This is a three-way poll. Only one of these women will continue to the next round of the bracket.
Propaganda
Deborah Kerr (Bonjour Tristesse, An Affair to Remember, The King and I)— For several decades she held the record for most Oscar nominations without a win (6 in total), and she was a prolific leading lady throughout the 40s and 50s. She's best known today for the romance An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant, and as the governess in The King and I. Many people have this erroneous perception of her as extremely prim, proper, and virginal, but this could not be further from the truth. When she first came to Hollywood under MGM she was typecast into boring decorative roles, but broke sexual boundaries for herself and Hollywood generally in From Here to Eternity, when she made out (horizontally!) with Burt Lancaster (on top of him!) in the famous Beach Scene. She went on to play many sexually conflicted women, a character type that would define most of her post- Eternity work. She continued to break Hays Code boundaries with Tea and Sympathy, which addresses homosexuality/homophobia head-on, and even did a topless scene in The Gypsy Moths 1969!! One of the only classic stars to do so. She deserves a more nuanced and frankly a hotter legacy than she currently has!!!
Keiko Awaji (Stray Dog, A Japanese Tragedy, When a Woman Ascends the Stairs)— Her role as Harumi— a dancer who lives with her mom and will go to incredible lengths for one nice dress— is so fucking killer. she more than holds her own against Toshiro Mifune, the incredible sense of dread and foreboding in their scenes has really stuck with me
Hazel Scott (Broadway Rhythm, Rhapsody in Blue)—ok ok let me tell you about Hazel Scott. She was a Trinidadian piano genius. By the age of 3 she could play the piano by ear. She would play jazzed-up versions of classics in nightclubs and could sing too! She appeared in five movies, and used her influence as a piano prodigy to improve Black representation in film—she turned down offensive parts, demanded equal pay, and always wore her own costumes to ensure she was portrayed as glamorous and beautiful. She was the first African-American woman to host her own television show, The Hazel Scott Show. She stood up for civil rights and was an overall icon! If you want to watch her being a genius, here she is playing two pianos at once. And here's this one that shows off her consummate glamor! [videos beneath the cut]
This is round 4 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Deborah Kerr:
Tumblr media
I think she was one of my first crushes before I realised I was bi in The King and I when I watched it as a kid honestly. The kissing scene in From Here to Eternity is iconic for a reason. Actually tried to learn the accents for the characters she was playing if they weren't English which is more than pretty much anyone else was doing then. Played very restrained characters who frequently seemed to be desperate not to be so restrained. Did horror movies without venturing into hagsploitation tropes. Gave Marni Nixon the credit she deserved for her share of the singing in The King and I.
Anne Larsen is a peak late 1950s bisexual with big MILF energy. Have you seen the behind the scenes pics of her wearing a suit?? Have you????? Vote Deb as Anne Larsen.
Tumblr media
Nominated for an Oscar six (6) times and never won, but besides her having actual talent (hot), and besides her looking Like That (very hot, also beautiful), she was always playing women who are, like, crazy repressed. Which makes it fun and easy for me to read these characters as queer. Icon!!!! You know what's hot? Playing ambiguously gay in vintage Hollywood.
Tumblr media
Her face and talent and body, yes, ofc, duh. But also!!! Her HANDS!!!! I may be but a simple lesbian, but she is the best hactor (hand actor) that ever lived and that's HOT! For propriety's sake I feel I must redact a large portion of my commentary on this subject. Anyway. She's hot in her most famous roles (mentioned above), and also some of her sexiest hacting is on display in An Affair to Remember (her hand on the bannister when Cary Grant kisses her off-screen??? HELLO???), Tea and Sympathy (when she's trying to persuade Tom not to go out and she keeps flexing her hands like she wants to reach out to him but can't??? ALLY BEHAVIOR! WE STAN!), and The Innocents (which opens and closes with extended shots of her hands bc director Jack Clayton was also an ally and he did that for ME). Much of her appeal also lies in the fact that she often played deeply repressed characters and you know what's hot? When those uptight characters finally unravel. It's sexy. It's cathartic. It's erotic. Plus, she's beautiful to look at in both black & white and technicolor, and the more of her films you see, the more you can't help but fall in love!
Tumblr media
Literally is in thee most famously sexy scene of all time (or maybe just during the hays code era which is what we're talking about HELLO), which is the beach scene with Burt Lancaster in from here to eternity. To quote a tumblr post of a screen capture of a tweet of a video of joy behar on the view: "y'know, there used to be movies where they were kissing on the beach... From Here to Eternity. They're kissing-- Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr are Kissing on the Beach and then the WAVES crash!! You know exactly what they did!"
She might have a reputation of being chaste and virginal or whatever, but we all know it's the quiet ones who are certifiable FREAKS

To say you had a crush on the white haired prodigy captain was too little, it was an understatement.
Years ago, decades ago, it could have been looked at as a crush like one of those in those shoujo manga Rukia had told you about after coming back from the human world.
Now, and for quite some time, it was pure affection and love, it was far more than admiration and enchantment from his good looks. It was you liking everything about him, feeling as if the world wasn’t so bad when he appeared in a space you were in.
But as everything happened, there was still a distance between you two. He was a busy captain that most of the time had to spend his time with his own lieutenant or doing paperwork rather than socialize with others. He had always been like that, when Isshin Shiba was Captain, Toshiro was still the workaholic he is at current times.
Your only way to be close to him as you were in the past was by being something like his personal assistant, bringing him everything he could crave in the midst of his day behind the desk. And then spark some conversation to make him relax a little.
Today was supposed to be no different than the others. But for once as you passed the hallways of the barracks with the tray in your hands and opened the door to his office, he wasn’t there.
It wouldn’t have been strange if only he had notified you and your partner, the third seat. A bit of anxiousness knotted in your throat as the only other times this happened was when the war was coming or any huge battle was being declared.
“Y/N?” The voice that calmed your soul echoed through the room, after a sigh you could see from the little space in the paper walls that he was on the patio outside.
A small smile appeared on your lips. “Toshiro.” You called him back, taking the tray back in your hands from the desk and handing towards him outside.
You didn’t miss the tsk at the sound of his name and you didn’t for sure miss the same grumble about calling him captain.
“Toshiro, you had me scared I thought you had gone to an emergency or something bad was happening.” You poured the hot tea in his mug. “But you were just out here.”
“Thank you.” He took his mug in his hands, blowing over it a little. “I just needed some fresh air, I was sat on that chair since yesterday night as I had to look over some reports and write my own. I needed a few minutes for a break.” He sighed.
He looked as tired as one could be, it pained your heart to only be able to witness and not doing much for him effectively. “Uhm… Do you want me to go? So I can give you space to rest?”
“No, no, it’s fine, stay here.” He put his hand on your forearm putting you back in place beside him. “We haven’t had much of a moment for some time, things were a bit easier when Isshin was captain.”
“No, they weren’t.” He chuckled at your bluntness. “You were still covering for the majority of his work.”
Silence settled, the two of you looked at the green, the flora and fauna of the garden, the chirping all around was soothing and a reflect of your current need of peace. Your body slumped, relaxing way too much, till the side of your head gently rested on his shoulder.
His body stiffened for a few seconds, relaxing knowing it is you.
You who stayed beside him for all of this time, you who could understand him, you who tried every day to make him smile with the few words you could exchange.
He didn’t know when exactly you two distanced yourself this much, that your touch could have him feeling nervous, you used to do it a lot before and he was fine with it.
Maybe he was so focused on work that he lost sight of his surroundings, lost sense to his own feelings. He closed his eyes, inhaling the scent of your perfume, his hand moving to find yours with his heart thumping against his rib cage and breath hitching when your finger entertained with his.
“Toshiro?” He hummed at you. “Can we do this more often?”
Your head turned as you asked the question, your face so close to his, looking and admiring his profile.
You both were wondering if the other could hear the loud beating of your hearts, if the heat one felt the other could too at such a distance.
His throat went dry as he hummed and nodded not trusting his own voice to be as secure and stoic as it is usually.
He turned towards you, blue eyes observing you back, half lidded, going back and forth between your eyes and your lips, plump and soft, that he wanted to try and savor.
You wondered who was the first that leaned in but your lips were on one another’s seconds later. It was soft and hesitant, there was no pressure at all, a lasting peck that had your eyes closed as the only thing that gripped were your hands.
Pulling away slightly, your eyes met, an evident blush on his face as he felt out of place and embarrassed on what to do next. Your smile calmed him as now you were the one that went in for another kiss, one that was more than the previous.
Your lips were moving slowly, picking up the pace by the second, tilting your head to the side for a deeper kiss, a low moan escaping your mouth as his hand went up to your waist while the other slipped from your hand and went up to the side of your face.
His thumb caressed your skin, the smacking of your lips wet from each other drowned in the outside noise. Your were praying and hoping for no one to come out of the shadows at this moment with everything escalating so fast.
He was sat up straight, pulling you to him, you seemed as if you were on your knees in front of him, your hands planted on the wooden floor were the only thing keeping you up.
Pulling away for some air, your breathing were heavy, your body disheveled in front of him, he only craved more. “Fuck-“
He smashed his lips against yours once more, this time you were both not shy to sounds you were making, he took the chance when a moan had your mouth open just enough to insert his tongue.
His grip on you was rougher, trying to feel more, you were a bit hesitant to respond to him, eventually you tried following his lead, tongue to tongue, his saliva mixing with yours messily. The heat in you pooled more and more, till your thighs were visibly squeezing to relieve the sensation, your hand went up to his captain robe, holding it as if your life depended on it.
His nails dug into your skin, at the moment he wasn’t the respectable captain and you weren’t the good tamed fourth seat that everyone could deem innocent, you were two friends that had fallen into the temptation after so long, two people whose only thought in mind was to strip off the robes you were wearing.
Feel the bare skin onto the other, unite into one and make love to suppress the current carnal desire that was taking over. You didn’t even care of your public position, how anyone passing by could see you.
The moans and groans were shamelessly loud, and as his hand fell onto your neck he fought the urge to slip his hand under it and taking it off. He whined a little, pulling away from you, pecking your smile face as he just hugged you close to him to keep it under control. Your arms wrapped around his waist as your half laid body leaned against his.
Your ear to his chest, let you hear his irregular heartbeat. “This is a superior-employee like relationship, it’s inappropriate in the same squad.” He muttered, reciting some rule he doesn’t even know if it exists.
“But I still want to try… to be with you… let’s try, please.” He could hear the slight pleading in your tone and even if you hid it there was probably some pain crossing your features, he couldn’t handle that.
He wouldn’t even deny this if he tried, not after what you two already started, he simply wanted more, here and once you two were home.
“We can try.”

Every fifty chapters or so, Kubo has to remind us that Rangiku is literally the best, and I love it every time I see it. Here she's making light of it, but Toshiro relying on her really is progress for him, and her delight is genuine-- these are the things you hope for, when you're mentoring a child prodigy.
I don't doubt that there was a time in the past-- say, twenty years ago-- when Toshiro had to rely on Rangiku, being a literal child appointed to command a combat division. But I'd imagine that partly because he felt he had to command the respect of his troops, and partly to prove his own self-sufficiency to himself, he began pushing her away, needing to assert his independence.
Which is all fine and good! That's something every kid goes through! But it's nice to see that he's now level-headed enough to realize that he's stronger with people by his side.

One thing that always hit me in Bleach fandom is that some people see Hitsugaya as a literal child in the main history, even tho we get glimpses of his childhood - and a lot of Hinamori haters use that as an argument of why hitsuhina would never happen. I particularly see him as a young teenager with an obvious problem of aging (😂) and I’m glad to see blogs just like yours that perceive his youth, but doesn't put him as a kid and also explore his feelings towards things and people who are dear to him in a way really loyal to the character (because putting him acting as an adult also give me awkward vibes, you know). Just a thing I was minding, you can take it as a compliment, I guess.
Sorry for the late reply anon!
I want to start off this response by saying for anyone who does see Toshiro as being a child, more power to them if it helps appreciate his character more.
I have to admit one of the main reason I saw him as a teenager in the beginning is because I was a teen myself when I started reading BLEACH and assumed any character who didn't obviously look like an adult/child/elder or had an ambiguous age was probably a teenager. That's probably a weird reason, but that's how my brain worked while reading BLEACH at that age ^^;
There were other factors too, like his reactions to others referring to him as a child, the flashbacks to his childhood, and that he was able to pass as a student at a high school.
His reactions in particular are what convinced me he's not a child, they struck me as not just someone who was demanding respect for his high ranking position but also as someone who's sick of people thinking he's a child because of his appearance. I've always seen it as because of his short stature and maybe a baby face, everyone mistakes him for being a child when he's actually a teenager.
As for the flashbacks, when I compare his appearance from back then to the one in the main story, to me there's a noticeable different. As a child, his eyes and face are rounded and he's obviously shorter. In the main storyline, his eyes shape changed (perhaps to reflect the change he underwent as a Shinigami), making them look more narrow and sharper, his face is slightly sharper, and he's taller (not by much but).
Then there's the recent revelation from Kubo that Toshiro is actually older than Momo. I've seen most people take this to mean he's literally older than her, which would strongly suggest he isn't a child, because then how old would that make Momo (who is definitely not a child)? If this interpretation is the correct one, then I'm okay with that. However, as I've mentioned before, I've actually taken this to mean he's been in the Soul Society longer than she has (if you're interested, you can read more on it here).
In the end, as stated many times on here, aging in BLEACH is weird. How come Unohana isn't as old looking as Yamamoto if they existed together long before the Soul Society was established? What the heck is going on with Kyouraku and Nanao's families? The list goes on.
Also, thank you for your kind words too, I'm glad that's how my writing comes across for him :D I find it interesting to explore how someone like Toshiro reacts to things, whether they're mundane or life and death situations. While not a child, he's still a minor who has put himself in a world of huge responsibility, and death and violence. How does someone that young, despite being a prodigy and having a mental maturity that's suitable for the role, think and feel about what he does? How does he view those around him? How does it affect his relationships? What kinds of memories does he keep from his past and how are they different someone else his age? It's all interesting to me.
Anyhow, I'll leave it here. Thanks for sending this in! :D

For Bleach and Naruto buddies Neji would meet Toshiro and the two reserved, super serious prodigies wouldn't say a word to each other, game recognises game
They get Ramen, play Mario kart, chess, etc without ever saying a word yet somehow they're besties
Bonus if they end sitting next to Fugaku at the movies. To much serious energy in one place 😂
Yes! And also judging everyone around them✨

Presenting you: K-pop AU Hitsuhina
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: the story was born based on me mashing up two things I'm obsessed about (Kpop and Anime), so please bear with my weeb + kboo ass in the writings if many stuffs doesn't really make sense. Also, this was huge excuse for me to see them wearing SOPA and Hanlim school uniform ;w;
Profile
Tumblr media
Momo (18) is a 3rd grade SOPA student, and an idol trainee, who's recently terminated her contract with her previous agency as they kept delaying her debut after she trained for 5 years and ended up didn't include her into their new girl group lineup. She choose to focusing back on studying to enter a university, while still wishing for her dream to perform on a stage become true sooner or later.
Tumblr media
Toshiro (16) is in his 1st grade in Hanlim, a music prodigy and an aspiring producer who loves to work alone, both for his practical music assignment at school or even his personal project due to his idealism. He didn't grow much friendships before meeting Momo and the music crew.
Brief Story
Toshiro receive an invitation from his school senior, Renji, to join a newly made independent label he's being part of as a producer, after knowing his music genre preference and ability. Toshiro a bit hesitant to join first, but after Renji mentioned the one of the figures who formed the label, Toshiro decided to consider it, with intention of joining.
The two teenagers met when Toshiro was on his way to a meeting when his bus passes SOPA high school. On the other hand, Momo just finished a school errand that cause her to went home later than usual.
Tumblr media
Toshiro gave her an empty seat - unconsciously - when she actually just laid her eyes towards him - due to his combination of white hair and charismatic yet child-like visual - in awe. She choose to sit on the given space at the end.
Both of them thought it will only be one time encounter, until Momo accidentally left her planner on her seat and Toshiro noticed it right away. The incident makes him had no other choices but to chase her and return the item, despite he's fully aware it will cause him coming late to the meeting, for some reason.
Toshiro manage to catch her by pulling her backpack backward abruptly, which makes Momo both shocked and furious by his rudeness. Toshiro return the planner and Momo took it with a quick thanks. She then asked further if he saw any content from the planner - since the cover were transparent - which he immediately decline. Before he get a chance to about to ask back, she already permit herself to attend an academy.
---------------------
Toshiro manage to attend right in time for the meeting, and even pass the production trial test from the crew's leader, Shinji. Later that day, after the meeting, one of the crew member, Rangiku, shows excitement because their upcoming sixth and last member would be a girl. Toshiro shows no interest, but overheard the information that the last member is on the same age with Renji, so Toshiro expected the member is two years older than himself.
Two days later, he's surprised to spot Momo on his label building, and Shinji revealed she's the hidden last member. He later mentioned one of their first big project is to debuting Momo, and Toshiro will be in charge of the song production, with Shinji and Rangiku as his supervisors.
Months have passed. Momo and Toshiro grew closer as the producer and the future artist in the same label. One night, Toshiro, who just finish his recent work from studio, found Momo still dancing in the practice room. They both took a walk for coffees, where Momo shares her struggles with Toshiro being a great listener to her. She finally told him why she was mad toward Toshiro during their first meeting and even accused him for peeking through her planner, as there's a contract termination letter inside it. Later she express her thoughts of leaving the entertainment industry forever if this time she failed again. Toshiro reassure her that she'll do well, and confess about how she's been his muse ever since they worked together, hence he wished she didn't stop chasing her dream. Momo was touched to hear it, and felt grateful to ever met not only a genius, but unexpectedly kind-hearted producer like him in such a harsh industry.
They maintain their relationship platonically, but that blooming time still greets them after all. They date each other some times after Momo debut (which she had graduated from highschool), but they only revealed their relationship to public after Toshiro's graduation, because the crew kept getting involved in several magazine pictorials after each of them make their own releases and held fanmeeting tour left and right. The photoshoot team also keep putting HH in the same model unit, that fans starting to ship them. Knowing this, they later saw it as a green light to confirm it to the public.
Tumblr media
Fun fact = I've been clowning myself with the doodle above as I just found out the real life SOPA and Hanlim school were located on opposite edges of Seoul city respectively. Therefore, it's impossible for them to go to school in the morning together. But then, this mistake just create a cuter scenario;
Toshiro ((MOST LIKELY)) would travel all the way from Songpa district to Guro district and wait for Momo in front of her school gate. Then, they would walk to the bus station with joined hands while Momo expose a huge amount of PDA/aegyo toward Toshiro despite she's being the older one //laughs//
For a meantime, this is what I have in my head. I can't promise anyone to continue the story and explain further details that I missed, but if I ever have something in mind about this AU again, I will upload it randomly haha. So feel free to ask anything you're curious about and I'll try to answer it as much as I can ^^ have a nice day :)

Last episode dug up this thought I have been playing with for years now: I wonder how high the ceiling is for Toshiro
We know that he is a prodigy - made obvious not only by the fact that we are told but also by the fact that he became a Captain at quite a young age. This in itself isn't too crazy, considering the fact that there are other prodigies present within the narrative. Gin Ichimaru was regarded as a prodigy as well
However, Toshiro seems to be different even from other prodigies. The whole fact that his bankai wasn't even perfected (which is crazy) aside, there are some narrative points which really make me wonder about his potential
Shunsui (one of the oldest and strongest Captains of the Gotei) himself wagers that Toshiro will surpass him in about a hundred years. Considering he has been around for a good while, I take it as a rather accurate estimate
Tumblr media
Which is insane if you think about it. Shunsui has at least abour a 1000 years on him and yet guesses that it would take him about a hundred years to surpass him
On the other hand we have something that became very clear during the last episode. Toshiro's bond with his Zanpakuto seems to be extraordinarily strong. Aside from Ichigo, Renji and Shunsui, the manga doesn't give us all that much information about the Zanpakuto spirits. Shunsui's was shown out of a narrative need, as it played an essential role in his and Nanao's story and Ichigo is the MC. Renji's was shown for us to grasp the concept of how there is the possibility that might not be perfectly aligned with their Zanpakuto. Ichigo is the MC... Self explanatory
Meanwhile we did not just get this show of trust in the last episode but also an entire chapter add-on dedicated to the awakening of Hyorinmaru/Hitsugaya's initial meeting with him. It's intriguing. Why does the manga emphasize so much on this connection?
On top of that, we also received all these motifs that seem to parallel Yamamoto (something I have talked about in more detail in the past). Shaking Kubo by the shoulders as I wonder if all of this is just favoritism of some sort or if there is truly something very special about him that is still waiting for us to discover it

gin and rangiku drive me to madness… (BLEACH SPOILERS… i’m serious!) they knew each other when they were children in poverty in rukongai and aizen violated her soul and stole an essence of it, which was so severe she lost her memories. gin had witnessed this and her first memory after waking up is gin offering her persimmons. it’s really tragic from the start, he’s a prodigy and goes on to join the soul society and she sees all of his actions as him leaving her behind even when she becomes strong too. but everything he is doing over these lifetimes is to ‘get back’ what was taken from her even if he becomes a villain working with the man he detests. from the beginning he says, “i’ve decided. i’m going to become a shinigami and change things. so that things will end without rangiku crying”. this is not excusing his actions, but even as a character he knew he was going to become evil from start. even his zanpakto is a reflection of his soul. he sees himself as a snake.
it also must have been extra painful when her new captain was another young white haired prodigy and seeing momo become aizen’s lieutenant… momo and toshiro are younger mirrors of rangiku and gin with less traumatic history and aizen plays with them all… (i could go on abt this but i won’t)
even at the end when he is dying, he doesn’t try to make himself seem like he’s actually good, he knows that he is bad and kubo’s writing doesn’t excuse gin either. instead it is this bittersweet loss and it leaves us feeling terrible because there is no exposition describing greater motives. it is bittersweet because they were never together except for the time before as children and teens. it is bittersweet because there are so many what ifs - what if he had told rangiku, what if they could try and heal together, what if they could be happy together. when he dies, he is by himself and it’s rangiku who runs to him during battle, the only one who would ever mourn him and she still doesn’t get an explanation or any words. it’s all quite tragic really.

more Gin Ichimaru headcanons that No One asked for (1/2)
(This post is about Gin Ichimaru from BLEACH. It is talking about eating disorders so TW for talk about weight, mental health, and self-destructive behavior)
Gin has an eating disorder.
Or, has cycled through many eating disorders over the years.
Let me list some canon traits he has that could mean he has a disorder (with pictures!).
First off, and most obvious: He's abnormally thin. I mean, just look at his wrists? Also his narrower face, prominent collar bones and jugular.
Tumblr media
His actual personality isn't known, even though he was well known by his squad, popular in the Soul Society and could even be considered friends other squad captains. "Gin" was simply a character for the outside world. This can be a sign of emotional isolation, which individuals with eating disorders tend to do as these disorders can have feeling of hopelessness and low self-esteem. It can also be attributed to people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and trauma.
In Gin's case I attribute him hiding his true self to his possible insecurities and lower self esteem (you can also say he has had lots of pressure on him because of his prodigy status in the academy). High expectations and stereotypes can lead to imposter syndrome, low self esteem, and a desire for control in one's life. That control is often found in the restriction of food and the numbers on a scale...
Even Rangiku, (regardless of what he believed he needed to keep secret from her because of Aizen) didn't know basic things about his life, it could mean he possibly didn't think he was good enough for her. I assume that she didn't know much about his life during captaincy because when we get flashbacks from her life that involve Gin, he is usually portrayed as his child self. Everything Rangiku believes and knows about Gin is from their childhood together (The Gin we see in her vision, after the battle with Aizen, while she's standing outside the cave Toshiro is training in, is still her imagination based on child Gin).
Tumblr media
He really really likes persimmons. You may be thinking "Alice that general Gin Knowledge that's his biggest personality point" and you're right. But if I stretch it a bit, it's his safe food. He eats mostly persimmons (besides from the fact that it's probably the only thing he could get as a child) and he made sure that the 3rd division filled it's garden with the trees. Many people with eating disorders have a food they are hyper-focused on. Also, he was known to give out the persimmons whenever he "dried too many" (Bleach Official Bootleg). Perhaps they were a binge trigger?
TW AND NOTE (AGAIN):
FROM HERE I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT BMI AND EXACT HEIGHTS AND WEIGHTS.
NOTE: GIN ICHIMARU IS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER AND IS IN NO WAY CONNECTED TO REALITY AND HUMAN PHYSICAL HEALTH.
I UNDERSTAND BMI IS NOT A MEASURE OF ONE'S PHYSICAL OR MENTAL HEALTH. FOR THE SAKE OF MY ARGUMENT, I WILL BE CALCULATING GIN'S BMI FROM THE DATA PROVIDED ON HIS WIKI PAGE
Gin's BMI (using the most recent BMI calculator) at 73 inches and 152lbs is 19.15. The underweight BMI point range for adult males is 17.501-20.70.
According to BMI, Gin is classified as underweight.
Remember "less than 6% of people with eating disorders are medically diagnosed as “underweight.” Nevertheless, if we take in his BMI when looking at the possibility of him having an eating disorder (and not, say, just a fast metabolism) all of these observations lead me to believe that he is affected by either anorexia or bulimia.
And that is all for canon evidence that sparked my headcanon
Headcanon coming up in part 2

summary: [TYBW] Innocence is the greatest casualty of War. Fifth Division Captain Hirako Shinji remembers a moonlit conversation. He learns about sacrifice. He teaches about humility.
[read on ao3]
"Hirako-taichou, don't sleep!" Vice-Captain Hinamori tried to wake up her napping Captain.
"Zz..uh..wha-", Captain Hirako Shinji muttered as he lazily opened one eye. Spying his petite lieutenant beside his desk holding a mountain-load of paperwork, he grew even more tired. "Momo-chan, it's the calm before the storm. We don't know when the Quincy will attack again so I'm getting all the rest I can," he yawned and tried to go back to sleep on his comfortable desk.
"We still have a lot of work to do! And you're getting drool all over the papers! Mou..." She growled half-heartedly, and then sighed in resignation, "I won't force you to work, but if you want to relax I think it's better if you take a walk instead. The moon's beautiful tonight and you'll get cramps sleeping like that."
Hirako-taichou waved an arm whilst still keeping his face on his desk, and it seemed like he would ignore her advice. Instead he stilled for a moment and stood up. "Alright, alright. I'll walk around and go back to my quarters after." He waved a relaxed good-bye at her, and exited.
If Hinamori was bothered by her Captain's unusual obedience, she didn't dwell on it too much. Instead she looked at the moon and quietly whispered, although there was no one else to hear, "I don't want to lose this." She sighed wistfully and went back to work.
-
Hirako Shinji went on a walk alright. Straight to his quarters where he knew a shadow was waiting for him. The light barely reached here, and it was only when the figure stepped into it that he could make out the white Captain's haori and equally white hair.
Shinji grinned as he greeted the shorter captain, "Toshiro! My, my isn't this a surprise? What brings you to my quarters this late at night? Just so you know I'm only interested in cute young girls, not boys."
Tenth Division Captain Hitsugaya Toshiro narrowed his eyes at him. Shinji thought he would growl but he was probably too "mature" for that. Instead he said in a clipped voice, "It's Hitsugaya to you Hirako. And don't pretend; you already knew I was here."
He had to chuckle. "Not Hitsugaya-taichou huh? Well you can't really pull rank on me, like you do with Momo-chan." Hitsugaya's famous frowning face turned even stormier. Hmm…He must have hit a button. Unfortunately for his fellow captain, Shinji loved to push buttons, "Speaking of Momo-chan, if you're here for her I can get her for you."
"Cut the crap. I'm here to talk to you."
"And what exactly would the famous prodigy need to talk to me about?"
Besides their shared hatred for Aizen, and relation to Hinamori, the two Captains didn't really have anything in common. He saw no reason for Hitsugaya to bring up his bitter enemy, so the reason would have to be…
If possible, Shinji's Cheshire grin grew even wider, "Even if you're not here for Momo-chan, you're here to talk about her." His silence was enough confirmation.
"Well young grasshopper, as your senpai I suppose I must explain to you the 'birds and the bees' before you try anything…"
He was interrupted by Hitsugaya's incredulous protest, "I'm not here to talk about that!"
"Huh, really? Isn't Momo-chan your first love and aren't you trying to get advice from Soul Society's one and only heartthrob?"
"Hinamori is my childhood friend and nothing more." He said it calmly but his cheeks were tinted with color. Interesting. His tone then turned irritated, "And not everyone is like you Hirako. I'm not here for something as trivial as that. "
Shinji cleaned his ear with a finger and said with a bored tone, "Then what are you here for then?"
He blew on his finger and waited as he looked at Hitsugaya's annoyed face. Perhaps the Tenth Division Captain was wondering why he even bothered to come in the first place. They were colleagues, but they weren't friends. It was clear that even after all this time, the younger captain still didn't fully trust him. Shinji really couldn't blame him though, considering that the previous Fifth Division Captain was a lying, backstabbing bastard. He couldn't trust some suspicious hollowfied shinigami with his precious childhood friend.
He told him as much before, and so he was surprised with the next words to come out of the Tenth Division Captain's mouth.
"I want you to protect Hinamori."
Huh. "Well if you're only here to state the obvious…" He passed Hitsugaya by to get to his quarters. He yawned loudly, "I mean it's not like it's a Captain's responsibility to protect their Vice-Captain." He was bushed, and as soon as he got to his quarters he was going to sleep like tomorrow would never come (it was possible that it might not), but his plans were impeded by a hand on his haori.
"You remember that final fight against Aizen?" Hitsugaya asked without asking.
Shinji faced the symbol of the Tenth on Hitsugaya's back, and couldn't see his expression. Of course he remembered. He remembered how powerless he was, how powerless they all were to stop Aizen's sick plan of barbecuing an innocent girl as a distraction.
From what he garnered from his talk with Momo, it seemed like Aizen did way more damage even before that fateful battle, to her, and by extension to Hitsugaya. Shinji always believed that his hatred for Aizen was unmatched by anyone. But on that day, as he was forced to watch the Captain before him run his childhood friend through the heart, and after hearing his desolate and rage-filled scream, he thought that maybe someone else could hate Aizen even more than him.
"Yeah." Shinji stood still and wondered where he was going with this.
"Something like that..something like that.." Shinji noticed how he gripped his hands into fists, "I don't want something like that happening to Hinamori ever again."
"That's why I'm here to ask a favor. Keep her with you at all times. Don't let her get into any battles on her own. I know it's selfish of me to ask you, but I know I won't be there to protect her. I can't afford to get distracted, and if you protect her, I won't have to worry as much."
He laughed softly and bitterly and finally turned to face him though his eyes were still hooded, "I said a favor, but I actually need to ask you to do a second thing. If I'm ever in a position where I might potentially harm Hinamori," Hitsugaya looked up and met his eyes. The resolve Shinji saw there reminded him of Ichigo and for some reason that scared him, "I want you to kill me."
With those words hanging in the air, the tension was palpable. That is, until Shinji guffawed and laughed in the face of a very flabbergasted Hitsugaya. Once his laughter died down, he looked at Hitsugaya and said in a patronizing tone, "That's hilarious! Selfish is right, you brat."
It was clear that Shinji had pushed him to his limit. The overly serious Captain tried so hard not to act his age, but there were times where his youth was clearly evident to Shinji. Times like now.
As a vein popped in Hitsugaya forehead, Shinji was eerily reminded of blonde pigtails and a red tracksuit.
"I’m serious, you bastard!” How they hadn't woken up the entire Squad Five barracks was a mystery to Shinji, as the pint-sized captain continued to shout, "She has to survive this war! She can't die because there are people who love her!"
His voice had quieted down and in a defeated tone he finished with, "Though she cares for Hinamori, I can't ask Matsumoto to be prepared to kill her own Captain."
Shinji was very tempted to bonk him on the head, though he was pretty sure such a gesture would be met with a furious freezing. Instead he settled for saying, "And that's exactly why you're selfish; for even thinking of asking such a thing from your Vice-Captain…" He shook his head, "And what about you, huh? Aren't there people who care for you too?"
"What happens to me doesn't matter."
"We really need to deflate that ego." He tried to stare down the ice Captain's unwavering gaze,
"Luckily, you came to the right place to learn a little humility. Not everything revolves around you Chibi-taichou. Don’t be so cocky." Shinji felt not a small amount of déjà vu. He distantly remembered saying the same thing to Ichigo a long time ago. It wasn’t as if he didn’t sympathize with their anguish, but for people like Hitsugaya and Ichigo who carried too much – the world – on their shoulders that they forgot their own selves, it was better to rile them up with anger than to encourage that self-destructive way of thinking. He respected that resolve, but what kind of captain would he be if he couldn’t pull his own lieutenant’s dear one from the brink? Least of all did Momo deserve that kind of sorrow and pain on her shoulders ever again.
At the comment about his size, he looked prepared to murder Shinji then and there. Good. Anything was better than that hopeless gaze, "What about your lieutenant? How do you think she'll feel if she loses you on top of Ichimaru?" Hitsugaya looked shocked, but he charged on with his tirade.
"And what about Momo-chan herself? You really think she won't be affected if you die?" He challenged him, daring him to reply.
He didn't avert his gaze, but he didn't reply either. Finally, in a dull monotone he ordered him, "Don't call her 'Momo-chan'. Respect her rank."
Shinji shrugged and replied, "Not my fault you're too stubborn to be familiar with her," He conceded and told him, "I'll call her 'Momo' from now on."
"I've known her for far longer than you!" He snapped at him, and as if shamed for showing such weakness, he looked down briefly at the ground and continued in a calmer tone, "And that's not any better."
"If you have a problem with it, settle it with me after the war," Shinji said grinning cheekily at him, and added as if an afterthought. "And you're right about me knowing."
Hitsugaya raised his brow at his retreating figure.
"I've known about you since you were in your mother's womb," He called out and then continued in a sing-song voice, still not facing him, "Shiro-chan."
Hitsugaya spluttered incoherently for a moment and by the time he gathered his wits enough to berate him with a, "It's Hitsugaya-taichou to you!" Hirako Shinji had already disappeared into the night.
Left with no choice but to go back to his own barracks, he briefly took the time to appreciate the full moon. Soon, he might not get to anymore.
-
"Childhood friends, huh?" Hirako Shinji sat directly outside his room and raised the cup he was holding to the moon, as if in a toast. "Maybe I should call Hiyori and the others before the world goes to hell." He smiled in amusement to no one in particular and downed his sake in one gulp.
As a lone figure shunpoed along the tiled roofs to get back to his division, one thought remained clearly embedded in his mind. It was in the mind of the one celebrating with the moon. It was in the mind of the one who worked hard and eventually fell asleep blessed by the moon's glow. It was in the minds and hearts of every Shinigami preparing for the coming war.
"I don't want to lose what's important to me."

I won’t lie, I look forward to seeing Toshiro the most. He’s been my favorite character since I was in middle school. Enjoy this fanart I made of the silver haired prodigy! ❄️🐉

toshiro has canonically been confirmed to be older than momo. she used to be in one class with renji and izuru so that point genuinely doesn't stand
Actually my point still stands! In Toshiro's backstory we can see that he was way younger than Momo actually, to the point where Hinamori said this:
Tumblr media
It's stated that Toshiro entered the academy younger than the average age (which is tween/teen years), meaning that he still was a child, most captains were young adults when they "won" this spot, meanhwhile Toshiro wasn't, meaning again that he was a minor when he became such, no dobut why he's called child prodigy in actual bleach timeline, not just in the past. In a interview Kubo said that he wanted a childlike character:
Tumblr media
But yeah, it's totally possible to Toshiro be older than Momo meanwhile being a child! The reason is simple, it already was said that his reaitsu is way too strong, which made he age slower than anyone else, so he may be existed for a longer time, but he didn't grew up during this period. Since Momo and Hitsugaya were raised together, we can imply that he knew her since she was an infant, Toshiro literally saw her grow up meanwhile remaining a kid. So he's older existence wise, because his body and mental age still remains childlike.

not to be that person but I will be that person
the reason Nanao couldn't swing a sword in the first place, and needed "support" was because Shunsui (and her mother) nerfed her from the start taking away the sacred treasure sword and the Ise family heritage
Tumblr media
it came from a good place, especially the mother who only wanted to save her daughter, and Shunsui honoring the wish of the woman he loved but... the choices of the adults that came to this world before her made it so she had to fight with both hands tied against her back (and more so, if we account for the emotional trauma and confusion that caused her: Nanao is a natural user of Kido, and to get along this far without materializing a sword? She could have been a child prodigy like Toshiro if cards weren't stolen/hidden from her deck in an attempt to erase generations of history to protect her). She needs Shunsui because he tied her hands so she would need Shunsui to move around. (Which is why the Ise-Kyoraku family story arc is a rich one, as both dysfunction and love, at the family/families core are not simple like someone abused another person, but rather come from a sequence of choices family members made with their heart in the right place but optimizing only locally: to what they believed to be right tied to their own core beliefs and attitudes and behavior, and to the person they passed it down to thinking of one generation at the time because no one could see past their daughters or nieces to grandkids or the family heritage and line in a long timespan. How do you think of your own grandchildren or great grandchildren if you will never meet them?)
here we also see the selfishness of both Shunsui and the sister-in-law, and a point where it could have worked out between the two of them, because the moment she entrusts Shunsui the sword, she is no longer the perfect picture of a woman in the garden that he grew up admiring, but a woman of flesh and flaws that he still chose to love. So the story goes that the mom tried her best to protect her daughter, but it is a selfish choice in two points. First she is using guilt to convince Shunsui: (1) you are the only one left from the family I loved aka your brother's, the family I chose over the family I was stuck with/born into aka the Ise family), (2) using his own manwhore personality against him in that the man is weak to women/can't say no to them and also can't make a decision (Shunsui is a man of indecisions and more on this in another post), (3) without knowing using the secret love he has for her that makes him willing to comply to her demands and it is a big demand she is making not to her husband (dead) or to her blood family, but to a man that is in-laws with her only and has no romantic or sexual connection to her. But the most important selfish factor is the choice to hide the sword herself: why is the sword cursed and who decides what a curse is? And who decides what the function of that curse shall be generations down a line, where it could be a blessing in return (Nanao using it to defeat a god-like creature and will return to this point in a moment)? The mom was making what she believed to be the right decision, selfishly to her own worldview, because the perceived romantic happiness of her daughter in the future was worth more to her than the Ise family legacy of generations and the fact that a sword was so powerful to save her daughter one day (both Shunsui and Nanao would have died otherwise if Nanao didn't swing her sword): the sword would have been of great help to her daughter, but the mother only prioritized romantic concerns not thinking once if romantic concerns are what Nanao will be solely concerned with. The sister in law hides the sword, effectively, not for Nanao, but for a self 2.0 that may not be cursed with a dead husband and a trapping family. It has to be herself she sees (funny the sword is a mirror sword) because she cannot possibly know what Nanao of 4 or 5 may want in life. She's similar to Shunsui in this way, because both the sister in law and Shunsui prioritize concerns of the heart, him first by taking the sword (a big burden that can get you executed or cursed) from the mother, and then by watching over Nanao to an extent that he as an uncle didn't have to--it is the magnanimous heart that redeems his drunkard womanizing personality because this man is loyal to those he loves, even after 1000 years. But Shunsui is selfish because he is prioritizing what the woman he loved wanted, to hide the sword forever, as opposed to what would work best for Nanao and her temperament and her wants. If the Quincy War never happened would he never tell Nanao he was her uncle? Would he never show the sword but take it with him to his death? And even before that, how the sword caused the mom to be executed, ending the Ise family line and crushing the few matriarch families in Soul Society, and how Nanao was raised never meeting her father, losing her mother early on, being raised by an old couple, having no one to literally hold her until Shunsui does at the end of her first sword fight. By both their decisions, the adults complicated Nanao's life by taking away her right to choose her heritage and the parts of the heritage she wants to keep. (Also interesting how Shunsui's power is a play of shadows, and he hides the heritage, but Nanao is a reflection (of light) so she faces the truth and consequences of bearing the sword head-first.)
What's interesting is that both Shunsui and Nanao are failed family members, because no one continues their family's legacy. In a way they are spared bc they are the only people of both families that are single, and are rewarded with staying alive. They both prioritize family and career and friends over romantic pursuits, which is why the curse doesn't affect Nanao, because the worse thing that can happen to her, her definition of curse is not that people she loves will die (she is used to it) but that they will die as she watches and she cannot prevent them. So the Ise sword serves to protect her uncle, instead. But it's selfish to take away her ability to choose: if she rejects the sword or keeps it, or meets the families halfway making it her own, which she does. (It's interesting that both families crumbled to the ground because of the choices of each family member, for better or worse.)
Lastly, this is why I feel shunnao as a ship is not romantic or platonic, but symbolic at this point. Nanao using the sword and living, the sword granting her survival, is a way for Shunsui to glimpse into a parallel reality where the sister in law survived; where she could have been happy, and where it could have worked out between the two of them, because it did work out between him and Nanao now that there are no shadows. It matters that Nanao is not lonely like the sister in law, and Nanao is no longer lonely. (I don't think Shunsui is looking for a woman to fix him at this point, but he wants to see what could have been, and that in one lifetime they were happy, and he got that wish in the end. Not in his lifetime, but in another lifetime they were happy, and the theater suicide ends up with love not death.)
(I wish Kubo had more about the two families, because even as Shunsui and Nanao fix their relationship, it is still dysfunctional to some extent bc of the circumstances and not their behavior, so it's quite interesting to see that. Also the idea of calamity as a series of locally-optimized decisions, where need is met against need, and because people can't see in the order of a family timespan or cultural and heritage timespan? People trying their best and making things worse and worse. The black sheep of both families surviving? And the idea that selfishness can be misguided love, because we can't know our grandkids or even children if we never meet them. And what is a curse? Maybe your own reflection.)
(another thing in how the sister in law was selfish, I do think she knew she would get executed. So you can read it as she loved her daughter so much that she was fine with it. Or you can read it as she loved her husband more, and that life without him was a drag, and that she is wanted to die, and that calling Shunsui over to arrange matters such as who will take care of nanao--him by guilt tripping--was her making her will so all affairs were taken care of and all treasures (the sword) were divided, so there was nothing more left to do before she left this world. In a way, the sword was her unwritten will, and she called him for that, reuniting with family one last time, before she was planning to die. She wasn't saving her daughter, she was giving out her belongings the same way you give out the clothes of the deceased in some cultures.)

Chapter 1:
In the year 2158, there was a war that completely destroyed the balance of the worlds. In the world of death, a world that was neither heaven or hell, just a limbo between life and rebirth, there was death filled the entire afterlife.
However, there was a 5'11 man standing, completely out of breath after pushing his exhausted body to finish off the remaining hollows. His hair was suppose to be snowy white and spiky but was stained half crimson and covered in brown. Crimson comes from his and his enemies blood. Brown from the dirt and dust of the battle. His eyes used to be turquoise, a bright amazing colour but they were now a dull, lifeless turquoise. Unlike his usual clothing which was a black Shihakusho with a white sleeveless hiaori, his clothes was completely different. A white open ruined jacket with a frozen collar and the ends of his sleeves are frozen. His pants were white and had holes in them, a black belt that barely stayed on his waist. His feet, which acted as shoes, were frozen to his shins. Although the colour of his clothes was suppose to be white, it's very obvious that they turn a greyish red colour from the dirt and blood. His tanned skin was also cut and bruised.
This man was the Tenth Division's taichou, Toshiro Hitsugaya. He was a child prodigy and the youngest taichou in history. He is the sole survivour in the entire three worlds. Shaking in pain, he walked over to a collapsed building and sat down. He looked down at his Zanpakuto, the strongest ice zanpakuto in history. "Hyorinmaru?" Toshiro coughed out. "Master..." He heard the dragon's voice, it was filled with worry. "This is the end, isn't it?" Hyorinmaru hummed in agreement. He didn't like the fact that his master was in so much pain and that the soul society, world of the living and hueco mundo was collapsing. Toshiro closed his eyes and relaxed his body, with some struggle, waiting for death to take him.
A hand brought him out of his acceptance darkness. He struggled to open his eyes and once the blurriness passed, Toshiro took in the appearance of the person in front of him.
A man was stood in front of him with his hand on Toshiro's forehead, using healing kido to heal Toshiro the best he can. He was very, very pale, but not sickly pale, just someone-who-hasn't-seen-the-sun-at-all pale. His hair was long and black, it reminded the taicho of the previous thirteenth division taicho, Jushiro Ukitake. The man was wearing, what looked to be, a standard Shinigami uniform. If it wasn't for the Reiatsu that the prodigy was sensing, he would've believed he was a survivor. The man's eyes interested Toshiro the most. They were blue, but a blue he's never seen. It's like he can see the sky in the man's eyes.
"W-Who are you?" Toshiro asked. The man smiled softly. "I'm the Soul King, don't worry, I'm not Yhwach, he's gone and I was left behind." He said, seeing Toshiro's shocked expression. "There's not enough time, Hitsugaya-taichou. The balance is destroyed with all the death that has happened and all the worlds are collapsing. I need to ask you a favour." Toshiro frowned hearing that but he had already figured that the worlds were collapsing. "What is it you need, sir?" The Soul King stood up and offered a hand to Toshiro. "Not here." Toshiro took the hand and stood up. It was a good thing as the building Toshiro was resting on collapsed again but this time, the floor beneath it collapsed and the building and floor disintegrate into the abyss. Toshiro's eyes widened. "Come with me." The king said. Toshiro nodded and the king teleported them to another realm.
The King and Toshiro had entered the Soul King Realm. Toshiro's eyes widened with the amount of destruction that was the realm. He couldn't even sense the noble members of Squad Zero. The King guided Toshiro to a part of the Soul King realm, that he had no idea existed. The King turned to Toshiro with a serious expression. "Hitsugaya-taichou, what I'm about to ask you is the upmost important thing that will need to be kept a secreteven in death, understand?" Toshiro nodded. "Yes sir." The king sighed softly before suddenly coughing violently making Toshiro catch him before he fell. "Your Majesty!"
"Hitsugaya-taichou, I need you to return to the past, way before you were born, before Aizen Sosuke became a Shinigami." Toshiro eyes widened at the words coming out the most powerful being's mouth. "Are you sure I'm the right person?" The king smiled tiredly. "I can't think of anyone else that would be the best person for this job." He shakily stood up straight and headed over to a doorway that looked broken. He turned over to Toshiro. "Hitsugaya-taichou, don't allow anyone to know you're from the future and make sure you murder Aizen before he becomes immortal." Toshiro's eyes narrowed as he nodded. "Understood my lord." Toshiro said.
The king's serious face melted into relief. "Thank you, Hitsugaya-taichou." He then snapped his fingers making the doorway light up. "There is no return, Hitsugaya-taichou." Toshiro then smirked. "I never expected to return once you told me about your plan." The king chuckled softly. "I'll be sealing a lot of your reiatsu away, so you'll have to train and wait for some time until it unlocks. Some require time while others will require training. Good luck, Hitsugaya Toshiro." Toshiro nodded in understandment and walked into the doorway.
The King watched the light from the doorway dimmed and it was no more. He turned around and watches as the worlds repair itself, slowly. "It's probably going to take centuries for the worlds to fully repair itself. Good luck, taichou." The king said to himself.
Toshiro woke up in a forest 200 years before he actually does in his original timeline and he arrived 50 years before Ichigo invaded the Soul society. He sits up from his laying-stomach position. By looking at his tiny hands, he quickly came to the dreadful conclusion that he was in his child-like body again. Toshiro shakily stands up and looks around his environment and notices the forest was familiar to him. ‘I think I’m in Junrinan.’ Toshiro thought to himself.
Once Toshiro managed to gain his balance, he dusted his green kimono that was quite similar to his kimono that he wore before meeting Rangiku. He ran his hand through his snowy white hair and slowly walked to Junrinan town. However, once Toshiro managed to get used to his small legs, his pace quickened.
The town was exactly the same as Toshiro remembered it being from his childhood. When he entered the town, many residents glanced at him and whispered to the other person. Toshiro already gathered what they’re talking about as he had already been through this before. He looked around, looking for the leader of the town without asking for help from the residents.
“Are you lost, young man?” An elderly voice spoke from behind Toshiro. Toshiro stopped walking and turned his body to the side to look at the elder who spoke to him. Toshiro instantly recognised her as his granny, just younger, but he knew he couldn’t call her that as they do not know each other and it would be disrespectful. Toshiro shook his head. “Not really. I’m looking for the elder of Junrinan.” Granny smiled at Toshiro and nodded. “Let me help you.” Toshiro’s eyes softened. “You don’t have to ma’am.” The woman just smiled. “I don’t but I want to. It doesn’t fit right with me if a young man such as yourself is wandering around lost.” Toshiro sighed softly, knowing he couldn’t argue with the woman he respects the most, even if she was from a different timeline. “Okay.” Toshiro said. The woman smiled and led Toshiro to the hut where the leader lives.
“I never got your name, young man.” Granny said, glancing at him at the corner of her eye. Toshiro turned to her slightly shocked, he never expected her to want to know his name as the way they met this time was much different than how they met originally. “My name is Toshiro Hitsugaya.” The woman smiled. “My name is Ayame Hinamori. It is lovely to meet you, Toshiro-kun.” Toshiro smiled lightly.
They soon got to the hut and Ayame knocked on the door. Soon the door opened to reveal another elder. The elder looked happy to see Ayame. “Ah! Ayame-san, how may I help you?” He asked, happily. Ayame smiled and looked at Toshiro. “This young man wanted to meet with you.” The elder looked at Toshiro, he was surprised by Toshiro’s colouring but he smiled and invited the two in but Ayame refused as she has things to do.
Toshiro found himself sitting in the large room in front of the firepit with a cup of green tea in his hands. “How may I help you, young man?” The elder asked kindly. Toshiro blew on his cup and frowned. “I was hoping to know the date and the events that are happening in the Seireitei. With Junrinan being right next to the Seireitei, I thought you, or at least someone, would know what will be happening.” The elder was surprised by Toshiro’s request. “I’m surprised that someone as young as you know what the Seireitei is. You look like you just arrived at the Soul Society.” Toshiro huffed softly and took a sip of his green tea. “I arrived a while ago and people do talk. One thing a lot of people believe is because I’m young, they think I just arrived at the Soul Society.” Toshiro half-lie to the elder. The elder blinked before chuckling a bit in embarrassment as he too believed that. “You are correct. As of right now, it is the year 1751.” Toshiro nodded. ‘204 years before my life as a human ended.’ Toshiro thought. ‘Which also means this is 250 years before everything goes to shit with Aizen.’ “I see. What about the Seireitei?” Toshiro asked. Elder hummed and drank some of his tea. “Not much is happening in the Seireitei. It’s just the same. Shinigamis defeat hollows and do what they usually do.” Toshiro nodded. “Thank you.” Toshiro said, drinking his tea. The elder then sighed. “The only problem that I’m aware of is dangerous.” Toshiro raised a brow. “Dangerous?” The elder nodded.
“Do you know a man called Koga Kuchiki?” asked the Elder. Toshiro knew the name from the Zanpakuto Rebellion, he was Byakuya Kuchiki’s uncle. “No, I've never heard of that name. Is he a noble?” Toshiro lied. The elder nodded. “Technically he’s not but he did marry into the family, so he is a noble but not blood-noble.” “Ah. So what is the deal with this Koga Kuchiki guy?” “Recently, he broke out of his prison and is now killing innocent Rukon citizens in other districts.” The elder sighed sadly, feeling sorry for the poor citizens that had been killed by a now insane Shinigami. Toshiro frowned, not liking what he heard. “That is not good.” “I agree.”
The two sat in silence until the elder spoke up again. “If you don’t mind me asking, young man, why did you want to know about the Seireitei? It couldn’t just be because people talk.” Toshiro smirked lightly. “I’m thinking of joining the Gotei 13 at some point.” The elder blinked in surprise. “Are you sure you want to? Even though you are much older than what you let on, I don’t think, with all due respect, they’ll allow someone as young as you to join the academy.” Toshiro shrugged. “Trust me, with what I have planned, they won’t have no choice but to let me join the Shin O Academy.” The Elder sighed. “I see. Well, good luck.” Toshiro nodded. “Thank you for the information, sir.” The elder smiled and nodded. “No problem, young man.”
After Toshiro finished his drink, he left the hut and walked away from the hut and town. He went back into the forest and sat down under a tree in a meditation position. He concentrated and went into his mindscape.
Toshiro opened his eyes and saw the familiar ice plane and snow covered ground. He could even see the tall mountains in the distance as well as the frozen lake nearby him. Toshiro stood up and noticed that he was in his adult form. “So, in my mindscape I’m in my adult form while in the outside world, I’m in my child form.”
A huge gust of cold wind brushed against him as well as a shadow covering his entire being and a lot of the ground. Toshiro looked behind him and saw the other half of his soul. Toshiro smiled at the dragon. “The king did say that your powers would be sealed and you were always put into your child form due to your power being too powerful for your soul to handle until you were able to master it, even if it expanded every day.” “That is true. How are you, Hyorinmaru?” “I am fine. It feels strange not being able to communicate with you without you being in your mindscape.” “It does feel like I have a hole in my heart but as long as I can communicate with you, even if I have to meditate.” Toshiro grinned. Hyorinmaru rumbled in amusement. “Master, what is the plan right now?” Toshiro hummed in thought. “I want to get training, even if I have to start with the basics. It’s not the first time I had to go into the basics.” Toshiro stated. Hyorinmaru nodded. “That seems like a good plan, master. The quicker you train, the quicker I am in your hands.” Stated Hyorinmaru, making Toshiro laugh.
Toshiro went back into the real world and started training himself. He started with basic exercises and to see how much Reiatsu he has. He has the same amount of Reiatsu that he had when he met Rangiku. “Looks like my reiatsu is the same from when I started as an academy student.” Toshiro stated to himself and put himself through harsh training with a lot of the basics he remembers from the academy but more challenging.
It takes him weeks to gain the power he had as a third seat but the good part was that he had his Zanpakuto in his hands again. While taking a break, Toshiro heard a rustle of bushes and a stick snapping very close to him. Toshiro narrowed his eyes and his eyes stared at the location he heard the noises from without moving a muscle.
Suddenly, a blade was aimed at him and Toshiro rolled out of the way just in time as the blade sliced the grass. Toshiro got up on his feet and saw a well-toned man with piercing green eyes, shoulder-length black hair, and a long ponytail of red hair, with bangs hanging on the right side of his face to frame it. The one thing that caught Toshiro’s attention was that the man is wearing a Shihakusho.
Toshiro’s eyes narrowed. ‘A Shinigami. So this must be the infamous Koga Kuchiki.’ Toshiro glared at Koga. “Can I help you, Shinigami?” Koga scowled. “You can help me by dying, boy.” Toshiro frowned. “I can’t help you then.” He said, rolling his eyes. ‘Kuchiki did say that this man was cocky but I didn’t think it would be this much.’
Koga gripped his Zanpakuto tightly and dashed over to Toshiro, thinking that Toshiro would not be a problem. However, Toshiro waited for Koga to get close to him before raising his hand towards the insane Shinigami, also taking notice of the two massive Reiatsus drawing near. He points a finger at Koga before saying: “Raimei no basha, itoguruma no kangeki, hikari mote kore o mutsu ni wakatsu, Bakudo #61; Rikujokoro.” Toshiro inchanted and light beams had soon trapped Koga. Very soon after Koga was trapped, the two people that were drawing near had arrived. Koga glared at Toshiro. “How does some Rukon brat like yourself now a high kido?” He growled out, struggling to get out. Toshiro just stared at Koga with no emotion before smirking. “That’s for me to know and for you to never find out as I believe your hunters have arrived.” Before Koga demanded Toshiro to explain what he means, he sees Toshiro pointing at the two people.
Koga looked over at where Toshiro was pointing at and his eyes widened seeing the Soutaichou, Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto, and his father in-law, Ginrei Kuchiki. “Koga.” said Ginrei. Koga scowled. Toshiro stretched and walked over to his zanpakuto and picked it up. He walked behind a tree and let the two captains deal with Koga.
Once they managed to seal Koga, Toshiro let his kido down. He tied his Zanpakuto around his back and started to walk away. Yamamoto looked at Toshiro. “Young man.” He called out to Toshiro. Toshiro stopped walking and turned his head to Yamamoto, his eyes blinking confusingly. “Yes?” “What’s your name?” “Toshiro Hitsugaya.” Yamamoto was quiet for a few seconds. “How do you know kido?” Toshiro turned his body round to show Yamamoto that he had his fall attention. “I saw someone use it before and I just wanted to see if I could do it, so I tried it out.” Toshiro stated, even though he was lying. Yamamoto just stared at Toshiro with his eyes closed before his attention draws to Toshiro’s Zanpakuto. “That blade-” “My Zanpakuto.” Toshiro interrupted him. That caught Yamamoto’s attention. “Your Zanpakuto? I find it hard to believe.” Toshiro grinned and shrugged. “You can believe it or not but this is my soul and partner.” He said, tapping the hilt at the end. The two stared at each other for a few minutes without any sound.
Soon Ginrei appeared and saw the two staring at each other. “Yamamoto-Soutaichou.” Ginrei announced his presense. “Kuchiki-Taichou.” Yamamoto acknowledges his presense. Toshiro’s eyes traveled to Ginrei, taking in his appearance. Ginrei notices Toshiro’s staring at him and stares back. “Thank you for your help.” He says. Toshiro looked up at him in surprise. He never expected a Kuchiki to thank a peasant such as himself. “Y-You’re welcome.” Toshiro stumbles over his words. “Soutaichou.” Ginrei said. Yamamoto nodded. “I agree.” Toshiro deadpan. ‘How are these two communicating?!’ Toshiro screams in his mind, he could hear Hyorinmaru laugh in the back of his mind.
“Hitsugaya.” Ginrei said, gaining Toshiro’s attention. “Yes, Kuchiki-Taichou?” Ginrei crossed his arms. “How do you feel about joining the Shin O Academy?” Toshiro blinked in surprise, not expecting that. “With your Reiatsu and your easy-to-pick-up kido technquies, even the fact that you have a Zanpakuto.” Ginrei explained. Toshiro lightly huffed and nodded with a small smile. “It would be an honour to join to the Gotei 13.” Yamamoto nodded. “Kuchiki-Taichou will sort out your documents to join and the academy starts in 3 weeks. Good luck.” That was all Yamamoto said as he walked away.

For the fanfic meme:
🎯 Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?
👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
And %% which is not an emoji but shall stand in for "whichever emoji no one ever picks but you have an answer for you want to share"!! (Because I mostly picked the ghost one because I don't actually know how one would answer that. XD)
Fanfic writer ask game
So I honestly thought I'd posted this a few days ago, until I opened my drafts just now and saw it there!! DX<
🎯 Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?
Not really, but I did reach one as of last year (or maybe even the year before) and that was...I've written over 100,000 words worth of Hitsuhina fanfic O_O It blew my mind when I added up the numbers. There are novel that aren't even that long!!
If I had to pick a milestone (well, it's more like a goal, but anyway), I guess, as cheesy as it is, it's to make fans happy. I know when I go to read others' work in any fandom I'm in, I feel like I've found somewhere I can relax for a while before I have to go on with my day. I want my fics to be like that, a place where fans can just relax for a little while and hopefully enjoy what they're reading.
👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
I did answer this one before, but another wild headcanon I have is prior to the main story, Toshio and Gin have spoken several times. It started when Toshiro became one of the higher seats, and one day while with Rangiku, Gin came by with paperwork. Toshiro didnt get a good vibe from him, and Gin sensed there was more Toshiro than met the eye. The two didn't exchange much words whenever they saw each other; at most Gin would make a arcastic or teasing comment, and Toshiro would respond in his brattish way. When Gin became a captain, Toshiro showed him a bit more respect, but kept his answers short and to the point whenever Gin spoke with him. They may have had one meaningful conversation once, in a moment where Gin was waiting for Rangiku. Gin spoke of prodigies and the weight on their shoulders to live up to expectations, and perhaps even reveals that he himself is considered one. Toshiro brushes off the comments, saying he's doing just fine, but he can't help but ponder on Gin's words for the next week.
It's from these interactions and seeing Gin with Rangiku that he's able to glean that they're close, though he doesn't understand the exact nature of their relationship - are they just old friends, distant friends, or something more?
And a question I'd like to answer...ugh, it feels so self indulgent but: 🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Any fic! Any at all! It astounds me to this day that a few people have drawn pieces for scenes in my fics (admitted, a few have been requests from me, but still! ^^; ) If I have to narrow it down to one fic though...Amongst the Ruins is the first to come to mind. Anyone who has been with me all these years knows that the number oen scenario I wish had happened in canon was Momo seeing Tosiro in his completed form, and it shows in the number of fics I've written about it. This fic hold s a special place in my heart, as not only is it one of the first I posted on here and I got some beautiful feedback on it, but writing it got me through a tough time in my life. If a fanartist decided to adapt any moment form this one, I'd just...

This youth! His joining the tenth division had been nothing short of a godsend! The third seat was so helpful! And now he was joining in conversation and creating entertainment?! Never had Isshin expected to be so proud of watching the growth of those around him but he was in wonder and amazed any time this child showed new signs of development on so many levels!

"Toshiro!! Are you telling jokes now? That's incredible! Where in this world of souls did you pick that up!? You must be so far ahead of anyone else in your age range!" He scoops up the boy and raises him up high as he can, beaming with pride, a natural occurance between the two lately.
"Hey, hey Matsumoto-fukutaicho! Did you hear that?! This kiddo's gotta be some kind of prodigy!"
