I completely disregarded my homework to read Ana on the Edge, and that was a fantastic decision. My teachers may disagree but that's not important. I read it in two sittings (it would be one, but I had to go eat :/) and enjoyed it a lot. It was really sweet and almost made me cry on multiple occasions because of how much Ana resonated with me. The portrayal of all these experiences- frustration of trying to figure out who you are, how it can be at odds with other things you want from life, not knowing how to be honest with your family and friends- was really relatable and I felt like I was being punched (but in a fun way). A very nice bonus was the complete lack of romance! That was great. And it was awesome to see a book that was unapologetically queer and unapologetically Jewish at the same time. Overall 10/10 would recommend

2023 Reads: Ellen Outside The Lines by A.J. Sass!

Genre: Fiction: Contemporary Age level: Middle grade Format: Novel

Summary: Follows thirteen-year-old Ellen, who's determined to use a school trip to Barcelona as a means to repair her and her best friend's now-distant friendship. As the story continues and things veer off her planned path, Ellen has a very unique coming-of-age as an autistic teenager during a time where everything is changing. 

Thoughts: This is honestly such a sweet book!! Ellen is probably the best autistic rep I've read in a middle grade book so far; she's a very well-rounded, believable character, and her struggles were portrayed in a very heartfelt way. She's also very explicitly Jewish!! Like it's actually a pretty important part of her character imo, which is super neat. There are plenty of queer characters(including Ellen herself) and I really enjoyed how the conflict between her and her best friend was handled. I think the whole cast was just very solid.

I could honestly go on about this book forever haha- but I 100% recommend it, even if you don't usually read middle grade. Every time I read a good middle grade I'm filled with hope for the future. The only other thing I've read from Sass was his short story in "This is Our Rainbow", but I have their recent release book they co-wrote with Nicole Melleby on my shelf right now, and I feel semi-confident recommending his other work too.

My rating: 5/5! Trigger warnings: Ableism, forced outing, challenged transphobia. Representation: Jewish MC + SCs, gay SC, ADHD SC, Non-binary + queer SC, queer + gender questioning MC.

Day in the life blurb maybe? of Mat and ModelReader!

Warnings: cuss words and alludes to sex

“Mat, baby. Your alarm,” you groan, a hand smacking at his bare chest to wake him up.

“Shush,” he mumbles, pulling you into his chest.

“You have to get up, baby. I love you,” you say in a sigh, already falling back to sleep in his warm arms.

“I love you,” your husband feathers a chaste kiss to your lips before trudging out of bed.

It feels like ages later when you finally wake up, but you know it’s only been around half an hour because you can hear Mat moving through the closet. You force yourself out of bed and throw on Mat’s discarded shirt and make your way over to him. He’s barely getting dressed, so you deem it the perfect time to love on him.

“Good morning, pretty girl,” he says, smiling at you when you place a warm hand on his back.

“Hi, do you want me to make you some coffee?” You ask, crowding yourself into his back and pressing a few kisses on his spine.

“I can do it, baby. You look beautiful,” he turns and grins, looking at your sleepy expression.

“No, you do,” you shove your face into his chest, sneakily smacking his ass.

“Look at you, my pretty girl. You look just like daddy,” you coo to Sloane as she’s propped up against your thighs.

Her little hands hold onto your thumbs and her dimpled smile makes your heart melt. She’s getting so big already, at almost 7 months and she’s the healthiest, happiest baby ever. She’s also starting to look more like Mat as the minutes pass.

“Mommy!” You hear the front door open and Nolan’s shout paired with his fast footsteps.

“Hi, baby. Oh my! Don’t you look handsome? All of my boys look so handsome,” you say, earning a shy smile from Nolan and a laugh from Mat who’s carrying Angel.

They spent the day shopping for hockey gear for Nolan, and they even went to go get haircuts- except Mat. Thank god.

“Thank you, mommy! Kiss?” Nolan leans into your side, lips puckered exaggeratedly.

“Mwah,” you give a smacking kiss.

“What do I need to do to get a kiss?” Mat asks, rocking a tired AJ.

“Just bring your sexy self over here,” you sass, tilting your head to the side with your devious smile.

He quickly dashes over to you, expertly leaning down without causing any casualties to the kid in his and in your arms, and seals his lips to yours.

You smile against his lips, a little airy giggle leaving your lips as the butterflies swarm inside your stomach.

“So, I was thinking we can order in tonight and just have a family movie night,” he whispers into the skin of your cheek.

“Sounds like a plan,” you whisper back, laughing when Sloane starts to reach out for her daddy.

“Switch?” He asks.

“Give me my little man,” you take Angel and he takes Sloane.

Sloane immediately attaches her mouth to his broad shoulder, trying to teeth on him.

“This is all she wants me for,” your husband exasperates, watching in bewilderment as Sloane leaves his shirt wet.

“Well at least she isn’t biting your boobs,” you point out, cuddling AJ into your chest.

“True. I’m so sleepy today. I just want to take a nap,” he sighs, lying down on the large couch, his head on your thigh.

“Take one, baby. I could use one, too now that Sloane is waking up extra early.”

You run your fingers through his hair and watch as he gets Sloane to peacefully fall asleep on his chest. You feel so lucky to be able to see Mat be the best daddy.

“I want cuddles!” Nolan whisper-shouts, looking at you with his puppy eyes.

“Come here handsome,” you beckon him over and he cuddles into your empty side, mirroring his father.

“Nolan, Angel, I need you guys to listen to mommy and sit at the table,” Mat uses the softer version of his dad voice to get the boys seated while he plates everyone’s food.

Nolan immediately pauses and gathers Angel to get them both seated. You sneakily smile, thinking it’s kind of hot to see Mat be all authoritative.

“Thank you, babe,” he sets down your plate in front of you with a glass of water right next to it. You tilt your head back and pucker your lips for a kiss.

“No need. I love you,” your husband says against your lips, making you giggle like a little kid. You loved when he did that.

“I love you.”

“Do you want me to hold Sloane so you can eat?” He settles down at the table himself, helping Nols and AJ simultaneously. You watch how his muscles flex under the material of his shirt when he reaches over to help your babies.

You’re going to need the babies to go down at their bedtime and no later. You had a nagging craving for your husband, and you know he’ll take all night to give it to you. You clench your thighs and shake your head, willing your desires to go away for now.

“Babe?” Mat snaps you out of your thoughts of what he’ll do to you once in bed.

“Sorry. No, it’s okay. I’ll hold my girl,” you answer, picking up Sloane and lifting her in the air to get her to giggle.

“Any hot gossip today, baby?” You snort back a laugh at Mat’s question. You love how he’s always wanting to know what’s going on in your friends’ lives, but you do find it funny sometimes. He gets so into it. He's your best friend.

“Yeah, mommy, what’s the hot ossip?” This time you let your laugh bust from your mouth.

Nolan has been in a copying phase. Anything you or Mat say, he’ll eventually say or try to say.

Nolan even copies the sassiness that Mat displays. A flick of the hair and an eyebrow cocking up as they wait for you to spill.

“Bev called me to tell me how one of our ‘friends’ was talking about us behind our back. She literally caught them when they went out. I’m so glad I wasn’t there, because I wouldn’t have been able to stop myself from saying something,” you tell them -more Mat than Nolan- and your husband looks at you like you’ve grown two heads.

“What’s her name? Umm… Carmen?”

“Yup! It was Carmen. I can’t believe she had the audacity,” you get heated all over again.

“That’s messed up. After we invited her into our home! What an asshole!” Mat gasps, looking angry and you totally get it.

It’s crazy how fake a person can be.

“Asshole!”

“Aaahole!”

You snap your head to both your boys, eyes popping out of your head at their words. You smack Mat’s arm when you hear him laugh.

“Nolan and Angel, you know you are not to say the words that daddy says,” you berate them. Usually they’ll look down, because they know they’re in trouble but not this time.

“Aaahole,” Angel repeats, which sets off Nolan.

“Asshole!” Nolan says, this time hesitant but still with a devious smile.

“Sorry, baby. They’re probably hyped on the sugar I gave them while they were getting their haircuts,” Mat finds it the perfect time to tell you that bit of information. A wince is etched into his face and you just slap a hand on your forehead.

So much for getting them to bed on time.

hello!! out of curiousity, do u have any voice headcanons for the nextgen kids?

OKAY SO last time this question was asked I didn’t have answers but now I have a few!!! It’s been a bit of a struggle to find voices for some of my guys but I do have ideas on their voice profiles so I’m open to suggestions on who would be good…

Azura- I’ve really fallen in love with the concept of AJ Michalka (Stevonnie, Catra spop) being her voice- I think Azura would have a scrappy cute voice that’s still unique to her that fits in with her family, and it would be very cute to have a VA who’s iconic for voicing queer cartoon characters be the voice for the kid of two of the biggest history makers in Disney…. Shes so cute

Bronwyn- Bronwyn at her core is a musician and her struggles with anxiety and panic disorders are a huge part of her character- I feel like her voice would be that of someone who could connect with her and play a soft voiced “mature” girl with a passion for singing and songwriting, so I settled on her being voiced by Mitski, the singer we all know and love. I think she would be able to bring a lot of life to her.

Juno- Juno being a trans girl is very important to her character and I would want a transfem to voice her, but when there’s transfem characters in media they’re almost always portrayed with higher “passable” voices from what I’ve seen. I want her voice to be a little deeper to represent girls who have those voices, and I think her sense of style and humor would come through well with iamblizzymcguire/blizzabella, A transfem nyc based comedian and model who I love. She’s so unique and sillay and I adore her

Now!!! Voice profiles for the guys I don’t have specific ideas for!

Hyacinth- at first I thought of him being voiced by Alex Lawther who plays younger Philip in canon, but he’s 1) British and 2) his voice is a bit more mature than I would like. Part of Hyacinth and how he differs from Philip is that he’s a lot smaller, and while I wanna have a voice for him that’s still in that “tenor range head voice that’s very in the nose and has a soft cadence,” I don’t think Lawther could do that. I would want someone similar and who isn’t British so I could imagine it better…

Mittens- I think mittens would have a tiny voice that’s also more masc, not so much scratchy and raspy but like. Little guy. Y feel me

Calcifer- honestly I’m not sure how to describe what I hear for them- they give me a vibe of a very cute and polite little kid who’s able to get Sillay???? They’re excitable and they tend to infodump………

Bramble- at first I thought I had a voice for him- that voice being Andrew Kishino who voices the character his design is based off of (Kevin from Steven universe) but Kish’s voice is way too mature for an angsty 14 year old trans boy. I do want his voice to be on the deeper and softer side with a good amount of sass though.

Briar- I don’t really know what to do for her since she’s still kinda new ….

If you had the opportunity to have some voice actors casted for your iterations of Lois, Clark, Jimmy, Connor, Lex, Livewire, Rudy, and Brainiac (Basically the superman characters you've remixed so far) who would be perfect casting for each?

OOH YES here's some fancasts for my remix:

David Corenswet as Clark Kent! This is a really hard pick for me, I'm attached to Tim Daly's STAS voice for him but if I had to pick someone younger I guess this David Corenswet guy from the upcoming film looks pretty good? At least from clips I've seen of him he's got a good voice.

Brianne Tju as Lois Liando! She's a Chinese Indonesian actress and while she's young I think she's got the range. I'd love to see her twist on Dana Delaney's STAS performance because Delaney's got a fantastic hardened sassy woman voice. Tju's voice sounds great in this interview.

Haley Tju as Lucy Lane! Brianne has a sister which is PERFECT for Lois' sister Lucy! I heard Hayley's voice in Arlo the Alligator Boy as the tiger cat character and I think she sounds neat.

Michael J Woodard as Jimmy Olsen! Similarly as Haley I heard Woodard's voice on Arlo the Alligator Boy, he's the lead there as Arlo. His voice is high energy and fun! Plus he can SING which is great because I imagine Jimmy as a jack of all trades artist and shenanigans coupled with musical numbers would be perfection.

Dave Fennoy as Lex Luthor! This is locked and loaded for me. It frustrates me that no one has seen the vision here. This is the second coming of STAS Lex but BETTER. Just!! Listen to him as Bluebeard from the Wolf Among Us. This is phenomenal, the perfect voice already exists.

Toks Olagundoye as Lena Luthor! She's voiced Martha Wayne in Batman Unburied, and Cat Grant in Reign of Supermen among many roles. She'd bring the elegance Lena would need. I love her accent,,,

Donald Glover as Conner Kent/Luthor! Granted I would love a teen that can bring what he brought to Marshall Lee on Adventure Time but that performance is the Conner energy I want.

Gr33dyjay/Jhas Ean Prescott Corbitt as Rudy Jones/Parasite! While I love the Brion James' STAS voice for Parasite, I have become attached to Gr33dyjay's take on my version of Parasite. If you can bring a performance that can make me laugh like that, you're golden. If he brought just a bit of New York accent into it, even better.

ProZD/Sungwon Cho and Ellen McLain as Brainiac! I want these two to talk interchangeably and in synchronization for Brainiac. Cho serving Brau1589 realness and McLain bringing the GlaDOS good stuff. Heaven would open its gates if we ever heard a Brainiac voice like this, I believe that.

Nicole Sullivan as Livewire! This one is so, so difficult because the original Lori Petty voice for Livewire is essentially perfection. I think future takes need to find a distinct and youtuber bombastic charismatic voice for making a potentially unlikeable character fun to watch. Sullivan famously voices Shego on Kim Possible, and I think her voice has the uniqueness and sass that could revitalize Livewire. She just needs to do a version of the accent and energy.

AJ Michalka as Kara Zor El! I know Michalka's voice as Stevonnie on Steven Universe and Catra from She-Ra. I like her performance in both, it stands out and the lil rasp in her voice adds something. That gives Kara that kind of jaded world weary but still young voice. I know I haven't drawn Supergirl yet, but I've got plans.

Thanks for this ask! While I'm not familiar with tinsel town people in general, this was like a fun scavenger hunt, haha.

“You’re nails a pretty” Aj spoke as he climbed into bed with me

I knew he had a long day of filming and he just wanted to watch the tv at home with me which I didn’t mind. Anytime with Aj was a good time.

“Thank you love” I spoke gratefully “I got your favourite colour”

He smiled “oh yeah!” And then he rubbed his eyes sleepily “I didn’t even realise”

He grabbed the remote and put on a YouTube video that he was gonna get me to watch. Once done, you pulled him down so he was resting on your chest. He looked up at you confused but you just shrugged.

“You’re nails are so long” Aj laughed after a couple of minutes

“They’re not that long” you playfully sassed back

After a while of a comfortable silence, you found your hand absentmindedly running through Aj’s hair. Your nails were scratching at his scalp. They were moving in a regular motion that made Aj feel good.

Aj could feel himself falling asleep. He was so tired after the day and your nails felt so good on his scalp that he couldn’t help but relax into you.

He was actively just melting into you, his whole body relaxing. After a couple of minutes of massaging you heard soft noises coming from your boyfriend.

Small snores erupted from him with quiet moans of pleasure echoing in the room once in a while. He didn’t seem to notice as his head lay still, eyes shut and lips slightly parted. He was so cute.

From that day on, Aj swore to pay for every time that you got your nails done and he would stand by that forever.
