everyone on twitter dot com is way too positive about this episode so i'm going to talk into the void here
#like? how are you not all literally furious at the fact that we're heading into the final fucking episode and they're still not together#all this focus on other bs that never was supposed to be a big deal in the first seasons#like.. yes we're getting villaneve next episode but? it's literally the finale?#they still havent had any proper communication this entire season and we have 40 minutes left to resolve that.#then theyre just going to die anyway#like there couldve been SO much more done this episode#and the fact that the reviewers say episode 8 just meanders from the setup of episode 7 so it was probably a waste of time anyway#they couldve had eve in scotland 20 mins into the episode#this was the first time i actually skipped through scenes because i'm that sick of watching unnecessary scenes that mean absolutely nothing#i'm so sick of seeing pam's scenes. all of that just for her to kill konstantin in the end#like is her story done now? is she going to do something else big in the finale? i genuinely dont understand what she was there for#it just feels like this is episode 4. that did not feel like a penultimate episode whatsoever#and i'm just preparing for the finale to be an absolute shit show#and we never know what happened after the bridge. so the entirity of 308 (or the entirity of s3 lets be honest) was a literal waste of time#i've said it before and i'll say it again#if that is how s3 ended whether it was out of character or not. that is the story now. dont just go and reset their entire relationship#like what was going on in their heads to think that would be a good idea to just start fresh as if they didnt turn around on the bridge#its not even like the episodes are bad. they're pretty good and i've enjoyed them#but knowing its the final season and there's 1 (ONE) episode left and they STILL arent together.... just says it all#you know what i mean anyway#and i feel bad for sandie because i know the ending is going to be piss poor and they deserve better than that after all theyve put into it#text#killing eve#ke spoilers

hear me out.. reader waking up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, so ethan takes it upon himself eat the reader out or whatever to get them back to sleep 🫡
i'm hearing all right
you know that exam season is stressful. you've been through it for years now, if your experience in high school is anything to go by plus the stressful period you had during midterms just a few months ago. you knew that exam season is stressful.
but the stress still shocks you. it keeps you away from food and friends and sleep.
which is why ethan came over with food and your sleep show. and you should be asleep, you were asleep, up until a few minutes ago when your dream ended and your bladder filled to the brim and now that you're empty again and you're comfortable in bed, you wait for sleep to find you.
but it doesn't.
it's silent in the room, netflix having shut off by now and only playing images of shows it wants you to watch, and you should be hearing the gentle sound of ethans snoring, but you don't.
so you turn over to face him and he blinks lazily at you, a slow smile spreading to his chapped lips.
"hey," he says, voice low and raspy.
"hi." your voice sounds similar.
"you can't go back to sleep, can you?" he knows you so well, it's almost embarrassing.
"yeah."
"yeah."
you shuffle and turn around, obviously reaching for your laptop which was on the floor beside the bed. before your fingertips can graze the case, ethan's pulling you back into bed.
you yelp, then laugh a little. "i was only gonna study for like 20 minutes. just until i was tired again."
he shakes his head. "i know you well enough to know that 20 turns to 40 which turns into until your exam."
true.
you sigh and lay back down, on your back this time, turning your head to look at him. "so what do you suggest will help me sleep?"
you were expecting an answer of another episode, or melatonin gummies, or even a glass of warm milk. what you didn't expect, but you should've truth be told, was ethan to situate himself between your legs on his haunches, and begin to tug at your sleep shorts with a sly smirk.
"i think i read somewhere that head has the same effects as melatonin gummies if it's given between the hours of ..." he trailed off to look at your clock and you did too. 2:03 AM. "2 and 3 AM."
your laugh is joyous and infectious, it has ethan's eyes crinkling and his chest shaking as he parrots the sound.
"yeah, okay. worth a shot." you lift your hips to help him shimmy your one layer off, then spread your legs, bent at the knee, to welcome him in.
his warm breath against your cunt has an initial shiver running up your spine, and the first lick of his warm tongue makes you flinch, but his hands hold you still, his fingers digging into the plush fat of your thighs, and you're so comfortable where you are.
with each lick and suck from ethan, the bed becomes comfier, you begin to sink into the mattress more, your eyelids get heavier and your muscles do too.
by the time he'd added a finger, curling it within your fluttering walls, you're already reaching your peak, and sleep is so close that you can almost feel it.
"'s close, e," you tell him, pushing your hips further into his face. "jus a little more." your hand finds his hair and you grip, pushing him further in. when ethan moans, delivering a few more licks to your cunt, you cum, hard and satisfactory.
your come down is mixed with you falling asleep, and you have just enough energy to register ethan kissing the inside of your left thigh and sliding up to pull you to his chest before you're mumbling a hard-to-hear "thank you" and falling asleep, not to wake again until your alarm hours from now.

Parfum d’étoile - episode fourty-one
scaramouche x reader smau
Tumblr media
previous | masterlist | next
You weren’t late this time.
You were in front of your door gripping the fabric of your clothes in one hand and holding your phone in the other, waiting for him to text.
You turned your phone off then right back on to check the time.
3:32pm
Scaramouche’s classes ended at 3 and he texted you to let you know he’d stop by his dorm room to change but he was awfully long.
You started to think he might’ve stood you up and that you looked utterly stupid standing there.
As you started thinking that, he suddenly texted.
You could only see so much of the text on the notification that was displayed on your screen but you could read the words
‘Sorry, lots of things happened so I’m not…’
Your stomach dropped and you didn’t even want to read the rest of the text message but you were way too curious to not do so.
‘Sorry lots of things happened so i’m not gonna be able to pick u up rn but i’ll be there in less than 20 i swear’
You sighed in relief and your thumbs flew over your keyboard to text back.
´Dpn’t start a rext like tjat beo u scaref me… its finr tho i was gonba be late 2 neways.´
That was a lie.
´Good i feel less bad now’
He added a crying emoji at the end of his sentence, something out of character for him. You couldn’t tell if it was supposed to express relief or if he was making fun of you.
The cold air made your fingers shaky and it made it hard to type correctly but he didn’t seem to pay any mind to that.
You’ve been standing outside for almost 40 minutes now. The weather was awful and it even looked like rain would start pouring at any moment now. You felt like moving from your spot would be like giving up on him like standing in lines for something you’ve been waiting for all week and then chickening out and leaving your spot out of weakness but you got tired of standing there and sent him a text before even thinking about it.
‘Hey uh i’m not feeling that good laybe we should cancel ?’
You regretted it as soon as you sent it but he already read it so it was too late to unsend
‘? Are you sure??
You closed your phone as soon as you saw his reply, not wanting to answer or to face what you did but you realised he would see the read sign and that there was no getting out of this one.
‘Nvm i can manage haha!! I just need to take a pill i’ll be good’
You lied again.
Scaramouche replied almost immediately.
‘If you’re not feeling well we can do that another day i wouldn’t want to force you’
You clenched your jaw. You never understood his mood swing, how he could clown you one second then be the most caring person you’ve met the next it was almost annoying.
‘It’s okay!! I’m already ready anyways i wouldn’t want to waste a good outfit lmao’
Now it was your turn to use a crying emoji, still not sure of what it was supposed to express.
‘Ok :(‘
You chuckled at the frowny face. That too was out of character.
After ten minutes, there were still no sight of him.
You felt like every person that walked passed knew what situation you were in and were just pitying you and god it made you feel like shit.
Maybe waiting at home would’ve been smarter.
Just as you thought that a car you recognised pulled up.
You got up abruptly, opened the door in one swift movement and threw yourself on the passager seat without even looking at who was inside the vehicle.
You let yourself sink into the seat, sighing happily as the warm air hit your skin. And just as you thought you couldn’t get more comfortable you heard his voice
"Hey, so sorry i’m late i hope you didn’t have to wait for too long." Scaramouche said
You finally looked at him for the first time today
He was wearing black baggy pants but you couldn’t tell which top he decided to put on because of the coat covering it.
"It’s fine don’t worry. ‘Was just a bit cold."
"I have a jacket in the back, do you want to borrow it ?"
"Yeah i’d love to!"
He reached for the back seat without looking and pulled out a white jacket.
He handed it to you without a word and put his hand back on the steering wheel when you took it from his hands.
You put it on quickly and felt a tad bit disappointed when you recognise Kazuha’s signature cologne on it.
It wasn’t Scaramouche’s.
" So ? Where are we going ?" He said, finally breaking the silence
"Uhmm I’m not sure anymore… Do you want to go to the aquarium ?"
"Uh sure if that’s what you want"
"You don’t really seem enthusiastic."
"Fishes aren’t my thing to be honest, but if they’re yours…"
"What’s your thing then ?"
"I don’t know."
You let out a long sigh
"You’re not helping me ! Just pick a place and we’ll go !"
"You were the one that was supposed to plan it ! Why do I have to choose ?!"
God you forgot how annoying he could be.
"Ok, ok. What about the zoo ?"
"It’s like an hour drive, though…"
"The arcade ??"
"I don’t have any coins."
"The museum ?"
"It’s a bit boring isn’t it ?"
"Ok just kill yourself." You let out a sound that could only be described as a growl "where do you want to go ?"
"Anywhere is fine" he stopped the car engine realising that decided where to go was going to take longer than intended
"Anywhere is not fine ! You don’t like any of my suggestions."
"I mean, yeah they suck but if you want to go then we’ll go. Everything is fine if you’re here."
"Don’t try to romance me, asshole ! My suggestions are great !"
"I already went to all those places a thousand times so it’s not really interesting frankly."
You mumbled an almost inaudible ‘sorry rich boy’ before sighing for the thousandth time
"What about that library/coffee shop at the mall ? They opened like a week ago."
He turned to look at you so fast you thought he’d snap his neck
"They’re open?! Why didn’t you tell me that before ?! Let’s go !" He said restarting the car.
You took a seat at one of the few tables that were in place at the back of the library.
You hoped to use that face to face moment to talk to Scaramouche more before having to tell him that you like him even thought you don’t know him as much as you wish you did.
But that hope quickly died down when you saw that he did everything but stay in place.
He seemed to love books more than anything because he was going from aisle to aisle grabbing some of them so that he could read the back and either putting them back where they belong or nesting them under his arm.
After 20 minutes of that he sat down in front of you, pushed his cup aside and put down the 7 books he had picked up.
Some were novels, some were mangas, some were comics. The genre also seemed to be very different from one book to another.
"I’m so happy they restocked, i’m going to read all of them as fast as possible." He said, taking a sip of his coffee and making a funny face when he realised it was now lukewarm.
"So… you like books, eh ?" You laughed, not finding anything else to say to start a conversation
"Yeah, books are great."
"What’s your favourite ?"
He leaned even more into the backrest of his chair
"Uhm… if i had to say one it would probably be…"
He clicked his tongue not really knowing what to answer
"Oh ! The house of leaves is a super cool one ! I love it !" He exclaimed in a ‘obviously why didn’t i think of that one before’ voice.
"Oh really ? I never heard of it i should check it out."
"What’s your favourite ?"
"Uhm… I don’t really know"
He nodded.
If the entirety of the date was going to be this way, it was going to feel painfully awkward.
The walk back to the car was awkward as well even after the many attempts that both of you had at making conversation.
Scaramouche looked as good as ever even though he still didn’t discard of his coat and you were dying to see what was underneath and what kind of outfit he managed to pull together this time.
While in the parking lot, you noticed a few people staring at him and it almost made you feel proud.
"You feeling ok ?" He asked as soon as the car doors closed " you shouldn’t have forced yourself to come if you were feeling bad."
"I’m fine. It’s fine." You sighed "i’m fine."
"The more you say it the less i believe you." He laid his palm against your forehead "well, you don’t feel hot so that’s great." His hand traveled from your forehead to your cheek.
´If you keeps touching you like that, I might start feeling hot.´ you thought but didn’t dare to say out loud.
He looked at your eyes then your lips then your eyes again and you hoped to God he’d just kiss you but instead he took his hand off your face and rested his head back into the car seat headrest.
"So ? Where are we going next ?"
"Uhm…" you checked the time. It was already pushing 8pm "we could go eat."
"Sure that’s fine by me. Where ?"
"I’ll let you pick" you said trying to sound gentlemanly but knowing it was only because you had no idea what to pick and judging by his face, you didn’t fool him.
"We could go to a japanese restaurant."
"Don’t you already eat japanese at home ? It’s a bit boring for you isn’t it ?"
"It’s fine i haven’t had it in a while and i miss it. I’m doing this for me mostly."
You knew he was lying.
"I saw some leftovers when i went over, though ? If you want me to try it just say so." You teased
All he did was hum before starting the car engine."
Unlike what you expected, you weren’t face to face with him but instead sitting next to each other at a sushi bar.
"I haven’t had sushi in forever." You clapped your hands, excited for the huge free meal you were about to get.
"I could eat those forever, i’ll never get tired."
You downed the 4 makis you grabbed on the moving tray as soon as they were in front of you.
Before you could even grab something else, a green plate of three tempura was gently placed on top of the plate you just cleaned.
"Are you trying to shut me up ?"
"How’d you guess ?" He smirked half jokingly. "Try those next"
"If you insist !"
You took a bite out of it but before you could have a second one you suddenly felt like somebody was looking at you.
"What ? Were you planning on eating those or something ?" You didn’t have to stare back at him to know that it was his eyes that were gazing at you.
"No, no."
You took a second bite but almost choked when you felt his cold palm on your cheek.
You pulled away startled and uncomfortable by the sudden cold.
"What’s your deal, dude ?" You said, feeling your face heating up.
"Just checkin’ to see if you felt less warm than earlier."
"You said I didn’t feel warm at all earlier."
He looked away staring down at the plate of sushi he helped himself to previously
"Checking to see if it feel warmer then, i guess."
"God, you’ll be the death of me one day."
"You should take me out more often."
"Just so you can use me and drain my finances ? No way, i’m never doing this again."
You were leaning against the car, trying your best not to cough as the smoke from the cigarette Scaramouche lit made it’s way through your nostrils.
He seemed to noticed, telling you at least five time that if the smell was bothering you, he could open up the car and you could enjoy all the clean air you wanted but you so desperately wanted to stay close to him.
"Do you smoke a lot ?"
Scaramouche brought the cigarette to his lips, nestling it between them before inhale deeply. He brought it back to his side before releasing the breath he was holding, creating a cloud of fog in front of him.
He took so long to answer you thought he didn’t hear
"Not really. Tonight’s just a great night for a smoke." He finally said.
"How so ?"
He turned and glanced at you before looking up to the sky.
"The sun is setting, the sky is a mix of purple and orange, we’re in an empty parking lot talking about trivial stuff, it’s a friday night. It’s great for a smoke."
You giggled "When did you become so poetic ?"
He sat down, back against the driver’s side door and you did the same.
He put his cigarette out on the floor and rested his head on your shoulder.
"Are you tired ?" You asked, trying to stop your voice from cracking
"Yeah. Just a bit. Do you want to go anywhere else ?"
"No, not today."
Silence installed itself, a non awkward one this time. Only the sound of the wind let itself be heard and the few screams and giggles from the skatepark not too far.
"I love you, kuni."
He straightened up instantly
"What ?"
"I think I do ? Have feelings for you, I mean. I’m pretty certain."
"Wait… Huh ??"
You got up before he could even make sense of the situation
"Today was nice. I live not too far so i’ll walk. Thank you for driving me around." If you had the guts you would’ve kissed his forehead
You fled before he even had the chance to speak.
Extras !
• car seat headrest reference
• "erm i don’t like sushi 🤓☝️" WELL TOO BAD 👎👎

i've put the list under the cut, separated by episode! timestamps include ads for eps 1-48, and are from the ad free version for eps 49-100.

I tried to go with the names they're most often known by across this arc and other campaigns but it changes. The big thing here is that the song at 1:07:22 is not called “A Humble Farmer” again, but when it’s used later in c1 it’s credited as “Wooded Wonders”, and then in c2/3 it’s “Fantastic & Fuddling”. However, both of those names are more consistently used for the songs I have them labeled as now. The song at 40:32 is called “Fantastic & Fuddling” throughout the Feywild arc, and the song at 1:45:23 is called “Wooded Wonders” in every campaign except HBS, where it’s “A Humble Farmer” Basically— “Fantastic & Fuddling” means the song at 40:32 and “Wooded Wonders” usually means the song at 1:45:23, but this isn’t always the case, and the song at 1:07:22 may be called either.)
47 - Puzzled, 8:40 47 - Mysterious Yet Familiar, 1:08:07 47 - Queen Cirilla, 1:14:02 47 - Frozen in Time, 1:16:35

51 - Alanis, 3:34 51 - The Nannerfly Effect, 14:35 * 51 - When You Wish Upon A Stone, 20:26 51 - Only the Ocean to Console Him, 45:27 * (note: throughout the Feywild, this song is called “The Nannerfly Effect”, and then later goes on to be credited as various versions of "wish stones")
54 - The Autumn Court, 3:35
55 - The Witch's Den, 58:57
56 - An Innocent Flirtation, 48:02 56 - Goblin Dirigible, 1:04:27 56 - Crash Landing, 1:15:21

Unfortunately due to TOH being cut short by Disney a lot of character arcs and more storyline could not be fully fleshed out and finished as Dana had to wrap up everybody’s story in just a few episodes
I'm fully aware that Disney's intervention is responsible for a lot of the plotlines getting suffocated. Which is why I don't think it's fair to go harassing crew members with "why didn't THIS happen??" and all that, because nobody really knows what they endured working on those final episodes and how much they had to cut and rewrite. But from things Dana has said, it was likely a very stressful and exhausting experience. So I don't like to make assumptions about the crew being incompetent. Nobody knows how the season WOULD have turned out if they had been granted full creative freedom and breathing room to develop it to their hearts content.
However, me not directing personal ire towards the crew doesn't mean that I think that the show is immune to criticism. Its flawed. It might not be entirely the crew's fault but that doesn't mean we can't talk about how it's flawed. If anything, I think acknowledging and dissecting its weaknesses is a good learning opportunity for what we should consider when creating our own stories.
Season 3 is a bit of a mess. There's good stuff. There's some less than good stuff. I think ultimately, as a story about Luz, King and Eda, it knocks it out of the park. When they were left with no other option, they decided to prioritize the writing of their three protagonists and I think that was the correct choice.
But I've been thinking about the three specials and how they stand on their own, quality wise, and honestly, there's valid criticism to be said that is completely unrelated to the shortening.
Bear in mind that the crew has known since Follies that the show was getting cut short and they needed to start wrapping up loose ends. So it's not like they started writing Thanks to Them believing it was the first of 20+ more episodes. They knew that they were going to be writing a 40 minute special. So the execution had to be tight, concise and satisfying, right?
Well...it was....weird. Definitely fun. Good for fan service. The main hook was the witch kids navigating the human world in their dorky witchy way. And initially, that was enough. But once the novelty of that wears off and we focus on the plot of the special, what do we have left?
Thanks to Them is very guilty of lore baiting. Dropping in stuff that they know damn well that they're never going to elaborate on, leaving the audience with a feeling of intrigue that is never going to be satiated.
I personally think that is just bad writing. They knew they didn't have a full season 3 and rather than rewrite the means of which the hexsquads finds answers, they still made the choice to drop in what are most likely vague ideas from the initial draft.
I think, if they had no intention of developing it in future specials, there was no point to that scene of Masha telling the Wittebane story. It was just...filler. To stretch out the running time. Which is....kind of precious. Only 40 minutes. If you're obsessive enough about lore, you already knew the story from the Hollow Mind paintings. That scene was for casual viewers. Which is useless, because there's no point in casual viewers learning about Evelyn and Caleb because it never went anywhere.
Also. I personally think that if there was any value to learning the Wittebane lore without making it plot relevant, it would be for the sake of character development. We wanted to know how the kids would react to this knowledge.
Well how did they react?
*Shrug* They seemed a little unnerved but they kinda forgot about it the second they got off the hayride.
So what was the point of all that? What was the point?
Is it because we wanted "Goodbye, Evelyn," to be more of gut punch?
Was it worth it? Was "Goodbye, Evelyn" worth it? We know fucking nothing about Evelyn.
I think the rebus was a stupid and lazy means for the kids to discover Titan's blood. You introduce this mysterious object that was hidden under the floorboards and then you just use it as a plot device.
When the kids uncover the rebus and find the secret code inside, the viewer is not thinking about how it can be used as a means to an end (finding blood) The viewer is thinking "what the fuck is that thing and how did it get there and how did Flapjack know it was there?"
Questions that will not be answered <333
ALL IM SAYING is that I'm sure the crew could have come up with another way for the kids to have a Titan's blood treasure hunt. Maybe they could have dug a little more into the history of Gravesfield and follow leads on weird things happening on this one spot in the graveyard (which turns out to be because there's magical energy there, revealed when Luz realizes she can use glyphs)
I just think that if you're gonna leave the mystery box a mystery, you shouldn't have included it.
And I know. Its subtle storytelling. There's elements of what could have been a far more complex story and they're leaving hints of it here and there.
Well the thing about that is I think the hints are very unsatisfying and weaken the episode's plot significantly.
Also I don't think they should get to just pick and choose what parts of the lore are subtle and what parts are ham-fisted.
YES we are going to be reminded like three times that Flapjack is being secretive and hiding things from Hunter.
NO we are never going to get a payoff for that because he gets shanked and dies first.
BUT!! BUT!! If you squint, its IMPLIED that Flapjack belonged to Evelyn and blah blah blah
You don't get to rub things in the audience face and then choose to be all subtle about it at the last minute. Pick one or the other.
Anyway....I think they could have written Thanks to Them as more of an intriguing and suspenseful horror mystery where they spend forty minutes gathering clues and everything finally clicks together at the very end. That's not what we got.
We got a very weak attempt on the Hexsquad's part to be little detectives, but like a minute of screen time was devoted to them dicking around in a library, a costume shop, and a zoo.
I don't think we can blame the shortening for this.

Let's Talk About: Burrow's End, Evolution, and Revolution
Tumblr media
Welcome back, Stupendous Stoats--for one last time! And because I have a bunch of stuff that I need to do and I'm just squeezing this in, this Let's Talk About is gonna be a stream of consciousness that I write while I'm watching.
Check it out, check it out, check it out--
The caution tape ribbon on Izzy's head with the very colorful attire is giving Jojo Siwa realness.
Now that we're in the finale, I just want to point out that Aabria went full Ed Sheeran on her outfit in the last five episodes. So I want to ask any amazing artist out there… Please draw Aabria's power plant uniform with Brennan's Dungeons and Drag Queens get-up a la the Beyonce and Sheeran meme.
Siobhan wants to go full Kevin McCallister!
"…and that we should murder Phoebe." It's not a surprise, but the way Brennan said this so intensely calm gave me such whiplash. In a good way. Mommy has so much blood lust.
Is Dr. Tara Steele planning a Happy Feet situation? Filming the talking stoats like those scientists filmed the dancing penguins?
This map is truly beautiful. Truly.
Yes, Viola! Yes, Rashawn!
BRING IN THE NEW MAP!
Are those three Breaking Bad action figures?
"Carlos! What have they done to you?"
"Well this is gonna be much more fun now." AABRIA!!!
You have to kill your babies, Brennan!
"I rolled better than a Nat 1--which is a 2."
"Does a 30 hit?" "What do you think?!" Sad sigh. Perfect.
Why did Brennan make Tula so powerful? Like, in another fight where he isn't fighting his own family, this would be great. But the situation is not that!
"Shoot at me!" "I'll take the shot." "Shit."
"Don't hit it with fire! Don't hit it with water!" Aabria turned into Lucas!
"Lair action." "It's okay." "What?" "You don't have to." That was the best reaction to a DM's shenanigan.
What I want to know right now-- Is Tara's hazmat suit still broken? Because there's a lot of radiation here.
"Are you okay?" "No!!!" This is the most engaging 5e battle in Dimension 20 history outside of A Starstruck Odyssey.
"He'll cook in 40 minutes!"
Aabria has just learned the lesson Brennan had learned from giving Ally Beardsley's shenanigans a chance. If you say yes, the dice gods will give your player a Nat 20.
We did get a Happy Feet ending! This is an amazing ending! I still want a longer Aabria season on Dimension 20 though.
That said--this very lovely epilogue juxtaposed with that horrifying maxi of Phoebe-backer is also a perfect representation of Burrow's End. Although… Wait… Did we get an epilogue for Thorne? I'll have to rewatch this episode at some point. I have to dash now.
Oh, but one last thing: Brennan's "I can't wait to find out what's going to happen tomorrow" hits very differently for me, right now.

characters; post covid stan x fem reader
warnings; dom/sub themes, daddy kink, petnames (sweetpea, baby), no actual written smut, legal but large age gap (reader is early 20s, stan is early 40s), alcohol+smoking, all that yummy stuff xoxo
a/n; what the freaking freak 200 likes on my first post?!?!? u guys r the best love u my little cuties 💋 also pc stan brainrot is taking over smh
Tumblr media
maybe it was the fact you’d had to get up earlier than usual, or because you’d had back-to-back lectures all day, or even the closing shift you’d had to work last minute, but god, you were whiny tonight.
stan didn’t even remember what time it was when you let yourself into his apartment, dropping your backpack on the floor by the door and just collapsing onto the couch next to him. he’d been enjoying his usual nighttime routine; a few glasses of whiskey, one too many beers, a pack of cigs and a little pot, watching reruns of his favourite shows from when he was younger. you called it depressing once, and he agreed, but found too much comfort in pattern to change his ways now.
you lay face-down on the couch, curled into yourself and groaning into the old throw pillows as stan chuckled from above you. “tough day, sweetpea?” his large, rough hand rested gently on your head, thick fingers running through your hair and untangling the knots you’d gathered from the stress of school and work. his tone is teasing so you don’t reply, instead huffing quietly and nodding your head, still stuffed into the couch cushions. stan’s other hand holds a newly-lit cigarette and a half-drank can of cheap beer, and he seems more focused on these than you.
his arm comes to rest on your waist as another episode of ‘terrance and philip’ begins, the intro playing softly while you shuffle closer to stan’s side, immediately comforted by his warmth and size. you rest your head on his thigh and let him watch his show for a little while. the two of you didn’t even have to talk; you both just liked admiring the other sometimes. however as he adjusted in his seat, pulling you up to sit on his lap, your focus switched to the can of beer in his hand.
stan was a heavy drinker. he wasn’t proud of it, but he’d accepted it. you, on the other hand? you’d reached the legal drinking age a few years prior and, although you’d drank before turning 21, it seemed you still hadn’t outgrown that lightweight phase, or your competitive streak. your first time drinking with stan, he’d made a stupid joke about how he could drink you under the table. of course, you tried, but he was right. you’d ended the night with your head in the toilet bowl as he held your hair back, rubbing your back and laughing, stopping a few times to take another sip of jack. after that, he’d been very hesitant to let you drink with him again- mainly because he had to clean up the vomit you left on the bathroom floor while you sat in the doorway, crying and apologising, even after he told you it was fine.
so when he finally noticed your eyes on his drink, he sighed, looking down at you. “what?” you can hear the grin in his deep, raspy voice. if he’s fed up, he’s not showing it. “what, what?” you reply, an innocent smile lining your lips. you knew if you asked for a drink he’d say no, so teasing him until he gave up was your next best option. he scoffs, leaning his head against the back of the couch, shaking it softly. “come on, sweetpea. we both know what you want.” you shift on his lap so you’re straddling him, hands resting on his chest, that innocent smile on your face now sly. “i have no idea what you’re talking about, stanley.” his eyes find yours. he sits up slowly, one hand resting on yours while his other still holds his can.
“don’t get smart with me, kid. you want something, you ask for it.” his tone is stern, but quiet. he watches you intently while you squirm under his gaze, the beginnings of a smirk playing on his lips. you try not to catch his eye as you feel your face turning a soft pink colour. stan found it so easy to humiliate you, to turn you into a blushing mess on his lap with just his words. he had to admit, dating you had given him a pretty big confidence boost. he wasn’t the best looking guy, but from the first time you’d met him, you’d flirted with him like he was. it was almost laughable- a young, pretty thing like you, batting her eyelashes up at a 40-something-year-old with a beer belly and a constantly grumpy personality. it was endearing, to say the least.
your eyes switch back to the can of beer in his hand, but firm, controlling fingers grasp your cheeks, pulling your face back towards stan and away from his drink. his tone is more dominating now, like he’s telling you to be obedient; “use your words, sweetpea. tell daddy what you want.” he watches you through half-lidded eyes, waiting for you to follow his orders.
you rest your head on his chest, still looking up at him. “can i please have a sip?”
he chuckles softly, looking down at you. “see, was that so hard, baby?” you give him a happy grin. you reach out to take the can from him, only for him to hold it out of your reach, tutting. you sit up, pouting at him. “did i say yes?”
you sigh in defeat, groaning when he brings the can to his lips and takes a long gulp, humming softly in satisfaction as he swallows. “god, that’s good. could you get daddy another beer, sweetpea?” he looks at you with a knowing grin on his face. you roll your eyes but hop off of his lap, making a point to trudge to the kitchen unhappily, hearing him chuckle to himself from the living room. you could easily take a swig of this new can before you give it to him, but decide against it. you weren’t in the mood for a punishment tonight.
you pass him the unopened drink, sulkily sitting next to him as he mutters ‘that’s my girl’, taking the can and cracking it open. you keep your eyes on the television, arms crossed and an exaggerated pout on your face. stan looks down at you, laughing lightly at how petty you’re being, then rests his arm around your shoulders, trying to pull you close to him. stubborn as ever, you stay sat up firmly. you hear him sigh from above you, then take a sip from his can, before it’s directly in front of you. he nudges you gently, gesturing for you to have some. you look up at him quickly, grinning, happy he’s finally given in. before you can reach for it, he pulls it back slightly.
“what d’you say?” he waits for you to reply, holding the drink tight as your hands wrap around the can, on top of his. you give him your best puppy-dog eyes. “thank you, daddy.” pressing a quick kiss on his cheek as he chuckles, his grip on the drink finally releases and you take a long gulp. he pulls you back into his lap as you relax into him, his hand immediately finding its way back to your hair, fingers brushing through slowly as you curl up into him.

✰ KDRAMA CHARACTERS ID MAKE UP TO GIVE TO TXT MEMBERS IN TRUE BEAUTY! even though ive never watched the kdrama and hate the webtoon with every inch of my being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖥻 ִ ۫ ּ ﹗🩰 true beauty fans feel free to send me hate but you won't change my opinion.
Tumblr media
YEONJUN: main character's savior aka the cameo 'almost' secondary second lead that appears mid-way into the drama after the main characters have always already confessed to each other and the second male lead has been casted aside BUT right now the main leads are having problems so in comes: choi yeonjun! for like either two episodes or two scenes, nothing in between.
probably someone huge in the industry who meets the main character in some make up room, while saving them from the other bully make up artist. shows too much interest despite not giving any attention but they are like, " who is she who does not give a fuck about me?" but with a nice guy smirk while showing off side profile and his nose bridge.
BOTTOM LINE, does not get the girl but ends in a good note where he is shown giving a shy smile in the camera and leaving probably definitely) gets casted as a male lead almost immediately after the show finished airing.
SOOBIN: is like those lowly assistant pd in the show where the main characters works as a makeup artist. sees the main character crying under the stairs, contemplates whether he should go or not to console but then he gets yelled at to get his ass moving. even ends up forgetting he saw any girl crying or whatever his life is already as hard as it is.
ALSO wears very thick black glasses, like the ones he does irl.
Is shown shamelessly clapping at the end of the drama when the main character accepts herself as if he did not just ignore the poor girl when she was crying all alone.
BEOMGYU: main character's useless, and very annoying date to a double date that main character gets roped in while she's at school. absolutely nuisance, can't sit properly in his chair, talks smack about the main character to her face because he's an insensitive teenage boy who wants the world to work on his whim. makes remarks like he can play "connect the dot" on her face with the acne while sipping loudly and obnoxiously from his straw.
EXCLUSIVELY wears a hoodie over his school uniform and has the most punchable face, we see him again when the main character becomes "hot" but he doesn't remember going with her on a date and tries to flirt and get her number. doesn't get the hint when he's turned down.
GETS punched at least once before his screen time in the show ends.
TAEHYUN: that one character we don't really think is important until the end of the series but he is still not important because he gets no lines.
WORKS in that comic shop where the main characters met up and they extensively, and LOUDLY discussed their secrets. like if he wanted he could have ended the entire series in 20 minutes.
BRO has all the gossip but we only see his scenes, those camera shots between the bookshelves or on top of ladders cleaning the store.
KINDA gets a fan following after the series ends. #WeNeedToHearHisVoice!
HUENING KAI: that one token wasian character in the industry that is introduced to have never stood foot in south korea but speaks english with like 40 layers of korean accent lathered on.
BECOMES bestie with the main character and posts cringe selfies on his Instagram. literally kick-starts the main character's career from his mouth of word and star power.
LIKE this man does more for the main character than what the main lead and second lead has done for the poor girl also gets paired up with one of the main character's best friends by the end of the series, but its only initiated. *wink* *wink*

When the World Went to Shit (Chapter 1)
Tumblr media
Joel Miller x FEM! Reader
A/N: this is a SPOILER WARNING, this contains spoliers from the first episode (and more to come). Also I did NOT bother editing, so if there are a few mistakes my bad.
WARNINGS: Canon level of violence, swears, reader is ready to fight a goddamn child, Joel is sad, talks of grief, PTSD, brief mentions of gore, Eventual Smut, pining (on both ends), grumpy idiots in love, reader is in her late 30's to early to mid 40's.
Summary: 20 years later after the world went to shit you, Joel, and Tess have to take 14 year old Ellie to the Firefly base outside of Boston QZ. What was supposed to be a simple plan turned into something much more complicated.
**************************************************
You were visiting your family and friends in Texas when everything went to shit. One minute you were on your way to a movie with your mom and the next you were driving frantically to Travis County with your mom, and your old friend Tommy (who you hadn’t seen in years) and his brother Joel and Joel’s daughter Sarah. Your car had overturned at some point, your mother and Tommy on one side and you, Joel, and Sarah on the other. You had agreed to meet at the lake, you tried to ignore the fires and screams of people around you and focused on surviving. But the pleas of help and the inhuman clicking etched itself into your brain, you could transport yourself there if you closed your eyes long enough. You could feel the heat from the various fires as you passed them, the metallic stench of blood permeating the air and turning your stomach sour, you could feel the burning in your lungs as you ran from the infected person as it chased you animalistically. You could still feel the hope you had as you looked at the soldier crumble as he fired at you and the sharp stab of grief that almost consumed you as you watched Joel mourn Sarah and as Tommy told you that your mother didn’t make it.
You took in a sharp breath when you woke up, the morning light burnt your eyes until you closed them again. Your back ached from the outdated springs on the old bed. You felt like you had been run over by a bus quite honestly, and despite what you had assumed to be a decent amount of rest, there was a tiredness deep in your bones that had settled there for the past 20 years. Begrudgingly you sat up, a low groan escaping you as you stretched, your bones popping and cracking throughout your body like some sick symphony.
You slowly open your eyes as they adjust to the dull brightness that day provided and look around the unit that the Boston QZ provided you and your roommate Tess, though you guess she’s more like a ghost nowadays since she spent most nights with Joel.
Joel.
You, Joel, and Tommy arrived at the Boston QZ together, during what you would easily call the worst few years of your life. During which time both you and Joel bonded over your loss. With every year you got better at handling your loss, and started to move on. You were a nurse before everything had ended, so you helped out where you could medically and on the side you accepted some other jobs. You helped smuggle a few things here and there, even sent some reliable customers Joel and Tess’s way. You used to just shoot the shit with Tommy, talking about what the world was like before it ended. But that was before he went ahead and joined those goddamn Firefly’s. When you found out you were so mad you could’ve screamed and hit him, but you left that to Joel instead. You admired the way Tommy still held onto hope, despite all that he’s seen and went through, but joining the Firefly’s was going against FEDRA, and going against FEDRA never went well.
You were so lost in thought that it wasn’t until you heard a silent ‘shit’ coming from the kitchen and the sound of glass shattering across the floor that you realized you weren’t alone. Instinctively you reached for your gun, You were often alone in the unit and just because the world went to shit didn’t mean things didn’t happen. It wouldn’t be the first time you’ve had to defend yourself in your unit. You walked silently as you walked toward the kitchenette, gun raised and your thumb hovering over the safety. It wasn’t until you saw the familiar long light brown hair that you lowered your gun.
“Fuck Tess,” You cussed as you took a deep breathe attempting to calm the nerves you had gotten, “I thought you were-what the fuck happened to you?” You asked as she turned around, one half of her face was swollen and littered with scars, her clothes had droplets of dried blood dotted across. Not enough to notice from afar, but up close you could spot a large droplet or two. You rushed over to her where you motioned her to sit on the rickety chair next to the table. The floorboards creaked as you walked over to the floorboards in front of your radio. Uncovering it to reveal one dusty bottle of rum and a first aid kit filled with things you had snuck out of the clinic over the years. Tess was silent as you set the first aid kit and the rum on the table before grabbing two mismatching glasses filling up both, before passing one to her. She downed hers as you poured yourself one and dabbed a bit on a piece of clean cloth.
You dabbed the cloth onto her cuts and bruises before applying just the smallest amount of antibacterial onto your fingers and just dabbing it on the deeper cuts. Once you had put the antibacterial back in the first aid and the cloth was set aside, you downed the rest of whatever you had poured on your glass.
“So,” you broke the silence, “gonna tell me what happened or am I going to have to ask Joel?” You see Tess take a deep breath before sighing, pouring herself another glass and taking a swig of it before responding.
“It was Robert,” She revealed, “I found out he was going to fuck us over with the car battery,” your nails dug into the palms of your hands. You never did like Robert, based on his personality you assumed no one else did either, “So I got jumped by a few of the teenagers in his rank and next thing you know I’m tied to a goddamn chair and he’s pacing around paranoid about Joel.”
“I would too,” you interjected, Joel had become increasingly violent over the years, earning himself a fearsome reputation. And while you would never admit it, you were both scared and intrigued about what his rage could do. What he was willing to do while in that state. You took another sip of the rum, hoping the liquor would hide that particular thought away. Forcing it down with the rest of your more complex emotions.
“Yeah, well if it weren’t for the Firefly’s I would probably either still be in that chair or dead by now. They blasted through the damned wall and a full blown shootout ensued. I tried to leave but FEDRA caught me, thinking I was Firefly. When they let me go after some intense interrogation I came here and you wanna know what really just fucks me off,” You nodded, “Robert fucking weasled his way out, fucking scot free.”
“FEDRA didn’t catch Robert, but they caught you?” You asked, when she nodded you rolled your eyes in annoyance. Of course FEDRA would focus more on capturing a (at the time) defenseless woman and feeding their ego by reinforcing their superiority before actually capturing someone guilty of something. You finish off your glass before setting it back down on the table.
“Well,” you started, “did they hurt you anywhere else? Any cuts or bruises that need tending to before I put this shit away?”
“Are you asking for a strip tease Doc?” Tess teased as she sent you a wink, you rolled your eyes before closing your kit and the bottle to the rum before grabbing it.
“You wish, Detroit.” You winked back as you placed the kit and bottle back to its place beneath the floorboard next to the radio. You looked at it for a second, thinking briefly that you hadn’t heard from Bill and Frank a while and hoped that they were doing fine. Maybe you would stay longer than you did last time, Bill was getting older and Frank’s condition was worsening. They could use the extra help, but you were sure Bill would refuse, just like last time.
You turned back to Tess who was still sitting at the kitchen table.
“Tess,” You put one hand on your hip as you leaned against the wall, “we’ve got to tell Joel.”
“I know,” She sighed, “he’s not going to like it.”
“He’s most likely going to fly off the handle, yes.” you agree, “but still, Robert’s not going to get away with holding you captive and fucking you two over.” You grab your shoes, pull them on and lacing them before making your way to the front door. You opened the door for Tess and locked the door behind you.
///////////
“Joel.”
“Yeah.”
“Who the fuck is this?” you ask, motioning towards the petite 14 year old brunette staring out the
window. After informing Joel on what happened you left for your shift in the clinic, after the shift ended and you saw the sun was about to set, you rushed home to grab your first aid kit and stuffed it discreetly in your bag and made your way back to Joel’s where you were sure him and Tess would be there ready to be patched up. Instead what you found was Joel lying on the couch and an unfamiliar girl staring out the window with a far off look in her dark eyes.
“The Queen of England,” The girl sarcastically replied, “and who are you, off brand GI Jane?”
“Can you even point to England on a map, aren't you like five?”
“I’m 14”
“Tell that to your height.”
“Alright,” Joel groaned, getting up from the coach rubbing his eyes slightly before getting up fully, “enough.” you kept eye contact with the girl as Joel makes his way to you, a calloused hand on your shoulder. “At ease Doc, this is Ellie, we’re taking her to the Firefly base outside of the QZ.” You missed the warmth of his hand as soon as it was removed.
“By us do you mean-”
“We’re going to need you Doc,” Joel said gruffly, almost like he didn’t want to say it, “if we give Ellie to them with so much as a scratch on her the deal's off.” You walked over to where he was by the sink, leaning close to talk quietly.
“What deal?” You asked, eyes searching his dark ones, they shone with a tiredness you’re sure yours portrayed as well.
“We take her there, and they give us what we need.”
“A car battery.”
“And weapons,” Joel added, you had to admit weapons and a car battery that worked sounded nice. But
you looked over to where Ellie sat, fiddling with the book in her lap.
“Why?” you asked, eyes still trained on her, not seeing how his eyes lingered on you for longer than they should, “Why go through all this trouble? Who is she?”
“I’m thinking she’s some higher ups daughter,” he explained, “they didn’t give us a clear answer on that.” Despite your suspicions you decided to leave it for now. You continued to watch her for a second. It was strange to think that Ellie and kids her age would never know what the world was. Sometimes you liked to wonder what kids her age would’ve been like had this life not been forced upon them. But you would shake those thoughts away, it was useless wondering what could’ve been when you needed to survive.
You walked over to her, sitting cautiously beside her.
“So,” you started, “You’re Ellie.”
“Yeah,” she responded, looking at you cautiously. You couldn’t blame her, so young and affiliated with the Firefly’s already, You don’t know what kind of people she’s been exposed to.
“It’s a cool name,” you said, extending a hand, “people call me Doc.” Warily she accepts it.
“Like Doctor?” Ellie asks.
“Yeah.”
“Are you a doctor?”
“Closest thing to one at the moment,” you said removing her hand from your own, you see her tugging at her sleeve but pay it no mind.
Tess entered not long after, it was time. And so far everything had gone smoothly, well, as smoothly as it possibly could be with Ellie being distracted over the outside world a few times, almost getting caught in the process. Until you eventually got caught. Even through the blur of the flashlight you could feel Joel tense, you wanted to reach out to him and calm him down. For a minute though before the soldier had you on your knees with your hands behind your head, you were sure he was going to let you go. He was testing you all, ‘doing this by the book’, he said. The uncomfortable tingling of the handheld device was over nearly as it began, you were clean.
Then came Ellie.
As soon as he touched her neck she stabbed him with a knife you didn’t notice she had before. That’s when all hell broke loose, you don’t know what did it for Joel, if it was the flashlight or the fact that this officer was going to shoot a little girl, but you saw Joel break. Without caring about getting shot he disarmed the soldier, but he didn’t stop there. You’ve seen him get violent a few occasions before, but this, this was something he was holding back. He kept pounding on him, blood decorating the stones, he would’ve kept going had you not pulled him off of him. You held onto Joel, riding out this PTSD driven rage, coaching his breathing. Until finally he ceased, you let go and distanced yourself from him before seeing Tess. The handheld device in her hand as her eyes widened.
“GUYS!” She shouts, showing the screen on the device, a bright shining red.
Fuck

Turning poison into positivity
Now that I had time to process the last episode of season 2 of OFMD, took out my anger and frustration out on few dick-ish customers at work (they deserved it!), took on vaping in the span of one day (not very good for my health but that's just life). I can finally focus on the show itself and what I did love about it.
I loved it as a whole because we finally got what we fans yearned for for years sometimes, I know I have. Love between two characters without judgement of the outside, where their journey is not too colorized but painted in various color of life - like heartbreak, hurt, love, anger, sadness, hope, excitement and so on.
We finally got many characters we can relate to without fear of being told we see too much into something. What we see is what we get (most of the time but let's not let poison back in)
I enjoyed Roach this season, he was more sure of himself, tried to take command of the Blackbeards crew, be their balast so to speak.
Archie is very nice addition, I liked her character, she's a bit like me, doesn't hide from a fight and can kick ass when needs to but can be soft when needs too. What I missed this season is where and when they picked her up. Hopefully when Season 3 happens we will get that information and a bit more of her backstory
Zheng, well I don't know what to think of her, her character is okay, too short of a season to really pass out judgement. I neither loved her nor hated her. She was just there.
Absolutely fell in love with Wee John this season and his seagoddess Calypso! You can't not fall in love with him for that!
Stede and Ed both went through a journey. Stede of course from a child to a young adult and Ed from angry hurt man, to finding peace of mind, at least some form of a peace. He learned thanks to Fang how to center himself, how to quiet himself which in turn will help him keep his more negative emotions at bay.
The season as a whole was very good alas a bit too short but what can we do on cut budget right? If only I had million to spare I'd gladly pay for the next season myself and get 20+ 40 minutes episodes
What are my hopes for the next season?
Well, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts I'd love for Mary, Doug and the kids to come back and meet Ed and the rest of the crew.
Now that we know that the weasel of a prince is out there, I hope the Revenge crew alongside Stede and Ed will hunt him down and serve justice to him for what he did to Izzy. Hopefully it's going to be a theme for the next season - the REVENGE.
As to anything else...
a dance between Stede and Ed, we need to see that and since THAT LOOK of Ed's toward Stede at Lucius and Pete wedding, I can safely bet we would get a wedding dance between these two - if we are lucky
no more death
Izzy coming back
Stede and Ed taking on a responsibility for another person - a child. Just like Ed was somehow taken care of by pirates after running away after killing his father it would be interesting to see his take on someone young and in need with Stede helping him. Let's not forget Stede has some experience in taking care of for children
Stede and Ed renovating that shack into an Inn. I'd love to see some of the process, even as a montage
the Revenge crew visiting them on their island, getting them supplies, having parties etc
THE TALK - I need them to talk through their emotions, their grief
This is more like a speculation but I'd not be surprised if Ricky the dick went after Stede's family as a Revenge. Which paints a interesting plot IMHO
That is for now. I may or may not add something later, you will know if you find the word EDIT somewhere below in the future.

sxtrlia’s guide to writing a fic
1. Obsess over this idea for at least a week
Got that important paper due for English the next day? Forget it. Your life depends on this random daydream you had in class right now and you have to talk about it over and over with your friend to the point that you’re both getting sick of hearing you giggle about a dying ship from an old fandom.
2. Spend money on another notebook you definitely don’t need
You’ve got like, 50 of em at home that you haven’t even written in yet. Doesn’t matter. This new precious fic deserves a clean, sexy notebook with a glossy finish and gorgeous graphic art on the cover of it. It’s also an excuse to drive 20 minutes to the nearest Walmart.
3. Binge watch show/movie and browse pics of ship while plotting
You actually need to get some outlining done if you want to be committed to this fic. But scrolling on pinterest for an hour and rewatching an episode that you’ve definitely seen a million times before is too important right now. Meh, I’ll outline later.
4. It’s now later and all you have is “The” on your paper
Meh, time to watch some degrassi
5. You watch your grades slip but OMG IM ACC GETTING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS???
You’re sweating like you’ve never sweat before, your hand is cramping like crazy, and you currently have a 40 in a class bc you didn’t turn in that important project that was worth half of your grade. IT DOESNT MATTER THO BC YOU JUST THOUGHT OF THIS PERFECT PLOT POINT AND OMG YOURE DANCING AROUND THE ROOM BC OF HOW PERFECT EVERYTHING IS TYING TOGETHER!!
6. You upload the story
Now you’ve lost motivation.

Here's what is revealed about Nant in episode 4 (Updated version)
I know some people don't like Playboyy but have become invested in finding out what happened to Nant, so I will keep you updated.
If you want to watch the scenes, here's the (not very exact) timestamps: minute 22:00 - 28:00; 35:00 - 37:00 (that's just a kissing scene); 43:00 - 44:40; 52:10 - 54:20 (the scene doesn't end there but it becomes about Zouey and Teena). Updated to include scenes with Phop and Nuthyim91 Timestamps: 00:55 - 06:21 (sex scene); 32:54 -35:00; 37:28 - 39:30; 58:22 - 58:45
Remember Phop from last episode? He's a sex worker, too (both online and offline) and uses the same website as Nant did. One of Phop's customers is Nuthyim91.
Nuthyim91 has spent quite a lot of money on Phop, he even bought him a new laptop so that Phop can go live again. Nuth also pays to have a private call with Phop. During the call, Phop then blocks him before Nuth can finish.
Nuth just makes a new account so that he can contact Phop again (yikes). He wants Phop to shoot a video with him and transfers 10.000 baht in advance. Phop agrees to the job and they meet up.
We see that Nuth's location is close to Phop's dorm, which we know is close to the Playboyy Lounge.
Nuth is super broke and it seems that he has a bit of a spending problem. Nuth calls somebody to borrow money and then offers to "sell the stuff", most likely referring to drugs because later Nuth offers drugs to Phop in place of money.
And here's the original summary of scenes with Nont
It turns out that Nant had a BDSM contract with Prom. Prom also says that they never used knives (it's in the contract, according to him). Prom get's suspicious that Nont doesn't know about the contract and Nont ends up revealing to him that he is Nant's twin brother.
According to Prom, Nant was addicted to drugs, which is why he needed money and why he agreed to that contract with Prom.
Prom also tells Nont hat he saw Nant with Teena, Jump and Soong. he saw them doing drugs together and speculates that one of them sold drugs to Nant.
Nont then goes to see Teena. Teena doesn't react surprised or shocked, so Nont concludes that Teena doesn't have anything to do with Nant's disappearance.
Nont still wants to get information from Teena and decides to use his go-to-method of seducing a guy and then just bluntly asking him quetions that Nant should absolutely know the answers to. Surprisingly, it works.
Teena tells Nont that Soong found Nant completely wasted one night and took him back to his apartment, which is how Nant met the Playboyy guys.
Zouey is hurt because Nont hooked up with Teena. Nont ends up telling the boys that he isn't Nant. The episode ends with Nont sitting outside of their house, very sad and alone.
So, that's what happened. I think at this point we know enough to come up with some decent theories. What do you think happened to Nant? Who do you think is involved in his disappearance? Who is the most suspect character at the moment?

i am rewatching episode 1 for rewind the tape :) I've seen the pilot probably around 20 times at this point but I've only watched it by myself.... once! so for the first time since my first time watching it alone, im gonna do it again with a head full of knowledge of the iwtv book and the full season. and im turning off captions so it's less reading and more watching and close observing for me >:D
Below is a liveblog!
WARNING: I FUCKING LOVE TO TALK AND POINT OUT USELESS THINGS ON EVERY SINGLE THING I SEE. THIS POST IS GOING TO BE A MILE LONG. Also im still not great at putting my thoughts together.
hmm. I would read molloys book on kaposi sarcoma and hiv/aids. i love how well the fake book covers and this advert are put together because so many times I've been asked by friends who i showed the show to if it was an actual commercial LOL.
THE PIC ON THE BACK OF THE BOOK GOING FROM LUKE TO JUST AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF YOUNG ERIC BOGOSIAN? LMFAO. The casting is genuinely so perfect in this show. hehe i like how well the passage of time is depicted through the book covers too, not just in. the photos for daniel obviously but for the aesthetic styles of the covers. the cover they made for "the internets gavel" is sooo mid 2000s. I love the attention to detail for these things on screen for less than a second because it gives a fool like me something to look at and praise simply because the detail wasn't overlooked.
"hate and ashbury" man this is such a good title too. simply because im looking at it and sifting out details it's such a good way to get even more insight into molloy's character. while I don't need to get into a history lecture of haight-ashbury, it tells a lot because it was a historically hippie neighborhood in the 1960s and the birthplace of the counterculture movement, it says a lot for molloy especially seeing the previous three fictional books he wrote about, being hiv/aids crisis, the politics of climate change in the United states, the governments attempts at putting stricter regulation on the internet... I could get into how this connects with molloy's character more in relation to his desire for vampirism but i am barely over a minute in and I've been typing for 15 minutes now!!!
"Preparing For An Interview" NO WAY. GUYS!
No no no i will not pause every 10 seconds and try to connect the thematic dots of everything being presented to me. I need to save that for the video essay im writing!
louis' beautiful handwriting❤️
i dont know why daniels scrunched up face is so fucking funny to me.
Jesus okay watching this without captions is actually really difficult for me i see why i need them all at all times. If im not rewinding because i keep fucking pausing im rewinding because I didn't understand a fucking word i just heard. Despite seeing the episode 20 times.
Hmm.. What personally redemptive accomplishments could louis be referring to..?
UUGGGHHHHHHJJJJJJJJHHHHHHHHHHHHHFHHHH sorry Louis on screen and i started tearing up. Hello armand goodbye armand.
Yah.
Do you think louis goes on twitter sometimes.
Yah?
COVID MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COVID MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!
Louis has changed... The only big change he's mentioned between Interview 1 and now that I can recall off the top of my head is that he stopped killing in 2000. I wonder why? I wonder many things
Truth and reconciliation....
Armand being concerned with daniels editor seeing/hearing what was said. I am vaguely aware of the theory that armand has possibly been up to mindfuckery with both louis and Daniel and i can only wonder if this has been mentioned to buoy that theory. To control the narrative.? Hmm... but why?
I know Daniel was annoyed by louis calling him "boy" but i think it's kind of cute. Even with nearly 50 years passing by, the old human is still young to the vampire who has lived going on twice his lifetimes. I am not 10 minutes in and I have been typing for 40 minutes!
FUUUUUUCK sorry. louis
I have no commentary on louis introducing. LESTAT. sorry, not him. On louis introducing new orleans and his the place he inhabited in it. I think its pretty self explanatory and explicit, yeah?
BRICKS❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh my god the fucking "Oh—goddamn." upon seeing fenwicks diarrhea dick is Ao fucking funny. Louis acting like he would actually have a problem seein a dick or too. Probably would have a problem seeing fenwicks tho (unshitted on). I don't disagree there. Maybe the poop camo is for the best....
Yiu can't be saying that racist jake the dog
Id stick my finger in fenwicks wound and see how deep itd go.
Hi paul
The lord told me to cum. Sorry im 5 years old
Paul punching louis is genuinely so fucking. LESTAT AND HIS FUCKING GOOFY ASS HAT OH MY GOD!!. Sorry. Paul punching Louis was so fucking funny to me because I know that if they were not on that street and were at home or something they would be SLUGGING each other until grace has to pull them apart. Then hug it out :) Idk is this how siblings work im pretty much an only child
I keep having to google words help. HELP. NOT ME HAVING LOOKED UP "PULPIT" ALREADY AND APPARENTLY COMPLETELY FORGETTING WHAT IT MEANS.
Immediately another word I have to google. Im not gonna say I'm stupid for not knowing these words, i did not grow up with the church as closely as others...
i do think a lot about the pointe du lac household before their father died. like. A lot. Theres so much in that brief interaction mentioning him. The sugar cane, the hospital, the Diversion.
Ill never forget the first time i rewatched this ep After learning about the mayfair witches and seeing this scene and being like: GASP! OH MY GOD! ANNE RICE REFERENCE! IT'S ALL CONNECTED!
Paul is so fucking funny like the shade he's constantly throwing, please take a break LMFAO
hng. (louis)
Googling words again. Hmmm the internalized homophobia yes yes i see. Sorry need to google another fucking word. Oh. oh louis...... Ok I can see how my mom picked up on louis being gay so fast. I am a smart boy but my vocabulary is pathetically limited so "big" words going over my head made what should've been pretty obvious be absolutely indecipherable to me. Sorry for being stupid (im not)
I am 17 minutes in and I have been watching and typing for an hour!
Louis: everyone in here is white so its easy to pick out who's gonna call me a nigger to my face and whos gonna do it behind my back
Sir..... Mister....
Hes here
Microaggression 1
TWO.
THREE.
FOUR?
LESTAT CONTINUOUSLY HITTING ME OVER THE HEAD WITH BRICKS
His hair looks like shit
IM. GOING TO KILL HIM. Dont worry louis get behind me.
YOU GONNA FALL VICTIM TO THIS MAN WHOSE HAIR GOT CAUGHT UNDER THE IRON?
Oh my god Leswirl de lioncourt PLEASE PLEASE I CANT TAKE THIS. Actually started growling out loud and said "Shut rhr fuck up, oh mt God.!!!"
IVE EMPTIED A BANK VAULT SAMPLING. S. AJSHKSKSJZMSMS PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP OH MY GKD. PLEASW. ISNSSMJAKSNSMSJAJZMSUAUBZNZ
Lestat put your ears away, please.
Me, watching this for the first time at the age of 20: Is this gay...? No... it can't be. They would put gay in a show...? For real? (in denial and scared of being queerbaited despite the most explicit homosexual overtext)
MISS CARROLL THEYRE HAVING A DICK MEASURING COMPETITION.!!!!!!!
Unfortunately lestat did kind of serve there but throwing his dick down on the table embarrassing louis like that in front of miss carroll and lily was evil and racist somehow And he should be sentenced to 40 good slams in thr head with a brick
If paul didn't punch louis none of this would be happening
Lestat: God i love to troll
Who the devil you say.? Well...
Oh lord louis' face card sorry didn't mean to moan like that. I saw a maj so beautiful I threw up evrrywhere
Hmm. The racism
FUUUUUUCK LOUIS IS SO CUTE I NEED TO KILL MYSELF!
Lestat needs to put his ears AWAY he looks so bad with his hair that short.
What IS this insane time freezing trick lestat is doing? God when im actually giving myself a chance to really absorb myself in the show that scene is actually pretty fucking scary LOL
I NEED TO DIE I HATE HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SHIOT ME IN THE FUCKING HEADA
Lord have mercy the sheer SEX in his eyes as he looks at louis' neck. I nedd to die
Paul..... I need to kill myself for emotional reasons not related to loustat
Egypt reference! Wow! Gabrielle allusion ! "The means to make my way to paris" Ok well what if i
I FEEL SO FUCKING BAD AT HOW HARD I LAUGH AT PAULS SCENES. steven norfleet does such an amazing job in this role.
SAVAGE GARDEN!!!!!!! GUYS!!!!! B
Hooray! The scene that changed me literally Forever. Whatever, man.
Ykung violinist
lily and lestat circling louis like two lions descending on a zebra.
I had a dream about this scene once. I will not br elaborating.
Dude.
GUYS. SEX IS SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!
Guys.
God thid is so fucking crazy
Unfortunately this part does make me giggle especially having to see these two men floating naked and seeing sams fat ass Im about to start crying again
I wish vampires were real
Insert joe biden yelling faggot I don't have it on hand and i don't want to pause for 20 minutes to find it
MY FAVORITE SCENE EVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PAUL AND LOUIS TAPDSNCING SO CUTE AARRRGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! The fact that thus scenr eas really all them, being jacob and steven, its so awesome.
WHEN THE BLACK JOY! And then thr Black suffering. Ok guys 21st time is a charm Im praying really hard I THINK I CAN STOP PAUL FROM JUMPING THIS TIME!
This is one of those scenes that really seperates black viewers from nonblack viewers because the way some of my nonblack friends have reacted to florence blaming louis has made me so insanely embarrassed.... I don't know how to explain it. But the shame from a black parent... especially the mother. I don't know. It breaks you in a different way than anything else. Theres a lot of nuance I want to say but I don't have the time or brainpower or expertise to word it properly so please just take my emotional response to this scene at face value.
sorry but lestat just openly asking during the funeral service where they got pauls coffin from is CRAZY.
Breaking finns arm was also crazy as fuck. Like would hs have done that if louis didn't get angry as fuck at him just then. Unfortunately knowing lestats character now seeing louis get mad like that probably made him hard as fuck and thr only way he can deal with it in the moment is to break that mans arm. Sorry I love how ar the beginning of this post i was like super into the nitty gritty and the details bjt then it just turned into me making fun of lestat and how hard he definitely was in like every single scene he was in
God. the pain.
Killing lily was in fact extremely racist and misogynistic of lestat. He should be stabbed many times for this
God.
Ok scene two that permanently changed me
Sorry to that poor stunt double that got knocked out then.
What rage you must feel as you choke on your sorrow. Unfortunately one of the hardest lines ever
No commentary. Hard to say things about this scene cause its just so good, man.
Oh my poor ashy grey blood deprived louis
Watching this scene with headphones on is crazy
GOD. GUYS. I LOVE SHOW. DID YOU GUYS KNOW I FUCKING LOVE SHOW???!!?? Pack it up guys This is one of the best pilots in tv history
To wrap up this post, it took me about 2 hours and 20 minutes to finish the first episode. I spent twice as long watching it BECAUSE I LOVE TO FUCKING YAP!

as my beloved friend @theosrose said yesterday when we were talking, the sheer lack of any scenes between stede and ed this season makes it feel very strange, and since i've got nothing better to do today, i've decided to compare the amount of screen-time stede and ed share in season 1 vs season 2*
* i mean scenes in which they are alone, or in company but the focus is only on them (like the restaurant scene)
season one:
ep3: their first meeting (25:17-25:38). total: 21 seconds
ep4: opening (02:22-02:42), "who's this mary then?" (09:51-10:48), stede wakes up (13:41-14:31), aux wardrobe (14:57-16:56), "do you wanna do something weird?" (18:36-21:11), "we need to be a lighthouse" (26:51-27:38), ending (29:43-31:10). total: 535 seconds
ep5: books looting (01:32-01:49), dining lessons (02:26-04:18), going to the party (04:51-05:21) (i cut it right when frenchie enters), entering the party (09:10-09:48), ed playing the piano (15:29-15:57), stede telling ed to stand down (20:31-21:04), passive aggression (25:17-25:36), moonlight (26:11-27:12). total: 337 seconds
ep6: opening (00:11-02:30), ed almost kills stede (15:46-16:00, 16:16-16:25, 16:49-16:55), bathroom scene (18:00-20:44). total: 332 seconds
ep7: opening (00:10-01:10), treasure map (05:11-05:56), the moth (10:45-11:12), restaurant scene (12:00-13:30), after lucius calls ed out (17:35-18:40), co-captains (24:29-25:07). total: 325 seconds
ep8: "i mean in hindsight i probably could've guessed" (11:22-48), nature walk (12:40-12:52), the beach talk (16:43-17:28), ed leaves (22:18-22:52), foot nudge (33:07-33:35). total: 145 seconds
ep9: ed shaves off his beard (13:33-15:27), the kiss (16:44-19:58), last conversation (21:02-21:35). total: 341 seconds
interesting note: although stede and ed share the last amount of scenes in ep9 (only 3), the total amount of time spent together is the second longest in the entire season. also, the kiss scene is the longest scene in s1.
TOTAL NUMBER OF SCENES: 35
TOTAL NUMBER OF TIME: 2036 seconds, or 33.93 minutes
the total runtime of s1 is 5 hours 6 minutes 45 seconds, or 306.75 minutes. 33.93 out of 306.75 in percentage is 11.06%
season two:
ep1: opening (01:12-02:17). total: 65 seconds
ep3: reunion (27:43-29:44). total: 121 seconds
ep4: opening (00:00-00:28), "you're not a mermaid" (03:17-03:35), "i like your beard" (10:09-10:46), "i love everything about you" (17:23-19:43), stede inviting ed back to the ship (24:00-24:53), "buttons turned into a seagull!" (26:40-27:02). total: 298 seconds
ep5: "i'm your captain" (03:22-04:50), moonlight kiss (25:20-27:44). total: 224 seconds
ep6: guilt room (03:01-03:22), poison into positivity (04:53-05:47), don't be pirates, kids (07:47-08:17), the almost dance (11:38-11:54), the love scene (22:10-22:27, 22:43-22:50, 23:25-23:32). total: 152 seconds
ep7: the morning after (01:02-02:18), dining and dashing (04:19-05:57), ed giving stede a lesson in being famous (06:03-06:43), ed leaving (11:59-13:51). total: 326 seconds
TOTAL NUMBER OF SCENES: 21
TOTAL NUMBER OF TIME: 1186 seconds, or 19.76 minutes
the total runtime of s2 (minus the finale) is 3 hours 16 minutes and 2 seconds, or 196.033 minutes. 19.76 out of 196.033 in percentage is 10.07%
CONCLUSION:
while the amount of screen time in percentage is similar between the seasons, s2 has significantly fewer scenes with stede and ed. additionally, the time they spend together per episode in s1 is much longer than in s2, and the scenes are stretched out throughout the episodes evenly. even during s1ep8, in which they share the least amount of screen time due to being separated, stede and ed still share 5 scenes, unlike s2ep5 which separates them for the longest amount of time (20 minutes!)
so far in s2, stede and ed share way less scenes than in s1, and when they do, they are shorter and often oddly spaced. for me, the best laid out episode is episode 4, while the worst is episode 5. interestingly, they share the least amount of screen time (after ed wakes up) in ep6, despite having the love scene in it. in my opinion, most of their scenes in s2 feel less earnest than in s1, and are so short i can barely savor them. this is ultimately the result of hbo cutting off two episodes, but also an issue of giving the crew too much spotlight, making stede and ed's plot line feel rush and poorly planned post ep3.
i have no doubt the finale will fix most of stede and ed's issues, but the scarcity of the scenes they share (and their contents) make their arc feel watered down to me, like the writing crew keep beginning to say something meaningful but getting cut mid sentence

We're two weeks in team! Have some simple blupjeans chatter
Day 14: celebrity au
Barry's just trying to buy a new tv for their bedroom, but Lup wants to talk about his celebrity status.
Read it on AO3
Barry considers the different tvs in front of him. “The 45 should be enough for where we're putting it. What do you think, babe?” He looks at Lup, but she's looking off in some other direction. “Lup?”
She turns to him. “Hm?”
“The tv?”
“Oh, yeah, whatever you want is fine.” She looks away again.
“Alright, uh,” he turns back to the sales associate helping them, “we'll go with the 45 inch one then.”
“Great! Just wait right here and I'll go grah the box from the back.”
They walk away, and Barry says to Lup, “what has you so distracted.”
She glances at him and grins. She links her arm through his and points to a tv nearby, “look.”
It's playing an episode of a cheesy mafia-themed soap opera. The same mafia-themed soap opera Barry was cast in 30 years ago to play the mob boss's fifteen year old son. The scene playing at the moment is from a recent season, showing Barry all done up in a suit, surveying some sort of shipment.
He rolls his eyes. “You're ridiculous.”
She laughs. “You're probably the only mainstream celebrity who comes to Best Buy for his tvs.”
“There's no way I'm mainstream. I'm like a T-list celebrity at best."
“Oh, come on. You're on Netflix!”
“Have you seen some of the shit on there? It's like finding an old can of beans from 1962 at the back of your grandma's cupboard sometimes. Plus,” he gestures vaguely at the tv, “the show's been running for over 30 years now, some streaming service was bound to pick it up eventually. It's not an indication of my celebrity status.”
Lup tuts. “You're selling yourself short, Bluejeans. You've gotta be at least E-list. The kids are getting into older shows nowadays.”
“I never get recognized in public.”
“Bullshit. There was that one time-”
“On the rare occasion that I do, they're almost always over the age of 60.” He gives Lup a look as he cuts her off, knowing she was going to mention that time they were on a road trip and a table of older women recognized him in a diner. She purses her lips, thinking. “You get recognized more than I do,” he says. “You're more of a celebrity than I am.”
“There's no way a YouTube channel makes me more famous than you, who's been a staple of daytime television since you were fifteen.”
“Oh yeah?” He tilts his head to indicate behind her, “six o'clock.”
“Excuse me?” Right on cue, a 20-something customer comes up to them. “I'm so sorry, but are you Lup Taaco?”
Barry takes a picture for them, and Lup talks to them for a few quick minutes until the sales associate comes back with their tv. The fan thanks her and scurries away. Barry takes the flat cart from the associate and starts driving it to the cash registers. “Told you,” he says.
“Shut up.” She crosses her arms. “I refuse to accept this slander to your popularity.”
“Lup, I'm a pudgy white guy in his 40s wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I'm practically set decoration when I'm in public. Now, if I walked around in a suit and waved a gun around going,” he makes a finger gun and does a silly impression of his tv self, “give me my fuckin’ money or I'll kill ya! Then I might get a little more attention.”
Lup considers this. “I don't think people would appreciate that.”
“No, I don't think they would. Unfortunately tv is pretend and I don't actually run the seedy underbelly of a major city.”
They get to the register, and Lup digs into her purse for her wallet. “Well at least we don't have to worry about the paps following us around.”
“And we can go to Best Buy for tvs.”

Audio Drama Recs for Buffyverse Fans
Hey there, dear listeners! Are you a Buffy fan who’s been listening to Slayers and it’s got you interested in learning more about this whole audio drama malarkey? Are you a Buffy fan who’s not been listening to Slayers but are always interested in recommendations for new media to check out? Are you maybe even a Buffy fan who’s already listened to some audio dramas but want some ideas for others to check out? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this is the list for you!
The world of audio drama is a weird and wonderful place where niche independent art can flourish. If you look close enough, there’s something there for everyone! It’s my hope that the release of Slayers can help bring this wonderful medium to more people’s attention, so I’ve compiled a list of a bunch of different audio dramas that I think will appeal to Buffy fans, whether that’s because they have a similar genre, similar tone, similar characters, or something else entirely.
No matter what it is you like about Buffy, I can almost guarantee there’s an audio drama out there where you can also find those same qualities. And the best part? All of the following audio dramas are absolutely free. An important part of the culture that’s emerged around indie audio dramas is that these shows are pretty much always free to listen to - funded instead by ads and patreon support. So you can just hop on to spotify, apple podcasts, pocket casts, or your other platform of choice, and get some beautiful narratives written by (and I do sincerely believe this) some of the most talented and visionary creative voices of the past couple decades beamed directly into your ears for the low low price of nothing at all. You literally have nothing to lose except time!
So without further ado, on to the recommendations:
Wolf 359
Listen if you like: Episodic/monster-of-the-week storytelling with an overarching plot, a tone that mixes comedy and drama, pastiches of popular genres (with heart), anti-authoritarian themes, stories about bands of deeply flawed misfits with interpersonal issues
Plot summary: Life's not easy for Doug Eiffel, the communications officer for the U.S.S. Hephaestus Research Station, currently on Day 448 of its orbit around red dwarf star Wolf 359. The Hephaestus is an odd place, and life in extremely isolated, zero gravity conditions has a way of doing funny things to people's minds. Even the simplest of tasks can turn into a gargantuan struggle, and the most ordinary-seeming things have a way of turning into anything but that.
Status: Finished
Episode count: 61 + minisodes and specials
Average episode length: 20-40 minutes
Why you should listen: I’m gonna say something that may be mildly controversial and say that Wolf 359 comes closer to capturing the Buffyverse’s tone and spirit than just about any other piece of media. A child of that mostly unfortunate period of time when every nerd creator on the planet wanted to imitate Joss Whedon’s style and it really does show (not least in the multiple direct references to Buffy the show makes). But while basically every other product of this writing style (including Whedon’s own later work) fell flat on its face into insincerity, Wolf, in a truly cosmically unlikely moment of lightning actually striking twice, just fucking nails it. It’s at once an ironic pastiche of science fiction serials from the golden age of radio while also being a serious and dramatic science fiction serial in its own right, and strikes the perfect balance between the two. While it starts out as more of a workplace comedy set in space, as the show goes on and the characters learn more about the company that sent them on their mission, the tone becomes increasingly serious and dramatic, without ever feeling like too much tonal whiplash. When it’s funny, it’s really funny, and when it’s serious and emotional, it hits depths of devastation few other shows can. While it may be science fiction and not fantasy, it shares the Buffyverse’s anti-authoritarian themes, as well as those shows’ large casts of flawed characters whose problems come just as much from interpersonal drama as from the speculative fiction elements of the story. If you ask me, it’s one of the greatest stories the 2010s ever gave us. But don’t just take my word for it, go check it out for yourself! Go meet Doug Eiffel, Renee Minkowski, Dr Alexander Hilbert, Hera, and a bunch more characters I can’t talk about without getting into spoilers. You can thank me later.
Ars Paradoxica
Listen if you like: A tone that mixes comedy and drama, anti-authoritarian themes, female-led shows, stories about bands of deeply flawed misfits with interpersonal issues
Plot summary: When an experiment in a time much like our own goes horribly awry, Dr. Sally Grissom finds herself stranded in the past and entrenched in the activities of a clandestine branch of the US government. Grissom and her team quickly learn that there's no safety net when toying with the fundamental logic of the universe.
Status: Finished
Episode count: 36 + specials
Average episode length: 20-40 minutes
Why you should listen: Ok, let’s say Wolf 359 appeals to you, but you’d prefer your semi-ironic semi-serious speculative fiction dramedy show with anti-authoritarian themes to have a female lead. I mean I’d still recommend listening to Wolf because while Eiffel may be the protagonist you still get to meet Renee Minkowski and Hera and [OTHER CHARACTERS REDACTED], but you could also try out Ars Paradoxica! Another child of the Whedon-influenced era that produced Wolf 359 with a similarly Whedon-influenced tone, I think Ars is a lot messier, tone-wise, but it’s worth working through that. While it starts off quite goofy and irreverent, as the show goes on it really matures and grows into itself and becomes something very special. It becomes the rare time travel story that actually engages in a meaningful way with the political dimension of the time period its characters’ travel to. It’s about the paranoia of the final days of WWII and beginning of the Cold War, it’s about the bigotries that shaped mid-20th-century society, it’s about war and scientific ethics and the desire for progress and what we’re willing to sacrifice for that progress. But despite its often dark themes, it’s also not as heavy as I’m making it sound, with all of its lofty ideas and high concept science fiction being anchored by a cast of highly flawed yet endearing characters, including the inimitable Dr Sally Grissom herself. Compared to other 2010s audio dramas, it’s fallen into obscurity into recent years, and I think it’s about time we bring it back into the light!
The Silt Verses
Listen if you like: Horror/fantasy, episodic/monster of the week storytelling with an overarching plot, anti-authoritarian themes, female-led shows
Plot summary: Carpenter and Faulkner, two worshippers of an outlawed god, travel up the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations. As their pilgrimage lengthens and the river’s mysteries deepen, the two acolytes find themselves under threat from a police manhunt, but also come into conflict with the weirder gods that have flourished in these forgotten rural territories.
Status: Ongoing (on its final season)
Episode count: 33+
Average episode length: 40-60 minutes
Why you should listen: It’s my favourite audio drama, hands down. More than that, it’s one of my favourite pieces of art, ever. Do you have even a passing interest in horror as a genre? If you’re a Buffyverse fan, then I assume the answer is ‘yes’. In which case, you should listen to TSV. Of all the horror podcasts I’ve listened to, I think TSV is far and away the most genuinely terrifying (I’d definitely recommend checking out the content warnings before listening) as well as having the most unique, well-thought-out, and generally interesting horror concepts and worldbuilding. It also plays with classic horror tropes in a way that feels vaguely reminiscent of BtVS at times, but its tone and atmosphere and writing style is all entirely its own. Despite this far darker tone and approach to horror, it also shares many of the Buffyverse’s themes. It’s a story about broken systems: living in them, dying in them, striking back against them, trying to fix them, burning them to the ground, all explored through a horror/fantasy lens. If you like how the Buffyverse explores its anti-authoritarian themes, you will probably also enjoy TSV’s approach. If you love the various complex fucked up little guys that make up the casts of the Buffyverse shows, then you’ll probably also love the various complex fucked up little guys that make up the cast of TSV, especially Sister Carpenter, the female lead of the show as well as one of the few characters in existence whose greatness rivals Buffy herself in my mind. And if you love the Buffyverse’s outlandish and often formally-inventive monster-of-the-week style episodes, then TSV’s own experimentations and propensity for bizarre fantasy concepts will likely also appeal to you. Really there’s very little else I can say without you experiencing the show for yourself. Do you like good things? Do you like things that are good? Go listen to TSV. Again, you can thank me later.
The Magnus Archives
Listen if you like: Horror/fantasy, episodic/monster of the week storytelling with an overarching plot, anti-authoritarian themes, stories about bands of deeply flawed misfits with interpersonal issues, fighting the apocalypse
Plot summary: A weekly horror fiction podcast examining what lurks in the archives of the Magnus Institute, an organisation dedicated to researching the esoteric and the weird. Join Jonathan Sims as he explores the archive, but be warned, as he looks into its depths something starts to look back…
Status: Finished
Episode count: 200
Average episode length: 30 minutes
Why you should listen: One of the more well-known audio drama podcasts, and definitely the most well-known of the recent audio dramas! A lot darker, more depressing, and heavier on the horror than the Buffyverse shows, but there’s still a lot that Buffyverse fans will enjoy, from the anti-authoritarian themes to the multiple apocalypses the characters face. While TMA starts off as an anthology series, with each episode being a self-contained horror story, as the show goes on recurring characters start to appear and an overarching storyline begins to emerge. The later seasons of the show really display a similar ethos to the Buffyverse shows when it comes to taking their characters to very dark places, and the way that the show plays with horror tropes will likely also appeal to Buffy fans! Prepare yourself for some truly creepy storytelling and truly heartbreaking emotional moments and give it a listen.
Janus Descending
Listen if you like: Horror, female-led shows
Status: Finished (sequel series ongoing)
Episode count: 13
Average episode length: 15-20 minutes
Plot summary: This limited series, science fiction/horror audio drama podcast follows the arrival of two xenoarcheologists on a small world orbiting a binary star. But what starts off as an expedition to survey the planet and the remains of a lost alien civilization, turns into a monstrous game of cat and mouse, as the two scientists are left to face the creatures that killed the planet in the first place.
Why you should listen: While it’s probably the least similar to the Buffyverse shows of any of my recommendations, I think Janus is still worth looking into simply because it’s a really great “starter podcast” for those who’ve never got into audio dramas before. It’s a limited series of just 13 episodes, each episode is only around 15-20 minutes long, and it uses the audio format in a really unique and interesting way. While it does now have a sequel series called Descendants, the original show works very well as a standalone narrative. The horror and tension and tragedy of the story is really well done, and despite how relatively short it is you still get to feel very close to the two protagonists. Another really underappreciated show that deserves more love.
Old Gods of Appalachia
Listen if you like: Horror/fantasy, female-led shows, anti-authoritarian themes
Plot summary: A horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.
Status: Ongoing
Episode count: 54+ (not including specials)
Average episode length: 30-40 minutes
Why you should listen: Another dark and gorgeously atmospheric horror podcast (you may be starting to sense a theme here), this one based around an alternate history version of Appalachia where eldritch gods and monsters inhabit the mountains and hills. Much like TMA, Old Gods is primarily an anthology series, consisting of a wide variety of different horror stories set in the same world. These stories range from one-off episodes to season-long arcs, and cover a broad spectrum of horror sub-genres. While I do find it a little hard at times to follow all the different connections between the different stories and arcs, I think it’s still absolutely worth listening to for its tone, storytelling, social commentary (plenty of “fuck capitalism” stories here), and well-written and complex female characters. Definitely a must-listen for all the horror/fantasy fans out there (and I know for a fact that’s a lot of you).
Hi Nay
Listen if you like: Horror/fantasy, female-led shows, stories about bands of deeply flawed misfits with interpersonal issues, episodic/monster of the week storytelling with an overarching plot
Status: Ongoing
Episode count: 32+
Average episode length: 30-60 minutes (not including specials and minisodes)
Plot summary: A supernatural horror fictional podcast about Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto.
Why you should listen: A very fun urban fantasy monster-of-the-week style show that pulls from both classic horror tropes and Filipino folklore. While I haven’t listened to much of this one yet, it’s a really engaging and often emotional listen with a very fun framing device that uses the audio medium in a clever way!
Of course, this is only a small fraction of the wealth of audio drama podcasts out there. I'm only one guy and I can't listen to all of them! If any of you have any recommendations for other audio dramas you think Buffy fans will enjoy, feel free to add them on! And if you're interested and have any questions feel free to send me a message - I always love talkin' audio dramas!
