Dreamwatch Blood Crown Tournament Night 3 (FINAL)
Yoshi Onodera vs Ryuji Katagiri
Tumblr media
And here it is! We have finally arrived at the final and this one is gonna be big! We've got newcomer Yoshi Onodera who has, by hook or by crook, battled his way through every foe put in front of him to make it to the final! He's proven time and time again that he has the guts, he has the skill, and most importantly, he's willing to do anything as long as he gets his hand raised. There's no honor among thieves!
On the other hand we have Ryuji Katagiri! Katagiri managed to explode on the scene over the summer, becoming the inaugural Dreamscape Stellar World Champion after beating Yamato Ryukawa in his very first match with the company!
...Before losing that championship in his very second match with the company. Katagiri on paper seems to be a very tough competitor but going into this tournament I wouldn't blame you for seeing him as somewhat of a flash in the pan. Now we're here at the final and he has managed to battle his way through tough opponents, including two of Dreamwatch's very best in Yamato Ryukawa and Johnny McLaren. A big win here would be the perfect way to get him back on track as a big deal in the company. In his eyes, he cannot lose, and I can imagine this pressure is getting to him after hearing so many murmurs from fans and other people on the roster who haven't gotten nearly the same amount of opportunities as he has. Its time to put that all to rest right here!
This match was so tense! The early goings of this match were incredibly slow and methodical, with both men spending a lot of time keeping their distance and throwing low kicks. This could be because of the fact that both men were already in brutal matches earlier in the night (This is literally Katgiri's second match in a row following a short intermission) but it could also be both men not wanting to mess up here and cost themselves the match so close to the crown. When the two men got closer to each other to grapple, there was a lot of jockeying for position and trying to slap on a hold, and in these scenarios Katagiri clearly had the upper hand, able to get into holds and reverse the holds of Onodera fairly easily. The crowd ate this up, clearly wanting Katagiri to beat Onodera here. Onodera wasn't willing to give up so easily or tire himself out trying to grapple again so he pulled out his great equalizer: the brass knuckles. This weapon has caused some significant damage in this tournament and has single-handedly managed to give Onodera wins in some scenarios. The most shocking thing here is that Katagiri managed to completely shrug off the blow after being punched in the face with those brass knuckles. It was brave of him to immediately ignore the pain, get up, and land some knee lifts. He looked like a badass too it was pretty great. Not too far after that the subtlety gave way to both men trying to push the advantage. Onodera's shot didn't keep Katagiri down long, but Onodera was no fool and he smelled blood in the water. Onodera managed to land some knees to the face, as well as some mount punches to the front and back of the head that surely added to the pain Katagiri was feeling. Katagiri wasn't out, though, returning some strikes of his own, some of his expertly-applied submissions, and even landing a HUGE northern light bomb in this contest. This was when the match started to really take a turn! The tension was starting to build, the crowd was getting excited, and suddenly...

...It was over. Onodera slapped on an achilles lock and Katagiri tapped out around thirteen minutes in. This match was shorter than most, especially for Katagiri who is known for his durability and stamina. I, and everyone in the crowd, and maybe even Onodera, were completely lost for words. Was it his body wrestling a grueling tournament whereas Onodera cheated his way through? Was it wrestling two matches in a row? Was it the brass knuckles punch earlier in the match doing more damage than he let on? I, unfortunately, don't have the answers for you. I can tell you that the crowd was sad, and deflated. So was Daigo, who was in the corner of Katagiri for this match. For the first time in his Dreamwatch career, everyone wanted to see Katagiri win, but he folded under pressure. Onodera, in shocking fashion, wins the match. Crownwatch Naomi retrieves the speckled red Blood Crown, and places it on the head of Yoshi Onodera.
Yoshi Onodera: HAAAA! I told you all this day was coming, didn't I? If you didn't believe me then, you damn sure can't deny it now! Nobody. Can. Beat. ME! She just gave me this crown, which means that I am King! My reign isn't going to end every time soon, and business is about to pick up! Long. Live. ME!
--
Katagiri is on his hands and knees on the ground, breathing heavily and saying nothing.
Katgiri: I'm nothing. I'm a failure now.
Daigo reaches a hand out to Katagiri
Daigo: Come on, don't let people see you like this...
Katagiri gets up on his own
Katagiri: Its fine. I really, really needed to win that. I'm not an openly emotional person, but I really needed that for my own sake. Ever since the day I got here, I feel like I've been enemy number one. I've heard the chatter of me getting pushed when I'm not special, of me immediately ruining the prestige of the world championship by having a short reign as the first reign. Nobody has even seen the belt and its my fault, the people have no belt to fight for now because of me. I've heard it all, non-stop. And in this one instance it felt like all of the critiques were put to rest for a moment, so I could focus on winning. This was my first time feeling like I was part of the roster, and now I feel like I don't even belong here. This is how low I am right now. Immediately after I lost, everything came back, like the support was a lie, like everyone actually wanted me to fail the whole time. This is what I hate about being a person, instead of being just a fighter. Now that I'm here, the pressure is gone, and... There's anger instead. There's a lot bubbling up inside me right now. I should have won, what is wrong with me? I can't stop, I can't give up, or else this burning will last forever. This isn't what I want for me. There's a huge, huge storm coming, Daigo.
Daigo: Yeah, I know.
Katagiri: But we march forward.
Daigo: Yeah. We always march forward. We can't do anything else.
--
Yoshi Onodera is showered in red and gold confetti as the press moves in to take photos of the victorious warrior. Congratulations to the holder of Dreamwatch's Blood Crown, Yoshi Onodera!!!
