summary: despite being half elf, the mortal man of gondor becomes a necessity in your life to keep you away from harm.

warnings: black cat/golden retriever pairing, 10th walker reader.

You were sure this was how you'd die. Embarassingly hanging from a tree branch, your pinkie finger holding on to it with all it's strength, an apple bitten in your mouth like a monkey that never learned how to swing.

Your thoughts cuts off violently as your finger finally slips.

Screaming through the apple, your eyes press close as you swoosh down from the large tree, expecting a hard landing that would probably cost you a cracked skull or a broken spine. You heart felt as of it it had jumped out of your body when you finally stop falling. Your body being caught by the familiar arms of your friend instead of the hard ground of grass.

One of your arms instinctively wrap around Boromir's neck while you chomp down on your apple and caught it with your free hand.

"Oh Boromir!" You gratefully sang out, mouth still full of the apple. He had his repetitive frown engraved on his face as he glare daggers at you. "You never learn, do you halfling?" He asks sternly, though you knew he was teasing. You hummed as a response and shook your head at him, continue your apple eating as he walks faster with you in his arms, trying to catch up with the rest of the fellowship.

When you're done eating, you gently slide off him, his hand however remaining at the small of your back in a protective manner as the both of you finally gets closer your companies.

When the fellowship has come to a stop, it was understood that you would all be resting for the night, you look up towards the darkening sky as Boromir walks away to help gather wood for the fire, stealing glances at you from the corner of his eyes.

You were standing at a distance from the hobbits, face glaring up, eyes focused on the faint outlines of the stars that were already showing. He slips up a small smile before snapping his attention back to the woods, setting the fire up.

Your eyes remain on the sky, watching the clouds moving on as the dark begins to envelope your surroundings. You shut your eyes tightly when a burst of wind flew in your direction, basking in the breeze.

It was nice to have the sun out of the way finally, you were sure that if falling down a tree wouldn't kill you, the heat would've.

But now that night has come, the air starts to chill and the fire's enough for warmth.

You don't flinch when you felt Boromir's hand on your shoulder, already hearing his footsteps nearing you seconds ago.

"Will you eat some food the hobbits' brought or will you start perambulating around the forest again until you go missing." His deep voice, though clearly a jest, still sends a shiver down your spine.

You snap your eyes open and looked behind towards him. "I think that apple has quite filled me up for now, and I'm sure the little ones need the energy more than I do."

His face explodes into a grin as he shakes his head before moving his hand from your shoulder to your wrists, pulling you gently with him towards the group to sit down. "Oh do I know that."

You let out a short laugh as you sat down in between him and Gimli. Legolas quirks an eyebrow at you. "What are you two laughing about?" He muses.

"Oh just her inability to behave without adult supervision."

You glared at him with a frown plastered on your face and he doesn't bother to hide how much he doesn't care as he laughs loudly.

Aragorn and Legolas joins in as Gimli makes a quip about how he once found you hanging by your hair from your room's window outside an inn.

"That was one time-" You hissed. "Oh yes I remember that, I had to pull her back up by her hair!" Boromir exclaimed, the memory coming back to him.

The conversation gets worse when the hobbits joined in and Merry and Pippin decides to make a bet on how long you'd be able to survive without getting caught in a tree or disappearing in them.

Aragorn's face was flushed red as he clasp his palms over them, trying to stop laughing. Half of these men were drunk and having the time of their lives bringing up your embarassing moments.

Except Legolas, who was happily leaning againts a tree watching you suffer for their amusement.

"Oh, this isn't fair, what about the time Pippin almost fell into a hole?" You attempted.

"He's a hobbit, holes are his natural habitat anyways, what your excuse halfling." Boromir retorted, earning a smack on his arm from you. "Oh you should be glad everyone's not as boring as you, captain. I'm keeping you busy with my-"

"Impetuous acts? Monkey-like behavior?" He hides a smile when your mouth hangs open, offended.

"I was about to say, productivity."

Gimli snorts, cuddling his sleepy body closer to Legolas, ignorant to your glare at him. Legolas gives you a grin, agreeing with the dwarf.

"Don't worry dove, I quite like being kept busy." He says, leaning closer towards you with his voice lower than earlier.

"Good, because you'll be doing it for quite a while I suspect." You respond with a smirk, the quarrel forgotten.

When his face reaches inches away from you, his breathing, a sound so loud and clear to your pointy ears, you feel your smile slowly disappearing as your heart threatens to jump out your chest.

"Good." He smiles, pecking a kiss on your nose before moving away to lie down and turn his head from your speechless self.

Sam's coming home on the 10th! That's THIS WEDNESDAY! We're having to get the house ready for her since even though she's made absolutely stellar progress with her physical therapy she's still not at 100% and will be on a walker for a bit. We're just focused now on getting the rest of her chemo and physical therapy done so she can be totally cancer-free AND back at full strength.

(That's what's frustrating me on her behalf; the weakness isn't from the chemo, it's from the sedation when she had e. coli. without the e. coli she'd be if not in fighting shape, then at least in Severe Reprimand shape) (not that that's ever stopped Sam from Severely Reprimanding someone if they needed it)

getting her back there means keeping her insurance active. the next $570 payment is due on January 18th. the GFM is sitting at $1078/$17000, which isn't nothing but it's not where we need to be. donating, sharing, boosting, whatever you can do helps tremendously and we appreciate it so much.

Backstory: Her mother was part of a fairly well-off family, but was kicked out and disowned once she got married to a man her parents did not approve of. Only shortly after she found out she was pregnant.

Candice's parents were hard-working people and always tried their best, yet with only her dad working a minimum-wage job because her mother had to take care of her, money was an issue. Her father soon fell back into old habits, stealing, tricking people, shoplifting, etc. Meanwhile, her mum managed to get a job at a strip club - initially only cleaning and helping at the bar, but as she got closer to the other employees, some of the dancers offered to teach her.

Even though her mum wasn't too happy about it, Candice did learn her dad's skills for acquiring other people's possessions and money. Her dad would have tried to keep her away from it as well, but it just was part of their lifestyle, and after she got into trouble for being caught stealing one too many times, he figured it'd be safest to teach her how to do it properly.

When she was around ten, however, her father was sent to prison.

Her mum started looking for another job, but with her not having a degree and being a single mother, chances weren't good. Eventually, one winter, Candice got really sick and her mum couldn't afford her medication, so her only choices were to either give up custody of Candice or... go and ask her family for help.

Against all odds and her expectations, her parents agreed to meet her, to pay for Candice's treatment, and even offered her a job: as a cleaner. She worked at her parent's house until her youngest sister had her third child, then she was sent to help her family. Candice hates seeing her mother work for "those people" because she doesn't even get the small level of respect that the other staff receives. The family makes it known that they only allow her mum to work there because they want to, not because they need it.

And Candice herself they treat like she owes them their life - which, in a way, she might, but the only reason she behaves properly around them is because she doesn't want her mother to be punished.

you are cordially invited to a good ol' fashioned Valentine's Day Hoedown! an event for couples and singles to get together and just have fun and perhaps forget our struggles for a little while. there will be square dancing, line dancing, and swing dancing, as well as some more modern music picks for the young ones.

food and drink will be available, as well as a cake walk, a pie eating contest and jam contest. we will have a haystack for photos, and a caricature artist.

in the spirit of the holiday, we have pre-paired individuals together for the night with matching numbered wristbands. perhaps sparks will fly?

we plan to be out of the dance hall by 5pm, plenty of time to get home before dusk.

Sorry guys, I am away from the computer hosting the rom for my town :(

...I know, I know, I'm sorry Eunice. I still wanted to write a blog post, even if it isn't about my village. Keep reading for some Animal Crossing nerd rambles.

Today, I thought I'd post some facts about the starter villagers currently residing in my town. I don't know everything about them yet, and I'd like to study them and share the information with you. That way, we all can leave with a better understanding of who they are. Also, it'd be fun and give me an excuse to write a blog post.

All of the information is probably from the Animal Crossing Wiki, so thanks to the people over there. Also, most of the info is in relation to their versions from City Folk, as this blog is centered around my City Folk town.

We are going to start with...

1. Pippy

Pippy in English, or ロッタ in Japanese (meaning Lotta), is a peppy rabbit. Pippy, who is peppy!

She's been in the series since どうぶつの森 (Dōbutsu no Mori, or Animal Forest) so she's an OG! She was born June 14th, and her phrase is 'li'l hare.'

Some trivia from the wiki states that her birthday coincided with the European release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which I think is pretty cool.

Also, she wants to be a superhero! How cute :)

2. Bud

Bud in English or グラさん in Japanese (meaning Gura-san, or Gra) has been around since どうぶつの森＋(Dōbutsu no Mori+, or Animal Forest+). He was born August 8th, and his phrase (in City Folk) is "maaan."

He's a little lion guy, with the personality trait of a jock, whose appearance and catchphrase give that of a surfer dude. The interior of his house in City Folk (and several games) is even a beach.

I'm not personally that much of a surfer guy vibe, but he's been pretty nice to me so far, so I do not dislike him. Though, he does need to get rid of the goatee.

3. Rolf

"I could eat you for lunch, you know" - Rolf

Oh Rolf, what is there to say about Rolf? I think that quote says everything there is to say about him. Suffice to say, we have not gotten along very well (even for the two days I've known him.)

Rolf in English or チョモラン in Japanese (Chomoran), is a cranky tiger evil man who was born August 22nd, and has the very fitting catchphrase of "grrrolf." He's been haunting our worlds since どうぶつの森 (Dōbutsu no Mori, or Animal Forest).

This tiger man threatened to beat me up the first time I met him, so I very much do not like him. But hey, maybe (if he's nicer) I'll come around.

4. Tipper

Tipper in English or まきば in Japanese (Makiba) is a snooty cow. She was born on August 25th, and came around in Animal Crossing: Wild World. Her phrase is 'pushy.'

I shockingly do not know a lot about her. I'm not always a fan of snooty villagers, though so far she's been super nice and adorable to me in my town, I hope we get to know each other more. :)

5. Mitzi

Mitzi in English, or マール in Japanese (Māru) is a normal cat who's been around since どうぶつの森 (Dōbutsu no Mori, or Animal Forest).

When I say Mitzi is an OG, I mean she's an OG. She has been on the cover of Animal Crossing...

...she was in an icon for Pocket Camp...

...and was on a screenshot on the back of the City Folk case (which is in relation to the game we are playing!)

Mitzi is so much of an og, she even appears on the cover of K.K Parade, and is in the Animal Crossing themed track for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Suffice it to say, Mitzi has been around the block, and I don't blame Nintendo! She seems to be a bit of a fan favorite. She's been really friendly to me, so I'm a bit of a fan too. :)

Some cool trivia, is that she was also the first girl villager. Amazing!

6. Walker

Walker in English or ベン in Japanese (Ben) is a lazy dog. He first appeared in どうぶつの森ｅ＋(Dōbutsu no Mori e+ or Animal Forest e+). His catchphrase is wuh.

Walker first appeared upon the release of どうぶつの森ｅ＋as an e-Card, which came with the game. Which is pretty cool.

His birthday is June 10th, and he has this really funny quote on his wiki page.

“The dog wags his tail, not for you, but for your bread.” - Walker

Those are all of my starter villagers. Hopefully, this infodump can replace the lack of update today. And, hopefully getting to know my starters can help me get to know them better (and maybe like them more...maybe not with Rolf.)

What I Read in 2022

I read 88 books in 2022. Mostly romance (37) followed by adult science fiction and fantasy (13).

I also read a vast amount of fan-fiction, but I don’t track fic on my reading list (which I’ve kept as a .txt file on various computers since 2006).

Best Romance:

Husband Material by Alexis Hall - a lot of folks hated the ending of this one. No spoilers, but I adored it. The ending was perfectly in character for Luc and Oliver. I’m really looking forward to Hall’s upcoming 10 Things That Never Happened (which features Jonathan, an mildly unpleasant minor character in Husband Material) which comes out in October 2023.

Evie Dunmore’s historical romances were a new find for me this year, and I liked them a lot. Grumpy men! Spunky women! Hot sex! What’s not to like? The fourth book (about Catriona! My favorite, as she too is deeply introverted and has uncontrollable hair!) has no publication date on Dunmore’s website, but Amazon says it publishes in September.

KD Casey’s baseball romances were also very fun. I’ve long been a fan of Taylor Fitzpatrick’s extended hockey romance universe; I enjoyed athlete romances for a difference sport.

Most Likely to Effect Actual Change in My Life:

400 Friends and No One to Call by Val Walker - everyone who is lonely should read this book. It’s the first self-help book I’ve read that provides concrete advice for expanding your circle of support/socialization.

Out of Thin Air: Running Wisdom and Magic from Above the Clouds in Ethiopia by Michael Crawley - an anthropologist and 2:20 marathoner goes to Ethopia to study running. Hoping to put lessons from this book into practice in my own running in the coming year.

Honorable mention to Being the Change: Live Well and Spark a Climate Revolution by Peter Calms. I’m still thinking about “humanure” and admiring the depth of his commitment.

Recommended:

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas - The world-building is superb. Yadriel’s family doesn’t accept him as a brujo because he’s trans. When Yadriel accidentally brings Julian Diaz back from the dead, everybody is going to Learn Something (especially Yadriel’s family). Also (I feel like this is not a spoiler since the book is published by the Swoon Reads imprint) Yadriel and Julian’s romance is delightful.

See No Stranger by Valerie Kaur - Kaur is a Sikh American and an activist and filmmaker. I wish I could have 1/10th the compassion and grace under pressure that she does.

T. Kingfisher - Ursula Vernon is going on my short-ish list of authors who I will read based on name alone, i.e. the “I’d-read-their-grocery-list-writers.” She consistently delights. I adore the Paladins.

Goals for 2023

A more balanced book-diet. I’d like to read more broadly across genres (I read very historical nonfiction this year) and across time (the majority of what I read was published in the 21st century).

I’d also like to improve my (very rudimentary) Spanish language skills by reading picture books en español.

what would happen if garfeild was real and had a skin walker doppelgänger

weird one i know but hear me out in this part i was seeing the point of view of some person name bate hill (age 20 this will be important later) and was on cleaning crew of an empty, very liminal hotel. and as i was clearing it out i hear the meow of a cat bate thought "i need to find the source of the sound and help it leave before this place is locked down for good" (me thinking "oh… shit this is not good i'm not going near it") but i find the source of the meowing and open the door and orange starts to scamper towards me, jumps on my shoulder, and whisper in my ear in a demonic raspy voice "bate hill age 20, you go to school at Lebanon university, you bike to and from work and school, your boyfriend Lucas Markova age 21, you were never safe and never will be, run i like to play with my food before i kill them". and then like from the heaven above i hear the voice of the almighty Garfield and hear him say in the Garfield show voice "hey. it seems like you gotten yourself into a pickel i tell you what follow my orders and i'll help you live. step one take 150 step, step two run for high hell you'll find me" and so i ran from the 10th floor to the base of the fire escape (which each flight of step has 10 step each so from floor 10 - floor 1 is 100 steps) and run for the forest then i woke up to a fucking video of the Garfield show

Wales will face Australia Rugby at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Wales will face Australia Rugby at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday 26th November. This will be the fourth and final autumn international to be played by Wales in 2022. The Nov. 26 game against Wales, who were stunned by the minnows of Georgia on Saturday, could be crucial for Rennie’s future.

In their most recent encounter, Wales narrowly beat Australia 29-28 during the 2021 autumn internationals, although the Wallabies played much of that match with only 14-men.

Overall, Wales and Wallabies Rugby have played each other on 44 occasions since their first meeting in 1908. The Wallabies have won 30 matches, whilst Wales have won 13 matches. There has also been one draw between the two sides.

Wayne Pivac’s Wales future will be decided by a post-autumn review after Saturday’s final match against Australia.

Today’s rugby news as Pivac to face WRU review and World Rugby launch investigation

WRU bosses Nigel Walker and Steve Phillips are focussed on allowing the team to prepare for the game against the Wallabies, but Pivac will have to come up with answers in a detailed review of the campaign as soon as it finishes. Wales’ shock 13-12 loss to Georgia was their eighth defeat of 2022 and a first ever against the Tier Two side. Another poor performance against the Wallabies could well prove one too many for the coach.

Wales will hold their first press conference today since Saturday, with the scrutiny and pressure on the coaching team sure to be at the top of the agenda.

Transport for Wales has also issued travel advice ahead of industrial action affecting services this Saturday while there will also be no Great Western Railway (GWR) services running in or out of Wales on that day

Rugby fans have once again been warned of disruption to train services ahead of Wales’ upcoming clash with Australia. The warning comes after there was significant disruption to transport the first Autumn Internationals game against New Zealand even though planned rail strikes were called off and further disruption after the third game against Georgia after the strikes recommenced.

Now fans have been told industrial action on Saturday, November 26, by the train drivers’ union Aslef at 12 other operators means Transport for Wales services across the Wales and Borders network are likely to be very busy. There are also no Great Western Railway services to and from Wales that day.

With kick-off at 3.15pm there will be a full city centre road closure from 11.15am until 7.15pm to ensure all ticketholders can get into and out of the stadium safely. Meanwhile the M4 is also expected to be very busy.

Tickets for the Wales v Australia Rugby autumn international match went on general sale on Friday 10th June, priced from £25 (Cat E) to £75 (Cat A) plus fees. Check the WRU Official Online Ticket Office website (powered by Ticketmaster) for further information.

The event park and ride facilities will be at County Hall in Cardiff Bay with the city centre drop-off point at Callaghan Square. The park and ride site will open at 8.50am with the first bus leaving at 9am. The last bus from the city centre will be at 7pm with the site closing soon after. The cost is £10 payable on the day and card payments are now available.

They’ll enjoy a full grooming package during their stay, daily exercise and solo or group (temperament dependent) time in our Doggy Day-care Park facilities and 24/7 monitoring. NOTICE

Pets must be non-reactive and good with other animals in order to be eligible for play dates

All pets must be up to date on their vaccines in order to stay at Ruff to Fluff. A dated record must be provided before arrival. All allergies, medical conditions, and temperament must be disclosed before a pet’s arrival as well. Please bring enough of your pet’s favourite food, medication, and treats to last the duration of their stay. A house kibble will be provided in emergencies, however we prefer to keep a pet’s diet as close as possible to normal. Switching diets can cause tummy issues and more anxiety. Medications must be LABELED with names, dates, instructions and more.

Main Entry:

The reception area opens up with a short hall in which a 125 gallon fish tank is the first thing that greets you! Once clear of the entryway, the reception desk sits in front of three beautiful bay windows and across from a comfy couch where you can wait for your pet to be finished grooming, picking up from boarding, or let in from the dog park. There’s always a fresh pot of coffee, tea and water available to those waiting, as well as light snacks for both humans and animals alike!

**There is no bell on the door! It drove the dogs nuts!

The Pet Shop:

The Pet Shop is an expanded area between the reception and the back porch/dog park area where Ruff to Fluff has all of their pet items for sale on display. Within the pet shop you can find yourself a wide selection of anything you might need for your furry friends! They sell organic and homemade treats for dogs, cats and critters, leashes, collars, bandanas, other accessories, toys, beds, food, small critter supplies and occasionally local artists’ works that reflect animals or nature.

The Grooming Area:

The grooming room contains two state of the art animal grooming tubs, and two harness-lock animal grooming tables. This room was built with sound-proofing insulation installed in the walls so that there are minimal distractions or stress both for animals inside the room and out. The windows in this room also always have the blinds drawn, if only to minimize outside distractions or dangers. Ruff to Fluff always uses natural and gentle shampoos, conditioners, cleansers and scents to pamper your animals!

*We have a minimal stress policy at R2F. This means that if your dog/animal is showing severe signs of stress, we will stop any and all treatments for the day. If this occurs we will work with you and your pet to do our best to work them up to a level in which we can provide our services! This is for the safety and comfort of our staff and your pet!

Boarding/Adoption Room:

The Boarding Room is the area where overnight stays spend their vacation. This is also where all of the adoptable animals call their temporary home until we can place them in their forever ones! Our floor to ceiling boarding kennels are roomy, cozy and always stocked with freshly cleaned blankets, beds and toys to keep your pets happy and healthy. There’s direct access to a private section of the outdoor doggy-park/yard where boarded animals can have private outdoor access daily during their trip!

There’s a wall in the Boarding Area where Greg puts up pictures of all the animals that have been adopted out with their owners to remember them & say thanks! There’s more, but I’m only listing the in play characters/animals here, so - so far this wall consists of:

Vincenzo Santorini Memorial Dog Park

The largest project for Ruff to Fluff - Swynlake’s newest Dog Park & Play Area. Built on the expansive flat land of the previous Dalmatian plantation, the new dog park is completely enclosed, has multiple areas and includes many different features!

The ‘small city’ inside of the main dog park is themed to our very own Swynlake - with the fake buildings inside bearing a likeness to our very own small businesses right here in town! Dogs can chill out in the shade at Pixie’s, or splash along Atlantis Lake near Tiana’s Place. They can also blast through a quick game at Al’s Comic Barn, shop for some toys at Moon Market or admire the scenery at The Rock Shoppe. V.S Memorial Park is split into three main areas: The Small Dog Section, The Large Dog Section, and our Doggy Daycare Area.

All areas are open to public access on the weekends. On Weekdays, the Doggy Daycare Area is only available to those enrolled in our Doggy Daycare program during those hours.

Also inside our Mini-Swynlake, Atlantis is split into two swimming areas for dogs to paddle and splash away at - one for the big dogs and one for the little ones too! (Note: These areas are staffed at all times whenever this area of the park is open. Whenever it can not be staffed, a cover will be placed over any water feature).

Full List of Businesses that have their own little Model Buildings in the R2F Dog Park: Pixie’s, Moon Market, Tiana’s Place, Al’s Comic Barn, SunBurst, The Rock Shoppe, The Court of Miracles, Chapter Three.

Separate from our Model-Swynlake Doggy Park and further behind the building - Ruff to Fluff also has a fenced in open field area with multiple bays, where dogs can run free in the grass, play around or just enjoy the sunshine - either privately or with friends. Feel free to join them in our outdoor yard chairs! There are also a small selection of dog-playground activities for dogs to enjoy here. There’s a path leading right from the gate back towards Main Street!

Around the yard are paw-print shaped stepping stones engraved with the names of our donors who helped fund this project!!

The final outdoor dog-park area is our smaller covered playroom. This section is for when the weather in Swynlake gets a little dreary! We still need room for a bit of outdoor play time sheltered from the elements!

Both of these outdoor areas are available to the public from dawn-dusk.

Genevieve Padalecki discusses her return to acting with Walker

rom a young age Genevieve Padalecki was a bit of a workaholic, going out of her way to find opportunities to act, to create. Every Sunday when she was growing up, she'd walk to get the newspaper to search for auditions or acting classes. She was determined to get her foot in the door. "I did a lot of community theater," Padalecki tells EW. "I went to middle school with Marla Sokoloff, who was just getting cat in Full House. She left to go to L.A., and I was just trying to figure out any way to be creative and figure out how it was going to work."

Padalecki was never not acting, from theater to that one abstinence commercial she filmed in high school and will never forget. But it was her college counselor who pushed her to dream big, and by the next year, she'd attend NYU's Tisch School for the Arts. But just being at Tisch wasn't enough. So she kept working. "On my weekends I was taking supplemental classes that I would just find around the city," she reaclls. "I used the city to my advantage at the time and would take on-camera classes because I just knew it was something I really wanted to do."

It wasn't long before Padalecki landed her big break as Kris Furillo on the 2005 ABC Family series Wildfire. Kris had just gotten out of a teen detention center when she was hired to work with the horses on a family-run ranch. "I kind of looked at it as a master's degree," says Padalecki. "Because I was sort of thrown in there pretty quickly on my own. I had never been on TV, and suddenly I was number one on a call sheet." Wildfire ran for four seasons, wrapping in 2008, which is also when Padalecki joined the CW's Supernatural.

Padalecki, who was then Genevieve Cortese, joined the show in its fourth season as Ruby, a character — a demon, to be precise — previously played by Katie Cassidy. It would become the role she's most known for, but it was also the place she met her husband, Sam Winchester himself, Jared Padalecki. In 2010, the couple were married, and suddenly she was considering pushing pause on the career she'd pursued her whole life. "I really am into accomplishing things and having goals, so it was something that was, at the time, really challenging to think about," Padalecki says. "But I felt like I needed to either nurture my relationship or do the grind. I really wanted to be a newlywed and figure out that journey, and Jared was in season 5 of a show that was going really well. So it kind of all happened, certainly not in the way I would've planned it but in the way that was best for us and our relationship. It was challenging I think more mentally than anything else, but it was the best decision for us."

Although she might not have been acting, Padalecki never stopped working, from launching her blog to starting a book club and of course, raising three kids. But when her husband's post-Supernatural gig Walker started to come together, it was showrunner Anna Fricke who had the idea for her to return to the small screen after nearly a decade away. "Jared had been developing the show and we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in Park City, and his phone kept ringing at dinner and it was Anna," Padalecki remembers. "So he stepped outside and he came back and said, 'I have something really interesting to ask you. How do you feel about playing my wife?' The story didn't matter. I was able to be a part of that journey and also be alongside my husband, so it really felt like a no-brainer."

Then the nerves set in. How easily could she return to the world she left behind? Thankfully, before Walker started filming, Padalecki was asked back to Supernatural to reprise the role of Ruby for an episode in the long-running series' final season. But even that didn't totally eliminate the nerves surrounding creating a new character from scratch. "I felt insecure about it," Padalecki says of playing Emily on Walker.

But that all disappeared the moment she looked the part. "Once I stepped in to Emily's shoes and sat down in the makeup chair and then got on set, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, I remember how to do this. I love this so much.'" she says. "I was so surprised with how much I'd missed it."

Now, with Walker already a big success for the CW — "I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not, because I think my husband is a total badass," she says — and a second season guaranteed, Padalecki is dreaming of more ways to stay in front of the camera. "I would really love to keep working. I really enjoy it; I love being on camera," she says. But that's not all she's doing. Just this week she launched Towwn, a community focused on sustainability and rethinking the way we live and interact with the planet. "I hope I can create an empire, one where we learn from each other," Padalecki says.

All in all, Padalecki, now 40, hasn't changed much from that little girl who'd go out of her way to stay busy. If anything, she's now finding new ways to push herself even harder. "I know I have a problem," she says with a laugh.
