Merengkuh perasaan puan.

Perempuan itu menangis dalam sebuah perbincangan singkatnya melalui telpon. Hatikupun ikut menangis seketika.

Ia, seorang perempuan yang sangat sederhana. Ingin benar-benar ada yang mengupayakannya atau setidaknya memahami perasaannya. Untuk sampai dititik ini, tentu tidak pernah mudah untuknya. Namun seringkali ia memendam lekat-lekat lukanya sendiri, dan mengabaikan rasa sakit yang ia rasa sendiri.

Tidak ada yang benar-benar memahaminya sekalipun kepada mereka yang ia sebut kedua orangtuanya. Hatinya merasakan lelah dan hampa. Tak tahu kemana harus melangkah, tak tahu apa yang seharusnya ia tuju. Dia benar-benar kehilangan apa yang telah menjadi inginnya. Sebab seringkali ia selalu mengubur dalam-dalam suara hatinya, demi orang lain hanya agar untuk diterima.

Perempuan ini begitu banyak lukanya, ya Allaah. Aku merasa iba kepadanya. Tak pernah aku melihat ia bahagia atas pilihannya sendiri. Sebab semua dalam hidupnya ia tak pernah benar-benar memilih kemauannya, kesukaannya, dan kecintaannya. Semua yang ada pada dirinya adalah banyaknya keputusan orang lain dalam hidupnya.

Ia tak pernah benar-benar memahami perihal apa yang ingin ia tuju, perihal apa yang ingin ia gapai, perihal apa yang ingin ia genggam erat. Ia kehilangan itu semua, ia bahkan sudah lama kehilangan dirinya sendiri. Namun tak ada yang memahami kepergiannya.

Mata yang dulu memancarkan cahaya kebaikan dan ketulusan seiring waktu berlalu telah memudar dan menghilang begitu saja. Berubah menjadi mata yang begitu tajam yang seolah-olah akan menerkam mangsanya. Aku tahu dia seorang perempuan yang baik ya Allaah. Sebab ia seorang yang baik, aku selalu menangis setiap kali mengingatnya.

Ia selalu saja bingung dengan apa yang sedang ia lakukan. Ia tak pernah benar-benar paham dengan apa yang sedang ia tuju. Ia berjalan dan terus berjalan sesuai apa yang telah diperintahkan oleh orang-orang disekitarnya. Ia tak pernah dipahami, ia tak pernah dibela pendapatnya sekalipun itu benar, ia selalu dikucilkan, diejek, dan disalahkan prinsip hidupnya. Hatiku sakit setiap kali ada yang menyakitinya ya Allaah. Hatiku begitu sakit sekali.

Dan kini, ia sedang diuji. Aku melihat matanya penuh dengan kebingungan. Matanya mencari sesuatu yang ia sendiri nggak tahu sedang mencari apa. Tolong dia, ya Allaah. Hanya Engkau yang dia punya. Sekalipun dalam perjalanannya begitu terjal untuk mendekat kepadaMu. Tolong dia.

Sudah terlalu banyak luka yang ia rasakan. Baik luka fisik maupun hatinya. Ia sudah terlalu banyak terluka, ya Allaah. Bukan salahnya dia menjadi seperti itu. Sungguh bukan salahnya. Juga bukan sepenuhnya salah orangtuanya dalam mendidiknya menjadi seperti itu. Ada banyak hal yangembuatnya menjadi seperti ini.

Doaku dalam jauh, ku mohon tolong dia ya Rabb. Tolong lembutkan hati orang-orang yang menyakitinya untuk tidak lagi menorehkan luka yang sama kedua kalinya. Aku mencintainya karenaMu, dan hanya doa yang bisa ku panjatkan kepadaMu untuknya yang sedang terluka. Tolong dia, tolong kami, tolong ya Allaah.

Waktu berjalan dengan cepat, masih teringat dengan jelas anak kecil itu menangis tersedu-sedu walau pada waktu itu ia belum sepenuhnya paham tentang makna kepergian, yang ia tahu ibunya telah pergi meninggalkan dan tidak akan bisa hidup lagi.

Sejak saat itu ia menjadi ketakutan setiap kali mendengar suara sirene mobil ambulance, gemetar ketika harus masuk ke dalam rumah sakit terutama jika melewati ruang ICU. Memori kesedihan masih menjadi ingatan yang tidak pernah bisa ia lupakan, sepanjang hidupnya.

Lubang di hatinya tercipta, lubang yang tidak bisa ia tutup meski dengan apapun ia mencobanya. Ia melewati masa pertumbuhan sebagai remaja perempuan sendirian, berusaha menjadi dewasa sebelum waktunya.

Lagi, lagi, hidup memang tidak pernah mudah. Namun ia masih bertahan dengan tetap tersenyum lebar.

Terima kasih ya, karena sudah kuat! Kini, hanya sedang rindu.

Vandaag is het weer weegdag. Om 9.50 heb ik de afspraak. Goed gekeken of ik een parkeermeter zag en idd die staat er. Voor 60 cent ben ik klaar 😅

Vandaag een andere coach want Natascha is een weekje skiën. Ook deze coach weer super tevreden. Morgen is het 5 weken geleden dat ik ben begonnen en ik ben nu precies 8 kilo afgevallen.

Gewoon lekker zo doorgaan dus. Na de meting mam opgepikt en haar naar de tandarts gereden in Ouderkerk ad Amstel. Ze heeft een gaatje dus nog een keer terug in maart.

Na de tandarts mam naar huis gebracht en nog even mee naar binnen gegaan. Nog wat bakjes eten meegenomen, Marcel zijn verjaardagscadeautje en de wekker die ze had besteld, maar die kan weer terug. Marcel heeft de verkeerde kleur meegenomen 😅

Na mam door naar AH en voor 2 dagen boodschappen gehaald. Ook maar meteen naar TICA gereden en uiteindelijk kom ik op 15.30 thuis. Bestellingen ingepakt en naar DHL gebracht. Ik zou ook nog de was doen, dus de eerste was ook in de wasmachine gedaan.

Ik heb iets te weinig gegeten vandaag denk ik: 1 zakje zuivel, 3 crackers met rosbief, een paar ingebrande amandelen en een quinoa maaltijdsalade.

Na het eten een cappuccino en daarna weer naar boven om nog een bestelling in te pakken die Marcel dan morgen kan bezorgen bij een klant in Amstelveen.

Het is nu 21.15, ik pak een glas Pepsi Max en even lekker tv kijken.

Antes de examinar los versículos de hoy, lea Mateo 26.69-75 y considere las acciones de Pedro en ese momento. Cuantas más personas le preguntaban sobre su relación con Cristo, más enfáticas se volvían sus negaciones. Al principio dijo: “No sé lo que dices” (Mt 26.70). Después negó al Señor con un juramento, y finalmente “comenzó a maldecir, y a jurar” (Mt 26.72-74).

Pero cuando el gallo cantó, recordó sus palabras de la noche anterior: “Yo nunca me escandalizaré”. Al punto de declarar que nunca negaría al Señor, incluso si eso significaba morir con Él (Mt 26.31-35). A pesar de toda esa falsa valentía, el apóstol falló justo como el Señor dijo que lo haría. No es de extrañar que Pedro llorara con amargura.

Unos días después, cuando vio al Señor en la orilla, Pedro se lanzó al mar y corrió hacia su Salvador. Imagínese cómo debió haberse sentido al mirar a Aquel que amaba y había traicionado. Después de la comida, el Señor le permitió a Pedro volver a las respuestas que había dado en medio del pánico y el miedo. Y con cada afirmación, el discípulo sabía que estaba perdonado y que era amado. Cristo nos ofrece esa misma experiencia, ahora y siempre. Nunca deja de buscar, nunca deja de perdonar a todos los que lo llaman Señor y Salvador.

'Serpent's Skin': How Hajir Darioush's breakthrough movie birthed the Iranian New Wave

Before the mid-1960s, the cinema of Iran was characterised mainly by a certain degree of moral and ideological simplicity. The popular genre of Filmfarsi, which dominated even until the late 1970s, usually presented melodramas or comedies with stereotypical characters and straightforward moral lessons. Such films, like Esmail Koushan’s Pretty Foe, rarely ventured into socio-political critique or complex storytelling – they used simple ‘comedy of errors’ plotlines and generally played for laughs or romance.

Similarly, movies produced during the Pahlavi era often echoed state-endorsed ideologies, emphasising the virtues of modernisation and Westernisation in line with the Shah’s own policies. While exceptions like Ebrahim Golestan’s The Brick and the Mirror offered more intellectual engagement, they were outliers in a landscape primarily focused on entertainment or state-sanctioned themes. This was just over a decade before Iran’s cultural revolution of 1980, which replaced secularism with a strict form of political and religious Islam. 

So, when Hajir Darioush’s Serpent’s Skin emerged in 1964, it marked a radical departure from the norm. Darioush’s audacious storytelling and nuanced direction introduced a new level of sophistication that was virtually unheard of in Iranian cinema at the time. The film encouraged audiences to engage in critical thought, question the status quo, and explore the grey areas of morality and identity.

Based on DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Dariosh’s experimental short work follows a middle-aged modern Iranian woman confronted with her own age after striking up a tentative romance with a much younger man. The technical aspects of Serpent’s Skin also marked a massive divergence from established norms.

Darioush opted for a minimalist approach, with meticulous framing and subtle lighting that lent the movie a raw emotional gravity and frequently intercut between multiple narrators to paint a more vivid picture of contemporary Iran. These elements contrasted sharply with the high-octane visuals and melodramatic performances characteristic of Filmfarsi and other mainstream Iranian productions.

The influence of Serpent’s Skin on the Iranian New Wave was profound. The groundbreaking work of Darioush inspired upcoming directors like Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi, and Asghar Farhadi. They would go on to adopt and further refine the storytelling techniques and technical prowess that Serpent’s Skin had pioneered. Films like Kiarostami’s 1990 Close-Up or Panahi’s The Circle, which came a year later, would continue to challenge and provoke both Iranian and international audiences, just as Darioush had done.

Nearly six decades later, Serpent’s Skin remains a touchstone for scholars, critics, and auteurs who explore the complex landscape of Iranian culture and cinematic expression. Its impact on the Iranian New Wave has been enduring, paving the way for seminal entries to Iranian cinema like Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, marking it not just as a groundbreaking film but as a historical landmark that redefined what the country’s cinema could be.

Inquiring minds (me) are curious... I'd love to know more about the meaning behind your blog title "A Mouth and Wisdom" and icon! I noticed you changed your icon a while back and have been wondering! ☺️ If you already addressed this somewhere my apologies for my sporadicity (new word woot).

My friend, sporadicity is one of your most endearing traits, right up there with your knack for inventing words ☺️

So I’m not religious in any way, shape or form, but while researching for one of my original works I came across the bible verse Luke 21.15. One of the translations is:

“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.”

I have no idea what the context is, but just looking at the verse as a stand-alone it resonates with me.

To be able to shape wisdom into words that others can draw their own interpretation from in a way that gives their lives a deeper meaning, and to do that so skillfully that even those who might disagree with the words themselves would respect the weight of what I have to say - that, I think, on some level, hits a part of something inherent in every human being, our intrinsic desire to leave an impression on the world, our own personal signature on a universe so big it defies our comprehension and a history extending into a past and a future so distant we will never truly understand it.

I place so much value in the art of words (obviously) so I guess the concept of “a mouth and wisdom” is sort of a guiding principle of mine. A way to make sure I leave my mark, my signature. Or whatever. I’m sure there’s a fancy philosophy term for it but my mind is drawing a blank right now.

As for the icon - that’s not nearly as long-winded of an answer 😅. It’s seaweed in the shape of a heart, I randomly found it on a beach formed exactly like the pic and thought it was cool lol.
