We are told at the very start of the manga that "if you want to know a person, you need to find out what makes them angry"
Tumblr media
So I want to talk about Gon, and what makes him angry.
Gon is hard to anger, especially for a kid: He wasn't angry at his dad for abandoning him and never visiting, he wasn't angry at Mito for lying that his parents died, he wasn't angry when Leorio made everyone lose 50 hours at the trick tower despite revealing later in Hanzo's fight that his hope to meet his 'amazing hunter dad' would vanish if couldn't finish the exam on his first try like Ging did (there is no "better luck in the next exam" for Gon), he never gets jealous when Killua shows more strength or knowledge than him even though they are the same age and he used to be very powerful on his little island, and so on.
But is not hard for Gon to get angry for the ones he loves and admires: Be it angry for their safety or about people disrespecting their wishes.
Tumblr media
His anger is stronger when his friend's lives are at risk, their safety triumphs over his wish to respect what they want.
Tumblr media
But he doesn't care about his own life.
Tumblr media
He is never angry when people hurt him. As Hanzo had put it, even injuries as severe as broken bones don't matter to Gon.
Tumblr media
But Gon was visibly frustrated in Hanzo's fight.
He wants to win. And he wants to be the one to win not for Hanzo to forfeit. He wants proof that he is strong and capable and worthy of being in the last phase, aware he was only here because Hisoka let him pass.
Tumblr media
The only person Gon feels any anger towards at the end of the exam is himself for being a hunter but not feeling like he is worth it of the title.
Tumblr media
Gon is always the most angry at himself.
When Kite kills a foxbear, punching Gon for trespassing in their territory, Gon isn't angry at him or the fox bear that attacked him, he puts the full blame on himself and tries to make up for it by raising Kon.
When Killua goes 'back home' he gets angry at Illumi for making Killua do things he doesn't want, but he also blames himself for not being there for Killua when his fight with Illumi happened.
Similarly, his instinct when he learned, without a doubt, that Kite is beyond saving, was to blame himself.
Tumblr media
He isn't thinking about Pitou, isn't even seeing them, blinded by Kite and his own guilt.
This quest for 'revenge' was never about Pitou, it was always about healing Kite. And since Pitou can't heal the dead, Gon blames himself, he is angry at himself.
Pitou is the one that killed him. Killua was the one that was terrified by Pitou's aura and knocked Gon unconscious to run. Kite was the one that told them to run. Gon is far from the "reason kite died" but he loves and respect Kite and Killua, so he obviously doesn't see anything wrong, he never once blames Killua for what happened.
In fact... He had thanked him
Tumblr media
And Gon is genuinely grateful here.
It breaks my heart how much he loves and trusts his friends, eager to share all his good times and victories with them. Wanting them by his side always, no matter how personal his journey is.
Tumblr media
But when something bad happens he wants to 'make it better' alone. Is never "we will fix this" is always "I will", because he doesn't want to trouble them, be it by his own emotions, or outside dangers.
Gon never blames his friends, so he is the one responsible when bad things happen, the only one that needs to fix any problem. And if death is a risk, he will immediately assign the lethal job to himself, and himself only.
Tumblr media
Gon isolates himself when things get hard but he still doesn't want to be alone. He craves company and support more than ever when he is hurt.
Tumblr media
But he doesn't like to feel weak or helpless, so asking for help or opening up is extremely hard. He mostly just gets angry at himself for feeling how he feels and refuse to make it someone else's problem.
He didn't cry after stealing Hisoka's badge but he was feeling helpless and unworthy so he sucked it up and went to do better, it was only after Kurapika asked directly if he was okay that he lowered his walls and found himself crying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is just a kid, he can't process his self hate, frustration, or guilt well, and his way to feel better is to help others, be useful and powerful. But sometimes that's not enough, or he simply can't help.
So he constantly finds himself in situations where he gets injured, physical pain is something that he is more used to, that it's easier to process: He let a foxbear cub claws his shoulders after his actions make Kite kill the cub's mother, he let 'puppet kite' hit him even when he learned its robotic attack pattern, he feels weak and frustrated because 'The Bomber' wasn't taking him seriously and he hates feeling weak, so he delayed Killua's plan and got his hands destroyed to prove to himself that he can do it.
But helping others is still the clear priority over hurting himself: The best example to show this is when he visits the Zoldycks. He never took his anger about the Zoldyck family's isolation on Canary when he visited Killua, letting her knock him down again and again in silence for a while before expressing his frustrations with how unfair it is that he need to go through trials to visit a friend.
And when Killua's mom visited, he prioritized canary over his goal.
Tumblr media
Gon is just... kind. Is far easier for him to care about strangers than it is for him to be angry.
Tumblr media
Gon is smart, but he is not the best at figuring out people when they don't tell him how they feel, especially when Gon is annoyed or unsatisfied.
Tumblr media
So I am not surprised he assumed cool-headed killua, who hides all his pain and is so reliable and mature, "always cleaning up Gon's mess", wasn't in pain in the chimera ant arc. It’s like having someone say “be calm” when you’re angry, stating cold facts that only make you feel more incompetent in your emotional state.
It hurt because it feels like Killua, whose opinion Gon values so much, doesn't care about Kite, his super important mentor figure. And since Pitou’s behavior makes it so he can’t use them as an outlet for his emotions, this hint of anger and betrayal at Killua makes him lash out without thinking about his friend.
Tumblr media
But even in his blinding guilt and hatred, Killua is important enough to still be able to calm him down, and reminds him of his goal.
Gon doesn't understand Killua is hurt (since killua doesn't tell him) but at least... He is not alone.
Tumblr media
"I can't wait" --> He genuinely feels like Killua is as calm as he pretends to be, only he is the 'helpless and in pain' one in Gon's mind and so Killua could easily wait, but he personally can't. He is alone in his pain.
"how long must we wait?" --> Killua is here. Gon never feels truly alone with Killua by his side, he at least has the comfort of an anchor in these trying times.
Killua, who feels unwanted, hurt, and useless, also misunderstands Gon and leaves when Gon needed company the most. Is none of their faults, but it does make Gon's already incredibly bad state even worst.
There is no one but himself to calm him down when he hit his breaking point, and Gon isn't kind to himself.
Tumblr media
His 'fight' with Pitou wasn't revenge. It was a failed attempt to "get kite back" to "fix him" which failed, and he couldn't deal with the resulting grief, so he turned it all into a suicide attempt.
To me, Gon gets angry when he feels inadequate or that a loved one deserves better, he has self-centered tunnel vision when he gets angry, so he doesn't realize his anger-fueled actions might trouble others, but when he does he will make an effort to set aside his own goals for others.
Tumblr media
He is a good kid, a genuinely good kid with no self-love that is surrounded by adults that usually view him as a monster or a "admirable powerhouse" first and a child second, and it takes an enormous amount of strain to make him break.
He is a very strong kid, I wanna hug him.

Whenever you can I'd really like to hear your thoughts about this and if you think it's accurate! ❤️ I absolutely adore your hxh meta and can't wait to hear more!!!
Tumblr media
Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words, it means a lot to me! ❤️ These are fantastic observations and questions, as these traits are an important part of the basis of Gon's issues, and this tendency of his to rush into danger leads him into a lot of dark situations throughout the series. It's one of the most concerning aspects of his character.
His self-esteem issues are definitely at the root of this. Gon seems to have a fundamental belief that his life isn't worth much--hence why he tells Killua he's allowed to talk about dying, but Killua isn't. I think a big piece of this comes from the abandonment issues, as well as his issues with guilt (which I still need to write a post about). If even his own father won't stick around for him, what is he worth? And notice he frames Ging's choice in such a way where he doesn't assign blame to Ging--he believes that in a choice between him and being a Hunter, he must just be the inferior choice. Not a great basis for self-worth.
As much as he looks up to Kite, I don't think his encounter with Kite when he was younger helped--he was blamed directly for the mama foxbear's death and Kon becoming an orphan. And while I don't doubt at all that Mito loves him, I think Gon may see himself as a burden on her to a certain degree, and he tries to be as self-sufficient as possible as a result. (That's more of a headcanon of mine, but I do think the complex way their relationship is framed and Gon's behavior in the series supports this to a degree.)
Because he doesn't see his life as being worth much, he tries to take on everything alone, and he sees strength and power as a method to prove that he does have worth after all. If he can prove he's strong, maybe he isn't worthless after all! If he's strong, maybe he won't be a burden to others or unintentionally cause them harm (think about the mama foxbear, and ultimately Kite himself)! If he can become a Hunter and find Ging, maybe he can understand why Ging didn't stay with him, and he won't have to wonder why he left him behind any more!
I definitely think dangerous situations and escaping death give him a a sense that he is capable and worthy, plus it's a rush to him--a form of excitement and stimulation that he craves. Also, keep in mind that Gon grew up among nature, including many wild animals. While "survival of the fittest" is an oversimplification of how nature works, certainly at the same time, a weak animal is more likely to fall prey to a predator. So of course being strong is the more advantageous position to be in, and especially as a person who isn't sure of his worth or his place in the world.
I think he believes the stronger he becomes, the more dangerous situations he can escape, and the more strong enemies he can defeat, the more capable and worthy he'll feel. Because of how much his self-esteem then hinges on whether he's strong or not, things like Hisoka punching him and giving him his badge make Gon struggle to feel like he has value. The times we see Gon cry, like in his conversation with Kurapika in the airship about that moment with Hisoka, or in the scene after he couldn't win against Knuckle and couldn't go to NGL to rescue Kite, often relate directly to him not feeling strong enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also yet again (back to my usual refrain), this is in fact another subversion of shounen expectations. Shounen protagonists tend to be energetic and feisty teen boys who throw themselves into dangerous situations easily, and in most shounen series this is a trait that's not treated with much weight--they can handle it, nothing truly bad generally happens to them as a result, this trait of theirs is treated as something brave and admirable and "cool."
But with Gon, Togashi does give it weight--others worry about him and comment on this trait of his, his recklessness has real costs for him that escalate over time (think about the results of Gon tailing Hisoka in the Hunter Exam, Gon vs Gido, the end of Greed Island, and of course CAA), and ultimately his disregard for his own worth and safety essentially leads him to throw away his own life. In Gon, it's not an admirable trait, but a concerning and tragic one, with deep roots in his psyche.
It's brilliant to me how many of Gon's traits all link together--his low self-esteem comes from his abandonment issues and leads to his recklessness, he has a selfish streak because he's young and still somewhat immature and grew up isolated, and his short-sightedness as a result of that manifests in his sense of morality not being fully developed. And yet even with all of that, he's still a sweet, cheerful, kind, smart, and encouraging boy. I absolutely love the complexity of his character and how, if you carefully analyze him, the way he is makes so much sense.
Thank you for asking!

thinking about the way Kite, who was born human and is a hunter and is in that way not a part of nature yet chooses to be kind and reverent of the natural world rather than exploiting his strength upon it, being forced to kill that mother Foxbear just for protecting her cubs and being so upset about it because he understood what she was doing was foreshadowing for how Kite would sacrifice himself for HIS little ones. even though he was attacked by something that was technically closer to nature than him, one of the species he studies, it broke the chain of reason and need in its practice of hunting, the same way Kite feels guilty that he does. imagine how awful for one of the only humans, much less hunters, who respect nature properly to be killed by the only thing (besides humans) in nature that doesn't respect itself, doesn't understand the natural balance and live in harmony with it. just just Kite spent most of his life as an outcast from other people and found company in nature, he learned how important it is and he devoted his life to preserving and protecting it only to be slaughtered by it for the sake of his boys. do you think he took some comfort as he died in that he completed his natural cycle by defending them.

Collab between me and @enchiibean!! I wrote a 700 word drabble, and they drew for it!!!
---
The weird thing about meeting Gon’s aunt is that she’s so nice to Killua.
Not that he expected her to be like his mom, but part of him still wants to talk back like he does at home. Instead, he ends up frozen, confused by the weird feeling when Mito asks him if she can clean his clothes, telling him to take a bath or help Gon set the table.
It’s just not normal. Not for Killua.
And yet, when her hand reaches out to touch his shoulder, he ends up melting into the warmth in it. There’s something easy about allowing her to take care of her the same way she takes care of Gon—after all, Gon is a good person, the light to Killua’s shadow. So Mito must have had a hand in that, too.
Tumblr media
---
Killua doesn’t know why Whale Island feels so weird to him. Gon leads him through it, and Killua keeps getting startled by how loud the forest is. He almost wants to tiptoe around it, even as Gon makes noise beside him, following dirt trails toward the cliffs.
“I don’t know,“ Killua complains to Gon as they put out their campfire, above the precarious cliff and slow moving water. “It’s so different from Kukuroo Mountain. Mike keeps a lot of the noisier things out, so it’s not like I’m used to hearing foxbears stomp around.”
Gon looks up from the embers. “Is Mike quiet too?”
“Yeah,” Killua grins. “He’s super quiet. My dad trained him really well.” Just like he trained Killua, making sure he’s silent at all times.
“Hm,” Gon hums. “Is there anything you do like about Whale Island?”
Killua thinks for a minute. His eyes trail upwards at the stars they’d been looking at just a few minutes before. He thinks about Mito, and the warm welcome he’s received. Even sleeping is easier here, even if Killua gets woken up by unfamiliar noises every morning so far.
His eyes fall back to Gon. He’d called him his first friend—the embarrassment lit a flame in the center of his chest.
Killua glances away again. “I guess I like the stars here. I like the mansion and all that, but there’s no time to take in the sights. It’s boring.” Which is kind of why he feels so weird being here, taking up space that created Gon—Gon, who is grinning at him right now.
“I thought it was interesting!” Gon said. “I didn’t like it there, but it’s not boring.”
“Of course you think that,” Killua sighs.
Tumblr media
---
Killua closes the front door behind him, squinting as his eyes adjust to the bright blue sky.
Mito, laundry basket at her hip, turns her head. “Oh, hello Killua. Gon isn’t with you?” Behind her, bare clotheslines line up in neat rows.
“Nah,” Killua says. “He said he wanted to see if he could meet that foxbear he likes again. I can’t come with him, so I’m staying here until he comes back.” Suddenly, a sense of shyness overtakes him—he can’t remember feeling anything like this before. “I hope that’s okay.”
Mito’s smile is gentle. “Of course it’s okay. You can help me with the laundry, can’t you?”
Killua honestly hadn’t expected to be told to do that. He’s too used to his own home—the opposite of bright days and putting wet clothes out to dry. Finding something to do with himself is easy when she’s offering, so he accepts it.
Everything feels a little warmer here. It’s warmer because of Gon, and because of Mito.
Now that he’s left alone for the first time in a long time, he finds that it’s not so bad. Even after spending every day training with Gon, this is also so completely different—a different kind of warmth, a feeling of not caring that he doesn’t have Gon to push him into another adventure for the day.
Staying here while Gon does something important—that’s fine. He’s happy, even.
He doesn’t tell Mito this while they work, but he feels like he’s gained something—an experience he didn’t know he was missing. After asking Mito again to make sure he did it right, he steps back. He stands among the clothes he’d clumsily put up, and feels clean.

HxH (1999) is such a vibe.
It does so much better at characterizing Gon. The 2011 version skipped essential exposition like Gon meeting kite for the first time and befriending the forest creatures (most importantly the foxbear cub) which set up Gon’s success as a Hunter and his initial desire to become one after hearing about Ging from Kite.
But the 1999 version was allowed to have filler, so you get to see more of Gon’s backstory leading up to him leaving for the exam. I think the 2011 version really missed out on the opportunity to develop Gon’s relationships and characters, and that hurts the story later on, especially in the Chimera Ant Arc when we see Gon devastated after Kite’s death. This only makes sense if you understand that Kite was Gon’s only connection to a father figure (either seeing Kite as the father figure or as a connection to Ging). But since the 2011 version skips over this important connection, Kite’s death isn’t as impactful as it should be.
I also really love how the 1999 version characterizes Mito and her conflict over Gon wanting to become a hunter. She’s more flawed in the older version in that she’s seen trying to manipulate Gon into staying by lying to him about Ging and lashing out at Gon whenever he mentions Ging or becoming a hunter. We also get to see Mito conflict over wanting Gon to stay but also not wanting to hold him back from his dreams. This stuff happens to some degree in the 2011 version, but it’s glossed over in a way that makes Mito look excessively reasonable and understanding. She doesn’t want Gon to become a Hunter, but she’ll never stand in his way. Even though the end result is the same in the 1999 version, Mito *does* try to prevent Gon from becoming a hunter and only concedes when his stubbornness wins over hers. This makes for a much more realistic mother/son relationship, in my opinion AND it introduces us to Gon’s stubborn/determined personality as well as his willingness to forgive easily.
Just, overall the 1999 version does a better job at showing each character’s inner conflict, whether that’s Kurapika choosing between revenge for his lost family or starting a new one, Gon struggling after he’s humiliated by Hisoka, or Mito wanting to keep Gon forever.

I saw that your ask were open and I wanted to let you know you write the characters really well it’s okay 🥰
and to easy from the s/o
how about some head cannon of the Main four in HXH plus Illumi at a fair and trying to get a certain prize but struggling.
Hi, thank you for the ask! I'm not sure if this is answers the request, but I hope you enjoy! Also, I'm making these without an s/o, it's more platonic/friends-with-the-character. No one here really struggles but they do try nonetheless
HxH main four + Illumi attempt fair prizes
Gon
He wanted to try all of the foods at the fair first before trying prizes, but then one of them that was on fishing caught his eye and the two of you abandoned trying out the funnel cake stand
Fair games are not, well, very fair. However, because of Gon's crazy strength this task comes easily to him. The fish are supposed to be hard to draw out, but he just yanked and almost broke the stand haha
He ends up choosing a big foxbear plush (more or less because it reminds him of Whale Island)
Other than that, he might want to try those punching bag stands. He might break it though :/
Killua
He was there because Alluka and you wanted to go. He probably suggested it first when all of you were wondering what to do this week
Killua was trying out different foods too (similar to Gon) until you pointed out a dart board game. He's really good at them, so you asked if he wanted to give it a try
At first he wasn't interested but after Alluka pointed out a really cute plush at the stand Killua was like "No actually I want to do some darts"
Absolutely destroys the game. He was too good he ended up getting two prizes for you guys haha
Kurapika
I'm amazed you were able to drag him out of his miserable revenge path for some happiness once in his life 😭
He walked around with you, taking photos with you more than anything. However, you point out that there is a fair game you want to try with him, it's a shooting game
His aim is scary good too, like unrealistically good. It doesn't help that you guys are shooting spiders haha
Speaking of spiders, you two end up getting a nice plush but a few stands away some troupe members are playing games too, Don't let Kurapika know though!
Leorio
The two of you were done with exams from the university courses you guys were taking. Because of this, you two celebrated by going to a fair
You guys end up drinking more than anything, however Leorio wants to try the punching bag game with you so you guys try it out
It's more filled with you guys screaming at the bag for how it's not going up the 200 point threshold but then he uses nen and that's sort of the end of it haha
He gets you a really cool trinket, it's kind of like a beyblade
Illumi
It's a miracle you got him to do something fun with you with how busy his life is :/
He doesn't express that he's having fun there, pretty emotionless even on wild carnival rides. However, similar to Killua you guys decide to try a dart game
Illumi's wayy too good too. Honestly it's scary how accurate he is. Might show off a bit by doing some cool tricks too
Afterwards, he'll get you like the biggest plush because he saw you eyeing it earlier. You have to carry it back though, for assassin training or so haha

Hisoka, and Gon’s negative arc
It occurred to me, that while Gon’s obsession with strength in order to be worthy of his father’s attention started with Kite and the foxbear encounter, Hisoka certainly helped egg on Gon’s negative character arc. Gon idolizes Kite, he is, to Gon, the ideal Hunter. Someone who was strong enough to find Ging, and someone that his Father respects. Gon thinks he is following in Kite’s and his Father’s footsteps by walking this path, of getting as strong as possible, becoming so powerful nothing and no one can stop him from finding Ging. Remind you of anyone? It’s no coincidence, I think, that in the literal first arc of the story, Gon and the audience are introduced to Hisoka.  A character that completely embodies this flawed ideal. Someone who lusts for strength, for whom being the strongest thing alive is all that matters. Hisoka helps develop Gon down his negative spiral in every interaction they have. The first time is in that first arc, when Gon, in his own eyes at least, fails in successfully stealing Hisoka’s badge, with Hisoka then humiliating him by giving the badge back. This interaction served to water that seed of insecurity in Gon, and he thus completely diverts his quest from finding his dad to getting even with Hisoka. In his second appearance he confronts Gon and Killua on the 200th floor, directly egging him on and challenging him to get more powerful, so they can have their fight. It only then serves to firmly reinforce Gon’s belief in this ideal of strength then when he does in fact succeed in evening the score.  In greed island, we have a lot to look at. It’s in this arc I think Hisoka’s influence on Gon up to this point becomes truly obvious. Hisoka unnecessarily breaks his fingers to launch the ball back at Razor, and achieve a “flawless victory”, in a way very similar to how he got both his arms chopped off on purpose in his fight with Kastro, even though he totally didn’t have to. In a very similar way, Gon deviates from the sound plan formulated by Bisky to defeat the bomber, and win the game, in order to challenge himself. Just winning wasn’t enough, he needed to fight him one on one, and just like the fight between Hisoka and Kastro, (that Gon watched) he also sacrificed his limbs in an effort to mentally crush Genthru and gain the advantage. A total victory. And the most devious part? Hisoka was doing this all on purpose, mostly. It was his explicit goal from the moment he met Gon, to literally groom him into the perfect challenger. He enables all of Gon’s worst tendencies, and feeding his insecurity in order to drive him to become strong enough to pose him a threat. Thanks to anyone who read all that!  If you want a good read that goes in depth on Gon’s character and obsession with strength, (and why he is in fact not a monster like some people claim) I’d like to shout out EvansFreecss who made this great reddit post. (I think they may be coming to Tumblr to post it too at some point)       Gon Freecss is NOT a monster, he is MISUNDERSTOOD!!! by      u/EvansFreecss in      HunterXHunter

Hunter x Hunter + Pokemon, let's go!
Like I mentioned earlier, this is the brainchild of my friend, @doodle-storm, who has completed only the Hunter Exam and Zoldyck Family arcs but knows a lot about Pokemon, with me, who knows all of HxH but barely anything of Pokemon, giving occasional suggestions. Enjoy!
We decided to do three Pokemon for the main five and only one for each of the more minor characters. I'll break it up into parts. My friend's thoughts are in green, and mine in purple.
Gon:
Togepi - "Because he's a cute egg boy! And he's filled with joy and happiness and they share it with kind people." "Aww. The spikes look like his hair too!" "Oh yeah! Also they tend to start to act like their trainers, so I can see them kind of jumping into things together."
Ursaluna - I told her a bit about Kon, who was sadly not in the beginning as he was in the manga. "He's a foxbear." "Ooh. Well, there aren't any foxbears, but there are bears..." "Maybe one that looks intimidating? Just because that's funny, and also Kon wasn't supposed to be... befriendable." "Right. Then there's Ursaring, but there's also this one, which looks more intimidating."
Wooper - "I feel like he needs a water type, you know, because of his fishing pole?" She was debating on Wooper and a few others for a bit. "...it looks holdable." "...you're right, it does. Okay, that's cute."
Killua:
Absol - "He needs dark types, I think..." She catches me looking at Absol. "Oh, right, Absol's your favourite, isn't it?" "Yeah." "I think that works. Absol shows up when there's a disaster, but it's to warn people. It's kind of misunderstood."
Sneasel - It was Lucario for a time, but she switched it at the end. "It's got the claws... also it can ride on his skateboard with him."
Alolan Raichu - "It is very important that his pokemon be able to ride on his skateboard with him. ...or!!! It could surf right next to him!"
Kurapika:
Gallade - "Oh, that looks right." "Right? It even has the red eyes, and it's a fighting type."
Cubone - "Hey, wasn't there a pokemon that... lost its family or something?" "...Cubone???" "That's it." "...yeah it wears its mother's skull." "...sorry."
Corviknight - "It also has red eyes." "He seems like he'd have a bird too." "Yeah. Also, you could give the Phantom Troupe a Tinkaton." "..." "...they attack Corviknights with rocks and hammers." "...why?" "Just for fun, I think." "...you're kind of evil for this."
Leorio:
Audino - "There aren't that many medic pokemon and they're all kind of too adorable I think?" "Oh but that would be kind of funny if he hid it behind his back or something." "That's true!"
Gimmighoul - "He needs his money. It's a little ghost!" "...oh. That's kind of sad actually." "?" "He only started really wanting money after he couldn't save his friend so... having the money pokemon be a ghost type is kind of..." We both became sad.
Stoutland - "It warms up to people really quickly and is loyal. And it has a moustache to improve its social standing!" "Hey, Leorio's always wearing a suit probably for similar reasons." (Also I insisted after seeing it was called the Big-Hearted pokemon, though I couldn't elaborate on why to my friend.)
Hisoka:
Hypno - "It led a child into the woods. Canonically. A small child." "Ah." "Like there is no doubt that was a child." "...checks out."
Meowscarada - "I want to give him the evolved weed cat. Something about its smug face." "...'looks like this man's arms have turned into flower petals'..." "Also, since it's a grass type, it'd be strong against Gon's team." "You want our boy to be weak to Hisoka???" "Well, at first! Then it's more satisfying when he beats him!"
Gengar - "Look at that face. That grin." She said nothing more. It had already been decided.

AITA for punching a kid?
I (25? M) was visiting the childhood home of my mentor, when I came across a young boy (8 M) who had wandered into foxbear territory. He was distracted by the foxbear cub, and had already provoked the mother foxbear into scratching him on the shoulder. As foxbears are rather dangerous, I managed to slay the beast to prevent further harm.
I dislike killing animals, I think it’s wasteful and cruel. So I punched the kid, warning him not to go into the forest like that again because it’s very dangerous during the foxbear nesting season since the mother foxbears will do anything to protect their young.
The boy was shaken up at first, but then I realized he was my mentor’s son, of all people. I should have noticed it sooner, especially since he was doing something as stupid as looking at foxbears during nesting season. We had a nice conversation, and I told him all sorts of things about his dad which he was apparently unaware of. Could I have handled it better? Probably. But he likely didn't learn his lesson since the foxbear didn't maul him to death, so what's one punch as a warning?
Edit 1: Yes, I casually carry a katana on my person.
Edit 2: You would think a child who grew up in an area with frequent foxbear invasions would know what areas to avoid during nesting times. Apparently not.
Edit 3: No, Ging, I will not “punch him again”

G/t favorite/rec list from fanfiction.net part 4

When Andy tinkers with a mysterious new toy, it shrinks him down. Now Woody and the gang must decide how far to expose themselves while helping their human get back to normal.

Matters of medical necessities by Gixxer Pilot
An away mission brings a strange guest back to the Enterprise with ties to 21st Century Earth. McCoy wastes no time in picking the newest guest's brain...and getting on his nerves. Light crossover with 2009 Transformers, McCoy centric.
Lennox and the autobot by foxbear
When Lennox escapes his alien abductors he discovers an injured Cybertronian. The choice between compassion and revenge will have far reaching consequences. Slightly AU before the Mission City battle. Rated T for smoking and suggested violence. One shot
Déjà vu by Foxbear
While on an unexpected trip off planet, Jack and Raf put their survival skills to the test. Chapter 11 is the main reason for the T rating. There is viiolence, gore, and pain. I do not think it is gratuitous but read at your own risk.
A matter of size by KLmeri
Three instances showcasing why size matters to the Enterprise crew. Gen.
To serve and protect by andromedaAI
When Annabelle Lennox is kidnapped, the Lennox family is at a loss of what to do. The Autobots chased her kidnapper, but lost him. Barricade was on the kidnapper's tail the whole time, not knowing that the daughter of one of his enemies was the one who was being kidnapped. When he saves her, he can't find it within himself to kill her. What will happen to him if he doesn't?

I have a feeling that we get to see Gon/killugon reunion in chapter 396.
EDIT: actually, I got the chapter number wrong. I thought Togashi was sharing the beginning of ch396 and discussing the following four chapters when, in reality, he shared the beginning of ch397 and counted ch397 as one of the four chapters. However, this does not change the fact that ch397 will probably continue the PT flashback.
-Togashi came back with page 6 of chapter 396.

And it makes sense that after a long hiatus, he returns with a sketch of Gon/Killugon comeback chapter.
-This chapter includes trees and maybe a foxbear, so we are probably on whale island.

-As @buzzykrueger also said, in Gon x Killua PV:

Tbh, the moment I first saw the player's reflection, I immediately thought of Gon-san, y'know, when he looks more like a shadowy thing than a human. I don't think Gon would be a bird creature tho? I think he'd be something else, but I'm not sure what
HMM hmmm I've been thinking about this for a while now anon, at first I was thinking that oh, the narrator could be ging (it makes sense kinda? creation-wise), or that gon could be a foxbear (it's a nice callback to canon)
but now I'm thinking....maybe a deer? cause it sure is a nice representation of...a main creature of the forest. and it looks significantly different in its skull. it could be fascinating seeing this change in his reflection the more he rots through each new loop. AND the skull looks pretty fuckin neat! kinda...similar to the silhouette of the bird/crow creature :)

if i have some time someday, i will probably want to explore this more. but until then here's my ideas expressed into the tumblr ether, anyone else can explore this if they wanna try creating a slay the princess killugon AU!!

Gon hears Ging thanked Kite for smacking him around about the foxbears and gasps excited. He would have done well in Killua's family
