on another “a3 ruined my life” moment, i read up a post talking about “making a love triangle” and my first assumption was to, like, physically make a triangle filled with love, and immediately jumped on the idea of “Misumi would love to make love triangles”, before the rest of the post hit me with the reminder of what “love triangle” usually refers to and being filled with intense disappointment. It’s barely even a real triangle. That’s not going to make Misumi as happy. Why would it exist. I think triangles filled with love should be a real thing for Misumi to be happy about it now.

What do you think of people who want to ship InoSumi to the point of splitting Sumire to Sumi + Re so Sumi can be written with kanji for inkstones to match Inojin?

Context, I took up Japanese lessons and while I only took up Hiragana and Katakana, I read about kanji and started practicing to type it, even researching ways to do it properly. For Sumire, using it as a name is only limited to this kanji, 菫, which means violet. Since kanji is tricky, celebs and famous people use either this, すみれ（hiragana) or スミレ (katakana). I had to explain this first since it frustrates me to see Japanese get used erroneously. So, I would like to ask your opinion about this. Thanks in advance.

it’s Sumire. With subtitles, they don’t write “Sumi re” and the characters don’t say “Sumi re”. it’s all one word.

you can’t shorten a character a character’s name for your own benefit.

and if we’re talking about shortening names, I’ve seen a few ppl say Sarada’s name was supposed to be Sara, without the “da” at the end. which that means “princess”/“pure”. just something I picked up on.

Sumire won’t match Inojin and besides, barely any Naruto/Boruto couple ends up with their names being connected.

Hinata: towards the sun

Naruto: maelstrom/roaring gate

Sakura: cherry blossom

Sasuke: assistant/help

it’s about THEIR connection, their relationship.

Hinata had a connection to Naruto because of both being Otsutsuki descendants.

Sumire has a connection to Boruto because of Nue, Kaguya Otsutsuki’s beast. and Boruto is a vessel.

and Sumire basically has become a main character since ts started because she’s immune. so the main couples don’t have “matching” name meanings.

if we’re talking about the ship itself and not the names, it still doesn’t work out because they’ve got to be some kind of bond there beforehand (ChoKarui with the exception). they barely interact for four eps after graduation.

but yeah, I take Japanese classes and that’s why I find these ppl stupid.

I’ve seen a lot of ppl’s blogs (so dedicated to the ship InoSumi, half of them were bsa shippers so that says a lot) saying about the name shortening and that’s how it originally was before the subtitles ruined it by having Sumire as one word and not two like it was “originally”.

personally for me, I originally thought her name was two words when I first watched the anime because I hadn’t read the manga yet. it was the way the characters had pronounced (in both dub and sub. I watch it in both to get a grasp on their voices and what difference in their words than originally) it, especially Namida. I can’t blame them, it does sound like two words, but given the subtitles and if you search up, Sumire is one word.

my fav Japanese name is Sumire, not because of Sumire in the anime/manga, but because I like violets and purple. that’s why I was drawn to Sumire and because of her personality. that’s why I don’t like them disrespecting her like that and only using her as a tool for shipping.

sorry, this got long, but it gets on my nerves when ppl do this because they’re wrong and it ruins the characters.

I love watching East or South East Asian media because it has similarities to my South Asian culture and I enjoy seeing these similarities that I wouldn't see in Western shows. However, seeing an actual South Asian movie where the culture is so similar to mine (different religions, so not quite the same) is so good! Family everywhere and all of them nosy! Familial pressure from all sides! The CNGs that they rode! The hustle and bustle of the city and of life! Hindi's similar to Bengali! Unfamiliar with the ultimate acceptance from many family members though lol but I can live vicariously through them I guess.

Sumi and Rimjhim (love her name) are so freaking beautiful. They were so beautiful.

I didn't like Shardul (lmfao patriarchal cop mans) but I guess... this movie wasn't necessarily about liking him. He deserves rights and for his queerness to be accepted even if I don't like him. I wish we got some more of the lawyer mans and Shardul, he was the most interesting character for sure.

Happy ending, funny moments, tinged with some sadness and struggles. I enjoyed it.

I love the energy and all and I don’t want to offend but as a Muslim girl i can tell you that it is literally haram to identify as anything other than your god given gender. Like I’m not trying to be rude and I’m glad that there a respectful supportive people out there but if you’re looking at the Quran and other islamic book you’ll find stories about how its considered haram. Accepting the islam religion means accepting everything and dedicating yourself to it you can’t just pick and choose.

I would be interested to know what other Islamic books ur talking about btw, but I'm pretty sure the quran doesn't mention being trans anywhere at all. in fact I'm pretty certain, I've read it multiple times with translation and commentary interpretations and anyway being trans wasn't really a 'known' thing back then? bcuz obviously patriarchy and gender roles n segregation blah blah was wayyyy more yk. shit I forgot the word. uhhh yk like prevalent?? ofc the quran does mention a shitton about gender roles,, so yk men r the breadwinners, women raise the kids and keep house and be good wives etc. and also remember the big important fact:: GENDER AND SEX R DIFFERENT THINGS!!! meaning technically u cant be 'born' a gender (omfg my keyboard hates me imagine a question mark here) ur born with certain genitals and society assigns u a gender based on that . sounds a bit fucked when u put it like that actually but anyway back when the quran was being revealed this wasn't a known thing cuz yk they didn't have studies on this stuff,, and yea ur probably gonna say 'but the quran came from allah and he knows everything' well the fact of the matter is he either forgot or smth idk I don't speak for God but trans people definitely exist that's a fact we know so yeah. oh I should come back to my point which was, even with the quran saying those things about what ur supposed to do based on whats in ur pants which is crazy outdated anyway it doesn't take gender ≠ sex into consideration either soo ye that's the most it could've said about being trans and that not very valid anymore rip and that's not even mentioning non-binary people

and anyway Islam is literally all about acceptance and respect and everything so idk it would probably be better if u didn't go around telling ppl they're 'literally haram' for being trans or gay or any typa queer bcuz its literally not our choice (insert question marks) believe me I would fucking love to be comfortable in my 'female' body but I cant no matter how much I try to force myself so I'm sorry dude. no one would choose to be stuck in a situation like this. personally, I believe Islam needs a super massive reformation. well not Islam exactly, but a lot of things said in the quran r outdated wildly now, while a lot of it will also always be relevant, eg. everyone being equal and yk give to the poor etc. i have absolutely nothing against Muslims (I have it against my family for being so forceful about religion - different thing) yall r super cool and ik being a Muslim girl isn't easy believe me, but genuinely seeing Muslim people around and yk, just existing in wider society outside of Islamic spaces makes me feel so proud of where I came from even if its not been the best experience. have u seen the show We are Lady Parts (question mark) its about an all female Muslim punk band and there's only six episodes I literally watched it all today but the message of it is what I'm trying to get to you. u don't have to be the perfect pious wife to be considered a 'good Muslim',, there are so many ways u can show faith. you don't have to be a big strong man who can handle all pain with ease while single-handedly providing for a family either.

thoughts on badhaai do

it definitely wasn't a perfect movie and the story was too obviously led by cishets but i loved how it didn't end w everyone's acceptance. sumi's mom wasn't even present during the pooja at the end but it didn't matter bc they had what was important to them. freedom, a child and their own acceptance. and that of sumi and rimjhim under the pride flag? i owe them my life for it. if i'm reviewing this objectively its 7/10 but i'm attached to the characters this is now one of my comfort films so for introducing sumi, rimjhim, guru and shardul's mom to me i'm giving this one a ten. (also for the pride scene. cinematography.)

what i didn't like: it does drag in between while some other plotlines are never properly explored (i honestly didn't feel like they focused enough on sumi and shardul's relationship although it was supposed to be the backbone of the film). the kabir plotline should have been completely deleted actually and instead focused more on shardul's misogyny and his relationship w sumi.

the entire kabir plotline was so bad tbh. one, the age gap was a questionable (they'd been together 3 years already so). two, wow were they gonna write that domestic violence off bc they were both men?? bc shardul should have gone to jail for that wtf?? three, it wasn't even ever resolved. if they were carry it in this direction anyway there should have been a scene where they sat down and talked but?? four, the domestic violence thing. you can't raise ur hand on ur lover and it looks so much worse bc shardul's around 8-10 years older than him he's dating a college student and when he realizes the dude's bored of him and lying to him he hits him and then says sorry stfu and go to jail.

also there's many times thru out where i really felt like this story was made largely by cishets. the romances really suffered from the heterofication of gay love bc a) the violence thing w shardul and b) when sumi and rimjhim fought and said callous things to each other but never talked about it, apologized or even addressed the root of the issue (rimjhim's jealousy. u can argue that it'd be futile to bring it up since everyone knows suman's gay but it doesn't hurt to write a scene where a girl placates her gf's insecurities.)

basically. heterofication. like they had to show gay romances were like toxic cishet ones to make the audience more accepting or smth i literally dk but i hated it.

oh and the biphobia. did they have to shove that on rimjhim's character. like ik gay ppl can be v biphobic but if ur not going to address that as an issue that needs to be changed then don't bring it up at all.

lastly, shardul's misogyny. tbh i loved that they brought it up bc really cis gay men can be so fucking nasty and misogynist and its almost never talked about bc apparently gay men are more understanding of women (suman even exclaims this once!). it was done well and used as a comedic device which did give way to some good jokes but in the end we never see him grow out of it, realize he was wrong or apologize to suman. from the one year skip its obv it was resolved he isn't a dick anymore (bc shardul's misogyny came from his need to hide his sexuality behind the alpha male façade) but instead of wasting time on the kabir plot i wish they'd instead explored this deeper and concluded this plotline onscreen.

what i liked:

everything else. i loved every lgbt character (except kabir bc idk what to think about him and shardul bc he's on thin fucking ice), shardul's mother and suman's dad. also loved naaznin. if only we got to see more of her.

i teared up so much by the end esp during suman's conversation w her father and when shardul's mom hugged him. but its when her father tells rimjhim to sit beside sumi that i genuinely broke down. everything else was like sumi herself said: u expected this much from them. u imagine that soming out scene so much when they say those exact words that lock u up w terror, u feel like u've already heard it before. her father was the only one she had hope in, her father was the only person she had any expectations for. he too let her down thou, he too broke her heart. but he got over it, he made up for it. he didn't only accept her, he accepted her gf too, as sumi's partner, as the mother to sumi's child. he told her to sit next to his daughter and sobbed so hard like i'm never going to have that so its soothing to see a fictional character get that.

and shardul's mom oh god i adore her. she shouldn't have outed suman ever but i can't bring myself to think of her as a bad person for that. bc when it came to her own son? she accepted him the minute he said he was gay. she gave him what sumi wanted from her father, what she begged her father for. not understanding not even kindness just acceptance. and that's true love yk that's what parental love should be like. u don't need to understand ur kids u should be accepting them no matter what. i do think the reason she outed suman had less to do w her being gay and more w her thinking suman cheated on her son thou. this is like the only time i've forgiven an outing wow this movie really did that.

anyway the whole kabir sequence was unnecessary and only made me hate shardul more. cis gay men Are misogynist and i like that they addressed that but it wasn't properly resolved onscreen and that combined w kabir made shardul such a despicable character. if i delete that thou then i adore him misogyny and all. i was so proud of him in the end. when he came out in anger hearing his family insulting sumi (inadvertently insulting him), when he wore the mask during pride and when he called his bf over during the pooja. loved his growth thou really instead of the kabir plot i wish they worked more on sumi and shardul i wanted to see them bond more to see them become best friends, each other's ride-or-dies. only good thing that came out of that plotline was that we got sumi-shardul bonding moments. yeah my only gripe w this movie is the kabir plot. all that screentime wasted when they could have focused on other plots like sumi-shardul, shardul/guru or more of sumi/rimjhim. or the resolution of his misogyny.

omg guru. i loved that guy so much loved every scene w him in it he really saved the movie by fixing the male lead thank god. (those scenes of him flirting w shardul. the business card and the secret hand holding omg.)

my favorite thing obv was sumi and rimjhim. there was smth so accurate about lesbians moving in immediately and then discussing children within weeks of dating. their romance arc their relationship the way they're moms!! (they're MOMS!!) all of it was such a delight to watch. it felt so good to watch a wlw romance in a bollywood movie i could watch them for hours i wish they got a full length feature film like all that chemistry, their acting, their story, it feels inadequate watching it all squeezed into the movie as a parallel plot. (wish we saw them getting married. just a marriage scene is that too much to ask for.)

anyone who says "akechi willingly approached shido" IMMEDIATELY make my hackles raise. akechi was a young teenage boy alone in the world and hellbent on getting revenge and was not thinking with a clear mind. it was a plan made with the same emotional impulsivity that was no different than ryuji rushing into kamoshida's office, ready to punch him, after what he did to shiho. it was a plan that's no different than ryuji taking a swing at kamoshida while still on the track team and getting his leg broken for it. are we to say ryuji "willingly" responded to kamoshida's provocation and therefore dismiss all the hurt that came after that? both boys acted under the unjust duress of their circumstances, actions that were both done as a way to defend their mothers and themselves b t w.

sidebar: do we hold ken amada from persona 3 accountable for getting shinji killed because he admitted to being a persona user in front of takaya? do we hold ken accountable for shinji even being in that alleyway that night? no? so we understand that ken was a young boy acting under the duress of his unjust circumstances, hinging it all on revenge so that his mother’s killer could be brought to some kind of justice? we understand that this young boy whose revenge plot was so convoluted, misguided, and thought out for years, yet still not something to blame him for? yes? then why do we hold akechi accountable for his own convoluted, years in the making revenge plot that resulted in the death of others?

guess what ann did? “willingly” flirted with kamoshida to help shiho stay on the team. and hated doing it. guess what akechi did? “willingly” sided with shido’s plot to murder and blackmail his way into power to get in close and get his revenge. and hated doing it. are we going to blame ann for responding to kamoshida's advances? no? then why are we blaming akechi for thinking his only choice was this elaborately stupid revenge plot?

are we going to blame sumi for her moment of weakness that maruki took advantage of in his palace, allowing him to hold her hostage, torture her, and use her persona powers to attack the PT? no? then why are we holding akechi accountable for being an unloved, miserable, bitter orphan who went to the father who abandoned him offering up his powers to be used, and have that father then expand akechi's powers for his own benefit? both akechi and sumi were in weak moments that were taken advantage of. both made decisions under duress. neither of them are responsible for what the men who had power over them did to them.

why do we assume akechi was in any sort of right mind simply because he keeps himself so calm and collected in his recounting of these decisions when we've seen all game long he is masterfully skilled in hiding his feelings?

ppl wanna act like the PT are so unfortunate and need care and protection just because they’re just teenagers until it comes to akechi, who was an even YOUNGER teenager when he got involved with shido, and suddenly it's his fault and he doesn’t need any of that. yeah akechi went to shido to be like HEY YOU CAN USE MY POWER TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, and shido was like “oh good let's fix you up to kill.” shido himself takes credit for expanding akechi's powers in the first place.

my buddy @blkmvsk pointed out something rly important here, and it’s the idea of a “messy” victim. akechi is an incredibly messy victim; kylo ren is to star wars as akechi is to persona 5 royal when it comes to “messy” victims. both of them have body counts and a heap of shitty decisions that never brought them to happiness or peace of mind they craved, and both of them had moments of reckoning when this realization hit them. but ppl in both those fandoms don’t want to see that. what it comes down to is if you’re not a perfect victim--if you’re not sad and suffering and making only slightly bad choices instead of really bad ones--you are therefore guilty for what you went through and all the shitty choices you made after it.

and you know what that is, dear reader? victim blaming.

How into fashion do you think each of the PT are into?

omg yes fashion questions.......akira and ann are deep, DEEP into fashion - akira isn’t at first since it wasn’t something he got to explore at home, but after becoming close with ann and taking that trip to harajuku, he’s SO down. they help each other pick out outfits, they try each other’s makeup, and they’re the best two to help the other thieves choose clothes. casually, i feel like ann is sort of gyaru type while akira is a goth with punk flavors, but they both have a capacity to be extremely sophisticated and classy if the occasion calls for it.

i think haru too is pretty fashionable, but rather than it being a distinct interest for her, she was sort of raised to look nice and i imagine much was picked out for her. however, i think haru does enjoy clothes once she can pick for herself and i’d think she does stay with a very feminine style but she gets more bold with her choices after awhile...like haru with sweet and ruffly lolita pieces, she would be adorable!!!

makoto isn’t super interested in fashion, she likes super sleek looks and i really like her enjoying more masculine styles, but it isn’t a big priority to her. she can enjoy shopping (esp with haru...pls they’re so cute...), but it’s not how she would prefer to spend her time or her money, so her wardrobe would probably be fairly minimalist too, with an emphasis on maximizing mixing and matching pieces. 

yusuke i think oscillates between the two polar ends of “does not give a shit” to “NEEDS THIS PIECE IMMEDIATELY” kfhdgdgh like generally yusuke wouldn’t be too excited about clothes shopping (he wants to spend money of beauty products and art supplies), but if he sees an interesting piece on a mannequin, he rushes into the shop to grab it. this leads to his wardrobe being extremely eclectic and imbalanced, but full of eye-catching pieces...whether or not they go together entirely is another story. he can usually make it work just with his good eye, but it sort of looks like a mess at first glance lol

ryuji is a classic jock.....most fashion he doesn’t really care too much about, but shoes???? ryuji would have a HUGE collection of shoes, he would rival even ann’s closet, but it would be a bunch of sneakers lol given his likely financial situation, he can’t really buy too much as a kid, but i like to imagine ryuji becomes a physical therapist as an adult and he can finally get all the shoes he deserves 😌

futaba absolutely does NOT care, she likes what’s comfy and just a bunch of fandom/meme shirts, the rest doesn’t matter. so many ppl don’t like he summer outfit, but i really love it bc it sort of epitomizes the clothes i see her in most often - big baggy pants and a goofy tank top is perfect for her. also her pjs, just some comfy shorts and a loose-fitting shirt, the best outfit to spend all day at the computer in!!

goro i think hasn’t had the chance to explore his own style - he’s either been very poor or very regulated (and overall, very busy), both of which don’t allow him to really even think of self-expression. however, unlike haru, i think his fashion sense would change a LOT once he’s out on his own and although i don’t think he’d be super into shopping, i think he would be very particular about what he wants and every piece he owns is something he loves. i also think he MUST have an affinity for pieces with some dramatic flair to them, but in subtler ways (like a jacket with a bright lining or shirts with asymmetric cuts - it’s unexpected and interesting, but not wild like yusuke lol) and finally sumi!!

sumi i think would have a very sweet sense of style and she loves clothes shopping as she gets more confident in her own ideas, tastes, and preferences. she’s super intimidated at first and can still get frazzled (definitely not a shop til she drops type, she needs lunch breaks), but she does much better shopping with friends and having a sounding board for her thoughts on an outfit. that doesn’t mean she relies on the other person to make the decisions, but rather that she feels more confident being able to think out loud and list her reasons why she should or shouldn’t make a purchase.

Inosuke was taken in by the Butterfly Estate and is very vocal about everything and grows wildly attached to people at random

Zenitsu is selectively mute and is Kaigaku’s tsuguko

Nezuko acts tough so that ppl don’t underestimate her as a “cute girl”

Genya got really fucking lost looking for Sanemi and like got into an accident with a demon and kind of forgot who he was even looking for in the first place?

Kanao learned pity for demons from Kanae, and is also self appointed big sister of Inosuke, Aoi, Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho

Tanjirou is asleep the majority of the time but he likes growing big and hugging Nezuko bc big brother instincts survive all

Zenitsu and Genya are already established friends

Genya fights using two serrated knives and biting shit

Inosuke is currently trying to create Breath of Beast and only knows one form of Flower Breathing

He also gets too worked up in battle, then passes out and fights completely calmly

Kanao has a killer kick that decimates literally everything

A big thing too is there is no guarantee Atlus will do anything with what they baited in Royal and I know that's why I'm frustrated. I know a lot of people don't have confidence because nothing they've done with Goro makes sense, and its based on getting fans to spend money, not because they care about a character, so it feels like sunk cost? He's still left out of things and I wouldn't feel negative about Royal if I knew for sure they would bring him back. Ppl are tired of being baited.

If you were just after commiseration: ugh! I know!! It’s so frustrating! Atlus is bad in general about payoff and the problem is on glaring display with Goro. You’d think with a whole ass remake and all the money Vanilla made, they’d have the resources to figure out how to handle a complex character in a satisfying way, but those homophobes couldn’t write their way out a wet paper bag and the brilliance of Goro Akechi was almost certainly a happy accident.

If you want my more tough love advice and analysis: expecting a big company like Atlus (ESPECIALLY one with Atlus’s reputation) to deliver on the very specific stuff that fans like us want is indeed a one-way ticket to frustration. I won’t go into speculation about how the character of Goro came to be, but I will say that he feels like a character who was developed for one purpose and then as the writing went on he adopted more importance to the story but the initial plan for what happened to him didn’t adjust to match. Stuff like that happens in writing all the time, and particularly in stories as complex and with as many people working on them as p5. So when I feel like something about Goro’s handling doesn’t make sense, I try to look at it from that perspective. It’s not a deliberate mishandling or a disregard for the character; it was just an early-development failure to accurately predict what would be necessary for his specific arc. And imo Royal put a lot of work into fixing that, but the simple fact is that a truly satisfying outcome for this character would require some significant rewrites and adjustments to the basic fabric of the game, and the devs just aren’t in a position to do that, for lots of reasons. So no matter how much I like the third semester, nothing we were going to get was ever going to feel as complete as it could. So if you are holding out for canon content to somehow justify or validate all of the energy you’ve put into this character and shuake as a ship, then I’m sorry to say you’re probably right and that nothing we get will ever feel like enough. If you feel like that means being engaged with the story and characters isn’t worth it, then you should consider putting your time into something else, to save yourself the frustration. I can’t say how much of the “baiting” around Goro’s character is intentional, but I don’t have any confidence that this lingering feeling of incompleteness is going to be resolved, and I know that people do leave fandoms for that reason. Personally, I am pleased and compelled enough by what we have to stick around, and in fact I might prefer Atlus leaving well enough alone at this point. They’re notorious for wrecking character arcs and tbh I don’t trust them not to ruin Goro Akechi. They can just hand him off to us, it’s fine. We’ll treat him better.

As for Goro being left out of stuff, maybe I just don’t pay enough attention to the tie-in media, but I’ve never been as upset by that as I know a lot of people are. It’s disappointing that he’s not in Scramble, it really, really is, and I wish he could have had at least a cameo, but I also understand why he’s not there and it’s not a malicious choice by the company. Scramble was in development at the same time as Royal, so characters whose very presence would spoil Royal obviously couldn’t be included, which also leaves Sumi and Maruki in the lurch. It’s not ideal but it is understandable. Goro is in the dancing game, as well as pq2, and he just got to be a major part of the train mystery AR game that happened a while ago. He’s even getting a lot of love in the musicals, showing up early and getting more attention at this point in the story than he did in the actual game, almost like the writers are realizing his importance should have been seeded earlier and now, with hindsight, are able to correct some mistakes. He gets a lot of fun stuff in the anime, which I generally don’t like, but their handling of Goro is one of the things I approve of. Rokuro Saito, who writes the Mementos Mission manga, obviously likes him and puts effort into his appearances. I suppose I’m not really sure what he’s been “left out of” other than promo material and like,,, some official art. Due to the nature of who he is in the story, he’s a difficult character to work into things. The people creating this content walk a thin line between not wanting to spoil Vanilla OR Royal for folks who might still spend money to buy the game, and knowing that Goro’s status as a “traitor” means it’d be weird for him to just be included in group shots of the characters. Do I wish there was more content of him? Yes, but I also don’t really see a concentrated effort to leave him out of stuff.

I’m not trying to invalidate your feelings at all, of course. I see sentiments like yours all over the fandom from people who clearly enjoy the story and care deeply about the characters, and I know exactly how frustrating and pointless it all feels. I toss and turn at night thinking about all the ways the game could have treated Goro better, treated Akira better, treated its own themes better, and sometimes I just want to claw my own skin off at all the wasted opportunities, But ultimately, I channel that discontent into my own creativity and appreciate the folks who work to make sense of the nonsense. It’s not a dealbreaker to me. These negative feelings only serve to remind me how much I love these characters, and I know none of us would rage so hard if we didn’t connect to this story in some way. But I can’t count on the source material to make me happy. That’s not the source material’s job. And in the end you have to ask yourself if it’s worth it to you to stick around for something that’s only going to keep disappointing your specific needs.

I don’t want to discourage people from coming to me to vent, but just know that I've been through the gamut with this fandom and I’ve got opinions about Everything, so if that’s not what you need, sorry! I just want to soothe negativity if at all possible but I know not everyone is interested in a lecture <3

Hi again sorry this took so long to answer! I didn't get the notif and I'm not used to my inbox actually having things in it so I keep forgetting to check lol

I'll settle on a codename for labrys eventually, one day it's gonna click! I've given up on actually writing the au my pt labby is from bc every time I try something drastically changes about it and I end up needing to scrap everything. I think at one point or another I had like 30-40k words down in a suuuper rough first draft before I ended up needing to trash it all? I still have some pieces of it in my docs but that was a really really early version so not much can be salvaged. Every other attempt has been nowhere near that much, usually ending at about 3k words in. It's just been stewing in my head and not on paper for like three or four years now, so there's no rush on settling the details.

As for sumibrys. Deep inhale.

They'd be so good. They'd be so, so good and it's the biggest brained thing I've ever come up with (at least I'm like 99.9% sure I came up with it, I went looking for content and there was absolutely nothing, not a single tiny scrap) and I have achieved ultimate enlightenment.

Prince (@/princekirijo) and I were talking abt this a couple days ago but to paraphrase:

Their personalities are so so compatible, they're similar enough people and have so many shared experiences between them that there'd be a pretty instant understanding, and yet their outlooks on life are different enough to constrast each other and push the other to be better. They're just both really warm, gentle, supportive people, but in slightly different ways. Not to mention the HEAPINGS of nearly identical trauma. The moment they met they'd be BEST friends.

And from then on like? They just feel like they'd have the sort of friendship where it turning romantic would feel like the most natural thing in the world bc nothing would really change. Kinda like the way a lot of ppl talk about akiryu. They're just the sort of people to be constantly soft and supportive of the other, in awe of every little mundane thing the other does (such as labrys being amazed by sumire's grace plus sumi doing mundane human things and sumire being rendered unable to speak by watching labrys swing around a giant rocket axe like it weighs nothing), constantly watching out for each other's struggles, wanting better for the other. It'd just be so pure, and so sweet, and god it's a blessed concept and I want ppl to jump on it SO BAD-

Ahem. Anyways, I will force this rarepair into the fandom with my bare hands if I have to and I will accept any help I can get in converting others to the church of sumibrys (and also labrys in general labby deserves so much more attention from the fandom). A Honest Review of Nostalgia? (feat. Romantica)

Took my time to gather enough courage to write this ^^;;

So here goes my unneeded opinions...

First thing first, the premise. Just from reading the blurb I already knew where Nostalgia is heading, how things will not end up pretty... And it baffles me that many ppl are realizing it now? Your tyrannical boss turns out to be your ex and he wants to make you his again. Isn’t that just scary xD Then again, doesn’t trouble me that much bcs I don’t get the logic that queer relationships always have to be happy and healthy when relationships irl aren’t always sunshine and rainbows regardless if it’s queer or not. But yeah, that’s not the actual problem, instead some ppl can be uncomfortable with its portrayal and it may be triggering.

Moving onnnn to the first chapter, haha I did remember watching the sih anime but I can’t even recall what the hell happened in the two seasons. Reading the first chapter again for the second time I’m reminded once again of how boring the plot of Nostalgia is in general xD The beautiful animation and ost didn’t manage to fool me, heck yah~ I think 90% of the plot is just abt manga publishing + whatever happened 10 years ago. I tried so hard to like the characters but I can’t, I found all of them are one-dimensional as opposed to Romantica’s more quirky yet deeper cast. Like, sure Usagi loves Misaki too frickin much that without him he’ll die (lol) but his character arc isn’t limited to anything related to Misaki.

Even I saw some Japanese reviewers complaining how slow the plot moves , they even used the snail emoji bwahaha 🐌 When I thought Romantica can be repetitive and boring at times, but good lord Nostalgia has it even slower. If there’s another chapter abt senpai flashback again in the future seriously I will imagine there’s a wall in front of me and bonk my head against it (no way I would do that with a real wall it will hurt ;-;) Like c’mon. They need to stop fixating on the past. Of course Romantica has flashback chapters too but it’s to add something new, but in Nostalgia’s case it will hinder them to move forward hence the barely progressing plot

Now I would like to comment on the love rivals. Excluding An, all the love rivals are annoying me xD Why? Bcs their existence doesn’t do much other than for drama. Yokozawa is the typical jealous ex, Haitani is a Sumi copycat and Nao is just another Yokozawa but this time pursuing Ritsu. Lol Nakamura what just happened. As for Romantica’s love rivals, we know that their roles aren’t just to spice things up. Sumi kickstarted massive character developments of both Usagi and Misaki, yeah he’s approaching Misaki only to try getting into Usagi’s pants but hey he still cares genuinely for Misaki and they remained bffs after that. Won’t comment on Mizuki since he’s not rly a love rival. I’ve grown meh over Kaoruko so won’t talk abt her too. In Haruhiko’s case, him pursuing Misaki is just a small part in in his and Usagi’s already strained relationship, and it’s to show how the two brothers doesn’t rly differ from each other. As for Ijuuin... Lol I know he can be annoying but let’s be honest he acts as a perfect foil to Usagi and their banters  are so fun to watch (with Jojo-esque sound effects haha).

Now getting past the plot, characterization... It’s time to talk abt Takano and Ritsu’s relationship. Personally I still think that their relationship can still be fixed, especially on Takano’s end. He needs to give Ritsu some space, that poor boy needs time to carefully sort out his thoughts and feelings, I can tell how much Ritsu is confused with himself. He has to APOLOGIZE,  and put Ritsu’s feelings before his own. He can’t just do whatever he pleased and telling Ritsu what to do, given that they’re not even dating yet for now.

As for Ritsu... If he couldn’t voice it out, then he shouldn’t force himself to. There are lots of other ways to express your love and it isn’t just saying “I love you.” Believe it or not, it’s actually possible for a couple who haven’t said I love you to each other directly to still enjoy a happy relationship. Just ask Victuuri lmao.

Last but not least, my expectations of Nostalgia in future chapters. Uhh, I have to say that I’m pretty neutral on whether they will still end up together or they will break up but honestly the latter part seems impossible ^^;; Now that the countdown is getting close and Ritsu’s probably going to confess, but I will be quite disappointed if he does as soon he and Takano meet again. I don’t think that would be a right timing, given how things are going now. It should be done when things are properly sorted out between them and Takano not only apologized but turned over a new leaf as well. I do strongly think that the current Takano doesn’t deserve Ritsu’s confession as per now.

Can't believe ppl are getting mad at you for the Trevor/Sypha complaints. Truth is truth. It's hamfisted and wasn't developed. Ellis could've done better but decided to slam us with sudden canon!Trepha (without explaining how and why they got together) and told us to just deal with it 'cause hey he gave us vampire lesbians and bi!Alucard.

Honestly, even then I am upset with how the gay representation was done! The vampire lesbians are probably going to die, cause theyre the bad guys. Bisexual Alucard ends up killing his lovers, and besides the whole scene was creepy. I mean they were siblings. And it came out of nowhere. And it just felt way too forced. The Taka and Sumi arc could of been done in one episode if they hadn’t tried to show us every narrative every episode. The Hector arc could of been done in two or three episodes too!

If everything had been done with more build up and consideration then I would of been fine. It felt like they bit of more than they could chew. I’m also like wondering what happened to going to Braila like Trevor and Sypha planned in season 2. Why are they ignoring Carmilla? Why was this village arc so important? The first season was all about the church’s corruption, we didn’t need it again in a different flavour. Why didn’t Trevor or Sypha mention Alucard once? I thought they were friends???

Also to the anons that have been sending me slack, there have been three I refuse to respond to cause it was so aggressive and called me biphobic. One, I am bisexual myself. Two, it’s a show and I am allowed to have my opinions just like you can have your own. I wont attack people who liked the Trepha scenes just because I didn’t like it. Nero & Dad!Vergil

Nero tells Vergil everyone believes he is Dante’s son because they have similar personalities, ppl skills,… Vergil’s response? :) 

So, this is my first commission. I am so excited and... confused, because I found this question really difficult. Vergil is a complex character. How would he react to Nero's question? Would Nero want to tease him or make him feel sorry for not being around for such a long time?

 I decided to write both in English and Polish, as I love my native language. Also I'm used to write more novelist fanfics, so this one would be something more/longer than just dialog.

  It was one of those evenings when Nero could not find anything to occupy himself with. He completed his last assignment over a week ago. He already healed, had plenty of food and rest. He handed his cybernetic arm over to Nico for repairs, he discussed strategies with Dante and Lady and made at least a dozen phone calls to Kyrie. And now he was feeling that he was starting to get seriously bored. Seriously. Bored. He wandered around the ground floor of the DMC headquarters, he shifted Dante's magazines from one place to another. He switched between radio stations in the antique receiver which stood on the windowsill. From time to time he let out a loud sigh or he hummed a tune. Simply put, he was loosing his senses.

 He was such a contrast to Vergil - who was unmoved, still like a statue, reading something in the corner of the room as usual. The light of the lamp caught only the book and the lower part of his face. Corners of his lips were slightly raised, as if in amusement.

 Nero was unaware how he gravitated towards him. Finally he stopped for a while and, as if suddenly noticing the other man's presence, began watching him intensely. He took a bite on an apple he picked up somewhere on the way. Finally he said, as if to himself:

"People say that I must be Dante's son."

 Vergil flipped a book page and went on reading.

 "Everyone believes that we are not only physically similar to each other" - Nero continued, "but that we behave in the same way".

 Perhaps he was imagining it, but it seemed Vergil sighed softly.

 "Well, all in all, it is not that strange. I spent a lot of time in his companion. We even have a similar fighting style." Nero shifted his shoulders, clenched his hands into fists - the left as far as the apple allowed it- and made a few test blows, dripping juice around the room. "Same movements. Way of dealing blows. Even how we hold the sword..."

 He looked at Vergil and noted, not without satisfaction, that the man put the book away and was now looking directly at him.

 "Indeed" - he said, slowly. "Thus, we must do something about it."

 He rose almost theatrically, letting the cloak slide from his shoulders, and reached for the Yamato, which was lying near by. Nero froze in the middle of his next bite, his jaw slightly dropping. Vergil was now holding the hilt with two hands, but the blade remained sheathed. He took a long, measuring look at his son, head to toes.

 "Show me what you've got" - he said.

 The boy dropped the apple and looked around in search of his own blade, which he found by the stairs. The Red Queen shone in the light of the lamp.

 He could not tell where this was headed or what was Vergil expecting of him. He surely had not intended to cause this with that little provocation. But then, on the other hand, if the old man wanted to solve things with a fight, who was Nero to tell him otherwise? He swung around with a loud swish and without much thinking he advanced towards Vergil. He led the demonic blade sharply upward, aiming under Vergil's arm, but it only cut through the air as his father moved away, and a kick from the side sent Nero against the wall.

 The boy staggered but quickly regained firm ground and turned around, just in time to deflect a thrust. With a short cry he jumped to meet the next blow. The sword and katana met with a loud cling. Nero felt demon awakening inside him and blue, ethereal wings started to form above his shoulders.

 "Put those away, boy" - barked Vergil, pushing harder and tilting the blade so that the Red Queen slid downwards. As soon as the boy's body began to follow the sword, Vergil smashed against his shoulder with his elbow, increasing the momentum. Nero dropped to one knee, screaming. He wanted to rise again, but the touch of the still-sheathed Yamato on his neck made him freeze. Were the blade naked, his throat would have been cut already.

 "What do you mean to prove this way?" - he barked angrily. Vergil had a formidable fighting style, he had known this for a while now. The man's moves were calculated, economical, perfect, without any claptrap. His evasions were done with a minimum of movements and his katana stokes were calculated to kill instantly. What was the point of this show? To make his son feel inexperienced? A dead weight?

 Nero felt his jaw muscles clenching from rage. He was fed up with this kind of treatment. Perhaps he was unconsciously trying to provoke Vergil, but he had not expected violence. He had not expected...

 "There is a saying: in combat, the heart must be hot, but the head must remain calm " - the silent tones of Vergil's voice brought Nero back. The pressure on the neck weakened, but not entirely. Nero rose his head and met his fathers cold, calculating gaze. - "It is hard to accomplish, even harder in the demonic form, when fire engulfs the body, when emotions make it hard to see clearly. Combat becomes... almost thoughtless. Before you start fighting as a demon, learn to defeat others as a human. Demon is only there to help you increase your strength and fortitude, nothing more. You cannot forget about your technique and your human side." Vergil withdrew his sword, turned around and let out a heavy sigh.

 Nero thought that there had to be more to that than fatigue. At first annoyed at the obvious remarks, now, thinking of his father's past, his attempt to reject his humanity he suddenly understood the change the man had to go through in the last few months. A change which was, perhaps, yet incomplete.

 There also seemed to be some sort of resignation in the silent words of his father. Perhaps resulting from reconciliation with his own self. It was not just some lesson he wanted to pass on to his son, this was admitting that he has been living in error for the most part of his life. Bearing in mind how proud a person he was, this sort of confession must have been hard for him.

 Nero did not know what to say, he was stunned. The silence went on, until the boy stood up and looked at his father's back.

 "Will you teach me?"

 Vergil flintched and half turned. Nero was unsure, but for a second there he might have seen a faint smile on the man's face. It was one of those hard-won moments when they had some form of understanding. Their relation was far from the typical father and son bond and Nero doubted if they ever could approach any level of normality, but these moments meant a lot to him.

 "Yes, Nero. I will teach you." - Vergil said, at last. "This, and much more. As for the rest of your... habits"

 Oh boy, thought Nero, this is where it all goes wrong.

 "...you have always reminded me more of your mother".

To był jeden z tych wieczorów, kiedy Nero nigdzie nie mógł znaleźć miejsca. Ostatnie zlecenie wykonał ponad tydzień temu, zdążył się wyleczyć, umówić strategię z Dantem i Lady, oddać Nico mechaniczne przedramię do naprawy, odpocząć, najeść i wykonać tuzin telefonów do Kyrie. Teraz czuł, że zaczyna się zwyczajnie, po ludzku, nudzić. Kręcił się po parterze siedziby DMC, przekładał czasopisma Dantego z miejsca na miejsce. Przełączał stacje radiowe w antycznym odbiorniku, który stał na parapecie. Wzdychał, coś tam do siebie nucił. Słowem – odchodził od zmysłów.

Stanowił kontrast do Vergila, który niewzruszony, nieruchomy jak posąg, jak zwykle czytał coś w kącie pokoju. Światło lampy wydobywało z mroku tylko dolną część jego twarzy i książkę. Kącik ust był lekko uniesiony, jakby w rozbawieniu.

Nero chwilę obserwował go w skupieniu i, niby do siebie, powiedział.

-Ludzie mówią, że na pewno jestem synem Dantego.

Vergil przełożył kartkę i zaczął czytać następną stronę.

-Wszyscy uważają – Nero ciągnął niewzruszony – że nie tylko jesteśmy do siebie fizycznie podobni, ale wręcz zachowujemy się tak samo.

Mogło mu się zdawać, ale Vergil cicho westchnął.

- W sumie nic dziwnego, spędziłem z nim naprawdę wiele czasu. Nawet styl walki mamy prawie identyczny– Nero poruszył barkami, zacisnął dłonie w pięści i wykonał kilka próbnych ciosów – Ruchy, sposób wyprowadzania ciosów, to, jak trzymamy miecz...

Zerknął na Vergila i z niejaką satysfakcją zauważył, że ten odłożył książkę i patrzy na niego.

-Niewątpliwie – powiedział wolno ojciec – Dlatego trzeba coś z tym zrobić.

Wstał, zrzucił z ramion płaszcz i sięgnął po leżący nieopodal Yamato. Nero zastygł w połowie ruchu, dopiero po chwili zorientował się, że szczęka lekko mu opadła. Vergil ujął rękojeść katany w obie dłonie, jednak nie wyciągnął ostrza z pochwy. Zmierzył syna od stóp do głów.

-Pokaż, na co cię stać.

Chłopak rozejrzał się w poszukiwaniu swojego miecza, który leżał przy schodach. Czerwona Królowa zalśniła w świetle lampy.

Nie za bardzo wiedział, czego Vergil od niego oczekuje, a swoją zaczepką na pewno nie spodziewał się wywołać takiego efektu. Ale, z drugiej strony, jeśli staruszek chce rozwiązać cokolwiek walką, to kim jest Nero, by mu się sprzeciwiać? Zawinął mieczem ze świstem i bez zastanowienia ruszył na Vergila. Demoniczne ostrze pomknęło ostro po skosie w górę, celując pod pachę Vergila, ale tylko przecięło powietrze, a wyprowadzony z boku kopniak posłał Nero na ścianę.

Chłopak zatoczył się i obrócił błyskawicznie, by w ostatniej chwili odbić sztych. Z okrzykiem skoczył na spotkanie kolejnego ciosu. Miecz i katana spotkały się z trzaskiem. Nero poczuł, jak budzi się w nim demon, a nad barkami zaczęły formować się błękitne, eteryczne skrzydła.

-Schowaj to, chłopcze – warknął Vergil, napierając mocniej i przechylając ostrze tak, że Czerwona Królowa ześlizgnęła się w dół. Kiedy tylko ciało chłopaka podążyło za mieczem, grzmotnął go łokciem w bark, zwiększając impet. Nero z okrzykiem opadł na jedno kolano. Chciał się zerwać, ale dotyk Yamato na szyi – wciąż schowanego w pochwie – kazał mu znieruchomieć. Gdyby ostrze było nagie, już miałby rozpłatane gardło.

-No i co chcesz udowodnić w ten sposób?! – warknął chłopak z wściekłością. Vergil miał niesamowitą technikę, wiedział o tym nie od dziś. Jego ruchy były oszczędne, perfekcyjne, pozbawione jakiegokolwiek efekciarstwa. Uniki wykonywał za pomocą minimum ruchów, a ciosy kataną za każdym razem były obliczone tak, by zabić od razu. Ale jaki cel miał ten pokaz? Upokorzyć własnego syna, zmusić go, by poczuł, jak bardzo jest niedoświadczony? Zbędny?

Nero czuł, jak z wściekłości napinają mu się mięśnie szczęki. Miał dość takiego traktowania. Może i podświadomie chciał sprowokować Vergila, ale nie spodziewał się przemocy. Nie spodziewał się...

-Jest takie powiedzenie: w walce głowa musi być chłodna, a serce gorące – cichy głos Vergila sprowadził go z powrotem. Nacisk na szyi zelżał, ale nie całkowicie. Nero uniósł głowę i napotkał chłodne, badawcze spojrzenie ojca. – Podczas demonicznej przemiany jest to bardzo trudne do osiągnięcia. Ogień wypełnia całe ciało, emocje przeszkadzają w jasnym widzeniu. Walka przeradza się w bezmyślną siekaninę. Zanim zaczniesz walczyć jako demon, naucz się pokonywać innych w ludzkiej postaci. Demon ma ci tylko pomóc w zwiększeniu swojej siły i odporności, ale nie możesz zapomnieć o technice i swojej ludzkiej stronie – Vergil wycofał miecz, cofnął się i westchnął ciężko. Nero odniósł wrażenie, że w geście tym zawiera się o wiele więcej, niż tylko znużenie. Pomny przeszłości ojca, jego próby odrzucenia własnego człowieczeństwa, zdał sobie sprawę z przemiany, jaką ten przeszedł w ciągu ostatnich kilku miesięcy. Przemiany, która jeszcze się nie zakończyła.

W cichych słowach Vergila pobrzmiewała też pewna rezygnacja wynikająca z pogodzenia z sobą. To nie była tylko część nauki, którą chciał przekazać synowi, to było przyznanie się do tego, że przez większość życia tkwił w błędzie. Biorąc pod uwagę, jak dumny jest to człowiek, tego typu zwierzenie musiało przyjść mu z wielkim trudem.

Nero nie wiedział, co na to odpowiedzieć, po prostu tkwił w oszołomieniu. Cisza przedłużała się, aż w końcu chłopak podniósł się i wbił wzrok w plecy ojca.

-Nauczysz mnie tego?

Vergil drgnął. Nero nie był pewien, ale chyba dojrzał cień uśmiechu na twarzy mężczyzny. To był jeden z tych z trudem wywalczonych momentów, kiedy udawało im się osiągnąć jakąś nić porozumienia. Ich relacja wciąż odbiegała od zwykłej więzi między ojcem i synem – Nero wątpił, by kiedykolwiek zbliżyli się do jakiejś normy – ale takie chwile były dla niego bardzo cenne.

-Tak, Nero. Nauczę cię tego i o wiele więcej. – powiedział w końcu Vergil. – A co do tych innych... podobieństw i nawyków.

Oho, pomyślał Nero, zaraz wszystko się zepsuje.

-To zawsze bardziej przypominałeś mi swoją matkę.
