#A lot of ppl don't like the later books because of the quality

Perhaps its bc the tv landscape is just too crowded but for such a seemingly popular book series (and movie), the show's audience seems really small? Like it can't get major nominations at award that's solely made up of LGBT critics (losing their one nomination to the other two that ppl weren't even sure would get renewed)! It can't even get better ratings than that flop mayfair witches (both on streaming and linear), which is a much less popular book series and a total critics dud. Its actually quite concerning that the viewers dropped from pilot (600k) to finale (400k) so significantly.
I wonder what's going on cause sure amc is struggling but walking dead + spinoff numbers are still very good for cable these days, better call saul had consistently good viewership.. is it just too gay? was the wider vc fanbase too racist to get on board? is the abuse/toxicity too much for viewers who would normally be into a more fun vampire romance like true blood?
1. I don't know which awards you mean, but the ones they got noms for all are won by major studio shows. Even though a show is probably on the brink of cancellation or even trash, they still get more publicity if they come from a big studio just from the fact they're on a platform who has way more subscribers than AMC+.
2. AMC didn't do a simulcast for IWTV premiere yet they did for MW (broadcast on ALL AMC's cable and streaming channels). IWTV and MW average rating for all ages only has 0.01 difference. IWTV has a higher average rating than MW for the 18–49 age group, which is used by advertisers. A lot of the general audience and other Anne's fans saw the good reactions IWTV received and only signed up when MW was released to save money.
3. MW maybe bad to us, but Daddario is a B or C-list Hollywood actress. I personally know people who will watch any films/shows with her in it without caring about the quality. MW is also geared to a different group of audience than IWTV *cough* households of white straight people *cough*, so I'm not surprised if it does better on cable.
4. Being said that, it's obvious AMC knew "prestige TV" angle is better fit for IWTV, because as someone pointed out months before, judging from the numbers of IWTV crews, IWTV definitely got way more budget than MW. IWTV is still AMC's best hope for awards shows after BSC cos Lucky Hank (starring Bob Odenkirk) flopped. They'll probably push the Orphan Black spin off starring Krysten Ritter as well for critics (said to be released later this year).
Anyway, I don't even know what I'm trying to say with this because I'm not AMC, I don't have the numbers and statistics so I can't give you real answers. I can't find AMC+ ratings on Nielsen either so it's really only AMC who knows the real numbers.
From what I see though the word of mouth promotion works and that's the best way to reach the right people who will like IWTV. But the thing is they'll usually be stopped by the fact it's on AMC+ (either they can't afford to pay more service or it's not available for them). And judging from reactions from social media, IWTV should have better numbers in acquisitions (new subscribers) and views than MW, given it still gains new viewers over time and fans like to rewatch.

I’ve read Interview with the Vampire, and am interested in continuing on with the series. Where would you recommend a good place to stop reading the series? I know it seriously declines after a certain point, and I’d like to avoid that if possible.
I don't think it's ethical to recommend reading past Queen of the Damned. That is Anne Rice's original ending for the series and it's honestly a pretty damn good one. A lot of what she sets up in TVL and QOTD she undoes later which :/
However, I can understand if you love the characters SO much you want to keep reading (what happened with me and most ppl in this fandom) I think then you could skip forward to Prince Lestat. You might need to read the Wikipedia summaries of the book (also what I did) in between to get a grasp on what has happened in the interim and who any new characters might be, but AR later tried to write her series so you could pick up literally any book and start there so you might be fine. The Prince Lestat books are not perfect by any means, but they are slightly less fucked up than some of the middle series books. Most VC fans ship Louis/Lestat and she basically breaks them up after QOTD (booooo!) but it's in Prince Lestat where they get back together. So that's another reason Prince Lestat may be the way to go, if that's your thing.
However you could always also just read fanfic after you finish Queen of the Damned. There's plenty of fanfic that is leagues better than the actual books in this series. The writing quality drops severely after QOTD because Anne Rice refused to have an editor, I went from QOTD to PL and actually thought she had gotten a ghost writer, the change in quality and style seemed that shocking.

genuine question - what makes writing sem so difficult to get an a in? is it the amount of work they assign? or the rubrics the professors use to grade? or something else?
Response from Heisenberg:
TL;DR: ppl summarize the evidence in their papers instead of writing analytically rigorous arguments. Bit lengthy, from my experiences, and obv doesn't speak for everyone but here are my 2 cents.
I’ve found that it’s because students typically don’t know how to go in-depth with the literature of their topic. That is, effectively organizing a cohesive argument, finding nuances within the arguments and creating novel points to argue for, and perhaps even adding to the academic conversation (the “literature”) about the topic with one’s own ideas instead of merely providing a summary of the evidence with no new ideas. Writing seminar is NOT designed to teach you how to write for the New York Times or how to publish a best-selling book. It is designed to demonstrate how you should interact with the literature of your chosen topic in preparation for independent work later on at Princeton. Notice how I phrased that: yes, engineers, this applies to you as well. Indeed, very talented writers may find themselves struggling in writing seminar not because they suddenly lost their ability to write but rather because of the different context under which they write.
More often than not, what ends up happening is people just write the basic 5-paragraph essay they learned in high school that’s very “robotic” and doesn’t allow for the flexibility of going deep into a particular nuance while having the flexibility to pivot/transition to the next argument and how it could relate. It’s like thesis: here’s what I think -> now here’s reason 1 -> now here’s reason 2 which doesn’t really flow from reason 1 but is another reason that I think is valid nonetheless -> another reason 3 that may or may not make improve their paper’s quality -> conclusion that just summarizes the paper. This demonstrates your ability to read from the assigned readings, clearly, but not necessarily your ability to actually synthesize what you've read and write an analytically rigorous paper.
Regarding the workload, I actually don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. You get some assigned readings that may take ~90-120 minutes to read through it all (but you have the entire week to do so) and then you just write papers ranging from ~5-12 pages (I forget how long exactly but it's not excruciatingly long). The issue is the onslaught of work comes from refining the quality of your produced works and NOT from the volume of the work. Others just end up procrastinating on their work (maybe because they were assigned an uninteresting writing sem or what have you), which you can imagine would make the class harder. It's especially understandable, though, since the transition to life at Princeton certainly takes some time to adjust to.
What I think the two biggest problems are: 1). most papers just end up being a summary with no analytical rigor, or 2). they might bring up novel arguments but they’re non-rigorous and often biased by their past beliefs.
The former is what makes people say that writing seminar is “hard” because they’ve simply never written anything that has required this much work to write with ironclad rigor. The latter is what makes people say writing sem is “BS” or that it's "not applicable to other classes,” and it actually occurs quite a bit. I've literally heard people self-proclaim that they have this uncanny ability to wiggle themselves out of any paper by making up some argument that may sound profound or superficially spectacular but is actually unfounded once granularly dissected. Granted, this approach may actually work in some classes here, but it ain't gonna work in writing seminar. This ends up being a revelation for a lot of students and it's the main reason why students are unhappy with their B on any given paper: thinking that their arguments were sound but in reality there were numerous illogical jumps and inconsistencies in their paper.
I remember some of my friends fuming about their R1/2/3 grades and were intent on giving their professor a piece of their mind at office hours, but then I would read their papers and see exactly what their professor were talking about. Obviously, I would try to sympathize with their situation and offer some constructive feedback in case they wanted another viewpoint on it. But it’s almost like cognitive dissonance when this is the first time that freshmen receive actual critical feedback in their life. Referring back to the first paragraph about talented writers, some may actually choose to maintain their belief that their writing ability is infallible. They conclude their professor must be mistaken and so they never actually change their writing habits and end up bombing the course.
It's interesting because you can imagine this is more likely to happen if you got into a writing sem with a topic you’re really “comfortable” with. This is because you’re more inclined to not objectively look at what the assigned readings (the evidence/literature) say because you already have such a molded idea of what you think is “right” in your mind.
Combine this with the fact that there is really no rubric per se (the profs just feel whether it’s an A, B, or C paper lol) and a group of students accustomed to perfectly following very specific rubrics that would guarantee them an A in any assignment during high school and you have some very unhappy freshmen.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

I hihi I am!!! A little nervous w/ doing this bc I've never done this b4 so please bear🐻 w// me💦 May I request a match up? A vision, a romantic partner and maybe a friend and/or enemy? If that's too much feel free to just assign me a vision + partner, ehe/// Preferably male for a romantic match-up, but either gender is fine with a friend and enemy match-up^^ I tried to be as detailed as possible but I think I ended up just ranting, so im v v sorry if it's long! I sort of fluctuate when it comes to being an introvert/extroverted. W// strangers and irl, I'm very introverted and shy!! Rarely speak and if I do it's just the usual "Hi how are you? That's good. I'm good too, thank you for asking:)" yeayea I'm not too. Keen on social interaction irl. But I always do my best to be very nice!! I never wanna come off as mean bc wow what a bad first impression that would be. But with friends / ppl ik online?? Whew I am very very friendly n chatty ^^ Either very high energy or very chill, there's rarely any inbetween. Sometimes I like to jokingly tease my friends but I'd never go too far / make them uncomfortable!! And if I do I always apologize right away!! I like to say that I'm affectionate?? My strongest love language is def physical affection, if not quality time. Idk man there's just something about vibing with someone or hugging them that just aaaaa/// Although I usually display affection w// words of affection bc. Literally most of my friends are online friends so I can't actually hug them, sad times. Idk if this is needed/important info but I just remembered: I'm 5'6 around??? Need glasses bc. Whew i am blind (near sighted), I'm poc (specifically black) anndd, hm. Actually I think thats it for this section, aha. As you can see I'm, not really all that organized. Also I don't have the best attention span - while writing this I'm circling between 4 different apps - and I'm a bit of a mess. And also a little stupid. Just a smidge dumb. But I have my moments - I solved like. 2 puzzles in Inazuma by myself so I think that counts for something. I also find that I tend to talk a whole lot when I have an idea or smthn to say abt a thing I'm super interested in!! That's info-dumping. I info dump. Yes. I also really like to listen to other people talk abt things they like!!!! Its so nice :) I'm protective over people I care about!! I've never done it but 100% would bark at someone who messed with someone close to be. Arf arf yaknow. I tend to he impulsive. I'll do something, and be all "YEAH>:D" and then regret it later. And then I'll do it all over again in a fun little cycle :) I consider myself an optimist, but quickly turn into a pessimist whenever it concerns myself. Fun funfun. Should probably mention that I am. A very insecure person w/ dangerously low self esteem, which is super fun esp when you mix that with the fact that I'm rarely ever motivated to improve. Yayayay Also sort of a pushover?? Like most often than not I'll be convinced to do something, even if I'm not too keen on doing it. Also afraid of confrontation when it comes to my friends and strangers (that is, if it's concerning me!! I'll order smthn for my friend but if I need to order for myself?? uhh stutter time aha). I'm also a mega simp ahah! Srsly though if I fall for someone/get infatuated with someone I. Will be so obvious abt it even though I try very hard not to be. Would gush over that person probably. I don't really like mean people tbh. Like yes I'll be nice and civil with them but!!! I cannot stand!!! Rude people!!! Esp when they're mean for no reason like sir??? maam??? homie??? chill pls ty<3 People who aren't necessarily mean, but moreso have bastard energy and are just really "hehe>:D" but playfully are p poggers tho!!! I think I get along with kids!! I have a little sister,, around like. Nine? And we get along really well!! I also try and match a kid's energy whenever I'm tasked with looking after them. I take pride in the fact that kids like me >:].... even if they sometimes scare me-- Ok, interest time!!
I like art!! Quite a bit!! Less of a realistic artist and more of a cartoonist!! Idk there's just something fun abt drawing cartoons, hehe. I also like self ships - I have quite a bit of them, actually ! Idk its comforting drawings your fictional crushes loving you idkidk. I like writing too! Both original stories, and one-shots or personal fics that are associated with already created media!! Writing character backstories and personalities and stuff is also fun too! I've even made my own fictional world with a full fledged backstory n everything! It's very fun to think about. I'm a day dreamer!!! Yea remember when I said I write stories? I day dream abt potential stories even more. Mmm daydream world so nice so warm so fun I read aswell!! Mostly fantasy books, or stories where animals are the protagonists. Think Warrior Cats. But my favorite book series has got to be Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Fantasy owl books, anyway! X Readers are also things I enjoy reading :) Again, s I m p Also gaming!!! Is something fun I do sometimes!!! Although it's usually Genshin Impact, or Wii Sports/Resort w// my little sister. Oh, also pokemon! I rlly like Primarina, Vaporeon, Sylveon and Vulpix/Ninetails! I absolutely adore sweet foods, and baking is smthn I'm def interested in! Don't like foods w// weird textures though, like beans or mashed potatoes. Also I. Love spice so much. Mmm love it when my mouth burns so bad. Don't have a favorite animal but I've had three cats in my lifetime (btw not important but my current cat is named Sylvester and. He's my baby boy) so I am. A very big cat fan. Probably not needed but I really like sword and claymore characters. Literally all of the characters I main are either sword or claymore users. Although I did get Diona, so I miiight start forcing myself to learn how to aimmm. I see that I tend to like people/characters that are a little more extroverted than me. Upbeat, happy type beat!!! Nice sunshine babies, :) I think thats it! I hope this was good enough? Again, first time doing this (at 2am nonetheless) so forgive me if I got too rambly or did anything wrong ^^ Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this! And I hope your day is good / you had a good day, depending on when you read this, ehe!
Hey! Sorry if the wait has been long! I also love Warrior Cats (I promise myself, one day I'll finish it.)
You received... A Pyro vision! Optimistic, enthusiastic, impulsive, reckless, and a lot of energy are the general characteristics held by the Pyro vision. • I hesitated between the Pyro and Hydro vision, but your energy distinguishes you from the Hydro vision. • You said you were impulsive, always doing something you might regret later but still doing it. • You react quickly: as you said, if somebody hurt someone you love, you won't think twice before barking. Your partner would be... Xingqiu! “This feeling was unexpected.” • At first, you were just friends, and Xingqiu really loved to tease you. Actually, you both teased each other. But eventually, a feeling of love towards you grew into Xingqiu. And that was reciprocated. • Your relationship is filled with teases, jokes, and good/funny moments where you mostly share what you commonly appreciate. • He also knows when to get serious: for example, he does everything to support you during your moments of struggle concerning your self-esteem. Your friend would be... Childe! “Luckily, I'm here!” • You two also share funny moments, especially during situations where your “stupidity” is overtaken by his insight. • Sometimes, he finds you cute. • He likes the fact that you get along well with kids. It leads you to great moments with him and his siblings. • You're quite the opposite in terms of self-esteem. I think it's a good thing because it makes you complementary. Your enemy would be... Albedo! A misunderstanding. • You wouldn't hate each other, but I think Albedo wouldn't like the way you use your energy, and when you're more in a chill mood (meaning you're more available for him to talk), he could get pissed at how much times he'd have to repeat himself for you to understand something. • He's very patient, but he understood quickly that his interests would maybe not be within your reach. • You would just be too different. Worth to mention • You and Venti are like drama queens in Mondstadt. You are good friends. But you both know that you can't be more, as it would eventually both drag you down (because of similar problems). • Klee is also your best friend: both of you share decisions that you definitely will regret later. Or maybe not. • Hu tao and you are kinds of silently competing over who's the best tease, and she beats you. My goal is definitely not achieved. I hope I can catch up tomorrow. And don't worry, it was surprisingly good for a first description!

If you have the time and if you don't mind, what are some books you really recommend? Doesn't have to be all time faves, but anything that pops into mind that you want more ppl to read and love, Extra points if lgbt+ , i got the whole summer with little to do and i wanna spend it reading some good quality writing and honestly so far your recs have introduced me to so many faves its unbelievable
[blushes profusely] oh wow, thank you!!!  i’m so glad you’ve trusted me enough to check out some of the stuff i reblog; that is like the ultimate compliment, i can’t even???  i don’t mind at all(!), fair warning though: i only started recording what i read partway through last year and my mind is like a sieve so i’ll do my absolute best to remember what’s sang to me in the recent past.  warning number two: i’m in an open relationship with absolutely every genre out there so i’ll try to note which belongs where so you can avoid those that hold no interest for you.
LGBT+
i’ll give you the sun.  i loved this book, the writing is fucking transformative and all the characters are so damn likable, while still being realistically flawed human beings.
the raven cycle (tetralogy).  definitely my favorite series since harry potter.  the writing, the world-building, the characters, it’s all on top-form.  i wrote a little, mini non-spoilery review of it: here, back when i was better (worse?) wordly-wise and my feels were brand new.
more happy than not.  i’m still not sure how i feel about this book.  it was hard, but it felt very true to the characters and the lingo and style matched the ages of the players and i have a lot of respect for that.
the watchmaker of filigree street.  woooow i loved this book.  i admit ‘historical fiction’ kind of makes me cringe.  it never precludes me from reading a book but it does knock it down the list by a book or five because they’re often very dense and very clunky and end up taking me ages to get through.  but this one was gorgeous.  i loved the plot, the attention lovingly placed on every character and the historical elements.  the surprise gay in an already brilliant book felt like winning the lottery honestly.
captive prince (trilogy).  okay, truthfully, i’m only putting this on here because the second book is such a high point for me.  it was never bad at any point but it had unfortunately been hyped far too much for it to live up to my, admittedly, very high expectations.  hopefully it’ll fare better with you?
everything i never told you.  i go back and forth on this one.  i like the writing a lot, i like the LGBT aspect a lot, and i like the mystery aspect a lot but there are definitely characters i would cut out entirely for sheer predictability if i could and that killed a lot of my enjoyment at the time (but i think much more highly of it in retrospect?).  so, take that as you like.
aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe.  if there’s a book that handles its characters with more care or respect or consideration then i haven’t run into it.  i love the way this is written and the people it’s populated with.
flying lessons & other stories.  a bunch of uber talented authors writing a bunch of uber diverse and LGBT-focused stories and, yes, that is exactly as awesome as it sounds.
the song of achilles.  it is utterly heart-breaking but so rich, honestly.
FANTASY
the diviners.  (also has a minor LGBT character, who may play a bigger role in the sequel?)  fair warning, i have not read the sequel, lair of dreams, because it is somehow still not out in paperback (yes, i read physical books, yes, i pretty exclusively read paperbacks so i can lug them everywhere with me, YES, I PRE-ORDERED THIS ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO AND IT’S STILL NOT OUT, NOT THAT I’M BITTER ABOUT THAT OR ANYTHING) so i can’t speak to that one finishing on a high note as i don’t know.  but this was the first historical novel i managed to like in a long while.  it does such a good job of fusing in 1920s lingo and dress and aspects that i couldn’t help but love it.  add in the fantasy elements and i can admit i’m the perfect sucker for it.
the scorpio races.  i’m not sure why but it took me a long-ass time to get into this book, i wasn’t flipping pages with gusto until well towards the end but - especially as i was reading so much YA at the time - i really appreciated coming across a romance that lets both people come into it as themselves and stay themselves, neither puck nor sean were ever smashed or crumpled or shaved away to fit into their relationship, which was so refreshing.  plus the water horses were fucking cool.
the night circus.  the writing, the atmosphere, the circus.  just… it is all very whoa.
all the birds in the sky.  i loved this writing style and these characters and the magical elements.
CONTEMPORARY
i’ll meet you there.  there was something about this and i just… ended up liking it way more than i expected to.  i might’ve just read it at exactly the right time, i’m not sure, but i really enjoyed it.
the invoice.  this is honestly just hella cute and so freaking surreal.  swedes, man.
NON-FICTION
why not me?  i like mindy kaling a lot.  i make no apologies for that.  plus you can read both her books in about five seconds, haha.
SCIENCE FICTION
station eleven.  i loved this book.  the way the narrative is woven is so refreshing and i wish the comic book miranda was writing in this book was a real thing more than anything else in the woooorld.
illuminae.  hot DAMN this book was cool.  the plot was rock solid, the characters were hilarious and badass and the graphics made out of text and spiraling words and just the way this thing is put together?  shit, it’s worth your money and then some.
a robot in the garden.  okay this is just cute as hell.  i can’t even with tang, he’s the most adorable robot to ever adorable.
annihilation (southern reach trilogy).  (LGBT minor characters.)  okay, honestly?  i don’t know.  this was freaking zany but i was invested as fuck in all the kookiness for reasons i can’t articulately elaborate on.
the martian.  hilarious, engaging, SPACE.  what more do you want?
HORROR
things we lost in the fire.  this is more atmospheric than anything but, damn, could this get me wishing i wasn’t reading this in the dark or looking over my shoulder to make absolutely sure no one was standing behind me.  it’s a book of short stories (by the way, i love books of short stories and i definitely realize that is not true for everyone) and each one is so well-delivered and stylized.  i really enjoyed reading this.
let the right one in.  okay, this is legit horror so definitely stay away if you’re easily squicked out but it is harrrrrd to find good horror (at least in my opinion) and this definitely, definitely qualifies.
horrorstör.  i honestly had such low expectations for this, a horror story set in a wannabe-ikea, but it ended up being so ridiculous and strange and funny that i was won over by the finish.
the girl with all the gifts.  holy unique and well-executed zombie idea, batman!
SHORT STORIES
the bigness of the world.  there were definitely ones here that hit better than others but the ones i liked, i really liked!
GRAPHIC NOVELS (i read a lot of these so, um, prepare yourself)
saga.  (LGBT minor characters as well.)  this is world-building to a degree that i’m convinced did not exist before.  just, i can’t say enough amazing things about this series and the staggering amount of imagination that regularly goes into it.
ms. marvel.  heart-warming as fuck.  it’s definitely really easy to lose faith in the world these days, luckily kamala is there to remind you that people are primarily and genuinely good.
black science.  this is another one that took just an insane amount of imagination to cook up.  i got off to kind of a rocky start with this one but the gray-ness of all the characters really speaks to me, and that doesn’t really blossom until later in the series.
spider-man/deadpool.  this was very satisfying for my super duper spideypool-shipping mind.  joe and ed did us so good, and joe basically said in his sign-off: i made it absolutely as gay as they would let me, haha.
the wicked + the divine.  (LGBT minor characters that you’re going to get way too attached to, and retroactively.  it’s awful [sobs].)  the concept for this, gods reincarnating into teenagers before they burn up their hosts after a predetermined set of time, is so fucking cool.  the humor and the characters and the plot is all just aces.
iceman (LGBT MAIN CHARACTER).  okay, so this just started.  like issue #2 was only released days ago but 1) i am liking it so far and 2) marvel did it so dirty and barely advertised bobby - an openly homosexual superhero - was getting his own series, like, i found out about it the day before it went on sale and i keep my ear fairly close to the ground (not as close as some BY A LOT, but closer than the lay person i’d say) so if you can support it, please do!  pre-orders mean a lot in terms of numbers. :))))
descender.  admittedly, this starts out rooough.  because the main character, TIM-21 (and his little dog too), are annoying as hell.  he’s an android so there’s no dimension to him so he’s booooring as all get out but i am so glad i stuck with it through to the next trade because, probably picking up on the unsustainability of him as a main character, he gets shuffled off and the side characters get the stage and they rock so hard.
paper girls. (LGBT main characters.)  i’m kind of just convinced that brian k. vaughan can do no wrong at this point.  his plots are so tight and mind-blowing and badass.
monstress.  here’s a little tid-bit about me: female comic book writers are 100% more likely to get my money and my time because they are so damn rare and this series is unique, badass, and eye-opening.
black monday murders.  i’m a little premature with this since there’s only one volume and i usually try to wait until there are at least two but i check up on a volume two a lot so that definitely means something intrigued me!
nailbiter.  okay, i haven’t read the final volume yet ‘cause i’m reluctant to let it go but, so far, a series about multiple serial killers all being from the same town has me VERY HOOKED.
i wish i could remember more but this is honestly way better than i expected to do, haha.  they’re definitely not all my all-time faves but they’re ones that have stuck with me for one reason or another and that i didn’t feel i wasted my time on, so that’s something, right?  i hope this helps get you started and that you don’t think too awfully of me when you inevitably run across ones that aren’t your cup of tea!

why don't you ship delena? I'm not trying to start a discourse or say that you're wrong for shipping stelena (bc honestly so do I) but I used to ship delena A LOT when I watched the show and I preferred them over stelena, but lately I have felt a bit iffy about them bc I realized how unhealthy/toxic they are and I'm just curious what your reasons are for preferring stelena. so if you don't mind, why do you ship stelena and what are some reasons you don't like delena?? thanks for the answer:)
(in addition to my last ask) also, do you ship anyone else on tvd, other than stelena?
this might or might not get long bc i have a lot of reasons and just…. tvd and me, we go way back nijxckjjxk
basically, i used to ship delena too when i was 12-13/14. like let’s not lie to ourselves, their peak was s1-s2 and the ust was great, as well as their banter. i still believed that “a love that consumes you until you go mad” was a good thing, at that time. i didn’t know shit about relationships; clearly, the description above is the prime example of toxicity. i started to read the books as season 3 rolled around and i noticed how much i preferred stefan there… how beautiful stelena was, in the sense that besides the vampire aspect, they were something i aspired to have too. a relationship with trust, motivation, pushing the other person to be the better version of themselves, mutual love and general acceptance of the other and their life. no manipulation. no abusing your powers. and it really opened my eyes. these things were also in the show with stelena. season 4 and esp season 5 really made me lose interest in the show bc delena was getting that prime spot and i couldn’t be bothered with damon and his toxic ass and how julie plec butchered elena’s character after her becoming a vampire and getting sired to damon. everything went to shit. delena became julie plec’s wet dream. elena started as sunshine incarnate and ended up being…. whatever the fuck she was later on. you goddamn better believe s1!elena would be disappointed af in s5-s6!elena. (also ppl don’t @ me about character development bc i know what character development is,, this isn’t it.) while i did like damon at the beginning bc of the “bad boy” trope (i was a fucking cliché), i was always :/// about his “““relationship””” with caroline and what he did to her. and it really hit me, as i grew up as a person and as i opened myself to other people as well, that projecting that kind of behavior on screen was not!!! okay!!! i was involved with my own entitled assholes to understand that damon was one of them as well. (kind of like will*am in skam, idk u watch it) not only that, but damon basically killed jeremy???? 10383 times???? like at that point idk how anyone with the right mind would even consider dating someone who has snapped the neck of your younger brother… dated your biological mother….. compelled your friend to have sex with them, etc etc…… ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ besides this feeling of loving “madly” someone (it was an obsession!!!!!! it’s not healthy) and ian and nina’s earlier chemistry, i really don’t see that many qualities delena & damon had. plus. i love paul wesley. sue me. i love his portrayal as stefan. nd i accept stefan’s past as ripper. because while this show is supernatural and his powers as a vampire were fiction, the aspects aforementioned about damon are not. he was obsessive and thought he was entitled to have elena (past s2 esp!!). this can happen to anyone in a toxic relationship. stefan loved elena. stefan would have given up everything for her. he didn’t pressure her into anything. he just loved her. and really, you don’t have to meet someone first to make it the relationship™ of your life @ julie plague.idk there are a lot of other things but i stopped watching the show a long ass time ago and my memory is bad soooo (also i’d say klaroline tbh. that’s the only other ship that left an impression on me and that comes to mind. i know klaus was problematic as hell and i acknowledge it (idk how he is in the originals bc i don’t watch it), but the fact that he pushed caroline to accept her new self and her powers, and the fact that he wanted her to live and prosper….. i loved that. i really did.)
