“Loki, no,” you whispered, clutching his hand like a lifeline. “Don’t do this. Please.”

“I’m sorry,” he breathed, “I really am. But I can’t do this anymore. Not like this. I tried, my love. I tried so hard to be better than that, to be good, for you – but that’s what I am, and what I’ll always be, in the end. A trickster.”

Your voice began to shake as you stared at him, bewildered and betrayed, and you whispered, “I trusted you. How can you do this to me? How can you say you love me only to take everything from me?! As if I meant nothing?! We were a Team, Loki. Did that mean nothing to you?”

He shrugged, a sudden coldness freezing over the warmth in his gaze, the warmth he’d reserved only for you. Swallowed by his ambition.

“No…no!”, you whispered, “Come on, I can’t lose you! Do you really choose ruling the world over me?” you whispered, fathomless, “After everything I’ve done for you?”

“I’m sorry. But that’s the game,” he breathed, tearing his hand from your grasp.

With a last gaze at you, a dagger materialized in his hand in a shimmer of green, and his knuckles turned white as his grip around the hilt tightened for the killing blow. You closed your eyes, preparing yourself. With a swipe of the blade, the little red pawns you’d so carefully placed on the map, dice by dice, round for round, were wiped from the game board, toppling to the ground at the foot of the coffee table.

For a few heartbeats, there was silence as Loki’s wicked grin returned, before Bucky muttered from his seat of the sofa opposite of the two of you, “Now I know why the others didn’t want to have a game night with the two of you. You’re crazy. Both of you.”

Loki’s grin widened. “Well, you’re free to go, Barnes.” With a glance at you and a sultry wink, he added, “I know quite a lot of fun games for two. Chess, for a start. Or…Jenga.”

“Do you really think you can betray me like this, taking Europe and Asia from me after telling me we’d play as a team, and I’ll still let you Jenga me tonight?”

“That’s it, imma head out,” Bucky scoffed, leaving you and Loki laughing on the sofa.

Yesterday I joked about starting to call sunday "sinday" on this blog because I somehow always post smut on sundays but then I had the idea to actually make this an official thing, with smut prompts and writing smut drabbles for the whole day every few weeks on a sunday.
