“Ten Years In Penitentiary Is Sentence on Gun Charge,” Toronto Star. December 14, 1942. Page 2. ---- Woman Accomplice, Mother of Two, Gets Year in Reformatory --- JAIL HUSBAND, TOO --- Ten years in the penitentiary was the sentence imposed on Hilliard Robathan, 20, [TOP] by Judge James Parker in county criminal court today.
Robathan pleaded guilty to armed robbery, assault with intent to rob and shooting with intent to kill or maim. He received the 10 years on the shooting count, three years and two years, respectively, on each of the other counts. The sentences are concurrent.
William Wilks, 21, [BOTTOM] found guilty of robbery and assault with intent to rob, was given two years on each count, the terms to run concurrently. Leslie Fry, 21, was given two years on one charge of assault wit intent to rob; James Humphrey, 23, received six months for robbery, and Grace Humphrey, 21, mother of two young children, was given one year definite and one month indefinite, for robbery. All the sentences date from Dec. 3, the date the trial stated.
Robathan, Wilkes, James Humphrey, and Grace Humphrey all participated in the holding up of Wallace Noble, Toronto taxi driver, at Mimico on Nov. 1. They robbed him of $35. All of them, with Leslie Fry, and the exception of James Humphrey, were implicated in the robbing of Alfred Nesbitt on Lawrence Ave., North York, last Nov. 2. In the second hold-up, Robathan fired a shot at Nesbitt, which penetrated his jacket and vest.
As he heard the words, ‘Ten years in the penitentiary,’ Robathan turned pale and gripped the dock rail tightly. Mrs. Humphrey sobbed as she was led away.
In sentencing Robathan, his honor remarked: ‘You’re fortunate that it is not worse. The maximum for shooting with intent is life. There is no excuse for you.’
Robathan asked permission to take the witness stand before being sentenced. He denied testimony given by Grace Humphrey, that she was in his power and was forced to do his bidding in the two hold-ups.
Robothan, through E. J. Murphy, his counsel, said he had served two years in the army, latterly as an instructor at Camp Borden.
Wilkes pleaded for a chance to re-enter the army. He admitted the gun used was his.
‘Now you are in trouble, you want to go into the army again,’ said his honor.
Fry made no plea, but admitted he had served six months in the army and was absent without leave.
In respect to James Humphrey, his honor said accused only participated in the Noble affair. ‘And in that he was mostly passive,’ he added.
Referring to Grace Humphrey, he said: ‘No matter what Robothan says. I think the woman was in his power to some extent, and did his bidding.’
Evidence given in the Noble hold-up was that  Noble took the Humphreys, Wilkes and Robothan out to a sideroad near Mimico late on the night of Nov. 1 and that Robothan shoved a loaded revolver into the girl’s hand. The girl said she was terrified of Robothan and did not know what she was doing. However, she admitted holding the gun and receiving Noble’s money.
[AL: Robothan was 20, single, from Toronto, a machinist at a factory, with no previous criminal record. He was convict #7145 at Kingston Penitentiary, and was in the young convicts gang working in the car garage. He was selected in mid-1943 for transfer to Collin’s Bay Penitentiary for reformable inmates, but was returned to the big house in 1944 for misconduct and breaking the rules. He was celled then in the East Cell Block (used for difficult prisoners) and was implicated in January 1945 in an escape attempt with two other prisoners - sawing the bars and building a rope ladder. He was eventually released from segregation for that act, and worked in the kitchen until his parole in September 1949.
Wilkes listed his employment as a soldier in the Canadian Active Service Force, and had no previous criminal record. He was convict #7146 and worked in the print shop, but on May 1943 was transferred to Collin’s Bay. He was released from there July 1944.
Fry was 20, also listed his occupation as soldier, and had a criminal record of three terms in the reformatory. He was convict #7144 at Kingston Penitentiary, worked in the young convicts crew, worked in the mail bags, and was transferred to Collin’s Bay May 1943. He was released the same day as Wilkes.]

Leyla: I think you left your business card by accident and I'm going to give you a little bit of advice.
Leyla: If you leave something with the nurses they will be handing that out to everyone. At least this is how I got it shoved to me.
Leyla: Hope you're enjoying the staff calls :)
Leyla: Oh, and this is Leyla.

Anatoly Veselov Vs William Robathan
@william-robathan
The crowd was going off, there were screams everywhere, people shouting for the brits, people shouting for the Russians. But Anatoly didn’t hear any of that. His eyes were focused on the little rug rat in front of him and nothing else. He smiled, that wicked, devilish smile that reached his eyes, perhaps for the first time since he’s been there. But there was little human left in him at this point. His eyes were dark, consumed of the rage that he was beginning to feel in his bones.
Oh, the rat was going to suffer.
As they stepped closer, he touched his fist to his own jaw, punching it a few times. As if to encourage the man. Yeah, he wanted him to hit first. To taste blood before he even lifted his hand. Give him a chance, make it look as if he felt pain.
“давай, принцесса“ He smirked, as he lifted his fists to his face.

There were few places to hide at an event like this. Even fewer with the luxury of privacy. If they were going to talk--and for appearance's sake, it would be here--she was going to have to be considerate about it. Finding him wasn’t difficult. Whether the man liked it or not, William traveled with a harem; the women in the room could scope out a single man of his stature as if it were innate behavior. Eyeroll inducing, but occasionally necessary, even for her.
“I hope you don’t mind, ladies.”
As she found the crook of his elbow, taking his arm from behind, she moved around to his side to announce herself to his present company. Unorthodox? Not really. It wasn’t as though any of them were stupid enough to object, either.
“Dance with me?” It wasn’t a request. “Not getting the chance to talk would be a pity.”

@william-robathan
The movie credits had long since rolled and people were already leaving to their rooms. Funnily enough, the sun was already starting to come up; the birds chirping in the background, warning them of the early morning.
Yet, Leyla felt fully awake. The alcohol, while still in her system, no longer clouded her mind - though the coffee she had during the movie probably had helped a lot with that. She was walking between the rooms with William, the silence of the house carried the same one that lingered between the two of them.
As they reached her door, Leyla leaned down on her door, not going in yet. With a bite to her lip, she looked at the tall man and smiled. “You know... You really can’t know if your room will be free or not... Azra got so drunk I think she might as well be passed out in any of the given rooms...” She wasn’t great at this, but neither was she bad. “You could, and might as well, spend the night with me? I’ve got a very comfy queen size bed fit for a birthday girl.”

“Looking for a posthumous ‘dumbest bitch’ trophy at the next awards?”
Well, so much for avoiding fight club this year.
If the thought of abandoning ship and leaving Spencer behind to deal with the unknown hadn’t been hard enough after last year’s fucking riot, when she’d heard William was fighting, Cassie couldn’t bring herself to skip out. They couldn’t call, they couldn’t message; he could’ve ended up slaughtered by a Russian with an axe to grind and she’d what, be sat watching fucking Netflix like nothing was wrong? The only thing worse than the anxiety of watching his fight unfold, was not knowing what was going on at all. So, there she stood, scolding him in her semi-inebriated state with no care as to who might’ve overheard their exchange about his upcoming fight.
“Did you not see what these fucking psychos did to each other last time? They could literally kill you, William. Are you out of your tiny mind? He’s a fucking Russian.”
