How do you feel about the increase in really weird NSFW ads on here (advertising panels that look like sexual encounters, and AI art apps that pride themselves on porn) but will take down NSFW posts from their users, even if it isn't technically sexual.

i hate all social media and it's consistent prioritising the advertisers over the users and the internet simply was a better place before capitalism sunk its hooks into it

#i could write essays about how capitalism ruined the internet. #i was actually talking to someone earlier today about how youtube was kind of effectively ruined by monetisation. #and they were raised in the soviet union and we had a bit of a talk about how art was better because it wasn't for profit. #the people who made art made it because they wanted to do it and because they loved it. #she said that communism was terrible for every aspect of life for her. people's lives under communism wasn't pretty. #but the art was better. and i feel like it's true for the internet – it was better when it was a free-for-all. #the companies didn't know how to exploit it yet and turn it into a neverending profit-driven hellscape. #people created content because they wanted to. because they wanted to make something silly to make people laugh. #not for profit. not for gain. not for numbers. not to further their career. #i miss the days of newgrounds and youtube before monetisation. #capitalism has soiled everything that's joyful and good in this world. #people should be able to share whatever they want. #people should be able to tell any story they want without the fear of being silenced by advertisers. #that's what made the internet so beautiful before. anyone could do anything and we all had equal footing. #but now we're victims of the algorithm. and it makes me sick. #i'm quitting my job in social media. i'm quitting it. it makes me too depressed. i have an existential crisis every freaking day. #every day i wake up and say "ah. this is the fucking hell we live in #i'm so sorry i feel so passionate about this. #social media is a black hole and it is actively destroying humanity. forget ai. social media is what's doing it. #i miss how beautiful the internet used to be. it should've been a tool for good. but it's corrupt and evil now. #sci speaks

i generally keep my mouth shut on the Israel Palestine conflict because there is nothing I can say that is of any value, but saying that all striking actors deserve to be replaced by AI and don't deserve fair pay just because you don't agree with the SAG president's statement on the conflict? it just proves that you never cared about the strike in the first place and only supported it for clout.

tumblr users who are otherwise good about being skeptical that the utterly defenseless and voiceless would be effectively protected by the systems we have in place want so badly to believe that animal abuse simply does not happen, and if it does it gets caught right away, and that laws and regulations around it both qualify things we would find horrific as "abuse" and are reliably enforced and everything is just completely fine and good, they will fully and uncritically believe that the very first person who confidently says what they want to hear is surely honest and unbiased and has a complete and representative picture of the global situation

like. I'm not claiming to have done extensive research in this area. But I didn't have to do very much to find very recent stories of the horrific conditions animals used for testing have been found to be in. using sentient creatures as commodities is just always going to be rife with abuse-- is inherently abusive and should be treated like the tragedy it is, one to be minimized wherever possible and hopefully, someday, with enough progress, avoided entirely.

Yo.

There are two ways to do it. You can enroll in your local ranger school, which will teach you the basics and provide you with a co-op placement to help you figure out where you want to work. The availability of courses differs across the different schools - the one here in Paldea has the capture styler course, for example, but the one in Hoenn does not. However, the Hoenn school has multiple different courses for specialized rangers, like marine or aerial rangers. The specialization courses add a few years (depending on how you set up your course load) since you still have to learn the basics. And while the curriculum is decided by the Ranger Union and is standard across all the school, the types of courses and teachers might influence your decision on where to go to school.

Or you can do what some of the more old school rangers did, before the schools were quite so wide spread, which is volunteer at your local base and become buds with the base leader until they give you a job. This is pretty rare these days, but as far as I know still something that base leaders are allowed to do. Your license and certification would come from their direct tutelage rather than a school.

The good news is that there won't be much of a financial burden, regardless of what avenue you take. The Union has deals with most governments to partially/fully subsidize the cost of tuition, and then fills in the remainder with their own funds. The Union may do a lot of things I don't agree with, but I do respect the absolute refusal to lock education behind a paywall. They also offer cost of living scholarships and grants that you can apply for to cover things like rent and food while you study.
