thinking about javier after the gang fell apart...

uhhh some thoughts below⬇️

what javier did between the events of rdr2 and rdr1 has always been in my mind. I just think he was an absolute mess. he wasn't coping with the fact that he not only lost the family he tried so desperately to hold onto, he also realized that he fucked up horrendously, and there's no going back to fix it and the guilt and regret eats at him like nothing else.

he really just. stops taking care of himself, I don't think he cuts his hair short yet but he lets it grow and doesn't care for it like he used to. he doesn't sleep, he never bathes, he drinks and cries when he's alone, he just wanders between cantinas in nuevo paraiso, hoping he stays under the radar of the government.

i like to think something happens that makes him snap out of it, whatever it might be. when he does, his hair is so matted he just ends up cutting it all off with his knife

like those 12 years are something I want to elaborate on bc it's still wild to me that rdr2 javier and rdr1 javier are the same person

New illustration for my fanfic on AO3. I went back and did one for Ch. 16. I had so much fun drawing this scene. I head canon that big tough Arthur is terrified of getting stitches, especially after watching John get his face sewn up. So I thought about the wolf attack in the 2nd Albert Mason mission. I can imagine Albert being thrilled at attempting Field Medicine and using whatever he had on hand to do so. Poor Arthur.

i think when arthur and john were younger john had asked arthur how far he could throw him, arthur ignored him and turned away from him, john started to taunt arthur by saying "you can't throw me," "you're so weak," etc being an annoying little shit till arthur just got so annoyed, hoisted him up and thrown him in the field to which he immediately realized what he had just done, panicked thinking about how dutch, hosea and susan were going to kill him and ran after john. john was fine, he just had a fractured nose and some scrapes and bruises, his clothes was covered in dirt and grass stains. he found the whole thing hilarious, but moaned in pain everytime he laughed.

I think about the fact Arthur died cold and alone on hard gravel a normal amount.

I think about how his life was marked by loss and challenge and death which he always blamed on himself more then anyone a normal amount. I think about how his chest probably got heavier when he died, about how it felt like going to sleep, how his brain fogged over the memories of his life as soon as they flashed before his eyes so there would be no going back to relive any. I think about how he probably saw his son in Jack and himself in John, running with his tail between his legs. How some deep part of himself knew he hated John because it was easier then hating himself even when he knew he really, really hated himself because that burden just felt too heavy to carry until he knew it wouldn’t matter and absolution would wash him clean. How he wondered if maybe things would’ve been better if he’d never left, if he’d been a lone little cross on the front lawn. Then seeing the fractured remains of the Downe’s family, a glimpse into a different but equally bleak timeline. I think about how his dying breath was a choked up wheeze he never got out a normal amount. About how the name Isaac originated from a bible story in which a disciple of God is ordered to kill his only son for Him. I think about how Arthur died with his back facing west watching the sunrise a normal amount.

Honest.

New Rdr2 Fic Idea Staring Arthur obvi my bb daddy. Anyways The van der linde gang isn’t a gang they’re a traveling band Dutch, Arthur, John maybe Hosea? Are the main guys everyone else either plays an instrument or is a crew member, driver, cook, groupies whatever you name it! Can be based in 1899 Or modern times either way would be interesting! Arthur pairing with whoever but if someone can make it Joel(tlou)/Arthur id love them for ever 😘.
