ear to ear and lightly kicked him from under the table as he rolled his eyes at you.
“Why do you want to stay anyways? You’ve been pretty excited about this whole thing, I know you’re usually excited to jump into field duty but this is different.”
You wondered if you should tell him about the real reason you wanted to go to the city so much.
You thought about this for a moment before shaking your head, grinning a little.
“Nah, you’ll just have to wait.”
Hotch got up, rolling his eyes again he grabbed both your cups and kissed the top of your head as he walked away.
You were going to see your brother, and you were going to get the chance work with him for the first time.
You wondered if he knew that your team were getting called in or not, he could be oblivious at the best of time and never really paid attention in his morning briefs.
As you made your way into the precinct and into the bullpen, you were immediately pulled into a bone crushing hug.
“Hey Charles.” You laughed.
Patting his back, you pulled away and stepped back.
“The two Peralta’s back again!” He cheered.
Everyone turned around and you smiled, waving at them as they all walked over to greet you.
After greeting them all you were rushed away to begin with the case.
You hadn’t seen Jake the entire case, and from what you were told by Amy and Charles, he had been suspended because he was being framed.
It made you even more determined to solve this and prove everyone wrong because you knew it wasn’t him.
Finally everything was solved, and you stood with both teams as Holt gave to your brother his gun and badge back, only have have Jake slam them back on the desk.
“I don’t need your pity or your job!” He yelled.
“Jake!”
Your brother turned to face you and smiled a little as he took them back.
“You still need to file the correct paperwork.” Holt said.
“Can’t you do it?” Jake whined.
“Don’t be an idiot, you’ve got to do it if you want to be reinstated moron.”
Jake grinned at you and walked over, crushing you in a hug.
“Thanks.” He whispered.
Hugging him back, you smiled and let out a small breath.
“Anytime Jako.” You mused.
Pulling away, you gestured for him to follow you, and did the same with Hotch and both men followed you into an empty interrogation room.
You sat on the table and Hotch stood next to you while Jake stood in front of you.
“Jake, I want you to meet Aaron Hotchner, my boyfriend. Aaron, this is Jake, my brother.”
Both men shook hands before Jake pulled away and crossed his arms.
“What’s your intentions with my sister Hotchner?”
Hotch smiled a little, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“To love her for the rest of our lives.”
“Noice noice, cool, cool.” Jake nodded.
He looked at you, and seeing your smile he decided to drop the big brother act.
He had never seen you smile so happy, not since you were kids and he would bring you your favourite candy when you were upset.
“Are you staying?” Jake asked.
You nodded your head, swinging your legs back and forth.
“Both of you?”
“I actually didn’t think about that, do you want to stay?” You asked.
“Well, I can ask JJ to watch Jack for a few days when everyone gets back.” He mused.
He thought for a moment before he nodded his head and smiled at you, turning to Jake.
“If you don’t mind I’ll stay too. I’d like to get to know you some more, I’ve heard quite a bit about you.”
“Cool, cool, cool. I’ll talk to Amy. Laters!”
With that Jake ran away and you laughed, shaking your head at him as you took Hotch’s hand and followed him out back to the bullpen.
You couldn’t wait to spend some quality time with your brother and your boyfriend without having to worry about work

arachnophobia
genre: horror-ish pairings: none summary: playing with the idea of miles and miles g's fates being inextricably linked to each other. also spidey senses but make it a little weird wc: 2,072 warnings: spiders (like one spider), canon deaths, brief mention of blood...and translated Spanish for like two sentences (shout out to SpanishDict) A/N: ngl...this didn't turn out to be as scary as I originally envisioned it. but I still hope you enjoy it anyway! pls feel free to reblog and leave ur reactions in the tags/comments if you do <3
The floor. The floor was on the ceiling, though nothing was falling.
Miles blinked as his eyes adjusted to the darkness of his bedroom. It would’ve been pitch-black if not for the street lamps and traffic lights providing a dim light source.
With careful steps, he moved to where his bed seemed to hang just above him, and let himself fall back onto the mattress. Again.
The sleepwalking began a year ago.
Miles had just come home from school, and entered the bathroom to wash his face. No sooner had he turned on the faucet, he looked into the mirror and saw that his right eye was a coppery green. Stranger still, when Miles felt himself furrow his brows in confusion, his reflection’s eyes widened in surprise instead. That’s when he felt it on his hand.
A gangly, medium-sized spider whose legs took up about the width of his palm. The thing bit him just before he could slap it, letting its body fall limply to the tiled bathroom floor.
When Miles looked up again, both of his eyes were brown.
Not long after, Aaron Davis was found dead by his brother in a dark alleyway. No one had been charged yet for the murder - at least, no one who could be charged. The news reports just seemed relieved that another “criminal” was off the streets. It made Miles’ blood boil.
After the funeral, he rushed to the bathroom to escape the litany of “I’m sorry”s and whispers of “Jefferson’s boy” so as to not lose his mind before the day’s end. His eyes were bloodshot, still stinging with tears that he had tried so hard to hold back in front of his parents. Uncle Aaron would’ve wanted him to tough it out, right?
Heaving in front of the dirty mirror, Miles blinked, and the sight before him made his blood run cold. His reflection’s right eye was green again, and this time, a pair of cornrows seemed to brush his shoulders, framing a tired and gaunt-looking face.
His face. And he looked angry.
“What the fuck…?” Miles muttered to himself as he held his own gaze.
“I should be asking the same thing,” his reflection replied in a muted, raspy voice, making Miles jump.“You did this, didn’t you?”
“Did-did what? I didn’t–”
“You killed him. I can feel it. Everytime you get hurt, every time you cry, your fear, your guilt, all of it–I can fucking feel it!”
Miles said nothing as his not-a-reflection began to tear up.
It was technically his fault, wasn’t it? He ran to Aaron’s apartment for help, like a coward. It all went to shit after the fact. He didn’t dare ask about the autopsy results; Miles already knew what they would say.
He’d watched the bullet blow a hole in his uncle’s chest.
“Yeah, you look guilty as hell right now,” said the not-a-reflection, shakily. “You got bit by something, right?”
Miles slowly began to back away from the mirror.
“H-how did you–”
The other Miles chuckled mirthlessly. “Felt a prick on my hand.”
“Y’know, I wonder…” he mused, venom seeping into his voice, “if it works the other way around.”
Miles squeezed his eyes shut.
“I’m dreaming. This is all a dream. You’re not real.”
His not-a-reflection smirked.
“We’ll see.”
After that day, Miles would begin to wander in the middle of the night, and end up standing in the hallway or in the kitchen. Sometimes he’d be woken up by his mother’s startled screaming, or realize that he’d gotten himself a glass of water.
…And that was when his newfound twin was feeling nice.
One night, Miles woke up with his father’s strong arms wrapped around him, pulling him back from where he seemed to have been perched on the edge of the roof, like a bird ready to spring into action. Or a spider.
It was now the first week of sophomore year.
Miles could hardly stay upright as he rose to make his bed. Between the blaring of his alarm and all the bustling in the kitchen, his eardrums felt like someone was taking a baseball bat to them and hitting several home runs.
He squinted, and saw that the door was opening behind him.
“Mijo–oh, you’re up already?”
“Yup. I’ll be down in a couple minutes.”
“Alright, see you then. Don’t drag your feet.”
Once Rio gently shut the door, Miles realized that he wasn’t supposed to see things that were behind him.
School turned out to be even more of a nightmare; the swarm of students passing by in the hallways felt like a million invisible strings tugging each way. He finally reached his seat in homeroom, dizzy and irate, when one particular string seemed to tug at him. Violently.
His head snapped up.
“You got a twin brother, Morales?” A girl from his cohort last year whispered behind him, soundly oddly excited about the possibility.
“A new student will be joining us this week,” the teacher in charge of homeroom announced. As she read off of the attendance sheet, her brows furrowed. The woman even adjusted her glasses to do a double take. Miles knew exactly what for.
“That’s funny. We have another Miles Morales sitting right over there!”
The boy standing to her left was already staring across the room, directly at Miles. He felt his body temperature drop rapidly the longer he maintained eye contact with the other’s blank stare, so he looked away.
Didn’t help much. Miles could still sense where he was going. He sensed a small shift in the light at the side of his head–not peripheral vision, but something more akin to the aura that surrounds your eyes when you get a migraine–moving to the back of the classroom.
This ‘twin’ started calling himself ‘Miles G.’ as the week went on, to preemptively avoid any inevitable confusion as his new teachers got to know him. There was never a point where he didn’t need to; the two Miles had all of their classes together, all except for fifth period.
Miles G. tapped his pen on the desk impatiently as the professor explained the process of chemical bonding. He frowned when he noticed his leg bouncing on its own. It seemed that Miles was equally bored sitting in AP Literature.
That was where their similarities ended, though.
Friday afternoon, Miles was halfway through his daily school-issued PB&J when a painful jolt in his solar plexus nearly made him vomit it back up. The boy doubled over in his seat with a pained cry, and felt a warm liquid running from his nose. He looked down to discover that his uniform blazer was stained with little red dots.
“I’m telling you, I had nothing to do with it,” Miles explained frantically to the school counselor.
The middle aged woman looked unconvinced, hands folded neatly on the desk in front of her.
“Then can you explain why both of your noses are bleeding?”
“He wasn’t there with me. I don’t jump people,” Miles G. chimed in, earning a glare from his counterpart sitting next to him. “What? I’m tryna help you.”
The counselor sighed. “Well, your teachers told me that they only saw one of you at the fight,” she turned to Miles. “So it seems like you’re off the hook. For now. You can go to class.”
The woman waved her hand dismissively as Miles shot up from his seat and stalked out of the small office and into the now-empty hallway.
The encounter in the mirror at Uncle Aaron’s funeral suddenly came back to him:
“You killed him. I can feel it. Everytime you get hurt, every time you cry, your fear, your guilt, all of it–I can fucking feel it!”
Miles whipped around before the other could even say a word.
“Who the fuck are you?” he hissed.
Miles G. snorted. “You know who I am.”
“Why are you here, then? What’s your deal? Since you clearly exist.”
“You think it’s fair, Miles?”
Miles’ brows knit together in confusion.
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m asking,” Miles G. took a step closer, “if you think it’s fair. That you get to sit up here comfortable while you have blood on your hands.”
The other boy looked away.
“...No.”
He nodded curtly, then brushed past Miles to go to class. “I’m here to make things fair.”
A pit began to form in Miles’ stomach as he let the words linger.
Miles G. was nowhere to be found amongst the sea of students spilling into the hallway when the final bell rang.
“Yo Miles, where’s your evil twin at?” asked Jason, current captain of the basketball team. “He’s supposed to hoop with us today.”
Miles shrugged. “I ain’t keepin’ tabs on him.”
The captain joked, “You’d better start. He could be outside framing you for murder right now!”
The group of boys surrounding him erupted into laughter as they all turned to leave. Miles couldn’t laugh; it was a little too close to the truth.
“I’m here to make things fair.”
‘Fair’. ‘Fair’ meant leveling the playing field, evening out the score.
…Oh no.
With his heart in his throat, he threw on his jacket and bolted out of the building as fast as his long legs could carry him.
“I don’t know, Jeff, he’s just been…off, lately.”
Rio leaned her head on her husband’s shoulder. She was hardly paying any attention to the news flashing across the television.
“More than usual?” Jefferson laughed, earning him a smack on the shoulder.
“I’m being serious. He looks dead in the eyes, like he’s not getting any sleep. I’m just worried after what happened in the summer. Scared me half to death, that boy.”
He nodded solemnly.
“I still don’t know how he managed to even find the roof with his eyes closed.”
“You think we should still take him to the doctor’s, just in case?”
“Maybe,” Jefferson looked deep in thought. “Y’know, that reminds me: A week before school started, I was in the kitchen grabbing a mug from the cupboard. With my luck, of course it slipped right outta my hands–”
“It better not have been my good mug.”
“That’s besides the point, honey. Anyway, Miles is standing right next to me, and he catches it the moment I drop it!”
Rio’s eyes narrowed. “What’s special about that?”
“He wasn’t even looking in my direction.”
“Hm. Now that I think about it, sometimes he does this weird thing where he turns around and says ‘hi’ to me–”
“--Before you even enter the room!”
“Exactly! It creeps me out, sometimes. I thought I was going crazy.”
“At least he’ll never get robbed.”
The sound of the doorbell interrupted their conversation.
“Speak of the devil,” Rio said as she rose from the sofa. “I’ll get it.”
Her son stood in the door frame, his small suitcase trailing behind him as he waved and began to haul it up the steps.
She took it from him before pulling him into a warm hug.
“Hola, Mami.”
Rio pulled back to get a good look at Miles’ face. She made a tsk sound at the newly-formed bags under his eyes. The pimples were another story.
“¿Qué tal te fue en la escuela? You look tired.”
“Teníamos un montón de tareas,” he sighed. “The usual.”
“And you’d better be doing all of it. Now get in here, your father’s waiting in the living room.”
Miles kicked off his sneakers at the entrance while his mother set his luggage against the wall.
“Dad…?”
“Miles, my man! How’s it–oof!”
Jefferson could hardly get a word in before Miles went in for a second hug. He gave his son a pat on the back.
“Missed you too, buddy.”
Miles quickly pulled away with an awkward smile, opting to plop down onto the couch instead.
“I thought you didn’t watch the news anymore,” Rio teased as she sat down with him. “All that ‘negativity’.”
He laughed, “I’ll make an exception for tonight.”
“You hear that, Rio? We’re cool enough for him to hang out with us again,” Jeff remarked.
Miles was soon sandwiched between both of his parents, but it hardly felt cramped. He wouldn’t have it any other way. A comfortable silence fell over the three as their faces were illuminated by the soft glow from the TV. It was Miles who broke it again:
“How’s Uncle Aaron doing?”

"Important?" Matt echoes. "Are we going to talk about the fact that Andrew killed their mother? I thought she died in a car accident. That's what everyone's always said." "She did die in a car wreck," Neil says. "I said accident," Matt says, with emphasis. Neil gazes calmly back and says nothing else, so Matt asks, "How did you find out?" "Nicky told me months ago," Neil said. "Just like that," Matt said dubiously. "You've always known what he's capable of, but you said he's never given you a real reason to be afraid of him. What the hell are your parents into, if you can glide past murder like it's no big deal and get in Riko's face all the time?"
Neil shook his head and was saved by Renee's gentle, "Perhaps Neil trusts Andrew's reasons. Andrew admitted to murder, yes, but he also said he did it for his brother's sake." "It was premeditated," Dan said. "That isn't defense. He could have called the police or social services or gotten Nicky's parents involved." "People with our backgrounds are not inclined to trust the police," Renee said. "It probably never occurred to Andrew that they were a viable option." "And look at what happened last November," Neil added. "Andrew's always known Luther wouldn't protect Aaron." Dan looked between them, disbelieving. "You condone this?" Renee spread her hands and gave her friend a reassuring smile. "We cannot understand the situation entirely, Dan. We will never know Andrew's frame of mind at the time or how bad life with her was for them. All we can do is make a choice: believe that he was protecting Aaron or condemn him for taking the most extreme path. I would rather go with the former. Wouldn't you? It is encouraging and comforting to think he wasn't acting out of malice." "Next you'll say it's sweet," Allison mocked her. "Please don't," Dan said, with a small grimace. "My stomach's weak enough as it is right now."

Emily contemplates how it feels to have her kids growing up when her pre-teen daughter calls her for help.
-x-
Hi friends,
This is a gift for my bestie @ssa-sparks, because she deserves all the good things. But also because I made her start watching Bones with me a few months ago on Disney + GroupWatch and I know that the episode we are watching tonight will upset her. (5 x 16 for those who've seen it. IYKYK)
I hope you all enjoy this - it's largely fluff.

Emily groans as she buries her head in her hands, the thought of doing more paperwork enough to cause a migraine. She rubs her forehead for a second before she shakes her head and reopens her eyes, blowing out a breath as she looks at the pile of papers she still had to sign off.
It had been a few years since she’d been promoted to Section Chief and whilst she was grateful for the extra time it gave her with her kids, she could do without the paperwork and the politics. She smiles as she looks at a framed picture she took at Jack’s recent high school graduation at the start of summer. The boy she’d met when he was a tiny little thing standing tall in between his brother and sister, Oliver and Hazel, their matching grins all shining brightly at the camera. She was so proud of all of her children, of the people they were becoming, but it was hard watching them get older and feeling them need her less and less.
Hazel was 12 now, slowly becoming more embarrassed by her parents as time went on and grappling for her independence. The little girl who had once wanted to be with her everywhere she went, her little shadow, now fading away from her. Oliver was 9, and still at the stage where he loved to spend time with Emily and Aaron, and Emily knew she wasn’t alone in embracing every moment he wanted to spend with them, well aware that Aaron felt the same way, both of them all too familiar with the fact he’d outgrow them soon too.
She knew it meant she’d done a good job at parenting, something she’d once been convinced she wouldn’t be capable of. Her children were kind and empathetic. Independent and stubborn. And they made her proud every day.
But part of her desperately missed when they were tiny little things that made her lose sleep because they were crying for her, not because she was worried about where they were like she had been about Jack all summer before he left for college.
She shakes her head at herself and blows out a breath as she goes to pick up the next stack of papers, but she’s interrupted by her phone ringing. For a moment she thinks it’s going to be Jack again. He’d called her a lot since he’d moved away to college, either for homework advice or just to chat, and it made her smile every time, but she freezes as she reaches for her phone, and panic rises in her chest as she sees her daughter’s name and picture flash up on the screen. Hazel was only supposed to use her cell phone at school in emergencies only and Emily feels her cheeks go warm as she is overwhelmed by worst-case scenarios. She answers the phone quickly, taking a calming breath before she speaks.
“Haze, is everything okay?”
She hears a sniff down the line, followed by her daughter’s voice. A tight, controlled edge to it that wasn’t normal for her, “Mom? Can you come pick me up from school?”
“What’s wrong honey?” She asks, biting her thumbnail as she waits for an answer.
“I feel sick,” she replies, sniffing again, her voice shaking slightly, “Can you please come pick me up?”
Emily sighs sympathetically. Hazel loved school usually so she knew she wasn’t faking anything, that if said she was feeling sick she really was. She thinks of her husband, who had retired from the BAU years ago, who would be at home grading papers from one of the classes he taught at the academy.
“Honey, your Dad’s at home if you want to call-”
“No,” she says, clearing her throat before she lowers her voice, “I…I’d rather it was you. I started my period and…can you come get me?”
It all clicks into place. The fact Hazel was calling her in the middle of the day, her insistence Emily would go pick her up. The slight edge of desperation in her voice. It was a moment Emily had been trying to prepare Hazel for since she’d started middle school. They had products in the bathroom at home waiting for her, she’d talked through what it all meant, but the reality was different.
Her little girl really was growing up.
“Oh, sweetheart,” she says, already standing up and hastily packing her things into her briefcase, “I’ll leave the office now, okay? Do you need a change of clothes or anything?”
“No it’s okay it…it started in gym class,” Hazel says, sounding embarrassed, “I was in my gym shorts. The nurse gave me some things and I got changed back into my clothes.”
Emily shakes her head to herself, well aware of how cruel kids could be, that part of her daughter’s embarrassment would be down to the fact her classmates had likely realised what was happening.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can,” Emily assures her as she leaves her office, her phone pressed between her ear and her shoulder as she quickly writes a note for her assistant, letting him know where she’d gone.
“Thanks, Mom. Love you.”
She smiles as she walks towards the elevator, “Love you too, honey.”
The journey to the school has never felt longer, and Emily swears her heart breaks as soon as she sees Hazel.
She knows better than to pull her into a hug the way she wants to, well aware that if she showed any kind of affection on school property Hazel would likely never speak to her again, so she simply smiles softly, and exchanges a few words with the nurse whilst Hazel gathers her things.
Emily decides to let her daughter take the lead and maintains the silence she has set as they walk back to the car. It’s only when they are driving away, Hazel’s arms crossed tightly over her chest as she looks out the window, that she starts to speak.
“Thanks for picking me up.”
“No problem at all sweetheart,” Emily says, reaching over the centre console to squeeze Hazel’s knee, “You’re more important than anything,” she sees a hint of a smile, the dimples the pre-teen had inherited from both her and Aaron, carved deep into her cheeks, “I sent your dad out for ice cream, chocolate and snacks.”
Hazel turns to look at her so quickly Emily is sure it must have hurt, the young girl’s eyes wide, “You told Dad?”
She’d called him as soon as she left the office, trying to prepare him for what was probably going to be a long night of heavy emotions in their home, and he’d been the one to suggest that he went out to get all of Hazel’s food. It blew Emily away that he was still able to come up with ways to make her love him even more than she already did after all this time.
“I had to tell him why you were coming home, Haze,” Emily explains softly, “Plus, Dad does know what a period is, he’s lived with me for well over a decade, and Haley before that.”
Hazel sinks slightly further into her seat, her shoulders so tight Emily can see the tension in them when she briefly turns to look at her, “I guess.”
Emily has to stop herself from smirking, “I promise you he’ll be fine, the snacks were his idea.”
Hazel hums, “What are the snacks for anyway?”
She smiles as she stops the car at a traffic light and she reaches out for her daughter, tucking some of her hair behind her ear, “Trust me, baby, the snacks are the most important part of the whole thing.”
___
Emily sighs as she looks at herself in the mirror, her hands against the bathroom countertop as she gives herself a moment.
It had been a long evening. Hazel was insistent she wasn’t going to school the following day and that she’d go back on Monday, clearly hoping something else would have happened by then so that her period starting in the middle of gym class would be old news. Neither Emily nor Aaron could convince her otherwise, and had eventually relented, not wanting to upset her by forcing her to go. Oliver had overhead everything and, in a misguided but sweet attempt to cheer his sister up, had declared he’d started his period too - something that had led to Hazel yelling at him and him crying and immediately seeking out Emily for some comfort
She blows out a breath as she pinches the bridge of her nose, only looking back up when she hears the bathroom door opening, a small smile spreading over her face when her eyes meet her husband’s in the mirror.
“You okay?” He asks, walking over and wrapping his arms around her. She grunts in response and leans back against him, her hands linking with his over her abdomen. He chuckles and kisses the side of her head, “Is Hazel okay?”
Emily nods, “She’s tucked up in bed with a heating pad and some candy she thinks I didn’t see her sneaking out of the pantry.”
He smiles and kisses her head again before placing his hands on her hips and turning her to face him, “So we’re forgetting the ‘no food in the bedrooms rule’ tonight?”
She raises an eyebrow at him, “Do you want to go tell her to put it back?” She asks, smirking when he visibly swallows thickly, “That’s what I thought.”
Aaron wraps his arms around her tightly as she leans against him, her forehead against his chest as she breathes him in, her fists tight in the back of his t-shirt in a way that lets him know she’s upset about something. He gives her a moment, lets her take what she needs as he runs his hand up and down her back, and then he pulls away just enough so he can look at her.
“Are you okay, sweetheart?” He asks, repeating the question she hadn’t answered when he walked into the bathroom.
Emily blows out a breath, her shoulders heavy as if he’d just asked her the meaning of life, and she shrugs before she moves her hands to rest on his shoulders, idly plucking at a stray thread at the neckline of his t-shirt.
“She’s growing up.”
He stops himself from smiling, well aware that moments like this were absolutely not the time to make fun of her, no matter how lovingly, and he cups her cheek, forcing her to look at him.
“Baby, she’s 12.”
She groans, scrunching her nose up in distaste at her own mood, something she hadn’t been able to shift since the moment Hazel had called her that morning, “I know, I do know that,” she replies, sounding so sad his heart clenches in his chest, “But…they don’t need me as much anymore,” she says, pressing her lips together in a firm line, “I love them all so much, and I’m so proud of them, but I kind of miss when they were small and needed us to tuck them in or read them a story.”
He wraps his hand around hers and leads her to the bedroom, guiding her to sit on the edge of the bed as he joins her.
“Em, sweetheart,” he starts reassuringly, “They’ll always need you,” he says, and she scoffs, shaking her head as she wipes away a tear she feels ridiculous for shedding, “It’s true,” he says, smiling when she looks up at him, “Who is it that Jack calls every other day even though he’s in college?”
“Me,” she replies, clearing her throat in a vain attempt to push her emotions back down.
“And who is it Ollie wants every time he’s sad? And who did Hazel call earlier when she needed someone?”
“Me,” she says again, fighting a smile and failing as he smiles right back at her.
“And who do I need every day, not to mention when things go wrong?”
She blushes, unsure how she could still be so affected by him, “Me.”
He furrows his brows together, “No, Dave,” he deadpans, breaking into laughter, the sound that always warmed her from the inside out when her mouth drops open and she playfully tries to slap his shoulder, stopped when he catches her hand, “Of course it’s you,” he says, leaning in to kiss her, his lips stamped against hers, “You’re the glue, sweetheart. The thing that keeps us all together.”
She wraps her arms around him, pulling him into a hug that eases the last bit of tension in her chest. “How is it you always know what to say?”
He kisses her temple and smiles against her skin before he pulls back, “Well I am your husband, it would be pretty sad if I didn’t.”
There’s a gentle knock on the door and it’s pushed open, and Oliver pokes his head around the door, a concerned look in his eyes that Aaron always said was all her.
“Ollie,” Aaron starts, turning to look at his youngest, “You’re supposed to be in bed.”
“I know,” he says, his hands clasped in front of him as he nervously picks at his nails, “But I got up to go to the bathroom and…”
He drifts off and his parents exchange a look, and Emily turns back to their son and smiles encouragingly, “And…”
“I wondered if you’d tuck me in, Mom?” He asks, looking down at his hands as he shrugs, “And maybe read me a story?”
It had been so long since he’d asked for it she knows that he’d overheard their conversation, and it takes everything in her to not burst into tears. He was so sweet, so perfect, she often wondered how she’d made him. She swallows thickly, and feels her husband briefly hold her a little tighter.
“I’d love that sweet boy,” she says, grateful that her voice is even as she stands up and walks over to him. She ruffles his hair and he leans into her side, his smile wide as he looks up at her, clearly pleased that he’d cheered her up. She turns to look at Aaron, “I’ll be back in a bit.”
He nods and smiles at them, their matching expressions full of joy enough to make his heart swell in his chest.
“Take all the time you need.”
