Not trying to attack anyone here, I get it if you don't like the new Alucard.. and granted I'm pretty biased in this because I absolutely adore the old Castlevania art made by Ayami Kojima.. but
For some of the fans that are disappointed about Alucard getting a redesign, I hope you realize this new one is much closer to his design in Sympony Of The Night
(Btw.. if you're attacking or otherwise harassing anyone, but especially the artists and animators that worked on the show for this reason... SHAME. ON. YOU.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in fact, the first four seasons are inaccurate to the source material, his design from Dracula's Curse which follows the story of Trevor looks like this.. (the horror... he looks like a basic vampire, I know..)
Tumblr media
Side note, I really hope we see Genya Arikado before the series loses popularity... And maybe his design from Judgement making a cameo.. but I somehow doubt it..
Tumblr media
I have a feeling after the second season... assuming the showrunners don't redesign again according to demands by some Netflixvania fans... When the newness wears off, some that initially hated it may just grow to like it.
I also hope this encourages some that haven't to look into or play some Castlevania games too! Maybe if enough attention is given to the games Konami might finally do something with the series again? But maybe that's just wishful thinking...

"Only 12 Voice Actors"
The "only 12 voice actors" thing in anti-dub circles is frustrating because I've seen animation that only had a limited amount of actors to spread across multiple character. And a lot of them are damn impressive with all that they've had to work with.
Monsuno only had Cam Clarke, Chris Corey Smith, Karen Straussman, Kirk Thorton and Keith Silverstein. Each played one of the five man band protagonist group but also had to play many of the characters either reoccurring or one-offs.
Code Lyoko, a childhood favorite, only had nine voice actors to spread across the show. Aelita and Jeremie, the main couple were both played by Sharon Mann. David Gasman played William and Jim among many other supporting or one-off cast members.
But going back to Anime, it's actually exceedingly rare these days for any dub to have two characters share the exact same voice actors. You only get double casting when it's with maaaaaaybe a random extra but even then, there's additional voice credits for other VAs.
Hell, it's surprising given how dubs aren't known for going for high paying rates. If they wanted to cheap out, they could legit go with a limited amount just for main roles. Yet each character has one voice actor these days.
Buuuuuuut the anti-dub crowd doesn't know about this because it would run against their viewpoint of what they hate passionately. Like... the fact that they think that it's only FUNimation and that they have a "clique" of select voice actors is amazing.
Like... maybe a lot of voice actors get a lot of roles across these dubs because they are good at their jobs. Additionally... it is their job to get a role that can pay period. If they don't voice act, they're not doing their job. Which is to voice act. Ah, doy!

FYI: I have a degree in digital media and audio production and some of you need to know what ADR is.
Automated dialogue replacement
It means that most and/or everything you hear in professionally produced films is dubbed over with voice acting.
Boom Mics are used to record things said during filming so that the actors can (sometimes months to a year later and/or after the actors have had training on certain accents) record the same lines they performed in the scene based on the script they are given. This is done in a recording booth and with the same methods as voice acting in video games/anime/and animated movies.
I'm not saying that Chris Pratt should have voiced Mario, good god I wish we could remove him from Hollywood for good, but I do promise that he has done voice acting. All the face actors have. All those 'ha's and 'ack's are done in a booth. Every scene has approximately 0 of the original recorded audio while filming playing in the final release. Even sex scenes. Each actor has to then make all those sounds again in a booth later.
Most voice actors were also filmed actors or still are. Travis Willingham is a prof voice actor but he was also in the film Secondhand Lions with Robert Duval. Talasin Jaffe was in HOUSE MD and Mr. Mom.
And Kung Fu Panda is a good example of wildly talented hollywood actors doing voice acting and absolutely nailing it. All of them gave a performance that couldn't be replicated to the same level, and I know, I watched Kung Fu Panda: The Legends Of Awesomeness, in its entirety.
The problem is not that famous Hollywood actors can't do voice acting correctly, many do it very well(Idris Elba), it's that the studios are more interested in getting a Hollywood name to voice Mario, and not Charles Martinet. Because Travis Willingham or Colleen O'Shaughnessey don't have their faces on cereal boxes or toys with their likeness being sold to children.
This isn't (usually*) a talent problem, it's an extention of the situation when Disney screwed over Robin Williams. It's about companies not caring who actually does the best job, but whose name they can flash on the screen biggest.
*Benedict Cumberbatch definitely had months to perfect his Dr Strange accent so he has no excuse at all.

As African Americans, our ancestors had no other choice but to accept and embrace creativity, flexibility, innovation, cleverness, etc.. These are the building blocks of Hoodoo and AA culture as a whole. If they had practiced the same way their ancestors did in Africa, we wouldn’t have made it. If they had practiced the same way our cousins did in Cuba/Haiti/Brazil/DR/Trinidad, we wouldn’t have made it. If they had incorporated the Orishas, Lwa, Akom, or other higher spirits in Hoodoo, we wouldn’t have made it. Respect that and stop tethering these ancient deities into our spiritual system.

I know this is a blog primarily based on Hoodoo, but this NEEDS to be said:
TAROT READERS/READINGS CANNOT AND WILL NOT ACCURATELY TELL YOU WHAT ORISHA OWNS YOUR HEAD!
Tarot is not apart of nor did it evolve in the same way that ATR divination practices did in Africa which determine the Orisha who owns your head.
Also, just because you’re “Black” it doesn’t mean you have equal access to ATRs. Just like how fair-skinned folks can tell you “I’m Italian,” “I’m French,” “I’m German,” “I’m Scottish”.... “Black” Americans have different regions of Africa that inform our ancestry/DNA (I.e. Fawn, Igbo, Yoruba, Nigerian, etc) which will then inform what ATR you can participate in.
I know..we see stuff on the internet that seems powerful, and mystifying, we want to be apart of it. I urge you to take some time to connect with your ancestors and your ancestry before you begin connecting with an Orisha based tradition. Especially before you try to initiate or “self initiate” into an Orisha practice.
Finally, on the note of your ancestors, ancestry, and Orisha communities. Understand that these are community based practices and aren’t meant to be done alone. And by connecting to your ancestry you can begin to see what your role can/will be in the community.

For Hoodoos that are depressed, mentally ill, Disabled, or chronically ill…
Something disturbing that’s been going around is people saying not to do things like cleansing and prosperity baths while you’re depressed, implying that depression will somehow pollute the working or render it ineffective. Not only is this take extremely ableist, but it’s just not true and quite frankly lacks common sense. If you’re feeling depressed, a spiritual bath will likely improve your mood and/or any circumstances causing you distress. Can extreme emotions sometimes cloud our ability to conjure effectively? Yes, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t . Calm down as much as you can and write down what you’re going to do. This will keep you on track as you put together your work/bath/candle etc. Take some deep breaths, divine, and proceed accordingly. Your depression will not “taint” the work. Remember our ancestors were dealing with some of the most dangerous and grotesque situations in human history. Many of them were likely depressed, scared, angry, feeling hopeless, and everything in between. But they still did the spiritual work they needed to do, and improved their lives using our African spiritual technologies. Being depressed, mentally or physically disabled, or chronically ill doesn’t make you any less of a spiritualist.
