Hi, Flower have you read Heaven officials blessing? if not I recommend it SO much! when I talk about it I want to cry the books are the definition of PERFECTION. What would Lotor and Keith's thoughts be on Hua Cheng and Xie Lian's relationship? Honestly tho I recommend it so much if you haven’t read it the books are magnificent and I believe you would love absolutely everything about it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've not yet read the original novels, but I am up to date with both the donghua (enjoyable, though at times the dual use of 2d & 3d animation was not as smooth as it could have been), and the manhua (✨immaculate and soul destroying✨)

I can't really say as to what Keith & Lotor would think of Xie Lian & Hua Cheng's relationship, because as of yet I still have a great deal of unanswered questions myself—and please, nobody spoil it for me!—but Hua Cheng's obvious devotion would certainly be an admirable thing in galra circles ♡

I can say the same to you bubba <33 The amount of cavities you've given me is insane. The idea of them desperately trying their best to keep you with them is just so ♡♡♡ They realized that there was something... different about you compared to others, they just could never truly place a finger on exactly how. But when your mission keeps getting interrupted because of them, even of the brisk of failing.. the punishment given by failing a certain amount of worlds is something you definitely want to avoid. So no matter how many times you have to reset this world, you are really trying to complete it. Hskfjad he's fully aware that you two will meet up eventually. Sometimes it does take longer than others, but whenever it does take longer he can only think about staying with you.

Nothing's stopping him from just... keeping you. You've always come back to him, he has always found you and you've always found him. It's inevitable that it will happen regardless, so why can't he just have you stay forever? Xie Lian can't help but feel frustrated when he thinks about you having to part from him.

You feel the same way. Why do you have to keep repeating this cycle? Living, finding Xie Lian, staying with him until your death, get born again, wait a few years, find him, a constant repeat that never changes. You will always be brought back to him. You just want to stay with him constantly. Not having to change and forget, you want to stay. He can remember, so why can't you? It's never fully, either.

He can recall the first time you two ever met, but you can't. He is prideful of always remembering things related to you, and although you already know his, it's engraved deep into your soul, you can't remember his first reactions to it. How he must've looked when he first discovered his new favorite thing,, how happy did he look? Did he enjoy it right away? Did it gradually grow on him??

Why can't you just stay with him forever? Although you'll always be brought back to him, Xie Lian always makes sure of it, why must you both go through this bittersweet cycle?

Dove, yes what if one day he doesn't find you,, but what if slowly the days he finds you become longer?? He'd have to wait for you for a couple of years either way, but he can't help but feel like the waiting has been growing longer. He hates thinking of that. It's just seeming longer because he misses you. He wants you by his side constantly,, he will always wait for you. He's just desperate for your company. For your touch. For you. That's why it feels longer every time recently.... Right? But when the waiting periods go from years to decades, and those decades frighteningly span from just 3 decades to almost a full century,, the panic and dread filling him shakes every passing hour.

You always come back to him. He always wants to be with you. You always want to be with him. You crave each other, wanting to be with one another constantly. Although this cycle tears you apart from one another, you always find your way back.

It's just eventually all cycles come to a stop, but for the two of you it's not anytime soon. Right?

Yesss pretty puppies pretty darlings <<3333 My dog would always lean on me whenever I'd pet him, and I can't help but think of Xie Lian and Hua Cheng happily pressing against you whenever you praise them. Stroke their heads and tell them how good they are, and they're stuck to you for hours <333 I can see Xie Lian doing it more timidly and bashfully, happily pressing up against you with flushed cheeks and a shy smile before hiding his face into your chest or stomach,,, but I can see Hua Cheng energetically going to you. He tries not to be obvious about it, acting nonchalant,, but he constantly drops hints about things he'd done so you could go and praise him,, then he'd happily lean and cling to you <333 They always try to stay close to you too,,, making sure not to stray too far from you, always wanting to be by your side... They're both just so adorable idk what to do <//333

Maybe after taking care of Hua Cheng for so long while waiting for Xie Lian that you accidentally do the same habits... You'd always play with Xie Lians hair, combing it and tying it up all pretty. You'd love to braid it too,, not even in one big large braid, but sometimes just a small single strand that he didn't need to focus on much. But with you now taking care of Hua Cheng, you've accidentally kept that habit with him, not that he's complaining. He loves the way your fingers run through his scalp. At first, Hua Cheng didn't understand why you'd do it, but he dealt with it because you seemed to be happy doing it. Now, he will come up to you and ask if you're okay with doing it when you have time. He happily asks if you can play with his hair, braiding it and even putting things in it. He remembers one time you braided his hair and weaved some flowers in it, it made him happy. You thought he looked nice? You think he looks good with his hair like that?? Do you want to do it again????

Maybe Xie Lian getting jealous when he sees that too,, you did that with him before, it was something you'd do when the two of you spent time together, alone,, and now you're doing it with someone else?? He doesn't even think of the hundreds of others things that you do with just him. He knows how nice and comforting that is, and now you're doing it with someone that isn't him???

Hua Cheng teasing you for curling up on his chest,, but he absolutley adores it when you do <333 He knows that with you still being a will-o'-wisp that his yin energy is comforting,, but the fact that you don't even try to refute his teasing, instead indulging him and teasing back,,, he can't help but be really happy (*ﾉ▽ﾉ) Telling you that you should always try to stick to him, always try to have some form on contact with him so you can gain more energy, totally not so he can touch you more,, (him getting embarrassed by how he reacts with his chest, always trying to tell you, beg you to not touch it,, it's too much,, but still bringing your hands up to it once his mind is all fuzzy, some times not even realizing himself)

Evocative melancholy wistful tone, really effective!

At the end of the story I'm left with many questions, but in a good way

On the English Approach to the Study of History, by E. Saxey

huh, in the end I'm not entirely convinced I LIKE this novella but it's odd and compelling and interesting for sure

about the academic study of history in a context where a very specific subset of people have access to a very specific subset of historical figures to ask them directly about what they remember

asking questions about who's an insider vs an outsider in academic study, about the values of different approaches to history

ultimately I think it turned too much into a story about the fantastical elements in the narrative and didn't engage as deeply with the themes as I thought it would at the beginning

but it's still a very interesting and well done story and I'm glad I read it!

i’m not too sure how helpful i’ll be at writing at tutorial but i can definitely explain the process i go through when drawing hair !

before i start drawing, i’d find references of the character so i can have a better idea of how to start

(xie lian’s so pretty and i can’t stop staring 🥹💖💕)

but basically, i want to try and find references of the different angles so i can understand how the hair is styled !

afterwards, i’ll break it down into portions to draw — in this case, we have the front bangs, head, buns, side hair, and back hair

i usually start with the front bangs, but i think it might be easier if the head was drawn first so you can see where exactly the bangs would wrap around

in all honestly tho, i think the most important part of the process is to play around and have fun with it too !! ☺️🌼💕

you don’t have to restrict yourself to “set rules” and there’s really no “right” way to draw either ..!

this is just the method i tend to use for myself but i’m really, really not consistent in how i draw hair either 😂 😂

i didn’t used to wrap the front bangs all the way around and sometimes i’ll throw in little hair wisps because i simply feel like it

all in all, just go wild with it and enjoy the ride !! the more you have fun, the more motivated you’ll be to keep drawing what you love and the habit will build over time! ☺️🫶💖💕

Have you considered the possibility of Hualian with ace Hua Cheng and celibate (at least previously celibate) Xie Lian? Like Hua Cheng who just always understood that Xie Lian wouldn't be interested in a sexual relationship and was like, "sure, no problem here!" And then they reunite and Xie Lian is like "ah, this is awkward, about that actually 😅" before they communicate and learn what works for them? I usually really prefer their canon characterization but I think it would be a fun way to explore parallels and contrast between asexuality and celibacy (and actually wait. What if Hua Cheng we as aroace actually, wouldn't that do something cool to his obsessive devotion?) I'm not a fic writer but I know you've written asexual Xie Lian so I thought maybe you'd be ok with me rambling a little. (Love your fic by the way, thanks for writing!)

i have not! but am intrigued abt the possibility

tbh I do usually headcanon both of them as ace-ish (varies between demi and asexual, mostly) but can definitely see this going down a fun path!

I am of the opinion that romance has relatively* little to do with Hua Cheng's devotion, so I'd still largely see his devotion as manifesting in similar ways to canon** (more or less—probs less kissing, but honestly possibly still flirting bc there's a thin line between flirting bc ur serious abt it and flirting bc hey it's sometimes kind of fun to flirt with the homies).

all of that to say I think it would be a really interesting continuation of their character development for Xie Lian to come to accept his worth and importance to someone while also being told 'no' in a way he is used to telling other people***. Meanwhile, fun time for Hua Cheng to actually say no to Xie Lian, which would go against so much of him!

As always, my great love of hualian stems in part from their manifestation of queerness outside of societal norms/expectations, so navigating "You Are The Reason I'm Alive" (for both of them) without the trappings of society's expectations that the Most Important Person in ur life is a romantic partner, is rlly interesting i think!!

*Yes, in canon it is romantic and I do enjoy the combo of his obsessive devotion + hualian romance but ppl who think Grand Devotion is exclusive to romantic love bore the shit out of me

**I touch on this in til my feet are memory (tho Xie Lian is aroace in that), in that Hua Cheng's devotion is devotion without expectation of reciprocation (this is a fandom hill i'll die on lol) and that it isn't diminished by lack of romantic/sexual potential with Xie Lian

***Yeah yeah I maintain my lack of emphasis on romance/sex as defining their relationship but I do think, as written, the romance is pretty important to XL's arc—which is not to negate the possibility so much as emphasize the opportunity for continued and different development

enfkjenkenfe so turns out I forgot a lot of important incidents and had to go back and reread a bunch of book 2 (heart breaking experience even when you know what's gonna happen T-T) and there's this one line that made me laugh tho where Fengxin describes Hua Cheng when he was younger

“That brat will definitely grow up to be a good man!” Feng Xin commented.

lmao dude has noooo idea that this 'good man' will the bane of his existence in the future lmao

ok ok now for the actual reading!!

Everything here feels so sad like Xie Lian here is rejecting the steamed buns, the very same steamed buns that years later, he will happily eat off the ground....

Feng Xin and Mu Qing were already waiting for him outside. Feng Xin had brought back steaming-hot buns, and Mu Qing was slowly munching at them. Feng Xin passed two over to Xie Lian, but when Xie Lian saw those dull and dry crude buns he lost his appetite. He shook his head, refusing them.

My heaaart! Xie Lian gets his cooking skills from his mom T-T that's so cute but so heart breaking considering the circumstances.

I reread book 2 and saw it happen but to see the origins of this tradition is just....sad (gotta increase my vocab, something says Im going to need more words to describe sad soon lol)

i get that people genderbend male character to be female in mxtx stories (esp if those ppl are wlw) because the majority of characters are male and it is focused on mlm content. so i support wlw simping over cool necromancer lesbians you go girlies, but in general i tend to stay away from genderbend stuff because sooooo much of it is made by cis ppl and it can be a bit transphobic? it also a lot of the times falls into the cishet gender stereotype shit of "women big boobie slim waist small big lips big eyes, men big buff strong macho 8 pack square" which is! oh no cringe!

yeah EXACTLY like my thoughts too. bc the vast majority of genderbending made by cis ppl really is just. like you said. biological gender stereotype shit. i feel like most trans people i see are made pretty uncomfortable by this, and i can totally see why, so i am too. but at the same time i DO understand wlw who want more content with girls/wlw characters esp when there are so few to begin with. so like im kinda willing to give wlw the benefit of the doubt in this case even though i dont rly like to interact with it myself. but also, my beloved sisters in christ... baihe exists

the only genderbending ill really interact with is works with sqx, he xuan*, and hua cheng like since theyre the ones that are shown to or mentioned to change gender in canon. (ling wen too, tho tbh i dont rly care about male!ling wen lmfao, just for the sole reason that, well. i am a lesbian. tho i do have to say the lore behind her male form is actually rather compelling and i think if mxtx were more skilled and open to writing analysis about gender, it could lead to a very thoughtful and nuanced discussion of how ling wen views herself, rather than just if she looks like a cis woman shes a woman if she looks like a cis man shes a man. because iirc she only shapeshifted to get the extra power she had in her male form? that doesnt mean that she is now a man, but in those scenes the book automatically refers to her as such. would love an extra about ling wen's self image and gender. but no, we had to get the statue sex and weird underage amnesia stuff 🙄)

BUT ANYWAY like idk if it really counts as genderbending in tgcf's case? but either way i know mxtx made that ~gods and ghosts can change gender at will~ thing just as a haha comedic relief thing like i think them having the power to do that is totally cool but i do not think it was done respectfully at all, especially with sqx, since mxtx kind of either intentionally or not sends the message (at least to me) that you can only be trans if you pass as cis. ive said it a million times before and ill say it again but the way sqx is never referred to as a woman (by the characters, the narrative, and even THEMSELF) after they lose the ability to LOOK like a cis woman is so so infuriating to me. like theyre not going to just STOP being genderfluid/trans just bc they cant change their appearance. and also not to mention throughout the book they were just kinda treated as being silly and immature for wanting to change their gender in the first place, so, another win for transphobia i guess. though i can appreciate having a canon trans/genderfluid character, they definitely could have been written better in that regard

*while i love fem!he xuan... it did leave a kinda dirty taste in my mouth when mxtx had to make sure we knew that he xuan only did it to appease sqx, and actually hated being a woman. and the way it was talked about too like 'oh he was forced to be in a womans body so OF COURSE he was super pissed the entire time' like i cant explain it but it was just kind of upsetting. kinda transphobic and misogynist. one might even say,..... transmisogynist 🤔

End of 2023 autumn season - part 2

Check out this post to read part 1 of my autumn 2023 reviews! It includes my opinions on Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden deductions and Spy x Family season 2.

This part 2 includes opinions on Heaven Official's Blessing season 2 and Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. I waited so long to post this so I could include both reviews in one post since Heaven Official's Blessing actually only just finished this week.

In part 1 I didn't discuss any plot points so no spoiler warning was included; this time I'm talking about 2 of my absolute favourite adaptations - hence SPOILER WARNING for Jujutsu Kaisen and Heaven Official's Blessing (short discussions of the novel as well).

Heaven Official's Blessing, Season 2

Mmmkay so here's the thing... After watching season 1 on Netflix 2 years ago, I bought volume 1 of the official translation, read it and then kinda... Gave up. Then as the hype of season 2 started and then after the first couple episodes came out I became intrigued enough to finally read the rest of the books. And then I got even more attached to Hualian - which caused my MXTX spiral but that's besides the point.

Reading the books was actually a great decision because knowing what happens allowed me to appreciate the adaptation that much more. The first couple episodes of the season were not that exciting for me (I don't particularly enjoy the Banyue arc so I don't care for the aftermath) but then as we properly got into the gambler's den scenes, paradise manor, Fang Xin guoshi - I was hooked. I especially enjoyed the adaptation of the Qi Rong cave scenes and the Gilded Banquet arc. I also seriously loved the liberties the adaptation took with some scenes - like adding more information about the Gilded Banquet and Lord Anle. NOVEL SPOILERS [Hated (but loved) how they teased Xie Lian's parents' suicide - that scene crashed my SOUL as I wasn't expecting to see anything regarding that arc for another couple seasons at least.

Regarding censorship, this season wasn't too bad; do keep in mind tho, nothing too crazy happens in volume 2 which is what season 2 adapted. We lost the lap scene from paradise manor unfortunately. Xie Lian not falling into Hua Cheng's lap was a big loss but instead we got Xie Lian carrying Hua Cheng bridal style out of the way? I don't know, can't complain too much about that one.]

The animation, art and music were, as expected, incredible. This season elevated this donghua for me and earned its spot into my top 10. It probably helps how attached I am to the books and knowing what's coming. Overall, definitely one of my faves of the season. Please give this donghua a chance if you love fantasy.

Jujutsu Kaisen, Season 2

I have so many thoughts. So many feelings.

If you know me or have followed me for any length of time at all - or literally just by reading my name - you'll know that Jujutsu Kaisen is my favourite series of all time. Season 2 ran for almost half of 2023 and for me, it was my favourite of the season, not unexpectedly considering my love for the manga and the anime being my favourite of all time.

I don't wanna talk about the plot of hidden inventory and Shibuya arc cause we all know it's genius writing and plot so.... Let's just hype it up!

First of all, I can't speak about how beautiful the adaptation was and the incredible job the animators did without also talking about how MAPPA treats their employees with the least amount of respect they could. If you weren't online and weren't keeping up with the fandom on twitter as the season 2 was being aired, there were multiple animators from the jjk team tweeting about how horrible they feel and the mental load they are under from the pressure to finish animating jjk with a schedule that was unrealistic. Please show some love to the jjk animators and remember to thank the team - not MAPPA!

That being said, the animation team was ON IT. There was not one single episode that disappointed me - I was instead wowed by every new episode that came out and especially the extended fights, such as Megumi vs Toji, Sukuna vs Mahoraga, Yuji vs Mahito were so well done and beyond my expectations every single time. Even knowing what was about to happen, I was left at the edge of my seat, gasping at how beautiful the adaptation was every. single. time. without fail. I made an event of every new episode and my Thursday nights basically became rituals while the season was being aired.

ANIME SPOILERS [I have to specifically mention that Nanami's death episode, Nobara's death (jury's still out on her death if you cope really hard) and every episode after that were world changing, brain-altering, earth shatteringly good. I mourned Nanami's death for 3 days even knowing it was coming. The animators did an insane job and really did him justice. The whole dancing on the beach transitioning into the fight scenes was simply, insane. I love Nanami. Gege give him BACKKKKKKKK]

Anw this post is basically just Jujutsu Kaisen praise. I love Jujutsu Kaisen and this season surpassed my expectations and I loved every moment of it. Everyone should watch Jujutsu Kaisen, just be warned of the tragedy. And trauma. And many deaths.

You still treat him as if he is the rarest thing in the world, the most precious thing,, when you press soft kisses against him, asking if he's okay, petting his hair and telling him how good he is, how perfect he is–,,, but he can't deny that the roughness is wonderful change too.

And when he calls out your name, not the one the people of this life gave you, but your true, real name,, you can't help but slip and drown in the addictiveness of your Xie Lian.

I can't help but think of Xie Lian and Hua Cheng both being cute puppies that will follow you around, always willing to do whatever you want as long as it makes you happy, being the most loyal and the most devoted to only you,,, man I could just go on and on lmao Hua Cheng would definitely tease as much as he can when you're still a will-o'-wisp, he adores you, you would always be there to protect him when you could, but now he's finally doing that for you, "Oh, how the roles have switched!"
