The Joker: A Comic Masterlist
Disclaimer: This list will be subject to changes (comic addition and comic removal), as well as possible changes to its labeling system as this list is continually adjusted. If you see that a certain comic is missing please message me and make sure to include the comic's official title, number, and series of origin. The timeline organization of both single issue and collected editions is based on biased research.
Single issues with several following numbers are to be read as a collected edition.
This list will also include a link to where the comics below can be read for free.
Batman Comic's 1940 to 2011

Joker #1-15 2021 AND The Joker: Clown Prince of Crime (1975-76) series
The Joker: Clown Prince of Crime Series is a spin-off series with other villains such as Lex Luther, The Riddler, The Creeper, and more.
Joker 2021 #1-15 is a different series following the events of Infinite Frontier #1 involving Jim Gordon getting contracted to kill the Joker. To best understand this series I would suggest reading Batman: The Killing Joke, Joker War, and Black Mirror first.
This link will give you access to both collected editions.
Batman: The Killing Joke
Originally released in 1988, Batman: The Killing Joke was adapted from the 1951 short story The Man Under The Red Hood. This comic was also adapted into an animated movie in 2016.

Batman: A Death In The Family
A Death in the Family begins when Batman relieves Jason Todd of his crime-fighting duties. Jason begins a search for his biological mother but ends up being tortured by The Joker. This leads to his presumed death.

The Three Jokers
The Three Jokers is a 'spiritual' successor to Batman: The killing Joke and Batman: A Death In The Family. Batman, Batgirl, and Red Hood (now Jason Todd) explore a lead on The Joker, who, as the title suggests may have been 3 different men this whole time.

1. i am always thinking about this man's tits
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
2. The fact that you can find actual articles talking about how iconic his ass is, is all you need. Not only is his ass caked up as hell, he also has that big juicy ass personality
Tumblr media
(another rant) (long)
I don’t know why he is constantly more caked up than a busy downtown bakery and double-cheeked to high Heaven but I’m never gonna argue! Comic artists are unabashedly horny on main and usually that’s channeled into really unholy female anatomy but people who draw Dick Grayson obviously yearn to even the scales and we love feminist praxis and equality in this house 🥳. No matter what Nightwing comic it is he is slutted the hell up, he is yassified 💅🏽, he is ✨snatched✨. I don’t think there’s been a single artist for him that’s been normal about his ass and there never SHOULD be. There is a love, nay an OBSESSION, evident in the painstaking rendering those gloriously toned cheeks receive no matter the medium. It’s just become canon at this point that he has the best ass in Gotham, heroes recognize it, villains recognize it, the audience recognizes it! He just has that reputation now and artists go absolutely feral with it and the completely ridiculous and contrived reasons they can find to practically f r a m e his ass center panel. You could bounce that big fuck off penny in the Bat Cave off those cheeks 🥵. I’m surprised he gets any work done being a stealth hero cuz you can probably hear those things clapping like a sonic boom from about 4 blocks away. His suit practically looks like it’s PAINTED on and I for one am forever grateful to the troops (artists who clearly love/desire/care for him in the least heterosexual way possible regardless of what their own gender or sexuality may be) for endeavoring to right the wrongs of DC’s sexism by sexualizing the absolute fuck out of this man 24/7 365! He has an entire comic run I have not read but deeply need to where he’s a vampire and sure he’s killing everybody but we all have flaws and slutty caked up vampire king Dick Grayson can get it any day any way, you feel me 🥴??? Dick Grayson has been throwin it back with Instagram thirst trap level cheekage for quite literally decades and I humbly submit said cheeks for your tournament 😊

So I did some research on which silver and bronze age writers were behind certain Lex Luthor stories, and assigned them in this list:
Jerry Siegel
Adventure Comics #271 "How Luthor Met Superboy",
Superboy #86 "The Army of Living Kryptonite Men",
Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #23 "The Curse of Lena Thorul",
Superman #149 "The Death of Superman",
Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #64-65 (with Jack Schiff & Leo Dorfman)
Otto Binder
Superboy #121 "Jor-El's Visit to Earth",
Superboy #139 "The Town that Hated Superboy"
Edmond Hamilton
Superman #164 "The Showdown Between Superman and Luthor",
Superman #168 "Luthor -- Super-Hero!",
Action Comics #318 "The Death of Luthor!",
Superman #175 "Clark Kent's Brother"
Leo Dorfman
Action Comics #295 "The Girl With the X-Ray Mind",
Action Comics #296-298,
Adventure Comics #387-388 "Lex Luthor's Outlaw Nephew",
Action Comics #332 "The Super-Revenge of Lex Luthor",
Action Comics #363-365,
Action Comics #417-418 "The Conspiracy Of The Crime-Lords"
Len Wein
Superman #248 "The Man Who Murdered the Earth"
Elizabeth M. Smith
Action Comics #486 "Hero for a Day"
Elliot Maggin
Superman #286 "The Parasite's Power Play",
The Joker #7,
Superman #292 "The Luthor Nobody Knows",
Superman Annual #9,
DC Comics Presents Annual #4 "Welcome to Luthorcon III!",
Superman #416 "The Einstein Connection"
Cary Bates
World's Finest #189-190 "The Man With Superman's Heart",
Action Comics #407 "The Fiend in the Fortress of Solitude",
Action Comics #318 "Luthor's Hammer of Hate!",
DC Special Series #5,
Action Comics #510-512,
Action Comics #544 "Luthor Unleashed!", Superman #385-386,
Superman Annual #12
Martin Pasko
Action Comics #500,
Superman Family #214 "The Strange Revenge of Lena Luthor"
Marv Wolfman
DC Comics Presents Annual #1
Misc:
Heroes Against Hunger - Various Writers
I was actually rather surprised by some of this. Finding out that Leo Dorfman wrote the Action Comics #363-365 "Leper from Krypton" arc, indicates he's actually been quite influential on Mark Waid, in my opinion. (And I definitely think that Cary Bates in particular influenced Grant Morrison. Bates' stuff ranges in quality a little, but the higher end stuff is fantastic.) I also didn't remember that it was Siegel who introduced Lena, and I was shocked to find out he co-wrote that mad Lex/Lois romance in earth-64.
And I didn't list every story, obviously. I just tracked down ones that were memorable to me for one reason or another.

365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
May 11th - Supergirl
Kara Zor-El is the paternal cousin of Superman. She grew up in the city of Argo, a portion of Krypton that initially survived the destruction of the planet. The populace of Argo were able to survive for a time by creating a shield that enabled it to float through space, Unfortunately, Kryptonite radiation began to seep through meteor strikes in this shielding and the denizens were doomed. Kara was an adolescent at the time and her parents were aware of Jor-L’s success in sending his infant son to Earth. They fashioned a spacecraft of their own and sent Kara to earth.
The craft passed through some sort of cosmic anomaly which caused it to arrive on earth several years after her cousin; yet Kara didn’t age during the journey so she was now a good deal younger than her cousin. The yellow son of earth bestowed Kara the same powers as Superman, including greatly enhanced strength, speed, durability and flight. Kara adopted the secret identity of ‘Linda Lee Danvers’ and made Midvale Orphanage her home.
Taking on the name of ‘Supergirl’ she promised her cousin that she would keep her existence on Earth a secret, so that he may use her as a secret weapon; not that it stopped her from exploring her new powers covertly. Supergirl would go on to have numerous adventures, both alongside Superman and on her on. She time traveled to the 31st Century where she temporarily served alongside the Legion of Superheroes and was romantically involved with her fellow Legionnaire, Brainiac 5.
Sadly, Supergirl perished during the Crisis On Infinite Earths event; yet was later reintroduced in the post Zero Hour continuity with a similar albeit more contemporary backstory. Now a teenager again, Supergirl served as a member of The Teen Titans and was also a part of The Justice League; as well as spending time in the 31st Century as part of The Legion of Superheroes.
Actress Helen Slater portrayed the character in the 1984 Supergirl movie; Laura Vandervoort played the her in the television series Smallville; and Melissa Benoist has portrayed the Girl of Steel in the 2015 Supergirl television series. The heroine first appeared in the pages of Superman #123 (1958).

Jason was Bruce’s beloved son and DC’s writers are doing shit.
Tumblr media
(Sorry, I don’t speak english fluently so my english can be gibberish.)
I’m always impress by DC’s writers. How did they manage to be so bad at respecting what was done before ? I’m not against showing your “own version” of batman, but this Batman doesn’t respect the continuity, isn’t believable as a human being and has no stable personnality. It’s an absolute wreck.
Since many years, some writers seem to agreed Batman is a psycho who beat his adopted children and only care about them when they can fight for him.
This is an absolute bullshit. Bruce didn’t want his boys to became Robin. Jason is the best exemple. That’s why Jason’s story is a tragedy, why it was so important. It would have no impact if he didn’t wanted to keep him safe at all cost.
If he had a favorite boy, it would definitly be Jason. Nearly all the issues with Jason were about how much Bruce were implicated in his education and safety.
After Bruce accepted him as his adopted son, Jason asked Bruce to become his new partner but Bruce refused because he wanted to keep him safe.
In detective comics #527, Jason asked Bruce to go to cinema with him and Bruce canceled a date with Vicki (his current girlfriend, who get pretty jealous of Jason in batman#361) because it “was more important at this point”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same issue, Jason was caught by an ennemy because he called batman “father” (he just lost his parents) in front of him and Bruce who got hysterical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Batman #363, Batman got angry at Jason because he didn’t want to put him in danger. The boy became sad, thinking Bruce is “overprotecting” him.
In Detective comics # 530, the boy ran from home and met a strange lady. She helped him to understand his “new father” fear to loose him and he was lucky to get a gardian.
Tumblr media
In Batman #365 despite accepting Jason as is partner, he was still reluctant to bring him with him.
Tumblr media
The he was angry when he showed up dressed as Robin, but regreted his harsh words and comfort him the day later in detective comics #533, where the narrator says “a son is not always born from his father”.
Tumblr media
He often fighted with Jason because he was very protective (like in Detective Comics 551 where he refuse to bring Jason in a mission and tries to explain him he fear for his safety)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Detective comics #535, after Jason got hurt, Bruce realised his revenge could have killed Jason and he regreted to put him in danger.
Tumblr media
In Batman #368, he smiled because he was happy to work with him.
Tumblr media
In Batman #373, Jason had a nightmare about his parent’s death. But his “parents” happened to include Bruce Wayne.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same issue, Batman refused to take him to a place where he could have been confronted to his trauma.
Tumblr media
Jason worse fear in Detective comics #571 was not being able to save Bruce.
Tumblr media
Jason was in tears when he thought batman was dead and Bruce comforted him.
Tumblr media
In the same issue, we learn that Bruce’s worse fear was Jason’s death.
Tumblr media
In Detective Comics #539, Bruce protectiveness “don’t bug” Jason because “it makes him seem like a father”.
Tumblr media
And then, there is one of the longest arc I read in an old comic and it’s all about Jason beeing taken by child welfare.
Let’s resume some elements :
Batman #374 (where the pannel show a contrast between the way people percieve Bruce and the way he act as a father).
Tumblr media
In Detective comics #542, the child welfare take Jason while he’s crying.
Tumblr media
While in Batman #378, Bruce collapse.
Tumblr media
In Detective comics #543, he explain to Julia, Alfred’s daughter, how much he miss Jason and how empty is his house since he’s gone.
Tumblr media
But he don’t lose hope and he’s ready to give all of his fortune to his lawers to get him back (Detective comics #543).
Tumblr media
And Jason don’t feel good at the child welfare bureau since he can’t sleep well because he’s “away from home” (Batman #376)
Tumblr media
Later, Jason he accept to be adopted by an other woman (to prouve it’s a vilain), but said to Amadan it’s because he don’t want to stay in the child wellcare bureau. Amanda begin to wonder if she didn’t did a mistake when she saw him crying because he miss Bruce, Alfred and “home”.
Tumblr media
Ms Knight then adopt Jason but the boy is reluctant to accept her as a mother despite her powers of persuasion. She finally surrender and Jason became Bruce’s son again.
No need to say Bruce also get very anxious when Jason get hurt :
Tumblr media
It’s endless, because nearly every single issue of Batman and Detective comics showed how much Bruce cared for this boy.
Even in modernes and alternatives universes, where Jason is a little ball of anger, he is still starving for Bruce’s love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He kept a picture of Bruce and him.
Tumblr media
He also like to call him “dad”, wich is even more significant since he never had a proper father in these universe.
Tumblr media
When he came back from the dead, the first person he called was batman.
Tumblr media
And after his ressurection, he was absolutly lost and desesperate. He didn’t only seek for revenge. He wanted a proof his dad loved him enough to be able to kill his murderer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, he thought Tim remplaced him.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Bruce was devastated and never got over his death, which is even more heartbreaking when you know how much he was trying to protecting him !
Tumblr media
He cry in his hands in front of a very incisive interviewer who get voiceless after seeing him collapse. Bruce call himself a “father” and consider Jason as “his son”.
Tumblr media
He cuddled him and refused to let him go, as if he wanted to comfort him and couldn’t accept he was gone.
Tumblr media
Even Alfred said Bruce gave Jason a home a family and all the love he needed.
Tumblr media
Even after he came back to life and he knew he was fine, Bruce get still very emotionnal about Jason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike the others Robin, Jason never had a loving family before Bruce. Bruce father’s role was more important for Jason than any others Robins and in every timelines, he take it very seriously. He probably get more attached to Jason than he ever was with Dick. Despite loving his younger sons, he also probably never be able to feel as implicated in Tim and Damian’s education because of Jason’s death.
The original Bruce had serious psychological problems, but he wasn’t a sociopath. Bruce Wayne is a man who never got over his childhood trauma. He is a broken man surrounded by mad criminals who abuse and kill by lack of empathy.
Empathy is what save Bruce from madness and unable him to be a criminal too. He express empathy for his two first Robin by taking them at home and, without thinking of it, he fix his own childhood’s trauma by fixing Jason’s and Dick’s. He brokes the circle (they’re wearing bright colors to show their costumes aren’t a burden.)
In fiction, love often “heal” the characters, but Bruce never had a proper lover, unlike many others super heroes. But he loves his children. They keep him human and help him when he lost himself (Tim did that after Jason’s death). That’s why he’s a hero and not a vilain. That’s why, when Jason killed a man when he was Robin, Batman didn’t beat his boy. Batman was likeable because, despite being violent, he loved and protected his kids and it mades him human.
Now I have prooved my point…
THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH BATMAN BEATING JASON TO DEATH IN THE LATER ISSUES !
Tumblr media
FUCK ! There is no logic in Bruce’s reaction since the New 52. Did them want to show us Bruce was a “true man” by being violent ? Did they wanted to make two superhero fight to sell stories with bad plot ?
Well, they just made him unlikable and crazy. How are we supposed to feel involved in a character so badly written he can show absolute tenderness for his son in one issue and nearly killed the same character later ? Jason already killed before and Bruce never goes this far.
Get good writers DC. I’m not a huge fan of fanfiction, but alf of Batman’s fanfics writers I read would have done a better job.

Shazam! (2019)
Film review #365
SYNOPSIS: Billy Batson is a foster child who is constantly running away and trying to find his real mum. When Thaddeus Sivana enters a hidden realm looking to take a Wizard’s ancient powers for himself, and steals the powers of the seven deadly sins to unleash them on Earth, the wizard summons Billy to be his champion and take his powers to stop Sivana from unleashing hell on Earth.
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Shazam! is a 2019 superhero film based on the comic book character, and is also part of the DC cinematic universe of films. The film starts off showing a young boy named Thaddeus Sivana, who is transported to the Rocky of Eternity, a sacred temple where he is tested by a wizard to see if he is worthy of inheriting his magic powers. Sivana fails to be pure of heart, and is sent away. In the present day, Sivana is still desperately trying to return to that temple, and take the powers for his own. We are also introduced to Billy Batson, a fourteen-year old boy who is constantly running away from foster homes as he tries to find his Mother. He is moved to a new foster home where he is introduced to Freddy Freeman, another foster child. When Billy intervenes to stop some bullies attacking Freddy, he escapes on the subway, where he is transported to the Rock of Eternity. There, Billy learns that Sivana has unleashed the seven deadly sins, and Billy is the last hope to stop them. The wizard transfers his powers to Billy, and tells him he can access them by uttering his name: Shazam. The film’s premise is pretty simple: it’s a classic clash of good vs. evil, with some human drama in between. There’s a good balance of these different elements, and everything feels like it adds something to the plot.
With Billy able to transform into Shazam, he has to learn how to use his new powers, as well as to work out what those powers actually are. He and Freddy try and test out a number of powers, and we get a sense of Shazam being an incredibly versatile hero, but ultimately he still has the naivety and worldview of a fourteen year old boy. Shazam has many of the abilities (and appearance) of superman, but has none of the maturity or legacy that Superman has, and is thrust into this state with no information or warning. Billy has to work out what he is supposed to do with these powers and what their possibilities are, and a good chunk of the film is spent exploring this. The film goes through some fairly predictable scenarios that while not wholly original, are still lots of fun, and deliver a light-hearted entertainment with some good laughs. It does a similar thing to the well remembered film Big, and includes a sly reference to it in one scene, which again is pretty fun. Shazam! really harks back to the classic comic book heroes: the battle of good versus evil without being too concerned about building complex and conflicted characters. However, this type of superhero doesn’t really fit in to what we recognise in contemporary comic book heroes, and so Billy’s naivety and sense of being lost (reflected in his own personal story with regards to finding his mother) is in line with this and keeps a consistent tone throughout. There’s also the issue of Billy’s alter ego having no real superhero name, but that’s more of an awkward reference that his name is technically Captain Marvel and Marvel Comics now owns that trademark for their own Captain Marvel, and so there’s always been this issue around his name (typically he is just referred to as Shazam). Overall though, the focus is on a light-hearted, fun superhero film that keeps things simple and humourous, while trying to find a place for this kind of superhero in a world that has somewhat moved on from this conception of them (especially in the DC comics universe).
Shazam! is primarily based on the 2011-2012 comic reboot of the character, and it seems to follow it pretty closely, with the setting and characters being fairly similar to those in the comics. There is however, some other callbacks to the larger legacy, including the ambiguity surrounding Shazam’s name. The black and white movie serial based on the character is one of my favourite of the superhero serials of the time, and while the two characters are rather different, that transformation of Billy into Shazam/Captain Marvel is still the same, with the cool image of the bolt of lightning striking him, and Shazam emerging from a cloud of smoke. The acting partnership of Billy/Shazam is great, and their transformation really gives the impression that they are the same person, just with a different body (compared to the movie serial, where they were portrayed as different people). The supporting cast also do a good job and add some variety, but given that the end of the film does dedicate a decent amount of time to these characters, I feel like they weren’t set up completely to justify the time spent on them at the climax.
As much as I did enjoy this film, there are some glaring problems. Firstly, as mentioned, this is a classic good vs. evil film, and as such the villain doesn’t stand out too much. He exists mostly as a character for Billy/Shazam to test his limits against and to see his own place in the world. Another problem is that the resolution at the end of the film just isn’t set up very well: when Billy finds his biological mother and he realises that she intentionally abandoned him, he suddenly decides that the foster home is now his “real family”, but the film does no work in facilitating this u-turn. There’s plenty of development between Billy and Freddy (although this is undone constantly by Freddy’s interventions telling Billy what a superhero should be, rather than Billy’s childish stunts), but none between Billy and the foster family as a whole, and we never see him settling into this new home or changing his attitude to anyone there. The film really only needed a scene or two to show Billy’s changing attitude, but as it stands the change just seems to come from nowhere. The last major problem is that the finale sees Billy giving his fellow foster kids the same powers he has, and they work as a family to defeat the “family” of the seven deadly sins. This actually is in keeping with the comic book, but it does come out of nowhere, again due to the whole foster family story being underdeveloped. On top of this, it does dilute the final fight by splitting the action between Shazam and everyone else, thus we never get to see Billy’s triumph and rewarding moment of glory as it’s shared with these other characters that show up and share the spotlight. I think all of these problems don’t really hamper the enjoyability of the film, and could have easily been addressed with a tighter script and the addition of a few scenes.
The light-hearted and humourous angle of Shazam! lends itself to being more a family-oriented film, and it revels in a bright colour palette and expressive acting and visuals compared to the dark and austere palette often associated with films based on DC comics. The film was directed by David F. Sandberg, who directed the 2015 short film Kung Fury, and that same style is definitely on show again here. However, there’s some use of adult language, and the demons embodying the seven sins are pretty gruesome looking. Also the scene with the demons in the boardroom meeting I imagine would be pretty disturbing for kids, even though there’s no gore involved. Overall, Shazam! is a fun adventure with plenty of laughs and action. It harks back to the classic conception of a superhero, as well as thinking about where such conceptions belong in contemporary settings, where the dividing lines of good versus evil are not so neatly drawn. While it sometimes does not offer much new, it still executes it in a colourful, fun way that will be entertaining so you won’t care that much. There are some elements of the story that are underdeveloped and thus dilute some of the payoffs at the end of the film, but these don’t stop the film being entertaining and worthwhile viewing.

Day 71 of 365 - Team Leader Nerds
I’m a little late to the news that Rooster Teeth partnered up with DC for some RWBY and gen:LOCK comics, but hey. I figured I’d draw a little celebratory piece with two teenage nerd girl team leaders who dress in red and black and wanna be heroes just because they have good intentions (and are also raised by single parents).
... Huh? Y-you don’t recognize the other one? That’s Wonder Girl! Y’know, Cassie Sandsmark? In the outfit she had for a little bit back in like 2000 when she led Young Justice and the fanbase still liked her. I mean, she had like long blonde hair or whatever, but the whole “it was a wig this whole time” thing was... kinda nonsensical. Also I took some liberties with turning the croptop into a full-on shirt. So sue me.
Anyway, I look forward to reading the books!
