You know, in that AU book where Jake goes to the future, the whole idea of "Cassie has a Yeerk in her head she works with" never seems to be a big deal. Like, Jake never seemed to wonder much if it's Cassie really talking or just the Yeerk speaking for her. Or even who's REALLY in control of their body.
Oh man, I feel this!!! There is so much wasted potential in #41, and the question of what exactly is going on with Cassie and Niss is a considerable part of it. Like, it does seem reasonable that Cassie would join the YPM as a voluntary host if anyone would (see: #19) but you're also right that her being a controller in that book automatically makes her a less trustworthy source on all aspects of the war.
The big one for me: Why does she not seem to be able to morph? When she gets injured, she splints her arm instead of morphing to heal it. When she's threatened by the orff, she seems totally helpless against them. The final scene involves her being apparently unable to stop herself from falling off a building, and has the implication that she'll be killed by the fall. None of that is at all in line with Cassie's canon behavior; she's not only an experienced morpher but the best morpher on the team. Does Niss have something to do with that? Or is that just Jake's anti-yeerk paranoia coming through in the narration, and is Niss trying to help?
And ofc if you're up for it, one dealer's choice please! Happy WW my friend!

Neil huffs out a laugh, "I don't think another scar on my face'll really matter." He says squeezing Andrew's hand in his own, "Can't make me look any worse." Neil says with an amused snort.
Andrew stiffens at the comment.
His brows furrow. What in the world did that mean?
However, before he can say anything they are arriving at the hospital and Neil's being carted out of the ambulance and into the hospital. Andrew sticks next to Neil as much as he can as Neil is carted around and poked out by various medical professionals. Medical professionals who all seem to quickly realize that Neil is far easier to deal with if Andrew is there.
