So much love and recognition to the people who don't know how they feel about recovering. To the people whose scars are fading away, and there's a sinking feeling, despite knowing that it's a good thing. To the people who miss when they were "worse," when they felt "broken." To the people who mourn losing their coping mechanisms, even the ones that were destructive, scary, or unpleasant. To those who feel guilty they're healing because their past self wasn't ready.

Whatever it is, there is nothing wrong with any of those feelings. It's a natural reaction, something you don't have ultimate control over. There is nothing shameful about yourself, and I admire the strength it takes to recognize how you feel, even the parts that do feel like the "wrong" reaction to a Good Thing.

even if your physical disability was caused by something specific you did, you still don’t deserve to deal with all this pain and suffering.

weight gain, suicide attempts, self harm, self inflicted injuries in general, overworking yourself / pushing your limits, not working ergonomically / doing tasks incorrectly and many other things can make you physically disabled and even if it is your fault, you still don’t deserve it. no one does.

Danny needs to leave this stupid interview. He has a plan.

The Mayor of Amity, Vlad, is hosting a press conference in regards to the local antihero, Phantom.

Reporters from Star City, Central City, Gotham, Houston, Metropolis; basically the best reporters of the biggest cities that could be flown in.

And, for some reason, he demanded Danny (and Jack and Maddie and Jazz) be on stage with him.

Danny knows he's planning something. He needs to get off the stage.

There's not a lot around him to use, though. No ghosts to beg to attack and kidnap him, no GIW agents, no nothing. Even more suspicious.

The only thing is the Maintenance Guy's trolley, which only has cleaning products and a single screwdriver on it.

He looks up.

Catches the eye of the reporter from Metropolis, grabs the screwdriver, makes his hand intangible in one spot, and pretends to stab himself in the hand in front of everyone.

Then he solidifies his hand around the screwdriver, but keeps where it's impaled intangible.

He looks up at the dead silent reporters and an equally horrified Vlad.

"Oops," Danny shrugs, before turning around and walking off stage before any of the adult's brains can compute what just happened.

People who compare transition to self harm or use real people they know who've self-harmed as a metaphorical comparison to transitioning aren't making the gotcha they think they're making - they're just showing that they don't have the compassion or maturity to engage with either topic at even a conversational level.

And, frankly, it's infuriating as a person who does see those who self-harm as my equal who doesn't need to be used as a cudgel against another group of often vulnerable people.

Still going through it emotionally btw. I've seen a lot of character death in anime but it's been a WHILE since I've seen one as brutal as Ace's, especially bc of Luffy's reaction to it. Character death isn't unusual but the trauma and PTSD that comes after it isn't really shown that often so Oda actually showing Luffy going through it is. Oof. That shit HURTS bro. And the fact that Luffy's immediate reaction is to just. Self destruct. To hurt himself and risk his own life?? Like it was never explicitly said but I could see the suicidal intent there and jesus CHRIST. Just sitting there watching him refuse to accept it and then mourn and grieve was absolutely brutal;; Not to mention the fact that like. We can see him having PTSD flashbacks. It was just written very well (too well bc I'm still a goddamn mess) and I gotta commend Oda even tho he's putting me through the fucking wringer

The worst thing about having a self-harm addiction is that it isn't taken seriously as an addiction. I get cravings, I relapse, I was dependent on self-harming for over a year, but that isn't taken seriously as an addiction. There isn't a substance involved so it isn't an addiction. Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve to be able to call myself an addict even though I know that I am one. Whenever I try to tell anyone about it they get this mental image of the stereotyped emo kid self harming to MCR 'to feel something' and laugh when I try to call it an addiction (not that that isn't totally valid. It's where a lot of us started, myself included). I can't confess that this is something I struggle with because my own mother told me that I wasn't actually addicted, there just wasn't a better word for someone who self harms. Of course, it not being treated as an addiction helps in a social sense due to all the stigma around addicts, but it has its own stigma.
