Eddie doesn’t mean to do it. 

It’s late. They’re cleaning up in the kitchen after a midnight snack, movie credits rolling in the living room, a pile of blankets abandoned on the couch. Eddie’s been spending a lot of time at the Harrington house lately for reasons he doesn’t want to examine too closely, and each evening it ends like this - the two of them side by side, maybe too close, sneaking looks and making excuses to touch. A lingering hand on an elbow, a brush of fingers when handing over a beer, innocent if not for the heat in their eyes when it happens.

They’re on the precipice of something. Balanced on a cliff’s edge and every evening spent together makes him feel like he’s toeing the edge nearer and nearer to falling. Eddie’s been following Steve’s lead, coming when invited, inserting himself into his space when it seems welcome, tucking himself in close and worming his way into the spaces of Steve’s life that he opens up for him.

He’s not a patient man, never has been, and maybe that’s his downfall this time, maybe that’s what makes this particular night the night, but he can’t help it - it’s so plain to him where this is going, where they’re going to end up, and he wants. His blood burns in his veins, but it isn’t desperation that drives him to do it - it’s just another one of those simple, sweet little touches. His own hand lands on Steve’s back as he comes up behind him, slipping a plate they’d missed into the sink where Steve’s doing the dishes, and Steve turns to give him a little grin, maybe tease him, maybe say thank you, Eddie won’t ever know, because he sees that pretty smile aimed at him, those warm eyes catching his own, and he doesn’t think - he just ducks a bit, and he presses his lips to Steve’s, chaste and quick and sweet.

He’s pulled away before he even realizes what he’s done, halfway across the kitchen before his stomach drops and his face goes hot.

He whips back around, eyes wide, finds Steve staring at him with his mouth dropped open in shock and his gaze still fixed on Eddie. His cheeks are flushed pink, he looks so fucking gorgeous, and panic squeezes Eddie’s heart so fucking tight because fuck, fuck he can’t ruin this, not already, not before it’s even begun. 

“I’m sorry,” he breathes, “I don’t - I didn’t–”

“Don’t,” Steve interrupts, and he turns fully to face Eddie, hands dripping suds onto the kitchen tile, and Eddie’s voice dies with a strangled sound in his throat. “Don’t apologize. Not unless you regret it.” 

“Never,” Eddie says, too fast, shaking his head hard enough to make his hair swing. “I could never regret you.”

Steve holds his gaze and slowly, a smile spreads over his face. “Then get back over here,” he tells him, “and kiss me like you mean it.” And what can Eddie do but obey? He closes the space between them, hands finding Steve’s sides and pulling him in close, laughing when wet hands slide over his shoulders and up into his hair and then they’re kissing, messy and grinning into it, and Steve bites at his lower lip and tugs it with his teeth and Eddie’s laugh turns into a groan.

“Upstairs?” he breathes into Steve’s mouth, and Steve laughs, bright and happy.

“I thought you’d never ask.” He pulls away, takes Eddie’s hand, and pulls him to where they both knew they’d end up eventually.

Does Hed help Les with grooming his back?

This is a really old ask about this post. And the answer is yes, definitely!

I ended up drawing them back in their room in Vibe City because I've been thinking a lot about them growing up there lately. This is a little before Les gets kicked out (big fight with dad) and they end up traveling around with Flea who is at uni at this point. (Flea isn't a local, he moved there because of uni a couple of years prior, and that's when Les and Hed met him. He is the only other mixed/non-fully funk troll they know at that point.)

In the drawing Hed is studying for a test. He's in the second year of high school when he drops out. This upsets and angers Les because he has good grades but Hed insists that they should form a band (like they used to talk about when younger) because he is secretly shit scared of letting Les live alone and fuck off to who knows where. - At this point in time Vibe City is pretty much grounded in the same location most of the time, and if Les doesn't have work, he likes to spend his time in the suburb/woods outside the city where he takes care of his beetle van, Scaab. And Hed is aware Les has been itching to leave the city for a while already...

have you any adaptations of norse myth as complete as the eddas but in a more accessible format? or a modernized english translation? ive tried reading the eddas a few times but struggle with the archaic language so i prefer other texts, including those on your site, but they all focus (understandably) on the more well-known stories while only briefly mentioning others. they solve the antiquity of the eddas but in the process omit lots of gems! am i chasing unicorns here?

It's out-of-print, but I generally recommend d'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths for a first-time read.

It's a children's book, so the authors gloss over a few of the cruder things (such as Loki tying his balls to the beard of a goat to make Skadi laugh), but the way they've chosen to adapt these oral stories into a linear book-format is nothing short of brilliant. They've woven a shocking amount of extant and historically-attested tales within the book, and being that it's a children's book, everything is very easy to read and understand.

They objectively did a spectacular job with how they organized everything. I think it helped that Ingri d'Aulaire was Norwegian and grew up with the oral tradition. It's clear to me that she didn't need to rely on how these tales are formatted in the old Icelandic sagas; she knew how to restructure them while still conveying the same information.

One thing to note about this book, though, is that it's not designed to give you the same experience you'd have with the oral tradition, nor is it intended to fulfill the same anthropological function. Its purpose is just to share the cultural stories. But the fact it's extraordinarily successful at fulfilling this purpose is why it's my go-to recommended retelling at this point in time.

I feel like at first MAYBE it was etho but now it's a bunch of different people cause the styles they're done in is extreamly varied.

like compare the original etho one to skizzes and then to bdubs? very different styles in terms of blocks used and proportions. 🤔 in my experience of building lil statuses of people in minecraft it's easy to stick to a formula once u got one. So unless it's 1 person purpofully trying to throw the viewers off it's likely multiple people. that's my take I could be wrong. (or the 1 person got too tired of sticking to one style and decided to shake it up per statue.) if I wanted to get super conspiracy about it I could say that the hermits are playing a game? like a pass it on hermit missions type thing? and seeing how far it can go without the viewers realizing? in all honesty it's like just like 2-3 hermits doing this as a bit. or just 1 hermit doing it but being really weird about their block pallete.

I don't know how to put it but mumbos is the 1 that throws me off. it's really cute in a familiar way. I feel like it was done by one of the builders on the server maybe grian? idk I don't want to put too many concrete accusations down cause I don't want the embarrassment of being completely wrong lmao

it was considered unilaterally vampire ableist until... about 2019, I think, then discourse about it went quiet for a few years until a mutual circle of kinky vampires got popular for their general posts and they were all of a very "you think bloodsuckers are sexy? you are correct, we are :)" disposition, so it got more socially acceptable to be horny about it. occasionally someone posts a "am I taking crazy pills? did we all forget that this is sexualizing a minority group's dietary restrictions and romanticizing very real unhealthy relationship dynamics?" take and gets the underwater screenshot treatment. some people are deeefinitely weird about how their bloodfeeding kinks make them approach and view random vampires not involved in those scenes, but none of those people ever get called out, it's pretty much only content creators on vampire onlyfans (which is an audio based platform due to the whole "can't show up in pictures or videos" thing).

the topic that does remain more contentious is humans playing vampires in visual erotica, again mostly due vampires not being visible in film. it's a fairly accepted practice in mainstream movies and tv but a lot of people feel really weird about it being done for porny purposes, you get a lot of "my life is not a sexy cosplay" vs "why are we going after erotica when people get oscars for inaccurately portrayed vampire roles all the time" loops.
