I really don’t have words for what today meant to me. . The opportunities I’ve been afforded in this life of mine continually blow me away. My heart is full of gratitude. . Paisley, I’m sure gonna miss you and I know someone is going to be blessed to own you. . I’m not a colt starter, yet @tammypate04 offered me the chance to start a colt at her event and I said yes. . For a year I’ve thought about how today would go. It was better than my most perfect visualization. . If you don’t continually get outside your comfort zone, you’ll never improve. I am way outside my comfort zone here, and I’m loving every minute. Every moment is a chance to improve myself... . I spent my #valentines day driving though a ground blizzard with a trailer containing 3 horses: Copper was in the pickup. . This is about the 5th or 6th (but who is counting), Valentine’s Day that I haven’t been with my better half. . He’s travels to help change the face of agriculture, to provide for his family and to fund my barrel racing addiction, but he won’t hesitate to give me grief for my addiction!!! 😂😂🤣🤣 . Our life is good. So good. I couldn’t have dreamed the Good Lord would grant me someone this amazing to spend my life with. . Truthfully, and I know this sounds cliche, but everyday is Valentine’s Day with him. He is patient. He is kind. He’s a phenomenal father. He’s just all around the best catch I could have ever dreamt for myself. . We were actually in the same state today: Minnesota. He was north of me, however. . Ironic. . But I had a great day. Avie continues to improve, Cosmo’s feet are showing improvement and Max, our old faithful kid horse made great strides towards soundness this winter! . I had a damn great day, compliments of my valentine. . Ps: I’m either crazy or determined - Monday I drove on snowy roads to the vet, and drove home on icy roads. Today I drove East with a 30-35mph cross wind that created ground blizzards. All to get my horses ready to rodeo. And I wouldn’t get the chance to have to guess if I’m crazy or determined if it weren’t for this damn fine man of mine. The last week has been a crazy whirlwind of awesomeness. I just got home from Arizona, to more snow and cold. The inaugural @artofthecowgirl was a huge success. I gained a whole bunch of new sisters! I finally got to meet @trinityseely. She is the kindest soul. Her voice is like velvet. @amy_raymond Is incredibly talented and funny, Af. @nicolepoyo has gorgeous hair and a quiet, kind disposition. And let’s don’t forget she takes pretty great photos. Oh and @tayteichert - dang girl is tall, handy and has great hair. Life is so unfair! 😂 I also got to meet @k_altsch. She is genuine and kind and flipping gorgeous (also she’s super fit). @themontanacowgirl and @candaceweeda are some seriously driven women and I’m better for having them in my life. I also got to meet the Mad Hatter, @greeleyhatworks. What a cool dude. And thoughtful too — he kept our team in coffee and snacks. There were so many new friendships formed. I just can’t list them all. I didn’t get to eat most days. I ran a lot of scavenger hunts. My phone was out of battery by the end of the day. But so we! I’m fairly certain we all feel like we were calving heifers this weekend. There is no doubt we would do it all again in a heartbeat! But...give us a couple weeks to catch our breath! Looking towards this week, like a BOSS. There’s a big to-do list. A kick ass team of people to help get it done, a lot of amazing horses to ride, errands to run and the countdown to @artofthecowgirl begins in earnest for us. . We’d planned to be running barrels in Arizona this weekend, but sometimes things happen, so we are still here at home: preparing, working and generally taking each day by the horns, and then drop kicking it -- because we rocked it. . I spent so many years being surrounded by people who didn’t lift me up, and I’m sure I did my fair share of tearing others down. . Time in Vegas is always fun -- but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to get home and see this handsome guy, get back into the routine of riding him and the rest daily. . I'm always grateful for the chance to travel, but I really love home; the family, my horses, the house -- even the chores. As the sun sets on another week, I can’t help but reflect on a few things. At this time last week, I was hurriedly changing clothes, curling my hair and jumping feet first into the inaugural @artofthecowgirl event. It was incredible. I made new friends, learned more than I would have ever imagined, and had an incredible time doing it. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for art/creativity while simultaneously empowering women, and building partnerships. If you’ve been around here long enough, you know that I’d not be where I am today if not for my better half, @zach.ducheneaux. His sacrifices make it possible for me to be me. We are a team and a darn good one. He has believed in me when I couldn’t believe in me. And wouldn’t let me quit when I was ready to throw in the towel. This photo isn’t in focus. The sun cast a soft enough glare that the camera had a hard time focusing. Mostly because I was in a hurry. The moment was fleeting. I was trying capture what I saw at that moment — the setting sun, the soft loft of Cosmo’s fluffy, Winter hair, golden, dreamy light and her breath hanging in the air. I don’t care that this image isn’t in focus, because life is not perfect. A lack of perfection is what makes life beautiful. Realizing our blessings makes life beautiful. Finding the opportunity and positivity in every situation make life beautiful. The sooner we embrace those things the happier we will be. Trust me. It took me years to learn this. But if I can learn it, so can you. I finally got to throw a leg over a horse today. It was my first ride of 2019! And since Cosmo is one of the only horses here that doesn’t have ringworm, she got tagged. Y’all know I hated that! Haha! . . . I logged a few important dates in my planner, wrote down some goals for this year, and started working on some things I’ve wanted to execute for a while but haven’t been brave enough to take the leap to do. However, sometimes you have to jump to see if you can fly, so that’s what I’m doing! . . .
