From Secretary to Pro Hero

Hey guys! Long time no see. Sorry. Haven't been in a writing mood as of recently. So here is something for our little icy hot friend. I went down a rabbit hole with our favorite icy hot bastard lol. I got this idea from a Todoroki imagine I read a while back about them hate fucking and this was the inspiration for it. When I find the story, Ill link it.

Knowing her, she will more than likely exaggerate some shit. Sure, enough I get a phone call from the infamous Todoroki himself.

"Carla informed me that you were working on some last minute things. Why would u do that?"

"Because sir, you always do that? Every time you have a meeting, you decide that you want certain things to be in order, right? So, before your meetings, I prep your regular notes and then print out extra notes. Anything else? If not, I'll be there in 45 seconds goodbye" Y/N hung up the phone annoyed. Making her way to the room where the meeting was, she was in for a pleasant surprise. Hawks is your fav. hero and he is also here with Deku and Ground Zero. And nothing could've prepared you for how fine they were in person. Hawks was so damn fine. He stood tall at 6'3, with beautiful crimson wings that stood out like the sunset, golden eyes, and spiky golden blonde hair with red shades that complemented his pale yet toned skin. Showing several tattoos. Deku looked just as good. Scars covered all of Deku's body, spiky black and green hair, and big puppy dog green eyes. He had on a tank top and he had some black joggers on with a black tank and showed his back tattoos as well. Then there was the infamous Ground Zero. Spiky blonde hair, piercing beautiful Crimson eyes, tattoos, and a scar that comes from the left-side of his jawline to his left pectoral chest muscle. They all had earrings in both ears wearing street clothes because Todoroki's father called a quick meeting about a villain attack. They looked so fucking good that it hurts and had my pussy throbbing.

"Hello. Sorry to call you guys in on such a short notice, but we needed to discuss the villain attack that recently happened." Endeavor started.

"There has been a constant focus on attacks in the minority of Japan. We have to figure out a way to combat this. Otherwise, our minority citizens will not trust us to help keep them out of harms way."

You heard they just started and attempted to sneak in to not disrupt the meeting but that was unsuccessful. Forgetting that this meeting room had a squeaky door and you're black so you kind of can't go unnoticed until Endeavor called you out. Now all eyes are on you.

"Y/n, what is your opinion on the issue? We know you're a minority and we want to hear from your perspective of things. I know you were sitting out there listening to the briefing like you always do"

Well shit. Now all eyes are on you and this is your chance to make a name for yourself and actually be useful for once instead of just handling papers n shit all day.

"Well, I think the first thing is to figure out why they're targeting black people. Once you guys figure that out, then you can move forward with trying to make it up to your supporters. After all, you guys were sworn in to protect just like the police and y'all work with them correct?" All eyes were on you. Even the heterochromatic eyes from the infamous Todoroki were staring at you intrigued. You can't even lie, Todoroki looks good just like the other heroes. He had on a white T-shirt with some black joggers and some Nike slides. The shirt was tight enough to see his muscles.

"It would be crucial to make sure that you dont leave your black citizens out because they need you just like the other citizens do as well. Oh, Here are your notes on the matter and Carla gave you the papers from my desk. Does anyone need anything while I am here? Sorry to interrupt."

"Do you have a quirk?" Deku asked?

"What the fuck do you need to know if she has a quirk for nerd?" Ground Zero said.

"I agree" Todoroki mentioned. "What is the purpose of her quirk being known? If she has one."

"Well, I do have one. It's similar to telekinesis. When I just do it, my body produces a dark blue aurora around my body, and my eyes turn dark blue. I have Sai swords, a staff, and fans that I use similar to Mileena, Jade, and Kitana from Mortal Kombat. Idk how, but this blue aurora can also help heal the injured too."

After I explained my quirk, they got so off-topic that they kept staring at me. I left and heard them asking Todoroki how come he hired me as a secretary and not a sidekick. They finished their meeting, and I was in my office packing up. Today was only a half day, so we could wear casual clothes. The heroes were not in today because they had press, they were doing while we stayed behind to make sure they were not double booked and doing sectorial things. As usual, I was the last one to leave even tho it was a half day at the office. As I was gathering my things and cleaning up, I heard my door open and close. Who did I see to my surprise? Our favorite Icy hot bastard. Looking slightly annoyed.

"What the fuck was that?" he asked

"Have you ever heard of knocking? That's number 1. For 2, what the fuck you mean? Deku asked me a question and I answered it. Was I supposed to lie to the man?"

"Because now they voted to have you come for this mission. They found the hide-out and they think you'd be a good asset. Your quirk intrigued them for some reason. Did you do this to spite me?!"

"TO SPITE YOU? YOU THINK I WANNA GO ON THIS MISSION?! I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS UNTIL YOU SAID SOMETHING YOU CUNT. SO HOW IS THIS MY FAULT? But I guess it would be good to show you up in front of daddy's baby huh?" you asked as you knew you struck a nerve. We all know Todoroki is sensitive about his family and what he's gone thru. We all know his father is extremely overprotective after what happened.

"Yes Y/N. To spite me. you have been a pain in my ass ever since you have been hired. Fuck. The only reason you are still here is because you do good work and you make the place structured."

"So, your business would crumble to shit if I was not here basically huh?" as you walked around your desk to meet him halfway..

"Fuck no. This shit can stand on its own. Don't fucking play." he said meeting you halfway as well. Before you know it. he was towering over you. He smelled good. You can give him that. He was 6'2 towering over your small 5'2 frame. I guess the shirt that you wore made him stare because you could clearly see him staring at you in a way you'd never seen.

hey guys, so I’ve finished reading BnHA 342 which was a delight to read, but my reaction post is very, very long and will take some time to edit, so in the meantime I’ve decided to make a separate post just to talk about this one character interaction which I am absolutely obsessed with!

let’s see how long of an analysis I can make about this ONE, SINGLE JOKING REMARK THAT KACCHAN MADE COMPLETELY OFFHANDEDLY.

1. so first off, let’s just cut straight to the heart of the matter: this. is. friendship. no more denial. no more HAH, NO WAY, OF COURSE WE AREN’T FRIENDS NOW WALK BEHIND ME!!! the Kacchan who was too embarrassed and too chuuni to admit that he was friends with Shouto died at Jakku. and the Kacchan who’s been running the show ever since then is someone who openly worries about Shouto (asking about him immediately after waking up in the hospital), unabashedly provides him with emotional support (hand on the shoulder when class 1-A confronted Endeavor), and hangs out with him in his room because he doesn’t want Shouto to be going through all this shit alone.

2. speaking as someone whose own #1 love language is using humor to try and relax people and make them feel comfortable and safe and welcomed and at ease, the fact that Katsuki used a joke as his chosen method of support here brought me SO MUCH JOY I can barely even begin to express it. and it’s not even the first time he’s done this! never forget that one time after Kamino where class 1-A was all bummed after Aizawa told them off for coming to save him, and so he grabbed Kaminari and dragged him into the bushes and made him activate his derp mode in order to ease the tension! and also to distract them so he could quietly pay Kirishima back for the night vision goggles, because that is his OTHER love language (cold hard cash!! nah lol I’m referring to the act of physically, tangibly paying him back; showing his gratitude not just with words but with actions), but yeah.

my point is, for someone who always seems to be so angry and serious, Kacchan has a sharp sense of humor that he apparently just keeps tucked away under wraps, and dusts off only for rare special occasions like these, and I absolutely LOVE it and I need it to happen WAY MORE OFTEN. there is a very real possibility of me making a compilation post of every single time Kacchan has made a joke and/or actually laughed about something, just because I’m that desperate to know more about this expertly dry wit of his now.

3. getting back to his friendship with Shouto, this next talking point is the one that’s already been done to death (because you know I went and looked up all those 342 tumblr reactions and metas after I read this chapter because I needed to soak up that analysis asap), but nonetheless this post would not be complete without it! so this is very obviously a commentary on the fact that Shouto’s favorite food is cold soba! a fact which is known to every single citizen of the world! in fact this joke even takes that last part into account, since it relies on that fact being common knowledge in order to stick the landing! in a way it’s partially a friendly little dig at Shouto for making his favorite food such an important part of his personality! like, “hmm, so what would be the worst case scenario for Touya. well obviously it would be him liking something other than soba, since we all know that’s a deal-breaker.” basically this joke derives a good 60% of its humor from the fact that Shouto just loves soba THAT damn much. and Kacchan is obviously WELL aware of this fact because, as we all know, he and Shouto are actually best friends.

4. quick side note, this is also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it callback to chapter 164, which featured this hilarious interchange between Shouto and his OTHER best friend.

thus adding the additional meta layer that Shouto actually does canonically consider people who like udon to be FUNDAMENTALLY INCOMPATIBLE WITH HIM AS PEOPLE lmao. and Katsuki knows this because he was listening in on that whole conversation and bitching about the two of them being total weirdos! but ALSO he was apparently filing notes away in the back of his big hero brain because he loves Todo actually, so yeah. love it when a scene in a newer chapter retroactively makes a scene from an old chapter even better.

5. lest you worry that Kacchan is back to his OLD VILLAINOUS BULLYING WAYS by poking fun at poor sweet innocent Shouto here, let’s now talk about the ways in which this joke is also a sick burn on Touya! because that of course is the other 40% of the joke! if Shouto’s favorite food is soba, then OBVIOUSLY Touya’s favorite food is going to be the complete opposite of that, because Touya is the worst! just the absolute worst. man fuck that guy!

so there are a couple of additional layers to this part. the first is that Katsuki is very much aware of the delicate balance that needs to be struck here. because he genuinely, unironically DOES know Shouto pretty damn well by now, and so he understands how conflicted Shouto is about his brother. and because he’s a good friend, he’s supportive of Shouto’s desire to somehow redeem Touya if at all possible. and so instead of going all in on how Touya is a founding member of the final villains club WHO BRAGGED ABOUT KILLING THIRTY PEOPLE and who also KIDNAPPED HIM THAT ONE TIME, the worst thing that Kacchan accuses him of here is... having a different favorite food than Shouto. this is basically the gentlest, mildest “fuck that guy” that anyone could have possibly given here.

and then the second bonus layer is that Katsuki is very clearly taking Shouto’s side here. that’s the only possible way for this joke to land. the humor works because Katsuki takes the mundane accusation of liking hot udon, and twists it into a sick fucking burn, because ONLY AN UNHINGED LUNATIC WOULD DARE TO LIKE SUCH A COMPLETELY OPPOSITE FOOD FROM COLD SOBA, THE BELOVED FAVORITE FOOD OF TODOROKI SHOUTO. in other words, if you don’t like Todoroki Shouto’s favorite food, then FUCK YOU! Team Soba all the way! so yeah, it has that connotation too, which is actually very sweet.

6. last but not least, I just want to take a moment to gush about how this was all just perfectly executed and timed. Shouto sets him up for it, and Kacchan pounces on the opportunity without hesitation and delivers the perfect response, which immediately relieves some of the quiet tension in the room, and honest to god actually makes Shouto laugh.

sort of! that was a chuckle at least! it counts!! anyways the point is, Katsuki read the room perfectly and understood that Shouto was trying to lighten the mood and didn’t want to have a heavy conversation about all of his feelings right now (which is something that Katsuki understands very well), so he followed Shouto’s lead and met him at that level, while still managing to communicate (1) “I know how conflicted you are about all of this”, (2) “I’ve got your back”, and most importantly, (3) “we are friends, and I care about you and support you in all things, you big soba loving freak.” it’s affectionate, it’s heartwarming, and it’s genuinely funny as hell.

anyway so yeah, that’s my RIDICULOUSLY, UNJUSTIFIABLY LONG post about what has instantly become one of my all time favorite little throwaway BnHA moments, right up there with the legendary “hey Kacchan!” scene. Kacchan being friends with people. Shouto getting some much-deserved love. Iida and Kirishima being there too, and presumably smiling and taking notes and maybe one day they can tell their children about this. that’s what it’s all about folks.

-Naib is the type of person who sees the appeal in several different personality types, so he’s capable of falling for all sorts. That said, he subconsciously suppresses his romantic interest until the other person makes theirs clear. His line of work scares a lot of people off, so he prefers to play it safe rather than waste his time or risk making someone nervous. As soon as you make a move, though? Naib Suave-edar has entered the chat. I'm sorry I couldn't resist that joke.

-He also intimidates a lot of people with his sheer intensity. Naib has a strong, goal-oriented personality and he doesn’t shy away from things that are ‘embarrassing’. He speaks plainly about his feelings and intentions with you; you’ll never be left wondering where you stand with him.

-He’s so casual about compliments? He could be telling you a story about some place he visited and just drop the most heart-throbby lines. “Before I knew it the sun was coming up, and it was the same gold color that’s in your eyes, and this heron flew up—" And he just moves on like you shouldn’t wanna smother his face with your lips???

-VERY protective of his partner. Not possessive, to be clear. He’s just traumatized a worrywart. In this modern world, he’d want you to always share your location with him, and message him whenever you leave or arrive somewhere. Also, you’d better put him on your emergency contact lists. He wants to get to you ASAP if something happens. This all can be as sweet as it is frustrating, and it will be a long-term struggle in your relationship if you don’t like it. He’d secretly appreciate it if you reciprocated the concern, too. If you ever ask him to do any of the above, he’ll do it without complaint.

-Aside from being afraid of your spontaneous death, he’s fine if you two have to be separated for a while. You’re going on a beach trip with your friends? “Drive safe, love you, remember to respond to my good morning messages and call me at least once a day so I can hear your voice.” As long as you check in a couple times a day, he can control his anxiety.

-He always carries a picture of you. Keeps it folded together with the one of his mother. He’d love if you could meet her someday….

NS/FW

-He’s a switch, but the frequency he takes either role depends on the overall relationship dynamic. If Naib takes the leading role in the day-to-day, that will carry over to the bedroom, and vice versa. If you guys are more independent and rather equal, it’s a pretty even split of him going dom vs sub.

-Naib isn’t considered the wittiest guy around. He likes to banter but he's only good with roasting people. When he does come up with a good, dirty one-liner, it’s somehow only when you’ve got a drink to your mouth. You’re like 70% sure he just likes making you choke. Is this foreplay?

-Completely serious, he's a great kisser. His experience is moderate, but Naib reads body language well and learns fast. Give him just 30 (nonconsecutive) minutes to make out with you, test you, and he's got your weaknesses locked down.

-Naib likes sensation-enhancing stuff in the bedroom. Restraints, blindfolds, ice, and waxplay are all things he’s down for in moderation (giving or receiving). Gags are a hard no. He’s a stickler for having a safe word. If you’re gagged, you can’t use it. So it’s a no-go.

Open-Call for Sims!

Deadline: ASAP, but rolling deadline; I'm itching to work on this story but will always consider working new sims in as they are submitted!

I'm writing a Sims story (A Stranger In Moonwood Mill) about werewolf secrets, angsty slow-burn romance, the literal ghosts of a tragic past, unconventional family structures, found family, and community. It will also go into the in-game lore of Moonwood Mill. It will eventually turn into a generational gameplay. One of my favorite parts of simblr has always been collaborative-style gameplay (like Bachelor Challenges), so I want to open the opportunity to have other ppls sims feature as characters in this story!

DETAILS & HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

Human and werewolf sims only plz! CC allowed, nothing too super realistic ("alpha") though

Sims can be any age, gender, personality, etc

Feel free to give me as much lore as you want, I'd love some direction on how you'd like me to write this character! However, be aware that I may need to tweak lore at times to fit the story.

To the above point, your submitted sim will not be immune to having sad/bad things happen to them, so keep that in mind.

Read up on what I've posted of the story so far to get a feel for it (tagged /moonwoodlegacy on my blog)

I have lore planned out for the first generation, but plan to play this save for several generations afterward, so any sims you submit very well may develop lives of their own!

3-4 sims to be ghosts of a werewolf's past mistakes-- whether that was losing control and being violent, or not being able to save them from illness or another werewolf, or something else

or come up with your own character with unique lore! bonus points for being connected to the history of moonwood mill or its inhabitants

more often than not, those “stories” are just about how much he loves the baby and/or you, and how you’re the world’s greatest parent

you actually like to eavesdrop on those stories occasionally, and Elrond is aware of it and he will just smile to himself and continue talking

if the baby whimpers one time, let alone cries, he will drop everything and pick them up instantly

he loves having things custom made for them, with like their initials and stuff

and don’t even let me started on birthdays and similar special occasions /

Elrond could buy a half of middle-earth for your baby if you don’t stop him

he isn’t the best singer out there but he will sing in a low, comforting your voice to soothe your baby and it works like magic

his fascination triples when they start talking!!! especially if their first word is ‘dad’ or any variation of it

he is totally the parent to have full-on conversations with a child that’s just rambling nonsense

he loves reading to them and he will definitely do voices for different characters

your kid likes just following him around while holding the hem of his cloak as he does things

Elrond will definitely team up with your child to make you surprises on your special days, or just a random breakfast in bed accompanied with the kid’s drawing of unintelligible shapes which represent the three of you as a family

he is very accepting and he is just excited about everything that your child is and wants to be

also among your child’s friends, Uncle Elrond is the absolute favorite

he would be the greatest dad in all of middle-earth and that’s a fact!!!

My thoughts on the characters throughout the seasons on my first watch:

Luther: very very annoying, ew incest, kinda wanted him to die only so the incest plot couldn't happen

Diego: Oh he's cool I like him, and him canonically being semi-verbal? Absolutely love that, me too

Allison: she's sweet, kinda annoying, not the best person but I can see she's trying so I'm going to try to like her, didn't like how she went about the Leonard situation, very worried when she almost died

Klaus: oh I love you, favorite character, best character, you kind of remind me of my friends

Five: you are so interesting I am staring at the screen intrigued, very cool power, but also the mannequin??

Ben: side character, I like his interactions with Klaus

Viktor: you are.. Interesting, however there is too much you and not enough Klaus

Luther: annoyance from last season persevered and I don't trust his interactions with Allison but the scene with the two Fives was really fun

Diego: why the jfk obsession why, also he is a complete dumbass lmao (/endearing)

Allison: I forgive her for the previous season she is top 4, very sweet, I love her and Ray

Klaus: you have been demoted to second favorite but I still love you I swear

Five: you are actively winning me over I have become so attatched you are such a bitter old man who loves his family so much I absolutely adore you

Ben: he is also winning me over, was very near getting really attatched to him at the end of the season and then he fucking died

Viktor: Liking him more now too, he's very sweet, I love him with Sissy and Harlan, the amnesia thing was pretty good, was very nice this season

Lila: not sure how I feel, conflicted, kinda don't like

Luther: fine you win I don't hate you anymore now go dance with your wife, also his reaction to Viktor coming out was so sweet I died, wasn't rlly worried about his death but damn all he wanted was a hug poor guy

Diego: "Do you feel loved? Good, you are" bangs fists on table, crying, screaming, also the whole thing with Stan was very sweet but Diego isn't rlly a good dad, not horrible, but as someone heavily interested in psych and parenting techniques; yikes my guy, you could do better

Allison: Oh her relationship with Viktor is so nice I hope nothing bad happens between them stares at the camera like in the office , also FUCK YOU, the SA was way way too far, completely irredeemable

Klaus: FIVE KLAUS ROADTRIP FIVE KLAUS ROADTRIP, also immortality thank fuck if you died I would have never recovered, all his interactions with Reginald all he wanted was for a good father :(, people need to start listening to him and taking him seriously asap I'm gonna lose it he deserves the world

Five: I would kill for you and your stupid old man outfits, also him being blamed for the apocalypse made my blood boil Five has been trying so hard to keep his family alive and he loves them all so much only to be treated like shit

Ben: I miss Umbrella Ben bring him back why is he such an asshole

Viktor: trans guy swag, all of the coming out scenes warmed my heart, liking his character more, him losing Harlan and Allison treating him like shit :(

Lila: She won me over she is so fun however what she did to Diego with Stan was shit

5 Easy ways to get into cosplaying

Welcome to my first official post! To start off this blog let's explore how to even get started in cosplaying.

Things you should know off the bat about the world of cosplay:

~ Anyone can cosplay no matter their race, gender, or disability, everyone should be able to get into cosplay

~ Under no circumstance should you change your race for a cosplay

~You should not feel pressured to be the "ideal" weight or body type of a character, unless you're cosplaying a monster or an alien you shouldn't feel like you need to drastically change yourself to be "perfect" in fact every cosplay is perfect! ^^

Now that we have established rules, let's learn how to cosplay!

Pick a character

Now this is easier said than done, believe me, but the best way to pick a character is to find a show, movie, or game that you completely love and find a character that you like or resonate with a lot, also dont feel like you can't cosplay a character because you feel like you can't do them justice or you dont look like them, were all here to have fun! for example when I first cosplayed Loki, I felt like i couldn't do them justice because I was short, chubby, and just didn't look like them at all, but when I did cosplay them, everyone loved it and I felt so confident in myself, so lesson of the day, cosplay whoever you want if it makes you happy.

2. Buy or Make

so you picked your character, awesome! Now you need to know whether to buy or make your cosplay, now there's kind of a debate on whether you should buy or make your cosplay and I'm here to say:

it doesn't matter! unless you are going into the masquerade or cosplay contest, buying is not the worst thing you can do, believe me, buying or making your cosplay is completely up to you, whether you don't know how to sew or you need a cosplay ASAP, buying is fine, or if you like the challenge or your character is niche sewing is the way to go.

3. Improve your makeup skills

If you want to cosplay for fun or your cosplays don't need makeup you can skip this part. Still, suppose you want a professional look or want to cosplay a character that doesn't have a normal skin tone you should listen, now depending on your character and where they're from. In that case, your makeup should make sense for them, for example, if your character is girly do a girly makeup look with soft features and pastels for the eyes and lips, if your character is edgy do. Edgy look with dark colors for the lips and eyes, you can even add accessories that you think your character would like, with makeup you can even transform your face, for example, I usually cosplay men. Still, I'm afab and have a naturally soft face, to fix this I do hard contour on my cheeks, I can do a more in-depth post about cosplay makeup if anyone requests it.

4. Prop making

Most characters whether theyre from an anime or game, most likely have a prop with them, whether its something small like a Tesseract for Loki or something huge like a Keyblade for Sora, now like with buying or making your cosplay this applies to your props too, if you want to buy a prop that's fine and if you want to make it that's fine too, it all depends on your character and your skill level, I will say personally that you should have some skills in prop making because depending on how niche your character is a prop for them will most likely be hard to come by, this also applies to the whole cosplay as well.

5. Having fun!

Now this is the most important thing you can do as a cosplayer, having fun and being a good sport, when you first cosplay you'll see people whose cosplay looks great, but it might make you feel small, but the thing is that they most likely started out like you, ill be honest, your first cosplay will not be your greatest one, but having a great cosplay doesn't equal to happiness, what does though is the fact that your cosplaying your favorite character and making friends who also are cosplaying their favorite character, with cosplay comes community and making friends and just connecting over the things we all love is the most important thing you can do

Hi! I saw your event from my friends and after some deliberating (and confusion on some parts), I'd like to join!

I am an INFP-T (9w1), Aries rising and sun, Leo moon. As for what I like, I like writing various things: drabbles, headcannon lists, imagines, and even long fics. I tend to enjoy planning most of my ideas and dumping it to people that I think would be able to judge or add in, especially when it's more serious and (sometimes) a bit darker than what I usually do. I also enjoy reading and drawing, oftentimes too much (as I focus on it more than anything else ;;).

My favorites are Albedo, Kazuha, and Neuvilette. I enjoy these three due to their personalities, aspirations, and their potential.

In how I would describe myself, I'm more of a wildcard. People often say that I'm a gremlin and how "I cannot be left alone for a few minutes" due to my spontaneous nature, but when times get tough, I'm someone they seek comfort for and speak to since I take them seriously. Alongside that, I loathe conflict and enter mostly a fight or flight response, because I want it out asap.

I love spending time with people that can tolerate me and don't mind my spontaneous nature, especially when I hyperfixate on things and then drop it for months. Sometimes, though, I get nonverbal and have a hard time saying no or expressing negatively as I always think they'd be upset if I do. It's a horrible mindset that I'm still trying (and working) to get myself out of.

The aesthetic/s I enjoy are dark academia and fantasy, and it shows with how I sometimes write darker fics that can tip into dead dove territory. A few words that can characterize me would be loyal, wildcard, impulsive, people-pleaser, and stubborn.

If it's possible, may I ask if I can join events 1, 2, and 4? As for character on 2, either Lyney or Furina is okay, I don't mind if you pick either that you prefer writing.

CHILDE !

—childe would get you like nobody else. because he is highly spontaneous and adventurous, but also very empathetic and laid back. from a young age, he has seen how to handle other's around him. while he maybe very reckless with himself, he becomes very cautious about other's safety. this is why you both would get along very well. he would understand and enjoy your leadership skills, spontaneous nature and desire for adventure and would engage in it alongside you, but because he's also cautious, he'll make sure it never goes too far to the point it harms either of you. your underlying desire for emotional fulfillment would come true with as well.

—he would want to be around you because you are as reckless as he is. you both enjoy fun and laughter and you both would love enjoying teasing others. there would be instant attraction here, like magnets attracting each other. the alignment of thoughts would put you both at peace around each other because neither has to hide their impulsive or rebellious and fun loving nature. but in addition to that, he's very good at taking good care of others and pulling them back when they're being excessively obsessed. this would decrease your trouble when you're around him, making you somewhat attached and dependent on him for validation and safety. he wouldn't receive your dependency well, though, and would urge you out of it. he would look out a lot for you and would think of you as a baby gremlin who can't look after themselves. in a way, the kind of affection and acceptance he would give you would be a small example of how he would have desired to be treated as well, but eventually gave up on the desire and chose to look out for others instead.

—there would be elements of sneakiness and breaking rules here. being in detention together, warning each other of toxic people, hyping each other up, sending each other memes at 12 in the night, doing things you both dislike with each other to encourage each other into completing it, working through hard tasks with each other, teaching new skills to each other, exchanging half hearted insults, running through a quiet park at night, supporting and comforting each other when feeling down. you both would share a very cute bond.

KAZUHA !

—while you may be strongly convinced otherwise in a few months of knowing him, kazuha gets wilder the closer you get to him. he has a very dignified attitude ingrained in his personality, an element of grace that cannot be forsaken; in spite of that, kazuha has a secretly fun side to himself which he exposes only when he truly trusts someone. as such, he would definitely find you amusing to be around because you are the stark opposite in your beliefs; you say what you want, you say what has to be said. the straightforward attitude you have will attract him and as they say, opposites attract which would happen here, quite literally.

—if he comes to trust you, which is going to take him a while, he will also expose a very fun side to himself that is fond of breaking rules and living freely. this would catch you off guard because you'd see him more of an unattainable standard, someone whose grace surpasses your reach. but seeing him open up will make you trust him a lot too, and it would strengthen your bond. he would indulge in your fun, but mak sure that a certain line is never crossed. there would be a lot of understanding and gentleness on his side, and admiration and love on yours.

How are you doing? It quite upsets me that you would not try to contact me even though you have been away for a few weeks now. Still, I do not mind; it must be rather busy, with Mond's constant troubles with artillery. Whatever may it be, which is responsible for keeping you from me for so long— I hope that trouble subsides soon so that we can be together once more.

I have something to share with you. A few days ago, as Lynette and I were giving a performance outside, playing with the cards the way we often do, my gaze fell upon a lone kitten, curled in the corner as she seemingly watched the show. I do not know if it was simply a trick of the light, or if her eyes were simply so majestic, but they seemed to shine when I twisted the cards this way and that, purposely staying at the side of the stage where she could spot me.

When the show was to be over, I had intended to leave to meet and greet the kitten, excited about the new audience as I already was. Alas, however—troops of children surrounded me from all sides, and the kitten, frightened of the pandemonium, fled at last. I have no intention to hide my woe from you—heartbroken I was!

Much to my luck, however, only yesterday as I was on my way back to the House of Hearth, I spotted the very same kitten—bluish eyes, dirty white coat—peeping inside Lynette's room through the open window! It was lucky, indeed, that Lynette was busy working on a few tricks at that moment and had not spotted the kitten, and the kitten was busy admiring the show. I gave her milk and a few treats, of course, rushing I went into my room.

I think you know what I'll say next. We have adopted her. I'd rather that you give her a name so I've been calling her my little pie for a while now, I think she's getting a bit too used to it so I've stopped with that.

I won't give you a chance to object, so let's move on. Honestly, I have so many stories to share with you, if only you were here by my side. While I don't mind having to write, stories are told better with lights off and a candle in place; the ambience isn't good enough on a piece of paper.

This is why I won't tell you any more of these silly occurrences and save them for later instead. All you should know, however, is that we have adopted no more pets and Father is quite satisfied with the workings of the place. He'll visit us when the year ends, and I've made arrangements for you to enjoy the day with another friend. I still hope I could join you, or that you could join me, but I think even the sweet thought of you is good enough for me to go on.

You may be curious— Rosseland has a new companion in the kitten. Lynette and Freminet are amazing as usual, under the care of their responsible elder brother. I'd ask Charlotte about her health, but it would put mine in danger. She seems to be in high spirits though. Madame Clorinde dropped by one day and asked me to this package to you. I really wonder what it is ...

Anyways, I think this is enough for one correspondence, and I'll wait until you're free enough to engage my endless, and quite useless, thirst for speaking.

favorite color: I don't have a specific one in mind, but I'm rather fond of black, green and red at the moment.

last song: "About Damn Time" by Lizzo because I'm still somehow now tired of it, even though I basically listened to the instrumental version for the past few days on repeat for ... fandom purposes ;)

last movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark - the first Indiana Jones film that I originally bought as a birthday present for my dad a couple days ago but came to love again for my very own reasons by the end of the first rewatch.

currently watching: Well, there are a few Tatort episodes left on my list, and a friend recommended "The World To Come" on Netflix which seemed quite promising at first glance, so, yay, looking forward to that!

other stuff I watched this year: Jumped on the Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon hypetrain very late (and for fic inspiration purposes at first) and loved it (apart from the infamous butchering of s7/8 of course). Also, still very much in love with "Daisy Jones and the Six". Go and watch that. The characters are awesome. The music is even better. And the enemies to lovers to enemies vibes are just ... yes. Yes, please.

shows I dropped this year: Started with the new season of Heartstopper and got punched in the feels for "you didn't have that kind of social bliss at school and the comparison hurts way too much" reasons. So, thanks, but no thanks, this kinda make-belief world ain't for me anymore, but y'all have fun with it :')

currently reading: Academic stuff that takes way too long to comprehend and that makes me feel guilty for even staring at some normal novel because I should be using my time more wisely, etc etc etc.

currently listening to: That's probably hella weird, but I love the concept of apps that read texts to you out loud. It's a great way to fall asleep to your favourite fanfics, or to find typos in the stories you've written yourself because the automated voice pronounces these words as oddly as they should be, given the faulty spelling. Highly recommending @Voice for that (I think @mistofstars mentioned the app once as well, at least that's how I know of it).

currently working on: countless WiPs that involve Wilhelmine Klemm and ... varying women, also the same old Ludwigshafen stories that will probably follow me into my grave. And lastly ... a best-of edit starring some of my all time favourite comfort characters. That one will probably be finished by January (exact date tba) and be way too long to be posted anywhere, but I'll just label this as self-care then :'D

current obsession/s: Fell in love with Bremen and Hamburg and Münster (the actual cities this time) throughout the last few weeks. And I had so many lovely little moments with random strangers on that trip (shoutout to the lady in the St. Pauli-Fanshop with all her Tüddelkram, to the guy I bought my Krabbenbrötchen from, and to Renate, the old lady on her way to Stralsund who chatted to me on the train for an hour and reminded me very much of a lovely OC by @all-my-worlds-a-stage that I still hold very close to my heart). And I simultaneously loved the fact that I was travelling alone and was completely free to do whatever I wanted. Yes please. Obsessed with these kinds of connections and trips. Want more of them asap. <3

the gathering storm chapter 16-28

EGWENE!!!! EGWENE EGWENE EGWENE this chapter was a masterpiece from start to finish! if i wanted to quote my favorite parts i’d just be typing up the entire chapter. i will note some specific things but rest assured there were many more!

egwene has now been told (by sisters of each respective ajah) that she would be a good fit for yellow, brown, and white, and she herself would’ve wanted to be green. she truly is Of All Ajahs! i remember many books ago when i was thinking of which ajah would best fit her and elayne (regardless of their “i want to be green so i can fuck” motives lmao), i settled on either green or gray for elayne but had too many options for egwene. i do have a soft spot for blue!egwene tho, purely because before starting the books i was CONVINCED she would become blue since the show set her up as mini moiriaine.

egwene offers some wonderful descriptions of rand. first she says that were she in elaida’s shoes, she would’ve asked TDR’s friends and neighbors about him. “is he a man of temper, a man of passions? or is he a calm man, careful and cautious? was he the type to spend time alone in the fields, or did he make quick friends of the other youths? would you be more likely to find him in a tavern or a workshop?” and then she says that rand is all of these things. she adds that he is a rational person, “if somewhat bullheaded at times” and “a good man at heart.” ❤️❤️ this really is such a contrast to what a little shit rand was about egwene earlier in the book.

she says that her next step would be “to send sisters to him to offer guidance,” and if he rejected them, she would “send spies and watch to see if he has changed from the man i once knew.” it breaks my heart how bad the rand-aes sedai relationship is because it Could Have Been solid early on, if someone like egwene who knows and understands rand had been in charge of reaching out to him from the start and if elayne and nynaeve had been sent with the stupid caemlyn embassy as they should’ve been. but of course, from rand’s perspective the sisters egwene sent to offer guidance would come off as trying to control him and her spying on him to see if his character has changed would also feel invasive, so maybe it wouldn’t have ended up all that much better. elayne and nynaeve going with the stupid caemlyn embassy would definitely have fixed things though. but the narrative wanted fucking MIN to go instead of elayne (who was forbidden from going by the aes sedai by some ass backwards logic that tried and failed to convince me that the aes sedai would not want to send elayne to caemlyn asap so they could leverage both her claim to the throne and her favorable relationship with rand). and it DID have to be instead of and not in addition to because if rand had been reunited with elayne at that point in the story they would’ve resumed their stone of tear kisses and he would’ve been like “min who?” lmao

egwene argues that rand hasn’t wreaked havoc, but has “managed to restore order to cairhien, unite tear and illian beneath one ruler, and presumably has gained the favor of andor as well” and has “gained [the aiel’s] respect” (she gets offended when the sisters say the aiel have been subjugated, a sweet little reminder of egwene’s Aiel Heart). “rand al’thor is like a river. calm and placid when not agitated, but a furious and deadly current when squeezed too tightly. what elaida did to him was the equivalent of trying to force the manetherendrelle through a canyon only two feet wide.” again, egwene just Gets him and is willing to see the best in his actions! at least right now - when they were actually together back in tfoh/loc she WAS misjudging him a lot.

egwene says that greens “can be very like reds in many ways” (in this case, stubbornness) which is interesting and something i love to see since usually those are portrayed as the 2 polar opposite ajahs, because one Loves Men and the other Hates Men and as we know opinions on men are the most important characteristic for an all-women group to organize itself around.

RAND YOU ARE SO FUCKING STUPID (DEROGATORY NOT AFFECTIONATE!!!)

“he doubted the queen of andor would welcome him with open arms, after the rumors about him and that blasted red eagle banner.” ooh are we For Real setting up for a perrin-elayne conflict? that’ll be interesting since they’ve never once interacted before and may not have even met besides in passing (if they do meet up in the future, i’ll be interested to see if one or both of them mentions anything about having met at the stone back in TSR). if only mat had been given the raising manetheren plot (i mean he WAS the one initially given the connection with his red eagle battle cries in eotw), then he could’ve resolved it by pulling a political-marriage-to-real-love with elayne and combining their kingdoms 😌

tangent but this is related to something i was thinking just the day before i read this part: of all the main characters, perrin would be by far the easiest to remove from the story (well, bar min, whom i do not count as a main character because she contributes nothing). embarrassingly easy, in fact! push the two rivers plotline to LOC and send mat and the band off to there from caemlyn instead of to salidar, and that plotline’s covered. have the shaido fully dealt with at dumai’s wells, and that plotline’s covered. and perrin has not yet contributed anything else that major that i can think of lmao

and now perrin is finally deciding to figure out his wolf connection and The Wolf Dream once and for all. should this not have been your plotline and character arc all along jkdjfg what have you been DOING my guy? (also i’ve always adored how he calls it The Wolf Dream it’s so wholesome and i hope he never learns the word tel’aran’rhiod)

tuon’s horrible entitled worldview would be an interesting read if she were a) a villain, whom b) i knew would either be vanquished or would change her ways by the end. but since i know the narrative will continue to treat her as a relatively sympathetic character who will never be challenged or forced to change her outlook in any real way, it’s infuriating and frustrating. and like, the fact that she can have all these thoughts about channelers needing to be leashed and not ONCE even ALLUDE to any conscious or even repressed fear that she herself can channel. what even was the fucking point of making her able to channel if it changes NOTHING???

i listened to eotw entirely on audiobook and assumed it was “mountains of doom” and when i opened tgh and saw on the map that it was actually “mountains of Dhoom” i laughed my fucking ass off. favorite wot place name for sure (aside from malden)

“min didn’t want him to be hard. he didn’t want to frighten her, of all people.” FRIGHTEN her, like she’s a delicate little baby deer, not “worry her” or “make her concerned for her partner” or something like that. min is SUUUUUUCH a damsel, that is her entire purpose in rand’s story, and we will see this VERY CLEARLY later in the chapter. prepare for my rage because it is coming.

lews therin says that they do indeed need to break the seals. he says that “something has to touch [the dark one], something to close the gap” but saidin alone didn’t work because he was able to taint it. rand wonders if saidin and saidar together might do the trick. HMMMM now that the last battle is finally imminent i’m very curious about HOW rand will defeat the dark one. how can you defeat some nebulous force that lives in a volcano??

“a home he would never see again, for a visit would only alert his enemies to his affection for it.” so why is min with you 24/7 then? “he had worked hard to make them think he was a man without affection.” so why is min with you 24/7 then? “mountains. mountains like duty. the duty of solitude in this case” so why is min with you 24/7 then? “at times, rand longed for tam’s voice, his wisdom. those were the times when rand knew he had to be the most hard, for a moment of weakness - a moment running to his father for succor - would destroy nearly everything he had worked for. and it would likely mean the end of tam’s life as well.” so why is min with you 24/7 then? “he was alone. he needed to be alone. relying on anyone would risk being weak when he reached shayol ghul.” so why is min with you 24/7 then?

like ugh. even my personal dislike of the ship aside, it is UTTER NONSENSE for rand to push everyone else away but let min stay! for him to think about how isolated and hard he is and then have loving sex and snuggles with his girlfriend every night! IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!!! and it completely undercuts his self-isolation arc!

anyway, rand thinks a bit about the bubble of evil-induced fire and has NO thoughts about aviendha the whole time, when she’s the one who put it out and he saw her doing it. in fact, in this hugely emotionally pivotal chapter for him, he doesn’t have a single thought about her or elayne whatsoever, it’s just min min min min min (i mean yeah obvs min is the focus during the upcoming trauma, but in this early part of the chapter during his brooding about how Alone he has to be it would’ve been so easy to slip elayne and avi in there). what the fuck is even the point of giving him 3 girlfriends if the narrative is going to completely forget he’s dating 2 of them most of the time???

twice in this chapter rand thinks of min as the only person who never plays games with him and i have to laugh. remember when she spent half of LOC sitting on your lap and kissing you and sitting in on your baths and messing with your head to try and make you be into her all the while insisting she was only doing all these things as a game? he also thinks of her as the only one he can look to for honesty, when she CONSTANTLY lies and withholds info from him, or tries to. here he gets upset about cadsuane using min to get to him and min talking about him to cadsuane behind his back, and i’m like, oh, am i supposed to think this is rand being overly paranoid? because from my perspective that’s EXACTLY what’s been going on! i forget if cadsuane knows about min’s viewing that she’ll help rand and is deliberately taking advantage, but even if she isn’t, min IS the SOLE REASON rand has let cadsuane be around him at all, and she DOES talk to cadsuane about him behind his back (and reveals to her sensitive personal info that rand wouldn’t want her to know - his box trauma and the 3-way warder bond) and then doesn’t tell rand about those conversations.

semirhage comes in and puts the male a’dam on rand and forces him to hurt min. WHY THE FUCK IS MIN WITH YOU 24/7??????? AAAAARRRRRGHHHH THIS IS NOW THE THIRD (3RD) OF RAND’S MAJOR TRAUMAS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF MIN HADN’T BEEN THERE!!!! to recap 1) rand only got kidnapped by the tower because min misconstruing her fear that the caemlyn aes sedai were the ones who would harm him as a Viewing Fact made rand flee to cairhien, 2) rand only lost his hand because he couldn’t jump out of the way of the fireball because min was behind him, even though he’d asked her not to come to the meeting because it might be dangerous but she’d insisted on coming anyway, and now 3) rand almost kills min because she is plastered to his side 24/7, right fucking there alone in the bedroom with him perfectly positioned for semirhage to make him hurt her because HE PUSHES EVERYONE AWAY TO PROTECT THEM BUT KEEPS MAKING INEXPLICABLE EXCEPTIONS FOR MIN!!!! AND NOW LOOK WHAT HAS HAPPENED!!!!!

okay, also, “he imagined [semirhage] using him to tear through the ranks of his own men, he imagined them afraid to attack, lest they harm him.” all this is going on and rand does not spare ONE THOUGHT for the fact that his other girlfriend is somewhere in the vicinity and semirhage might make him hurt her as well!!! i fucking HATE IT HERE!!!!

and do you really expect me to believe that avi wouldn’t sense through the bond that rand is in extreme danger and emotional distress and come running to see what’s going on??? i call bullshit!!

i mean honestly it would’ve taken a TINY tweak to make avi AND min BOTH be here during this scene!! it would’ve been double the angst!! and then maybe we could’ve had some much needed min and avi bonding afterwards since they’d shared a traumatic experience!! what a waste!!!

why does avi call min by first name alone in her narration but not rand??? it makes no sense! min is a stranger to her and rand is her boyfriend and warder! not that you would know it from this book.

“his fight had left him scarred in ways she did not yet understand” UGH avi never gets let in on ANYTHING that happens in rand’s life! min does come to her seemingly with the intention of talking to her about what happened, but gets put off by avi saying that rand’s problems are his own to deal with..........which she only says because she has no idea what those problems are and how bad they are, because no one ever bothers to tell her anything about them! if min had just been like “okay i get that, but he went through MAJOR trauma last night and was forced via male a’dam to almost kill me” then avi would CERTAINLY have changed her tune and wanted to help! ugh!!! just when it seems like avi might finally be allowed to be part of her own relationship, the narrative goes “sike” and takes that opportunity away again to ensure that it’s only rand and min!

“‘rand al’thor will deal with his problems,’ she said. ‘how can you say that?’ min asked, glancing at her. ‘can’t you feel his pain?’ ‘i feel each and every moment of it,’ aviendha said through gritted teeth.” this feels like such a moment of min believing herself to be/implying that she is The One Real Partner Who Truly Knows And Loves Rand and i’m glad avi set her down

rather than talking to avi about the shit that went down, min just goes “i still worry sometimes that we’ll...come to a confrontation” “i have to admit, i don’t much like the idea of sharing” girl your shared boyfriend has had a complete mental breakdown and was forced to almost kill you, and all you care to discuss with your co-girlfriend is the fact that you still don’t want her in the relationship??? PRIORITIES. LEARN SOME.

min’s like so if i don’t want to share rand, and if you don’t want to share rand (avi notes in her narration that she only doesn’t want to share him with someone she doesn’t know, ofc) then what do we do? and avi says “we continue as we have. you have what you wish, and i am occupied by other matters. when it becomes a different time, i will inform you.” rubbing salt in the wound that min has what she wishes, unlimited unshared Rand Time, and avi is having her time wasted by other things! the harem vibes are sooo strong in this convo and it really contrasts the avi-elayne dynamic, when they would talk about rand together and how much they both loved and missed him and what sorts of kissing techniques were their favorite, and all the times when they said or thought that having the other woman there to miss and love rand with them was such a comfort and blessing, vs. avi and min basically going “you get custody of rand for now, drop him off at my house next weekend for when it’s my turn”

i’m not even speaking just from my own personal opinions when i say that removing min from the polycule would make everything better. narratively, so many things would make so much more sense! elayne/rand/avi is a perfect dynamic where all 3 sides of the triangle have their own unique and meaningful relationship, even if we keep avilayne platonic (but why would we), whereas min constantly feels like an awkward, shoehorned-in outlier because her relationships with avi and elayne are so underdeveloped (basically nonexistent). and since elayne and avi both have plotlines and duties separate from rand, he can effectively push them away To Protect Them and self-isolate, whereas min also being his girlfriend and not having anything else to do but stick by his side causes double standards and logic issues and lessens the effectiveness of his self-isolation arc.

awww avi says that “amys had been a second mother to her in many ways” ❤️❤️❤️ fueling my vague headcanon that, since we’ve never heard a peep about her parents, she was orphaned young and raised by amys, lian, and rhuarc (since lian is her aunt). i remember that around tsr i kept thinking rhuarc was aviendha’s dad and then being like “no wait i’m just making that up” lmao

we get two (2) almost interactions between avi and rand this chapter: first rand sees her at a distance and waves, but she turns away from him and continues on her way, and second avi smiles at him from a distance but he’s looking in a different direction and doesn’t see her. AND THEN SHE FUCKING LEAVES FOR RHUIDEAN!!! THEY WERE IN THE SAME PLACE FOR MAYBE A MONTH AND 400 PAGES AND THEY LITERALLY NEVER INTERACTED!!!!!! I AM ENRAGED honestly what was even the POINT of sending avi to arad doman if her relationships with rand and min weren’t going to get any real development? why not just have her “doing useless tasks until she snaps at the wise ones and they welcome her as one of them” plotline take place in caemlyn? elayne could have easily been the one to push her to snap at the wise ones instead of min, and amys & co could’ve Traveled to caemlyn for any number of reasons so that they (instead of monaelle) could’ve then been there to oversee this final step of avi’s training. maybe rj would’ve intended to do more with avi being in the same location as rand and min, but i don’t know.

shemerin (de-shawled aes sedai who escaped the tower and went to bryne’s camp) mentions that she escaped via “a small watergate.” i hope this is foreshadowing a lil heist where gawyn and siuan sneak into the tower to rescue egwene!!!! since it mentions that siuan is the one who asked for details on how she got out of the tower, and ofc gawyn would not let an Egwene Rescue Heist leave without him. i need more heists! have we had any good heists since mat breaking into the stone? oh i guess mat’s escape from ebou dar was also heist-y, except most of it was just mentioned in a flashback and not actually shown onscreen. yes i’m still mad about that.

however, mat immediately follows this up with “well, at least mat wasn’t near him. count your fortunes in that, mat told himself. life hadn’t been so easy lately, but he could have been stuck near rand. sure, rand was a friend. but mat didn’t mean to be there when rand went insane and killed everyone he knew. there was friendship, and then there was stupidity.” i’m calling this a true sanderson-only Doing Dirty Of Mat occurrence, rather than one that rj started in the past couple books. this feels straight from the pages of the dragon reborn, mat hasn’t had nearly such harsh thoughts about rand in a LONG time. in fact, he implied in WH that he was planning to go back to rand (something along the lines of “if rand was in trouble, mat couldn’t do anything about it from here. first he had to get out of ebou dar.”) and again in..........either COT or KOD i forget (he was planning to bring aludra to rand because her dragons would help him). and him now suddenly declaring that he plans to stay away from rand for the foreseeable future is a major change from what we last heard! but mat does acknowledge that they will have to fight together at the last battle, at least.

“mat shook his head, dispelling the vision. burn you, rand. leave me alone.” once again mat is so much more fussed about and struggling with the rand visions than perrin has ever been. he’s soooo desperate to stop thinking about rand because he does it constantly!

“we’ll go back and pretend things are like they once were!” “i don’t know if that’s possible, lad.” “sure it is.” “oh? you’re going to go back to thinking that old thom merrilin is the wisest, most well traveled man you’ve ever known? you’ll play the gawking peasant again, clinging to my coat every time we pass a village with more than one inn in it?” 😭😭😭😭😭😭 MY HEART!!!! i consider WOT a “read the whole thing once and then never again in my life” type of series but i just might have to go back and reread the Great Cauthor Roadtrip someday for the nostalgia 😭 i’m thinking about rand and mat clapping their hands over their ears when they got to caemlyn because the big city noise was so overwhelming and am receiving physical damage!

i loved this whole chat between mat and thom! late series mat is at his best when he’s not interacting with, in the presence of, or thinking about any women lmfao (with the problem always being mat, not the women. except when the woman is tuon, then the problem is 60% her 40% mat.)

i do feel a difference in writing style more strongly in mat’s povs, especially in dialogue - mat’s dialogue and narration was always the most informal in rj’s books too, but sanderson’s version of that feels even more informal still. and a lot of mat’s and talmanes’s banter in this book feels............more bro-y is the only adjective i can come up with to describe the sense i’m getting jkfghj

spooky groundhog day town where everyone goes crazy murdering each other at night and then wakes up fine the next morning with only nightmares of what happened. wondering what the purpose of this incident is. only as a one-off episode to illustrate the dark one’s growing touch on the world, or will mat and/or the rest of his party experience long-term consequences? the mayor says that all other travelers who’ve been there at night end up getting pulled into it too and stuck there, but mat and co SEEM to have escaped unscathed........i’m coming down on the side of “one-off episode to illustrate dark one’s growing touch” because it is FAR too late in the series to introduce a new plotline where mat and co are cursed to become groundhog day zombies lmao

when joline almost hits mat with a fireball: “bloody ashes! what do you think you’re doing?” “cauthon?” “who do you bloody think it is!” “i don’t know! you came around so quickly, weapons out. are you trying to get killed?” “we’re trying to rescue you!” “do we look like we need rescuing?” “well, you’re still here, aren’t you?” i’m mad because if you just took the misogyny and the spanking and the mat-almost-letting-tuon-keep-her-collared-because-he-thinks-she’s-annoying out of mat and joline’s dynamic, they would’ve had such fire enemies to lovers potential. honestly i would forgive so much if joline just got to spank mat in retaliation. i need that to happen. but, actually, continuing the trend of “rj booting main characters out of roles and creating new minor characters to fill them less effectively,” joline’s kinda just filling elayne’s role in mat’s life as the ~arrogant~ aes sedai he’s always bickering with and complaining about yet also can’t stop thinking about how pretty she is. and now i am also thinking about elayne spanking mat, which is another thing i need to happen.

while a wounded band member is being Healed: “it made [mat] shiver as he imagined the one power leaking out of her and into the man. that was almost as bad as dying, bloody ashes but it was!” why under the light mat’s arc wasn’t him coming to terms with the power via his close connections with channeler loved ones, elayne and nynaeve and egwene and rand, i will never understand. just when that arc was getting off the ground in ACOS, it was cut off at the knees and sent veering back into the opposite direction! into a character regression of mat’s anti-channeler prejudices being enforced by his relationship with someone who enslaves channelers, rather than challenged by his relationships with channelers! deeply unsatisfying narratively speaking.

mat has a vision of rand asleep in bed with min curled up beside him. ARE YOU FUCKING TELLING ME THAT RAND IS STILL CARRYING OUT HIS “PUSH AWAY EVERYONE BUT MIN” DOUBLE STANDARD AFTER HE ALMOST KILLED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS NEAR HIM????? WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK WHY HAS THAT INCIDENT NOT CHANGED HIS MIN-RELATED BEHAVIOR IN ANY WAY???? WHY IS HE STILL LETTING HER SLEEP ALONE AND UNPROTECTED NEXT TO HIM??? WHY DID HE NOT TRY TO OPEN A GATEWAY TO CAEMLYN AND TOSS HER RIGHT THROUGH TO PROTECT HER FROM HIMSELF??? i don’t necessarily WANT rand to hate and blame himself to that extent, but given the way his entire character and personality is, you would think that this is how he would behave in the aftermath of almost killing a loved one!!

and next chapter begins with a map, so i’m thinking we’re about to switch gears and this is a good place to end this recap! truly so much harder a decision with all this plotline-hopping
