Ford's Piquette Plant Celebrates The 115th Birthday Of The Model T - Barry Kluczyk @Hemmings
It was Sept. 27, 1908 that Henry Ford changed the world, when the first Model T rolled out of the factory.
Production started modestly at Ford’s Piquette Avenue Plant, with only 11 vehicles reportedly produced in the first month. Demand quickly outstripped the capacity of the comparatively small factory and by 1910, Ford had built and moved production to the mammoth Highland Park factory 3 miles…
2001 really was the year of Mies van der Rohe: on the occasion of his 115th birthday the exhibitions „Mies in Berlin“ at the MoMA and „Mies van der Rohe in America“ at the Whitney Museum offered an unprecedented overview of the architect’s two major career stages. The latter exhibition was accompanied by a hefty catalogue that contains a number of valuable essays about Mies’ life and career in America. One is Phyllis Lambert’s lengthy overview of the development of Mies’ architecture in America in which she breaks down typologies, motifs and details and provides interesting insights into his different corner solutions in particular. Two other essays by Cammie McAtee and Vivian Endicott Barnett address Mies’ first and tentative visit to the US and the architect’s own art collection which included works by Klee, Kandinsky and Schwitters.
Probably the most interesting contribution is by Sarah Whiting who examines the urbanist aspects of Mies’ IIT plannings: in so doing she not only provides social and political context to Mies’ most comprehensive project but also extensively discusses the relationship between mass and space in his work in the US.
What is still puzzling about the book is the choice of illustrations: while the IIT appears in plenty of illustrations other projects barely appear at all, a letdown in comparison to the excellent research presented in the book.
Nevertheless, the book is a must-read about Mies van der Rohe that despite its title also exposes the continuities between his German and American work. Essential reading!

"Gradually one falls apart as one gets older, and that is a bore. A lot of my friends are destroyed by being older; they just think too much about it. There's no use thinking about it because it's not going to change. So face the fact.” - KH (McCalls, December 1992) Happy heavenly 115th birthday to our absolute legend - We love and thank you for what you have brought to the world, filling our hearts with such joy. I'm a pattern seer, but I try really hard not to get too drawn into it because I can & will lose my mind.
'Monk' was put on UK Netflix a few weeks ago & I've been watching it.
On the 3rd of April, I went to watch the next episode & it was:
Which threw me, what an unfortunate coincidence that the next episode waiting for me was about an earthquake meer hours after a huge one hit Taiwan. But I tried not to get too freaked out by the coincidence & move on.
Yesterday I watched:
Which is about a man who is murdered hours before his 115th birthday. Then I was searching for odd/weird news earlier (due to Joe Lycett) & saw this news story:
And then just now I was playing all my 'worlde' type variants & played PopCultured & one of today's clues is:
A lot weird, a lot bigger coincidence, still tried to ignore it.
So I'm going to sit very still & try not to spiral until someone else is awake in my house. (I did get today's PopCultered in 1 though so that's nice)
