This year has been nuts. But one great thing to come of it is reading. I’ve read far beyond my yearly goal and it’s only October!
Here are a few of my favorite reads this year:
1. Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card (sequel to Ender’s Game).
This one was gripping and absolutely nuts! The story is unique and deep, but it’s also strange and a little chilling. Highly recommend!
2. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
This book completely sucked me in. I’m a sucker for dystopian, sci-fi novels with sociopolitical undertones. This one was exciting and fast-paced.
3. Educated by Tara Westover.
This one is a non-fiction memoir about a girl raised in a home filled with conspiracies and propaganda. She eventually leaves and reflects on her childhood and how it shaped her. I loved it!
4. The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
This is a dark academia favorite and I can see why. It’s deep, filled with mysterious characters, and completely enthralling. I already want to read it again.
5. Red Rising by Pierce Brown.
Sci-fi but for adults! Brown does an AMAZING job of creating a world of unfair hierarchies and lies. It’s a beautiful portrayal of flawed characters, an unbalanced world, and a fight for justice. I’m hooked!
6. Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson.
I read this beauty in less than 24 hours. It’s a murder mystery novel with incredible characters and a fascinating murder case. I immediately bought the second one, read it in less than 24 hours, and now I’m waiting on the third installment. Read this for breathless moments and super hilarious one-liners.
Thar’s all for now but my booklist this year has been all over the place. I’m currently reading Black Chalk by Christopher Yates and I’m stoked to see how it goes.
