PMD: Gates to Infinity Timeline

Rescue Team

I wanted to document the in-universe timespan of the story of every PMD title in detail and originally make it all into one post, but decided to split it into four instead. Every PMD timeline post will have links to the other titles as I progress with this little project.

Know that I'll count vague timeskips to the best of my judgement, the one dungeon = one day rule doesn't strictly apply (yes, even with the V-Wave mechanic in gti), and I document every game up until the hero and partner reunite, though I might make additions for post-game story later on.

Introduction Arc

On day 1 the hero meets the partner after landing in the Pokemon world, and on day 2 you play through Gurdurr's arc to get him to build your house. The construction starts on the evening of day 2 and is said to last a few days. Not counting day 2's evening, I'll make it three days, making day 5 the day where the house is finished.

On day 6 you meet Dunsparce, Emolga, and Virizion who join your team by the end of the day. The team is officially established on day 7.

Gurdurr's store is established on day 8 and he asks you to bring him materials which you give to him on day 9. Gurdurr opens his store on day 10. Nothing happens on days 11-12 but on day 13 Victini arrives in Paradise and the hero has a dream the following night. Day 14 is uneventful, the fata morgana of the Great Glacier appears on day 15, and day 16 is uneventful again.

Umbreon and Espeon Arc

On the night before day 17, the hero has another dream and Umbreon is approaching Post Town. A warning about a dangerous Pokemon in the area goes out in the morning. The following night, Umbreon comes closer to the town and on day 18 Swadloon disappears to Inflora Forest where the team picks him up. Umbreon arrives in Post Town on day 19.

On day 20, Umbreon demonstrates the summoning of a Magnagate and the team takes off to rescue Espeon. Umbreon and Espeon join the team on day 21. Virizion and Dunsparce have a conversation on the hill the following night. The next morning, on day 22, Quagsire tells the team that one Pokemon has to stay in Paradise and can't go to the expedition.

Great Glacier Arc

I was debating on wether to apply the one dungeon = one day rule in this arc since technically we don't get any indication that a night passes during the expedition but I decided yes, both because its supposed to feel long and for another reason*.

That being said, day 23 marks the day the team make their way to the Great Glacier via a Magnagate dungeon. They arrive and make their way through the glacier on day 24 and take another Magnagate dungeon on day 25. Day 26 is the day they make it through the Glacier Palace for the first time and return home in the evening.

On day 27 Emolga uses the Frisms to mess with the team before telling them that during their absence, floating lights that could be seen from the hill appeared. The hero has another dream and on the morning of day 28, the partner asks the hero to promise them to stay in this world after fulfilling their duty. On day 29, one floating light can be seen from the hill. *If you talk to Ducklett, they'll say the lights first appeared about a week ago which adds up the best if you assume the expedition took four days.

Munna and Hydreigon Arc

Munna finally manages to make contact with the hero via their dreams. On the next day, day 30, the hero and partner take a Magnagate to Kilionea Road. They plan to sleep over the night outside the dungeon, but are alarmed by Munna, prompting them to make it through the Forest of Shadows at night. They get ambushed at Mount Kilionea afterwards but escape.

The hero makes it to Daybreak Ridge on day 31 where they're attacked by Toxicroak and saved by Hydreigon. When they wake up, Hydreigon says they've been out for a while, possibly making it day 32. Hydreigon and the hero team up and make it through Ochre Quarry and in the evening, Hydreigon explains the situation.

On day 33, the hero and Hydreigon make it through Withered Savanna where Purugly confronts them and tells them that they've got the Partner as a hostage. Presumably on day 34*, the duo makes their way to Holehills to rescue partner. On day 35* hero, partner, and Hydreigon make their way through the Scorching Desert. They're attacked by Kyurem in the evening and hero and partner are found and rescued by Emolga and Dunsparce.

*Withered Savanna, Holehills, and Scorching Desert could all be happening on one day but I decided to apply the 1d = 1d rule because otherwise it'd last as long as the glacier expedition and based on how long the arc feels, how the road takes up a chunk of the map, and how Emolga says they've been searching for hero and partner because they were gone for so long and started to get worried despite Mount Kilionea being established as a far away place, I think it makes sense that it lasts longer.

Finale Arc

The hero recovers from their injuries and wakes up on day 36 as the team decides their next course of action. They explain the situation to Post Town on day 37 just before Glacier Palace rises into the sky. Umbreon and Espeon make their way to Great Glacier that night and the team follows on day 38, on which they make it through the palace and destroy the Bittercold. The hero leaves the Pokemon world the next morning on day 39.

Worldcore Arc

A vague long timeskip happens, but if you look at the story summary by either exiting and entering the game or switching between Friend- and Hero Mode, it says months have passed, so we'll go with three months here.

On the evening of day 1 post-skip, Dunsparce and Emolga talk to Hydreigon in the Inn while Virizion and Keldeo have a conversation on the hill. Dunsparce approaches Hydreigon on day 2 and Hydreigon disappears the next day. He returns on day 4 to tell the team about the Worldcore where the partner manages to make a wish and be reunited with the hero.

Conclusion

The main story lasts 39 days while the post-game story lasts 4 days. Counting everything together with the time skip and assuming the timespan includes two 30-day and two 31-day months, the entire story of Gates to Infinity lasts 134 days or 4 months, 1 week and 5 days

oh So So Many things. iam Deeply Deeply sentimental and tend t just. hold onto things Just Because! like, i still have all of my old doodling notebooks since like elementary school kjngdkjfngk

some of my oldest stuff though um... prolly my collection of pokemon cards and plushies! as a kid i was a ridiculously huge pokemon fanatic (and still kind of am, just a lil more toned down skjdngk) so i have like. a lil tuppercontainer full of cards and an ikea bag full of old plushies! ive had some of these things since like... hell, i think pre-elementary for some of em, its been a lifelong thing WAHAHAH

31. what type of music keeps you grounded?

ooh, theres actually a couple of things! "grounding" is a bit of a. hard term for me since im kind of always running on high, but if i start Feeling A Type Of Way(tm) i usually come back to these few! - Coffee and Ramen (Go!Child): literally one of my favorite albums of all time. its very soft and heartfelt, and i really cant explain it in any way other than "looking up at the sky on a walk home from the cafe." its sweet and mellow and feels like home. - Sayonara Wild Hearts [ost]: the entire thing is like 45 min long and it feels like a fond dream. kinda like lying face up in bed, phone on your belly, headphones on. everything just kinda disappears a while and its very peaceful. - Celeste [ost]: its barely been a year since ive played it and it already feels like an old friend. i cant listen to it often, because it will make me sad, but i love it very dearly. its kind of electric and tangy and dusty like an old but fond book. yknow those dreams where you like... have a friend you just know you care about more than anything, and you wake up and miss them, even though they arent real? its like that, to me. - PMD Explorers [ost]: this is getting long but if i didnt mention it i would get so so sad. literally my oldest most irreplaceable friend. yknow that art where people draw a bunch of characters falling asleep in a big ol pile? feels like that. safe and warm and happy and like running down a hill on a windy day. my best friend. thankyou. bows.

31 Days of PMD: An Interconnected Series of Vignettes

Day 05: Badge

Game: Gates to Infinity

Theme: Learning from the Distant Past

Spoilers: Most of the game

It was a pretty average day in the small community of Paradise. The founder and leader, Andrea was working on building facilities, Anzu from HAPPI was maintaining the Message Board, and enjoying a picnic were the four Dungeon Researchers who resided here. Dork, an emboar, and the second-in-command when it came to operating Paradise, arrived bearing a great basket of food she had cooked for her friends’ picnic.

“Here you go!! Hopefully it is to your liking!” she said with a flourish.

“Hey, thanks!” One of the four, an umbreon named Lens, shouted right before he and his sister, an espeon named Annulus, went to town on some of the rice balls Dork made.

The other three murmured in agreement, and as Dork prepared to leave, Annulus spoke up in between chews. “You know… we really must pay you back sometime. You make and bring us meals so often and for nothing in return.”

“Speak for yourself.” added Virizion, the largest and most blunt of the four. Her name is the same as her species, as she is the sole member, and has never sought a separate name to differentiate her. “We run missions for Paradise all the time!”

Dork nodded. “Yeah, don’t worry about it! It’s just what a good friend does, and Virizion even pointed out, you do help me-” Annulus interrupted her. “Yes, but not directly. We’ve only so far repaid you in everyone’s everyone’s welfare, rather than something specifically for you!”

“She’s got a good point.” said Keldeo, the final one of the four researchers to speak.

“Yeah, I’m up for it. Dork, what do you want?” said Lens with a full mouth of food.

Dork by this point was staring intently at the ground with a bit of a glassy look in her eyes. “Ummmmmmm…. I mean, I’m fine, really! I’m sorry I don’t know what I’d want I just want everyone to be...” was all anyone could really make out before her muttering became unintelligible.

“I think we’ve overwhelmed her.” sighed Virizion. “Guys, why don’t we just uh, rain check that offer, try to get her off of the spot?”

“Uhhh, wait, I got it!” Dork, not wanting to leave her friends with what she believed would be a sense of failure to ruin the whole day, hastily pulled a small brass badge off of her scarf and held it out to the group. “I’d like to know how these badges work, please!”

It was obvious to everyone involved that everyone had dug too deep into this whole ordeal. Even so, Lens & Annulus’s eyes lit up, excited to get to infodump about this and (hopefully) soothe their friend at the same time!

“Ah, the Tele-Badges!” began Annulus, eyeing a cinnamon roll in the basket. “You’ve noticed those really tall posts with some kind of crystal at the top before, right? Those are Relay Towers.”

She then dove for the roll, passing the baton to Lens. These two were experts at maintaining an even split of informational speaking. “When you activate a Tele-Badge, it sends a signal using refracted light to the nearest Relay Tower, which then gets sent via Ley connection to the nearest Relay Hub.”

Annulus nodded. “There, the transport request is authorized, sending a signal back over to the Relay Tower, to aim a capture beam to coordinates about 20 centimeters in front of the Tele-Badge, which is what teleports you or the pokémon you’re rescuing!”

“The maths, leys, and crystal minutia that makes all this possible is great to behold! It makes me proud, the accomplishments of us pokémon!” Lens had hot, joyful tears streaming down his face.

“And for extra pride, these marvels were first invented here on the Mist Continent by HAPPI, the Helping Adventurous Pokémon Prosper Institute!” Annulus stuck a pose and smiled to Dork.

Virizion narrowed her eyes. “I think she already knows what HAPPI stands for, considering she and Andrea have to run things by them all the time.”

“Also, technically HAPPI wasn’t the first to invent Tele-Badges.” chimed in Keldeo.

“Ah right.” Annulus’s espeon tail flicked a bit before she continued. “So, the pokémon at HAPPI were actually the first to… re-engineer the ancient precursor to Tele-Badges. You see, while HAPPI is the oldest still-existing organization…”

“…the oldest-known org, the Alchemists’ League, was the first to actually invent them.” Lens finished the sentence. The look on his and his sister’s face seemed much more somber now.

Dork wasn’t sure what to make of any of this. “So then… why is HAPPI’s invention considered…? Or, um, why did they have to re-engineer it?”

Virizion was the one to answer. “The Alchemists’ League has an infamous reputation among researchers like us. As they were disbanding, due to some sort of calamity that had occurred, they destroyed as much of their research and inventions as they could, even going as far as they could to wipe the records of outside groups who recorded their activities. But of course, they were never able to get all of it. The scraps of vague, sometimes mythical-seeming information make them an eternal rival to us researchers. What they achieved is tantalizing to brains like ours, but their destruction of their knowledge hurts our hearts.”

The other four nodded. Even someone like Dork, who wasn’t the best at reading body language, could still, thanks mainly to Virizion’s explanation, see how this was a heavy subject to them.

After a brief silence, Keldeo tried to follow up, to not end this picnic on a sad note. “Ultimately, I like to believe that the past should give us hope. From independent researchers like us, to organizations like HAPPI, we’re discovering new knowledge, whether it match a known Alchemists’ League creation or something entirely new! We’re making new strides every day!”

Lens nodded as he bit into a cinnamon roll. “Plus, when HAPPI finally figured out the Tele-Badges, they immediately shared it with other orgs! Like the Pokémon Rescue Organization on the Air Continent, or the Pokémon Exploration Team Federation on the Grass Continent, and I forget who operates the system on the Water Continent...”

Virizion, blunt as ever, answered, “Expedition Society. They are very, very, small as far as organizations go, I don’t blame you for forgetting. I do, however, say you should brush up on your memorization if you wish to research on my level.”

“What!?” “What!?” Lens & Annulus, ever in sync, yelled half-jokingly.

“Who knows? Maybe once Emilio’s been on a few more dates with me, even he could give you two a run for your money.” Virizion smirked, as she always did when ribbing her friends.

The eeveelution siblings chuckled. “Well, we say you should brush up on your… sparring! Starting now!”

The three launched into a play-spar, laughing heartily as they let out some energy. Dork looked on in relief. She was always happy to see her friends in high spirits. That’s what made Paradise worth it! She made a note to herself to think of ideas on archiving and sharing knowledge in Paradise to make sure no one could ever destroy it. Maybe even write down what she could over in the human world, for extra assurance she could give to her friends, about the future of discovery.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a shout from her partner, Andrea, glistening with sweat from being in the middle of a job. “Hey Dork! Can you help me with this slab for a minute?”

Dork excitedly started running over. “I’m coming!”

it should come. to no surprise that skuntank gets a place here. skuntank is what got me into pokemon in the first place. i was the Skunk Kid growing up. skunks (+ generally anything stinky) were my WORLD and still are today (side eyes url 👀). i thought they were so cute and their spray was really interesting and every fictional skunk jus fuckin got m heart goin crazy and fuckin!! htey’re so COOL!!!! I LOVE SKUNKSS and i found out abt skuntank when i heard his dex entry on my tv goin

So yesterday while waiting for my laptop to get fixed, I went ahead and started playing Mega Man 3 on the Legacy Collection (3DS version).

I considered taking on Shadow Man buster-only, but decided to give Top Spin a chance instead. I ended up defeating Shadow Man with only a quarter health remaining and no ammo left for Top Spin, and now Rock is a dizzy boy.

(You can tell I drew Rush from memory because I messed up with his paws.)

Believe it or not, I was part of the @pmdereunion mega-collab project. This was done to celebrate the 10th anniversary of PMD-Explorers, a group where artists came together to create their own art and stories.

The piece you see here features my own Team Firelight (formerly Team Firestar) as well as @sanngot's Team Trample. I'm glad I was able to find the opportunity to draw my babies again!

PMD July Day 31-Return (Hello)

Series: General Spoilers: None, Really Notes: Angst*

Continuation of this. I recommend you read it, if you haven’t.

You drift, in a sea of nothing.

Waiting for someone, something to awaken you.

You have been walking your life in a daze.

How long have you been here, how much longer will it be?

You are a piece of clay, waiting to be molded.

You are a block of wood, waiting to be carved.

You can be anything, you are nothing.

No. You were someone. You were a hero. You had a friend who stood with you. You remember them.

You remember the world you left, the world you saved.

You want to return to that world, but it no longer exists.

You abandoned it, when you were told to grow up.

You left it, when they told you to stop being a child and stop doing childish thing.

How foolish you were, to listen to those who did not understand you.

They laughed at your childishness, at your imagination.

You gave in to stop them from laughing at you, mocking you.

But they kept beating you down.

Specialty gardens: The Volunteer Park Conservatory and the Japanese Garden are closed. CURRENTLY OPEN: Shower program: SPR’s free shower program for Seattle Public Schools students and community members in need will continue at Delridge, Green Lake, Meadowbrook, and Rainier community centers. Miller’s shower program is currently being used only for the shelter residents currently in place there. Parks: All SPR parks, trails and open spaces are open (with the exception of the Volunteer Park Conservatory and the Japanese Garden). Play area, boat launches, tennis courts, picnic shelters, and other high-touch amenities are still closed at this time. We ask that you assist us in encouraging your friends, families, and neighborhoods to continue to follow public health guidelines about physical separation as you visit our parks and open spaces. In addition, if your favorite park is crowded, we invite you to discover others among our more than 480 parks. I know that these continued facility closures and program cancelations are increasingly challenging to the many of us who rely on SPR for places to gather and connect with friends, family and community around health, wellness, educational, athletic, recreational, and environmental offerings. Inktober Day 31 - Headcanon

Probably one of my favourite PMD headcanons - the human from the future in Explorers is actually Darkrai after taking Palkia’s attack in the Dimensional Hole. It’s one of my favourites because it explains why there’s some random ass human wandering around the ruined future when in every other game the world of humans and Pokemon are separated from one another.

31 Days of PMD: An Interconnected Series of Vignettes

Day 15: Dungeon

Game: Rescue Team

Theme: Difference in Experiences, Helping Those You Can

Spoilers: Very start of game

Tiny Woods might as well been called Towering Woods for the two tiny pokémon walking around in there. The first in the small line was a torchic named Danny. Walking-while-cowering behind her was a treecko named Razr. They had both only just met less than an hour ago, and both of them were anxious with fear.

Razr had always been afraid of mystery dungeons. The lack of consistent spatial sense was disorienting and the dungeon illusions, which were strange, non-speaking facsimiles of pokémon that attacked any unfortunate pokémon that entered. He had been fortunate to never really have a need to go in one willingly, though he had daydreamed about having the courage to go into them fearlessly and rescue pokémon in need. But today, when he and Danny were abruptly approached by a panicked mother, who insisted there was no time to go into town to get a professional Rescue Team on the case, the dream seemed to be coming true, minus the bravery.

“That butterfree’s really, really worried. I just hope me and Danny can actually pull this off...”

Danny, meanwhile, had only just arrived here, with amnesia to boot. She had absolutely no idea what any of this was. Without any experience living in this world, or this body (she used to be a human), it was all a cavalcade of new, a cavalcade of intimidatingly daunting and dangerous events. Where she once had long and dexterous arms, she now had stubby wings that couldn’t grab anything. Her legs, also now stubby, were bombarded by a revelry of uncomfortable scrapes and sensations mostly inflicted by her own clumsiness. All she could do was try to feel out how to even pull this mission off… a little kid was in danger, after all.

“The poor caterpie… I hope we can find him soon. These trees seem like they’re stretching on forever! Why are these paths strangely rectangular? I need to watch where I’m going so don’t step on yet another rock. I should probably ask Razr how to use like, those elemental Moves because I do at least know I’m a fire-type which is supposed to be useful for those dungeon… uh things, I gotta ask Razr what that term was again...”

She used her talons to pick up some blue fruit she found while scanning the ground and passed it to the hands-having treecko. “Hey Razr, I was wondering...”

Razr accidentally crushed the Oran Berry as he received it. He was quite tense. Hopefully, his nerves wouldn’t make him blank on this yet-another-question from her. “Wondering what?”

“Do you? Er- Is there a trick to using like, the Moves of the elemental types, like…? You know a grass-type Move, right?”

“Uh, yeah I do but… trick to it? I know you said you’re human and that’s probably why you don’t know, but it’s… just something you know how to do. I don’t know how I can explain it at all...” He saw Danny’s face fall and panickedly added: “B-but I can try to think of how I do it! And how to explain it! I’ve kind of never had to really battle in my life so uh, not really trained to teach if you know what I mean, ha ha haaa….”

As the two entered a narrow passage, known to seasoned Rescuers as “hallways” (and thus, neither of them knew they were called that). Razr followed as Danny slowly inched forward. The novice torchic was staring directly at the ground, focusing on walking more carefully. Due to this, she was failing to notice the illusory exeggcute that was hopping directly toward her.

A pit dropped in Razr’s stomach. What was Danny doing?! He tried to speak, but was having trouble getting anything out besides whispery mumbles. His eyes darted back and forth between Danny and the exeggcute, praying that she’d notice in time.

Then, Danny paused. Did she finally notice the enemy up ahead and making a plan? “Whew, that’s right… dungeon illusions slow down if you slow down. She’s probably formulating a plan of attack right now, thank goodness!” thought Razr. This emotion was quickly dashed when Danny just spun in place instead, apparently testing out some leg motion, shrieking a kiai as she did so. The exeggcute reacted by advancing dangerously closer.

“Augh!” Razr had to face the hard truth. How Danny outright told him more than one reason she didn’t know how to fight! And yet he’d been cowering behind her this whole time. Whether he liked it or not, he was the more experienced of the two, and needed to take action! He quickly took a deep breath and aimed his mouth straight ahead. He was a head taller than Danny so with the next hop the dungeon illusion would take, he’d have a clear shot.

And as the hop came, he roared out, “Here I go! Dragon Breath!”

Danny finally clued in that danger was a mere foot away from her when Razr invoked his Move. She stared ahead as the purple flame of Dragon Breath soared over her head, slightly brushing against her head feathers, and hit the exeggcute directly in mid-air. The illusion fell to the ground and faded. Razr just defeated it in one shot.

After taking a second to process this, she turned around to look at Razr. (though not in the eyes) Now, she was missing a lot of memories, but some that she retained had to do with pokémon, and with that knowledge came some preconceptions. The one relevant to this situation was that she was not expecting Razr, a treecko, to have a powerful Move like Dragon Breath, especially not one who had admitted to not having battled as much as most pokémon.

She took a staggered breath. “H-how do you know that move? That was… you have Dragon Breath!?”

Razr blinked, staring back at her. He was trying to look at her eyes. “I mean, uh… is that? Or, I guess it is. You see, the thing about me…” He rubbed the back of his head. “… I’m rich. My father owns the largest applemeal and grain mill in the area. I, uh, don’t know if you know or remember the concept of money, but... even though I’ve never gone into a dungeon without a powerful chaperone, my father still got me this expensive TM, to allow me access to a Move like this. But… I’ve never had a reason to actually use it, for real, until now.”

Danny finally looked up at his face. Razr could see something… he wasn’t sure what the emotion he saw in her eyes was, only that it was incredibly positive. The torchic quickly averted her gaze once again. Evidently even when she made eye contact for some reason, she’d catch on and so couldn’t do so for long. Looking sheepishly down at the ground, she said, “So Razr, was the reason…? Is the reason you finally used that Move, to protect me?”

Razr blushed, not knowing how to take a comment he had never before received in his life. Sure he had covered the rescue fees of countless pokémon, but… gratitude like this? Where he had finally physically defended someone? This was new territory. And his heart pounded with fervor. It was such a new, exciting experience. Whether he was ready or not, fate had thrown him someone who had spurred him to take this leap. He felt more than he ever did, that his dream was within his reach. He could be a protector, a rescuer!

“Um, uh… Well I mean- you seemed like you were still trying to figure out the Move thing and so I thought I’d, uh, yeah. Protect you, heh heh!” He took a deep breath again, but this time to just, live in the moment. He was relieved. “Anyway Danny, what do you say we go rescue that caterpie, huh?”

Danny nodded and started running down the hallway. “Yes! I’m on it!” she chirped, confident in the friendship bond she’d just started.

“Alright! Then, oh hey! Wait for me!”
