The high priest's posture is rigid, shoulders tense as he overlooks some people with a scrutinizing gaze. Here they were, socializing and partying with reckless abandon when they should be more faithful and devoted to the gods! It was pathetic, especially when most people in El Dorado didn't take him seriously.

Tzekel-Kan replies to Delilah with a venomous tone, albeit it is not to her; it is to the people whom he saw as lesser. His lips purse with an underlying sense of bitterness, his feelings brewing within like a rolling thunderstorm.

" I should be treated with the respect I am worthy of due to my position, the Speaker of the Gods... but they do not see that. They do not understand how the gods work like I do, their feeble minds incompetent to be faithful. Or ignorant. Lowly vermin, they are. "

Detail that I like about the movie and a good characterization in the language and expressions of the character of Tzekel-Kan: Showing be angry or frustrated with the presence of the Chief Tannabok. The idea of seeing him speak or "take" control when speaking with the two protagonists seriously bothers the priest of a lot. Perhaps because he thinks that the chief of El Dorado is very soft or just because he prefers to maintain control and order in the city, ignoring the superior in front of him. And yet, except for a moment, he still tries to maintain that image of faithful gentile by the side of the "gods" when treating his chief.

The Road to El Dorado Theory

Okay, so we all know Dreamworks' story of Miguel and Tulio finding El Dorado, yes? So what if Miguel and Tulio were NOT the first people to find the city of gold? First and foremost, the two protagonists speak the same language as the natives of El Dorado with no issue. There is no way that could happen UNLESS someone from Spain had arrived and taught them the language (or a similar situation, though this seems most likely). Next, we have the map. Who made it? The warrior scouts of El Dorado woukdn't have needed or used a map; they would have had to know the layout of the area by heart. Only a total foreigner would have needed it. Which would also explain why a sailor in Spain has a geographically accurate map of an apparently unexplored area. Finally, we have Cheif Tannebak (not sure if that is how it is spelled, but I'm going with it). He knew from the start that Tulio and Miguel were NOT gods. You can see this in his facial features througout the movie. More significantly, in his line to Miguel aboard the boat, "to err is human." In the closed culture of El Dorado, there would be no reason whatsoever for any of their people to question the gods. Unless the cheif had a run-in with a foreigner and had the map made. This brings into question HOW a foreigner came to know of these people. If they claimed to be a god and left similarly to Miguel and Tulio, the high priest might have become susicious, as well as the citizens. Tzekel-Kan stated "... did I not predict the gods would come to us?" This in general implies that he still has unwavering faith. As such, we can assume that any previous foreigners were not met by the priest. Any ideas? That is what I have on why Tulio and Miguel were not the first to discover the people of El Dorado. Thanks one and all, and any suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you for the ask! Please ask me before continuing it into a thread. [CHECK]: after an unexpectedly violent situation, sender frantically rushes to check if the receiver is okay, cupping their face to look closer.

Being hit in the face a couple of times was not on the high priest's checklist for the day, but it was inevitable. There were a few people that squabbled amongst themselves, the situation escalating from there as one person initiated a fight. The sound of fists hitting skin and scuffling caught his attention, and Tzekel-Kan immediately rushed over to break up the fight. He pushes the fighting people apart, only to let out a sharp yell as he gets decked in the face.

Despite the hits that were being delivered to him, he continued to distance them apart until he was sure they weren't going to fight again. The air was now charged with violent tension, his breathing ragged as his cheek throbbed from pain. He was ready to tell them off for being so foolish during an important event but faltered when Lyell had shown up as well. Strange, he thought, he must've heard the commotion too.

" Lyell, I assure you, I am fi- "

Tzekel-Kan starts to explain the situation, only for his breath to catch when Lyell reaches up to cup his face with his hand. The gesture was firm yet surprisingly gentle, more out of concern than anything else. He makes no move as Lyell inspects his face, knowing that they could see his disheveled hair and the slight bruise on his cheek.

" I am fine, n-no need to worry! I was merely breaking up a fight- "

the worthless sacrifice

you die to protect something you love. it does not matter in the end. if it's a person, they still die shortly after, if it's a war, you still lose. your death means nothing. the only people who could've appreciated it will be gone quickly as well. you will die thinking you have done something, when really you have done nothing. perhaps that is the saddest thing of all.

the unfinished

you die, hand outstretched towards the sky, as if to say 'I'm not done yet.' there are so many things you still have to do, so many goals you still have to reach. you've spent your entire life working towards them, and doing nothing else, only to die before knowing what accomplishment feels like. they'll say your death was a pity, that you had such a bright future ahead of you. it is one you'll never get to see.

the sacrifice

you die saving the thing you love. maybe it is family, friends, perhaps even a cause. they will carry your face with them for the rest of their lives, and every milestone they pass will make them think of you. it does not matter because you won't be there to experience it with them. years down the line, they will meet people who do not even know the weight of your name upon their skin. this is what your selflessness gets you in the end.

the betrayal

you die at the hands of the person you love most. maybe there are tears in their eyes as they drive the sword into your chest, maybe there is none. there are certainly tears in yours. your mouth will open to ask 'why' only to spit blood instead. you will die never knowing if they loved you at all, wondering if you could've done something to prevent this, or if it was always going to end this way.

Frollo’s eyes narrow, feeling anger bubble up inside of him. What kind of person were you for making accusations towards him like this? While we probably know of his behavior, the judge thinks whatever he does is justified. His arms cross, glaring at you.

“ Excuse me? How dare you talk to me in that way and assume. You do not know me, you do not know of me, I have done nothing wro- ”

He yelps as he gets shoved to the side, surprised that he didn’t fall. Frollo only stumbled a bit, letting out a scoff as he watches you point towards the two men. Syndrome’s head perks up, and Tzekel-Kan gives only a small sly smile, not expressing too much emotion.

“ Me? Deserving tenderness? Well! I’m flattered, stranger. I’m crazy rich and I’m a hero. Of course I’d be better than this old fart in a dress, huh? ”

Syndrome addresses to no one in particular, giving Tzekel-Kan a nudge on his shoulder. He, meanwhile, leans away from the redhead, still subtly smirking. He seems flattered that he was better in some manner and deserved tenderness. Frollo grits his teeth, embarrassed that his robe was called a dress.

“ I doubt that, but perhaps. I am grateful that I am deserving on tenderness as well, thank you. I just desire to do my duties... to serve the gods and speak for them, make sure sacrifices are plenty to please them. ”

Meanwhile, a voice sighs from the ether, clearly unamused with the interaction going on between the three men. So what if an anonymous person had an opinion over which ones were deserving or not? She thought otherwise; she knew they were all bad! That wasn’t the point!

“ All three of you knuckleheads are evil, all three of you. That wasn’t the point, but I guess we all have our...preferences. I’d explain further as to why all three of you could be ‘deserving’, but I’d be here all day, so. ”

The strong, metallic scent of old blood was enough to make the acolyte queasy, but Tzekel-Kan was not fazed by it at all. How long had they been out here, especially with wounds that looked this bad? His eyes narrow in scrutiny, seeing that they bled out: his gods do not bleed. Acolyte had heard about the occasional person from the city getting slaughtered by jaguars, so maybe that’s what they meant?

“ A big cat? Maybe one of the jaguars attacked, my lord. They are bleeding badly– I am surprised they did not get eaten alive. We should be quick if we are to take them back. Before it gets to us, too. ” “ Right. We have to make it back without raising suspicion; we must go through one of the back routes. Hm. You. ”

Tzekel-Kan addressed Sulvur firmly, glancing between them and the acolyte for a moment. He takes a step back, seeing that their hands had been practically gripping that tree. Part of him predicts that they cannot stand on their own due to blood loss, but he wasn’t too sure.

“ Can you walk on your own, or at the very least stand without having to hold on to something? Just checking, if not, my acolyte can assist you. ”

It had been a couple of days now, Tzekel-Kan having shown various symptoms of a nasty stomach flu. The symptoms today were milder than what he was subjected to, so he insisted that he was fine and that the illness was settling itself down by now. He slowly shifts out of bed, getting up to try and do something productive, only to freeze once Nacara had sternly ordered him to return back to bed.

“ But Nacara, I am fine! A little clammy, but really, I am okay! I believe I can- ”

He soon gives a low groan, feeling the onset of another cramp in his abdomen. His eyes only narrow at the snake woman, staring for a moment before giving a subtle, agreeing nod. Maybe it would be best to listen to her “order” if it was best for him. He sluggishly moves back to the comforts of the bed, feeling his aching body shiver from the chills that came with his fever.

“ If you insist... I will get back to bed. I almost believed that I was starting to feel better today. ”

Tzekel-Kan kept himself at a respectable distance as Bestia worked, knowing that she was trying to “convert” the souls of people into willing minions. However, he became more curious as furious growling came from across the room. He doesn’t even question her as he approaches, a hand gently combing through her silky ebony hair. It calmed some people down, so maybe this could work. It was comforting to say the least when the growling turned into purring, so he got closer when she had moved.

“ They did, a little... However, I didn’t want to upset you more than you already were. I’m surprised that you are not. For now, at least. ”

“ I have no clue as to why they fight back, my Mistress. Maybe they do not understand how caring you are to those that you trust? You are a presence to behold, after all, they are likely afraid. Therefore, I theorize they have resistance because they want to keep their independence and run away. ”

This was an exciting offer, but he has to be subtle about it. After his eyes dart about the room for a few moments, the high priest clears his throat, giving a quick nod that made his earrings jingle ever so slightly. He takes slow steps and heads over to where she was, going to find another seat nearby.

“ You insist? Well, that is— very kind of you. I suppose I have time for a drink with you, I’d love to. ”
