Mantle

Early 1870s

This mantle appears to have been made from a wool shawl woven with broad bands of boteh motifs, originally with a central medallion now cut in half at the base of each side to fall attractively over arms in wear, and quarter medallions at each corner that are now placed at each side of the centre front and back of the garment.

Shawls striped with pattern, sometimes known as zebra shawls, were an alternative to the ubiquitous style of broad borders to a plain ground or central motif. Particularly popular from the 1820s to the 1860s they were produced by European manufacturers as well as the original Indian avid Kashmiri centres.

Robe de faye bleue de teinte moyenne, garnie sur son bord inférieur d'un volant plissé à la grecque ayant 20 centimètres de largeur et dont la tête de 3 centimètres est marquée par un biais de velours bleu. Corsage ouvert en châle avec revers de velours; manches justes à grands parements de velours. Ceinture de velours.

Enfant d'un an à quinze mois. Robe de piqué blanc garnie d'entre-deux en grosse guipure blanche, posé sur du ruban rouge en deux rangées sur le bord inférieur, en pattes sur le corsage décolleté. Ceinture et souliers rouges.

Robe de foulard nuance mode, à fines rayures noires. Cette robe ronde est garnie d'un haut volant (35 centimètres de largeur) surmonté d'un bouillonné; tunique pareille, bordée seulement d'un bouillonné dont la largeur est de 4 centimètres. Cette tunique, dont les lés sont séparés de chaque côté sous le bras, est drapée à l'aide de nœuds faits avec du ruban rouge; corsage ouvert sans manches, en même étoffe que la robe. Guimpe montante en mousseline blanche avec manches longues; ceinture rouge. Mêmes nœuds d'épaule; ruban de velours rouge au cou. Les lés de derrière de la tunique bouffent beaucoup en ce qu'ils ont été coupés plus longs que ceux des côtés.

Medium-colored blue faye dress, trimmed on its lower edge with a Greek-style pleated flounce 20 centimeters wide and whose 3-centimeter head is marked with a blue velvet bias. Open shawl bodice with velvet lapel; fair sleeves with large velvet facings. Velvet belt.

Child from one year to fifteen months. White pique dress trimmed with large white guipure inserts, placed on red ribbon in two rows on the lower edge, in tabs on the neckline bodice. Red belt and shoes.

Fashionable foulard dress with fine black stripes. This round dress is trimmed with a ruffled top (35 centimeters wide) topped with a bubble wrap; similar tunic, bordered only by a bubble, the width of which is 4 centimeters. This tunic, whose strips are separated on each side under the arm, is draped with knots made with red ribbon; sleeveless open bodice, in the same fabric as the dress. High white chiffon wimple with long sleeves; red belt. Same shoulder knots; red velvet ribbon at the neck. The back strips of the tunic have a lot of puff in that they have been cut longer than those on the sides.
