My problem with the Prince Caspian movie
The reason i love CN:Prince Caspian is because of how Andrew Adamson squeezed the emotions out of Peter. From the frustration of being an adult locked in the life of a child who wants to return to his land/country, the happiness of returning to that place he loves so much, the sadness of knowing that it was destroyed, the anger of knowing that a descendant of his destroyers would be the one who would ascend to king of his country and the guilt for being forced to leave Narnia again with no possibility of return.
Tumblr media
My post is not to talk about those emotions, but i wanted to mention them anyway.
My post is to talk about my dissatisfaction with how everyone in the movie mocks Peter's words and orders, ignoring the title of high king. Except Edmund and Reepicheep; the rest, from Lucy and Susan, who are his royal sisters, to Trumpkin, Caspian, and Glenstorm, who are his subjects, disrespect his title of high king.
First Trumpkin by not addressing him with respect throughout the film, mocking his nickname, berating him for "leaving Narnia" and then making a fool of himself in the Stone Mountains when they searched for Caspian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is followed by Caspian, who equally disrespects Peter's position. Caspian is a prince from distant lands who intends to rule lands that he does not know, wanting to review the words dictated by the great king.
There's that scene where Peter suggests infiltrating the Telmarines' castle and Reepicheep asks, "What do you suggest, Your Majesty of him?" and both Peter and Caspian respond at the same time, a staring match ensues between the two which Peter obviously wins. The thing is, Caspian shouldn't have answered Reepicheep's question in the first place because the rightful King of Narnia was present let alone challenge him with his eyes because, I repeat, HE IS THE GREAT KING OF NARNIA and, not least, peter is Older than him. . . Maybe he didn't know it or maybe he did, but humanly Peter at that time was 31/32 years old although he would look like a child and as if that were not enough in the years of Narnia, Peter is 1300 years older than him, while Caspian was around 17 Just years, so...
Tumblr media
Peter's plan to infiltrate the castle would have worked if Caspian had followed Peter's orders and we all know that, but no. He completely ignored Peter's order to go to the door and Susan supported that disobedience, don't get me wrong, but i'll tell you how it is. It's not just Caspian's fault that the infiltration failed, if Susan had supported Peter instead of Caspian, everything would have worked out and Cornelius would have been released at the end of the infiltration.
Caspian's most obvious disrespect towards Peter was challenging him to a duel in front of his people when Peter called him a usurper and it's not entirely a lie, he really was a usurper. From the moment he thought he was the leader of the Narnian rebellion, even knowing that he had called the old monarchs, he became a usurper, or at least it was for me. I understand Caspian will get mad at being called a usurper, but he called Peter irresponsible as if Peter wanted to leave Narnia when he didn't and then dared to duel him on HIS EARTH!?!?!?! The least he deserved was execution.
Tumblr media
Third, Glenstorm. The mere fact that he was looking at Caspian as if he was waiting for his orders to follow the ones he received from Peter is disrespectful.
Tumblr media
Lucy when she pretended to embarrass him by reminding him that it was Aslan who defeated the white witch, not him. I UNDERSTAND that being her sister he has every right to reproach her if she disagrees with something because he is also Monarch of Narnia, but why didn't she do it in private? At that moment, she took away from Peter part of the authority over the others.
Tumblr media
I'm a little glad that at the end of the film in a scene they let us see how Peter showed that his title of Great King and his nickname of magnificent, he didn't have them just for decoration. However, it bothers me that throughout the movie they tried to make him look stubborn when he was just angry and outraged.
Tumblr media
Peter is the character in the entire saga that carried the most weight and yet he did not complain about what Aslan gave him, his greatest wish was to return to Narnia and stay there for the rest of eternity, which he achieved.
That's why i love the movie 50% and hate it 50%.

Will never understand why the Pevensie’s had to leave Narnia so soon after they helped Prince Caspian reclaim the Telmarine throne from his uncle and help the Narnians retain their freedom from the Telmarines after winning the revolution.
Like, I understand that in the moment Telmar and Narnia each had their “fit” ruler in Caspian, but it’s not like the Pevensie’s could’ve helped him settle into the role, you know? Granted, he did have his prior knowledge of Narnia thanks to his Professor, Aslan, Trumpkin, Trufflehunter, and the Centaurs to help him adjust to his responsibility…and also there is the fact that 1300 years have passed..but I mean…come on!
The Pevensie could easily stayed a few more months to help/mentor their new friend on how to lead, protect, and respect the Narnians and their traditions in the best way possible before they left like…why so soon, Aslan? Why couldn’t they stay a little bit longer? Huh? I’m sure their presence and wisdom wouldn’t have diminished Caspian’s role as King at all nor do think it would have hurt his growth as a person either rather it probably would’ve done the opposite. Maybe it would’ve made him more assured/confident in himself three years later??? Ya know!
Plus, the Narnians probably would’ve like it too! Having their Kings and Queens back to help set up the new foundations for the themselves as they begin new lives alongside the Telmarines.
But no…Aslan had other plans and we’re just supposed to be okay with it. *sighs heavily to the Pevensie’s, especially to Peter and Susan* I’m so sorry, you guys.

MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Y/n and Edmund were already friends when they went to the professor's house to escape the war. And it was also there when they were able to travel to Narnia for the first time, and despite everything they went through, they had each other for support.
After defeating the White Queen and becoming kings and queens of Narnia, Ed and Y/n's friendship began to take a different direction. They were both more than in love with each other and everyone knew it, but they were so oblivious that they didn't notice the signs they were giving.
A few years passed and courage came along with maturity and they confessed the feelings they felt for each other. It didn't take long for Edmund to ask Y/n to marry him and they got married.
However, after 1 year of marriage, Y/n and the Pevensies brothers ended up returning to the real world, in which they were still children.
And after long conversations, Y/n and Edmund returned to their relationship status and became boyfriends again. Because well, it wasn't the most common thing for pre-teens to be married, like that from one day to the next - despite having spent years in Narnia.
The years in the real world passed, Edmund and Y/n were happy with their relationship. They both studied at the same school, they had returned home, everything was going very well. Until a call comes and drags them to Narnia again.
After much searching for why they were there, they meet Prince Caspian who ends up telling them everything that was happening in the world.
Days passed and the ancient kings and queens had formed an army of soldiers together with Caspian, to prevent any type of threat that the Telmarines could send.
At the moment, Edmund and Y/n were sitting on top of the cave in which they were 'hiding'.
The 16-year-old girl was swinging her legs, while Edmund was behind them, with his arms around her waist and his head resting on his left shoulder.
"What would have happened if we hadn't returned to our world the first time we came here?" Edmund asks, while looking at the horizon together with Y/n.
The sun was still very high, but as it was autumn, the sun's rays did not provide adequate heat.
Y/n shifts a little and puts her hands where Ed's were.
"Honestly?? I don't know. But one thing is for sure, we wouldn't be here to help Caspian with the Telmarines." Edmund rolls his eyes when he mentions the prince's name. It wasn't like he hated the man. But lately he was with Y/n a lot and that was making the brunette jealous. "I don't think I could live 1300 years to be here" The girl jokes and Edmund smiles.
He places a kiss on the girl's shoulder and turns his head to look at his girlfriend.
"Since we're here, we should go for a walk. Peter said that later--" Ed can't finish, as someone is calling Y/n's name downstairs.
“Y/N!!” The person looks up and waves at the two.
"Can't this idiot see that you're busy?" Edmund spoke quietly, just to himself.
"CASPIAN, HI!!" Y/n waves from above, as she takes Edmundo's hands off her waist and prepares to get up. "I had agreed with Caspian that I would help him train with the sword." She smiles at Edmund, who now had a frown as he looked down at Caspian, as the Prince spoke to Reepicheep.
"Shouldn't we go for a walk now?" Ed turns his head to Y/n, but he was still in his place. Meanwhile, Y/n took her sword and placed it next to her waist and tied her hair in a high ponytail.
"I'm sorry. I'll see you later" The girl leans over and places a quick kiss on her boyfriend's cheek and walks towards the stairs.
Edmund turns forward again and sighs deeply, as he sees his girlfriend approach Caspian downstairs and laugh at something he said.
It's not like Edmund is a man with insecurities. On the contrary, he had a gigantic ego and loved to tease Y/n with it. Which made the girl roll her eyes and say that he was a man with very high self-esteem. But ever since Caspian showed up and formed a friendship with Y/n, he felt inferior to the prince.
There was even one night where Y/n was talking to Caspian about the war that was brewing and Edmund found himself thinking how well the two of them suited each other.
If Y/n knew this, she could spank her boyfriend and tell him to never think about it again. He was hers, and she would always be his. There was nothing and no one that could make the two separate.
But Edmund didn't know.
•••••••••••••••••••••••
Hours had passed and if they were to calculate the time with the position of the sun, they could say that it was already past 4 in the afternoon.
Edmund was inside with Lucy, Susan and Peter while the three talked about strategies against Miraz. Ed's mind wasn't fully in the conversation, Y/n and Caspian hadn't yet returned from training and this was causing different paranoias that his mind invented.
"Edmund? Are you okay?" Lucy asks and the other two brothers turn their heads to look at the boy too.
"Yes, yes. Of course" he says shaking his head and smiling fakely.
"So what did Peter just say?"
"Something about you and Susan going to the forest later" Edmund says and Lucy nods and returns to the conversation with her older brothers.
No more minutes pass and Edmund can hear Y/n's voice fill his ears, followed by Caspian's laughter. Which made the Righteous King roll his eyes slightly.
"I'm glad you're here!! I wanted to talk to you" Peter says as Y/n and the Prince approached them.
Y/n smiles and approaches Edmund to wrap his arm around Ed's.
It was no secret that Y/n's love actor was physical touch. Whenever she could, she hooked her arms with Edmund's, or just her little fingers. Kisses were also exchanged, on the corner of the mouth, on the cheek, on the neck, on the hand. She and Ed were in love with each other and never failed to show it to the public.
However, this time, when Y/n approached him to touch him, he shied away. At the moment, Y/n didn't notice and so didn't try to make contact with him again, she was paying attention to what Peter was telling her. However, Susan and Lucy observed their younger brother's action and exchanged glances.
"As I had for my brothers, we will leave in the morning to go to Miraz's camp, while Edmund goes to meet him to send a message, Caspian and Y/n try to get as much equipment as they can from their army. Ok?" Peter finishes and Y/n nods while the others respond that everything is fine.
"It was just that?" Edmund asks and Peter nods. "Okay, I'm leaving" he says in a serious tone and leaves the room. Leaving, Peter and Caspian talking, while Y/n frowned and watched her boyfriend leave the large space. Therefore, Susan and Lucy exchanged glances again.
"What was this?" Y/n turns to her sisters-in-law and asks.
Lucy shrugs. As if to say he didn't know either.
"We don't know. The moment you arrived and went close to him, Lucy and I saw that he escaped. But after that, I think there is something wrong with him" Susan says worriedly.
"I saw him leave, but I didn't want to say anything." Y/n speaks. "We were much earlier. I'm going to see what's going on!!" Y/n smiles at her sisters-in-law before moving.
"Lucy and I are going to get ready to leave. Let us know anything, ok?" Susan puts a hand on her sister-in-law's shoulder and she smiles.
"Okay. And you guys take care!!" Y/n says and smiles at them, so Susan and Lucy leave the room too.
"So?? Do you want to train more or enough classes for today?" Caspian asks as soon as Peter starts talking to his troops.
"I think today is fine. I'm going to check on Eds. He's been acting strange since we arrived" Y/n says and Caspian nods positively.
"Okay. Go check on your husband" he smiles kindly.
Y/n furrows her eyebrows and smiles.
"How do you know Ed and I were married?" She puts her hands in the back pocket of her pants and questions Caspian with a smile.
"Well, I had to do some research before they called you guys to help me." He says raising his arms in surrender. "They were murderers and they were at my uncle's side"
Y/n rolls her eyes smiling.
"Really. It's always good to do some research like that beforehand" She laughs and then walks away a little. "See you later, Caspian"
He raises a hand as a way of saying goodbye and Y/n leaves and goes to where Edmund could be.
After looking for him in every room, the last place he could be is up there. Where was he with her earlier?
Once there, Edmund had his feet on the edge and threw some pebbles he found on the ground beside him.
"Eds, is everything okay? You walked out of the room strangely just now. And well, these last few days you've been acting really strangely too. Is something going on?" Y/n asks as she bends down and places her hands on his shoulders.
He shrugs his shoulders and Y/n removes his hands and looks at Ed, while sitting next to him.
"It's okay...I guess" he says quietly.
"Ed...I know when something is going on with you. I've known you since I was little, we were married and dating for years. You can trust me." She tries to get closer to him, but he removes his hand before she can put it on.
“Yes, that’s the problem Y/n!!” He turns quickly, making Y/n jump. "I can trust you, I've known you for years. The way you know me, I know you, but it's not happening anymore. These meetings of yours with Caspian all early in the morning and late in the afternoon are driving me crazy." He gets up and Y/n looks at him scared.
Which ends up causing her to get up too and start to question what he was trying to say.
"Edmund?? What are you insinuating with that??" Y/n says seriously. "You mean I'm seeing Caspian because I can have a secret romance with him??? IS THAT?" Y/n freaks out. How in years could he think that of her?!
“IT’S Y/N, EXACTLY THAT!!” He screams and opens his arms briefly. Which made Y/n's eyes start to form tears in the corner of them. "You spend so much time with him, I feel like you're putting our relationship aside. I know we're in a possible war, but spending time with your boyfriend doesn't kill anyone."
"Are you listening to what you're saying?? It seems like you don't trust me and our relationship" she says with some tears falling.
"How can I trust?? When we were Kings and Queens of Narnia, you ran away from your marriage to the prince of Calormania to be with me. What guarantee do I have, that you are not doing this again to be with Caspian and me?" drop??" Edmund says loudly and turns to see Y/n, realizing what had said, his eyes widen.
Y/n stands ecstatic in place. Immobile, statue. His brain was replaying all the words Ed will just say.
What guarantee do I have that you're not doing this again to get Caspian and dump me??
Was that what he thought of her?? If she had done it once, could she do it again? With him?? Love of your life?!!
"Y/n, I don't..." He tries to say but she cuts him off in the middle of the sentence.
"Is that what you think about me, Edmund??" Tears fall violently from the girl's eyes. "Do you think that if I did it once I can do it again?? Do you think I have a chance of leaving you?? You are insulting me, as if I were capable of that. You know very well how I feel about this matter. It's the same thing about you!! Would you like me to say that you have a chance of betraying your brothers again?? I NEVER INSIGNED THAT TO YOU. HOW COULD EDMUND BE ABLE TO DO THAT??" Y/n practically screams, as she turns to leave.
"Y/n, that's not what I was saying. You know--" he follows her up the stairs and outside.
"SHUT UP" She screams. "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP" she screams desperately, making Peter, who was inside, listen. "Leave me alone" Y/n says before walking away and leaving Edmund crying.
Peter runs out and finds Edmund kneeling on the floor crying desperately, while running his hands through his hair.
"Ed, what happened??" Peter approaches his brother. “I heard Y/n screaming.” With this sentence, Edmund cries more.
Peter helps his brother to cheer himself up, as he stood up and looked around to see if Y/n was nearby.
The sun was starting to set and he didn't want anyone outside the perimeters they had established. If not, it would be certain death if it was disarming.
Peter had even thought about sending some of his soldiers to go after Y/n, but he knew that she and Edmund had a fight and she needed to cool down.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Night had already fallen and hours had passed, and Y/n still hadn't returned.
Looking around the perimeter, one of the soldiers had informed Peter, Caspian and Edmund that one of the horses had gone missing. Which led the three of them to think that Y/n had gone riding to try and distract her mind.
"Alright, me and a few others will go after Queen Y/n. In the meantime, you guys stay here in case she shows up." Peter says.
"I'll go along" Edmund says, getting up from a rock he was sitting on.
Reepicheep jumps on Edmund's shoulder and slaps him on the head.
"aww!!"
"You stay here. I heard your fight and I know the last person she wants to see is you. Sit there now!!" He says harshly and Edmund obeys.
Caspian lowers his head and hides as Edmund glares deadly at him.
"Should we inform Susan and Lucy too??" Caspian says, as he looked at King Peter now.
"They must be very far away now. But we will find Y/n before they even ask if everything is okay here." Peter tries to think positively.
With that, Peter and 3 other soldiers from his troops left to go in search of Y/n who was now probably lost in the forest. Thus leaving Caspian, Edmund and Reepicheep inside.
"Look..." Caspian starts saying and Edmund looks at him. "I probably know that the fight started because of me..."
"...I'm glad you know..." Edmund rolls his eyes.
"And I really didn't want to have caused it. I never looked at her or thought about anything more than our friendship. She's a sweet, gentle, companionable girl. Before I called you to Narnia again, I found out that you were married and had a beautiful relationship before this, it was never my intention to separate one from the other. I also know how much she loves you, in our first trainings, she couldn't stop talking about how you trained her in Cair Paravel. Her eyes filled with love and passion when" Caspian he finishes and gives Edmund a friendly smile, before leaving and leaving him alone.
And when he realized the positive words Caspian gave him, Edmund burst into tears again.
And meanwhile, Peter and the soldiers were in the dense forest looking for Y/n. The current of the river that passed by them was so violent that it made a giant noise.
"KING PETER, I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING" Oreius says louder than Peter could hear.
With that, The Magnificent King and the others approach where Oreius was. Only to see Y/n's horse lying dead on the riverbank, with some arrows in its belly and Y/n trapped between some rocks in the river, also with an arrow shot in her left arm.
“Holy shit, Y/n!!” Peter exclaims desperately as he gets off the horse and runs to the water to get her out.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
After pulling Y/n out of the water, Peter and the troops ran to where they were camping so he could go to one of his soldiers who could save her.
The Queen was in terrible condition, and if there was no one who had medical experience, the end would be near.
Not even Lucy's bottle could help, since she and Susan had left for a mission and if they were to call them now to come back, Y/n would already be gone.
Arriving at the place where they were, Peter gets off the horse with Y/n in his arms and runs to the main room. Thus asking Oreius to call someone from his troops with medical experience to help his sister-in-law.
“Y/N!?” Edmund runs towards his brother and his girlfriend, while Peter placed Y/n lying on the floor.
"We found her in the river trapped in some rocks. We don't know how long she was there, but she was hit by an arrow and that probably caused her to fall off her horse and drown in the water." Peter explains and Edmund tried to do mouth to mouth breathing with her, so that she would come back to life.
"Has anyone called a specialist yet??" Edmund speaks loudly and they nod their heads in agreement.
Before long, Oreius arrived with a fellow soldier who said she already had experience with this type of trauma and had already managed to save some.
"Excuse me" Fabieni - the minotaur, approaches Y/n's body and begins to carry out the procedures with the equipment available there.
King Peter asked to empty the room and leave only those most useful. So as not to disturb Fabieni in the rescue process.
Caspian nodded and was about to leave with the others, when he felt a hand pull his forearm.
"Y-you can stay" Caspian looks back and sees Edmund with his eyes full of tears.
Caspian smiles slightly and nods.
Peter, Caspian, Edmund and Oreius were further away from Y/n's body, so as not to disturb Fabieni in the process.
There were a few minutes of Fabieni giving Y/n cardiac massage and examining the arrow wound on her arm, before stopping and looking down. Which left Edmund distressed.
"What happened?? What's going on??" Edmund gets up and approaches Y/n's body.
"I've tried everything... But we don't know exactly how long she was in the water, and we don't know how deep the arrow could be in her chest. And if we pull it out and there's a hemorrhage, we don't have any equipment that can save her." la. Your pulse is also very weak...I'm sorry, King Edmund..." Fabieni says before getting up and being guided by Oreius out of the room.
Edmundol lowers himself onto Y/n's body and begins to cry desperately. Peter also had some tears in his eyes when he approached his brother.
"Ed...did you hear Fabieni...come on brother, there's nothing--"
"NO!!" Edmund screams and starts giving Y/n a cardiac massage, while interspersing with mouth-to-mouth breathing. "I'm not going to let Y/n go away like this. There's something. Someone call Susan and Lucy here again, Lucy has that bottle that can help and--"
"They're very far away at these times, Ed" Peter tries to put his hand on his brother's shoulder.
"NO, GET UP AND DO SOMETHING. I'M NOT GOING TO LET MY WIFE DIE HERE!!" Edmund screams and goes back to doing cardiac massage.
What he didn't know was that right when Peter went after Y/n, Caspian had called them by trumpet and they would probably already be nearby.
"Peter, come here..." Caspian calls the supreme king and they both leave the room, to leave Edmund alone and Caspian to talk to Peter about what he had already done.
"Come on, Y/n" Edmund squeezed Y/n's chest, so that her pulse increased. "Come back to me, baby." He cries, almost losing his strength but never giving up on her. "I'm sorry for everything I put you through, it's all my fault. You know I love you so much and I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. But I feel like I hurt your heart with those disgusting words I screamed at you. So please come back to me." Edmund cries as he says it. "If you don't want to be with me anymore, that's fine, but please. Come back to life"
Edmund spent around 40 minutes doing cardiac massage until the queens arrived.
"Where is she, where is she?" Lucy runs into the room. "Edmund!!"
"Lucy!!"
"Caspian called us a few hours ago, we didn't know what it was but we came as quickly as possible" Susan explains as she approaches her younger brother.
Edmund looks at Caspian and tries to smile.
He made a mental note to thank Caspian after this was all over.
"Come Ed, let Lúcia take care of it now" Peter calls his brother and wraps him in a hug, while Edmund looked at his girlfriend's body, almost devoid of color and life.
Lucy bent down next to Y/n's body with the bottle and checked her pulse. Thus, standing next to your sister-in-law's glass without making any movement or putting a drop from the bottle in her mouth
"Lucy, why are you standing there?? Do something!!" Edmund asks, trying to get out of his older brother's arms.
Meanwhile, Susan, Caspian, Oreius and reepicheep were further away.
"I need her heartbeat to stop so I can put the liquid in her. We don't know what will happen if I ingest it in her, when she still has life. Even if it's minimal" Lucy says and then checks her pulse.
It doesn't take long for Lucy to place her sister-in-law's arm on the floor and turn to her brothers.
"The pulse is gone" she says and Edmund starts to cry. "Now we just have to pray for it to take effect" Lucy says while shaking and putting a drop of the liquid in her sister-in-law's mouth and taking the arrow out of her chest, thus pressing it so that there is no bleeding.
Seconds and minutes passed and nothing was back to normal.
Edmund leaves Peter's side and approaches Y/n.
"Why isn't it working??" He asks desperately and Lucy gets up, now with some tears in her eyes.
Had she arrived too late??
Edmund looks at Y/n and caresses his girlfriend/wife's pale cheek.
"Y/n, please...come back to me" a tear falls from Ed's eye and lands on the girl's face. Thus making her open her eyes and start coughing.
Ed helps her get up to spit out the water that was still in the girl's throat.
"It's okay, it's okay" Ed says as she spits out all the water and cries.
"Ed..." She wraps her arms around his neck and puts her head on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said all those words. I was so scared of losing you, that I almost made it happen. It's still my fault." He cries.
"I'm here. I'm fine!! I don't plan on leaving your life, I never have" Y/n whispers.
"Please do not leave me."
"Never, darling.

Author: Just to explain, the Fabieni described in the story does not exist in the films. I only created her to have a role as a doctor, so as not to get lost without someone specialized in the health field there in this story.

@reiignonme liked this for a starter {{&&edmund&caspian}}
Tumblr media
edmund shook his head ❝i don't know how i got back here anymore than you do caspian,❞ he stated ❝i was told by aslan that i was too old. now i'm back here, without my family, or even eustace. are you sure there's no big crisis? or political problem?❞ edmund was happy to be back in narnia, but it worried him that he did not know why. at least it wasn't like when he came back the first time, when it had been 1300 years. however...caspian was the only one he knew.

Relistening to Dawn Treader. And started thinking about when Coriarken would have been in the heavens. My initial thought was "I wonder if he was a star lucy and Edmund knew of" but then I remembered that they were only.... let's say. 10 generations, 500 or so years let's say (my family had 3 generations per century. Than add a handful more to account for disarray in Narnia.) So he probably wasn't. But then, how much time was between Helen and Frank and Narnias golden age. Also, how many people fell through the old chasms and chinks in between the worlds. So what percentage of the population is decended from Frank and Helen and what is various others?? When was Coriaken oh high???? How long has he been down????? How old is the land of Narnia???? Ahhhhhhhh
(All rhetorical, but thought you would enjoy it as well)
You know, it's funny, I've often had similar thoughts regarding Ramandu. Because he actually says “I am Ramandu. But I see that you stare at each other and have not heard that name. And no wonder, for the days when I was a star had ceased long before any of you knew this world, and all the constellations have changed.” And of course, that "you" includes Edmund and Lucy.
And like. If Jack's timeline is to be believed (it isn't), that means he's been on R&R for at least 1300 years, likely more. Plus, there's only another 1400 years of Narnian history after this, so even if Ramandu returned to the skies the day after the Dawn Treader left, he's still missed out on a sizeable chunk of Narnian history... I'd have to imagine that Coriakin's situation is similar, to say nothing of any other stars that might need a rest or a time out at some point.
So it only makes sense for Narnian history to be a lot longer and more expansive than Jack indicated, right? I mean obviously the timeline's bogus, that's not news to anyone. But it's moments like this that (at least in my mind) reinforce the notion that Jack must have envisioned a much longer history for Narnia too, prior to writing the timeline. And ultimately, who cares? Narnia isn't about the Deep Lore and nitpicking like this kinda misses the point. But also-- I care! I have invested so much of myself into this fairytale world I want it to make some internal sense!
SO yeah, of course, I know exactly where you're coming from and absolutely enjoy your ramblings :)
More Narnia is always best, so I choose to think that Narnia lasted for tens of thousands of years. Ramandu and Coriakin both returned to the skies. People fell through the cracks far more often than one might think. The Calormens, obviously. But also others. Maybe even someone from 2022. Time is strange between the worlds, so I don't see any reason for the fact that it ended in 1949 to preclude a few visitors today.

Cold winter: Prince Caspian
PRINCE CASPIAN
Category: Fantasy literature / The Chronicles of Narnia
After covering the White Witch, I had to talk about another of the important recurring titular characters of C. S. Lewis’s Narnia world: Prince Caspian.
Prince Caspian is the titular character (but not really the protagonist?) of the second book of the Chronicles of Narnia, “Prince Caspian”. Prince Caspian was born in the royal family of Narnia, roughly 1300 years after the end of the first book (in Narnia’s timeline, on Earth only one year passed) – however this Narnia is… quite wrong. Indeed the Narnia Caspian grows in is a Narnia without any kind of nature spirit, supernatural being or talking animals – they are treated as old legends, folktales and superstitious, and the actual ruling king of Narnia, Miraz, hates those “tales” so much he forbids them to ever be spoken in his castle – even casting away Caspian’s nurse when she dares tell him stories about a “mythical Narnia with talking beasts”. However despite Miraz’s hatred of these follies and fairytales, Caspian grew up loving and adoring them, dreaming to be in the magical Narnia he had heard about. Another thing very wrong with this Narnia, but that is only known to the reader, is the very fact that Narnia is now inhabited and ruled by humans. The protagonists of the first book, four human children, were the first humans in Narnia for a VERY long time, and never left any descendants, so to have a Narnia suddenly only inhabited by humans is very problematic.
All is revealed when a teenage Caspian is revealed by his tutor, Doctor Cornelius, that in truth all of the so-called “legends” are real, and just memories of Narnia a thousand years ago. The giants, dwarfs, fauns and talking animals still live in Narnia – but in lesser numbers than before, hiding from humans in small secretive communities. Doctor Cornelius himself turns out to be half-human half-dwarf. As it turns out, the humans that live in Narnia today, the Telmarines, were once greedy and corrupt pirates from our world, who found a portal to Narnia and invaded the country, battling and persecuting its magical inhabitants until they took full domination of the country. They don’t even rule from the thrones of Cair Paravel, intended for the rightful inheritors of Narnia – instead building their own castle far away from it and letting Cair Paravel fall into ruin. Prince Caspian is introduced to and becomes an ally of the small surviving community of supernatural beings and their rebellious faction who plans to overthrow Miraz and restore the native inhabitants of Narnia into power.
Why, you might ask? Of course, not just because Caspian is an absolute fan of magic and the supernatural and always dreamt of a Narnia of fairies, fauns and centaurs. Prince Caspian is a fundamentally good person and heroic figure – charming with his golden hair and fair skin (typical Telmarine traits), brave in the face of danger, all-loving and always seeking justice, kind and with good intentions, he truly understands the suffering of Narnia’s inhabitants and the wrong that was done to them by stealing their land, he seeks to make things right… But he is also more prone to break off with his old life when Miraz seeks to kill him. You see, Caspian isn’t Miraz son, but rather his nephew and the son of the previous king before Miraz, Caspian IX, Miraz’s own brother. But Miraz is a corrupt, greedy, heartless man who only was kind to Caspian because he had no heir of his own and tried to mold him as his son. The minute Miraz obtains his own son, he quickly starts regarding Caspian as a threat who could rob his own heir of the throne – and when Doctor Cornelius reveals that Miraz killed his own brother, Caspian’s father, to get the throne, Caspian and his tutor promptly flee from the castle to avoid Miraz’s murderous ambition. As such, Caspian lives in the woods and the wild of Narnia, leading the rebellious Narnia natives… until the actual protagonists of the book, the four children of the first book returning to Narnia, arrive. Which leads to one epic battle between the heroes of Narnia and Miraz’s forces, as the magic of the land slowly returns, leading to trees waking up, nature gods walking around, and Aslan himself making his roar heard…
Prince Caspian’s second appearance is in the third of the Narnia books, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, but now as the new legitimate ruler of Narnia, Caspian X, Lord of Cair Paravel and Emperor of the Lone Islands. And this novel explores another aspect of his personality that will give him several additional titles, such as Caspian the Seafarer and Caspian the Navigator. Three years after the events of the second book, now a young man, king Caspian sets on a perilous journey on the sea, the titular “Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. For you see, in the second book we learned that Miraz got rid of the seven lords that stayed true and faithful to Caspian’s own father, by sending them on a dangerous journey through the Lone Islands (a set of islands spreading off from the coast of Narnia), all the way to the “end of the world”. The seven lords were never seen again and king Caspian decided to seek them back, see if they were still alive or dead, and if they were still alive restore them as noblemen of Narnia. On his way to the Lone Islands, he will rescue from the sea some of the protagonists from the previous novels (more kids coming from our world into Narnia), and together they will have lots of adventures as they seek the “lost lords of Narnia”. This journey will prove very eventful in many ways, from Caspian dismantling a slavery market and bureaucratic corruption in some of the Lone Islands, to him actually finding the love of his life in the person of the daughter of Ramandu, a wizard from the last island before the end of the world (and a star that left the heavens to live on Earth. Yes, Narnia wizards are stars, I’ll maybe explain that if I pick back up “Magical Summer”).
The last and final appearance of King Caspian is in the fourth Narnia novel, “The Silver Chair”, taking place fifty years after “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. Now Caspian is an old man, who has a son named Rilian – unfortunately, a vicious snake bit his wife and killed her with its venom, and as Rilian went on a journey to find back the large beast and kill it, he in turn disappeared. Caspian searched everywhere for his missing son, to no avail, and when the protagonists of the novel arrive to Narnia, they find Caspian preparing a sea-voyage. Officially, he tells everyone that he just grew nostalgic and wishes to revisit the places of his past by recreating his odyssey of the previous book – but many people think and believe that in truth he seeks to go beyond the end of the world, to seek Aslan in his “country” (a strange, heavenly place beyond the end of the world) to have his son returned to him. It is rather the protagonists of the novel who will undergo a quest to rescue the lost Rilian (who as it turns out is a prisoner of another witch akin to the White Witch, the Lady of the Green Kirtle). Rilian returns just in time in Narnia to see his father dying of broken heart and old age, and as the two embrace a final time Caspian dies and Rilian becomes the next Narnian ruler.
- - - - - -
Actually, Caspian appears a fourth and final time in the “Chronicles of Narnia”, in the final book, “The Last Battle” – as a part of the story takes place in Aslan’s Country, the Narnian equivalent of heaven, and there Caspian can be found, since he went there after his death, with the youth of his first glorious adventures restored.
As with how The White Witch took inspiration from numerous literary and mythical figures, Prince Caspian (then King) is also an amalgam of various legends. He is a bit of king Arthur, and he is a bit of Robin Hood during his youth, and his sea voyage through magical islands makes him the equal of Odysseus as much as of Saint Brendan… Interestingly, the second book of the Narnia chronicles, "Prince Caspian", actually plays a deliberate parallel with the first book - as in, the story of Miraz's rule and his downfall being a reflection of the White Witch's rule. Miraz's rule isn't an endless winter without Christmas, but it is an oppression that robs the land of all its magic while forbidding any kind of "tales" about the Old Narnia to be spoken - an oppression and persecution that works so well that many of the talking animals are reduced to "non-sentient beasts" and the very trees of Narnia, normally "alive", all fall asleep and become just wood. Both rules rely on a lie (the Witch's that she is the rightful ruler of Narnia, Miraz that humans are the rightful inheritors of Narnia and its only true habitants) ; and both rules start to decline in parallel to a series of signs showing that Narnia finds back its life and that the true, rightful magic comes back. For the White Witch, it was the melting of her snow coupled with the arrival of Father Christmas in Narnia ; for Miraz, it was the return of powerful nature spirits/small Narnia gods, such as Bacchus and the "river god of Beruna". And of course, no need to point out the obvious: both rules' demise were also heralded by the return of Aslan to Narnia, even though in Miraz case Aslan stayed mostly in the background as a motivational and inspirational force, unlike with the White Witch were Aslan had to take the matters into his own hands - well, paws.

frozen in time
pairing: Peter Pevensie x fem!reader
requested: on wattpad
word count: 3.8k
warnings: none
description: the reader wakes up from a deep sleep which lasted 13 centuries only to find that narnia has been overrun by telmarines
Tumblr media
Y/n L/n met the Pevensie siblings on their first trip to Narnia. She was supposed to have dinner with the Beaver family on the night that the Pevensies arrived in Narnia, and Mr. Beaver, having forgotten this, invited the Pevensies to dine with them.
Peter and Y/n immediately hit it off, being similar to each other in many ways. Susan and Y/n also quickly became very close friends.
Soon after, Y/n saved them from the White Witch's wolves before taking them to meet Aslan. You see, Y/n is what most would call a werewolf, but she can control it. She decides when she switches between being a human and a wolf.
To sum it up, the White Witch was killed, the good guys won, and they lived happily for a long time, well, until the Pevensies accidentally went back home. The thing is, they left Y/n. Aslan knew that the Pevensies would return and it would be too heartbreaking for them to lose Y/n, so he froze her in time, made her look the age she would have been if she had gone with the Pevensies, and put her in the centaurs' care until the Pevensies returned and she would awaken.
This, however, was 1303 years ago.
.....
Y/n woke with a start. She sat up, she didn't recognize her surroundings. She blinked her eyes a few times, trying to remember what had happened, but all she could remember was Aslan's voice saying, "You'll see them soon, Y/n."
She looked around the room, well, it was more of a tent. There was a trunk, a bed (which she was sitting on), and a mirror. She walked over to the mirror.
"I- I'm young again!" she gasped. Now she was extremely confused.
She looked down at what she was wearing. It was a simple nightgown. Y/n walked over to the trunk and peered at all of the gowns inside. She went for one on the simpler side, but one that still looked nice. She also grabbed her sword and belt. She wanted to be safe, seeing as she still had no idea where she was.
She left the tent and was met with a large group of centaurs.
"Where- where am I?"
"Your Majesty," a centaur said, bowing. The others followed suit. "I had no idea you were awake."
"That doesn't answer my question." She stated.
"If you're awake, that means..." he trailed off.
"Can someone please tell me where I am?" She raised her voice, frustrated.
"You, my lady, are in the Southern Woods of Narnia, the current home of the centaurs." Another centaur explained.
"What is the year?" She asked.
"It is currently 2303." The same centaur said.
"But that means-"
"Yes, my lady, you were asleep for 1300 years." A centaur confirmed.
"You look pale, maybe you should rest." A female centaur stepped forward.
"I did rest," she scoffed, "I rested for 13 centuries. I'm fine."
The centaur stepped back, understanding.
"You started saying something. You said that me being awake means something. What?" She asked the first centaur.
"I don't want to get your hopes up, but if it means what I think it means, then you are going to be very happy very soon. For now, we must move. We can not stay put for long in fear of the Telmarines."
"Telmarines? In Narnia?" Y/n asked. A few centaurs let out bitter chuckles, wishing they too had known a free Narnia.
"Yes, now we must go." The centaurs began packing up the tents and the others gathered the children.
The first centaur, Glenstorm, crouched so that Y/n mount his back.
The next few days rushed by. A young man named Caspian met with the centaurs and other creatures of the woods to try to recruit them to help him against the Telmarines. During this time, however, Y/n stayed with the younger centaurs to keep them out of the way of their parents during the meeting. She told them stories of the Narnia of old and, seeing as it was getting late the centaurs fell asleep, Y/n did as well. When she woke up, everyone was gone. She saw some hoof prints and followed them.
The prints led her strait to-
"Peter?" she asked, not believing her eyes. The boy's head whipped up to where he had heard her voice.
"Y/n?" he asked, blinking a few times.
"Peter!" She exclaimed, running towards him and embracing him. As soon as she had seen him, she had had a strange feeling in her stomach. It felt like butterflies flying around in her stomach and when she hugged him she felt sparks wherever they were touching. She had never felt this way around him. She ignored the feeling, there was already enough going on.
"Y/n!" Lucy exclaimed, running towards her and giving her a large hug, Susan and Edmund followed suit.
"We- we thought you were dead." Peter began, his eyes began to water but no tears fell. "How are you not dead?"
"I don't actually know," Y/n said, looking to Glenstorm to see if he could explain.
"Aslan thought it would be too heartbreaking for Y/n to be without you when you came back, so he froze her in time, she was asleep for 1300 years," Glenstorm explained.
"Y-you're Queen Y/n?" Caspian asked, stepping forward. The two hadn't officially been introduced.
"The one and only," she nodded.
A while later, everyone was just hanging out around campfires.
"Susan, can I talk to you?" Y/n asked Susan, who had been talking to Peter and Edmund.
Susan nodded, standing up. Y/n pulled her away from all of the others.
"I- I think I like Peter." She said, stuttering and stumbling over her words, which, by the way, was nothing like the normally confident Y/n.
"Really?" Susan had always thought Y/n and Peter would end up together. "I didn't tell you, but I think he likes you back. When we learned that we had been gone this long, I am almost positive I saw a tear slip."
The two girls continued their gossip, moving on to talk about how Susan had an obvious crush on Caspian.
When they went back to sit with Peter Edmund, and now Caspian, they were both giggling uncontrollably. They managed to compose themselves, but Y/n still had a huge smile on her face as she sat down next to Peter.
"What're you so happy about?" Peter asked.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Y/n said.
"Well yeah, that's kind of why I asked."
Y/n looked at Susan and the two burst into another fit of laughter.
.....
"Lucy, you're staying," Peter stated. The group was discussing who would go to attack the Telmarines and who would stay.
"But-" she sighed, stopping herself, figuring it was probably for the best.
Peter looked to Y/n, wanting to tell her the same thing.
"I'm going and there's nothing you can do to stop me."
"Em-" Peter started.
"What? Because I'm a girl, I can't defend myself?"
"What? No, that's not-"
"Peter, I am part wolf, I think I can handle myself," Y/n said, standing up and leaving. Peter looked at Susan as if to say 'what do I do?' Susan, however, simply smirked, rolling her eyes, and shaking her head at the two.
.....
The defeated Narnians walked slowly back to the others.
"What happened?" Lucy asked, motioning to a nearly dead Trumpkin who was being carried by Edmund.
She rushed toward him, pouring a few drops from her cordial in his mouth.
He sat up, "What're you all starin' at?" He asked. Everyone smiled, thankful that he was alright.
"Where's Y/n?" Lucy asked, fear prominent on her face.
Y/n stepped forward with a bloody arm.
"Right here," she sighed.
"What-" Lucy began.
"I'm fine, just nicked it," Y/n said with a strained smile.
"Come 'ere," Lucy said. Y/n stepped forward, crouching so that Lucy could give her a drop from the cordial.
"Thanks," Y/n said, standing up, her arm already feeling better. She began walking toward the girls' tent.
"Where're you going?" Peter asked, worry still evident in his voice.
"To change, my dress is still bloody." She motioned to her sleeve.
Peter nodded and she continued walking. She smiled to herself, finally believing what Susan had said about him caring for her.
.....
Y/n, Edmund, Glenstorm, and Wimbleweather hiked toward the Telmarines' camp, bearing news for Miraz.
When they reached the camp, they were guided to Miraz's tent, where Edmund read a letter from Peter.
"I, Peter, by the gift of Aslan, by election and by conquest, High King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel, and Emperor of the Lone Islands, in order to prevent the abominable effusion of blood, do hereby challenge the usurper Miraz to single combat upon the field of battle. The fight shall be to the death. The reward shall be total surrender."
Y/n bit her lip at that last part. She knew it was for the best, but still, she couldn't help but worry.
"Tell me, Prince Edmund-" Miraz started.
"King." Edmund corrected, cutting him off.
"Pardon me?"
"It's 'King Edmund' actually. Just king though, Peter's the High King."
"What, and I suppose you're Queen Y/n?" He scoffed.
"Yes," she nodded.
"I know, it's confusing," Edmund said.
"Queen Y/n the Beautiful," a soldier stepped forward. "You really do live up to your name." He raised his hand to her chin, turning her head towards him. Edmund drew his sword and the soldier stepped back. Y/n gulped, but couldn't help an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach. She stepped away from the soldier. Miraz rolled his eyes at the Telmarine.
"Why would we risk such a proposal when our armies could wipe you out by nightfall?"
"Haven't you already underestimated our numbers?" Y/n asked, stepping forward, "I mean, only a week ago, Narnians were extinct."
"And so you will be again," came Miraz's snarky reply.
"Then you should have little to fear," Y/n smirked. Miraz laughed.
"This is not a question of bravery."
"So you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age?" Edmund asked. Miraz paused, leaning forward.
"I didn't say I refused."
"You shall have our support, your majesty," one man began, "whatever your decision."
"Sire," came another," our military advantage alone provides the perfect excuse to avoid what might otherwise be..."
"I'm not avoiding anything!" Miraz stood up, drawing his sword.
"I was merely pointing out that my lord is well within his rights to refuse." The man defended.
"His Majesty would never refuse." A man said from behind Y/n and Edmund, "He relishes the chance to show the people the courage of their new king."
"You," Miraz pointed his sword at Edmund, "You should hope your brother's sword is sharper than his pen." He said, causing Y/n to gulp.
.....
Edmund helped Peter put his armor on.
"You need to tell her," Edmund encouraged his older brother.
"I know, I just-" Peter began but stopped himself as Y/n walked in.
"I'm going to go find Caspian," Edmund smirked at Peter.
"I have something important to tell you," Peter said.
"Tell me when you get back safe and sound," she said, kissing him on the cheek.
.....
Y/n stood with the archers, watching the sword fight from afar. She saw Miraz step on Peter's shield and even she winced, 'that's gotta hurt' she thought.
She saw Caspian and Susan on a horse.
"Lucy!" she gasped, fearing the worst. She ran down to where the battle was taking place. As she got there, she noticed there was a small break.
Edmund grabbed Peter's helmet for him and helped him over to Susan, Caspian, and Y/n.
"Lucy?" Peter froze.
"She got through... with a little help," Susan said, looking to Caspian.
"Thanks," Peter panted.
"Well, you were busy."
"You'd better get up there, just in case. I don't expect the Telmarines will keep their word." The group looked back to where Miraz was sitting.
Susan stepped forward and gave Peter a hug, in the process, though, she touched his hurt arm.
"Sorry," she said as he winced.
"It's all right."
"Be careful." She said.
"Keep smiling," Edmund said, looking back to the Narnians. Susan rushed back to the archers and Peter gave the Narnians a large smile. Y/n was about to follow Susan when Peter called her name.
"Y/n?" He asked.
"Yes?" she said turning around. However, when she did so, she was met with a pair of lips on hers. Peter pulled away.
"I love you." He said, fearing he wouldn't have a chance to say it again.
"I- I love you too." She said, before running off after Susan.
Caspian helped Peter take his shield off and Peter sat down.
"I think it's dislocated," Peter informed his brother. He looked back to Miraz, "What d'you think happens back home if we die here?" Edmund stayed silent, grabbing Peter's injured arm.
"You know you've always been there, and I've never really-" he started, but cut himself short when Edmund popped his arm back into place.
"Save it for later," Edmund stated simply.
Caspian handed Peter his shield while Edmund gave him his sword and the battle was back on.
Susan and Y/n looked fearfully at each other. The two couldn't clearly see what was going on, but they knew it wasn't good. After a few minutes, Miraz was on the ground. A few words were exchanged and Peter began walking away. Miraz grabbed a sword when Peter's back was turned, and he stood back up, about to attack Peter from behind.
"Look out!" Edmund yelled. Peter jumped into action, spinning around, taking the sword from him and stabbing the Telmarine king.
Miraz fell to his knees and Peter hesitated in killing him.
"What's the matter, boy? Too cowardly to take a life?" Peter lowered his sword.
"It's not mine to take," He turned, holding the sword out for Caspian, who stepped forward.
"Perhaps I was wrong," Miraz taunted, "Maybe you do have the makings of a Telmarine king after all." He lowered his head, awaiting the blow.
Caspian yelled before stabbing a patch of grass with his sword. Miraz looked up, confused.
"Not one like you," Caspian said, "Keep your life. But I am giving the Narnians back their kingdom." He walked away and the Narnians cheered.
Caspian, Edmund, and Peter looked up to where Susan and Y/n were standing. The girls smiled, both sighing, relieved that it was over. The boys looked back to Miraz, having heard him gasp. He had an arrow in his side. Their faces fell.
"Treachery!" said the Telmarine who had been helping Miraz up, "They shot him! They murdered our king!"
"Be ready!" Peter shouted to the archers (but more specifically to Y/n and Susan).
"Peter!" Caspian called, pointing out to him a Telmarine who, like Miraz, was about to attack him from behind.
There was a lot of commotion and the Telmarines fired their catapults. The Narnians didn't yet attack.
The Telmarines rushed toward their enemy.
"Archers to the ready!" Susan called. Everyone grabbed an arrow, preparing themselves for that which was about to happen.
Caspian and Glenstorm ran to the underground cave-like area where the rest of the centaurs and animals were.
"Narnians," Caspian called, turning around, "Charge!"
"Take your aim!" Susan shouted, all of the archers following suit.
"Stay with them!" shouted Trumpkin.
"Get ready!" shouted Peter.
"Now!" Caspian shouted, still underground.
Those with him began swinging at the column-like figures, causing the ground beneath the Telmarines to split.
"Now!" shouted Susan, releasing an arrow. All of the arrows flew and it was almost calm for a split-second before the arrows met their targets.
"Charge!" called Peter. The Narnians were all around the Telmarines, well, one army of them. However, there were still many armies that continued to advance.
Y/n saw Peter freeze. He looked up, his lips forming the name of his youngest sister. Susan shook her head.
"Brace yourselves!" Y/n shouted as boulders shot through the sky at them.
Susan fell, Trumpkin grabbing her hand, but struggling to hold her up. She fell, not far, though, and landed on what was left of the collapsed archway of Aslan's How. Y/n jumped down to join her and the two ran to meet Peter, Caspian, and Edmund. The five silently nodded at each other before running forward. Y/n switched into her wolf form, figuring it would be easier to run into battle as a wolf, rather than a girl in a dress.
She neared a Telmarine and quickly shifted back into human form.
"You're a girl!" he exclaimed, shocked at her change in appearance.
"Really? I hadn't noticed." Y/n rolled her eyes, drawing her sword.
.....
Y/n heard a roar come from the woods. The young queen smiled to herself, knowing that Lucy had found Aslan.
"The trees!" She shouted, running toward Peter. He looked around, noticing the trees had come back to life. He smiled and kissed her cheek before running to help Caspian out of the ditch he had fallen into.
"Lucy," Peter said, proud of his sister.
The trees' roots began taking out the catapults.
"For Aslan!" Peter shouted and the Narnians rushed forward once more.
The Telmarines ran to the river called Beruna and the Narnians followed. However, when the Telmarines arrived, they froze seeing a young girl, Lucy, on the other side of their bridge. They turned around, only to see the Narnians already behind them.
Lucy smirked and drew her dagger. The Telmarines looked to the Narnians, then back to Lucy. However, when they looked at Lucy, they saw another figure.
"Aslan!" Y/n gasped.
"Charge!" a Telmarine shouted and the others ran towards Lucy and Aslan.
Aslan roared and the Telmarines stopped. The water began to ripple and the Telmarines looked upstream, where they saw a huge wave approaching. The soldiers went running back to the dry land, but they were too late. The water took the form of a man and lifted up the bridge before breaking it with his head.
The Telmarines were defeated. They went back to shore, dropping their weapons as they went.
Peter, Y/n, Susan, Edmund, and Caspian walked through the, now shallow, river. They approached Aslan, bowing before him.
"Rise, Kings and Queens of Narnia," Aslan said. Peter, Y/n, Susan, and Edmund rose. Caspian stayed put.
"All of you," Aslan said. Caspian looked up, confused.
"I do not think I am ready," he admitted.
"It is for that very reason I know that you are." Caspian stood up slowly.
.....
Narnians and Telmarines alike cheered as the Kings and Queens of Narnia paraded on horses through the streets.
Peter and Y/n smiled at each other, happy to be safe at last.
.....
The next day, Aslan, Peter, and Susan, walked together around the castle grounds, deep in conversation. Caspian and Y/n walked together to tell the trio some news.
Caspian paused, not wanting to interrupt. Susan gave him a sad look. Peter gave Y/n the same.
"Your majesties?" Aslan asked.
"We are ready. Everyone has assembled." Caspian said.
.....
"Narnia belongs to the Narnians, just as it does to a man." Caspian announced, "Any Telmarines who want to stay and live in peace are welcome to, but for any of you who wish, Aslan will return you to the home of our forefathers."
"It's been generations since we left Telmar," a man from the audience said.
"We're not referring to Telmar," Aslan started, "Your ancestors were seafaring brigands. Pirates run aground on an island. There they found a cave, a rare chasm that brought them from their world. The same world as our kings and queens." He looked toward the four Pevensies, "It is to that island I can return you. It is a good place for any who wish to make a new start."
"I will go." A man from the audience said. He was high up in the army, and therefore close to Miraz. He did not wish for that to be held against him, "I will accept the offer."
"So will we," said Miraz's wife.
"Because you have spoken first, your future in that world shall be good," Aslan informed them.
A tree began to untwist and there were some gasps heard among the crowd. There was now an opening in the tree, which the small group began to go through. They disappeared, having gone through the portal.
"How do we know he is not leading us to our death?" A man shouted from the audience.
"Sire," Reepicheep began, "if my example can be of any service, I will take 11 mice through with no delay."
Susan and Peter looked at each other.
"We will go," Peter said, stepping forward.
"We will?" Edmund asked.
"Come on, our time's up. After all," he walked toward Caspian, "we're not really needed here anymore." He handed Caspian his sword.
"I will look after it until you return," Caspian said, taking it from him.
"I'm afraid that's just it," Susan began, "We're not coming back."
"We're not?" Lucy asked.
"You two are." Peter said, "At least, I think he means you two."
"But why?" Lucy asked Aslan. "Did they do something wrong?"
"Quite the opposite, dear one. But all things have their time. Your brother and sister have learned what they can from this world. Now it's time for them to live in their own."
"It's all right, Lu. It's not how I thought it would be, but it's all right. One day you'll see, too. Come on."
"Aslan?" Y/n spoke up, however, only to Aslan. "Would it be alright if I went with them this time?" Aslan nodded, explaining to her that she would not be able to shift forms in their world.
"It's worth it." She said.
"I think you mean 'he' is worth it." Aslan smiled.
Y/n waited for the Pevensies to come to say goodbye to her before telling them.
Peter approached her first, Susan still saying goodbye to Caspian.
"I- I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." Peter looked down.
"What? That you loved me or that you were leaving?" Y/n asked.
"Both." He admitted.
"Well, it's alright." She began, "Because I'm coming with you."
"What?" He asked, finally meeting her eyes. He looked to Aslan, who simply nodded.
"You can't get rid of me that easily." She said before Peter pulled her in for a kiss.
"I'm sure when I'm older I'll understand," Lucy said to Edmund, referring to Susan kissing Caspian and Peter kissing Y/n.
"I am older and I don't think I want to understand," Edmund replied.
Y/n and Peter walked over to them, hand in hand.
"I guess this is goodbye then," Lucy said, looking up at Y/n.
"Nope." She smiled.
The five walked through the tree and into the train station where they had left. All, including Y/n, in their school uniforms.
"I guess it's time for a new adventure, huh?" Y/n smiled at Peter.

so going through everything Ben Barnes has starred in and I've watched the two Narnia movies i missed. Prince Caspian is absolutely adorable and I get the generational crush thing now. I saw the first movie when it came out and i was very meh about it. Also I remember watching the trailer for Prince Caspian after that and being like 'oh that character is obviously there to be attractive to girls, that's lame, I won't watch it!!!!' because i was in my 'not like other girls' phase, which, in hindsight, is hilarious. i guess the Ben Barnes charm gets to you whether you want it or not (Garfield 'you are not immune' meme)
also the sense of whimsy in these movies is really fun. fantasy has gotten SO self serious and grim, and that can be cool but...I still miss the whimsy a bit. even though the effects have aged badly and the characters are cardboard, it's still very entertaining. I saw critics say that Voyage of the Dawn Treader was a complete dud but I still found it entertaining maybe because i think the plot of 'found family goes on wacky adventures from island to island' should be more of a thing. (That sea snake centipede thing was genuinely one of the most horrible things i've ever seen though. my god i want brain bleach.) and there are random moments that are oddly impacting, like them coming back to Narnia and realizing 1300 years have passed, or having to adjust to normal life again as a metaphor for young people coming back from the war, or Lucy learning to accept how she looks as a way not to wish herself away.
that said it also reminded me i haaaaaaaate Narnia as a concept. maybe because i grew up on Tolkien and Philip Pullman who have both said very unflattering things about CS Lewis' writing and i took that sort of literary feuding very seriously back in the days. And yeah it's just such blatant, boring, in your face Christian allegory it makes the story utterly devoid of stakes because the characters are expect to trust random nudges without reason and you just know Aslan is coming to save the day in the end. except that wack ass lion was just sitting in the forest while people were dying in battle because he was waiting for Lucy to have a personal development moment and come to Jesus. That's not faith, that's emotional blackmail. this is why if god existed, i would want to kill him. also the whole outlook of 'bunch of white kids coming into a distant land and being handed the reigns of power because they're just so morally superior' is like. bad. no matter how you look at it. plus i'm still mad about the Problem of Susan.
so like. fun, if you turn your brain aaaaaallllll the way off.

as  a  coronation  gift  marking  the  beginning  of  peter’s  reign     in the golden age ,     a handbound tome of narnian fairy tales was given to him by mr .   tumnus .     most of the stories that the faun had very kindly   &   painstakingly compiled for him between the covers ,     of course ,     had been woven from allegorical sentiments and were not to be interpreted as literal truth - tellers of narnia’s 1000 - year history ,     but a great many number of the tales appeared to explain the customs and culture that peter gradually began to see in the world around him .
some of these ,     of course ,     included the origins of the bulgy bears’ right to serve as a marshal of the lists during duels   ( and the rights of many other animals in court ,     politics ,     or celebration )  ,     as well as the expected way in which to herald the first blooms of spring ,     the most auspicious time of the lunar cycle to seek advice from the centaurs ,     how to predict bacchus’ supposedly spontaneous arrivals ,   &   the enduring magic of the stone table .     perhaps ,     a particularly discerning reader could even unearth a number of subtle references to the fact that peter’s name had always been written into the deep magic ,      and how the land would one day live within him ;     though he was just as unlikely to acknowledge this on paper as he would speak it into existence .
particularly in his first several years as high king ,     peter kept the book close to his side as one of several ways in which to validate ,     understand ,     and guide his choices in the world around him ,     and by the final years of his reign ,     any unsuspecting reader     -     supposing that peter was so inclined to let anyone else bear witness to this piece of his soul     -     would have been hard - pressed to find a line that had not been lovingly circled   &   annotated with a comment or association in his bid to connect with his kingdom ,     or even just underlined ,     as if the sentiment had thrown him into a thought that he could not quite articulate on the page .
by the time that peter the high king left cair paravel for the last time in the year 1015 ,     rhindon in hand ,     he’d long ago recognised that he had no need for the tome anymore     -     never again would he forget a single word within its pages     -     and instead ,     he gave it a new home among his most prized possessions within the castle’s treasury .     for the next 1300 years ,     it would remain untouched beneath the battle - torn earth ,     lying in wait for the next king in need .

On why humans in Narnia are summoned when there is trouble
Tumblr media
The title is too random, sorry
I was reading a fanfic and in the course of it I remembered something that made me think about the moment when I read "the last battle". There's a part where Tirian tells Jill and Eustace that the friends of Narnia are only called upon when the country is in terrible danger and this is where my doubt comes in, if they are supposed to be called only in emergencies. Why didn't Aslan summon the ancient monarchs when the Telmarines invaded Narnia? Why wait 1300 years to bring them back and return with them?
Tumblr media
It is understandable that some narnians would begin to doubt Aslan's existence if he left them stranded for 1,300 years at the hands of telmarinos.
It's not entirely crazy to me now that in the movie Peter himself will doubt Aslan ever came back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You will say, 'Caspian's birth was expected'. was it so important that Caspian was the savior? I mean, among so many telmarines, at least a few in those 1300 years must have had a noble heart.
I don't know if it was a Lewis thing or what, but I still have a doubt

✦kind queen of narnia - Edmund Pevensie x Reader
Tumblr media
summary: a new prophecy for the narnia’s kingdom. a new member joining the kings and queens. but...who is it?
warnings: cursing
word count: 3,597
a/n: mi first edmund one shot, i’m so happy!
according to the books the ages of the characters should be different, but in this one-shot their ages will be those agreed by wikipedia reasoning with the actors’ age in the year of recording of the second film (it is an approximation):
Peter - 20
Susan - 17
Edmund - 15/16
Lucy - 12
Prince Caspian - 26
narnia, what a place.
anyone from england would look at y/n and the pevensie brothers in horror if they were told about this beautiful world full of fairytale creatures and landscapes.
they would probably be frightened if they were told that all narnians were preparing to face the telmarines; it would be their second battle in defence of their beloved lands.
they would also worry if they were told that there were prophecies dictating the fate of the teenagers.
the pevensies had been in narnia for a long time. they had grown up and reached adulthood there while time in england had barely passed. their first visit to the dream place had been when edmund was just ten years old and as the prophecy dictated he had betrayed his brother and sisters and then recomposed himself to follow the right path as a faithful ruler of narnia and become king edmund, the just.
when edmund was twenty years old in the narnian world, a gryphon passed over him and dropped a neatly rolled papyrus.
when his time on this earth comes to an end
a damsel with the purity of water and the sweetness of honey will get her start
if you listen well, attachment will flourish
if you listen badly, there will be pain
she is made to avoid pain in all
she is made to bring back peace
that doesn't even rhyme, he thought, and it doesn't make sense either.
even though the prophecy that had just arrived at his whereabouts was revealed to his brother and sisters, none of them understood, what girl was it talking about?
everything took on colour, when a thin figure collapsed against lucy at the train station.
"oh no! i'm so sorry, sweetheart" a girl of about sixteen years of age, apologized sincerely to the little girl who had been moved abruptly by the teenage girl's body. "i thought i was missing my train and i got terribly scared" the y/h/c outlined a sweet smile.
"there is no reason to apologise, we all make mistakes...my name is lucy and these are my brothers and my sister" the little girl stretched out her hand to shake it with y/n’s, while the other pointed behind her to three teenagers in uniform.
a pretty girl with striking eyes introduced herself as susan, while another slim blond boy said his name was peter. the third was immersed in his search for the train's arrival time, so he did not notice the conversation in front of him, the signs on the station walls  seemed to be more interesting. "he is edmund...sorry he is half a fool" as he heard his name, the raven-haired boy looked up to meet a beautiful and delicate girl laughing at the comment his sister had made.
"my name is y/n, it is a pleasure to meet you" her gaze travelled through each member of the family leaving them with a smile; when it was edmund's turn her smile did not come down even though the one he showed her was hasty and if she had not been paying attention she would have missed it.
"where were you about to leave in such a hurry?" peter asked as the five of them move away due to some guards passing at full speed by their side, being all cornered against the wall the best decision they made was to take a seat, side by side, on a bench.
"my parents live in the countryside of england, and because of my school I haven't seen them for a long time so I didn't want to miss my train" y/n explained feeling the look of all the them.
"we were on our way there too! we must visit professor kirke, we haven't seen him for a long time"
that was their first meeting, the first meeting of many. y/n and the pevensies developed the closest and most faithful friendship in the world. they spent all their holidays enjoying the countryside together and when school resumed, they took several trains and walked several blocks just to see each other almost every week.
and although their meetings were frequent edmund did not always seem pleased by her presence. the months passed and although y/n began to develop a crush on the freckle boy he seemed to ignore her every move. even when she bought his favourite sweets to share with everyone or when she would sneak a compliment on his attire on some special occasion. y/n was good at hiding her feelings so only susan knew and she hoped it would stay that way.
it was not until the five of them were waiting for their train to leave for their respective boarding school that the action began.
the train they were to board disappeared and with it the whole station around them, leaving lucy, peter, edmund, susan and y/n standing on a paradise beach.
the brothers began to walk towards the white sand, leaving the cave where they had landed, followed by a shocked y/n
"where are we?” when lucy heard y/n's voice she looked at her sister with a smile and then started to run, getting rid of their school uniforms.
"come on, y/n!" peter shouted as he dipped his feet into the clear water.
she did not resist and followed her friends, leaving a few clothes to play in the water.
edmund saw her laughing, with her wet hair, in the sun and remembered how in love he was with the girl he ignored so much.
"what is it?" asked peter as he saw his brother stop having fun; edmund couldn't admit that the sight of y/n had knocked him out so he had to improvise.
"where do you suppose that we are?
"it's pretty obvious, isn't it? we are in narnia” by this time, the girls had stopped their water fight and were paying attention to the boys.
"well...i don't remember any ruins in narnia”
"narnia?! you must be joking?!" y/n exclaimed.
"yes, narnia" peter said, looking at her as if nothing was happening.
"but...narnia...the narnia you told me as a story from when you were children?"
"they are not stories..."
with that, the brothers began to tour the meadows where, 1300 years ago, cair paravel was located. where now only ruins remained of what had been their home.
the surprise of y/n was not erased and even less so when they found the prophecy that dictated their destiny.
"edmund! this was the prophecy that appeared to you” susan was right but edmund did not want y/n to know that for some magical reason the prophecy had come to HIS hands.
"what? a prophecy about me?" y/n posed her body next to peter who had the paper in his hands.
"no one enters narnia without a purpose" the little pevensie sister explained.
"there is no way i can be this girl! i have no talent, i am not so-"
peter interrupted her by placing his hands on the girl's thin shoulders.
"you may think so, but narnia and its magic is more powerful than ourselves and our supposed abilities"
edmund had to swallow hard not to go and take the girl from his brother's arms. he had no right to take her away. edmund did not know how to approach her so their contact was minimal, to the misfortune of both of them.
those days continued peacefully and then chaos erupted throughout the kingdom.
aslan disappeared and newcomer caspian caused maximum tension.
although the pevensie, caspian, and trumpkin had taken it upon themselves to make her aware of what was going on around her, she was still afraid. she had many people trusting her actions and that they would return the peace.
she had always been a leader and narnia was no exception. y/n was equal to peter and caspian in decision making as she was cunning and quick in making decisions but when it came to attacking came her weakness. there was no feeling inside her body that would leave her conscience clear if she killed or injured any human or creature.
although edmund kept his countenance neutral when it came to her, his heart melted whenever she mentioned her lack of courage to hold a weapon and go on the attack.
"y/n, you coming?" caspian turned on his axis before leaving for the battle on the castle of miraz.
"i can help with maps, plans and strategies but with this...i can't, sorry”
edmund had heard several creatures criticize the girl's lack of courage to confront a hand-to-hand fight; and he could not help but think that he maybe was disappointed by her attitude too.
"why is she here if she can't even pick up a weapon, of any kind, without shaking?" the freckled boy would adjust his armor before going into battle.
"don't be mean, edmund. she is too good to go out and kill someone" his older sister tried to talk some sense into him, especially because before edmund entered the room where susan was, y/n had retired just a few seconds before but susan knew that she was not far enough not to hear their conversation; and hear the boy who she liked talk so badly about her would not be a nice moment.
"or she's too much of a coward" was a fact, y/n was listening to the whole conversation, as she felt her heart breaking.
"if she bothers you so much that she doesn't fight, show her. you are the best at using the sword in combat in all of narnia"
"I won't" at the end of the day he wasn't so brave after all.
now it was y/n who ignored him. whether in meetings or in their free time, she did not even give him a glance and he noticed. because edmund was very attentive to what she was doing or not doing, so it was not difficult for him to see her practicing with prince caspian her fighting, on the beach, more than one afternoon while he went for his walks.
it hurt him but he knew that her distancing was his fault.
caspian did not question the reason for the girl's drastic change, he only offered to help her and she accepted.
they spent hours covered in sweat and sand but she did not seem to mind, she wanted to prove a point to edmund and herself. her days were divided into training, alone or with others, and creating plans and strategies. her rest was almost non-existent and her tired figure was beginning to show. her breakfasts were short and quick like any other meal of the day. she ate with her head down and conversed with anyone but edmund.
one cool night edmund tried to sleep in his large room but the sound of a sword moving and colliding with a shield prevented him from doing so. from the high window it was impossible for him to decipher where it came from but he assumed that it meant no danger as none of the guards seemed alert; but he still descended in search of the owner of the sound.
when he entered the courtyard below his room he saw her. covered in sweat and with her sword in her hand as she moved abruptly against an armament tied to a tree. edmund found y/n’s invention very ingenious and was even more surprised to see her move almost perfectly, it seemed almost natural to her.
"what are you doing here at this hour?" after minutes of watching her from a few meters away, the younger pevensie brother approached.
"I could ask you the same thing" y/n did not even move her eyes, she just approached the tree to accommodate the armor tied with leather.
"I was trying to sleep but an unbearable noise woke me up, Ijust wanted to know who was causing it...now I know"
“I didn't know it was so annoying" edmund still couldn't see her face.'' I'll stop now..."
gently, despite being preparing to go out and kill men and creatures, she put her sword in its compartment hanging from her hip, and then dried her face with a wet piece of cloth.
"why are you doing this anyway?"
"some people don't believe me strong enough to fulfill the prophecy...they think I'm a coward" y/n looked into his eyes for the first time and edmund understood what she meant.
"you should stop. you look exhausted, besides I didn't-"
"keep it to yourself..." already when she had passed the freckle boy's body petrified in the garden, y/n continue "and it seems that it is never enough, so yes. if I need to keep practicing"
edmund knew that she was absolutely right. before she started her daily combat lessons, she gave everything she had from what she could. she had taken risks and was adapting to being the future queen of a place, which until a while ago, was completely unknown for her.
y/n would not admit it but that night she cried like never before. she did not know exactly if it was tiredness, confusion, sadness or that she was heartbroken. but whatever the right choice was, that night she fainted in a tearful dream without managing to take off her sweaty clothes.
the next morning she appeared at breakfast as if nothing had happened. clean and unpolluted in a freshly washed and ironed dress that accentuated every attribute she had. lucy had heard her crying and was dying to ask what was so terrifying that made her cry like that, but seeing her serious countenance when y/n saw her brother sitting at the table, despite her young age, lucy easily put it together.
after preventing jadis, the white witch, return to narnia. caspian and his allies had no choice but to confront the troops of miraz in front of the altozano. meanwhile, lucy and susan were leaving in search of aslan. y/n did not go with them. she remained at the site of the battle.
when everyone was out ready to fight, so was she. edmund had seen her keep medical supplies anywhere in the armour she found space with the intention of helping any wounded being she might encounter. he felt extremely guilty; she did not want to be there and should not have been. she could have quietly stayed in the shelter ready to help anyone who came looking for a hand but he had pressed her with words he did not even feel.
to gain time the camp became a personal battle between peter and miraz. both begin to fight to the death. both armies gathered around the stone platform where the two men were fighting hand to hand. edmund looked at y/n who was standing next to a centaur with her perfectly placed weaponry; her serious countenance hid any doubt or fear that her brain was processing.
although the elder pevensie managed to have a dying miraz in front of him, peter did not kill him.
"you are too much of a coward to take a life, king peter?" miraz, despite being on his knees almost dead, kept on fighting.
"it's not mine to take"
with that said, the blond man stepped back to give the sword to y/n; who looked at them perplexed. she understood that she must do so to fulfill the prophecy. she had all eyes on her and her trembling hands that took the sword and stood before the wounded man.
edmund saw tears welling up in her beautiful eyes as she looked down at miraz. y/n placed the tip of the sword on the man's neck with her chest rising and falling violently.
the freckled boy wanted to run towards her to hug and kiss all her nerves and fears away but he couldn't.
as the seconds passed and the girl did not move from her place, a laugh was heard in the telmarine’s army and that was the limit.
edmund gently approached the girl and placed his hands on top of the sword taking it out of her hands
"let go, it's okay" he whispered as, with the help of his hands, he pushed her back to where she was before.
by that point the tears had already come out of her eyes and at that moment she felt like a real coward. she felt the disappointed looks despite her head being down and the tall stature of edmund in front of her limiting her view.
"stupid girl, this is not the girl of the prophecy! she is just an idio-"
when edmund wanted to turn around and finish the work that peter had started, an arrow pierced miraz’s chest and chaos began.
despite her blurred vision, y/n remained on the battlefield. she had escaped from edmund's side when the war cries were first heard.
although she did not use her sword she was fast enough to escape the attacks and manage to help those wounded in the meadows.
the two armies were facing each other in battle and when the narnians were about to lose, lucy found aslan. the lion awakened the narnian trees, allowing them to come to the aid of the narnian army.
amidst the screams and sounds of colliding swords, aslan called out to the water god, who drowns much of the telmarine army.
and the war is over.
in the midst of the destruction, everyone begins to celebrate with smiles on their faces despite the large number of narnians lost in battle, there was cause for celebration.
the pevensies had met aslan and on the seashore, they were enjoying a good chat.
"where is y/n y/l?" asked aslan curiously "she fulfilled the prophecy perfectly"
"but she was not who killed miraz, it was caspian who had to see the kingdom free" trumpkin seemed upset and the desire to kick his little figure flourished in edmund.
"you don't need to kill someone to restore peace and help your people"
with that said, edmund began to look for her with his eyes...and found her. sitting on a stone, passing a natural ointment on a faun’s arm.
at that moment the boy understood that y/n should not learn to fight and use weapons to save narnia. with her kindness, intelligence and healing skills it was more than enough. he wanted to tell her. he wanted to tell her what an idiot he had been in wanting to force her to do something she was not even meant to do.
without saying a word edmund ran off in her direction.
when y/n saw him quickly approaching her, she stood up from her place and watched him as he arrived and took her arm to walk into the forest.
"I know what you are going to say and I am sorry..." as soon as the boy slowed down his pace the two faced each other in the middle of the forest lighted by rays of sunshine piercing the tree leaves. they were less than a metre away and yet edmund wanted to be even closer "I know you are disappointed in me, I know you all are... but i could not, ok?! I just could not! I cannot be queen of narnia with this attitude, I did not make it. I did not fulfill the prophecy and now-"
edmund took his face with both hands and brought it close to him, silencing her hasty and nervous speech; in less than a second both were immersed in a deep kiss that y/n took a few seconds to reciprocate due to her surprise. her hands travelled to his chest covered by the narnian battle uniform as his hands caress her cheeks softly.
the kiss was quick but sweet, as if they were frustrated romantics who had not been able to kiss each other for centuries.
when the kiss broke both chests went up and down as if they had finished running a marathon, but despite this they could not let go. now edmund's arms were wrapped around her and her arms caressed his neck as they looked at each other.
"you saved narnia without the need to kill anyone, you earned narnia without using force if not kindness"
"you're not disappointed?" a slight surprise occupied the boy’s body.
"all your training and you coming out to fight today, was because of me?"
"I just...just wanted to be enough for you" y/n was sincere, there was no need to lie.
"the conversation you heard between susan and me was a mistake, I would never be disappointed in you and you are far, far away from being a coward and you proved that from the minute you set foot in this kingdom"
she rested her forehead on his as a response.
"I am so in love with you" he sighed realizing the chill that ran through the girl's body.
"today is your lucky day king edmund, because i am more in love with you" a small laugh broke out from both of them.
"impossible"
with that said, they both joined in another kiss. this time a slow one. they had all the time in the world.
after all they were king and queen of narnia, no one could rush them.

“...my God, do you learn.” -C.S Lewis
LILLIAN ELIZABETH PENDRAGON is a descendent of King Frank I and Queen Helen. She is the eldest daughter of George and Vivienne Pendragon, and the older sister of Arabella, Elyse, and William Pendragon.
Lily was heir to the Narnian throne, but grew up in Archenland in isolation with her family, as they were hiding out from the Witch (just as all previous generations of her family had done, waiting for the perfect time to strike her down and restore peace to their homeland). She became High Queen at ten years old when her father mysteriously disappeared and was presumed dead. Two days after her top secret coronation Lily, refusing to believe that her father was dead, went to look for him - only to wind up getting kidnapped by the Witch herself.
She wasn’t alone in confinement, however, as she was soon joined by Edmund Pevensie, one of the four prophets destined to save Narnia who was believed to have betrayed his siblings for the Witch. The two didn’t get along quite well at the beginning, but as time went on and they realized they wouldn’t be able to escape if they didn’t have each other, they soon became friends. After being rescued by Narnian troops, Lily was reunited with her mother and siblings at Aslan’s camp (as was Edmund with his siblings) and later fought in the Battle of Beruna. She attended the Pevensies’ coronation with her family and proudly proclaimed that her family would rule and work with theirs to bring the peace and hope back to Narnia that it had lost so long ago.
Lily remained best friends with Edmund for fifteen years. They were rarely ever apart, and were often seen playing chess together and reading books in her library. The pair went on many diplomatic trips together, and foreign royals and diplomats often said they never saw one without the other. Many assumed they would pursue a romantic relationship, but Lily debunked those theories every chance she got to do so. However, towards the end of the Golden Age, Lily did begin to have feelings for Edmund - feelings she couldn’t quite describe. She refused to see him as anything else other than her best friend, but soon came to a conclusion that she could no longer go on thinking that way. By the time she managed to pluck up the courage to confess to him, it was too late. He and his family had disappeared while hunting for the White Stag.
Understandably so, Lily was devastated, but was determined to find him and the rest of the Pevensies. She had failed to find her father, she didn’t want to fail finding them too. She and her family set out to search for them when they arrived at a lamppost and stumbled through woods, wounding up in England, younger than they were before - the same ages they were when the Pevensies first came to Narnia. In England, they were happily reunited with Lily’s father, who mistakenly ventured through the portal when he was thought to have been dead.
The Pendragons spent a year adjusting to life in England. Although it was difficult, Lily also found it quite interesting. She enjoyed learning about society and read just about every book you could ever find, from War and Peace to Little Women and everything in between. Just as she was getting used to living a life without a crown on her head and a country to rule, Lily and her siblings (her parents were considered too old to go to Narnia at this point) were transported to Narnia once more. They discovered that 1300 years had passed since they left, and all of their friends had died. They did, however, reunite with the Pevensies, who were also called back. Together, they helped Prince Caspian reclaim his throne, but it wasn’t without consequences. Arabella had died in the raid on Miraz’ castle, leaving her three remaining siblings devastated.
The three were called back to Narnia again one year later, where they reunited with Edmund, Lucy, and Caspian aboard the Dawn Treader. They helped find the Seven Lost Lords and defeat the evil lurking within the waters of Narnia. This would be their last time in their homeland. Once they returned to England, they initially had difficulty accepting the fact that they wouldn’t ever go back to Narnia, especially Lily.
When Lily and Edmund were both seventeen, they finally ripped the bandaid off and pursued a romantic relationship (absolutely no one was surprised). Lily had always been interested in becoming a journalist ever since she arrived in England, as she loved the idea of telling stories and informing the public of serious issues that needed attention. She decided to study it at University when she turned eighteen.
Lily, along with her family and most of the Pevensies, was killed in a railway accident in 1949 at the age of nineteen. They all lived an eternal afterlife in Aslan’s Country, where the Pendragons were reunited with the daughter and sister they lost what seemed to be many years ago - Arabella.
A somewhat happy ending for a Queen who, when she was young, never truly believed she would ever be happy at all. Then again, of course, life (and death) had always seemed to take Lillian Elizabeth Pendragon by surprise.

If I were one of the kids who went to Narnia I'd need some very serious therapy! I literally could NOT handle never getting to see people/animals I'd met again. Even if I knew I was going back I couldn't handle not knowing when. Also the way that 1300 years (?) passed between the first trips for the four.... Absolutely traumatic. Knowing that after the second trip and going "oh, I bet *insert name* is long dead..." after like a month. Terrifying.

when will replying to reply return from the war @starlightandsunshine so the premise for this snippet comes from an idea i had like, ten years ago and actually started writing like two years ago.
essentially, remember that line in the prince caspian movie where susan tells caspian, “it would never have worked anyway. I am 1300 years older than you.”?  the premise is, what if susan actually was 1300 years older than caspian?  what if she never went home, and has been in Narnia all these years, waiting, wondering, hating, leading, etc.
a lot of it is the other three angsting about her being gone, actually.  versus susan angsting about them being gone.

chapter 2 is up! new chapters will be posted weekly on fridays for this. more details on the fic as a whole below the cut
I wrote this fic over the course of two weeks, a little over a year ago, without much thought to really fleshing out much of the details already present in the movie. Rather, I wanted to add in additional details and expand on some personal headcanons and the like. It’s largely canon-compliant, but I do make a few changes. Otherwise, please note that I borrow extensively from the movie script and follow the plot almost entirely.
Also, this fic is chronologically the final part to my once+always series. The only work that has yet to be posted out of this series is the one I’ve yet to finish: a multi-chapter fic focusing on Peter and Nadora (an OC introduced in an earlier work in the series).

My girlfriend asked me to make her a list of works of fantasy and science fiction so should could feel keyed into references when they come up in conversation. She wanted to feel more grounded in these genres, which she likes, but hasnt made the effort to be on top of everything.
I was happy to compile the most important names, but told her it couldn’t be a short list because recognizing the works of today means honoring their origins, which goes way back into our past.
What’s below is my best effort to include what I assess to be the most culturally relevant becoming, tempering my favorites, and trying to keep it from being totally overwhelming. I’ve left off works from the past five to ten years because it can take a span of time before we're aware the effects new ideas may have. Felt like sharing here in case you or your friends want a crash course on the bedrock of our imagined landscape. I do try to be globally aware, however this list will reflect my bias as a white, straight, male who grew up in the States. And as this is an ongoing conversation between her and myself, I wanted to be able to vouch for the contents.
