So this is not quite an ask but THANK YOU for doing god's work of injecting some actual nuance, defending bolin (among other things), critiquing the comics, and all the plot holes/things that just don't make sense which become glaringly obvious if one thinks about any aspect for more than two seconds (lol but you know this already duh) and am only annoyed I did not stumble upon this blog sooner, since I am so done with this show (but also I keeping at it like the scabs). hello, and thank you! also it’s funny that defending bolin is the first thing you list because I thought I made it pretty clear that I think his character is direly poorly-written and that I do not care for him. but… you’re welcome I guess? but yes obviously critiquing the comics and imbuing nuance and all of that I will definitely gladly take credit for. and thank you for liking my art! i do occasionally write fanfic, but i’ve only ever shown it to my friends and never actually posted it anywhere, so functionally, my answer would be no. i have debated posting it in the past, but idk, i don’t think that would be a good idea. maybe someday i’ll snap tho who knows.

Also because I clicked on the ask button before I had a brain fart (so if this would come off a bit deranged for posting an ask right after the first my apologies), I also want to mention the commentary that Iroh being 'everyone's favourite sexist' is gold because we just gloss over that and no one ever seems to mention that scene. Another thing about atla is that the reason given for Zuko's constant internal struggle and conflict is because he's descended from the previous avatar and the fire lord but hello, Azula?? Did Ursa have an affair now?? Isn't she just as worthy of redemption, or the fact she's just as abused anyhoo ok im done

I mean I’m assuming by “that scene” you mean the one with june, but tbh his misogyny isn’t relegated to simply one unpalatable scene. it’s reflected in how he treats azula (versus zuko) across the show. and I know that zuko is softer and more amenable than azula, and he has demonstrated a desire to do good that azula hasn’t, but it’s also quite troubling that iroh just writes off his fourteen year old niece as a lost cause when she is also the sibling who most resembles him. and he somehow just can’t seem to understand that she is worthy of the same empathy and compassion and understanding as zuko is, that playing favorites like this isn’t good or normal. and I actually think that azula has it way worse than iroh, both because she’s a girl and because azulon seemed to love iroh conditionally (despite clearly not feeling the same about ozai), whereas ozai’s love for azula is incredibly conditional and does not exempt her from his violence. but you know. her hysterical wandering womb is outta control she needs to go down she cant be trusted she’s a sickopath!!!! like. ok old man.

as for your next point, I do think that what iroh says about zuko’s ancestry reflecting the ideological battle within him is fully bullshit, but I do reconcile that by interpreting iroh’s claims not as what he truly believes, but as a rhetorical point he thinks might get through to zuko. because he’s really run the gamut of wisdom and guidance, some of it even being contradictory, just in an attempt to pierce through zuko’s thick, stubborn skull. and it does pay off, eventually, but it takes ages to get there. like how much do you wanna bet his first approach was to just straight up be like “your father is an abuser and you shouldn’t adhere to his dogmas.” and then when that didn’t work he started getting creative with it. and like, the reason it gets through to zuko isn’t even because roku was his great grandfather, but because he was ursa’s grandfather. and realizing that he too can be good and stand up for what he believes in, like her, his true role model, is his ultimate takeaway from that lesson. but I really do think by that point iroh’s rhetorical strategy was really to just throw vaguely pertinent metaphors at the wall to see what sticks.

ok so. i am currently working on a fic. its a story that has been rotating in my brain for years about an avengers OC. idk if i want to start posting it as a WIP or wait until it's finished.

what im gonna do is post the prologue here, under the cut. it is entirely worldbuilding because. i came up with a new alien species with Lore™️ that i made as canon compliant as possible because im a fucking nerd. so you kinda need to know all of that before i can tell the actual story.

quick summary of the fic as a whole: The last surviving member of the Light Elf race, Einar, is taken in by the Avengers when they are orphaned at 10 years old. They nurse Einar back to health, and slowly form a bond with them, helping them to process their grief and heal from their trauma. There's a lot of fluff, a lot of angst, a lot of hurt/comfort, and of course found family.

It starts during the events of Thor: The Dark World and follows the storyline of the MCU from there.

Prologue:

In the beginning, there was only darkness. The only world to exist in that darkness was a tiny, desolate rock named Alfheim. This was the home of my ancestors, the Elves, before time, before space, before light.

No one knows how long they lived like that, alone in the dark. All we know is that at some point that darkness ended. The universe began, and light and life exploded into existence. For most of the Elves, this was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen. They swore to protect and nurture all life and to serve the light. But others believed that this was a perversion of the natural order, that the universe belonged in darkness and should be returned to that state. They vowed to destroy the light by any means possible.

War broke out between the two opposing sides, an Elvish Civil War that lasted for many billions of years, with both sides only ever coming together to kill each other. And so, they evolved separately into two species: the Dark Elves and the Light Elves. Each side became stronger and stronger with each generation, evolving new abilities and traits to give them an edge in battle.

A few millennia ago, a great battle ensued between these two sides on Svardalfheim. The Dark Elves tried to use their most powerful weapon, the Aether, to destroy the universe. The Light Elves fought with all their might, but the Dark Elves had the upper hand. That is until the Asgardians arrived.

Odin's father, King Bor, and his army tipped the scales and won the battle for the Light Elves. They confiscated the Aether and sealed it away where no one would find it. Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves, fled in his ship and bombed the planet behind him hoping to destroy what remained of the Light Elf army, not caring if his own perished as well.

Only two Light Elves survived.

They fled to find a place to hide, to recover their strength for what they knew would be the final battle of the War. They needed a primitive, unknown, safe planet to seek refuge. They found one.

Earth. Dominated by a bipedal, fairly intelligent species descended from tree dwellers. No one would think to look for them there. It was on this planet in the middle of nowhere that these two Elves decided to take a risk, one last desperate attempt to give them an edge against the Dark Elves. They had a baby.

That child, the last Light Elf baby to ever be born, came to be in England, Earth, in the spring of 2003. They named the child Einar, an old Norse name meaning 'the lonely warrior', for that is the future they believed their child was destined for. Little did they know how wrong they would turn out to be.

do people on this website post tierlists for fun idk does anyone care about my opinions on pokemon and miku probably not but I'm finally giving into the urge to be really annoying about music (not a music analyst) (doesn't know how to identify a lemotif) (Was in High School Marching Band)

Anyway gonna be real fuckin annoying about this one its called i talk about rankings that are mostly personal bias

DECO*27's Volt Tackle

ok so i have a confession. when this song came out, I knew it was going to end up pretty low on the list lol

Deconina (i can't. type that every time guys) is one of my favorite producers and almost every song he makes I nod my head at and go "yeah. that's a banger." But. BUT. He's started mixing his harder rock styles with his poppier hip hop styles and it comes to a head in this song. The bridge is really really distracting lol, feels like a different song and tone entirely from the kind of intense, battle like ferocity of the main part to a cutesy pop chant... It has a purpose, I'm sure, but there's something too dissonant about it for me to like.

The like, rest of the song is Deconina at his Deconina-est, I love the cute take on love (as he always does) with a pokemon flavoring... The visuals are also quite cute and fitting. It's really solid, but that one point holds it back from Funky Fresh, which is my baseline Very Solid.

Electrical Forecast by inabakumori

The second song, by a producer I don't follow nearly as closely as Deco. Uhh I did listen to lagtrain as homework before this and yes it bangs. It's always nice to see people using people other than Miku and Kaai Yuki actually has a real solid appeal to me.

This is a song that slaps. It bangs, even. I don't know enough about inabakumori to comment on its relevance to their personal stylings or themes but we were still in the romance period with pokemon puns and tie ins so I was already tempted to put it higher in the list. In actuality, every song does an excellent jobs integrating game sounds and puns so no extra points are available for that stuff lol

Taking the idea of catching pokemon is always dangerous, I think, because pokemon fans aren't really here to catch things, we're mostly interested in battles and the journey with our faves, not completing the pokedex (because it's hard, and kind of chore) at least, to me. This song feels like a journey through the tall grass, scouring the lands to find pokemon... I just like the inabakumori style man. It gets points for getting on the playlist, but not really speaking to me.

Mitchie M's What Kind of Future

Silly songs.......... my weakness and Mitchie M's strength oh no.........

Yeah Mitchie M really plays to his strengths, using cute visuals and nonstop puns to ooze a charm you can only get from haplessly indulging in the most whimsical of vibes. It was also quite surprising how well their TL team did with all the puns given some of them barely work lol.

"I love them all" is the type of pokemon fan I am, so that might also help explain why two of those songs are up so high...

Pinocchio-P Kills You with The Pokemon Inside My Heart

Im a pinocchio-p fan. I don't always like everything he puts out, but when he really hits its insane how hard he does.

1) i fucking love his little pinomikus... having them all in a costume is so fucking cute they're little slit eyed freaks and by far my favorite trademark a producer's ever had lol My favorite. is lapras...

2) This isn't the first song to fuck me up by him lol 2:30 Life Remaining also damaging as hell, so it wasn't surprising to see him go for a quieter angle but man when its something you grew up with, a nostalgia you could relate to, an experience you lived, its way worse. It's such a soft song, with an upbeat backbone, I've no idea how he got the music to scream "nostalgia" so hard but the reverberating "aah"s are so cool too...

Anyway this song would be the best song if I weren't horrendously biased. It should honestly be up their with the top two but it was funnier to keep it in the crying tier.

Battle! by cosMo@Bousou-P

I honestly did not like this song all that much when it first came out, but that was almost certainly because it was right after Pinochhio-P's lol

The high concept of people in the comments talking about some sort of Miku AI champion that was tired of winning got me more into the song now that I'm not directly comparing it to a song that spoke way more to me, there's just something a little unhinged about it in the way that cosMoBousou does well with machine intelligence/the meaning of digital media.

He also plays p well into his strengths with the breakcore fast bpm lol this song screams GO GO GO! I think it makes total sense why he'd go for a battle theme, and I really like the way the pokemon sfx are incorporated into the backing... drums? Unfortunately, I like battle songs not that much, and the lyrics leave a little to be desired because the story's a bit... confusing lol Maybe it's cheap of me to prefer nostalgia baits over whatever strange original story cosMo's thought up but that's how it is.

A little evil with Kasamura Tota's I'll Fly in the Sky with You

Another producer I've not heard of before! No one talked about this song either, in my circles, I actually missed it until I came back for Giga and Jin's. I passed over it on first watch, put it on in the background and said "yeah, that's a nice soft song," thinking nothing of it. Boy was I fucking WRONG

edit (not an edit I'm writing this all in one sitting), I LIED I *have* heard this guys stuff before!! Araki covered one of his songs lol ok I'm getting the sense their skillset is Violently Sad Songs and goddamn are they good at em.

Anyway this song's MV is adorable and uses mudkips status as an adorable fave as a double shot directly to your sadglands as it tells a story of a pokemon that stays the same to continue to fly with its friend. Its fucked up, and a little evil, and totally took me by surprise because I was a fool. Little Guys Deserve Love Too is something you don't always remember as pokemon fan and it takes the implication of evolution seriously its really some pokemon Mystery Dungeon type heartstring pulling that got me good.

Musically I love the quiet backing that really lets the vocals (the story) breathe, its a musical narrative. The back and forth between Luka and Miku is done really well, plus having it based entirely around an existing pokemon song really helps it achieve its heart punching effectiveness.

Also I have a horrible bias toward piano please don't look up at the tierlist and where I placed Marasy

We couldn't draw miku at a fucked up angle this time guys: Giga's Gotchu!

lol yeah they had to sanitize this one's visuals a little bit, probably worked with a different artist than usual... It does show, a bit, in the kind of bouncy visual style Giga's used to being flatter and less 3D than usual. This leaves the music video a little lesser than the others that move... I also don't know if I've ever been a huge fan of Giga's recent animation style.

In terms of actual song: it's good! Giga puts his swing on classic pokemon motifs and it feels very him, with a nice mix of hip hop beat and electrical edge.

But uh, remember how I said before "catching pokemon is the weakest element of pokemon"? That point stands here, especially since the song itself is just simple and peppy. It's stylish as hell but doesn't give me a sense of journey or scouring like inabakumori's.

Jin's Secretly Miku the whole time: Juvenile

I'd like to say this is the first full on deadass whole animated story. I should be right. Also I don't think I've followed Jin since Kagepro lol (but I did hear Neo, and I did scream really loudly at it!)

dude the eevee is drawn so fucking cute im rhhdghh im not even a huge eevee fan (too mammal) but man when he do the lil paw to cheer up their trainer it got me. I also really like the compassion of the story, the trainers just want to support each other even though they fight... It's like, that's kind of what pokemon is, it's not necessarily about winning, even if Every Voice on the internet Ever (including myself) tells you otherwise. Turns out all you need from a friendly rival to make them better is to lose against them and not let them speak (im joking.......)

I just realized I never looked up the lyrics, actually, but I totally got the emotions through the fantastic MV and the general upswings of the music. It's a bold swing to take a trainer through their whole journey, but both songs that try this hit it justtt right, actually. Building yourself back up after a loss is like, The pokemon story, because turns out you can't win them all. Plus it takes time to focus on the mundanity of the pokemon journey, the stuff you don't really think about in game but is the meat of any fanfic... depicting hanging out w your pokemon is a huge bonus points.

The music combined with the visuals made me cry what can I say, I don't cry easily so it deserves it.

Syudou's I'm a Ghost Type

I honestly don't know a whole lot about Syudou, not to say I don't know who he is, i do, i play pjsekai, but none of his "popular" songs really captured me.

I can mostly say the same for this one lol This is the first one where I have to actually explain the Funky Fresh tier: it means they play well to their strengths but they don't have a whole lot of staying power to me. This is where my pickiness starts kicking in, they just weren't swanky enough to make the cut.

The lyrics and visuals scream joy of ghost types though, I really dig how much energy is in the song... I think it's just personal preference for electric beats that puts the song the highest in Funky Fresh.

BIPPA!! Wonderful Opportunity with Go! Bidoof Group!

Wonder Opp never fails me they got my back every time. I was hoping for something silly happy peppy fun and oh boy did i get it. A feverish dedication to a silly not strong pokemon, a basic rat you can get in any route that the pokemon company loves making fun of, BIPPA!!

All these dumb mfs so relatable to the Len that wants to evolve for utility, to the Rin that loves him as he is, to Miku who thinks all pokemon have their appeals... I've seen some people say WonderOpp's songs border on just speaking over beat, but I don't really see what's wrong with that. The comedic timing is solid (Len getting shot down is so funny) and the setup is inherently funny, a team of bullies that go after Only Bidoof. Team Rocket but Bidoof.

Joy radiates from this song and who doesn't want to hold a pokemon in front of your friends and go "Look!! this is my favorite child!!!" I think that's the real essence of pokemon. Pick your faves and then be really annoying about them. That's why this is the best one.

Huh? Muddled... (Weird title... it's sfx, really) by Kuriyama Yuri

This project got me digging around in new producers libraries, quite fun. In this one I found Jitterbug! I love a good Meiko producer... But I don't particularly like their style, sorry to say.

I do like it though! It's fun, spooky and very stylized! I love the rhythm it gets into and the expressions on the people, even if I'm not entirely sure what's going on besides some good ol fasioned spooks. I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do, which is make a spooky ghost house experience song. Just doesn't appeal to me enough to rank it higher.

Orangestar's Encounter

Look. This is pure bias. But I also think it's good!

I've gone on record (no record. just talking to friends lmao) saying Orangestar's music feels like running alongside a ocean during a sunshower. All their music is kind of same-y but by god does it hit that niche so good for me, using vocaloids to go way above what any human would sound good. In this song the synthwave really elevates it to something I'd recommend a non-Orangestar fan, it really carries you up, gives the song a rising energy... just like Lugia.

Breath is a key of Orangestar's songs, besides being very high, there's a lot of running vocals and held notes, meaning singing them is again, very difficult (if you're trying to copy miku) and I think the breathlessness of the vocals and synth really works with the concept of a legendary encounter. It's always so cool when you finally run into the thing on the box... and in the surrounding media, everyone always oohs and aahs. The lyrics support this, but I'm not very good at reading, so I actually just skim them to make sure they aren't total nonsense lol

Eon Ticket by Marasy

I saw somewhere an author's comment about this song, something to the effect of "I always chased Latios and Latias"... So this is just a song about your faves, just like pokemon should be. It also has Kaito, which is *my* crypton bias.

Uhh I'm always back and forth on Marasy songs, I love him as a pianist, but his compositions don't always speak to me working with the others on em. But? I think this one hits nicely. It's a little toothless still, not as emotionally impactful as those on the top, won't make me scream in excitement but I do think this is one of my favorites in a while.

Kaito and Miku... it's always nice to have duets in this Miku focused project lol. I think the Eon ticket, Latios and Latias in particular was a good pairing for Marasy's flighty fluttering piano trills and runs, they're the kind of pokemon that dash around the skies like the music does. Part of what makes me rank composers higher in these miku songs is whether they play to their strengths or not, because you're already adding the twist of subject matter, and I think this does. I also think the framing device of the newscasters is cute

Party Rock Eternity by Hachioji-P

Ahh Hachioji, another name I know and don't really listen to on purpose... Rad Dogs goes insane though an all time fave (but I say that about half the VBS commissioned songs). Maybe that's why I biased it higher, because it's a style of music I really like. A lot of bias is probably involved in this lol (poison type fan)

I like the perspective of a rocket grunt a lot, leans extremely well into the harder rock of Hachioji's natural lean, but the lyrics don't really tell us much, it doesn't quite lean hard enough into character for me to give it a funky pass... plus I find it's missing a POP that makes it appealing. It's extremely pleasant, but I can't give it a pass.

Iyowa's Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces

Hmm, I think the only producer I know truly nothing about, didn't even really recognize a song on their page. Doesn't matter since this song's extremely cute and appealing on its own.

The button mashing making up the backing track I almost didn't like but it totally grew on me, it gives the song more life. Visually the MV compliments the cutesy subject and the wonder of a child's first pokemon. But... it's just pleasant. It suffers the same fate as Party Rock Eternity before it, there's just nothing pushing it beyond musically, likely in part because I'm not as familiar with the composer. I like songs that go somewhere, and this one stays in the same place, which doesn't make it bad, it just makes it less interesting to me.

Esper Esper, Psychic Psychic! by NayutalieN

I don't listen to a whole lot of NayutalieN's stuff outside the Rhythm Game Staples (most of which I like, at least passively), but it's enough that I know generally what I'm getting.

Musically this song doesn't stand out to me all that much, I like the rising tones during the chorus, but it actually doesn't use as many of the kind of flourishes on the top of vocals I really like about Nayutalie's tuning. The sfx in blend with the background are also really fun but for me, theming tops out anything.

When I went into the song, I wanted a cute silly fun song about psychic type pokemon that LOVED psychic types. I wanted to see them clap. And they did! There's just so many psychic types doing the classic flip back and forth dance, and isn't that, really, what makes a NayutalieN song?

Kairiki Bear's Melomeloid

So Kairiki Bear I actually spent like, a day lying in bed listening to their entire lineup on their channel lol I wanted to determine whether I liked them as a producer or if I just really liked Bug. Turned out I just really liked Bug (and venom). That's to say, I wasn't expecting something standout in this song.

I was not disappointed, but I wasn't blown away either. That's ok, I think the most important part of Kairiki Bear songs are their texture, the rhythm of the vocals mixed with the instrument. I like Bug because of its punchiness, its extremely harsh tones, and Melomeloid's are a bit softer. It's good for a song about fairy types, but it doesn't make up that loss in musicality through the melody, which makes it average to me. But! I think it really hits where fairy types lie, a cutesy "I love you" mixed with the signature sharp, kind of off tune vocals with a harsh, present beat... It screams "cute but dangerous."

A Glorious Day for Miku Yuri by EVE (it's Glorious Day)

wh what if u were a dragon type trainer and and I was a fairy type trainer and uh uh hhhhh and we were rivals............

Um ok, I just have to say, before I talk about Eve or whatever. The fact that they animate Every Miku in Voltage's art run and place them in this mikuverse where they all fight together is like, dude talk about an excellent finale. Deadass that touch alone put this to its ranking by itself.

That's not to say the music's not pulling its weight. It's Eve, and though I think is one of his weaker compositions, not being able to play into his more off beat rhythms (and having to use miku) it's still got all the bones of an extremely solid hype journey song. But to be honest, I think the music is the weakest part of Glorious Day, even if its flow is perfect for the story they're telling.

But the story..... God I do love a fully animated MV, there's just so much they put in it to make a pokemon fan happy, from the sakuga of the battle and the possible red cameo. Plus YURI!!! I love miku miku relationships I just think this one has the most potential to live in my brain rent free, so it goes up a tier. As a pokemon fan, this one's got the most for me, even if as a vocaloid fan, I wish Eve would just sing all his songs forever lol

Idk if this has been said already, but either one of them dying in fic would be so compelling.

If Olivia dies, let’s say right as this season picks up, we have Elliot and Noah leaning on each other and working through the grief (as you mentioned). But we still see the struggle and adjustment that both Elliot and Noah go through for a while. Even butting heads with each other.

We also have the dynamic of the other stabler children bringing Noah into the fold of siblings and giving him that support system. 

IMO, yes, Elliot might be a sort of catatonic at first in a way that he wasn’t when Kathy died and for LONGER, but he can’t go off on a rampage like he did when Kathy died either. He has a preteen in his house now. He’s got middle school and dance recitals and he wants to make Noah’s life as close to normal is possible, even though everything has changed. Thats not to say that him going off half cocked all the time was right when he did it with Eli, but he knows he can’t do that again to any of his kids, including Noah.

He never forgives himself. Not only did he leave for 10 years, but spent the time they were together, either under cover, covered in grief, or just being an idiot. 😂😂  because it is only after she has passed that he begins to learn about all that he missed. He will never get to talk to her about Noah’s adoption and baptism, Lewis,  the men in her life, her climb up the ladder, etc. she will never know that he saw her everywhere he went, and how there was never a day that way, but he didn’t think about her.

There’s lots of therapy and anger and rebuking of his God. Questioning why it happened to her and where was her team during this? He has it out with Fin a lot. And his kids know that he’s not OK. So while they never ask if he is, they constantly worry.

He talks to her every day. When no one is around. And tells her all about the day. Everything from the mundane to the extraordinary because he believes that she is listening and that she is with them. he doesn’t even try to date because he knows that that is never going to happen. so instead he slows down, focuses on the kids and the grandkids and making sure that Noah grows up knowing who his mother was.

ON THE SURFACE being the key part of that question.

Elliot was gone for 10 years. And like I said, in my last post in the time he has been back, there has not been a ton of progress in their friendship or any sort of romantic relationship. He’s been undercover, grieving, etc..

Olivia would be more inclined to be battling her own internal demons I believe. When Elliot was aWay, although it was the most difficult thing she’s ever done, she learned to live without Elliot. She knew he was alive somewhere.

She adopted, Noah, climbed to the ranks, and built a found family. All the while, and knowing Elliot was always out there somewhere and I think that made it a SMIDGEN bit more bearable.

But now he’s not out there.

The possibilities are gone. Friendship. Romance. All buried 6 feet under with everything she never told him, but always wanted to. She’ll have to grapple with regret. She couldn’t or wouldn’t let him in on any level even though she wanted to and now it’s too late. (Putting aside whether he deserved it or not)

She’ll send Noah away to a dance intensive or to his brothers upstate or to Amanda’s so that she can fall apart in private. Later she’ll maintain a brave face that she is fine. meanwhile, the inner storm that is brewing it’s becoming something she can’t control.

Her squad worries but they can’t ask. Fin tries, Amanda tries, Cragen tries, but she’s FINE. It’s finally Cassidy that gets through to her. Bc he KNOWS how much she loved Elliot. And he becomes her person to lean on. are they in a relationship? Who knows. Maybe one day they’ll try again? probably not. But for now, she likes that he seems to have matured, if only a little, and is willing to just sit there. Even if it means not talking.

As with Elliot, there is lots of therapy and anger, but Noah is growing up. He’ll be in high school soon and possibly college or a dance career after that. She knows that retirement is on the horizon, either voluntarily or not. And without work to occupy her brain, she knows her thoughts will, consume her.

She eventually decides to reach out to Elliott’s kids who are now parentless. And is genuinely surprised they have seamless they accept her into the fold. although adults themselves, they’re finding it difficult to go through life without their mother and father. They crave and need guidance and help.

Maureen feels overwhelmed with matriarchy being thrust upon her and custody of Eli, who has not really known peace since he left Italy.  Kathleen is constantly trying to run around and “fix” things.  Liz and Dickie, ever the twins, become even more sullen and withdrawn, respectively. And Eli, although a few years away from being legal, resents and Butthead’s with his siblings, who, realistically, he barely knows.

Of course, liv fixes all of this. And in essence becomes sort of that cool Aunt to the kids. She is the one they call with good news or for advice. She knows she can’t replace their mother, but she is gigi to the grandkids, none the less. They accept Noah as a younger sibling. And while she is grateful for her found family of Fin and Amanda, etc. only the Stabler Children know what it is like to live without Elliot.

They tell stories of Kathy and Elliot at holidays and on their birthdays. And Olivia lets them know about a side of their dad, but they didn’t often get to see. And somewhere along the way, she began to heal.

Ok. So I know these were lengthy posts, but I do think that both Alia and Olivia are strong characters. And even with one of them, gone while devastating, they both know they still have to continue on living. And for fic purposes Noah always ends up with five older siblings that protect him at all costs

Chapter 14

Going to the human world

...Oddly appropriate. The future isn’t the human world by any means, but you did just get transported somewhere and you did used to be human 🤔

Anyway god this one had so many frames to work through as Chapter 14 starts with “you wake up in a jail cell” and ends with “Spiritomb boss battle”, and everything in-between includes an attempted execution, a daring escape, a lot of arguing, crawling through three dungeons, trying to use the Dimensional Scream, and consoling your partner on the hill. Uh, spoilers?

Honestly it was just kind of nice that Link wasn’t entirely alone. I mean, I know Midna was there the whole time, but I am always for giving Link a big group of friends (see my love for hyrule warriors, age of calamity, and LU LMAO)

TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG

Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP

The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is

Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see

Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots

kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)

BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon) 

but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town

Love how chill it is and how it’s kind of separate from Hyrule proper

They really do seem to be doing their own thing apart from the rest of Hyrule

Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)

Hyrule field theme SLAPS.

Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)

So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)

Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)

I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA

Orchestra piece #1 and #2 HOLY SHIT???????????????? 

Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.

the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)

TP STAFF ROLL??? 

VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??

Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.

and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.

hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE

I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.

They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)

childe loves watching you brew potions, it’s probably one of his favorite ways to relax is just to lay around and watch you tinker with glass bottles and pretty flowers

he’s very attentive to if you need certain ingredients such as violet grass or naku weeds and whenever he’s traveling he’ll pick some stuff up for you

similarly to xiao in the last post he likes when you heal with your magic but NEVER on other people, he likes to be special

he comes home often times with scratches and cuts from battles and he insists that despite how it could be healed with a bandaid or normal medical supplies that you fix it up with your witchcraft which you can never say no to because of the glint in his eye when he asks

when it comes to your familiar he loves the little thing, i’ve mentioned that he sees it as your guys’ child and when i say he sees it as part of the family that means he includes it in family like activities as well

don’t be surprised if you come home to childe having made dinner for 3, 2 plates are with normal food and another plate for your familiar T-T

he also “takes parental control” of it sometimes meaning he’ll hang out with your familiar and just him every once and a while, he’ll sometimes even take it with him to work and let it rest on his shoulder as he sorts through paperwork and files

now we all know that childe can be a bit mischievous but what he never saw coming was when the mischief in your smile when you asked him to drink something you made for him

forgetting about the whole “i’m a witch thing” he drank the whole glass and was beaming over how good it tasted, that is until the next morning when he woke up and his hair was bright purple…

“(Y/N)!!!” he yelled from the bathroom and his voice cracked put of confusion

meanwhile you sat on the living room couch absolutely dying of laughter to which (no pun intended) increased tenfold when childe came sauntering in looking like he had just seen a ghost

this guy is kinda stupid if i’m honest, he has no idea how it works but he finds it very useful

but then he starts treating it like you’re an archon or something and starts asking you to do impossible things like make shit out of thin air lmao

you have to explain to him that while your magic is special and not that of a vision users; it’s also not that or an archons and like all mystical abilities it too has its limits

he doesn’t allow you on the battle field, ever. his word is final, sure you had fought before dating him but once you were his he wouldn’t ever let you get hurt by anyone especially if it had to do with dealings of the fatui

he’d let you help out with his job such as healing and other small things but he would never let you into a fight whether or not you could use your magic to hold your own

he’d do his best to keep you away from the fatui, your magic could be useful to him but he wouldn’t allow others to use it. you were his and his alone.

if your magic would be useful to the tsaritsa he wouldn’t let you anywhere near her ever, he knew how dangerous not only his job was but the people he worked with. he was well aware that if you were ever found out you’d likely be in a position with a massive target on your back

of course he wouldn’t ever let you know of this, you’d be blissfully ignorant as he shadowed you and made sure you’re magic wasn’t an open invitation for the fatui

he didn’t mind your familiar but it wasn’t something he was often taking care of, to him it was like a pet which he never had the time to watch or show affection to

if something ever happened to your familiar though he would be really upset, not only because he did like it (though he would never admit it) but also because he knew it would be hard for you and whoever hurt your familiar would regret it

never and i mean never play pranks on him with your magic, the one time you did and made his hat disappear he threw a fit like an absolute toddler

he was so mad at you that he didn’t speak to you for 3 whole days and would ignore you everytime you tried to apologize

he’d end up forgiving you of course but he’d give you a stern talk about how it was to never happen again

xiao:

xiao is honestly hard to write for, i can’t see him having many opinions on this kind of thing or caring too much

it’s not that he doesn’t care he just doesn’t have an innate interest in this field

if there is one thing that interests him though it’s how your magic compares to that of the archons, vision holders, and yakshas

your magic was unique and something that the other people of teyvat weren’t familiar with nor capable of and this definitely intrigued xiao

he likes to see how you can use your magic in ways that the archons may not and wants to know what the limits of your abilities are

he secretly loves your familiar but would rather drop dead than ever admit it, he spends time with it while your asleep or while you’re away quite often and likes to cuddle with it

when you’re not around xiao sleeps with your familiar as he views it not only as a pet but also as another piece of you and so it helps to keep him calm and stop him from having nightmares :(

however because of this feeling that your familiar is a part of you this means that if anything happened to it he’d be furious, he’d get extremely overprotective and wouldn’t hesitate to destroy anyone who dare hurt it

he also would take care of your familiar if anything were to ever happen to you, he’d be the prime care taker and would sometimes have ganyu or zhongli babysit it (i’m crying this is so cute)

if you were to ever prank xiao with your magic he’d just get confused and have this annoyed look at his face but then he’d very surprisingly start laughing

while it wasn’t bursting out into laughter to the point in which your stomach hurts you could tell that he was smiling and he let out small chuckles at your prank

this would encourage your pranking and mischievous behavior to which xiao would continue to actually enjoy

eventually he’d get used to it and find it an endearing trait of yours, he’d simply smile and laugh a bit when thinking of your pranks or joining in on them every one and a while

diluc

first things first diluc would be in a constant state of worry over your well being, considering what happened to his father he would be very cautious about how your magic works and whether or not it’s dangerous to you

something he finds very interesting about your magic though is your ability to use it in ordinary life. sure it’s cool in combat and on the battle field but the thing he enjoys most about it is how versatile it is to you in mundane life

he also love your familiar, to him the little sprite is almost like a seelie but more useful

he doesn’t interact with it or take care of it a whole lot but he likes to quietly watch the bond between you and your familiar, it gives him a sense of calmness and almost makes him envious

he’d be interesting in how your magic would help the knights of favonious and if it would make them any more efficient

would secretly try to get you to get you to talk to jean about being a captain in the knights and helping the people of mondstadt in a safe way while also being useful to their cause

one time you and kaeya pulled a trick of diluc where you made kaeya look exactly like diluc for a day except it didn’t turn out how you expected

you were thinking that diluc wouldn’t be pleased and would just brush it off but shockingly he screamed in the highest voice you’ve ever heard from him when he came face to face with himself

he then became very intrigued and wanted to learn about the science behind your magic and more specifically how the twin trick worked

so what you expected to be a fun little prank to annoy your boyfriend became a lesson on your magic, though not that you minded

what you didn’t notice was diluc’s subtle smile as he watched your eyes sparkle as you talked about something like magic which was so important to you

Okay, so I have several things, but I’ll just send in multiple asks. First, what are your thoughts on Percy’s Styx fight with Hades? He not only annihilated the army, but knocked Hades out of the chariot and pinned him down, scaring one of the Big Three. He also controlled the Styx when he yelled out and it exploded

that’s actually one of my favorite moments in tlo ok fine idk which one’s my favorite moment but i love that one. 

and this edges more into the topic of how the curse of achilles affected him. i think with this demonstration of power after his bath in the river styx (percy controlling the styx itself when just a moment before he couldn’t even breathe in said river???omg??) explains a lot about why rick took away the curse in the son of neptune. 

like, he easily defeated that entire army of undead soldiers in SECONDS and then he fucking. comes for hades. it makes sense, i suppose, for rick to want to take that advantage away if it meant that percy would be this powerful. but what he forgot in his moment of stupidity is that percy’s also a hundred times more vulnerable! I mean!! i love the contrast between this scene, where bullets ricochet off his body, where swords break in contact with his skin, where no one can stop him and his connection to the ocean grows tenfold...and then have him absolutely come undone at the sight of sally and paul asleep in their car in the middle of the invasion of manhattan. he is so upset, in fact, that pandora’s pithos appears in the backseat (i believe?), because he loses hope quicker than a lightning strike, quicker than he would’ve, had he not been under the curse’s influence. there’s also the williamsburg bridge scene, which is *chef’s kiss,* in which he starts fucking laughing as he kills the monsters (the same way he did in the underworld!!!) and he just. becomes a one man army all over again. he is vicious and unmerciful as he takes on the minotaur and other creatures and even demigods. but...that moment of utmost control in the battle ends the instant he hears annabeth’s scream, when he sees that she’d just gotten stabbed and likely saved his life because of it.

the point is that everyone, even the writer himself (lmao) got scared of what percy was capable of. literally rick and the gods where like, “this is too much.” and the topic of percy getting rid of the curse is meant for another post, but what’s actually interesting in the pjo universe are the—you guessed it—immortals. because i’ve mentioned this before, but percy was practically a god at this point. he scared the shit out of hades—as well as nico. he is invincible, and all he needs is the elimination of that weak spot at the small of his back to fully become a god.

here’s the thing, though...that weak spot is crucial as well as deadly. having that vulnerability not only tethers his soul to his mortality, but it also gives him plenty of freedoms.

gods are limited to doing whatever they want by the so called “ancient rules.” they can’t interfere in many things as well as can’t go into another god’s domain without permission. they can’t steal directly from other gods, can’t interact too much with mortals...but demigods can. they are the connection to the mortal and immortal world. technically, they can do whatever the hell they want. so the concern here is that percy can do whatever the hell he wants, is waaay too connected to the ocean for their liking, and the worst part of all this is that he is nearly a god himself. his powers grew drastically with his bath in the styx, and the gods are terrified. he is one of them, but at the same time, he isn’t. kronos realized this when he fought percy at the williamsburg bridge. he said something to percy along the lines of “you should’ve been my host,” when he noted how strong percy was in comparison to luke.

now to the topic of the gods: all they need to do to keep percy in line is to know his weak spot. the problem is that...they don’t. so what zeus does, at the end of the titan war, is offer percy immortality. that’s their last desperate measure to control this wild card that’s going rampant in both worlds, where there’s countless possibilities for said wild card to overpower the olympians since he’s still a hero. they can’t risk an uprising happening, can’t risk percy getting too comfortable with his immortal side—the side of the ocean. so their logic is to make him a god and make him follow their rules.

obviously he doesn’t accept the “gift”, so the discomfort is still there. the gods hold their breath, now that percy is more dangerous than ever before. i guess it’s calming to them that between tlo and hoo, percy has control over his life. that his loved ones are safe. because when that’s not the case, well...

imagine the possibilities of percy struggling to connect with his mortality during hoo, which was the moment he truly began to see how the gods don’t change. that maybe, luke was right. imagine him coming after the olypmians like he did with hades (!!!!) like, i have little doubt that he’s capable of this still even without the curse, but the curse adds an edge to him that we don’t see in any of the books. every weakness within him arises tenfold, as well as every strength. i can only wonder how much easier it would be for percy to lose it, for him to battle with his fatal flaw, and how every link, every control he has over water, over storms, over earthquakes—could snap like the thinnest of threds just by a stab in the back.

SPIDERMAN NO WAY HOME SPOILERS

Here’s some of my thoughts about the movie:

First of all, I LOVED IT!!! If you’re scared of watching it because you’re not sure if it’ll do justice, just know that IT WAS AMAZING!!!

Ok now definitely spoilers.

Honestly this might’ve been all in my head, but I kinda felt like Andrew’s Peter was treated like the lesser Spiderman? Maybe that was just him being unsure of himself and still recovering from Gwen. He was still super cool though.

I feel like Tom’s Peter REALLY needed this movie. A lot of the criticism about Tom’s Peter is that he was best friends with a billionaire, so he got an easy start. In this movie, he loses his aunt, he’s mentored by himselves that have been through the same thing as him, he battled classic Spiderman villains that end up helping the other two Spidermen learn, but the thing that I feel shows his growth the MOST is at the end of the movie when you can see a sewing machine that shows that Peter made his own suit from hand. That was something a lot of people said made a Spiderman, and now Tom’s Peter has done it. He’s living on his own and he has no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE to be with him through it. So, Tom Peter haters, what do you have to say now?

I wonder how in the future Tobey’s and Andrew’s worlds have gotten. Both Peters have shown growth, but since Tom mentioned that technology there is more improved, I wouldn’t think that they would be past 2020.

This could also be because Stark wasn’t a thing in the other universes, which leads me to my next point.

Stark Industries and the Avengers don’t exist in the other Spidermen’s universes, and Oscorp doesn’t exist in Tom’s universe.

Which begs the question that we’ve never asked because we thought it was unnecessary: how did Tom Peter get his spider powers? Was it like Miles Morales in the spiderverse movie? A spider from another dimension? First of all, I sure HOPE not. I’d hope it’s something more creative. If Oscorp doesn’t exist, WHERE WOULD THE SPIDER COME FROM??? I don’t think Stark Industries delves into biotechnology, though idk.

Another thing, Uncle Ben is never really mentioned, so we just assumed he died and gave Peter the message like all the other spidermen. But that was Aunt May, in the third movie no less which is very interesting. So that begs another question, did Uncle Ben die or did he and Aunt May just get divorced? Or did Aunt May ever get married at all? (There might be signs to this in the first movie idk I can’t remember rn)

I wish Doc Ock got more character participation. He does a little, but not as much as I wished from his character.

Also, HOW. DARE. YOU. SPIDERMAN MOVIE. FOR MAKING ME SYMPATHIZE FOR NORMAN OSBORN. NORMAN OSBORN OF ALL PEOPLE.

I guess out of all the versions of Norman Osborn, Tobey Maguire Norman Osborn probably had the best intentions and best heart. HOWEVER, most versions of Norman Osborn are really cruel men. He’s a businessman after all. And I dislike him very very much. Even without the serum, Norman was never a good father and did sketchy things all the time.

I didn’t like how Norman didn’t say anything at the end of the movie when he was cured. We don’t know what exactly is going on in his head and it’s kinda just like??? You ok bud???

Poor Tobey Peter too, just, yknow, casually stabbed. Going back home casually stabbed.

Also Tom Peter didn’t tell the other Peters that people in their universe were gonna forget about them too? Like what about MJ in the other universe?

THE MOVIE WAS SO GREAT, BUT OFC IT LEFT ME WANTING MORE. I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE OTHER TWO GET BACK HOME. DO MJ AND TOBEY PETER FINALLY GET MARRIED?? DOES ANDREW’S TOM GET THE BOYFRIEND HE DESERVES??? WHAT ABOUT TASM HARRY???

Also I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the scene where Ned was like, “I won’t betray you and try to kill you,” and what made it funnier was Tobey and Andrew just like, “MAN LEMME GIVE YOU A FOST BUMP, A HANDSHAKE, A HUG, SOMETHING, CAUSE YOU THE BOMB MAN.”

My favorite scene was Andrew saving MJ though. BEST SCENE HANDS DOWN. I don’t feel like I even have to explain in words how many strong emotions this gives off. It was PERFECT AND WELL DESERVED.

I was smiling like a goof the whole movie I loved it so much.

I can’t even use the nostalgia thing for my explanation. I’ve only been loving spiderman since like 2019, and I didn’t watch the live action movies until 2020.

I still loved it so much. It was the best birthday present I could’ve asked for.

I think my favorite character was Andrew’s Peter. Idk, I never really had a favorite spiderman out of the three, but in this movie, Andrew’s really stuck out to me.

Adrien and Lila mirror meta

ok fine 

Alright, let’s do this. Let’s talk about Adrien and Lila’s weird as fuck chess game that was Season 3. 

With Lila and Adrien mirroring each other, Season 3′s arc with Lila goes from “Adrien learning how dangerous Lila is” to “Adrien just not being threatened by her and he and Lila are just playing the weirdest game of chess ever, and Lila got outsmarted.”

Chameleon. Something’s different from the last time they’ve interacted back in Volpina. Now he can tell when she’s lying to him, and she knows that he knows as well because he flat out tells her as much. At this point, he knows that making giant angry call out scenes about her lying will make her upset and get her akumatized. So what does he do? He tries being nice about it. He gives her an out with no consequences and the only condition was “please don’t lie to me,” and what does she do? Gets akumatized and goes after him in particular. 

He learned three things by the end of this episode from all of this. He learned that direct confrontation doesn’t work with her at all. he learned that she lied to Ladybug earlier that episode when she said that she wouldn’t lie and pretend to be someone she isn’t to get people to like her. He gives the first part of this to Marinette to help her, she takes the advice and what happens? Lila gets caught in one of her lies, her hold on Marinette was shaken, and uh... this meme:

The third thing he learned was that she will play into her own self destruction if she keeps this up, which is something he warned her about earlier in the episode but actually saw in the classroom scene at the end. 

With Lila and Adrien being mirrors this episode becomes less about Marinette battling against Lila while the whole class is blind to what’s happening, and it turns more into the set up of these two setting up their pieces up. Lila chooses to keep lying, and for the first time it blows up in her face while Adrien chooses the truth, stands by Marinette, and gets his seat next to Nino in class back. This is the point where they’ve started the game, but neither of them know how it’ll go. At this point, Lila doesn’t know that he’s playing at all, and Adrien doesn’t know how far she’s willing to go yet, but that changes in... 

Oni-chan. I don’t have nearly as much to say about this episode as I did with Chameleon (that’s a lie). 

We start this episode with Lila for once, we see that she’s alone in the morning and her mother won’t be home until late while her mother’s voicemail tells her everything she needs while she’s gone. This is different than usual because normally when we see a kid being alone while their parent more accurately their parent’s mouth piece to them is relaying information about their day in the beginning of episodes, it’s Adrien. And then, it only makes sense that when Nino sees her down he asks her what’s up because he’s seen this before, and giving Adrien someone to talk to helped him so there isn’t a reason for him to think it wouldn’t work with her. But, Lila already chose her course back in Chameleon. She chose to lie, and it’s cemented here when she lies to Nino instead of opening up about it. 

Moving on, Adrien at this point hasn’t realized how far she’s willing to go to get what she wants, and still hasn’t by the time she lies herself into the hell house by potentially putting him in a situation where he’ll get scolded by his father and Nathalie. He lets it go (for now), but keeps in mind that Nathalie and Gorilla got in trouble because of it. He’s going to use that later.

Now we’re getting to Kagami’s akumatization, and what Adrien says to her when she shows up at his window. With mirrors in mind, Adrien’s excuses for what she does “she’s not dangerous she just craves attention” and “Maybe she’s just looking to be less lonely” before with Plagg aren’t just excuses anymore, they also serve as an view of how he genuinely views the situation with her. That’s why it’s important that he NEVER retracts those statements even after he has a better understanding of her. Suddenly it goes from “Adrien being naive and oblivious to the damage she’s doing” to “He's figured it out and he still genuinely does not view her as a threat despite everything she’s done up to this point” by the end of the episode.

From his perspective, he’s not dealing with anyone that he hasn’t dealt with before, and that makes sense. He was raised with Felix and Chloe, and his father is Garbage Agreste, and that man eats gaslighting for breakfast. Why would a more obvious and less experienced version of him be a threat to his son?

We end this episode with Adrien scolding her at Cat Noir, and warning her as Adrien not to mess with people he cares about, and it’s a warning that Lila blatantly ignores and doesn’t take seriously. She messes with Chloe, which Adrien never finds out about and then...

We get to Ladybug (the episode).  

Putting the episode right up next to Chameleon, you can really see how they match up and how very different the circumstances are. Ladybug is the episode we find out why he doesn’t consider her dangerous. We go from Adrien having a vague understanding of how she operates and trying to keep others from her crossfire to him actively knowing what she’s doing and figuring out how to successfully work around it. 

Like, really think about the fact that she is so not a threat that he confidently tells Plagg that he’ll help Marinette later meaning he already knows what he’s going to do at this point, it’s only a matter of when. They’ve been playing the game this whole time, and at this point Lila still doesn’t know he’s playing it. She still thinks she’s in control, and hasn’t realized that she made a mistake. She still doesn’t realize that he isn’t a pawn in her game, but is actually the person she’s been playing against this whole time, and Adrien uses that to figuratively back her in a corner by the end of the episode.

I’ve made SO many posts about Adrien’s threat at this point that I’m just gonna summarize it if you don’t mind. 

Adrien threatening Lila was just as much a surprise to Lila as it was to a lot of the people seeing this episode for the first time, and the same thing applies in both cases: it shouldn’t have been. Ladybug (the episode) is Lila realizing that he understands how she works and understands how to manipulate that if she steps out of line again. The episode is her realizing she has to be more careful if she doesn’t want Angrien over here ruining everything because his word has more weight than hers, and it always will, and now she has to consider that he will use it against her if she fucks up. She was once again the player of her own self destruction from keeping up on her path of lies and Adrien once again watches it happen just like in Chameleon but this time he’s actively making sure it happens instead of just watching it from the back of the room.

Anyway, idk how to end this, but uh... yeah. That’s all I’ve got.

I fixed supergirl s6. here's how

ok! first of all disclaimer that I really enjoyed s6, but I've been thinking about this recently and I have some conclusions.

basically: I think supergirl s6b should have scrapped the power theme and instead been about reconciling different parts of one's identity.

all my thoughts under the cut.

overall for each character:

for kara, this means deciding to integrate her human and alien sides permanently. they do this at the end, but it's complicated and mostly overshadowed by the power stuff.

for lena, this means letting go of both sides of her family and becoming her own person. tbh this one was done the best individually in the season. but if the other characters were also going through something similar it wouldn't have felt so much like lena was being shoved off to the side.

for alex, this means learning how to be both a mom and a superhero and becoming more confident in her ability to have it all. remember in s3 and s4 when she was worried about that? yeah...

for kelly, this means realizing (and teaching the others) that superheroes have to focus on everyday systemic problems as well as big superhero stuff. once again, they did this in s4 then kinda abandoned it smh

j'onn can chill he's ok

and brainy and nia had their own arcs that worked really well, so I wouldn't change those.

how I would change the plot:

first of all, there are way too many totems. get rid of all of the totems except the courage totem, the hope totem, and the love totem. now we can proceed.

kara's courage gauntlet is 1x09 blood bonds, when cat becomes convinced she's supergirl. she initially (based on the stress she's been under this season) thinks she lacked courage by trying to go back and forth. she tries to abandon supergirl. she tries to abandon kara. she fails both times.

kara's hope gauntlet is to inspire a hope that burns brighter than the sun. this is an idea I had during the episode and I was sad it didn't happen so here it is now lol. alex is trying to teach esme how to control her powers, but the way she's doing it just reinforces that esme shouldn't use her powers and no one will ever accept her. kara shows her that her powers are nothing to be afraid of (thus bringing about a realization for herself as well). then something blocks out the sun. kara loses her powers. but since esme's powers aren't technically powered by the yellow sun, esme still retains kara's powers and is able to use them to help. hope that burns brighter than the sun. boom.

the love gauntlet goes to alex. pretty simple. partly based on the events of the hope gauntlet, alex is worried she won't be able to show esme the love she deserves. she realizes that she can. potentially with a conversation with lena where lena's like sure eliza had flaws but you grew up surrounded by love and that's the most important thing.

this whole time, nxyly becomes more and more evil and bent on revenge. she refuses to be that scared princess who was exiled by her father. all she cares about is power.

the super friends acquire all three totems (with the courage gauntlet still not passed), and nxyly kidnaps esme to ransom her for the totems. the super friends must assemble the allstone to fight her. at this point they are a cohesive unit, none of this backstabbing and arguing. in a last-ditch effort, kara tries the courage gauntlet again. this time, she just tells cat everything she's thinking (like nxyly did when she passed): she is supergirl, but she loves her job and she needs both in her life. cat understands. kara has performed admirably.

plot stuff, idk... the big battle was fun... but eventually, it's lena and nxyly facing off. and lena's like, I get it. I went down the same dark path as you for the same reasons. but you are not beholden to your family... the greatest triumph is being enough for yourself and letting them go. then nxyly is like damn u right and surrenders. the end.

might do a post about how supercorp could have happened, keep an eye out for that. but for now that's it! lmk what you think! but this is a tv show about superheroes so be chill abt it

S2 WISHFUL THINKING

hey hi hello! i haven’t really been active on tumblr but i wanted to get back into the swing of being active and posting often. so.

i decided i will take note of some of my predictions, hopes, wishes etc. for Season 2 of Rainbow High!

so i kinda wanna just cover the things we canonically have seen aka specific events and drama that has gotten introduced

- The New Roommates / Series 3 Girls

i feel like we will definitely see more of them within the coming episodes. rainbow high literally advertised the new teams as like… i think the second or third teaser for the new season

it’s interesting to me because. this makes me think of What The Runway Project is? what could it possibly be? i believe i made a post about this in the past but the main theory (and theory i believe the most in) would be a Stage Production of sorts. i mean… it makes sense!

the twins are both Performing Arts focus and are definitely the antags this season. so why wouldn’t they cause trouble in regard to a stage play? plus, bella is back. she’s literally a set designer! we have never seen her do any set designing (other than making a sketch) so it would be fun to see that! if river were to get more focus this season, he would definitely have an outlet to channel his Performing Arts creativity! plus… Daria is a song writer so like. imagine if we were to get music out of that? please. the possibilities are endless.

im also eager to see the series 3 girls dynamics. like are the rest of the girls (gabriella, georgia, emmy and daphne) all roomed together? do they get along? will they all be just as dramatic as stella, sheryl and daria’s dynamic?

but anyway. whatever the drama and the semester project is, the new teammates definitely seem to be playing a crucial role in this season.

- The Twins

i’m actually really eager to see more of them. i feel like not enough people are talking about them? season 2 is actually really interesting so far…. maybe more so than season 1… and i feel like we are going to have to thank the twins for that at some point lol

like. idek what they’re planning on doing but. i’m excited to see what it is! they’ll probably be involved in the semester project or at least causing problems to all of the roommates and teams. they’ll definitely have something going on with bella. and it seems that they have a good bond with karma (after the KWK we got). so maybe they’ll have input in any potential drama with Karma. which leads me to

- Karma VS. Violet

so. this drama has been teased at for like. ever. for what feels like forever.

this moment in Karma’s bio PLUS the commentary about violet from her and the twins in the recent KWK episode. but anyway. i’m actually super interested in whatever this drama could be??? like. why is karma watching.

we know violet adores karma, she really wants to have her in the vi life. so i’m sure she basically looks up to her! but like. will karma actually genuinely be nice with violet? keep a distance? make remarks like she did in her recent vlog? i don’t know. idk what to expect. of course it’ll have to do with vlogging or something.

- Bella

ok so there is a few things to note with bella. i’m still interested in if bella will accept to do an interview with Karma for her vlog? if so, i wonder how that would go. and i wonder how violet would feel about it. like the very last time bella was featured in vi’s vlog was on a bad note (even though they made up) but like. idk AAA

also i’m wondering how bella is gonna handle being back to rainbow high. because so far it seems she’s having trouble fitting in. will the key to her fitting in be Jade? will Jade help her figure everything out? or would it be someone else?

as much as i’d love Jade to be the reason Bella starts to feel more at home, i also love the other idea of Amaya being the reason bella feels comfortable again. Amaya was once the new girl (and of course in an awkward position because she was essentially a replacement for bella’s spot in the runway group) but. she didn’t fit in. she had to find her place at rainbow high… and it took her until the runway show to be able to truly feel comfortable.

and like. i’ve been rooting for bella/amaya dynamic for awhile now. i see a lot of potential in this duo. we know they somewhat have tension. i mean. bella had a really awkward confrontation with amaya and that was rly their first and last conversation. sure they’ve been around each other like in the music video, at the end of s1, and when bella walked into the girls dorm s2ep2 but like. that’s it.

SO ANYWAY. what i’m trying to get at is that these two definitely need to become friends. i mean. they have a LOT in common. i was talking about the new girl situation because i feel like they can relate in that way. they both had an awkward entrance into rainbow high and could bond over that. it took amaya awhile to feel at home at rainbow high… so maybe she could become friends with bella and help her feel at home! they’re both very determined leader types. they’re really passionate and! they have the same friend group! so why not become friends?

- Jade and Bella

of course i will wonder about these two! i have no clue what to expect with them. the fandom and myself are really really really wanting to see these two become a canon sapphic couple. i really want to see this happen! and mga knows this. mga knows we want to see jella happen. i mean, they literally snatched the ship name from us and plastered it into their vlogs. so they KNOW

anyway. these two are literally going through it rn. the way jade’s eyes lit up when she saw bella was back at rh. and now both of them are looking for each other and worried about each other. jade thinking bella is mad at her rn? please. i will sob. they are really holding off this jella reunion but i hope it’s for a good reason. i just want them to talk and have a good reunion… a hug……. happy tears, happy smiles…………..a love confession…

- Amaya

so i don’t really have much to say here but i’m just wondering about amaya this season. she’s definitely been advertised so much to the point that she essentially became like. THE main focus in season 1. this peeved some people but personally i loved amaya being like a sort of main character figure. she didn’t really take attention away from the other characters but also had that energy of being a main character anyway.

my point is, though, idk how she will play out in this season? like is she going to be as much of a main character as the main 6 are…. or will she play a bigger role? i have no clue. it seems bella is going to have a key focus this season, which makes sense, but it still just makes me wonder about amaya’s role this season

- Colin

i just hope this man does not get a development arc. i know some people want him to…. but i just. i don’t. i don’t understand. the point of him existing was to show that cheating is wrong and to display girl power. by teaching that skyler didn’t need a man to prove her worth. that she is her own person. her own strength! i really hope that colin and bella don’t have anything omfg.

- Winter Break

i’m really. REALLY excited for the winter break arc. it’s about time we get to see some backgrounds outside of rainbow high! plus the animated tidbits of ruby, sky, and violet in their wb outfits in the wb commercial was everything.

i’m so excited to see their new hairstyles, to see them with their snow gear and more. omg. of course i think the twins will be involved in this arc someone. krystal briefly mentioned the twins’ family having a ski lodge. and then of course we see sunny with her skis so like. yea!! i just wonder how these episodes would play out. or episode. but anyway like… will they just vibe? or will there be a problem of sorts? if it’s winter break then it probably won’t tie into school or like projects or anything like that

i’m actually hoping kia gets some focus this season. like. what is she going to do? is she going to pair another couple together? (if so, please be jella. okay wait seriously what if she is the key to reuniting jade and bella together… anyway) i just hope to see more of her and possibly more of her and krystal together haha. but kia just vibes so far, it would be lovely to get more of her!

so ainsley is finally beginning to get some attention! i really hope we continue to get more of her as well as avery, and aidan of course! we did get a bunch of content of aidan but you can never have enough honestly.

okay so. this is a big one. jett being a collector doll, i feel like she’ll definitely play a crucial role in the series. so like. who will she be to the main characters? it says she’s generally nice. why was she giving that look to the girls after their runway performance? IDK! i have no clue what to expect with her. i feel like the expectations i had for amaya (before we knew anything about her) will be put into jett because. the vibes i got from amaya ever since we just had her doll… i am also kind of getting from jett. so i’m eager!

Okay so, to preface this all, I’m not a character designer and I’m actually pretty bad at it, but my rule of thumb with really unappealing or fan-service outfits is whether or not it makes sense character-wise and how much it tells the player about the character. For example, I think we can all agree that there’s quite a bit of fan-service elements in Hilda’s design. Boob window. However, it’s not unrealistic to imagine Hilda picking out those clothes for herself. Her costume tells you almost everything you need to know about her character on a visual level. She’s confident, pretty, attention-grabbing, and high maintenance while the gloves and laced girdle give a nod to her Viking-maiden roots.

Taking it to female Byleth, I don’t think that her outfit works on either front. Her design is definitely my least favorite and it’s not helped by the fact that you have to look at her at all times. Whatever. The huge, solid mass of boobs, the buttoned bib, the big eyes, the feather hair, the bellybutton, the ripped tights, the booty shorts. She’s a merc out in life and death situations with an accessible, pale, tacky 2000′s “stab me” stomach cut out and a wedgie. Which could be excusable if, like Hilda, there was reason to believe that that her costume was character choice. But she doesn’t really have much character, and what there is gives the impression of a very stoic, dry, blunt person. I have no idea why they’d have gone that route when the sexual appeal of more “utilitarian” costuming (aka, form fitting armor that at least pretends to be functional) for characters like her is scientifically proven AND would say more about the singular personality trait she possesses. Okay, well, I know why they didn’t do that and I think it’s lame. This dysfunction of “character designer wanted a sexy girl but it’s kinda random and just shoved in the game without any thought” actually reminds me a lot of Xenoblade 2′s leading ladies, Hikari and Pyra. Although considering that their bad designs led to a lot of people hating the game for superficial reasons while accepting female Byleth’s design, I guess I’m just bitter. Jumping to a different comparison, then, look at 2B from Nier Automata. Her design is fine as hell which is kinda hypocritical of me considering that it's explicitly fan-service, but I think it also shows the most damning thing for female Byleth. Her whole look, despite having a dozen different element thrown in, is boring. Maybe it’s the colors (dressing her in all black and white would have been really interesting considering the colors of the three lords are so heavily emphasized as a part of their characters) or maybe it’s just the way the desperate elements come together. But, like I said, I'm not even slightly knowledgeable about character design and I know that despite Three Houses being mostly separate, they had to appeal to a larger aesthetic brand to which I have little experience with. And, ultimately, a lot of people find her cute or sexy which...To each their own, I suppose. I don’t pretend that fan-service doesn’t work on me (2B... Cloud’s arms in the remake... Seph's shirtless Smash skin...) but when it’s this obviously inserted in by the character designers rather than feeling organic in any way AND looks bad I'm just not super interested.

The other worst designs for me would be all four of the Ashen Wolves post timeskip. I don't think it's controversial to say that they didn't try with the clothes, even if I love their designs from the neck up (Yes, even Balthus. He looks like the type of guy that would let you sit on his shoulders at a rock concert so you could see the stage). While there are other designs I think are unappealing, those are for purely aesthetic reasons and so I can't maintain the opinion that they're actively bad or that I even truly dislike them.

As for favorite looks... I actually have a few so sorry you're getting all of them because despite the shit I'm talking, I actually really really love the character designs in Three Houses. 

Ferdinand's post timeskip is one of my favorite designs, if not my favorite. The hair, the coat, the armor, the spurs, the colors. You know exactly who Ferdinand von Aegir is just by looking at him. He’s wealthy, handsome, confident in his appearance, a hero, a princely type character, his battle form is mounted combat which is traditionally aesthetically reserved for nobility and leaders... I love it. The only reason I cannot say he IS my favorite is because of the three Lords. But before them, my honorable mentions include post timeskip Hilda, Dorothea, Lorenz, Felix, and Hubert. Granted, I could make a case for why I like almost all of the student’s post timeskip looks.

For the Lords, I obviously have to start with colors because, weirdly enough, Persona didn’t invent primary colors but are actually used as shorthand. Blue is the color of honor, loyalty, sincerity, sadness, and depression. Something I’ve always found very interesting is that blue is very rarely found in nature. To me, that’s always made it seem more lonely which, at least in this case, is thematically relevant. People call Dimitri boring pre timeskip and while I won’t defend his hairstyle (okay, actually, I probably would because he tucks it behind his ears and idk why but that’s one of the cutest things ever) I really like how unassuming he is. Bland. He’s supposed to be the plain shortbread cookie to caramel deLite Claude and strawberry meringue Edelgard. It is not in his character to draw attention to himself or stand out. To me, he kinda looks like an old Barbie prince, like he should have been named Dominic. Also I love the blue eyes/blonde hair thing and his more angular features. It really helps to sell him as the fakeout chivalrous prince type. Post timeskip, Dimitri's black armor is amazing. I love the fact that it’s a lot more intricate up-close with the different little shell-like pieces and the fact that his boots are furry. I love the big cape and the black and white fur around his shoulders. It’s really cool how they used his costume to change the shape of his in-game model to match the bodily proportions of the character art. It’s easier to see when you change his costume into the DLC ones, but the fur and cape build up his shoulders and chest look more broad while keeping that tiny little waist. The choice to give Dimitri an eyepatch is probably my favorite thing about this design. It’s genuinely inspired. Such a simple detail yet it tells the player everything they need to know about adult Dimitri when they see him post timeskip, in one frame the player can begin to understand the extent of his loss over the past five years. The subtle shadow under his eye in the first few Azure Moon chapters and the messy long-ish hair really help to sell the feral prince aesthetic as well, as it’s from those small cues the player gets that he’s exhausted (in more ways than one) and doesn’t maintain himself. None of these things are intentional choices by Dimtiri, they’re the result of what his character has been through.

Yellow is an intense, energetic color. Mostly, people think of it as being warm and inviting, the color of the sun and positivity. That intensity can be overwhelming, though, too visually demanding when compared to its primary counterparts. Don’t stare at the sun too long. Buuuut, it’s okay to stare at Claude. Claude not wanting to wear tight pants in either of his costumes is not only a mood, it is iconic. Pre timeskip, the softer lines of his silhouette makes him look kinda slouchy, kinda lazy. Like he’s not too concerned with appearances. But those adorably messy curls, the little braid, the clearly tended eyebrows, and earring make it clear that he DOES care about appearances and is very aware of his allure. And that’s before he even starts winking. It is honestly so in character that as many people picked him first on the basis of being thirsty, that feels like an intentionally Claude thing even if it was inserted by the designers. The contrast of his complexion with his seagreen eyes is gorgeous and instantly adds a kind of mystery and intrigue to him considering the setting... but it’s sf funny that nobody looked at bronze god Claude among a sea of white faces and thought something was up. Post timeskip, they used the same trick like they did with Dimitri to change Claude’s in-game model to match his canon appearance. The way they designed his uniform makes him not look as twink-ish, like he’s actually muscular and imposing and has the strength he’d need to shoot a war bow with a 120lbs draw weight. Also like Dimitri, you can instantly tell what Claude’s been up to. Like, he was very pretty pre timeskip but when he shows up in the Goddess Tower after those five years in all that gold, he demands your attention. Like a gentleman general with the excessive aesthetic ideals of the Alliance and details to imply his heritage. The quilted pants are amazing from both an aesthetic and practical standpoint. He’s a mounted unit riding a creature with scales, of course he’d want something on his legs for protection. And the chinstrap. I love that so much, it definitely makes him look more adult. He’s got such a cute soft baby face, it’s fun imagining him experimenting with different styles during the five years to get the most desired physical reaction to him as a leader. 

Frenchfries, meet forehead. No, actually, Edelgard’s design is really fantastic. Claude and Dimitri both have realistically colored eyes and hair and then there’s Edelgard. Dimitri shrugs off attention physically and Claude shirks it with a wink but Edelgard commands the players attention from the very start. Although I’m sure there’s a lot of things to associate with white hair and purple eyes, my first thought was Daenerys from Game of Thrones. Otherworldly beautiful by with an edge. Red, of course, is The power color. Strong emotions, love and hate. Red is also associated strongly with blood, which is very important to Edelgard’s plot. Granted, I think the red and black association is even more powerful than JUST red and red is the cheapest play to make in regards to displaying villainy (I mean, there are some pretty universally recognized associations with red and black and it led to people making some unfair comparisons between Edelgard and a famous dictator) but I think it was effective and well used and I genuinely enjoy its use in her case. Anyway, if I had a major complaint about her design it would be the weird ashy color of her hair whereas Lysithea’s hair is pure white. Which doesn’t even matter with the AMAZING hair horns. Ram horns can actually symbolize quite a few things, but their association with power and strength is pretty universal I think. They’re also used in demonic imagery. I love that THIS was her alternative to a crown. Edelgard views herself as a force of war and power before she thinks of herself as royalty. She also mentions that she isn’t super vain, but she loves to do her hair, so the hair being the most elaborate part of her look is entirely in-character. Edelgard’s ensemble is, like Claude, very militaristic. I love that they kept her in a dress that embraces femininity without showing skin as that wouldn’t really suit her Also, again, Edelgard demands your attention. She’s dressed all in bright bright red waving around a giant axe. She is a symbol as much as she is a combatant, someone to follow. I didn’t really mention their secondary lord costumes, but a girl in sexy armor is literally everything and I love that they had the balls to put their main sexy waifu girl in full body armor.

Okay I’m sorry I realize this was excessive and probably didn’t need explaining and I’m not sure I even articulated my thoughts properly but anyway I love their designs so here is the positivity I’ll put into the world.

Just saw your post about both of them surviving on the statesman, here is how i imagined it myself: them being rescued by the guardians etc. arriving together on Earth. Thor still put Stormbreaker in Thanos' chest except that when Thanos is about to snap his fingers, Loki stops him and Thor gets a second chance but he isn't fast enough and Thanos send Loki flying. Thanos dies but what about Loki? Does he survive? Does Thor use the gauntlet to bring him back? What do the other think? idk.

Which thing did you read, lovie? Are you referring to my rewrite of the IW script? Or are you talking about my Thor/Loki get snapped scenerio?

Cos like I legit don't know if, in the case that both Thor and Loki survive the Statesman AND they both get picked up by the galaxy guardians, that they'd necessarily even be involved in the fight against Thanos? Like the thing we have to confront is that, underpinning both of these characters' motivations is a deep selfishness about one another. Like, especially in the case of their circumstances post-reconciliation after the end of thor3-- this is it for them: they're together, they're both alive, they're both safe. Like, this is everything they have, this is everything they want, this is what they've been working for, and in the circumstance you're suggesting, I find it difficult to see a way out of it that isn't Thor turning to Loki turning to Thor and just being like, "Haven't we paid enough? I'm not risking you again" and then just fucking off.

Like the galaxy guardians aren't gonna be able to persuade them of anything -- neither Thor nor Loki fucking give a shit about any of them or their priorities. Truth be told, neither Thor nor Loki give a shit about any priority in the universe more than they care about each other.

Like, embarrassingly, this is canon to all of the movies. The only reason Thor has ever been involved in the broader MCU universe has been because of Loki. He's only in avengers1 to bring his brother home; he's only in avengers2 to find closure in retrieving and destroying the artefact that drove Loki mad; he's only in IW and EG bc Loki is dead and he needs to avenge him. If you just give him Loki, he has no reason to be anywhere else; he'll just take Loki and leave.

But ok, let's say that they do agree to fight Thanos together (It'll probably be Loki who insists on it tbh; he'll phrase it like "brother I know you, if you run from this now, if you leave our people to the mercies of that mad wolf, you'll regret it all your days.")

(this is all contingent on both of them coming out of the Statesman completely unscathed tho, like, completely: if Loki has so much as a flesh wound on him, Thor is gonna override everything to take him and run. Similarly, if Thor is at all injured, Loki's killing everyone on board, stealing the ship and going to ground)

I don't know if they'd go to Nidavellir? Thor would still feel some security in himself; he would not need the crutch of a new weapon. I especially don't think that Thor would prop the eye of the forge open with his own body like he does in canon -- if Loki is still well and with him, he has no need for his canonical death wish. But ok, let's say they do go to Nidavellir, but they're both getting weapons. They're both kings; it's only fair. Thor gets Stormbreaker but Loki gets a new staff or spear or something.

Let's say they fight the final battle -- and Loki gets hurt trying to stop the snap. Again, if they both live through the snap, they're gonna fucking leave. Nobody's ever gonna see them again -- they are done. If Loki dies in the snap and Thor was the one to agree to bringing him to the battle -- Thor's gonna make a genuine attempt on his own life. If Thor dies and Loki is the one who insisted on fighting Thanos -- he's gonna go, kill Thanos, and get the fucking time stone

the thing with the series right now, is that im getting major mixed signals.

personally i get the people who are saying this is going a bit too smoothly and deku will hit a roadblock soon. because that's the way i feel too. deku's general appearance rn feels unsettling and unnatural to me at least, so im waiting for the moment where something is gonna give and everyone else will be re-introduced. im down for that.

but at the same time, it feels kind of disingenuous, because deku's not really doing it alone is he? he's got his ghost buddies that are at no real risk of injury and pretty much all think positively of him. they're all good people helping him grow and helping him do the right thing. on top of that he's got the top 3 heroes AND all might shadowing him. can that really be called doing it alone? it's not like deku ran away and is homeless, it's not like the vestiges are some shady figures tempting him to do questionable shit. nope, he's just training "solo" while still relying on teamwork albeit indirectly (shindou's attack against muscular). deku hasn't gone dark or edgy or lost his mind. he seems a bit sadder and more serious, definitely traumatized from everything in the war, but he is still smiling, and his mindset seems fine, if a little heavy leaning into the chosen one role.

we hope the narrative will eventually frame deku ditching his friends as wrong, but it's at most a shitty friend move, not a life altering mistake, not when he does still have support. we hope his focus on doing things solo will be framed as a flaw, but it would feel disingenuous since he's not doing things solo. he's just ditched his old support system for a new one, and the reason it feels so frustrating for me is that you've got this huge cast of already developed characters i care about being seemingly "replaced" (even if temporarily) by a new cast of characters (half of whom introduced in what we assume is near-endgame) with in comparison paper thin personalities that all fall into a slightly different brand of good boy.

maybe horikoshi will somehow get me to care about banjou and whoever four was beyond a surface level "oh im cool with him being on screen" but i'll still feel bad because it would mean splitting up the panel time between even more characters in an already huge cast, and eating up everyone else's moments.

maybe this could have worked if the other users had some more spice in their personalities, provided more conflict for izuku. but they don't. they're all nice and they're all love him. which isn't bad. it's just a bit boring. it's like those harry potter fanfics i used to write as a 12 year old where voldemort never existed and everyone was just happy.

and it's very telling that number 2 created such a big buzz in the fandom specifically because he reminds us of a certain someone down to the way he kicks down doors. it's almost like the moment a character with a certain personality shows up we all get excited because we see the potential for conflict and intriguing storyline. and it's not bakugou's appearance that facilitates this (i guarantee reactions would be similar even if 2 kept his personality while looking nothing like baku. the appearance is just the bonus) but rather his character. i know he's gonna provide more narrative struggle and therefore growth for deku than someone like banjou is. disagreement drives a story forward.

and that circles back to my main problem with the current arc. it's not that i hate deku or think he's boring. i just prefer his interactions with other characters and want to see him around people that will actually challenge him. the reason i like having bakugou around deku is that he provides important balance. that's why i found him entertaining in the ofa tea times. the moment he joined he started pushing them. deku and all might had been pussyfooting around each other a lot and bakugou comes in and instantly challenges them, brings a worldview to the table that's uniquely his and that contradicts both deku and all might. he brings conflict. bootleg not bakugou does that too, but even this in a subdued manner (apparently yoichi just had to flirt with him a little and he was down). whereas everyone else is just the happy circle of good person trademarked flowerchildren who can all respect each other's opinions. WHERE IS THE SPICE?

perhaps if i was more invested in deku's character or the fight level up aspect of the story i'd be more down for this. but as we are now i just read every chapter and think "... ok". i was discussing it with my brother yesterday aswell, and he agreed that there's gotta be some more spice to the ofa plot than this. it was such an interesting power at first with so much potential for mystery and intrigue. i liked it even after sixquirks popped up because i liked deku unlocking backwhip. horikoshi did a fantastic job with that scene and i could feel for izuku's frustration at being seemingly put back to square one with a volatile power after watching him struggle so much with getting it under control the first time.

but then the charm was lost because everything started going way too smoothly and all the windows for possible conflict were being rapidly shut, from the possibility of evil/unwilling users to the dilemma of giving that type of power to a kid in the first place.

just idk. sorry this got so long i just have a lot of feelings lmao 😭 i hope ill end up eating my words and that hori actually has something great planned that ive missed the clues for but well, i don't have high hopes.

I fully agree. This covers all my frustration points that I have voiced before. 

And exactly the fact that he’s teamed up with ghost friends and top 3 is what makes this so frustrating. He REPLACED his friends. In order to protect them, he just ditched them, and I wouldn’t care if we would get the UA scenes in parallel, but we are not getting anything. 

They just POOF disappeared from the story, and with the MC being seemingly on track, we have no clue when we would see them next. And what’s worse, it feels like they don’t matter in this post-war world. Not to the story, not to Deku, not to All Might, not to anyone. 

And yeah, maybe it will lead to something, but that doesn’t change the fact that the pacing is horrible, the OFA development is insultingly dumb and there is just no sense of accomplishment. 

Deku gets like candy powers and abilities that other characters GRIND years for. Bakugou’s first updrade in hundreds of chapters was this new explosion speed boost that he earned by sacrificing his life and before we even get to see it in a fight, it already looks like a rusty old car compared to Deku’s full-extra flying batmobile. 

Even if we cut back to the students, their abilities will just feel too pedestrian and overshadowed by Deku. Which is why I’m losing hope that we’d see them fight ever again or get any role or development other than whatever group battle is planned for them in the end. And of course a few extra panels for the main kids.
