Hey everyone
So this is my first bit of writing on here
I know it's definitely not the best but I hope you all enjoy it. I felt we needed a bit more jeremy Allen white content on here you know :)
No warnings at all
Just setting a scene for hopefully a good story
Tumblr media
______________
Chapter 1 the beginning
"Okay, that’s great. And cut!" Charlotte yells at the crew
"Hey Andy, that was great?"
The actor breathed a sigh of relief as she jogged toward the iconic actor who had been struggling to get the scene and finally nailed it
Charlotte has been working as a director for years.
She started as a child in some local community theatre pieces and found out that she loved the camera just as much. As much as she had tried to be in front of it her insecurities got the best of her. And through that, she discovered the magical world behind the scenes.
“Thanks, char! Do you need anything else? I hope that take works I was feeling it and felt like I knew- “
“Andrew! That was amazing, perfect shot, perfect take. You were perfect!”
The amazing spider man actor smiled and slightly blushed at your compliments
“It’s a great film, bound to get you nominated with the academy-“
“Andy Andy Andy… let’s not stress me out just yet let’s just get the movie done”
As Andrew had opened his mouth to say something
She heard her name being called in the distance
Her assistant is taking a quick walk towards her while chatting away on a call
Charlotte excused herself from her cast and stepped aside with her long-term friend and new assistant Mia.
Mia rushed toward her slightly out of breath
“Char, I have your agent on the line who in turn has a casting agent from Variety on the line and they would like to book you for an exclusive next Friday”
“Oh my god yeah of course sure, I’ll check the schedules but we should be all set”
Mia nodded and rambled back into the phone line, she glanced up as Charlotte asked
“What interview is it?”
“Actors on Actors,” Mia said quickly
“But I’m not an act-“
Mia got distracted by another voice on the line and mouthed her a quick sorry
MEANWHILE IN NEW YORK
Everyone is cheering, champagne is flowing while laughs are being shared. They had wrapped season 2 of the bear and everyone was a mix of happy, sad, and relieved
It's funny how it may have been a fake kitchen but the tensions were still so real.
Jeremy was sitting in the embrace of his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach, laughing at some embarrassing set story when he glanced around at the set of the beef which they had called home for almost 3 years.
He was born and raised in New York but truly made a life in Los Angeles. When you spend 11 years on a project they become family. And He had created a family in many ways and no matter how much fun he had he can't help but feel a bit homesick
“Hey Jer, you doing okay?” ayo asked the blue-eyed boy who was staring into the distance
Jeremy shook his head lightly, getting the thoughts to lose, smiled at her, and said “Yeah I'm great, excited to finally get some damn sleep and order takeout for a while”
The cast laughed followed by Liza saying “oh hell yes I am not going near my stove for at least a month”
They all laughed at this, agreeing that even a microwave meal would be better than working on a stovetop for a while
Just then Jeremy's phone rang
He grabbed it hoping to see a familiar name on the screen, he sighed seeing his manager's name.
He excused himself and went to answer it
“Hey Mark what's up?”
He says leaning against the brick wall of the building, running a hand through his slightly greasy hair. He's not sure if it's hairspray, sweat, or just his hair at this point
“Jeremy! How's my guy doing? Congratulations on season 2. Listen. I have an offer for you. Nothing heavy just an interview for Variety”
“Um Mark that sounds great it’s just, I dunno man I have some things to sort out and “
“J, I know. Listen I don’t need a confirmation right now. Go home, lemme me know in like 2 days and I can book it. If not we grab the next one okay”
“Yeah okay”
After a bit of casual small talk, they say their goodbyes and hang up
Jeremy looks at his phone to see yet another news headliner, some cryptic messages, and a few check-ins. He rubbed his forehead wondering where everything had gone so wrong. How did he get here, something was missing. And it wasn’t the result of what had just happened. That would have been obvious
After he returned and enjoyed a few hours with his cast, he decided fuck it. Not much waiting for him back home. And messages Mark
Jeremy
: Hey bro, I’ll do the interview. When is it?
Mark
: are you sure man? It is next Friday with variety. It’s one of the actor on actors interviews
Jeremy
: Yeah that’s great
Can you find out who it’s gonna be with?
Mark
: I’ll work on it
Jeremy smiled at the reply and was content with this choice
Something about this decision just felt right

LOVE, VICTOR FINAL THOUGHTS:
the series as a whole is not bad, tho i really think they peaked in season one and kinda derailed from there. i do like that they took the realistic approach with it and showed the journey of the parents coming to terms with his sexuality and becoming actually supportive. also a big fan of the fact that they changed things up a bit and made the mom the one that has a harder time with it while the dad is quick to try and find a way to understand what victor is going through. big fan of whoever wrote that. on the other hand i feel like they kinda failed with the main couple like, first season i was on board, they were kinda cute but it just went downhill from there and by the last season i cared more about everyone else’s storyline, like literally every other couple was better than them. also their decision to make them end up together when they spent basically two seasons showing us how bad they are for each other was a little weird. personally i feel like it would have been better to make them not get back together or whatever that was and just recognize that they were each other’s first real love but that their relationship had ran it’s course. it would have been more than fine for victor to go on the ferris wheel alone and realize that he’s just a teenager and has his whole life ahead of him to find someone who he actually fits with.
but anyways, this is just a silly little show so it doesn’t really matter.
ok, now regarding other characters; i really liked felix and pilar’s relationship and i was so excited for them to be together but i do understand and think they were actually very smart in recognizing that their relationship wouldn’t have worked because felix needs a family more than he needs a girlfriend and them dating would put that in jeopardy. rahim is just my favorite right now because he is so fucking awesome like, last season i didn’t really care for him but oh my, when he is his own character and isn’t there to be a wrench between characters to create drama, he thrives bitch; i was supper invested in his arc this season and i actually really liked the whole homophobia storyline revolving him, i think it was a good move. andrew and mia are so cute but i think andrew is way more invested than her and like he would leave everything to make her happy, as he proved multiple times and she just isn’t that invested, she made an enormous decision without talking to him and also broke up with him at school?? weird choice. don’t get me wrong i like her but this relationship isn’t made to last like they made it out to be. ANYWAYS LAKE AND LUCY *chef’s kiss*, like literally best relationship to come out of this show, i will not shut up about them for a while. also i really loved lake’s queer arc. i think it was handled amazingly and i like how it wasn’t made into a huge deal in contrast with victor’s whole story
to conclude (this really feels like an essay btw whoops), the show is ok, it’s not groundbreaking but it’s nice enough, i would rewatch tbh and i don’t think it’s as bad representation as people make it out to be, but that might be just me. i would just skip season 2 cuz it’s not that good. it’s a decent enough show and i think that we deserve more queer feel good shows that are a little shit but watchable you know, idk if this makes any sense, i’m tired.
anyways, if you read all of this ily <33

So I saw someone else get an anon message that said: “I hate to admit this, but I really can't shake the feeling that Benji loves Victor more than Victor loves Benji at this point.” I wanted to respond as well, because I think this is something people are probably seeing a lot and I really want to explain how I’m looking at it (from personal experience and just from looking at and examining the characters).
CW/TW: Mental Health, suicidal ideation/action mention, Addiction, Emotional Trauma, sex mention, Predatory relationship mention, catholicism, homophobia, misunderstandings, lack of communication, spoilers for love victor seasons 1 & 2 [let me know if I missed anything please]
I want to be frank in saying that Benji is my favorite character and I project onto him a lot (along with seeing a lot of myself in him). I’m also white AF, so I’m sure some of you think that’s relevant, but I really don’t think it is in this particular case. I do also however identify with Victor in a number of ways and I am trying to see the characters both as complex individuals with deep personal histories. Both have suffered traumas and both are clearly dealing with a lot of their own shit on top of being sixteen/seventeen and dealing with junior year of high school and all the pressures and expectations that brings for everyone.
I think what people are interpreting at loving someone more/less is actually about prioritizing someone/a relationship more/less. In my mind, from what I see on screen and interpret, they both love each other beyond words. They are both very much in love with one another. It comes down to how they display that to each other and to the public as well as where on their list of priorities this relationship falls.
Let’s start with Victor, struggles and life:
He is dealing with internalized homophobia and associated thought-patterns stemming from his upbringing in the Catholic church as well from the vocalized homophobic remarks from his mother (toward himself and Benji as well as likely at other points in his life toward strangers), his father (stating that he hopes Adrian doesn’t turn out ‘like that’; the scene in S1 where they’re at the church in Texas and he calls the hairdresser ‘flojito’; etc.), and his grandparents (on his birthday and likely at other points in his life). As a result of this, Victor tried to make himself straight (or at least interested in a girl) by dating Mia because he did like her as a person and everyone was telling him that’s what he was supposed to do. He ended up hurting her and almost losing her friendship (temporarily, he did, but she does seem to have forgiven him now).
He is dealing with outside homophobia as well. That kid on the very first day he was Creekwood responding to Benji helping him up. Felix’s comment that same day of ‘you don’t want to give people the wrong idea.’ The basketball team/gym class guys roasting him about not hooking up with Mia on the ferris wheel. Felix saying he’d be crazy to not like Mia. Lake asking ‘are you gay or something’ when he brought Felix along to Mia’s house, etc., etc. Some of these things may seem innocent enough, but they weren’t. Not to Victor who was already struggling to accept even the possibility that he might be gay. Once he managed to come out to his parents, obviously his father got better fairly quickly, but Isabel continued to struggle for six months which put even more pressure on Victor to try to lead this double life. Once he came out at school, the whole fiasco with the basketball team also occurred and that was a lot for him, because Basketball as always his safe-space. It’s where he went to get away from all the other pressure. It was something he didn’t have to think about and now suddenly, he did. Those pressure are also affecting his ability to think about what he may want and it seems affecting his ability to think (at all sometimes) about how any of that is also affecting Benji. It’s affecting him so much that he’s basically blind to how it’s also affecting Benji to see him suffer. He doesn’t even consider that possibility until Felix brings up how hard it is for him the night Felix breaks up with Lake and Venji get caught having sex.
Victor also has struggles away from just his coming out and accepting himself journey. He has the struggles associated with his parents separation. Until fairly recently, Victor always thought his parents had a perfect relationship. He saw that as the ideal. Get together in High School, get married right away, stay together for ever, happily ever after. That’s what he was raised to expect. And now he’s seeing their relationship fall apart before his eyes. Hell, his devoutly Catholic mother had an affair, and he’s wondering if it’s really possible for your first love to be your only love especially after he and Benji start butting heads, so he’s already vulnerable to that viewpoint when Rahim brings up the possibility. He gets so lost in what’s happening to his parents and what Rahim is saying about it not usually working out that he forgets how in love he is and he sort of loses his will to fight for what he wants, because maybe it’s just doomed to fail anyway (until he sees Benji at the wedding and it sort of hits again - and then Felix’s speech thereafter, obviously). He kind of loses his way by getting caught up in the statistic improbability of your first love being the one and watching his parents’ marriage potentially fall apart and he wonders for a moment if it might be easier, if it might be better to just walk away and go toward Rahim who he seem to get along with and seems to understand the things Benji doesn’t about him, but what he fails to examine in that moment is that he’s only barely scratched the surface with Rahim and that Rahim doesn’t know him like Benji does and that every relationship has it’s ups and downs and what it always comes down to is how willing both parties are to work to make things right. How much you’re willing to step into the other person’s shoes and try to understand. In my opinion, even if he were to walk away from Benji and go to Rahim, that bubble of understanding isn’t going to last forever either. He’s failing to remember that when he got together with Benji (and for most of the summer it seems) that’s exactly what it was like and failing to remember that they have grown beyond that into a deep soul-altering love for one another that deserves his time, energy, and effort and NEEDS those things to keep it going.
Now let’s talk about Victor’s priorities in life:
Victor has always been close with his family, especially his mother. The strain on that relationship is very taxing on his mental well-being. He has a hard time ‘standing up to’ her or talking back to her, etc. because he loves her and he just wants their easy, close relationship back. He already overcame his own anger at her affair to get her back, but now she’s the one pulling away because of his sexuality and it’s hurting him because if he was able to forgive her for something that was actually wrong, why can’t she forgive him for something that he has no control over. So he loves his mother and his family and he hates disappointing them. He has spent most of his life fixing his family’s issues (as he explains to Simon in S1), but now he is the issue and he doesn’t know how to handle it. When in 2x1 he decides to just bring Benji over and try exposure therapy with his mom, it backfires in a big way. Even though they barely touch each other. Even though Benji just says the word boyfriend once, it’s too much for Isabel and Victor desperately wants to please. He desperately wants to not lose his mother (who has always been the person he is closest to), so that causes him to take a step back from going against her and the steps he still takes (telling her he wants her to call Benji his boyfriend not just his friend, the whole conversation outside the church, the conversation with Adrian, etc.) are things that Benji doesn’t get to see happening and it frustrated Victor that Benji won’t even listen to him when he tries to say that his mom is making progress at all, because she is so important to him and yet it seems like Benji just doesn’t even recognize or care about that. This leads him to say the thing he does at Brasstown before Benji runs out, because he assumes that it has to do with Benji being white and of course, that is part of it, but I think Victor in that moment is so overwhelmed by the rejection of his mother and now the refusal of his boyfriend to even try to understand that he snaps. He forgets all the struggles Benji has told him from his own past and he just lashes out which causes Benji to leave [more on Benji’s viewpoint of this whole thing later].
Victor also loves basketball. It’s true that in some case LGBTQIA+ individual participate in certain activities to make them seem more ‘normal’. Gay men participating in sports to seem more macho is a common one, so Benji thinking that’s why Victor plays basketball makes sense to an extend, but he never bothers to ask Victor about, only makes assumptions, and Victor feels like the fact that he actually likes sports makes him ‘not gay enough’ (see conversation with Andrew). What he’s forgetting entirely is his encounter with Bram and the gay basketball league in NYC from episode 1x8. There are many ways to be gay, and sports gays do exist and are perfectly valid. That’s not the type of gay Benji or his friends/bandmates are, but it is the type that Victor is and Benji failing to recognize that and failing to understand or even ask Victor about that drives one of many wrenches into their relationship. In episode 1x5 when Benji shows up to Victor’s first game back on the team and does the Go Grizzlies dance with the other basketball girlfriends, it definitely does a lot of help Victor realize this was just a miscommunication/misunderstanding rather than anything malicious. Basketball and his teammates continue to be a priority for him after this, but that seems to be something Benji is now capable of understanding.
Finally, Victor loves Benji. He wants to be with Benji; there is zero doubt about that. However, for Victor when he’s put on the spot (as in episode 2x8) and basically told he has to choose his mom (who has raised him and been his closest confidant and biggest supporter for his entire life) or his boyfriend (who he’s known for almost a year and been dating for six months and is helplessly in love with) it processes as an error message in his brain. He just wants everyone to get along. He’s not mad that Adrian knows that he’s gay (he’s wanted him to know for months), but he is upset that his mom is now even angrier. [see my section about Benji in this moment, for more about Isabel’s reactions as well] In his mind, telling Adrian could wait. In his mind, he was willing to go along with his mom’s requests for a while longer just to keep the peace so to speak. He didn’t want his whole life to fall apart and that’s what he thought was about to happen in that moment. That’s why he asked Benji to leave. He didn’t want to make his mom any angrier. Could he have chosen his words better? Yes. Could he have made Benji understand better? Yes. But he’s sixteen and his brain wasn’t functioning at full capacity because post-sex brain is definitely a thing and he was also looking at his mom who has already been horrible and barely able to look at him for six months, looking even angrier after he finally thought they’d made some progress after church the previous week.
So in conclusion, regarding Victor:
He loves his family (especially his mom). He loves Benji. He loves Basketball. Obviously, he’s not going to prioritize basketball over either of the human beings involved, but I think it’s important to at least note it’s importance in his life. As for Isabel vs. Benji. To Victor, these are the two most important people in his life. All he wants is to be able to love both of them and have both of them love him in return. When they are pit against each other, especially directly, it’s hard for him to make a choice. It’s hard for him to say ‘no’ to his mom and it’s hard for him to say ‘no’ to Benji, but in the moment (episode 2x8 specifically), he takes Isabel’s side, because he knows the ramifications of saying no to her and of making her even more angry that she already is are far worse than the ones for asking Benji to leave for the night. He failed to realize however, how close Benji already was to the edge and how upset he was going to be and how little he understood (or was willing to try to understand) about the situation. This is something he really needs to communicate with Benji (even though it’s not quite as important now that Isabel’s apparently come around). I think it’s important for Benji to understand that Victor values his relationship with his mother enough that it’s difficult for him to go against her without a lot of preparation and having a fully fledged reason, etc.
Now for Benji - Struggles and Life:
The obvious of course is that Benji is a sixteen/seventeen year old that’s barely a year sober and attending AA meetings regularly. Recovering from Alcoholism is difficult at any age let alone for a teenager. One of the most important factors in recovery is looking at the things that led you to drink in the first place. Looking at things that may be considered triggers and either learning to avoid those people/situations or learning healthy alternatives in those situations. I have multiple family members who are both actively drinking alcoholics as well as those in recovery. I also lost my best friend/ex-fiancé to alcoholism a few years ago, so to say I have some personal experience in this arena is putting it lightly. Benji admits to Victor in 1x7 that he used to drink a lot because he knew he was gay, but didn’t want to be. To me that whole story screamed, I’m an alcoholic and while a lot of others agreed with that opinion. I was not shocked that Victor didn’t understand that underlying truth. Those that don’t have intimate familiarity with alcoholism often do not recognize the signs (either as they happen when when they are not directly told). It is made clear in episodes 2x7 & 2x8 that Benji hates this part of himself, in fact he says as much to Victor when he arrives at his apartment late the night of his birthday. Benji has still not fully accepted that the alcoholic part of himself that attends AA meetings and drinks orange juice while his friends are drinking vodka is one and the same with the part of himself that loves Victor with all his heart. This is something I’d really like to see him reconcile and work on in season 3 and beyond. Understand that you can’t compartmentalize yourself. You are but one whole person and all facets of yourself are in fact part of the singular you. [Not accounting for those with dissociative identity disorder.] It’s not directly mentioned if he’s still struggling with urges to drink, but most if not all alcoholics do, especially when experiencing those aforementioned triggers. Seeing Benji meeting with his sponsor after the incident with Isabel/Victor is not shocking to me and if anything, that was the healthy and correct response on his part. The reason he was drinking in the first place was that he was gay and didn’t want to be (internalized and probably external homophobia) and he just experience some really intense homophobia at the hands of his boyfriend’s mom (and partially said boyfriend himself). Benji’s lack of understanding of where Isabel was coming from in episode 1x8 speaks volumes to just how traumatize Benji still is about his own experiences with homophobia. The only thing he can think about in that moment is that this woman hates me for being gay. She hates her son for being gay. Being gay isn’t okay, etc. What he doesn’t factor in is that Isabel is also devoutly Catholic. I honestly don’t think it’s the gay part of the sex that horrified her the most. The Catholic faith is also very clear on the practice of abstinence from sex (at all) prior to marriage. She would’ve responded the same way had she walked in on Victor having sex with a girl, in my opinion, but in the moment Benji’s own trauma is overriding his ability to understand that because all he can see is the homophobia. This is especially true after she calls him Victor’s friend rather than his boyfriend and that in my opinion, is why he snaps. Could he have phrased it better? Yes. Could he have said it without shouting? Yes. But he is a freshly seventeen-year-old whose brain is not functioning on all cylinders in that moment.
Sort of coupled with his alcoholism and recovery therefrom is the allusion his mother makes to ‘dark times’ following his accident. I do have suspicions that perhaps he was also struggling with mental illness, and likely continues to. Depression to the point of suicidal ideation or actions (possibly only in the form of drinking, but possibly in other forms as well). Anxiety is pretty obvious from his actions and reactions throughout the series as well. I also think he is dealing with some sort of trauma-based disorder stemming from the homophobia he experienced (especially the instance of his father taking him to strip-club). It may go as far as C-PTSD (which I myself am diagnosed with) or it maybe something less (or even more). I’m not in the habit of sticking mental health diagnoses of people (fictional or otherwise though). Dealing with these things on top of what in his eyes feels like rejection from not only Isabel, but in a way from Victor as well likely causes some very unpleasant thought patterns and the potential for thought spirals and the likely. I also see indications that he could suffer from co-dependency (whish I also have dealt with in the past), but I’m honestly not sure if that’s me projecting or if it’s actually there.
Then on top of all of that, his boyfriend who he loves more than anything in the world, tells his deepest darkest secret to someone he’s literally never met or spoken to and that said boyfriend has only known for maybe a week at best and thinks it’s no big deal. In that moment, I can 110% see why Benji requests to take a break and I feel that choice is 110% the right one to make. What is a relationship built on if not trust? Victor just destroyed most if not all of the trust Benji had in him. That doesn’t mean he stopped loving him, just that he doesn’t trust him. Love isn’t something you can turn off and on like a light switch especially not the kind these two share. I definitely think Victor has a lot of explaining to do and a lot of apologies to make. I do also think they both need to have a really long, really honest and open conversation. Benji needs to be willing to get a little vulnerable and explain why certain things are causing him so much distress, but he also needs to be willing to listen to Victor explain why he can’t simply go against his mother as Benji seems to think he should. They both really demonstrated a degree of selfishness this season along with an lack of communication and a lack of willingness to understand or even try to understand each other’s points of view and that is a recipe for disaster in any relationship.
There also exists the issue of Benji’s parents. His mother especially seems to overstep quite frequently and insert herself into his life where she was not invited or expected. I do wonder if this was always her personality or if this is something that started after Benji’s accident. I have a hunch it was likely the latter. I see indications that perhaps there was some neglect or just general indifference on his parents part as he was growing up. They clearly missed that he had started drinking heavily and that he stole his dad’s car that night. He was also evidently dating Derek for quite a while before the accident. (Derek is another section by himself though.) This not to mention the fact that his father took him to a strip club and paid for a lap dance when he was no more than sixteen if he was even that old, in an effort to turn him straight. Benji tells Victor in episode 1x7 that he and his dad used to be close and that they used to go to Dollywood on road trips and other such things, but that he’s been distant since he came out. We see from the scene where he walks in on Benji and Victor making out that he’s not vocally/outwardly homophobic, but I would not doubt that he still harbors some of those viewpoints in himself. It’s evident to me that Benji is not close to his parents (he may once have been, but at this point it’s pretty clear that he’s not anymore). Benji doesn’t have siblings to the best of our knowledge. It’s also mentioned that his nana (like a paternal grandmother) is deceased, so it’s really not clear how much contact he even has with his extended family or how much of one exists. For these reasons, in his mind, there is no circumstance where his family (especially not his parents) would take precedence of his own happiness or Victor’s. That is why it confuses/hurts/angers him that Victor doesn’t stand up to Isabel, because if the roles were reversed, he would have no problem at all telling his own mother (or father) off. He doesn’t seem to comprehend Victor’s need to keep his relationship with his mother intact. I’m very glad Isabel pointed out to him that Victor has stood up to her and risked their relationship for him, but the disconnect still lies in that Benji isn’t a fan of the fact that he didn't’ do that in his presence and that he didn’t do more.
Then there’s Derek. Derek is at least a sophomore in college in season 2 as he was clearly in college in season 1 as well. Meaning he is at least 19/20 when Benji is 16/17. They had been together for a year the previous spring (episode 1x6) which means they started dating when Benji was 15 and Derek was no younger than 18 (I think he is like at least a year older than the youngest possibility). Georgia’s age of consent is 16, and there are no ‘Romeo and Juliet’ laws in place in the state meaning it is categorically illegal for anyone 18 years of age or older to engage in sexual acts with anyone 15 years of age or younger unless they are legally wed, meaning until Benji’s 16th birthday, this relationship was illegal in general not to mention the predatory nature of someone in college dating a high school sophomore to begin with. They generally don’t prosecute if the people involved are within 4 years of each other though (which coincides with ‘Romeo and Juliet’ laws in other states) which they could’ve been within depending on Derek’s actual age and birthday. It doesn’t seem like charges were filed either way which is questionable on Benji’s parents part. Benji also tells Victor in 1x10 that Derek made him feel bad a lot of the time about the things he like and about being a romantic, we also see Derek crap all over Benji’s special anniversary date in 1x6. The toxicity of that relationship is sure to have left it’s mark on Benji and carried over into his new relationship with Victor. I also find it questionable that knowing that, Benji was shitting all over Victor’s love for basketball at one point (isn’t that exactly what he complained about Derek doing to him about his interests?), though as you see in my earlier comments, I do understand that perhaps Benji wasn't’ fully aware that Victor actually liked basketball and wasn’t just doing it to seem straight/make his dad happy/etc. I also think it’s quite confusing that Victor managed to come up with that date idea for Benji in 1x6 and then the best he could do for Benji’s birthday was champagne and sex? I’d be more than marginally hurt over that if I was Benji, to be completely fair. It is also worth it to note that Benji stayed with Derek for over a year despite all of their problems (which goes back to the possibility of co-dependency issues) and yet he was willing to break up with him just to chase after the possibility of Victor. They had already connected on so many levels even prior to that night that even the possibility of that relationship made Benji willing to leave someone he’d been with for more than a year (obviously Victor’s little speech in the hallway played a part in that).
Benji’s Priorities:
In Benji’s world, he has a few things that could be considered priorities.
Maintaining his sobriety is obviously one, but he keeps that separate from everything else. I don’t see it being held above or below anyone or anything. It’s just a completely separate thing to him (which again I feel he needs to reconcile). He was able to do that while also appeasing his friends and Victor (see episode 2x4 where he switches out his cups).
His music/band is obviously a priority, but again that’s something basic that everyone knows about and accepts. He doesn’t have choose between that and anything or anyone else that we’re shown.
Victor is his primary priority however. To him, that is the most important relationship/person in his life. He doesn’t know what he’d do without him. He says he loves that part of his life which I take to mean, he loves who he is when they’re together and not so much when they’re apart. To him, there is no question of who he would choose if there was a choice in front of him between Victor and literally anyone else (including his parents). That is why it confuses/hurts/angers him when the choice isn’t so simple for Victor when he actually has to make one between Benji and Isabel. Benji isn’t close with his parents and he doesn’t seem to understand what it is like for someone that is. Even if his parents didn’t come around right away. Even if they still may not be fully on board with everything, it didn't’ matter that much to him, because he could stand up to them because he didn’t care about destroying a relationship, because there already wasn’t much of one to begin with. This leads to him not understanding that Victor is seriously conflicted in the moments where he is made to choose between his boyfriend and his mother, because to Benji that choice is crystal clear. Again, they could really do with an honest conversation about this where Benji actually listens and tries to understand where Victor’s coming from, because right now, I think he just doesn’t quite get it. It’s clear that Isabel’s speech at Brasstown helped him to understand or at least start to, and obviously now that Isabel isn’t so much of an obstacle everything becomes a little easier, but it is still something that I really feel they need to discuss and understand about each other.
In conclusion:
Both of these boys need therapy (individual, family, and couples), and they would really benefit from a lot more open and honest communication where they both are able to speak honestly about their needs and desires as well as both being able to listen to and understand (or try to at least) one another.

TOP 10 TV SHOWS I WATCHED IN 2020
1. Dear White People
Tumblr media
This show goes on the top tier of my favorite shows ever. It’s been around since 2017 (after the eponymous movie of 2014) but only this year I finally got the chance to watch it. Truly one of the best written shows I’ve ever seen, with such compelling characters and story. While I love to watch series with hard hitting social topics, it’s usually very emotionally exhausting for me. However, DWP manages to balance the gravity of its plot with a bright outlook. Besides, I always love to see different characters’ perspectives so the format of DWP is extremely engaging.
2. Grand Army
Tumblr media
Grand Army is not your typical teen drama. It’s very raw and real. Five protagonists pull you into the story, and whether you hate them or love them, they don’t let you go. All characters feel like actual people you could know in real life. The show talks about racism, terrorism, sexual assault, white feminism, poverty, homophobia, bullying and more. I also love the way the show uses phones and social media, which you rarely get to see in teen shows. It doesn’t feel glossy or over dramatic. It does get graphic and dark, but it makes you care about the fate of its characters. Here, we also get to see five different perspectives. That and the rawness reminded me of SKAM, although GA is way less cheerful. It could also be compared to Euphoria with it’s portrayal of real issues, but I feel like GA hits the spot much better (and has more diversity).
Finding out that the creator is racist, upon finishing the binge, left me shocked and quite conflicted. I hope they will change the showrunner for season 2 (if it gets renewed).
3. The Great
Tumblr media
I’m not much of a period drama fan but this one’s no typical historical shows. It plays around historical figures, but you shouldn’t take that too seriously, just like the show itself. It’s a great (haha get it) fun to watch. The combination of comedy with the actual life or death peril creates a unique experience. Each episode the tables turn, you feel both, betrayed and enticed. Not to mention, Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult’s chemistry and performances are phenomenal. Overall, it feels like a strawberry blew up in your mouth (take it however you want).
4. Dickinson
Tumblr media
Dickinson is similar to The Great in a sense of historical accuracy. And I’m grateful for it, because seeing the 19th century nobility twerking at a party was something that brought me an immense amount of joy. Of course, you get to see Emily Dickinson’s poetic and original inner world, which is handled quite creatively.
5. The Queen’s Gambit
Tumblr media
This is just a very well written, portrayed and produced story. Even if you feel like it wouldn’t be your cup of tea (I mean a period piece about chess? Come on), chances are once you put the show, you won’t be able to stop. It’s a limited series with a star struck cast which pretty much reads like a prolonged film. It’s also pretty suitable to watch with your family, if usually you struggle to find a common interest.
6. Julie and the Phantoms
Tumblr media
This show certainly exceeded everyone’s expectations. It may seem like a typical kids show, but it’s smart, deep and entertaining. The music is incredible and it’s impossible not to fall in love with characters. Also, here’s the proof that your show doesn’t need to have graphic scenes and oversexualized underaged characters to be good.
7. Saved By the Bell: the reboot
Tumblr media
So I didn’t watch the original show, but the reboot caught my attention mostly because of Josie Totah, and because the vibe of the show just felt like something I would like. And I was absolutely right. Perhaps it’s not everyone’s cup of tea (and what is?) but to me it’s hilarious. A sort of heart-warming witty little show with gen z humor and interesting diverse characters. Definitely my new comfort show. And Lexi’s my queen.
8. Outer Banks
Tumblr media
Released during self-isolation it became a way for the viewers to live vicariously through the risky outdoor adventures. Perhaps, that’s why it’s such a hit and a bit overrated. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked (why do you think it’s on this list). It’s not an outstanding show, might be cheesy and raise some questions (like how can they all be teenagers looking like that?) but it’s entertaining and engaging, and sometimes that’s all you need.
9. I am not okay with this
Tumblr media
Let’s take a moment of silence for this amazing show being cancelled. Do you like Teotfw or Stranger Things, or better yet both? This show’s for you! It’s unique, dynamic, feels like you’re reading a comic book. Has a certain mystery to it and its own distinct voice. It also feels retro and nostalgic, even though it’s set in modern day.
10. Love, Victor [SPOILERS]
Tumblr media
There’s a lot of things I wish I could change about the show to make it better: For starters, more representation. I mean you’re making a show, not exclusively, but primarily for the lgbtq+ community and you only have two main gay characters? What’s that about? There are so many possibilities to make other characters not straight. E.g. Mia and Lake could be couple goals, Pilar being bi, Andrew – definite bi energy. Secondly, the cheating trope is so exhausting and overdone in gay storylines. It doesn’t add drama, it just makes the couple and the characters hard to root for. Also, making the love interest so obvious was so underwhelming after everything we went through in Love, Simon. I was kind of hoping for a surprise love interest until the end.
Regardless of all that, no matter how far from teenage reality this show is, it was cute. And even though I rooted for the secondary characters way more than the main one, I’m still excited to see what they come up with for S2.

Audio
Today is the 1 year AO3 anniversary of Slow Show by @mia-ugly. I am beyond grateful that this experience (and it is an experience) has existed in my life for a year and felt it needed commemorating. 🎂
I’m not a creator but I made this playlist for me, so I could take the fic with me, have it with my eyes closed, while driving -- you get it. Today seems like an appropriate day to share it.
It’s a. It’s a lot. Excessive you might even say. Tumblr will only give you the first 100 songs in this, so, Spotify will fulfill you (or overwhelm you). If you hit my username on the playlist, there are separate playlists for each chapter.
This is also on Apple Music, if that’s your jam, just hit me up and I’ll send you the link.
🎉 Happy Slow Show Day!! 🎉
13 pages of track-lists and excerpts below the cut. Godspeed! 💙

_
Heart Attack - Devarrow
-The sun is still rising when Avery gets out of the car, closes the door behind him. Though some of the roads have changed, his feet still know the way down to the docks of his youth. He was never a sailor, but the shoreline is familiar as a childhood sweetheart, as a long lost love.
_
Landslide - Robyn Sherwell

-And he knows. He knows.
_
--Chapter 11--
Salvation - The Strumbellas

_
Soldier - Fleurie
-And he’s still fucking here.
_
Easier – Mansionair
-Then he gets the fuck above ground and he calls Beez (oh great, they’re his emotional-support-asshole now. That’s healthy).

Deep End – Holly Humberstone
-“I brought you cheese,” Beez says, and Crowley starts crying.
_
Falling Short – Lapsley

_
Chariot (Stripped Version) - Gavin DeGraw
-Shit, this was a bad bad idea.
_
Quiet Light - The National
-There’s a text from Az later that night, and his name on Crowley’s phone makes him feel like jumping off a cliff.
_
All That We Had is Lost - Postiljonen
-He’s not allowed to be in love with that man anymore. Wasn’t ever, really.
_
Heal - Tom Odell
-It makes a rather hysterical laugh well out of his throat. Anthony fucking Crowley. You are still alive.
_
Let Me Go - HAIM
-Crowley tries to ignore the soft, injured expression on the other man’s face as he turns away.
_
A Beginning Song - The Decemberists
-“What’s more frightening than having a choice?”
_
The Spark - William Prince
-And he likes to think he would have just burned the world to ashes with the power of his love, would have said fuck everyone, I choose you – but who knows.
_
Sharp Scratch - The Slow Show
-So stupid, I know, and I’m - sorry, I still love you and I’m tryin’ to stop and I will I just - needed to tell you that. I’ll be fine. You’ll be fine. Just miss you.
_
Beautiful & Brutal – Plested
-Crowley moves without thinking. Falls like a stagelight, glass everywhere. He walks forward and is kissing Az before the door has even been pulled shut.

-“I wouldn’t survive it. That way it was. I wouldn’t.”
_
Stole the Show – Parson James
-But even on their distant shores, Crowley and Az don’t stop looking at each other. It feels like an ending. Maybe it is one. Not a happy ending, but not a bad one either.
_
Level Up - Vienna Teng
-excerpt from Anthony Crowley: Out of the shadows, under the spotlight
_

-“You can stay at my place. If you like.”
_
Falling in Love - Cigarettes After Sex
-“I love you. I’ve missed you, and I love you, and I want you -”
_
Stay - Cat Power
-He watches the slow flicker of awareness in Avery’s blue eyes. The curve of his mouth into a shade of smile that Crowley’s never seen before.
_
Freedom - George Michael
-“To the world.”
_
--Chapter 12--
Banks - NEEDTOBREATHE
-What he wasn’t used to was bringing someone else down with him, and jail would be a bloody blessing compared to seeing Az grey-faced and staring out windows, or that one time Crowley’s pretty sure the man was crying in the bathroom, trying to swallow down the sound so that Crowley didn’t notice (he clenches his hands into fists just thinking about it).
_
Black Mambo - Glass Animals
-“It’ll have to be.” Crowley drops to his knees. “There’s a lot of ground to cover.”
_
Florets - Grace VanderWaal
-Crowley can let his fingers curl against Az’s palm, can watch him open as a flame, not caring who notices.
_
Sight of the Sun - fun.
-That this longing won’t destroy him, and won’t destroy Az either. It’s not a shovel for burying Crowley alive - it’s a spade for planting things.
_
Pale Blue Eyes - The Velvet Underground
-Az drops his hand onto Crowley’s knee (“What is this song? I rather like it.”).
_
Only Everything (Acoustic) – Quinn Lewis
-“It’s nice to have someone make it for you, right? Sometimes,” Crowley says softly, too much love in his throat and in his hands. It’s hard to breathe around it, especially when Avery is looking at him.
_
The Book of Love - The Magnetic Fields
-“You bought a cottage for us.” Crowley is an animal being taught to speak through scraps of meat and electric shocks. “This cottage.”
_
Say You’ll Be Mine – Christopher Cross
-Avery: “But if you wanted -” Fuck, there are tears in Avery’s eyes. “If you want. I’d like to call you my husband. I’d like to say ‘let me ask my husband,’ or ‘I brought my husband with me’ or ‘my husband won a BAFTA’.”
_
Anthem - Leonard Cohen
-Their broken edges match. And somehow, the light still shines through.
_
Precious Love – James Morrison
-When the light catches them both, they shine. And so do you. So do we.
_
Good Man (acoustic) - Josh Ritter
_
_
If you made it this far...wow, hi hello. So, this is ours and my musical exposure is limited, if you’ve got a better song for an excerpt, feel free to shoot it over, more than happy for this to be a living changeable thing. 🤡

season 2 initial thoughts/speculation
Love, Victor will pick up at the start of Victor’s junior year at Creekwood High. Newly out of the closet, Victor will face fresh challenges like his family struggling with his revelation, a heartbroken Mia and the difficulties of being an openly gay star athlete, all while balancing the excitement of his new relationship with Benji.
note : my thoughts are based off very limited info (basically cast leaks and the paragraph above). and i’m very open to having my thoughts now be changed/proven wrong as we get closer to the series premiere and as i watch the series proper. anyway, i’ll begin now
i am upset that they’re still only having 10 episodes. one of the biggest problems i think season 1 had was how short the season was. it didn’t allow for more development of some of the elements they introduced. especially since this is very much an ensemble cast, 10 episodes is just not enough. had they had 12-15 episodes, i think some things could’ve been more fleshed out and better paced. circling back to season 2, we’re already getting 3 (possibly 4) new characters. with all the potential plots they have already (see the other post i made), i fear season 2 might have a similar issue to season 1 (pacing and development wise).
the time gap. really, i’m more curious to see how they incorporate this. at the latest, season 1 ends in the beginning of april. and since it says vic is starting his junior year, it’s at least a 4 month time skip. i think episode one will begin with a victor narration (similar to how he narrates his letters to simon). idk. i just hope they don’t make time inbetween feel rushed since it is a large period of time right after a major event.
it says his family struggling with his revelation. i think at least one of his parents will be unaccepting, but i also think they will all struggle with it in different ways. idk, my money is on the dad being unaccepting. since the parents are separating i can see vic moving in with his mom (if this is the case) and maybe pilar has to move in with their dad (or she chooses willingly bc of the conflict with her mom, who knows?). i think pilar might struggle with it continuing off where the series left off, she feels betrayed by victor and they’re storyline is trying to build trust again. as for the mom, i feel like she might be accepting, but also because this is new to her, she has these “mess up” moments where she doesn’t say the exact right thing, but you know she doesn’t mean harm (if that makes sense). yeah, this might be slightly inaccurate, i haven’t watched in a hot sec.
mia!!! i definetly know there will be tension between these two. i think it’s fair of mia to be mad at victor, however i do hope they don’t drag it on for too long. she is clearly hurt because to her, victor betrayed her. i hope they make up mid-way/ 2/3 of the way through the series and are friends by the end, but i wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t instant.
they’re bringing back basketball (yay). i do t really know what to say about this other than it was a plot in degrassi. i don’t say that to say it’s bad or unoriginal, just some trivia because i really have no thoughts on this as of now.
benji!!! yes!! victor and his relationship definetly needs to be the forefront of this season, and benji needs development. of course, much of the relationship will be from vics pov (it is love, victor after all) which will be interesting since this is his first relationship (with a guy no less) and in a way, he still has some “relationship firsts” that he and mia didn’t even do.
i’ll probably make another post for supporting character speculation and more vic spec. this post is long enough, but i’ll leave it with this :
internalized biphobia plot for andrew season 2 🥺👉👈

I just watched love, victor and absolutely LOVED it, so I decided to give some of my options on the characters.
Mia:
I enjoyed her character well enough and throughout the first few episodes I really thought I was going to love her, however that wasn't the case. I found her to be extremely boring and bland but mostly she was a character that I've already seen a thousand times before. I couldn't really connect with her because I knew her already, I had seen her already, she was like a thousand different characters. She the rich character who's father is always away and her mother left her, she feels like she always has to pretend is front of other people and can't be herself. She's smart tho, and funny and sweet, everybody loves her, and she has an interest in some type of art. Her dad is going to get married again and either the stepmum is going to be bitch and that's why she hates her or it's going to be a nice woman but she'll be mean towards anyways because of her abandonment issues. And oh no she's going to fall for the poor guy because he's different and somehow they just get eachother. Like, come on!! Tell one thing that is even slightly original about this character? The only difference this time is that Victor is gay. I really enjoyed her throughout the show but now the more I think about her the more I'm just meh and kind of annoyed.
Andrew:
Beat me up but I actually didn't care about him at all. He's again another pre-made character, he's the jock who's mean to everyone but actually, deep down, he's a good guy. Literally NOTHING interesting happened with him or to him. He felt just really flat in my opinion and did nothing for me.
Felix:
I'm actually EXTREMELY surprised by just how much I loved him. Because again, he could easily fall into the category of pre-made characters: the weird best friend who is there for comedic relief and who gets together with the hot girl. But somehow I still loved him, he was funny yes, but he was also a really good person and a great friend. I don't even know why I liked him that much but I did, he was so precious. But you know what, you don't always need a reason, sometimes you just like a character because you do, end of story.
Victor:
I love Victor so much, which is actually, again, really strange, because I don't usually end up loving the main character, the majority of times I either don't care too much about the MC or maybe I even straight up don't like them. But here I am, and I LOVE Victor. I think that the main reason is because I felt an extremely deep connection to him because of his family situation, for the role that he played in his family. I won't get into it but it's something that hit way too close to home. But other than that I genuinely love him. Yes he had flaws, yes had made big mistakes, but I love flowed characters, I love when it's shown that the character does make mistakes, but hopefully in season two we'll see him make amends and learn from them. He's only a 16 y/o, young and extremely confused with a shitty family life trying to find out who he is and trying to fit in at the new school, of course he's gonna mess up. My favourite character of the show.
Derek:
I personally can't agree with his idea that romance and anniversaries and cheesyness is something created by straight people and that queer people don't have to do that. Wether you want something romantic or not depends solely on the two people who are in a relationship, it had nothing to do with sex and sexuality and everything to do with what two people want out of a relationship, it's something that they should've talked about. In general he seems like a shitty boyfriend, if your boyfriend does something nice to you, something that it's obvious he spent time and effort on, you don't just brush him aside and leave cause you want to see a concert. You stay for the night and thank him and the day after you pull him aside and tell him how you feel about that so that you two can decide if you want the same thing out of that relationship.
Lake:
She can feel like a pre-made character too at times, however I still enjoyed her. I don't have any really strong feelings about her, but the feelings I do have are positive.
Benji:
I loved him too. He genuinely seems like a really nice, funny, sweet and romantic guy. I wish we'll get more of him in season 2 because for now we only know him really superficially, so I hope we can get to know more of him, both the good but especial the bad because as of now he's not really well rounded.
Pilar:
I enjoyed her too. She was too much on the teenage angst side for my tastes, that's why I didn't actually love her too much. Hopefully we'll see more of her in season two, hopefully in a setting outside her family, maybe getting more friends.
Isabel and Armando :
I'm sorry but I didn't really like her. Not as a character, I thought the character was great, but as a person. Yes, she had her moments, and yes, I liked her at times, but in general? No ma'am. She is the mother, she is the one who is supposed to make sure that everything runs smoothly, not Victor. He was going through so much and she didn't even notice. Even during his birthday, when he's just supposed to have fun with his friends and relax she still finds a way to make him take care of something. He's just a kid and he has all of this pressure on him, he has to pretend to be fine around his family as not to burden then anymore, he has to mediate between them and make sure that there is no more fighting. They are supposed to take care of him. For god sake he went to bloody new york and they didn't even notice!! I understand having your problems, but they've created such a shitty environment where coming home is actually cause of anxiety instead of comfort.

1/ it's strange to me that people don't totally get ippolita's purpose in the show and her interactions with lorenzo. the whole point of the "if there was a doorway to a different time" is to show that in a perfect world, lorenzo would have been able to choose his own wife who had more similar interests to him and not had one arranged for political gain. and him "turning her down" or whatever in terms of an affair is to show his growth that he knows he has other responsibilities and
2/ and can't always have every single thing he wishes he could. and i do enjoy clarice and lorenzo, their dynamic is interesting to me precisely because they are so different and not of one another's choosing and have to navigate that in their relationship and that's an intriguing to see play out. they obviously respect and grow to love one another, but it's not the same as being able to FALL in love with someone and marry them out of choice.
3/ ippolita is sort of that metaphor for all of that and i do wish we had gotten to see more of her character too, even outside of lorenzo
E X A C T L Y all of this is so well said!! you’ve hit the nail precisely on the head! this made me remember this post i made a while ago about the ippolita/lorenzo relationship as a foil to lorenzo/clarice in terms of the big renaissance-era religion vs. humanism debate (which we do see sprinkled throughout s3) and showing what could have been if lorenzo had married someone who was just like him, anyway it kinda goes hand-in-hand with what you’ve said here so i had to give it a little plug haha
and i agree about clarice and lorenzo, it’s an interesting dynamic for sure and i like watching its development over the course of the two seasons, it’s just that for me personally i’ve never really vibed with it as a Romance™ and have always appreciated it more as that kind of arranged marriage growing into companionship and partnership type of thing, but their relationship just doesn’t feel that /romantic/ to me in the traditional sense, which is why i’m always surprised to see so many people (and the show itself to some extent, mostly in s2) touting them as this super romantic relationship goals otp etc etc anyway tldr i personally feel that lorenzo has great romantic chemistry with lucrezia and ippolita whereas with clarice it’s kind of a different relationship. if i may reference the iconic film the princess diaries 2, clarice is the andrew to lorenzo’s mia and lucrezia/ippolita are nicholas

Have you ever witnessed a birth? Never have. I wasn’t present when my mom gave birth to my younger siblings and other than that there’s been no reason for me to be around for the birth of my other younger relatives.
What pattern does the closest tissue box have? I don’t have one in my room, but the one in our bathroom is brown. I think. I never actually checked even though I use it everyday lol.
Where did you lose your virginity, if you have? I truthfully didn’t really keep note of what counts as the first time because we had already been fooling around quite a bit. I’d guess either a hotel room or my room, or maybe hers. The one thing I can remember was that I was 18, so there’s that.
What color car(s) do your parents drive? We have two white cars and one teal. I still don’t know why my dad got a teal car when none of us in the family are into colored cars, but according to him getting the Vitara in white would’ve looked like an FX (a form of public transport here), so I’ve learned to make my peace with the teal car lol.
What are your views on getting rid of the penny? I can’t relate, because we don’t use pennies.
Which Asian country would you most like to visit? Aside from the ones I’ve already gone to, I’d love to take a trip to Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and India.
Have you ever had a nosebleed? Nope. I fear the day I get one; I’m scared of blood haha.
How far away do you live from your birthplace? Maybe around 30 minutes without any traffic. A realistic drive to Manila would take me anywhere between 1 to 1.5 hours.
Do you have bangs? Yep, and they’re starting to get pretty long as well so thanks for reminding me that I’ll have to trim them soon. I want to get rid of them already as I’ve had my fun with them, but NO ONE HAS SEEN ME WITH BANGS loooool so they are still staying.
Are you a good driver? I wanna say I’ve been better through the years? Hahaha the consensus is that I drive a little crazy, but my friends still always pick me to drive them whenever we go somewhere because everyone apparently still finds me the safest driver to ride with despite my temper on the road. Having a tiny car, being bullied by bigger pickup trucks and SUV through the years has helped toughen me up.
Have you ever kissed someone underneath the mistletoe? No. My ex and I always celebrated Christmas separately, with our own families, so we never got the chance to do this.
Do you watch the Olympics on the television? No. It’s not really something that interests me.
What was the scariest experience of your life? The time I nearly crashed into a car that I didn’t realize was stopped in the middle of the road while I was going 80 kph, and having like 3 seconds to hit the brakes.
Do you have a Tumblr account? I mean...
Are your nails painted right now? What color? Nope.
Have you ever played truth or dare? Several times, though I always pick truth because I’ve never had a problem saying it. I also hate picking dares because my friends would usually make us do dumb things, like dance, or worse, make out with someone in the circle.
How long is your driveway? Not very.
Are there any tv shows you keep up with religiously? Mmm it used to be The Crown, but I probably won’t be watching it for a while despite the new season because 1) I used to watch it when my past relationship had still been smooth-sailing, so watching it would just remind me of that; and 2) Gabie loves the shit out of Gillian Anderson and she was brought in for season 4 lol.
Right now my focus is on a new Korean drama called Start-Up, which is currently ongoing and is so fucking good. Nam Joo Hyuk is also there, so it’s a sweet bonus for me <3
What is your favorite iPhone app? I’m using YouTube the most these days, so it may as well be my favorite.
Where is your mother right now? She’s at work.
Do you know anybody named Carl? I don’t think so. The only person that came to mind is an uncle named Carlo who I haven’t seen in more than a decade. My dad’s college group used to be super tight-knit and I used to be friends with his friends’ kids, so it’s sad to see them kinda grow apart and notice the others be more reclusive over the years.
Are you more of a night owl or a morning person? Morning person. Ugh, work is changing me as a person haha.
What is your favorite song at the moment? Saw You In A Dream by The Japanese House has taken the top spot again. It’s just too goddamn good of a song.
Do you have a weak stomach? Very. I’m awful with car rides, bungee jumping, fair rides, you name it.
Have you ever been to a party where people were drinking underage? Hmm, yes. Kaira’s 18th birthday – it was held in May but most of the people at her party weren’t going to turn 18 until the end of the year, so it was a lot of 16 and 17 year olds drinking. I had just turned 18 then, so I allowed myself to take my first sip of a margarita.
How many stores are in the mall closest to you? Malls here are generally packed compared to what people may have in the US or other countries, so even though our local mall isn’t anything notable, it still holds 200+ stores.
Do you know anybody who has been diagnosed with cancer? Yes, but they’re all outside of family. My mom’s side is very weird about cancer and never share information about family members who may have it and only ever refer to it as ‘the c word,’ so I may have more relatives who have cancer than what is made known to us.
How far away is the closest McDonald’s to you? We have one literally right beside the main entrance of our village but because our house is at the very end of the village, what should be just a couple of steps away is instead a 10-minute drive for me.
Would you ever meet someone in person that you met online? Yeah I’ve done that with a few people in the wrestling circle. Jila I met unexpectedly while we were both in line for the WWE house show in Manila in 2016; Javi I met when I lent him my Chris Jericho memoir; and Rafie was the one who gave me a free ticket to said WWE show. Rafie’s a local celebrity now and he has such a huge following, so as weird as it is I’m also glad I have that little memory with him before he blew up.
What was the last film you watched? That Thing Called Tadhana, but I was unable to finish it. I’m into TV shows these days and I’ve been all over Start-Up.
Does it snow where you live? Never has.
Have you ever been to an art gallery? Of course, I’m a sucker for those. I always go to one whenever I can; there are a lot of malls here that’ll randomly have pop-up art exhibits, so art galleries here actually aren’t limited to just museums.
What are your neighbours like? A lot of them have kids, that much I know because a lot of them play outside in the afternoon and make some noise. We all keep to each other, though, so I don’t know any more about them; the only time we get together is when the neighborhood organizes its own Christmas party for the community.
Do you visit your town’s library often? I would if we have one, but public libraries are not a thing here. If you needed to go to a library to find a book, you would have to go to a university.
Have you ever had to take care of an intoxicated person? This just gave me college flashbacks haha. Of course I have, and the most notable people for me are JM, Andrew, and Angela.
What flavor was the last ice cream you ate? It’s a red bean ice cream sandwich that also has a bit of vanilla ice cream in it.
Can you do a cartwheel? No but I definitely tried a thousand times as a kid.
Who is the last person you spoke to on the phone? Can I do video calls instead? I haven’t done phone calls in a while. The last people I was on a call with were Ysa and Bea.
^ What did you talk about? Secret work stuff.
Which website do you spend the most time on? YouTube, Tumblr, Reddit, Twitter.
Have you ever kissed someone of a different race? I haven’t.
What can you smell right now? My coffee chocolate chip cookie.
Do you read fanfiction? If so, what fandoms? I haven’t checked on my favorite authors since college, mostly because they went MIA at some point and moved on to different fandoms as well. But when I did, I mostly read ones for AJ/Punk and HHH/Steph.
What accent is your favorite? Man this question is asked a lot...
How did/will you celebrate your birthday this year? Gab gave me a cute digital present, I think I may have spent the whole day playing the Switch, and Hans and Angela sent over a box of sushi for me.
Are you more introverted or extroverted? I’m both depending on the people I’m with. If I’m with a crowd I don’t know all that much, I turn my volume down.
Do you tend to repeat yourself all the time? Yeah. I got it from my mom, who unconsciously repeats stories all the time.
How was the last chicken you ate cooked? Fried.
Is there anybody you always find yourself thinking about? Yes, but it has gotten easier to manage/ignore altogether these days.
What was your last argument about? Haven’t argued with anyone in a hot minute. It was probably my mom as always, but I no longer remember what it could have been about.
Are/were you part of any extracurricular activities in school? I had clubs in high school since it was mandatory. In college, I was in yearbook and a journalism org.
Do you want to get married someday? I don’t know about that anymore.
What colors are on your country’s national flag? Blue, red, yellow, and white.
Would you go back to your ex if he/she asked you? I’m pretty stupid when it comes to this, so yes.

Summer Film Preview: 27 of the Most Anticipated Movies of the Season!
Among ET's 90 top picks for summer are our 27 most anticipated films of the season.
Every summer, there is no shortage of new films to blow audiences away at theaters -- and blow away records at the box office. This summer, things are looking especially massive. Blockbuster season kicks off in a huge way with the highly anticipated back-to-back releases of Deadpool 2and Solo: A Star Wars Story, ushering in an onslaught of franchise films with new installments of Jurassic World, Marvel's Ant-Man, Mission: Impossible and The Purge.
Not everything is a sequel, though. Of the originals is the eagerly awaited adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, marking the first time a major studio has produced an all-Asian-led film since The Joy Luck Club; Spike Lee's latest, BlacKkKlansman; and -- because it wouldn't be summer without one -- a shark attack flick, The Meg, starring Jason Statham.
But no matter what you’re looking forward to, there's plenty to choose from among these 27 sure-to-be hit films.
Deadpool 2 (Out Now)
The Deadpool sequel is bigger, louder and packed with more violence and superpeople, dick jokes and fourth wall-breaking meta-ness than the original X-Men-adjacent movie. And while that all sounds like a recipe for a bloated case of sequelitis, Ryan Reynolds and co. not only pull it off, but top the first.
Directed by: David Leitch | Written by: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Ryan Reynolds Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
Forget everything you think you know about the legendary smuggler and prepare for the unexpected. That's the best advice we can give you about Star Wars' latest anthology installment, which, sure, features the Kessel Run and Han Solo and Chewbacca's origin story, then blasts off for so much more.
Directed by: Ron Howard | Written by: Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke
American Animals (June 1)
Tumblr media
The Orchard / MoviePass Ventures
According to the minds behind American Animals, while most movies are based on a true story, this one is a true story, about four college students who plan "one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history." It also marks the first appearance on this list by the true star of the summer movie season: Ann Dowd.
Directed by: Bart Layton | Written by: Bart Layton Starring: Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson, Ann Dowd
Hereditary (June 8)
Tumblr media
A24
Following its screening at Sundance earlier this year, Hereditary was hailed as the scariest horror movie in years -- if not of all time. As for what actually transpires in the film, well, that is best left vague. Brace yourself for hypnotically unnerving tongue pops and flashbacks to Toni Collette's iconic turn in The Sixth Sense.
Directed by: Ari Aster | Written by: Ari Aster Starring: Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd
Ocean's 8 (June 8)
This year's Met Gala might as well have been early promo for Ocean's 8, which centers on another heist-happy Ocean, Debbie, who assembles a team of women to help rob a fictional Met Gala. (If you do some simple math, it seems Anne Hathaway's mark is one of the eight, too.) Unfortunately, Rihanna will likely not be dressed as a sexy pope.
Directed by: Gary Ross | Written by: Gary Ross and Olivia Milch Starring: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna
Won't You Be My Neighbor? (June 8)
Tumblr media
Focus Features
If you were a child in the '60s -- or '70s, '80s, '90s, the aughts, really, if you were a child ever -- then Won't You Be My Neighbor? will be a nostalgic return to your younger years, a look at the long-running and formative TV series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the man behind it, the late Fred Rogers.
Directed by: Morgan Neville
Hearts Beat Loud (June 8)
Tumblr media
Gunpowder & Sky
This gem of an indie is for anyone who has ever wished Nick Offerman could be your best friend, your dad or both: Kiersey Clemons plays Offerman's daughter and reluctant bandmate as they navigate fame and family in Hearts Beat Louder. Sprinkle in a queer romance and an earworm-y soundtrack, and what more could you ask for?
Directed by: Brett Haley | Written by: Brett Haley and Marc Basch Starring: Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Toni Collette, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner
Hotel Artemis (June 8)
Tumblr media
Global Road Entertainment
Read this logline: "Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Hotel Artemis is a high-octane action-thriller starring Jodie Foster as The Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only hospital for criminals." Now re-read that sentence over and over and over until you go insane and this becomes your most anticipated movie of the year.
Directed by: Drew Pearce | Written by: Drew Pearce Starring: Jodie Foster, Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Zachary Quinto, Sterling K. Brown, Jeff Goldblum
Incredibles 2 (June 15)
Tumblr media
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
It has been well over a decade since the original Incredibles arrived in theaters and, even now, under the looming threat of superhero saturation, that first film remains one of the best superhero movies period. Finally, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack are back, with Frozone and, of course, Edna.
Directed by: Brad Bird | Written by: Brad Bird Starring: Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine Keener, Sophia Bush
Tag (June 15)
Tumblr media
Warner Bros. Pictures
This is a movie about tag -- as in, the game in which you tag someone and they are then "it." Specifically, Tag is about a group of childhood buddies who have been playing tag one month out of the year, every year, for 30 years. If you are wondering, Where do they come up with this?!, it was a Wall Street Journal article.
Directed by: Jeff Tomsic | Written by: Rob McKittrick and Mark Steilen Starring: Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, Isla Fisher, Leslie Bibb
Damsel (June 22)
Tumblr media
Magnolia Pictures
If you hear that Robert Pattinson is starring in a Western, you probably have a notion of what that film is. Damsel is not the movie you're imagining, guaranteed -- unless, of course, you pictured a screwball comedy about a pioneer who voyages west with a drunkard and a miniature horse named Butterscotch.
Directed by: David Zellner and Nathan Zellner | Written by: David Zellner and Nathan Zellner Starring: Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, David Zellner
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
In the colossally successful Jurassic World, the dinosaurs destroyed the park, as dinosaurs are wont to do, and now Isla Nublar is threatening to destroy the dinosaurs. Thus, Claire and Owen are enlisted to help save the dinosaurs from a second extinction -- and that's only the beginning of this adventure.
Directed by: J.A. Bayona | Written by: Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, James Cromwell, Justice Smith
Under the Silver Lake (June 22)
Tumblr media
A24
Something about those hot summer nights must make us itch for a mystery, because this is yet another noir-y flick arriving in cineplexes, albeit a very modern take on the genre. Andrew Garfield plays a stoner Angelino who begins sleuthing when his dream girl disappears in the middle of the night without a trace.
Directed by: David Robert Mitchell | Written by: David Robert Mitchell Starring: Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, Topher Grace, Jimmi Simpson
The First Purge (July 4)
Tumblr media
Universal Pictures
There's something almost comforting about knowing that every (sometimes every other) Independence Day brings a new installment in the ongoing Purge franchise. Who knew a nutty little murder flick could have so much steam? This one goes back to the beginning and the invention of a government-sponsored killing spree.
Directed by: Gerard McMurray | Written by: James DeMonaco Starring: Lex Scott Davis, Y'lan Noel, Luna Lauren Velez, Joivan Wade, Marisa Tomei
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6)
Consider the Ant-Man sequel a respite for those still reeling over the ending of Infinity War, a plucky comedic romp about heroes who shrink, supersize and now fly, too, which probably won't leave you frantically wiping away tears as the theater lights come on. Also, Michelle Pfeiffer plays a superhero!
Directed by: Peyton Reed | Written by: Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari and Paul Rudd Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Michael Peña
Sorry to Bother You (July 6)
Tumblr media
Annapurna Pictures
There is original, and then there is Sorry to Bother You. If a stranger, more out-there film has ever been made, I haven't seen it. I've never seen anything like this, a satiric tale about a telemarketer who uses his "white voice" to get ahead that feels at once painstakingly plotted and completely free-associated.
Directed by: Boots Riley | Written by: Boots Riley Starring: Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Steven Yeun, Armie Hammer
Whitney (July 6)
Whitney is not the first documentary to turn the lens on Whitney Houston in the years since her 2012 death, but it is the first to be endorsed by her estate, featuring interviews with loved ones of Houston who had never spoken publicly before and bombshell revelations that made news ahead of Whitney's official release.
Directed by: Kevin Macdonald
Eighth Grade (July 13)
Tumblr media
A24
You know how adults always say, "I'm so happy I didn't grow up when there was social media." Watch this Sundance drama, comedian Bo Burnham's directorial debut, and feel that tenfold, alternately a cringey and heartwarming look at what it means to be coming into your own -- yes, with YouTube and Twitter.
Directed by: Bo Burnham | Written by: Bo Burnham Starring: Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)
Is Meryl Streep's character still alive for the Mamma Mia! sequel? Supposedly. We do know that we will see a younger version of Donna (played by Lily James) as the ABBA singalong jumps back in time to show the Dynamos' origin story, while in the present, Donna's daughter is pregnant with a baby of her own.
Directed by: Ol Parker | Written by: Ol Parker Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Lily James, Colin Firth, Cher
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)
Tumblr media
Paramount Pictures
After successfully completing five other supposedly impossible missions, whatever Ethan Hunt is tasked with in Fallout should be considered mission: pretty difficult but manageable. Still, Tom Cruise continues to up the ante in insane and preposterous ways, like jumping out of a plane at 25,000 feet, for one.
Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie | Written by: Christopher McQuarrie Starring: Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett
Christopher Robin (Aug. 3)
If you enjoyed last year's period drama Goodbye Christopher Robin, about the real boy who inspired the creation of Winnie the Pooh, then you are sure to enjoy this, too, Disney's less historical, more fantastical tale about grown-up Christopher Robin and how Pooh and the rest of the Hundred Acre Wood gang help him rediscover his imagination.
Directed by: Marc Forster | Written by: Alex Ross Perry Starring: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Jim Cummings, Chris O'Dowd, Brad Garrett, Toby Jones
The Spy Who Dumped Me (Aug. 3)
I would pay money to watch Kate McKinnon read the phone book. Thankfully, she gets much more to do in this action-comedy, in which Mila Kunis plays the unwitting woman dumped by a spy. McKinnon plays her bestie, and the two quickly find themselves in over their heads trying to stop a terrorist group and save the world.
Directed by: Susanna Fogel | Written by: David Iserson and Susanna Fogel Starring: Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Sam Heughan, Gillian Anderson, Justin Theroux
BlacKkKlansman (Aug. 10)
Tumblr media
Focus Features
Spike Lee is back with his latest joint, the so-crazy-it-must-be-true saga of Ron Stallworth, the first black police officer in Colorado Springs, and his undercover operation to infiltrate a local Ku Klux Klan chapter, which was so successful that he eventually became its head.
Directed by: Spike Lee | Written by: Spike Lee, David Rabinowitz, Charlie Wachtel, Kevin Willmott Starring: John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier
The Meg (Aug. 10)
Tumblr media
Warner Bros. Pictures
No summer is complete without a silly shark attack movie, and for the summer of 2018, The Meg fits that bill and then some. First of all, the shark in question is a megalodon, which basically just means a REALLY BIG F**KING SHARK, and hopefully Jason Statham will punch it at some point, right?
Directed by: Jon Turteltaub | Written by: Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber Starring: Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Bingbing Li, Cliff Curtis, Masi Oka
Crazy Rich Asians (Aug. 17)
Based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians is about a Chinese American professor who travels to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family and discovers they are -- you guessed it -- crazy rich! Hijinks ensue. This is also the first Hollywood movie with a majority Asian cast in 25 years, i.e., crazy overdue.
Directed by: Jon M. Chu | Written by: Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim Starring: Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong
To All the Boys I've Loved Before (Aug. 17)
Tumblr media
Netflix
Here's one YA fans have been waiting for. Based on the bestselling novel by Jenny Han, the title refers to letters our heroine, Lara Jean Covey, writes to her past crushes, love letters they are never meant to see -- but do, after they're accidentally mailed out. You don't need to head to the cinema to swoon over this one; it's streaming on Netflix.
Directed by: Susan Johnson | Written by: Sofia Alvarez Starring: Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Emilija Baranac, Israel Broussard, John Corbett
The Happytime Murders (Aug. 17)
Nothing says summertime like puppets snorting ecstasy and soliciting sex. The Happytime Murders -- no lie, from the same director as The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island -- is about police partners, one felt and one Melissa McCarthy, investigating who is shooting the stuffing out of puppets.
Directed by: Brian Henson | Written by: Todd Berger Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale

The Ultimate Musical Theatre Questionnaire
This is not originally mine, the link is below. I just filled in my answers.
Ultimate Musical Theatre Questionnaire
Some of these will include a Top 5-10…
1. What is your “go-to song” when you’re feeling sad?
It really depends on what “sad” means that day. If I need a boost of confidence “Watch What Happens (Reprise)” or “Once and for All” usually does it. If I need to get out some anger “I’m Done” from Rocky is a fun one to sing. Comforting songs are good too, like “A Little Fall of Rain”.
Honestly, playing a cast album like Newsies or Cinderella really lifts my spirits.
 2. What Broadway song do you relate to?
SO MANY!
Watch What Happens ~ Newsies
Santa Fe ~ “
If I Loved You ~ Carousel
Before the Parade Passes By ~ Hello, Dolly!
 3. Favorite female voice? Favorite male voice?
This one is so hard. Obviously this isn’t a complete list but this is what comes to mind at the moment.
Female:
Barbara Streisand
Laura Osnes
Laura Benanti
Sierra Boggess
Megan Hilty
Kelli O’Hara
Lea Salonga
Phillipa Soo
 Male:
Jeremy Jordan
Alfie Boe
Ramin Karimloo
Santino Fontana
Aaron Tveit
Christian Borle
Lin-Manuel Miranda
Hugh Jackman
4. What is your favorite show based off the music?
Bonnie and Clyde
Death Takes A Holiday
Meet John Doe
The Secret Garden
Chaplin
Literally anything Rodgers and Hammerstein. Even if I don’t care for the show, I usually love the music. I love the wit behind the lyrics.
 5. An overrated song.
Seasons of Love ~ Rent (I love to hate this one. It’s catchy and fun to sing… SOMETIMES…)
All I Ask of You ~ The Phantom of the Opera (I read the book, I’ve seen the movie, the live tour, and the 25th anniversary, but I just don’t like Raoul...)
I’m Not Afraid ~ Songs for a New World
Sixteen Going on Seventeen ~ The Sound of Music (there are other really great songs in this show!)
Tomorrow ~ Annie
I Feel Pretty ~ West Side Story (I mean, really, this is one of the defining songs of this amazing show? America, Maria, and Tonight are so much better in my opinion).
Green Finch and Linnet Bird ~ Sweeney Todd
 6. An underrated song.
Without You ~ My Fair Lady (everyone always does “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” but I don’t think those two songs are the best in the whole show).
How Can Love Survive ~ The Sound of Music (this one wasn’t in the movie but it is an amazing song. It’s so witty and the tune is beautiful. Actually I did this one as a solo for a cabaret show).
Raise A Little Hell ~ Bonnie and Clyde (This one gives me chills every time)
 7. An overrated musical
Avenue Q ~ I am so tired of hearing about this one, and I don’t like the concept or the music.
Book of Mormon ~ I know there are a few good songs but as a Mormon and as a decent human being I find it offensive… Jk about the decent human being thing, but still, I don’t like this one…
Rent ~ I do appreciate that it’s based off of La Boheme, and that it’s a very revolutionary piece, but I’m tired of hearing about it.
Cats ~ why?
Chicago
Little Women ~ Everyone has Sutton Foster Fever and they need to stop. She’s a great actress, but there are other actresses out there and these songs are played too much.
Into the Woods
Songs for a New World ~ BIG TIME. It really bothers me that the songs I like from this show are less popular than the ones everyone raves about.
You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown ~ Any of the Charlie Brown musicals… I don’t really have a connection and I don’t think the music is particularly clever…
Seussical ~ I’ve been in one full production of this and I also played the Cat in the Hat in a dance recital (that one was actually fun), but I LOATHE this show. It’s very childish, and I get that that’s the point, but it’s really childish. It’s on a similar plane to Charlie Brown in my eyes.
Grease ~ Seriously, the story to this one is terrible. Yeah, go ahead and change yourself for your crush because he’s not man enough to tell his friends and society that your social status shouldn’t matter when you’re in love… Also some of the music gets on my nerves, and I don’t really like the movie either.
A Chorus Line
The King and I ~ Personally not my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein show. There are some good songs but I like some of their other shows far more.
How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying ~ Ugh…
Cabaret ~ Another really poignant show but no one really focuses much on the story, they just like the suggestive and scandalous songs.
Pippin
Annie
Oliver
Sweeney Todd
Falsettos ~ Now I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this one but I still had to say it. It is a really great show and I don’t hate it. It’s just there was so much hype before the Tony’s and so much hate directly after.  I just don’t like how negatively people acted when it didn’t win Best Revival. (I thought that Miss Saigon was going to win but whatever). I just really dislike the hate that goes along with not liking this show. I don’t think the writers would have appreciated that, and I don’t really think the actors would either.
I’m adding an extra category because there are some shows that are overrated but I still like them a lot...
The Lion King ~ -ish… I still like the show, but everyone raves about it when there are some other really great shows out there.
Hamilton ~ Again, I like the show, but everyone is obsessed…
Dear Evan Hansen ~ I don’t know whether it really deserved to win best musical… But then again the lyrics and staging were really on point.
In The Heights ~ There is so much good about this show but I do think it’s a bit overrated...
 8. An underrated musical
Rocky (I think the music is adorable, but then again I’m a South Jersey girl so Rocky holds a special place in my heart)
Love Never Dies ~ Lots of people hate this but I really like it. This is definitely one that you need to actually see to appreciate it. I really like the character development, if you can get past all of the weird Coney Island stuff. Plus, you know I hate Raoul.
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Dracula
Show Boat ~ This one is a classic but still, it doesn’t get nearly enough attention.
Death Takes A Holiday
Bonnie and Clyde
Meet John Doe
Chaplin ~ I will never get over how CRIMINALLY underrated this one is.
The Woman in White ~ Why doesn’t anyone talk about this?!
 9. How many cast recording albums do you own?
Technically… I own Newsies, Cinderella, and the celebrity version of Finding Neverland...
Of course thanks to the library I was able to download quite a bit to my computer so…
Wicked
Beauty and the Beast
The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary
Bombshell ~ Smash, I count this one.
Mary Poppins
South Pacific
I also have various songs from some different shows.
 10. Do you buy the whole cast recording, even if there are songs you are not fond of?
Depends. I don’t really have that many. If there’s only a few songs I like I’ll just buy the songs separately, but if I like the majority of the album I would definitely buy the whole thing.
 11. What was the first cast recording you owned?
Newsies, but I think I had some songs here and there before that.
 12. How many playlists do you have on your mp3 or iPod? If just one playlist, how many songs?
I’ve got at least 5 different Spotify playlists. Usually I listen to songs on Pandora so I can get some new suggestions.
 13. Song that reminds you of someone else?
Beauty and the Beast ~ Technically the movie version but… This was going to be my parents’ wedding song.
The entire album for Show Boat
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again ~ The Phantom of the Opera
The Love I Meant To Say ~ Smash. Also not really from a show but this one touches my heart so much.
 14. Stephen Sondheim or Andrew Lloyd Webber?
This is a really tough one. I think ALW’s music is a bit more accessible to me and he has many great shows (and some really overrated ones). Stephen Sondheim is also extraordinary, but I like his more melodic songs which can be few and far between. Sondheim is challenging to sing and understand sometimes.
 15. Favorite choreographed number?
King of New York ~ Newsies
I’m sure there are others but I can’t think of any right now.
 16. What do you think of shows based around the music of other artists? (i.e. American Idiot, Mamma Mia)
I like Mamma Mia, and I’ve heard that All Shook Up is really good. If the storyline is as compelling as the music, then I’ll love it.
17. Favorite song cut from a show?
The Truth about the Moon ~ Newsies (I want sheet music so bad!)
One Man ~ Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
 18. Most powerful (vocally) song
Female:
Once Upon A Time ~ Brooklyn
When It All Falls Down ~ Chaplin
 Male:
Who Am I ~ Les Miserables
Raise a Little Hell ~ Bonnie and Clyde
Music of the Night ~ The Phantom of the Opera
 19. Favorite song from your least favorite show.
I’ll just name one, “Stars and the Moon” from Songs for a New World
 20. No-Dry-Eye Broadway song.
 I cry in almost everything…
Letter from the Refuge ~ Newsies
Santa Fe (prologue) ~ Newsies
Santa Fe ~ Newsies
The entire score to Les Mis
I’ll Be Here ~ Ordinary Days (listen to it and you will bawl your eyes out if you have a soul)
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again ~ The Phantom of the Opera
When the Phantom sings a reprise of “All I Ask of You” during “Past the Point of No Return”. Also his reprise of “Masquerade” at the end and when he sings, “Christine, I love you…”
Dyin’ Ain’t So Bad ~ Bonnie and Clyde
Hold On ~ The Secret Garden
You Don’t Know This Man ~ Parade
 21. Your favorite Broadway duet
Love Songs
If I Loved You ~ Carousel
Something to Believe In ~ Newsies
 Non-Love Songs
A Little Fall of Rain ~ Les Mis
How Can Love Survive ~ The Sound of Music
Chip on My Shoulder ~ Legally Blonde (can’t actually remember if this is a duet or not…)
 22. Do you reenact/sing in front of the mirror/pretend you’re the character when you’re singing along to a song?
All the time.
 23. Top five Broadway songs.
 Nope, can’t do it.
 24. A broadway song that makes you cringe. (i.e. least favorite)
I’m Not Afraid of Anything ~ Songs for a New World
Seasons of Love ~ Rent
 25. What shows have you seen?
On Broadway:
Newsies (Once with Jeremy Jordan and once with Corey Cott)
Cinderella
Wicked (With Aaron Tveit when I was 13 and didn’t even know who he was…)
 On Tour/Professional:
Mary Poppins
The Phantom of the Opera
Emma The Musical (I don’t think this one has been on broadway but Colin Patrick Hanlon and Annelise Van Der Pol were in it)
Peter and the Starcatcher
 26. If you could play any role on Broadway, what would it be?
Katherine Plumber
  27. Name some stars you’ve met at the stage door.
Jeremy Jordan, Corey Cott (I chased him down the street before the show…), Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Annelise Van Der Pol, Carpathia Jenkins, Andy Richardson, pretty much the entire OBC from Newsies.
 EXCEPT FOR TOMMY BRACCO...
 28. If you could go up to New York and see any and every Broadway show you want to, what would you go see?
There are so many shows… Right now maybe Dear Evan Hansen or The Great Comet (if it’s still running…)
 29. Which Broadway star do you want to see live more than anyone else?
Laura Osnes, Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Laura Benanti, Christian Borle, Andy Mientus, Santino Fontana.
 30. Favorite Tony Awards host?
Neil Patrick Harris
 31. Least Favorite Musical
Any of the overrated ones, but for the sake of time Cats.
32. What is your go-to shower song?
A crazy patter song like “Watch What Happens” (Newsies)
Also “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair” from South Pacific. My grandmother used to sing this song to me when she gave me baths when I was a toddler and young child.
 33. What does Broadway mean to you?
It’s my life. I love Broadway and everything about it, and one day I will be performing there.
And I’m too tired to write anymore...

If you remember my first travel post (Bienvenido a Cuba!), I shared my promise to myself to visit at least one new country each year. And being the birthday diva I am, what better way to kick off twenty-nine twenty-fine than with a girls trip to somewhere new. And thus,
#DESTINATIONTWENTYFINE
was born.
Tumblr media
Upon my return from Havana last July, I instinctively started searching for my next vacation spot, and was drawn to the beautiful beaches, exciting adventures and delicious food DR had to offer. I therefore had no doubt that #DESTINATIONTWENTYFINE would be in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
I know what you’re thinking – what is this chick’s obsession with Spanish-speaking countries? Honestly, I’m not sure either 😂 (aside from my love of Hispanic food), but keep in mind that my birthday is in the dead of winter, so travel options are limited due to the weather.
Tumblr media
Being the lunatic that I am, by the end of July I had presented my closest girlfriends with a full on PDF document that had everythangggggg (I do my homework, okay!). I had decided on travel dates, given airline options from each person’s point of origin, accommodation options, a full on itinerary and a budget for the entire trip.
However, similar to my Cuba planning, I found limited information online. Even harder, was finding out anything beyond the confinements of all-inclusive resorts. Perhaps it’s because I’m from a popular tourist destination (so I know how it goes), but the thought of staying in a hotel and ONLY experiencing what they present to you at the resort does not excite me. I want to explore the cuisine that hasn’t been watered down to satisfy the palates of tourists; I want to interact with locals and explore beyond the resort walls. And while Punta Cana is known for being a resort town, I knew there was more to be seen than the hotel disco and food buffet.
Within three months, three girlfriends and I had booked flights (catch flights, not feelings okurrrrr), secured a beautiful bungalow via Airbnb and committed to a fully packed birthday getaway to D.R.!
Tumblr media
We spent 6 days exploring Punta Cana, eating way too much rice, consuming wayyy too much alcohol and collecting memories to last a lifetime.
Of course I couldn’t limit you guys to just glam shots on Instagram! So, here are all my tips for planning a vacation to Punta Cana.
My follow-up post will have more on where to go, what to eat, what I wore (you know I love a slaycation) and things to do. I hope these posts will answer all your questions!
About Dominican Republic
Tumblr media
The Dominican Republic is a part of the second biggest Caribbean island, Hispaniola, which it shares with Haiti. From a tourist’s perspective, the island would seem to be simply beaches and palm trees; however, they also have mountains, deserts and a rich history.
The official language of DR is Spanish, and while some might assume based on the popularity that Punta Cana is the capital of DR, it is actually Santo Domingo.
Their currency is the Dominican Peso, however, USD, CAD, Euros and GBP are accepted in most places in Punta Cana.
Punta Cana
Tumblr media
Punta Cana is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean and therefore has tons of resorts and villa options. It encompasses Cap Cana, Macao, Bavaro, El Cortecito, Cabeza de Toro, Uvero Alto and Arena Gorda. From the picturesque beaches to the epic nightlife, Punta Cana has become a prime vacation spot if you’re looking for a luxury vacation, some kind of turn up or just want to slay relax on the beach all day – and of course learn a little about the country’s culture!
Tumblr media
The beaches and surrounding area reminded me of Jamaica’s north coast – beautiful white sand, lush grass, palm and coconut trees, and warm locals willing to accommodate you despite the language barrier.
What you should know before traveling to Punta Cana
Tumblr media
While US passport holders do not need a visa to enter DR, there are visa restrictions for some countries. Jamaicans can enter DR without any visa requirements, however, if you are travelling through the US, you will of course need a US visa. Multiple blog posts had warned of a $10 visitor fee that must be paid before going through immigration, however, we were not required to pay any additional fees. Perhaps that fee is now outdated or included in the ticket fee, but no cash payment was required at the airport from any of us – and we traveled from different locations on different airlines.
Arrange your transportation beforehand: whether you plan to rent a car or need a driver to take you to your accommodation, make these plans before you travel to avoid unnecessary airport stress and get the best prices possible.
About 90% of the resorts are all-inclusive: if you want that resort life and prefer to pre-pay for accommodation, food, alcohol and entertainment, one of these resorts may be your best bet.
Most places in Punta Cana accept USD, Euros, GBP and CAD, so there’s no reason to change your money to pesos. Major credit cards were accepted most places, however, I recommend you bring cash (mostly small bills) for some excursions, tips, and other small purchases.
You can book a lot your excursions in advance online, so you don’t have to worry about them getting sold out. We tried to book as much as we could beforehand in order to efficiently plan our itinerary.
The weather app isn’t always right. The day before we traveled, I was getting a bit nervous because all I saw were rain clouds and possible thunder storms on the Weather App. However, since this is a tropical place, occasional rain clouds appear for short periods. It drizzled maybe twice during our stay and none of our plans were affected by these rain drops.
As a mostly Catholic country, nudity is illegal! So save your topless tanning for elsewhere. If you really want to avoid tan lines, spend some extra dinero on a room with a private pool.
SIM cards with unlimited data for a week are available for $10 USD through Claro, so save on roaming charges and just purchase one at BlueMall (literally less than 10 minutes from the airport) to stay in the loop. Most public places also have Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to instagram all your amazing pictures in real-time.
What to pack…
Tumblr media
As previously stated in my Cuba post, I am not a light packer – I embrace the slaycation lifestyle completely and commit to the slayage – which you cannot do from simply a carry-on. I simply must check a bag when I travel! I’ll try to stick to the basics because  I will have a follow-up post on how to pack for a slaycation, so stay tuned!
Passport. Duh, for any international flight this is necessary – but it always has to top the packing list. I can’t imagine driving all the way to the airport only to realise I left my passport on the bed.
Money. Get your coins ready – and whatever cards you’ll be carrying.
Bags. 1 carry-on, 1 checked bag, a backpack/tote, appropriate bags for outfits.
Toiletries. I’m a naturalista, so of course I have to pack shampoo, conditioner, styling products and a spray bottle. But, you’ll also need toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth wash, first aid kit, any necessary medication, deodorant, sunblock, tanning oil, lotion, tampons/pads, makeup, razor, bug spray and makeup. The good thing about this destination is that Supermercado Nacional in Punta Cana has most things you could possibly want: from Advil to Andrews to Herbal Essences. So if you forget any toiletries there’s no need to fret – you can get most of your necessities at the supermarket.
Electronics. Cell phone, iPad/tablet, camera, portable charger, charger cables for all devices, earphones, blue tooth speaker. I opted to leave my laptop at home to resist any temptation to work while on vacation.
Clothing. Underwear (my standard is 2/day plus extras), shorts, cool clothing (it is a tropical destination), swimsuits, a sweater/jacket, sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, heels/dress shoes, “fancy” clothes, sleep clothes and a hat. Once again, Punta Cana is a modernized island so if you need anything, you can probably pick it up at a mall. BlueMall has a huge Zara, Nike, Aldo, Levi’s, Under Armour, just to name a few. So if you forget anything or want to change an outfit, you can always go shopping 💁🏾.
Tumblr media
Travel
Tumblr media
We booked our tickets online through our preferred airlines. I use an app called Hopper where you can put in your destination and dates to see flight price predictions on various airlines. You can also watch the flight to know when the right time to book is in order to get the most affordable ticket. If you prefer to stay at an all-inclusive resort, you can find flight + hotel options on aa.com, Expedia, Travelocity, etc.
Traveling from Kingston, Jamaica, Justine-Renee and I booked on American Airlines (my preferred airline). The flight was from KIN (Norman Manley International Airport) to MIA (Miami International Airport), then to PUJ (Punta Cana International Airport). The flight from MIA to PUJ was about 2 hours and the entire travel time was about 7 hours. We left Kingston at 7:49 AM and landed in Punta Cana at 3:15 (DR is 1 hour ahead). The cost for my ticket was $715 USD, which is kinda pricey considering I booked it from October, but I digress…
Please note that the flight prices were probably higher than usual since it is a tropical destination and February is right in the middle of peak season.
My friend Tamara traveled on Jet Blue for less, but her travel time was longer as it went from KIN to FLL to SJU (Puerto Rico) to PUJ. Her return flight, however, only had a layover in FLL.
Christine traveled from North Carolina on Southwest Airlines; her travel time was a bit longer than ours and went from RDU to ATL to PUJ. Her return flight stopped at FLL instead of ATL.
Estimate the ticket price to be anywhere between $500 to $800 depending on your city of origin and when you book the ticket.
Accommodation
Tumblr media
As previously stated, I wasn’t too keen on the idea of staying at an all-inclusive resort, plus based on the size of my group, it was more economical to stay at a villa/bungalow. However, there are a wide range of resorts to choose from, especially in Bávaro.
Cap Cana, which is less than 20 minutes from the airport, is a gated resort area containing luxury condos, resorts, beaches and entertainment options.
Tumblr media
We rented a villa that was absolutely amazing! It was safe (you need a pass to get through the Cap Cana entrance and to enter Green Village where we stayed), spacious, beautifully decorated, and just perfect for our girls’ trip. It had an outdoor shower and bath tub, and our own private pool and barbecue patio with an expansive backyard (not to mention a beautiful view!). We were also close to the shopping mall, supermarket, restaurants and Scape Park so the location was perfect. Our host, Carlos, was very welcoming and checked on us often; he gave us wonderful recommendations for activities, beaches and restaurants, and replied quickly if we had any questions.
Tumblr media
For 5 nights, our villa was about $1400 USD total, which wasn’t too bad when split 4 ways.
Check out our home in paradise (thank you Carlos) here:

How to get around
One thing that had us anxious when planning this vacation was transportation. While Punta Cana does have public transportation (taxis) and tour buses, we felt it would be easier on our schedule (and pockets) to rent a car. I can honestly say we found the least helpful information as it related to car rental.
First of all, you must know this: the people of Punta Cana drive like taxi men in Montego Bay, so if you can handle that, you can handle Punta Cana. As for people used to “safer” driving conditions, I can understand your reservation – you may want to stick to taxis or private tour operators. I’m pretty sure we only passed two stoplights around downtown Punta Cana; otherwise, it was just a bunch of roundabouts (they really love roundabouts) and wildness a bit of a free-for-all.
I highly recommend you reserve your car prior to your arrival. We reserved our Alamo rental a week before (no deposit required) through Expedia. While I did pay for the collision insurance through Expedia ($11/day that you pay upfront), I think you can pass on that. The insurance company offers a good insurance package and we opted to get all the recommended insurance since we were driving in unfamiliar territory.
Originally, in trying to keep within the budget, I had reserved a midsize sedan. However, we reached an agreement that the four of us AND our luggage would not be comfortable in a Tiida (A TIIDAAAA!?!) so we decided to upgrade to an SUV upon arrival. Fortunately, they were out of the immediate upgrade option, and for the same price as a Suzuki Vitara, we were able to rent a full-size SUV. For 6 days and the full insurance package, we paid $418 with no hidden fees or surprises. The only request was that we  bring the car back with a full tank of gas.
Tumblr media
The full tank the car came with was sufficient for 6 days of driving all over the place! We didn’t have to get gas until we filled it right before the return time. The cost to fill the tank was about $75USD.
One thing to note is that in order to rent a car, the person renting must have a valid driver’s license and credit card with the same name. You don’t pay for the car when you first rent it: instead, the company will put a hold on the credit card for $500USD and upon return of the car (provided no damages or accidents), they will subtract the cost of the rental from the $500 hold and return the balance to your credit card. This was a relief for us as we were under the impression that they would be charging the rental fee AND putting the hold for $500 all at once.
Overall the rental experience was hassle-free with no hidden charges, and driving in Punta Cana wasn’t a bad experience. Plus, whether you are roaming or purchase a SIM card, you can use WAZE or Google Maps to get around easily.
  The cost
Tumblr media
It’s safe to say that Punta Cana is a pricey vacation spot. I mean let’s face it: it is an area developed for tourism. However, plane ticket and accommodation aside, it wasn’t too bad on the pocket. Grocery shopping is so affordable, we were actually in shock! During our first supermarket run, we bought food items, more alcohol, toiletries, and just so much stuff for the four of us, and somehow the bill was only $120!!! If you live in Jamaica, you can understand how cheap that is for a full cart of things for four people.
There are many affordable options for dining out. Depending on your budget, you can spend anywhere between $10-60 on a meal (sometimes including cocktails). Just do your research beforehand and explore your dining options. We were also happy to have a place to cook in so we could budget our meals efficiently.
I had initially placed our total budget (airfare, accommodation, car rental, food, excursions, “braffing”) at $1700-$2000 USD per person. And while we did upgrade the car rental, we stayed within that budget range.
  My tips + thoughts
Tumblr media
Get a Spanish dictionary app. Know the basics! I’m not going to lie, I felt like I experienced more of a language barrier in DR than I did in Cuba. Some do know English, but we did experience several service persons who did not speak a lick of English. Just because it’s a tourist destination, do not expect everyone to know Enlglish!!! You are in a Spanish-speaking country!!!!
Purchase the SIM card. I don’t care how much of a shella you are, once your phone is unlocked, purchase the $10 SIM card from Claro. $10 is so affordable and it’s unlimited data for a week. Like… where [else] dey do dat at????
Buy your alcohol in Duty Free when you land. If you plan on getting lit like we did, get your alcohol (especially champagne, Hennessy, tequila) in the duty-free store because it’s so much cheaper! They had some great deals (like 2 bottles of Moet for $120USD) and they had these delicious fruit-infused spirits. You can sample them literally as you step out of immigration. We bought the Papaya-infused Tequila and the Mango-infused Rum. The only downside is we did have to mix some Appleton in the cocktails because those spirits are only 20% alcohol and in Jamaica we’re used to 40% Appleton and 63% White Rum so you know how that goes…. 😁.

Drink bottled water. While the water is relatively clean, depending on where you’re from, you can still get traveler’s diarrhoea or some kind of stomach reaction. I prefer to keep it safe – especially after getting sick in Cuba 🤦🏾‍♀️.
Do not wait until the last-minute to buy souvenirs! We waited until the morning we were leaving and headed to Bavaro to find some souvenir shops. A lot of those places don’t open until midday, so we couldn’t wait and ended up with the limited (and overpriced – $9 for a shot glass 😒) airport finds. Try to actually visit some local stores outside of the airport.
Be open to new experiences – especially food! While you will find American chains such as Wendy’s and Pizza Hut, do not travel to a new country to only eat French fries and pizza! Try some local cuisine – explore the food options!
While it is disappointing, there is a chance you could experience some racism or prejudice while in DR. I don’t want to bash the entire island for 2 instances we experienced, but I do think it is 2 too many. However, if you’re familiar with how some Dominicans think about black people and people of Hispanic descent who don’t speak Spanish, you’ll understand why we weren’t exactly surprised; we were more taken aback that this could happen in a tourist area like Punta Cana, when so many tourists from all over the world come to visit year-round. Anyway, please don’t let those two incidents discourage from seeing all that Punta Cana has to offer. We had a wonderful time otherwise and were met with warmth and hospitality from the other locals.
Tips for planning a group trip
Tumblr media
Plan your trip at least six months in advance. This gives people enough time to bail on plans to commit to everything.
Be cautious of who you invite on a group trip: personalities clash and nothing is worse than spending a ton of money to go see a new country only for a spoil-sport to rain on everyone’s parade. Take into consideration personality traits and rooming arrangements (don’t invite a neat freak and a messy Betty and have them room together – that’s an argument waiting to happen).
Tumblr media
Plan your budget from the jump and set a reasonable timeline for that budget. A good thing to do is to mark up all costs, so there’s some wiggle room in case things come up or prices go up (or if you live in Jamaica, you can work with the fluctuation of the dollar). It’s better to come back with some extra funds than to have an insufficient amount while overseas.
Pay for things as you go along to avoid having to fork out a lump sum. Since the budget for this trip was kinda steep, I made sure we paid for things over the six month period, so that by the time the trip came around, any money spent would be on going out and other trip expenses. We started by paying for the Airbnb from September (you can pay 50% upfront and the balance 2 weeks before your trip), booked the flights in October, shopped for outfits between November and December, paid for excursions in January and by the end of January we paid the balance on the villa. By the middle of February our only costs were things paid for in DR. This was so much easier than forking out $2000USD one time! After all, my friends and I don’t have sugar daddies are not big ballers (YET!).
Try to make an itinerary beforehand: this way, you can have an idea of what each day will be like (what will the wake up call be? will the lunch spot be close to the activity we’ll do in the morning?), and you can efficiently plan your outfit options based on what you’ll be doing. I’m a foodie, so I also like to check restaurant reviews and menus before I go so I don’t waste money on bad tasting food. Not to mention, this will help you stay within your budget so you don’t end up going to restaurants with four dollar signs and have no money left in the budget for activities. But keep your options open: certain places may not pan out, so it’s important to have back-ups. I’ll be sharing my psychopathic  PDF with you guys at the end of this post.

Chapter Two
A/N: This is only chapter two, so we’re still getting into it, but I would appreciate any feedback as the story is still new and I’m still getting the feel of it.
Harry squinted out over the polo field, frowning. It was only the third match of the season, but already the grounds were packed. Polo was becoming a more and more popular sport – or maybe it was just because he and William would be playing – but the numbers of spectators each week were growing.
“You see Kate?” William asked from behind Harry. “She said she was going to find a good spot to sit with the kids, so that they could see me.”
“I can’t see her,” Harry said, dropping the tent flap and moving back into the changing rooms, pulling his t-shirt over his head. “Hey, feel free to let her get into your head, you know? Feel free to distract yourself and fall off your horse.” He was grinning.
William smirked too. “At least then you’ll be in with a chance of winning, huh?”
One of Harry’s team, a guy called Albert, barked a laugh from across the room. “You mean, at least then you’ll have an excuse for losing.”
“Other than just being shit,” Harry’s other teammate, Nathan, quipped. All the guys chuckled, changing into their polo kit. William’s last team member entered the tent just as Harry was buttoning up his white trousers.
“Sorry I’m late,” John said breathlessly, already unbuttoning his shirt. “James was being a pain, he wouldn’t get dressed.”
William laughed. “Kids, eh?”
“More like my wife not being able to control them,” John answered, laughing too. “Honestly. And then Lily didn’t want to put sun cream on even though it’s like the Mediterranean out there.”
“It really is a lovely day,” Nathan agreed, but John’s words had a different effect on Harry. John’s kids were here, at polo? Outside in the sun? With Ellie? Ellie was here?!
Half of Harry wanted to dance with joy, the other wanted to curse and leave immediately. He’d tried to avoid thinking about her for most of the four days since they’d met, and he’d just managed to start succeeding in it. And now, seeing her again, he was sure it would send him back to how he’d been on Tuesday night.
“So two of your team will be distracted by missus in the crowd,” Albert said, smirking. “Interesting, looks like this should be a walk in the park, eh, H?”
Harry looked up, realizing he had no idea what Albert had just said. He nodded. “Yeah,” he said blankly, trying to cover it up. “Yeah, definitely.”
“Alright boys,” Andrew, the polo manager, said, coming into the tent. “You all ready to saddle up? The game should be starting in five minutes.”
“Let’s go,” William said, leading the guys out the back to the stables. Harry followed, the familiar thrill of anticipation of playing polo rushing through him.
*** “You’re Ellie, right?”
Ellie looked up from where she was sat on the grass at the sound of a familiar, eloquent voice. The Duchess of Cambridge was stood there, adorable princess Charlotte sat on her hip.
“Yes,” Ellie said, jumping to her feet and holding out a hand.
“I’m Kate, William’s wife,” Kate said, smiling. “William said that you would be here today, and I hear that our husbands are pretty good friends.”
“They are indeed,’ Ellie said, laughing lightly. “Nice to meet you.”
“You too. Can I sit?”
“Of course.” Ellie returned her backside to the hard ground as the Duchess copied her, sitting Charlotte on her lap and looking out over the field. “Is your son not here?”
“Oh, he is,” Kate said. “He’s over there with William’s cousin Zara. He loves playing with their daughter Mia. William said that you and John have kids?”
‘Yes, James and Lily,” Ellie said, gesturing to the playpark on the corner of the grounds, where two little blond children could be seen running around. “They’re four.”
“Aw, they’re adorable,” Kate said. “Oh, here we go.”
Ellie looked ahead to see the eight horses trotting out onto the field, their riders looking strong and powerful atop them. Ellie spotted John – she couldn’t miss that arrogant smirk – and she saw William too. They were wearing matching shirts, and then she let her eyes wonder over to the other team, adorned with green. One of them looked particularly good on top of his horse, his strong arms clenching and unclenching as he pulled his ride into place on the pitch. Ellie found herself watching him, number 2, as the game began.
“I find polo so soothing to watch,” Kate said. “Do you ride?”
“I used to, not since I’ve had the twins,” Ellie said. “I never played polo though.”
“No, me neither,” Kate said. “Actually, I’m allergic to horses.”
“Oh my goodness, no way!” Ellie said, laughing. “You married into the wrong family.”
“Tell me about it, William and Harry have been playing polo all their lives, I swear.”
Ellie’s mind flickered back to her conversation with Harry, and her stomach clenched at the thought. She hadn’t let it on, but his charming smile and dancing blue eyes had made her insides warm. She glanced out at the pitch, wondering if he was playing today. She couldn’t remember if he had said he was. “Oh yes, I met Harry at Ascot, he was telling me that he plays polo.”
“Yeah, he’s playing today, I think,” Kate said, examining the players. “Yeah, that’s him. On the green team.”
Ellie’s breath caught, almost as if she knew what was coming. “What number?”
“Er, 2,” Kate said. “Harry’s exciting to watch, he always takes risks. I’ve seen him get thrown off his horse a few times.”
Ellie managed a laugh, her gaze still fixed on number 2, except now she had a name and face to go with that body – and it wasn’t helping.
“Mummy!” called a high little voice, and Ellie looked round to welcome Lily into her arms. Lily clambered onto her for a cuddle, nuzzling her face into her mother’s chest. “James pushed me off the swings.”
“Did he?” Ellie asked with mock outrage, then looked round to see her son approaching too. “James, were you being mean to Lily?”
“No, her time was up!” James said.
“Wasn’t!” Lily sniffled.
“Was, I was counting!”
“You can’t count!” Lily argued.
“Can!”
“Can’t!”
“Okay, okay,” Ellie said tiredly. “Don’t argue. See, now that girl has finished on the other swing why don’t you both go and play on them?”
The twins ran off, all previous discontentment forgotten.
“God, I don’t know how you cope with twins,” Kate mused. “I only survived because one of them was too young to argue with the other.”
Ellie laughed lightly. “They’re okay, they’re usually very good, but it was a hot night last night and I don’t think they got much sleep.”
“It really was hot! I can’t believe this weather,” Kate said. “It’s lovely, really.”
“Hmm,” Ellie agreed, examining her bare legs to see whether she was getting any sun. They glared back at her, still very white. “You must be boiling in jeans.”
“I am, I’m really regretting not wearing a summer dress,” she answered. “I’m rather envious of yours, I must say.”
“Oh, thank you,” Ellie said. “It’s from Next.”
At that moment, there was a loud outcry from the watching crowd and both women’s heads snapped round to see what had happened – one of the green players was on the ground, and a white player still sat atop his horse was stood beside him, looking innocent. Ellie recognized John.
“Oh god, I think that’s Harry,” Kate said, for she had stood up to see. Ellie got to her feet too, worried. “He looks okay.”
Harry was not okay. Harry was fuming. He stood up from the ground, swearing under his breath, and dusted the dirt off his white trousers. He could feel his cheeks burning under the attention of all the spectators, but instead of looking at them he glared up at John.
“Sorry,” John said, smirking, evidently not sorry in the slightest.
“Fuck you, you know that’s against the rules,” Harry spat.
“Aw, baby,” John taunted, riding away. Harry glared at him, chest heaving.
“Harry, you alright?” William said, trotting over. Harry managed a nod, rubbing his arm which was bruised from the fall before pulling himself back on to his horse. “You sure?”
“Yes, William, I’m fine,” Harry said impatiently. “Can we just get on with it so I can beat you and wipe that look off that smug prick’s face?”
William raised his eyebrows in surprise, then nodded over at the referee, who signaled at the players to resume the game. Harry galloped away, to the side, taking a moment to make sure his helmet was on okay.
“Harry!” someone called from outside the field. He looked up to see Kate and sat beside her  his stomach clenched – was Ellie. “You okay?!”
“Yeah,” he said, throwing them both a cheeky smile. “Just got ahead of myself.”
Kate laughed. “What did I tell you?” she said to Ellie. “He’s fearless.”
Ellie laughed lightly, her eyes on Harry as he tightened the strap round his neck. He glanced her way once more, sending a thrill through her, before he ran back towards the game.
Harry was determined to show John, to teach him for forcing him off his horse. Part of him wondered whether John knew about the thoughts going round Harry’s head whenever Ellie was near, but he was sure it was more likely to be competitiveness. He seemed to remember William saying that John always made a game of polo more interesting. And, if that was by cheating, then Harry didn’t know if he wanted to play with him any more.
But he had to, at least for this game, so he decided to teach him a lesson by basically tailing him for the rest of the match.
“Will you piss off?!” John hissed five minutes later, after noticing that Harry never strayed far from his side, unless it was to dart across the field and score a point.
“I’m just playing the game,” Harry said innocently, smirking at him.
John scowled. “You’re not allowed to tail people.”
“Oh, is it against the rules?” Harry taunted. “Aw, baby.”
John’s face contorted furiously, and he galloped away, closely followed by Harry, who stole the small ball from him and hit it away, towards Nathan, who took it and scored another goal. Harry’s team were winning.
“You’ll fucking pay for that,” John snapped at Harry.
Harry merely laughed, enjoying this far more than he should’ve been.
Harry’s team ended up winning, with Harry cutting across John so John had to pull his horse back, nearly falling off in the process. As the whistle signaled the end of the game and the crowds applauded the winning team, Harry couldn’t help but glance over at Ellie and Kate. The two women were clapping, and he was sure that Ellie’s eyes were on him, not her husband.
No, that was probably just wishful thinking. He followed the rest of his team off the pitch.
*** Harry was drenched in sweat when he followed William out of the changing tent. John had already left in silence – sore loser – and Harry was in high spirits as he accompanied his brother over to where Kate was sat. Ellie was still sat there too.
“Aw, you played so well, darling,” Kate said, getting to her feet to pat William’s shoulder reassuringly.
“Just not well enough,” William said lightly, not too bothered. “Ah well. Where’s John?”
“He’s over there with the twins,” Ellie said, also standing up. Harry hadn’t noticed before, but she was wearing a short flowy summer dress that fluttered in the light breeze. She smiled up at him. “Congratulations.”
He couldn’t help but grin. “Thanks, it was a good game.”
“Only cause you won,” she teased lightly. “Are you okay, though? I saw you fall off.”
“Yeah, no thanks to that husband of yours,” he said playfully, although the thought of John made Harry want to punch something. “Well, guess I got him back.”
“You certainly did,” Ellie said, glancing over at where John was stood, watching his children play on the slide. She looked almost worried as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
“You okay?’ Harry asked.
“Yeah, just wondering what sort of mood he’ll be in now,” she said without thinking, then immediately wished she hadn’t. She didn’t like to talk about how horrible John could be when he was in a bad mood. She usually just kept her mouth shut and got on with life. To be honest, she had no idea why she’d said anything. Harry just seemed to do that – his eyes were too knowing. He was basically asking you to open up to him.
“Mood?” he quoted. “Shit, is he a really sore loser?”
“Yeah,” Ellie said, sticking to that explanation.
“Sorry,” Harry said, grinning. “That’ll teach him for pushing me off my horse.”
Her green eyes widened. “He pushed you?!”
“Pretty much,” he said. “But don’t worry, what happens on the field stays on the field.”
“Yeah,” she said, laughing lightly, almost nervously. She didn’t know what to say but she didn’t want the conversation to end. “You played really well.”
“Thanks,” he said, her compliment filling him up with delight. “I didn’t realise you were going to be here today.”
“Me neither, to be honest,” she said. “It was so sunny, though. We couldn’t resist the day out.”
“No, that’s true,” he said, shielding his eyes and looking over the pitch. “It really is a lovely day. Feels like summer.”
Ellie smiled at him, and he smiled back at her, both knowing their conversation was over but neither wanting to walk away. Beside them, Kate suddenly interrupted.
“Ellie, you and John are coming to the barbecue for William’s birthday, right?” Kate asked. “Next week?”
“Yeah, John said about it,” Ellie said, nodding.
“What about me?” Harry asked cheekily. “Where’s my invite?”
Kate rolled her eyes. “You’re already coming, silly.”
“You’re bringing the beer, remember?” William said, grinning. “You have one job, Harry. Don’t let me down.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there,” Harry said, throwing a crooked smile Ellie’s way, and she returned it, feeling her heart flutter in response. God, what was wrong with her?!
“Good game, Harry,” John said, joining them and snaking an arm round his wife’s waist.
“Thanks, John,” Harry said evenly. “At one point I thought you had it in the bag.”
“Hmm,” John said, his eyes hard. “So did I.”
“We’re just discussing the barbecue next week,” William said, breaking the tension. “No kids, alright?”
“Do you have something against the twins?” Ellie challenged playfully.
“Nothing at all, George and Charlotte won’t be there either,” William said. “It’ll just be nice to have everyone there, chilling, drinking, relaxing.”
“Sounds good,” John said. “We’ll bring some wine.”
Harry felt like leaving. He wasn’t really part of this conversation, and he wanted to go over and speak to his cousin Zara. Eventually, he forced himself to walk away from the group – bidding them goodbye with a last sweeping glance thrown Ellie’s way – and he joined Zara, Mike and Mia.
Ellie watched him leave, her eyes moving down his tight white jeans, those broad shoulders. Damn, he was incredibly fit, those arms were so strong. Every inch of him, from his polo boots to the ginger hairs that graced his jaw, reeked power and style. Maybe that was why she felt this way – because he had importance as well as good looks.
Over an hour later, when the spectators were starting to leave for home and Nathan had already bid Harry farewell, Harry saw Ellie strapping the twins into the car. Her words had been echoing round his head – about John’s moods – and he wanted to make sure that it wasn’t what he thought it was. He jogged up to her.
“Ellie!” he called, before she could get into the car herself. She turned, the wind ruffling her auburn hair, and she broke into a smile.
“Oh, hi,” she said. “Everything okay?”
“I just…I wanted to make sure…what you said earlier…about John being in a bad mood…” Harry struggled to find the words. “Everything’s okay, right?”
Ellie raised her eyebrows. “Okay?”
“Like, I mean, I know it’s not my place to pry but I’d never forgive myself if I knew and something happened to you-” He hesitated. ‘He doesn’t…hurt you…does he?”
“Of course not,” Ellie said, sounding angry.
“Because if he does-” Harry had been about to say that she should tell someone, him or someone else. Anyone. But Ellie interrupted.
“He doesn’t,” she snapped. “He’s my husband and we love each other very much. Sometimes we have our arguments, yes, but he has never laid a finger on me.” She looked disgusted. “Our marriage has nothing to do with you. Now goodbye, Harry.”
Harry nodded, walking away, cheeks burning, embarrassed at how that had gone. He hadn’t wanted to upset her, but he supposed he really had been a bit forward. He’d pried into their business. He just felt like something was up. It might not be domestic abuse, but there was something there. Something that wasn’t quite right.
He felt guilty for asking, but he didn’t regret it. He wanted her to know that he was there to talk to whenever she changed her mind about telling someone. Because he knew, eventually, she would want to tell someone what was up.
And he would be there, ready.
