"NASA contracted to have 15 flight-worthy Saturn V rockets produced. Apollo 11 achieved the first landing with the sixth Saturn V, leaving nine for follow-on landings. The following landing sites were chosen for these missions, planned to occur at intervals of approximately four months through July 1972."

This is Erich Hartmann, the flying ace with the highest number of kills in history, timeline:

1922: He was born on 19 April 1922 in Weissach, near Württemberg.

1925: Given his father's difficulty in practicing medicine in Germany, the family moved to China.

1933: Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany.

1936: At fourteen he obtained his glider pilot's license.

1937: At the age of fifteen he became an instructor in the Hitler Youth.

1939: WWII began.

1940: He joined the Luftwaffe.

1940: He began military flight training in East Prussia.

1942: He went to Zerbst-Anhalt.

1942: He graduated as a lieutenant in March and later attended advanced air artillery school.

1942: He made his first mission.

1942: He carried out his first aerial shootdown, a Shturmovik IL-2,

1942: He was decorated with the Iron Cross second class.

1943: Gunther Rall appointed him commander of the 9th Squadron.

1943: He received the Iron Cross first class.

1943: He received the Luftwaffe honor cup.

1944: He achieved three hundred aerial victories.

1944: He received the Knight's Cross with oak leaves, swords and diamonds.

1944: He married Ursula Pätsch.

1944: He was the fourth pilot in history to reach 250 planes shot down

1945: flying on a Bf 109G-14 to locate Soviet forces, he spotted a Yak-11 or Yak-9 fighter, which was performing aerobatics, and shot it down. It was his last victory, number 352, and also the last of the Luftwaffe during the conflict

1945: World War II ended.

1949: During his imprisonment, he was accused by the Soviets of war crimes and sentenced to twenty-five years of forced labor on charges of "sabotaging the Soviet war effort".

1955: He was freed and repatriated.

1956: He joined the newly formed Luftwaffe.

1970: He took his leave.

1971-74: As a civilian he was a flight instructor in Hangelar, near Bonn, avoiding public appearances as much as possible.

1993: He died on September 20th.

1997: Russia acquitted him of war crimes charges.

Marguerite de Angeli

Marguerite de Angeli (March 14, 1889) was an award-winning writer and illustrator of children’s books. Often inspired by her environment, many of Marguerite’s books have centered on stories from her family and childhood, and later from the lives of her children and grandchildren. These realistic scenes of families and children are what resonated most from de Angeli’s stories, with audiences finding her books to be absorbing and filled with eye-catching images.

Though born in Michigan, Marguerite’s family moved to Philadelphia when she was 13, which she later used as the setting for many of her stories. Although Marguerite was naturally skilled in writing and illustration, this did not become an active pursuit for her until later in life when her five children were nearly grown. Stemming from the Sunday school paper Marguerite illustrated in the 1920’s, de Angeli began to center her work on a younger audience, penning her first picture book in 1935. This book and the subsequent centered on two children, Ted and Nina, as they went to a grocery store and later played together on a rainy day. Inspired by two of her own children, Marguerite’s knack for recognizing beauty in everyday scenes would stick with her throughout the rest of her stories.

While living in Pennsylvania, Marguerite came to know the Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish communities, incorporating their customs into her stories, as seen in her first Caldecott Honor Book, Yonie Wondernose (1944), the story of a curious Amish boy. She would later write about racial divisions in her story Bright April (1946), centered on racial prejudice in a post-World War II America. In 1950, Marguerite won her first Newbery Medal for the historical novel The Door in the Wall (1949), set in the Middle Ages as the Black Death sweeps across the country. She would later receive another Caldecott Honor and Newbery Honor for her Mother Goose adaptation and the Black Fox of Lorne, respectively. Though often centering on the stories of others, one of Marguerite’s last books, Butter at the Old Price (1971), tells the story of her family and the circumstances leading to her many stories and illustrations.

We have most of Marguerite de Angeli’s works in our children's book collection, many of them inscribed to James M. and Christine K. Wallace and their children. James Wallace, relative to Henry A. Wallace, 33rd vice president of the United States, became friends with Marguerite and her family, as the two likely ran into each other at some point during their time in Philadelphia. Not only are many of the novels signed to the Wallace family by Marguerite, but a good few include Christmas cards and invitations to publication celebrations. Within the James M. Wallace papers, Christmas ornaments and illustrations made by Marguerite can be found as well as newspaper clippings and photographs of Marguerite, James and Christine.

Some personal thoughts on this performance of Stairway To Heaven...

There was something profoundly moving watching the YouTube footage of Robert Plant performing Stairway To Heaven at the Andy Taylor concert.

This was the first live public airing of the song since the Led Zeppelin 02 Reunion on December 10 2007.

Before I delve in to this subject, Robert’s entire appearance was captivating. Thank you delivered with much emotion, Black Dog hammed up brilliantly and the version of Season of the Witch segueing into a reprise of Black Dog lyrics and Buffalo Springfield’s For What it’s Worth – as in the LA Forum 1970 Blueberry Hill bootleg.

Incidentally, bassist on the night Guy Pratt noted that he has now performed Black Dog with both Robert and Jimmy Page – he was part of the touring band on the Coverdale Page Japan visit in late 1993. The band line up on the night consisted of the aforementioned Guy, former Reef guitarist Kenwyn House (wearing a dragon patterned shirt shades of Jimmy perhaps), Rod Stewart’s drummer David Palmer, Andy Taylor plus Andy Taylor’s son Andy J Taylor on guitar, singer Anne Rani and musician Dino Jelusick on keyboard and backing vocals.

So back to Stairway To Heaven...

We have all had a journey with this song over the years. Mine commenced on April 4 1971 when I heard it on my radio listening to Led Zeppelin’s BBC In Concert performance on Radio One’s John Peel show. I’d heard Jimmy in an interview describing how it had come together in various sections building to a climax. Sure enough this tentative version did just that.

I first saw it performed live on Sunday November 21 1971 at the Empire Pool Wembley – an extraordinary night. It was of course one of the stand out tracks on their just released fourth album.

It went to attain legendary status – the most played record on American radio and from 1975 the rightful finale to every Led Zeppelin live performance.

Like many of their songs the arrangement was often toyed with, not least by the singer who over time added many an ad - lib to the lyrics. As it was performed on every Led Zep show, this enabled the song to retain a freshness.

The first ad-lib I recall was when he inserted the line ''you are the children of the sun'' during the version to be heard on the classic bootleg Going To California from their performance in Berkeley on September 14 1971. From 1973 onwards 'Does anybody remember laughter?‘’ was an expected insert after the line ‘’and the forest will echo with laughter.’’

By 1975, Robert had changed the line ‘’your stairway’’ to ‘’our stairway’’ adding the line ‘’that’s all we got.’’ As I witnessed in awe from the side of the stage during their 1980 Over Europe performances , Robert added ‘’I keep chopin’ and changin'’’ as they led into the climax.

Post Zep, Robert has sang Stairway To Heaven’’ it a mere four times – at Live Aid in 1985, the Atlantic 40th anniversary show in 1988, a sweet truncated version with Jimmy Page in a TV studio in Japan in 1994 and at the Led Zeppelin O2 tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun where he proclaimed after the song ‘’Ahmet we did it!’’

Well now he has done it again….

The obvious question is why now and why on this occasion?

There’s no doubt it was a special occasion being a concert staged by the ex - Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor. Andy has had serious cancer health issues and staged this concert in aid of Cancer Awareness Trust.

As well as performing on the night, Robert donated his personal gold disc of Led Zeppelin IV for the auction –as he put it ''our not so difficult fourth album.'' A part of this was featured on the video stream and it had clocked an initial £50,000 bid.“I love this music and I still love it now very much although I get a bit coy and shy when I have to go near it because it was such a long time ago,” he said.

In an interview with Led Zep News guitarist Kenwyn House revealed that Robert Plant chose to perform Stairway To Heaven after a wealthy donor agreed to donate a six-figure sum to charity if he did so.

So, a special occasion deems a special song for a very worthy cause.

It says everything for Robert’s ease with the Zep legacy, that he could perform this once millstone around his neck with such dignity.

As we know Stairway To Heaven became much maligned and a victim of much parody – and let’s not mention that farcical version by a disgraced not so all round entertainer.

Although he was quick to decry it in the immediate post Zep years, I happen to think Robert is rightly proud of the song, as he is the whole Zep legacy.

Who can forget his tearful reaction to the Wilson sisters and Jason’s performance at the Kennedy Honours in 2012?

So, with none of the pressure of performing it on a big stage and at a pressurised Zep related occasion, he was able to slot it in at this charity event with little fuss.

It worked majestically….

With an ad- hoc line up with few rehearsals, the arrangement was always going to be more loose than tight. That mattered little, as his vocal phrasing was absolutely spot on and what a joy it was to hear him sing this song with a calm control. Some subtle backing vocals aided the tranquil mood.

Here’s the thing – Robert Plant sang it as though he really meant it – confident in his skin at revisiting a major part of his past. Looking good with the mic off held in that familiar pose we know so well.

I wonder what was going through his mind? I know for me it prompted so many precious memories.

There were no ad-libs this time in what was out a fairly straight rendering – the guitar solo was neat and compact and they were back in for the grand finale. Here, Robert slowed things down and the key with it avoiding any strained vocals and he even sang the last section ‘’To be a rock and not to roll’’ for a second time – making it a unique arrangement. He did retain the ''our Stairway'' sentiment.

It was also unique for being the only time he has performed Stairway To Heaven without Jimmy Page...

The final ‘’and she’s buying’’ line was delivered with a delicate finesse – watching it prompted some instant flashbacks.

Momentarily I was back at Earls Court as the mirrorballs spun above them, back in that field just outside Stevenage when they came back to reclaim their crown (''so many people who've helped us over the years - no more people more important than yourselves who who came here on a blind date -this is for you all of yer'') and at home in 1985 watching the TV as the camera panned out to 90,00 watching them re group in Philadelphia for Live Aid.

I also thought about all the much missed friends and Zep comrades who are no longer around to enjoy this special moment...

All that was enough to prompt a huge lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.

Then Robert really sealed it.

Firstly he dedicated the performance to Andy:

“I know that in this contemporary age of digital stuff there’s every likelihood that other people will see that,” he said, facing Taylor. “So if they do, I offer it up to you and your success and to the whole deal that has happened here today and the future of it all.

And also so it’s not just that, I offer it up to Led Zeppelin, wherever they are”

Andy Taylor replied ‘’God bless ‘em there’s a lot of drummers in the sky we love.’’

Let's ponder on that statement...

It felt like he was giving the song back to his former bandmates and back to his audience – To the privileged few who were lucky enough to witness this special occasion and beyond that to countless fans like me and you.

Deep in the heart of the Cotswold's on an October Saturday evening Robert reclaimed a major part of his history and ours.

It’s likely he may never ever sing Stairway To Heaven this song again and if he doesn’t, it’s had a suitably poignant send off.

There was none of the pressure of the previous post Led Zep performances. It happened for a great cause and for a great fellow Midlands based musician.

I am aiming to be up in the Midlands in a few days’ time for the Saving Grace featuring Suzi Dian gig at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.

I am eagerly looking forward to it, not least after witnessing the YouTube video of this Andy Taylor tribute. For at 75 he is singing so brilliantly and his enjoyment as to where he is at in these advancing years is both inspiring and infectious.

Knowing that Robert Plant is at one with Led Zeppelin’s most famous song makes it all just a little bit more comforting.

As the song states ‘’If you listen very hard the tune will come to you at last’’

I’m still listening to Robert Plant intensely – as are countless others…

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I was doing the math earlier, trying to make a master post with everyone's ages/birth years, graduating years, the year they started Kindergarten, ect (let me know if you would like that anyways). Basically I was doing the math so nobody else had to and I noticed a few things.

Firstly, Erica Sinclair was actually born in 1974.

Her wiki says that she was born in 1975, but also that she's 11 years old in the year of 1986. The math seems like it adds up because 86 - 11 = 75, but that's actually wrong.

Being that she is in 6th grade during the 85-86 school year, she would've started Kindergarten in 1979 during the 79-80 school year. No matter how you spin it, if she'd been born in 75, she would've been 4 years old going into Kindergarten. Which isn't likely, if we assume she has to be 5 years old by a cut off date (*likely in September) in order to attend Kindergarten.

Basically, I'm saying that her being born in 1975 makes her too young to be where she is canonically.

I also came to the conclusion that her birthday is coming up, likely between April and September, as she'd be turning 12 soon in order to align with both her being 11 in March 1986 and being 5 before the cut off date sometime in 1979. It's also unlikely that her birthday would be in Late June or Early July, as she definitely would've used her birthday as a con to get free ice cream. I'm pretty certain it also would've been mentioned at some point in the show if she had done that, so we could even go so far as to rule out Late May and all of June, depending on when Steve and Robin started working at Scoops Ahoy and when Erica started going there for ice cream.

*I keep mentioning September as a cut off date despite stating in the edits to my Timeline Post that the cut off date is June 30th.

This leads me to my second discovery, which is that according to her, which sources her a book centered on her, Max's canonical birthday is July 12, 1971. That would also put her at 4 years old before the cut off date, if the date is indeed June 30th. But according to some research I did, which I also mention in the same post, Indiana didn't have an established cut off date until 1990. It is very likely that Hawkins had its own cut off date established only for its town, or even by county it is in. It's most likely the cut off date would've been in September, so I will always operate under the assumption that September is the latest possible cut off date. Even more will I operate under the assumption that a child must at least be turning 5 years old when going into Kindergarten (which is why Erica being born in 1975 cannot possibly work). Max's birthday being in July basically means the June cut off date at the very least isn't applicable to Hawkins in the 70s.

My final discovery was that out of all the members of The Party (excluding all older groups), Lucas and El are the only ones without canonical birthdates. We only know that Lucas is 15, El is 14, and that they were both born in 1971 along with the rest of the party. Also that they're all in the same grade, meaning they all would've started Kindergarten in 1976, during the 76-77 school year, this would include El if she hadn't been raised in the lab.

I can only assume that Lucas' birthday is between January and March, in order to have him born in 1971 but also 15 in Spring 1986. El is likely born between April and September, much like Erica, but in 1971, to comply with the same reasoning.

I noticed that there seems to be a pattern, too. They're all born in a different month, consecutively. Will was born in March, Mike in April, Dustin in May, and Max in July.

With this information, we could probably assume that Lucas was born in February and El celebrates her birthday in June, just to have a full circle that completes the pattern and complies with canon.

EDIT: According to some people who have actually read her book, it doesn't actually state a birthday and has some contradictions to canon, like all other "published on the side" books seem to have.

Regardless, I'll still further use September as the cut off date, since that's the latest possible date the cut off could be.

It's also okay if you want to ignore the cut off date entirely, no matter what it is, and have her born after September, if you want to comply with canon in that she was born in 1971 with the rest. But you could also ignore canon and comply with the "function" and have her born after September in 1970, to prevent confusion or something (I know I'd get confused if I did something like this, anyways). This would also make her the oldest instead of the youngest, in regards to the Party.

I still like the idea I followed while presuming she's a July baby, so I think I'll actually stick to that as my headcanon. I like the consecutive birthday pattern, it tickles my brain.

EDIT: Someone else did point out that back then, schools would sometimes take kids who weren't yet 5, so even if she somehow isn't born before September of 1971, I think its possible she could even be born in December, but I'd say it'd still have to be 1971. Which is also in compliance to how Erica is likely not actually born in 1975.
