Hi. I hope you don't find this weird. I've never met you before. But your words about kpop and BTS has always brought me comfort and clarity. I've been reading your blog for the last few days looking to see if you will clearly address it. You haven't written about your own view about Jimin's mistreatment and sabotage since it happened. But you have acknowledged it happened. You also reiterate how yoonmin is still in control. I respect you for that. But can you share your own view and feelings about this issue more? Billboard is clearly anti-BTS and hedging their actions by using Bang PD who it seems was interviewed by them long before the Jimin thing happened. You've said this before. You've also said BTS have said they won't play the music game the conventional way. But you haven't said how you feel about it. I want to ask for your genuine opinion.

Last night, I was finishing up some work I'd brought forward because of Agust D's tour. Set Me Free Pt 2 was playing on my speakers and I thought how good it would sound on radio. Alone, too. It's a crime that with the kind of music BTS makes, people are deprived of hearing it simply because the middle men of the US music industry refuse to renege on their mandatory cut.

Fifty Fifty is a group with good and extremely marketable songs. Their agency's co-founder stated he intends to make the female BTS, and he said he sold his car to make the dream of Fifty Fifty happen. It all sounds wonderful until you learn the CEO and other co-founder is the COO of Beyond Music - the largest music IP investment firm in Korea. It is bigger than HYBE's department for that. Not only that, the CEO sits on the executive board of Warner Music Korea, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group. He also runs an actors agency that manages several high profile k-drama actors in Korea. Basically, Fifty Fifty has been partnered and owned by some of the biggest entertainment companies not just in Korea, but globally. The group broke out on TikTok with Cupid and enjoyed organic success, much like NewJeans. As a result it was added to several Spotify-curated playlists that run on a proprietary algorithm, and like NewJeans' songs, Cupid climbed up the charts because it's an easy-listening poppy tune. The difference between NewJeans and Fifty Fifty though, is that Warner Group has now adopted formal co-management of Fifty Fifty and Cupid will be officially sent to radio. Warner artists get a stupid amount of radioplay. It's going to be a wonderful thing for Fifty Fifty, and it's very likely that with that sort of support, they get a Billboard Hot 100 #1 win.

There are many times BigHit fucks up with BTS. The issues of insulting subtitles (in Korean) towards Jimin and Yoongi occasionally piss me off; Jimin's stolen mail, the weirdo stalking Jungkook; how inconsistent shipping is (if there's a production bottleneck with a sub-contractor they should quickly change it), are all annoying; it's very possible some members of staff are anti several members because weird shit has been happening since HYBE's massive hiring of ex-Big 3 staff in 2020; and so on. But unfortunately many of those things are to be expected. I too wish Jimin had longer time to promote FACE, but both he and Yoongi had initially planned to release their albums late last year, but neither of them met their deadlines and instead moved it to Spring. The timing for their albums was always going to be close, and I'm sure booking tour venues as well as meeting enlistment deadlines only added to their constraints. I quickly got over my initial annoyance because it's clear both Jimin and Yoongi have accepted it. Plus the bigger problem is the industry's response to BTS.

Because of the sort of group BTS is, they will always have enemies. Their status as the biggest group in the world has only complicated things in many ways, especially when it comes to BigHit publicly and corporately addressing unfair treatment towards them. People already think BTS do not deserve their status and goodluck, do you think those people give a fuck if Billboard and Western music industry is screwing BTS over? No, they don't. And every party in this equation knows that. BTS has also said, since as early as 2017, that if they wanted to become massively successful sooner, they could've done so. Those opportunities came to them. In 2018 when BTS made history with Fake Love on the Billboard Hot 100, they could've signed with an American company like Warner, gotten carried by radio, and you and I would be having a very different discussion right now.

I don't know what the future will hold. Maybe BTS has in fact peaked and when they return after enlistment the world would've moved on to a better, hotter, more marketable artist. Maybe their bodies, interests, and priorities would have changed irreversibly. Maybe...

But I look at a group like BTS, and I don't care about any of that.

(The boys all signed Yoongi's guitar. It's his solo concert tour debut and they're all with him. He's taking comfort in them all being with him, and sharing some of that comfort with us.)

Anyway, I've rambled. You asked me what my feelings are about the whole thing?

I feel pride. That's what I feel looking at this whole situation. A NCTzen friend asked my opinion about it too, I told her the same thing, and she said this is probably one trait I share with my biases, that's shining through. I feel such a strong sense of pride looking at Jimin, at Yoongi, at BTS. Even if they eventually decide to play the industry's game with their rules, my respect for them won't change. Who they are as people, and as artists, make tolerating the hellscape that is stan environments much more palatable. They make putting up with bullshit from this industry, much more doable.

When I first learned about Jimin's week 2 sales being deleted, I checked US stock exchanges to see if Billboard's parent company was listed. I was prepared to short the stock. The minute I realized it was owned by a private company, and when I saw the owner, I knew we were fucked. I continued donating for the sales though. I'm not American so I couldn't buy, so the donations were the next most direct way to support.

BTS could very well never reach again the heights they reached before enlistment. But I don't care. I've been listening to some of the best music I've ever heard in my life since July 2022. Yoongi in Valentino, Hobi in Louis Vuitton, Joon in Bottega Veneta, Jimin in Dior, Jungkook in Calvin Klein - it's been a feast. Jikook are jikooking harder than ever before like I still haven't gotten over the birthday video JK made for Jimin. Like what the fuck was that?

BTS are some of the most incredible people to ever exist. They say they trust each other and their team. I'm keeping my eyes wide open to assess the situation for myself always, while never losing sight of why I'm here in the first place: to enjoy myself with them and the art they make. I'll try Jungkook's recipes sometime soon, and neither Jimin nor Yoongi's music has left my current rotation. I'm going to see Yoongi soon. With all that's happening in the world, it feels like a priviledge to have the means to enjoy being a fan of BTS. Not many people get to experience this, to not just hear their music but to have this connection with them. If you doubt that just watch the Amygdala music video. With BTS there's a trust that can be felt, and I don't take it for granted.

One Piece: Romance Dawn

Episode one of the One piece live action... This is only my opinions and views, if you aren't interested in that then cool but I need somewhere to talk. This will be bullet points.

Introduction with Roger's execution and a narrator? A fantastic choice

Roger's casting is actually spot on though?? Why were people complaining he's great for the role, Roger is in his 50s here are you he's sick of course he's not gonna be a super model but he's still stoic looking and I like it

Scottish Garp I shouldn't expect anything less (if they ever get to Sabaody I hope Kidd and Killer are Scottish too lmao)

I like that you can see who's in the crowd too because for the anime/manga people it's like a lil treat (Dragon I see you stop hiding)

Iñaki is perfect. I don't think anyone else would have suited Luffy more, the more the episode continued the more convinced I became

Line delivery is... It could be improved. It's quite theatrical? Like stage place or musical type acting sometimes. Maybe it's what they were going for I don't know, I don't hate it but it made me pause for a few moments because I get really bad second hand embarrassment

Coby and Luffy moments are great, they're dynamic and it's a lovely relationship they have going and you can tell the actors work well together

Shanks and his crew? Absolutely phenomenal. Peter Gadiot is perfect but the trailer did him dirty. My only complaint is I don't think Benn's casting was the best, sorry to the actor but he just doesn't fit quite like the others.

In my most honest opinion, this episode was good. It wasn't the greatest, there's definitely more to come and it's a lovely scene setter and build up. The cast are great, I have a few comments about how they've been directed to deliver lines because it's honestly not the best.

The CGI even now, where there wasn't much needed, is really promising. My favourites so far? Definitely Shanks, Luffy (both mini and big) and Nami. They honestly made the first episode for me. It's got the fun feel of the show, and for a live action it's quite good. I do agree it's not to everyone's taste, my brother watched one scene and didn't like it but that's because he's a skeptic. I have high hopes, let's just hope incels and chronically online shit wipes don't ruin this for me or others... Don't listen to them, it's worth a watch.

I just saw some article abt a tiktok where a mother asks if her 10 yo's written music piece can be played (yes it can) and she starts with the kid having played violin for 2 yrs but it turns out it's a family thing with parents/aunts/grandmothers involved too...

And the reason I'm bringing this up is because of my university experience. I didn't do anything like AP classes or A levels when I was in high school. My parents have their high school diplomas and they're at very basic levels. I used to attend a different form of tertiary education attended by ppl who had backgrounds a lot more similar to mine, but in academia I'd say 80% of people had university educated people and probably about 10% had at least one parent and/or grandparent with a PhD.

I messed up my MA thesis. I mean, I passed and realistically I know that a lot of what happened isn't my fault (I ran into a serious medical issue which meant my process was delayed AND then my supervisor left after giving me minimal feedback and w/o any sort of decent transfer, after which I was not allowed to get any feedback from the replacement supervisor who was new at my university/in my country).

At the same time, I feel like the situation is definitely compounded by not having any academics in my family. I wasn't raised with the academic sense of thinking (and therefore rely too much on background research because I get insecure!) and I don't have the degree of Background Knowledge that is sort of expected of people when they wanna succeed (and yes languages like Latin are sort of included but the STORIES and HISTORIES are a lot more important, in the sense that learning Latin can be done postgraduate for sure but catching up on many many of the stories and references is a lot more difficult).

I was wondering what your thoughts are on this. I don't know if this really qualifies as a hidden curriculum as technically it ISN'T needed to succeed, but I DO notice that I have had to work a lot harder than my peers for the same outcomes, and the moment I faced setbacks I simply didn't have the type of backup in place (esp with few friends) that other people did have.

Ofc this also isn't to say that people who do have all this background knowledge should be excluded or whatever! It's just supremely difficult to catch up once you're behind, and it really has confronted me with class immobility more than anything else. Jobs in the academic world ARE notoriously difficult to come by, but this is about the step before that - succeeding in programs where previous knowledge DOES really benefit students simply because they're capable of drawing more connections because they KNOW more, and how that should be dealt with. The idea that people who are "behind" in their way of approaching academia and/or the knowledge required being immediately put at a disadvantage (and I know I am and I am a rare case bec most ppl with this disadvantage don't MAKE it to uni in the Netherlands or don't do as well as I somehow managed to do at all), AND the idea they need to catch up in the same amount of time that other students without the disadvantage to catch up... And of course not doing as well be cause we need additional time to catch up!

Like... University to me has been sucu a confrontation with how different classes of people (whether traditional income based or more education based) function and the inequality functions in a way I can't really find the words to express. All I know it's been very difficult and made me feel the odd one out pretty much the entire time I was studying.

How do you feel about inequality in higher education, and I guess also how do you feel about the current postgraduate system (MA/PHD).

Okay, so if I'm understanding your question correctly, you're specifically asking how I feel about how inherited privilege functions in academia, and how this contributes to overall inequality in the discipline/in regard to people involved it?

Obviously, kids from well-off homes, who have access to better education, private schools, personal tutors, cultural/learning opportunities paid for by their parents, etc. etc., all have a big advantage going into university. This doesn't always translate into actual results, but we all know about the nepotism/Ivy League kids who get into Yale while clearly not being very bright (cough cough George W. Bush) because, well, their families have always gone to Yale and it's what they do. I often see people expressing incredulity that particularly noxious American politicians, such as Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, and Ron DeSantis (who all went to Harvard/Yale/Princeton etc) act that way, because "they went to Harvard, shouldn't they know better?" This naively assumes that because Harvard is so prestigious, it must therefore teach a more Correct or Intelligent Curriculum, and totally ignores the fact that when Harvard IS in the news, it's usually for some scandal or gatekeeping or corruption, because it's functioning exactly as designed in transmitting the mentality and privilege of the American ruling class. Harvard is prestigious (and very hard to get into) because of that, not due to any extra rigor or merit in its curriculum. If you have that name on your CV, then yes, doors will automatically open for you whether or not You Personally Deserve It. That's just not the way anything works.

As such, academia reflects the inequalities that are already present in society, and it often magnifies them, especially because the long-term pursuit of higher education is, to put it bluntly, almost impossible without equally long-term funding resources. People either have to go into massive amounts of debt, or rely on having the Bank of Mom and Dad to pay for them. If you don't have and/or want either of those, your options are limited. Tons of people quit because they just can't afford to do it, they have no job options afterward, or they're burned out. Academia is a corporate structure just like everything else, and it's certainly not some magical fairyland where everyone is judged only on the quality of their ideas and nothing else. Getting an academic job is all about who you know and how you can leverage your existing connections in the field. So yeah, it can often function as a microcosm of all the other inequalities in society, and produce narratives that are, as ever, beneficial to the powerful.

That said, I do think there has been important and meaningful progress in the last few generations of scholars alone. Diversity, equality, and inclusion statements/institutional values can often sound canned and stereotypical, but the fact that they're there at all, and have broad acceptance across the academy, is remarkable and somewhat underappreciated. Ron DeSantis and his fascist footmen aren't trying so hard to totally destroy higher education in Florida (and if he wins the GOP nomination, across the country) for no reason, and conservatives aren't so hyper-obsessed with their local school boards for the same reasons. There is more awareness of marginalized narratives and dynamics in the academy than there has ever been before, and there is real and important work being done by a wide variety of incredibly diverse scholars. One critique of academia that really gets my goat, and shows me that those repeating it have no idea what they're talking about, is "academia is all old white men at elite universities!" That just isn't remotely equivalent to what things look like in 2023, or what they focus on. What about that guy who couldn't even read until he was 18, who just became Cambridge's youngest black professor at age 37? Obviously, obviously, more work needs to be done across all levels in increasing access and opportunity. But that shouldn't prevent us from recognizing the real progress that has been made, and just why anti-democratic, anti-intellectual forces perceive it as such a threat.

Likewise, academia is an incredibly fusty and outdated practice based on rules and systems originally developed about 1000 years ago, which is why it can be -- to say the least -- resistant to change. So the whole MA/PhD system is predicated on those very outdated systems, but nobody has really come up with a better one. I was very fortunate to have had the support of friends and family, including financially, while I was completing my degrees; without that, I too would not have been able to finish. Likewise, anti-intellectualism and the idea that all information is created equal, that academic expertise doesn't matter, that all intellectuals/college professors must be secretly lying to you for the power trip, etc., is something that often turns up in left-leaning as well as right-leaning spaces (see, uh, Tumblr, which tends to think that whatever is empirically true is whatever aligns with their favorite belief). So I have to push back on that as well as the rest of it, if that makes sense.

Jokers living up to their names and doing it in an alternate reality as usual. 😂 I'm sorry, but it's so pathetic to come to a Taekooker blog after Jimin makes a birthday post to brag about Jikook thriving and Taekook "giving" us nothing in the time of solo era/2023 when there have been more significant Taekook moments than any single year since I started following their story in 2016. We've seen Jikook together four times when we know they were filming company content, and Weverse/TikTok interactions...and that's pretty much it. Taekook is Thriving™, so I can see why they'd want to swap narratives. Multiple confirmed hang outs before leaving on trips and after arriving back in SK (including when Tae was only back for a couple of days in between schedules), Paradise Hotel, Busan beach late night, bowling (multiple times confirmed), attending a musical, the Dream premiere, arriving late to Yoongi's concert together and leaving together, wearing the matching sweetheart shirts on the same day despite Tae being in SK and Jungkook being in LA at the time which is one of the most insane boyfriend things they've ever done, Tae sneaking into Inkigayo to support Jungkook's first solo performance there, Jungkook proudly wearing the Wooga ring which tells us he has officially been folded into Tae's closest social circle in a significant way and of course his closest friends have been outspokenly supporting his bf's hit song including Bogum and one of Tae's best friends from high school. This is just what I could think of off the top of my head, my mind has actually been blown by how much has happened in the last year. Everything makes sense given what I believe to be the nature of their relationship, I just feel incredibly blessed. Never expecting anything, but always grateful for what they share. That's where I'm at. I've actually never been more sure of them. I don't give a single f about who posts what on social media, I never have. They can call each other. Taekook literally live within walking distance of each other. They can hang out whenever they want without anyone knowing, and I'm sure they do. Being boyfriends and all. I just think people in the fandom in general are unaware of a lot of what Taekook do because I remember seeing posts after the Dream premiere from ARMYs saying "I feel like it's been years since I've seen them!" And some people very intentionally try to avoid seeing what they're up to together. It's cool. You just look like an idiot when you come to a Taekooker blog and say nonsense like what that anon sent. 😂

They love to come and brag on taekook blogs, and it really is pathetic. Any little j*kook interaction is seen as another chance for them to get "one up" on us, which is very immature. It's not a competition 🙄

You're right. There have been PLENTY of pretty significant taekook moments this year, but j*kookers are blind to them as usual. Even with all the taekook going on, j*kookers still claim it's a "dead ship."

To be fair, as I said before, we don't always know when the members hang out with each other, so j*kook could quite possibly have hung out together more than what we already know, but certain comments from them, and the fact that they haven't known each others schedules or what the other has been doing recently makes that seem more unlikely. And j*kook filming company content is not a "romantic outing," despite how much they want it to be 🤷‍♀️

I think taekook makes them feel insecure at times, which is why they try to diminish their interactions. There's no denying at this point that taekook are incredibly close (romantic or not) and that they spend a whole lot of time together. If j*kookers are really as unbothered by this as they say they are, why are they always so desperate to rub any little j*kook moment in our faces the second it happens?

You listing all those taekook moments really made me realise just how much taekook content there has been in the past 8-9 months! They really are thriving. Taekook don't have to DO anything for me to keep believing in them, but they keep showing us in little, subtle ways where their priorities lie. "Never expecting anything, but always grateful for what they share" is such a great way to put it. I don't expect anything from them. I'm not entitled to their private life or relationship, I just enjoy observing their love from afar.

I think a lot of the fandom is very unaware of the extent of taekook's bond and their interactions. We look for and notice things about them that they never would. They don't pay attention to noises in the background of their lives or them wearing the same t-shirt on the same day. Most of what makes us believe in taekook isn't common knowledge amongst army because if you're not looking for it, you won't see it. They're not exactly flaunting their relationship. I do feel like they leave us a few clues every now and then, though 😉

1. the character everyone gets wrong

Trapper John McIntyre is not a himbo. Yes he's bad at card games up to and including solitaire. But he's an extremely talented surgeon (there are more episodes that say "those two are the best" about Hawkeye and Trapper than Hawkeye and BJ) and episodes like the one where he writes his daughter or Ceasefire show him as a thoughtful, reflective person.

I'm giving this one a double because also, Henry Blake. When people say "how did they survive Henry being in command?" it upsets me. Henry's incompetence is deliberate and occasionally implied to be deliberate in-universe. It's an act of rebellion from a guy who doesn't belong in the army and doesn't want to be there. His laziness is the same. He's also not a bad leader. Henry is there for Hawkeye in both Sticky Wicket and Sometimes You Hear the Bullet. He admits that he's not comfortable with the kind of command decisions he's expected to make. And the thing is, most of the time he doesn't have to. The unit does a pretty good job of running itself, because everyone cares about doing the medical stuff right, Radar handles the paperwork, and no (except Frank and Margaret) cares about the military stuff anyway. The 4077th achieves its high efficiency rating under Henry Blake's command.

3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr

There are so many contenders for this but honestly I think the worst take I've seen is the variations on the thing BJ loses in GFA being Hawkeye, or Hawkeye and BJ losing each other. The actual worst one was the one in a ten minute tiktok that said "the thing Hawkeye loses is the war" and then also said if you see him as a queer man, he's leaving a "safe space" (??????)? in "the middle of the lavender scare." But I've seen so many versions of it on tumblr, too.

It's so wildly against the point of GFA it makes me wonder if the people saying it watched the episode at all. I think fandom takes "everyone loses something" way too literally; I don't think it was ever intended as listing some tangible thing each of them lost, which is why no one from the show ever does that. Alan Alda also frequently describes it as "everyone is changed in some way" which is a lot less rigid and fits the story a lot better. 

Hawkeye and BJ only have each other because of the war and the idea that none of these relationships, including that one, can survive outside the war is also brought up. But the things everyone loses, the ways everyone is changed, are not things they only gained because of the war. If they were, it wouldn't work. The only exception is Potter and Sophie and I think there's a bit of symbolism there that makes it work when you consider Potter's backstory of getting into the army as an idealistic kid in the cavalry. Mulcahy's hearing, Charles's love of music, Margaret's unwavering faith in the army/her father (which are the same to her), Klinger's home, these are all things these characters came with. 

Hawkeye's loss, too, which Mike Farrell kindly summarized for us as Hawkeye loses his sanity." Hawkeye also arguably lost surgery, or at least his love for it. BJ's loss, of course, is the thing he spends the entire episode obsessing over: his daughter. There's a reason there is so much focus on her birthday. He left shortly after she was born; her second birthday means he's missed two full years of her life. Like Charles's music, Margaret's belief in the army, Hawkeye's love for his work, Mulcahy's hearing as a part of his work, Klinger's hometown... being a father is foundational to BJ. 

I don't care if a take is shippy or not, if it says Hawkeye and BJ's loss is each other, it fundamentally misunderstands GFA and it's not worth anything to me. 

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

Basically everything as far as BJ Hunnicutt is concerned. He doesn't have layers. Every "layer" is just headcanon and headcanons are fine, but they're not layers that are in the show. BJ in the show is a straightforward family man who loves his wife and child and can't wait to go home to them. That's how he's written and that's how he's played. That's his character's one big thing to the point of him getting boring sometimes. The writers struggled with him; this is confirmed. He's also not a liar; there is no evidence of him telling lies the way fandom describes. He's not particularly manipulative, either. He has his day in the sun in practical joke episodes, as does nearly every character (Hawkeye and Trapper in A Smattering of Intelligence, Charles in a Eye for a Tooth, Potter in April Fools...). To suggest this is a BJ trait is incorrect. BJ is also not an unusually jealous person and he doesn't have any issues with Trapper. The idea that BJ is "putting up a front"... sorry, but that's just who he is. MASH isn't an especially subtle show; when a character is putting up a front (e.g. Frank talking a big game while being a dirty coward) this is made obvious to even the most casual viewer.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

I don't know if he's unpopular but Luther Rizzo has haters and I can't understand why! He's lazy and likes making the army pay him for sleeping on the clock. Iconic! He's also one of the most loving and dedicated family men we meet. We never see him with or even talking about another woman and he seems to genuinely love Zola and their son Billy Bubba. He never does anything offensive. I don't understand it! He's great and I want to read more backstory about him.

13. worst blorboficiation

Hawkeye for sure. I love to blorbofy Hawkeye, but it gets taken way too far. Hawkeye pre-war was a successful surgeon living on his own and I think people forget that. I think a lot of people project their own issues onto Hawkeye which is fine if you know that's what you're doing, but the line gets blurred a lot. Just look at his TVTropes page (don't). There is no canon evidence that Hawkeye has a lot of the issues that are popular to give him. I also think this ties in with the mischaracterization of him as a sad sack love martyr who waits around to be swept off his feet. That isn't Hawkeye. I also think people really like to project their own politics onto him. Hawkeye is progressive, yes, but he doesn't talk like a tumblr post. He doesn't agree with your exact politics.

while i don't know of all of damon's inspirations, you could say doing different genres and finding up-and-coming young artists to collaborate with is experimentation itself even if the genres/styles are repeated, gorillaz's "a solar collaboration" was only just in 2018. cracker island is pop which you usually don't associate with experimentation but it was intentionally made as an exploration into Pop with a capital P, not b/c he's now forever writing music in this style. i think judging experimentation is a subjective thing to me 🤷‍♂️ i simply do not know enough about music creation or how to even delineate genres to answer clearly, aside from disagreeing with "it's not like S/T or Demon Days so its not experimental" which is some opinion i come across when trying to see what people felt about more current albums. i thought humanz was experimental! and it's very much inspired by the time it was written. same with song machine.

i don't know if they'll ever be interested in having a stronger hand in the character writing, but i kind of gave up on wishing for that. preserving the style of info dropping via interviews is great, but i complained about the writing choices enough on this blog. there's some interviews from here and here where you can see the reasoning behind gorillaz which was 1. controlled fictional celebrities 2. parodying and 3. freedom of collaboration. the social commentary comes with them being fictional. you can write 2D protesting for denuclearization and he's protected by being fictional, who said it 2D or the writers? his writers of course, same with the whack shit murdoc would say or tacking on NOI stuff to russel without thought or research, that's the writers responsibility. lately when the writing focuses hard on drama & history that is completely fictional, social commentary is dropped. maybe murdoc being a cult figure was supposed to mean something other than marketing, and parody new age cults preying on vulnerable people or celeb worship. their setting of hollywood barely gets referenced. cornwell is fantastic but there's not enough to work with when the end goal is "please the fans". so that's why it's looping back to "murdoc is mean to 2D but they have a history" and then... not much else in terms of depth

to wrap up the negativity, i understand why they aren't as involved with the writing, either now or back then in varying degrees. jamie was famously overworked the back end of 2010s with song machine and to expect control over all written word is out of the question, plus they're more independently funded since 2019 so this means more creative control but also more responsibility. damon writes music and to make it fit with gorillaz lore was never his priority

like yes they should care more but. d&j never wrote for the social media shit back in facebook chat days and they sure as hell won't start now (and i hope they don't) this seperation makes it easier for me to look at the (!!high budget 3D animated!!) tiktoks and go "Damn. anyways i'm gonna go listen to Tarantula"

Very good last episode. Gave us some angst and tied up some loose ends in the first half. Made me sooo giddy in the second half.

Overall:

I really liked it, especially for what it was: a cute, endearing high school BL with really endearing leads and good acting and sometimes turning tropes on their head.

I didn't love it or obsess over it the way some people seemed to but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I also loved so many of their faces lol Fourth and Prom my favourite beautiful faces but Gemini and Satang are beautiful too, not to mention Gun's mother whew!

This made me giddy and the OSTs are great and there's clear effort from the cast and crew. I liked the dynamic between the characters, whether it be how Gun and Tinn took turns being bold and shy or the parent-child relationships or Chinzhilla band. I might increase the rating by 0.5 if the characters continue giving me brainrot.

hiiii today's reminder is that tiktok about Patrick stump and Br*ndon Ur*e was so brave yet so very true. which brings me to my controversial opinion: hitting/holding a high note does not necessarily equal great vocal technique. don't get me wrong, it's a skill, and definitely impressive esp in men, but to me it just doesn't come close to people who know how to use their voice to sing. for context, i grew up learning a style of indian classical music called carnatic music, which is very heavy on tonal embellishment and very intricate riffs. and this definitely bleeds into mainstream music here. for context here's a song i love that leans into classical elements while still being pop https://youtu.be/zWEOx7TSM6I?si=WEfPpre6FvkrR4WR and this guy is one of the best in the industry, but you do need a very high entry level of this kind of skill to get in. and I love k pop music, i truly do, but there's a definite difference in the level of vocal technique I expect in a k pop song vs a bollywood song, even in the vocal forward ballads. all of which is to say while I do appreciate people who hit the high notes at the end of the bridge, there's people (here's a non-exhaustive list: onew, jonghyun, suho, taeyeon, taeil, doyoung, dokyeom) who know how to use their voices to their best. who know how to play with a simple melody to make it interesting while still keeping it at a level where it remains a balanced group song (which is precisely why I will fight for solo albums for all of these people). and they're all very expressive singers, which I think is the most important part. could they all do carnatic riffs? probably not any time soon, it would take years of training.

Hiii, Oh, Bangchan also said something similar to that and I do agree, holding a high note is definitely a skill within itself but it's not the sole indicator of a great vocalist. Like vocal control and knowing how to work with your voice is really important. I went to a magnet school in elementary, in 5th grade you get the chance to spend the final hour in an elective. So even though I really really wanted dance, I was too self conscious and chose music. And they did not go easy on us 5th graders. So there's so much that goes into vocal practice and training. And you can really tell when someone really mastered their voice as an instrument such as Sir Patrick Stump, vs Brandon who just goes "hey look what I can do". Also like with the singer you sent you can tell that years of training went into creating the control he has on his voice. Also I got so invested in the music video it was all so wonderful. I want to bring up Felix who yes is more of a rapper but his vocal range is unbelievable. Since his voice naturally is very deep the way that he can manipulate it depending on what is needed is amazing. deeper voices tend to not be as versatile. But his is, I would love to see what more vocal training and focus on singing could do for him. I love Onews voice, I love Onew. He's my favorite little guy. SM does have amazing vocalists. I mean, on one hand, I like studying. Be it self studying, learning at school, or just finding out about some random facts in general. I do. I really, really, do. I genuinely loves studying and learning. In fact, there was a short period of time where I fantasized to expand my life, for just a little more longer - so that I'll have more time to learn. Pretty childish, isn't it?

But on the other hand, studying seriously and get good grades is also something I'm afraid of. It's not something about myself, I like the satisfaction I feel when I achieve high grades and got myself a nice report card. What I actually don't like is the expectations that comes with it.

Perhaps it's just me being a coward and paranoid about a nonexistent threat. Perhaps it's just me having impostor syndrome and is simply scared of failing to do it again. Perhaps it is the disappointed looks and the complains I got when I failed to be in the top 5 of the class for the first time.

Perhaps it is as simple as a gifted kid burn out.

I can't even remember when, maybe because I wasn't even aware of it. Before I knew it, I have already fallen into the dark pit of depression. I lost all of my motivation to study, my grades dropped instantly - there were even more disapproving looks and stares come in.

Yet I still managed to be the honored students, how surprising. In fact, I never lose that title even for once.

I gradually lost the courage to raise my hands during class too. "What if I'm wrong? I gave my teacher the expectations that I can answer this, but it'll be embarrassing if I get it wrong". I'm scared to get bad grade. I will easily give up on any new skill if I don't succeed at it on the first try, because I'll feel horrible at myself thinking I'm not good enough, I'm not talented enough.

I don't want to make myself stand out. I'm terrified that if I did then everyone will have their own image of me. And they will gave me disappointing looks all over again, if I failed to live up to that image.

Okay, I have been around on tiktok giftedkidburnout tags for a while bc I need my daily dose of comfort knowing Im not a total weirdo and that there are people like me.

Apparently people are having a debate about what is a gifted kid, and are saying people claiming they fall out after elementary school are not considered gifted, that they are just average.

i'm not going to dive into that whole thing, since this is meant to focus about me so.

Yes, I shined like the brightest star in elementary school. Straight A's, participates in contests and all, top 5 of the class, "excellent student" title and all. Until I wasn't, I failed out from the top 5 because my Music wasn't good or something. Then my mom and grams won't stop talking about it every night for the next 2 years or so, which, obviously, made me extremely insecure about myself and feel super horrible. Then, I rolled in middle school. Not a single soul told me how massively middle school is different from elementary school. That, and my growing self doubt make me lost all interests in studying and got me super stresses. I did get bad grades everynow and then, but here's the thing:

I was still the honored student by spending zero efforts.

Like I don't even know how. Please don't ask me. I don't remember anything. But I do remember not even studying for tests, not focusing during classes, only prepare for the bigger exams (mid terms and finals) except it's only for one night and its the night before the exam day. I also remember borrowing my friends' notes, read it a few time with 15min left before the test, then take the test almost effortlessly 💀💀💀 boom, that's how you be a honored student for years.

Also. It's a norm to take extra classes here, (or Asia in general i believe). I take none. I literally have so much free time compared to my peers thay they are always shocked by the fact I don't take any extra classes and yet still do good in schools.

Then moving on to highschool. Same olde habits: not studying for test, I do pay attention in class this time tho, I also did try to be more prepared for bigger exams. Keyword, try. I spend my days playing games for both of the semesters, spend the littlest effort at the finals and boom honored student again D:

There was a time I was convinced by my friend to take an extra class during the summer with her. She said the teacher was legit good, passionate and all, and I'm scared I won't do good in the next year so yea, I'm in. The more the merrier right?

Turned out that teacher was legit for sure. He wants to make sure every student of his understands the lesson and no one get left behind, so he takes in very few students -> he can monitor our studying progress and observe & assist us better.

He also have a chart to record our studying progress and to analyze and evaluate our progess and all. He will have a small exam at the start of every session to test whether or not we understand the material from the previous day. That exams score will be entered into the aforementioned chart.

We also have assignments/homework everyday that need to be turned in on the next class (to ensure we can proper practice the material). If we failed to get the passing grade of that exam we will have to re-do the homework corresponding with that exam's lesson.

He also have a huge google sheet library consist of all of his lessons and lectures (in case we didn't fully understand the material/forgot it and needed some reminders), the details answer if we are stuck on our homework, extra practice sheets if we wanted that was handmade by him and all alike.

Okay, that's the introduction. So I take the class and oh boy it was well worth every penny my mom has to spent. He is sure some legit good teacher. The first days I wasn't really accustomed to his teachings, so I had to re-do the homeworks for like, 2 times. After that I just aced every test he gave me and never have to re-do anything again.

Here's the fun part: He complimented me that I'm serious about my study, and that I'll succeed in life with such a good a attitude (because my grades with him keep getting better n all)

Here's the fun in that part: I didn't do shit.

Like fr, I didn't do anything special. All I do is listen to his lectures carefully, finished his homeworks, and... wait for his next class day. I never went back to review the materials or to take any of his extra practice sheets. Like, none. My study plan wasn't changed even from the first day I take the class to the last day I studied. It was purely his good teachings (and perhaps my good brain idk??) that I seems to be improving 😭😭😭😭😭

The school's foundation day does not only happen after a day. It's a week of celebration for the foundation and, of course, free from homeworks and projects that students have to worry about. All their focus must be on having fun on those days and be active in participation. Some students never liked the thought about celebrating a foundation day, but you on the other hand, thought otherwise as it's your first time celebrating it with a friend, since you never really get to do it with any due to you practically being locked up in your house for almost all years of your life.

Now, you were away from your family and you got to finally do anything you wanted. For example, having a sugar daddy who gave you all the help you needed. Sure, at first, you were just doing it out of mere fun, but you never quite expected to actually grow feelings for the older male. You didn't know when it started, but the first time you ever felt the fluttering of butterflies in your stomach was when he became worried and concerned when you got sick after a very excessive practice, the day prior. You wanted to tell him so, so bad, but you didn't know how to.

You were scared that maybe you were crossing the line or coming off too strong or maybe he'd walk away if you broke the agreement. It first started with just you only being up for it because of the agreement. Though, you never really went as far as you giving him a good blow or having a steamy bath with him. Either way, he was still someone you could trust and the only person you could rant about all your problems. The thought of losing all these scared you the most.

Unlike some other people, Jaehyun was smart and was a successful businessman, owning one of the richest companies in the industry. Jaehyun, when he's not busy, he'd help you out with your math homeworks or would just do it for you, since he found it fun and easy. Sometimes, you think he's Einstein, reincarnated.

Jaehyun, besides his brains, is also fun to be with. He knows about your passion and talent for singing and dancing and your once dream to be an artist, so he would sometimes play loud music in the living room through the speakers and you two would be singing along, him making up lyrics when he have no idea what the song artist's saying in their song. He'd sometimes call them drunk, because they sounded like they were slurring their words, which you would always laugh to. Also, he'd let you teach him a few dance steps you saw on tiktok and you'd record it together, only for the fun of both of you.

You were seated by your section's booth and couldn't help, but crack a smile from the thought. That was until one of your classmates decided to cut the moment. "What's with the smile?" Jeno, one of your friends, questioned with a smirk whilst carrying a case of bottled apple juice, placing it beside the stand of the booth.

"Here to tease me, again?" You scoffed at him, as he shrugged his shoulders. You rolled your eyes at him and stood up from your seat before heading to the school's gate where the rest of the important necessitated items are waiting. You skipped along the way and stopped by the pick up truck that was parked at the parking lot. "Anything I can help with?" You asked with a smile.

"Here's the last of 'em." He gave you two cases of the bottled drinks, one stacked above the other making you grunt.

"This is heavy." You muttered under your breathe, your thin hands barely holding onto the handles. "Th-thanks." You told them your feet wobbling from the heavy weight of the trays.

Jeno who came walking back outside saw you struggling, making him chuckle deciding to help you. "Need help with that?"

"Yes, please." You said before passing the trays to Jeno carefully, so it doesn't topple over. "Thanks." You smiled at him, cracking your knuckles and shaking it to reduce the pain you felt on your hands.

"Welcome." He said, then walking back to the booth, with you beside him. "Ah, M/n. By the way, are you attending the practice this afternoon?"

"Yeah. Of course. Why do you ask?" You chuckled, kicking on a pebble that came your way.

"Oh, I just thought you'd be busy sucking your daddy's—"

"JENO!" You yelled at him with an evident blush on your face cutting him off to avoid anyone hearing what Jeno had to say. It's always been like this. Since the day you told him about having a sugar daddy, he'd always tease you no matter where you are or what you're doing. He'd always use your excuses against you and now, you're regretting ever telling him.

"Okay, okay. Damn." He laughed at your reaction, you staring daggers at him.

Just as you were about to spat back at him, you heard a group of girls' voices calling out to you. "M/n! M/n! M/n!" They were successful in gaining your attention, while they smiled running up towards you. "M/n! You didn't tell us you have a handsome brother..." One of them said, while batting their lashes.

You knitted your brows in confusion. "I have?" You asked the girls, who looked like they knew better and nodded their heads. First of all, you don't have a brother, but you have three sister, two are older and one is younger. Second, you don't even know who these girls were and yet, they mysteriously knew your name and who you were. "Wait, who are you talking—"

"M/n-ah." You heard that sweet raspy voice of the man you loved, your head snapping towards him who stood by the side of your booth. You guessed he was on his break, since he was still in his suit and it was already past twelve in the afternoon.

"Jaehyun!" You giggled as you ran to him, all the while opening his arms for you to throw yourself in. You gladly complied and wrapped your arms around him, the lot older male doing the same as he hung his long arms on your waist. You snuggled into his chest before you looked up at him to see him already looking down at you with a smile that displayed his deeply carved dimples. "What are you doing here? Aren't you busy?" He made you giggle when he patted your head and planted a kiss on your forehead.

"I wanted to see my baby." Jaehyun replied, then pouting. "I've been so tired lately."

You furrowed your brows in concern and hugged him tighter. "Can't you take a three days off?"

"I want to, but I got to keep the company running if I don't want it to fail." He answered you, making you nod your head.

Once the girls saw these, they quickly felt embarrassed and walked off without making a sound, Jeno laughing at them.

"Then, why don't I treat you to something sweet? How's that?" You wanted to do something for the older and this was the only thing you could ever think of.

The pout was still glued to his face when he looked back down at you. "Angel, we agreed that I would do the treating."

"Well, you're the one who needs my help, right now, so I want to do something for you, other than..." You cleared your throat and mumbled, "...the other things I do for you."

Jaehyun chuckled, as he finally gave in to your offer while he ruffled your hair. "Alright."

You pulled away from him once he had loosened his grip from around your waist. You took him by the wrist and told Jeno that you'd be somewhere else, leaving Jeno with the rest of the responsibilities, promising him to make up to it.

You were leading Jaehyun to the canteen, before he gently pulled on your hand. You turned your head towards him, your eyes moving down to where he held you. You chuckled and smiled. "What's wrong?"

"Can... I hold your hand, M/n?" The question took you aback, only since he never really asks those type of questions. Ones he only asks are some that goes by the line 'can you suck my dick?' or of some sort.

"Sure." You managed to smile from the obvious shock that got Jaehyun a little red. "You didn't even have to ask." You added to which he nodded to shyly. It would be times like this when you would forget that he is a good thirty years old because of his cute personality.

You two finally made it to the canteen, the taller male receiving a lot of stares from all those present inside. Jaehyun was yet to spot the attention he was gaining, but you were already feeling iffy even though you knew that those heart eyes were for Jaehyun. But, you couldn't help the feeling that those eyes didn't like you being around Jaehyun. "J-Jaehyun..." You squeaked out silently, tugging on the sleeve of his suit, taking his attention whilst smiling down at you. His smile faltered upon noticing how you looked subtly shaken and cowered in fear. "I.. I think we should leave."

"Baby, what's wrong? You look so tense." Jaehyun asked you out of pure concern, cupping your cheeks as he gently tilted your head upwards, so you could face him, but you removed his hands from your cheeks that got him almost shocked since you'd never really let yourself move away from his grasp, instead you would usually just lean into his touch and let yourself succumb to the warmth he was radiating, but this. This was different and he knew exactly that something was bothering you.

"Can we go, please?" You sounded like you were begging for you two to quickly move outside, leaving Jaehyun with no choice, but to nod his head and let you drag him out of the place. Alas, you were outside, but he never received even a word from you nor a hum, a sigh, nothing. Just complete silence.

He grew more worried thinking that he might have done something that he shouldn't have or said something that made you feel so uncomfortable. He was getting anxious as you continued to keep your mouth closed and never said a word. "Baby, you know you can trust me, right?" Jaehyun caressed your thumb in a comforting manner, his eyes showing how much he truly cared for you and how genuinely worried he was. He was scared that he might have done something wrong to you.

He himself never knew how it got to this. At first, just like you, he had only intended to find some fun in the relationship you both had and not actually grow some feelings towards you, but the first time he ever met you, all he ever had thought in his head was to protect you at all cost and give you everything you wanted, spoil you with all his money and riches, give you forehead kisses and pleasure that can make you see stars. "Sorry, sir. I'm quite busy, right now." You immediately cut him off and got inside the shop, Jaehyun following suit. Your eyes made its way back towards the older who was following behind you closely. You stopped in your tracks and turned around to look at him, retracting his body from looking through your shoulders, throughout the whole time smiling down at you with his dimples showing. "Excuse me, sir, but do I owe you with something?"

Jaehyun pursed his lips, thinking before smirking and leaning closer to your face, with you, all the while, pulling your head back. "Yes." He answered you with his hands shoved confidently inside his pants.

Your gaze averted from his mesmerizing eyes to the table that supported you and kept you from falling. You gulped and felt your lips go dry. "D-do you need money? I don't have much, but will 7,000 won be enough?" You fondled through your pockets and took out your wallet.

"What? No, no." He chuckled, one hand taken out from his pockets and scratching his eyebrows while he sighed. "I have an offer."

Your brows were pulled together looking up at him, curious. "What is it?"

"Give me your number and I'll tell you over the phone."

And that's how it all started. Of course, he told you about lying that you owed him something, either way you were thanking the God above that he created you as gullible as ever.

As of the moment, Jaehyun could only feel his nervousness rise as he continued to stare at your back. "M/n, please say something. You're making me feel so worried."

"Jaehyun..." You finally stopped walking and spoke, before throwing yourself into him, the impact suddenly taking all the air inside Jaehyun's lungs away. "Don't leave me... please." You pleaded, your arms around him going tighter.

Jaehyun softened and felt himself get blanketed over with relief. He raised his hand to put it on top of your head and caressed them softly and soothingly. "I won't, M/n. I promise you."

In the end, Jaehyun was the one who treated you with something to eat. You were sat at a bench near your class' booth, Jaehyun next to you, while you swayed your feet back and forth. "Hyunnie." You called out to him with a new nickname you came up with, Jaehyun choking on his burger letting out a few coughs while you patted his back, laughing. "How the hell do you eat a burger that it got you choking on it?"

His coughing finally stopped and looked at you with a surprised face. "The nickname. You never called me that before."

You pouted in reply and blushed in embarrassment. "Do you.. not like it?"

"No, of course not." He was quick to shake his head, then cleared his throat, looking away. "It's cute."

You were able to see the pink tint painting his cheeks that you always found cute, since it's a very rare sight to see. Teasingly, you peeked over and was able to confirm that he was, in fact, blushing from just the nickname you created. "Oh my gosh, you're blushing." You cooed and immediately, Jaehyun scoffed, facing you to land a small kiss on your lips that got you widening your eyes and wiping away the mocking smile you had on your face. Your fingers made its way up towards your lips, unable to speak.

"Now, tell me who's blushing." Jaehyun smirked.

You glared at him, but instead of feeling intimidated, he found it cute. "I'm just surprised, since you never really like to, er, kiss me on the lips." You whispered the last part, loud enough for only you and him to hear.

You two were so happy in each other's company, that you both forgot that Jaehyun had somewhere else to be. That being his work. He wouldn't have noticed the time passing, if it wasn't for the alarm he had set, knowing he'd lose track of time when he's around you.

You walked him to his car and saw him off, waving your hand at him, not leaving until he was finally out of sight. You put your hands back down and sighed happily, walking back towards where you should be: at the booth where you should be finishing the preparation.

"So, how was the quick date?" Jeno asked you with a smirk, the sleeves of his shirt pushed back inside the hole that connected it to the shirt, showing his perfectly built muscles.

"It was great! Save for the part where I received death glares at the canteen. That felt terrible." You shuddered at the thought, but smiled again. "That aside, it was great."

"Your schedule didn't change? Are there still room for practice later?" Jeno asked you for the nth time that day. He's been asking you since you entered the classroom.

"It didn't, Jeno. Why are you so eager with me being present in the practice?" You chuckled at him, deciding to help him pack the treat bags you will give out to your customers.

"I just can't be left alone there with people I don't know. I'm an awkward person." Jeno told you.

"Jeno. You're literally known by all the students here and you're scared because they're strangers to you? I bet they all even want to be friends with you." You said, but Jeno just shook his head, his hair moving along with him.

"No, M/n. You must and need to attend the practice, either way." Jeno demanded of you.

You rolled your eyes at him and sighed deeply through your nose in defeat. "Fine, fine." Jeno's eye smile appeared and let out a small 'yes' making you chuckle.

"Hey, M/n." A voice started from outside the booth and saw a girl with her arms crossed, looking down at you whilst you seated at the ground. You looked up at her, but she didn't look friendly. She looked angry than friendly.

Your eyes flickered toward Jeno, then back to the girl and smiled. "Yeah?"

"Don't give me that smile, you whore." She spat at you, all of a sudden.

Your eyes closed shut, your mouth wide open and your forefinger raised up while you pushed it towards her way and scoffing. Your eyelids tore open and you smirked at the girl. "Excuse me? Whore? Who you calling a whore?"

"Listen, midget—"

"No, you listen here, Barbie." You said, a mocking tone with the last word. "You full on plastic, bitch. Get away from my sight. You look like a parasite."

The girl gasped in shock and opted to pull on your hair, but Jeno held her by her wrist and angrily stared at her. "You heard him. Get away. I'm not afraid to punch a person, even a girl, if they're purpose was to mistreat and shame on an innocent person." Jeno threw her hand away like it was trash, sending the girl from moving two steps back before stomping her foot and turning on her heels to walk away.

You could still see Jeno glaring at the girl while you looked at him in shock. "Wow, wow. Look at you."

"Sh. I'm not done yet." Jeno hushed you, before he continued his work. "You were saying?"

"Nothing. Was just shocked you told that girl off. I could have handled myself just fine, but thanks to you, I'm saved from causing a ruckus." You said, Jeno huffing through the nose.

"Seriously, you." He sighed pinching the bridge of his nose and knitted his brows. "Stop making the problem bigger."

"No way. I need to put up a fight. If I don't, they'd see me as someone weak." You defended yourself.

"And you can't even handle death glares that's being sent towards you?"

You were about to speak and fight back, but he was right. "That's... that's a different matter."

"Sure, it isn't, M/n." He said rolling his eyes.

Later that afternoon, past 5 p.m., you and Jeno excused yourselves from the class, since you have a dance practice for your performance on the opening of the foundation day. Out of habit, you skipped beside Jeno who was happy that you got to attend the practice today. Again.

You never really liked the person who choreographed the whole song. It was under a genre you thought you could never pull off or fit in, so your confidence was at a very low level. During practices, though, you try your best not to make it obvious that you were uncomfortable for that certain concept, but you still had to be seen making a lot of mistakes, some of the other students who joined clearly agitated. You could only bow and bow and bow at the mistake you knew you clearly had done, feeling guilty for the reason why always had to start again from the top. The reason why you never really got along well with these students.

You have arrived at the practice room, taking quiet steps as you both entered the venue trying your best not to make a sound. The intense gazes you received from the other students didn't come unnoticed by you, the reason why you pulled your knees closer to your chest as you buried your face in it. Clearly, they were enjoying those two few days you were absent, since they got to finish practice early and with no interruption nor mistakes. But, now that you're around, they knew exactly what awaited them.

You and Jeno were the first ones to stand in position, the others following suit. The mentor's face lit up with an idea on his mind. "Can everyone please take a seat for a couple of minutes?" He smiled, then looking at you. "Except for you, L/n."

Jeno's eyes fell upon you, a worried look on his face, mouthing 'I'll be fine' to reassure him as he sat back down along with the other students until it was only you and the mentor left standing. "You think telling your 'boyfriend' about me would scare me?" He mocked you with your head still hung low. "You have to try better than that." He smirked, pulling a chair to seat on it. His legs were on either side of the chair, so his chest was pressed upon the back rest of the chair to face you. "Start."

You were startled by the sudden order and went into position, but you only started fidgeting out of fear. "Where... I.. sir.. Do I stand—"

"L/n!" He yelled at you, making you jump from the sudden raise of his voice. You knew telling Jaehyun was a bad idea. "Fix yourself, will you? The performance is due tomorrow and you're such a mess." The misery you were caged in were the happiness of the students as they started to giggle, your fist clenching hard until your knuckles turned white.

The music started, but you were still nowhere from moving your body. You just stood there, head hanging low while gnashing your teeth. You weren't angry at the mentor. You were angry at yourself. You were angry that you couldn't do any better. You practiced the dance so hard, yet it were still so far from perfecting it. You just wished some kind of spirit would possess you and lead your body.

The whole place started to laugh at you as they watched you shamelessly froze on your position. You felt a small jab on your ribs that made you open your clenched fists and saw Jeno standing right beside you with a grin on his face, your expression softening as he started to lead the dance. Slowly, you felt your own body move to the beat and rhythm of the song, being at the same flow with Jeno. The students only watched while the song ended.

A slow clap from your mentor was heard, a smile plastered on his face. "Way to impress me you two, huh?" He stood from the chair and waisted his arms. "L/n." His eyes moved to you, expecting yet another scolding. "I'm proud of you. Keep up that confidence and I just know you'll do great." You felt a smile creeping its way up to your face, before the mentor closed in on you and ruffled your hair. "Alright, everyone. From the top."

The practice ended at exactly eight o' clock in the evening and you were already feeling drained, your sweat soaked shirt sticking to your body. Your forehead glistened with sweat, that ran down to the side of your cheeks. You panted heavily and flopped your body down on the polished floor.

Why that late you ask? Well, you and Jeno decided to stay for a few hours to polish the dance, him pointing out your mistakes and going back to the steps to correct you. You were grateful Jeno was a very patient guy, so whenever you made a mistake or wasn't executing the dance properly, he'd just chuckle and help you with your 'cute mistakes', at least that's what he called it.

"Finally..." You panted, Jeno settling himself beside you, his limbs sprawled all over the floor. "Done."

"You did so great, M/n! I knew you could pull this off." Jeno gave you a compliment that made you giggle, a hand on your chest to catch your breathe.

"And it was all thanks to you." You told him.

Jeno shook his head. "Ey. The only thing I did was help your body to loosen up."

"Exactly." The cute noises coming out of your mouth once more. "Do you think we should practice more?" You asked the older who moved his head to look at you.

"Still up for one more?" He smiled knowingly at you, while you nodded at him. You both stood up from where you both lied and you went to your position with Jeno moving to the speakers to play the song for the last time.

The minute you both finished, you were so exhausted that your knees couldn't hold themselves up anymore and you fell to the ground, groaning. You were panting heavily, starting to even your breathing at the same time laughing proudly at yourself for how well you've done. "When I get home, I'm gonna take a shower and then, throw myself on the bed and sleep."

Jeno could only laugh and you two were left with half an hour talking about all the things in life. You listened to him rant about how the mentor was being more harsh on you than the other students, but you only shook the topic off telling him that it no longer mattered and that he should already move on. You had also thanked him for helping you, during that time when you had to do the dance routine all by yourself. You really didn't know what else to do than to just stand there and sulk.

A few minutes later, both of you were now starting to pack, Jeno having to make a quick visit to the restroom, leaving you all alone inside the studio. You were changing into a dry shirt, when the voice of the janitress from behind the window made your body go tense as you jumped and turned towards her. "Oh, fuck." You sighed out in relief, holding your hand close to your chest. "You scared me, ma'am."

Her eyes turned into those that looked like crescents and smiled. "My bad. Probably shouldn't have passed by unannounced." She nodded and proceeded to mop the hallway floor.

You were about to ask her about a certain matter that was troubling you, but when you lifted your head to face the woman, she was not there anymore. "Uh.. probably left for something." You shrugged it off and went back to scrolling through your feeds, the certain feeling of being watched sending chills down your spine. The silence was so deafening that you started to whistle to a song you were currently into, just to help calm the unnerving feeling. You started to feel all the hair on your body stand on its end when a very harsh opening of the door sent you off flying, then to the ground your heart beating so fast. "Shit!"

Jeno was obviously confused why you got so scared by him just pushing the door open, but he was also laughing at your state which made you glare at him. He helped you stand back up to your feet, as you dusted your pants from any invisible dirt. "What the hell happened to you?"

"You scared the shits out of me. That's what happened." You scoffed at him, hitching your back higher onto your shoulders. "Let's go." You two vacated the room, making sure to lock it, but you told Jeno not to since the janitress was still yet to finish cleaning, but Jeno was greatly puzzled at what you had said.

"What in the world are you talking about?" Jeno laughed lightly before proceeding to lock the door and hung an arm around your shoulder.

"I saw her through the window." You added.

Jeno shook his head in disbelief and didn't fall for your trick to scare him off. "First, the school does not hire a janitress or a janitor, since they have working students. Second, so the dance major students don't get distracted, the window inside the room is tinted, so you basically don't see anything outside."

You felt your heart sink at the revelation as you felt all your blood get drained. "Are you... s-sure?"

"Yeah." Jeno answered your question. You slowly turned your head back towards the room, the windows and saw a black figure waving their hands at you that made you sprinting off to the entrance, leaving a dumbfounded Jeno as he followed behind you. "What the hell, M/n?"

"Shut... up! You were not the one left inside the dance room, so you wouldn't know how much I'm fucking scared, right—"

"M/n!"

"FUCK!" You screamed on the top of your lungs, stomping your foot and punching the air for no apparent reason. "Jaehyun, you... nevermind. Just take me home, please. I think I'm already fucking wasted." Jaehyun, who was on his casual attire, approached you and placed a kiss on top of your head.

You found your way in the lobby of your school looking for your dad. He was stood next to your grandparents, holding a bouquet of flowers. You smiled hugging him.

Sebastian did his best to hold in his laughter as he watched you belting out to music. Doing a funny dance, holding you hairbrush like a microphone. He pulled his phone out and began filming.

"You held me down, but I got up already brushing off the dust." You sang along. "You hear my voice, you hear that sound."

"Like thunder, gonna shake the ground." Sebastian joined. You screamed turning around dropping the hair brush. "You held me down, but I got up." He motioned for you to keep singing. You smiled joining in.

A scream was heard through the penthouse. Sebastian jumped to his feet running out of his office toward the sound. Almost falling a few times before he made it to the living room, more importantly by the door. He sees you a big smile on your face, hugging a piece of paper to your chest other mail scattered on the floor around your feet. He immediately felt relief seeing you okay.

"What happened?" He asked walking closer careful to not step on the other mail.

"I got in!" You said looking at him with such joy he has never seen before.

"In what?" He smiled.

I got in my dream school!!!" You exclaimed. He gasped hugging you.

"I'm so proud of you!" He said. His baby girl all grown up, leaving for college this summer.

Sebastian was confused, you had been away at college for about three months, it was November now. He wasn't expecting you to come home until Thanksgiving, but you called him told him you'd be home for the weekend and staying during Thanksgiving break. He didn't know why though. You told him you were having a Friendsgiving with your roommate and some other friends you made at college this weekend then you'd start heading down the next morning. Though you called him Friday and told him you were on your way. So Saturday morning he was up and watching for you to get there.

"Dad?" You hollered walking into the penthouse. He came around the corner frowning when he saw you. What looked like dried tears on your cheeks and his old college hoodie you stole from him when you were 7, a clear sign you were sad.

"Dragă? What happened?" He immediately brought you into a hug. You broke, you tried all night to stay strong but here you were. You never could stay strong around your dad.

"H-he broke up with me." You choked out. He knew who you were talking about, your boyfriend Kevin. You and Kevin had been dating during senior year of high school and decided to try to take a chance at long distance.

"Oh prinţesă." He mumbled.

"He met someone new!" You cried. "I wasn't good enough."

"Hey. No, you don't talk about yourself like that." He pulled away putting his hands on your shoulders. "Ești perfect, frumos, nu vorbești rău despre tine! A intelege?" You knew he was serious when he broke out the Romanian. It was rare for him to talk to you in Romanian, it was more common for you two to talk to your grandmother in Romanian but it was only pulled out for you when you were in trouble. Love hadn’t exactly been kind to you in the past. You’d always been the type to fall fast and hard, from the little crush you’d harbored on Sam from your kindergarten class to Andrew, the high school boyfriend you’d really thought would be “the one.” Until you’d gone off to separate colleges and he’d decided his time was better spent partying with sorority girls, that is. You’d been heartbroken for a while, but people liked to remind you that you were young and had plenty of time to find love.

You weren’t always so sure of that yourself.

When you came across Robert Thomas, 22, 10 miles away, on Tinder, you’d assumed it was a catfish attempt. You’d swiped right anyway, because, if nothing else, it would provide you with some entertainment. Except then you’d matched, and you’d started talking, and you’d agreed to meet up with him.

Walked in, expecting you'd be late But you got here early and you stand and wave

You’d agreed to meet at the Kaldi’s in downtown Clayton. You didn’t have any morning classes that day, and the Blues had flown in late from a road trip the night before, which meant you could make the short drive from SLU’s campus late enough that you missed the morning rush. You arrived a few minutes before your 9:30 meetup time, and absently scanned the tables for an empty one. Someone stood up from a table in the corner by the windows and waved at you, and, with a start, you realized it was Robby. You glanced at your watch to make sure you weren’t late as you walked over to him, but you were both right on time.

“I wasn’t sure you’d be here,” you admitted.

Robby huffed out a quiet laugh. He already had a coffee and a muffin in front of his seat, but he stayed standing. “Here, what do you want to order?” he asked. “On me.” Up close, you could see bags under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept at all the night before, but he was smiling, flashing that missing tooth.

You tried to protest, but Robby was having none of it, calmly prodding you towards the counter, where the barista was smiling at the two of you. Coffee and breakfast clutched safely in your hand, Robby led you back to the table. He pulled your chair out with a shy smile before darting back around the table to his own seat.

You had the little cafe mostly to yourselves, quiet around you except for soft music playing over the speakers. Small talk was easy between you two. (It helped that you’d been talking for weeks over Tinder.) Robby asked about your classes, you asked about practices. It was boring and predictable and...nice. Robby seemed interested in what you were saying to him, even when you just got caught up complaining about the stupid amount of work one of your professors kept piling on you. He stuck his tongue out at you when you teased him after he told you how he kept messing up a drill during practice the week before.

We tell stories and you don't know why I'm coming off a little shy, but I do

It was too far to walk to Shaw Park from where you were, but you both ordered a second coffee to-go after you finished eating and headed out into the fall air and down Carondelet, anyway. Robby was doing most of the talking, chattering about his teammates, or the Tkachuks, or some dumb TikTok Wally sent him. You were trying your best to keep up, but he talked so easily, and you were starting to feel a little overwhelmed.

You didn’t think Robby noticed or minded much as you wandered the streets of Clayton. He seemed content to fill the space between you with words. As you waited at a red light to cross Central, Robby gestured so broadly with both hands that he nearly smacked a harried looking lawyer standing next to you. Your giggles carried you the rest of the way down the block. You liked Robby’s laugh, and you realized then that you wanted to keep hearing it.

Robby purposely bumped into you as you turned a corner, and you grabbed onto his arm to keep your balance. You didn’t let go, though, and you kept your arm linked with his.

But on a Wednesday in a café, I watched it begin again

Eventually, you made it back to the Kaldi’s storefront. The fall air was cool, but the buildings rising up around you sheltered you a little from the wind. You were still clutching your empty to-go cup. Next to you, Robby shoved his hands in his pockets and scuffed the toe of his tennis shoe along the sidewalk awkwardly. For the first time all morning, you were both quiet.

“This was nice, I had fun,” you said finally.

Robby smiled wryly at you. “That’s all I get? ‘Nice, fun?’”

You elbowed him. “Knock it off, you know what I mean,” you said.

“Does this mean I can see you again?” Robby asked, taking a step closer to you.

You tilted your chin to look up at him. “Hmm,” you said, pretending to think. “I guess you can have a second date,” you told him.

Robby fist pumped, and you burst out laughing. He grinned crookedly at you. “I’ll text you?” he asked.

“Yeah, yeah, you can,” you said, still smiling.

“Cool.”

And then, quickly, before he could think better of it, Robby ducked and pressed a kiss to your cheek. You hid your smile in your scarf as you watched him walk away.

° Chan always called you cute, you would try your hardest to be hot... But he'd still see you as an adorable lil bean. You became worried that he didn't see you in a sexual way at all, and decided to see if you could possibly get him flustered by doing such a dirty dance.

° You wore the sexiest outfit in your closet, leaving barely anything to the imagination. You walked into Chan's studio with a large trench coat hiding the treat you had in store for your boyfriend. Noticing Chan was alone, you decided to let the coat drop to your feet.

° Blush crept onto his cheeks, bottom lip bittne by his teeth. It was making a mark on him, until you started the music. That song was too much of a meme to be sexy to him, especially since Felix tried to attempt it in front of him once and gave up half way.

° Even if you looked extremely sexy while pounding into the ground, he couldn't help but giggle by the choice of song. If it were something more sensual and romantic, than he would be on the ground with you. But WAP turned him off quite a bit.

"Chan! I wanted to be sexy... Am I not hot?"

"Of course you are hot, it's just the song."

° Minho is a tease who loves you very much, but is not a fan of that trend. He can't help but cringe when he sees someone do it in public for everyone to see, he doesn't know why but it just effects him a lot in all of the wrong ways. But you didn't know this.

° While he alone in the dance practice room, you walked in with WAP blaring from your phone. You then put it on the bench and began to dance along with it perfectly, the phone was recording everything. Including Minho's uncomfortable expression.

° He was impressed by your hips, but the whole song and trend gave him terrible flashbacks to the tiktok he witnessed before. Even if he wanted to smile, it came off very fake or turned into some mixture of cringe and fake happiness.

° Minho did not want to hurt your feelings, but he truly couldn't help it when you did the WAP dance. You thought he was teasing you and trying to annoy you, and you continue to think that til this day. But he was truly not impressed by that trend that you did.

"I know you secretly loved it, don't deny it."

"Oh trust me, I won't deny anything."

Changbin

° You were trying so hard to learn this dance, you wanted to do it for yourself and to also impress your boyfriend. Even when you failed miserabley, Changbin still sent hearts of encouragement and asked if you could give him another show of it.

° He would be lying if he denied that he didn't get a tiny bit turned on when you pounded into the ground, but he didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable so he didn't tell you unless you noticed or asked him about it. Which you did a couple of times.

° Wonders how your body can move so smoothly while doing such harsh and sexual moves, especially when it comes to the twerking. You challenged Changbin to twerk with you, and you weren't surprised when he was actually pretty good at it.

° Will record the challenge, helping you edit it and re recording it if you don't like the final product. Changbin is supportive of your interests and even if he isn't overly into WAP, he finds anything you do breathtaking. And think your better than Cardi B herself.

° Truly conflicted. He is impressed by your dance skills, but also doesn't want your followers to see you dancing so proactively. He wants to be the only one to see you acting this way, but he also finds it a bit amusing on how serious you seem.

° Your dancing to a song called 'Wet Ass Pussy' and yet your face seems like your doing an interview at the job of your dreams. This will calm his nerves a tiny bit, knowing you aren't doing this to get attention. But rather because you're bored and wanted to.

° Will sometimes hum along to the song while it's playing, getting shy if he reads out the dirty lyrics about sex. Even though it has become more of a meme than a sensual getting it on song, it still makes him flustered because of how raunchy it is.

° Claps when you've finally succeeded the dance, smiling proudly since he saw how hard you worked for a non benefitial trend. Once you posted the challenge, he would like and save it immediately. Secretly watching it while he goes on tour.

"Does it hurt when you hump the ground?"

"You get used to it after a while."

Han

° Knew that you were going to want to do it, you like to try out different trends to see if you like them or not. He just wasn't expecting to see you do WAP so closely, he thought he'd scroll through tik tok and then you'd be twerking on his feed.

° He was scrolling through Instagram when you got up and began to do the dance, he was trying to comprehend what was going on since you did so out of the blue. Became your personal cheerleader when you went into the splits, hyping you up quite a bit.

° Won't see it as a sensual dance, is more impressed than turned on. He'll high five you afterwards, and then 'high fives' your toosh for doing most of the work. You will become flustered with his compliments, giggling as he drums your bottom teasingly.

° Goes through your social media accounts later, to make sure there aren't any pervs commenting degrading things. If he sees any he'll report them, knowing he is the only one to say things such as 'that's some fine peice of ass' to you.

"Baby, are you scrolling my comments?"

Felix

° Tik tok master, already knows all of the moves and probably taught you them. Felix likes to boost your confidence up and become your own personal happiness, even if you thought you looked cringey and horrid in the video, he'd tell you the opposite.

° Won't force you to do it in front of people or even post the video, even though you look amazing he still doesn't mind if keeping it private. Is a protective sunshine who would feel a bit of relief if you didn't post it, but would never ever admit that to you.

° When you were your best friend was visiting, you both decided to attempt the popular trend. She stopped half way through do to laughter, while you kept going. Felix rushed to you from the kitchen, beginning to throw money on you to enhance the laughter.

° If you get embarrassed when dialing one of the many attempts, he'll comfort you and shower you with kisses til you feel better. Over all he is a sweetheart who cherishes your happiness, and he'll do anything to hear your beautiful laugh and see your smile.

"Don't be shy love *kiss* you were great. *kiss*."

Seungmin

° Knew you were on tik tok, and witnessed you attempt a couple of trends, mosy dance challenges. But never expected you to do WAP, you both were generally introverted and were much more soft with each other in public rather than all over each other.

° Even in photos of you two together, the most anyone will see is hand holding. That's why many people were surprised to see you doing such a bold and raunchy dance for many people to see, the reason behind it was a dare from your close friend.

° A staff member showed him the video, giggling as they couldn't beleive what you did. Seungmin smiled, seeing you so confident and bold made him feel proud. He wasn't upset or jealous in the slightest, he was extactic to see you be so confident.

° When he arrived home, you asked him about his opinion on the video. He could tell you didn't like it and were self conscious about it. So instead o replying at first, he embraced you in a gentle hug. Rubbing your shoulder blades as he complimented you.

"You looked stunning in the video."

"A-are you sure? Don't lie to me Seungmin."

Jeongin

° Stray kids knew you for as long as they knew Jeongin, you were his best friend turned lover and they saw you as family. That is why it made it 10x more awkward for both you and Jeongin when Felix noticed your newest post on tik tok.

° You thought you saved it privately, and did NOT want it to be public due to having such an open account with many followers. Your family even followed your account, so this made you nearly pass out knowing many people have already seen this video.

° You immediately deleted the video, even though it was far too late. Jeongin was a bit shy from witnessing you do such a raunchy dance, but he wanted to comfort you nonetheless. His ears were bright pink as you clung onto him, trying to calm down.

° A couple days after the incident, Minho and Han would tease you lightly. Jeongin occasionally joined in, unless he noticed you became very flustered and would then put a stop to the teasing. He still found it adorable how embarrassed you were of the video.

"What if my mom saw this!?"

"... What if she didn't. There is a chance."

**this review has little-to-no spoilers**

It was a long time coming, but I finally watched Encanto and I regret not watching it sooner. I wasted precious time procrastinating when I should've been rewatching!

This movie is one that I would recommend everyone to watch because of the relatability. Encanto is everything Disney stands for, it's got heart, its got family and it's got magic. Encanto doesn't just follow typical picture perfect Disney format- and that is why I would recommend it to everyone. The aspects of hearts isn't just love, it's real heart break and grief. It's not just family, it's a family broken by suffering (which what family during covid isn't facing some of this). It's not just magic, it's family's high expectations for genetics to always make the definition of picture perfect offspring.

The details in this movie like something as simple as interesting "side" characters are just outstanding to say the least. There isn't a single character I wish I saw less of, if anything I was left wanting a spin off movie for each character. Each character brings something else that represents the very real pressures that occur in a family, the average high expectations that may not be directly placed on a member, but they feel is there.

If the movie itself wasn't good enough, the music was the new soundtrack to my existence. The extraordinary soundtrack did not come as a suprise to myself as I have been a Lin-Manuel Miranda fan for quite some time now- his name has become a stamp of approval in my mind. My favourite songs for just overall wow factor were We Don't Talk About Bruno (obviously) and Surface Pressure. These songs have been stuck in my head since before I even watched the movie, thanks to TikTok!

The only reason why I didn't rank this movie as a perfect ten is because it felt slightly rushed at certain points. I understand for most children based media it is shorter due to shortened attention spans, and so it isn't a huge downfall in my opinion.

Easily my favourite movie I've seen in months. Filled with iconic scenes and loveable characters, this movie has my heart. When it comes to my quest to find the perfect media for a "new adult" to consume, I am pleasantly surprised to report this is close to perfect! This movie doesn't just need a second, it deserves one. There is so much to explore so many Madrigals I want to know more about. Based on what I saw in the first movie, I know an encore performance would be just as outstanding.
