Shaggy - Hey Sexy Lady 2002

Lucky Day (2002) is the sixth studio album released by Jamaican-American singer Shaggy. It peaked at number 24 on the Billboard 200 and later reached Gold certification. Shaggy have scored hits with the previous singles "It Wasn't Me", "Boombastic", and "Angel". He has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best Reggae Album with Boombastic in 1996 and 44/876 with Sting in 2019, and has won the Brit Award for International Male Solo Artist in 2002. In 2007, he was awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction with the rank of Commander. In 2022, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Brown University.

"Hey Sexy Lady" was released in November 2002 as the first single from Lucky Day. The song features Brian and Tony Gold and the song uses the Sexy Lady Explosion riddim with additional beats. As of August 2014, it was the 110th best-selling single of the 21st century in France, with 287,000 units sold.

"Hey Sexy Lady" received a total of 49,8% yes votes.

Exhibition | Ah New Riddim: A Marked (Black) Axiological Shift at Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space

Can the axiologies and stories oscillating at the margins mark the discourse of Western logic positioned at the center, and how might this marking register in visual representations of the urban?

Ah New Riddim (2023) is the third and final iteration of the multimedia series Constructs and Context Relativity (2019-2023) by interdisciplinary artist Christie Neptune. The installation and interactive documentary examines the spatial-temporal relationship of memory and place embedded within the implosion of dancehall culture in East Flatbush. The film utilizes 80’s dancehall archival footage, the quiet of black subjectivity, and concentric interactive storytelling to expound the relationship between black globality and dancehall in the American urban. In a pivot around her embodied experience as a black Caribbean American, Neptune considers the potential of black popular culture in marking space.

In Ah New Riddim, concentric storytelling registers a cacophony of black perspectives. Neptune’s subjective experience in the American urban and the migration stories of community members in East Flatbush pivot around dancehall home video of Neptune’s father. Research, writing, and art produced from this series work to frame an artistic intelligence around Marked Axiological Shifts, a concept introduced by Neptune in a recent essay that defines a new language in visual culture grounded in African world-making cosmologies.

Marked Axiological Shifts are nonlinear and interactive artistic approaches that register a perpetual reimagining of black futures across space and time. It marks the decorum of modern cinema and visual culture with the conventions of African temporality to foster multiple planes of perspectives and fields of movement within concentric forward moving narratives mapped across moving images, sculpture, performance art, and print. In this exhibition, six channels of video interface with scaffolded speakers made of mirror, LED monitors, and wood. The speakers, a re-articulation of the Caribbean Sound System tradition, add further nuance to the filmic encounter in space. As material, screen, haptic surface, and sculptural unit, the sound system transmits information that doubles the spectator’s spatial perception. Upon contact, the spectator experiences temporal disjuncture caused by the collapse of their point of view, embodied form, and projected media upon the unit’s reflective surface. The gesture fosters multiple fields of viewing within a single expressive form, an element integral to African frameworks of temporality.

Ah New Riddim demonstrates the potential of black popular culture within representational practices that speaks across both dominant and marginal spatialities. This new framework of understanding considers the agency of marked axiological shifts within discursive urban space, an intervention that superimposes a wide aperture of black subjectivity(s) upon the narrow plane of the American urban.

JOEBOY ANNOUNCES FIRST UK HEADLINE TOUR

From West Africa to London to Latin America, Joeboy has been making serious waves across the world in recent years. Now the Nigerian hitmaker has announced a mini headline tour of the UK, taking in dates in London, Manchester and Birmingham in May and June 2023.

With a UK fan-base hungry to see him perform live, tickets are expected to go quickly - so with this in mind Joeboy’s team have shared a registration link for fans to sign up for priority access to avoid any disappointment - here.

“I wanted to give all my UK fans access to my upcoming shows, I felt sharing a sign up link ahead of the tour would be the most fair option for this.” Joeboy says “I love my UK fans and I can not wait to bring my live show to London, Manchester and Birmingham.”

The Afropop star will be performing tracks from his upcoming album, Body & Soul. Dropping in April, the 14 track LP boasts tracks full of love, good vibes and happiness - filled back-to-front with Joeboy’s trademark free-flowing lyricism and radiant riddims, and featuring contributions from a wealth of Nigerian talent.

Having established himself as one of Afrobeats' biggest hitmakers, Joeboy has accrued over three billion streams, working with cohorts such as Diplo, CKay and Mr Eazi. Known for penning love songs which pull from African and Caribbean vibes, his music has garnered global media support from outlets such as Rolling Stone, COLORS, Vice, Billboard, Complex, and The FADER.

The Lagos native released his debut EP Love & Light in November 2019 and appeared on the #1 single in 2020 ‘Nobody’ with DJ Neptune and Mr Eazi. Probably because the presets are pre-defined chord progressions and not just a group of chords in a specific key like Cthulhu. Its workflow is quite different from Cthulhu and its got a great assortment of presets, artist/genre specific progressions and chords/scales, but I just don't find it as immediately inspiring as Cthulhu. The presets that come with Cthulhu are crap, but if you purchase the ones from Snow Audio or ADSR, they are all in specific keys and are great for exploring chord progressions. In my opinion, Cthulhu is the best, but thats probably because of how it fits into my workflow and the presets it has.

Due to pandemic rules, the world has been denied large-scale concerts and tours over the past couple of years. French EDM artist DJ Snake, real name William Grigahcine, has consistently stated that India will be one of the first nations he returns to perform in whenever the situation improves.

DJ snake to tour from November 18-27:

DJ snake has now fulfilled that promise by announcing a six-city tour as part of the Sunburn Arena concert series, which will begin on November 18 in Ahmedabad and end on November 27 in Bengaluru. The songwriter of popular songs like "Disco Maghreb," "Taki Taki," and "Magenta Riddim" will also appear in Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi on November 19, 20, 21, and 26, respectively. Prices for tickets will range from 999 and up, and they will go on sale on August 22, 2022, at 12 p.m. The musician has travelled India numerous times, and he most recently appeared there towards the end of 2019 as part of Sunburn's annual event in Goa. In the midst of the pandemic, DJ Snake remixed the Tamil song "Enjoy Enjaami" (performed by Dhee, Arivu, and Santhosh Narayanan) for Spotify Singles.
