a fic which i adore with every fibre of my being. i will not say anything more about this, except to request you to go read this. you'll love it. (especially the fantabulous ending. btw, did i already say how much i'm in love with how well-written this fic is?)

one of the best angst-with-a-happy-ending fic there is. i wish i could give thousands of kudos for the heart-wrenchingly amazing way the author has portrayed gojo's character here.

one of the most beautiful works i've read so far. told from yuuji's pov, it explores gojo and reader's relationship and its nuances in a way seldom done before. however, what stole the show for me, was the soft and sweet mother-son duo the reader and yuuji grow to be in this fic. i really love this one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

(the second chapter's the cherry on the cake. it's so good!!!!)

i want to plug Pacific Drive real quick. i had a free day yesterday so i spent it in its entirety glued to the screen. i'm not proud. check out this game!!!!!!

it's kind of like a mix between STALKER and Firewatch (by vibe. in my head). (the Impact of Roadside Picnic on our society!) idk the official genre tags on the game but at its base it is a survival game with looting and crafting.

but. you're doing all that to spoil your beautiful princess (your maybe sentient cat that maybe will kill you eventually). you spend 80% of the time in your car, it's your defense against the elements and the Zone. the gameplay loop is fairly simple - you drive, you listen to scientists bicker over the radio, you loot, you lose half your car, you HAUL ASS, you get home.

the game offers a HUGE variety of stuff to explore, from anomalies to weather conditions to biomes to the weird flora/fauna to lore. there's SO much lore, idk who decided to write a blurb for every type of paint. huge game for people who love to collect stuff. and collecting stuff is sometimes a puzzle on its own because you need different tools (which are often interchangeable, thankfully, with varying efficiency).

and driving is very fun. i have a special condition called "Played Skyrim in formative years", so the mountains are a challenge to me, not a barrier. i enjoy the fact that driving being the focal point reshapes the world significantly (from the gamedev pov), because it is built to accommodate driving instead of just running around. the roads are the main focus of all the anomalies due to that, so frankly running around would be easier than dodging the roadblocks, but also you would fucking die. it's actually funny that i regularly find the roads by the concentration of anomalies instead of like. the road itself.

the game is pretty. the GIANT walls/lab megastructures blow my mind, they're so fucking huge. BUT. one problem i have is that there are too many nights. i have already toggled "Shorter nights" on, and still it feels like 60% of rounds take place at night (maybe i'm doing something wrong idk). yes, it is a challenge, but also i wish i could see the game?

the world itself is pretty fun. i have already mentioned STALKER, which is a very fair comparison since you're in a Zone filled with Anomalies. except this time the Zone is not a strictly "natural" occurence, which mixes this genre with the "fucked up mid-20th cent american science->military complex" genre. it is really interesting to see many different opinions on what the Zone is doing in the lore. and you can draw your own conclusions from interacting with it. it is as likely to harm you as help you, and most of the time it just Fucks with you (LIM shield ilu).

what hasn't i mentioned yet? the characters are fun, an old jaded scientist lady who's entombed herself within her creation, her ex-colleague and his bf/husband who stayed in the Zone to hunt cryptids, all lovely. the music is mostly good, but unfortunately there aren't too many tracks, so some get old really quick (i WISH i got tired of DOCTOR JUICE). but do check the radio from time to time, there are cool transmissions you can catch there.

idr if there was a difficulty selector anywhere, but you can make the game easier at will in the settings - keep inventory, restore the car when back home, etc. i wish i had known about these settings when i "died" at the EXACT moment i moved to another zone, because i both lost half my inventory AND was forced to continue my run due to that lmao. the game is Not easy tbh. the first time i was in the city with a hole in the center i couldn't climb out of there because it was pitch dark and my car was so so broken, it actually made me super frustrated. but when you learn all that stuff and actually plan for it and outfit your car with it mind, it all becomes manageable and enjoyable. it is decidedly not a horror game, but it Is unsettling at times. dense fog+bigfoot weather conditions made me SO paranoid, although i didn't actually see anything lol

so yeah, i totally recommend the game if you enjoy survival games. here are also some tips for people trying the game out for the first time, aka what I wish I had known:

In the beginning doing more runs (=bringing in more anchors) will be more benefitial than turning over every rock in every zone because a lot of good stuff is locked behind upgrades. One exception - quest zones with Perpetual Stability, you can explore and loot there for an hour if you want

Shorten the nights. It's not fun to stumble around blindly, especially not in the beginning while you're still learning

Hold T to teleport your car out of sticky situations and use Y to sort inventories. idk why they don't tell you that

PLAN. Look at the resources in each location has before launching and bring extra instruments/raw materials in accordance

Invest into better batteries and renewable energy, it gets more and more important as you progress. You don't really need to upgrade the gas tank until you've upgraded the engine, unless you spend 50% of the time trying to crawl up a mountain with summer tires (off-road tires are the shit)

Skip the crowbar, the impact hammer and scrapper can do everything it does

Dying is not super scary aside from losing progress, you just lose your inventory and maybe some attachments, but you will get an opportunity to find the wreckage of your car on a different run (orange tombstone? icon) and to loot it

a/n: whew second post! i hope you enjoy this one. it was my first time writing any form of smut and i'm quite pleased with it tbh. if i miss any warnings, let me know!

pairing: ragnar lothbrok x female character (reader? sure.)

warnings: uhm smut for sure, ragnar is cheating on aslaug and she definitely knows, age gap

summary: ragnar has a a soft spot for a young woman, a woman young enough to be his daughter

his hands felt rough and smooth at the same time as they roamed over her arms. she could feel the tickle of his beard at her ear as he whispered in her ear. she closed her eyes and felt herself fall into him, back pressing into his chest. 

they were at a feast in the great hall, standing against one of the walls while their friends and family were enjoying the food and festivities. they have only shared hidden touches and chaste kisses until now. now, even though they were in the dark, they were surrounded by people. 

she was closer to his oldest son’s age but that didn’t stop him from wanting her. he knew he shouldn’t but he found himself throwing caution to the wind. he wanted to take her and show her how beautiful he thought she was, how smart, how wonderful. 

she knew she shouldn’t feel this way, he was her best friend’s father. the man who had taken her in when she had nothing. he made her feel things she never thought she’d feel. he made her feel like she was something. 

he was getting tired of waiting on everybody to leave so he could be alone with her. so he could be with her the way he wanted to. he moved his hands down to her waist, pulling her tight against him. he reveled in the light gasp that left her mouth. 

she was feeling more confident tonight than she ever had. she leaned her head back on his shoulder so she could whisper in his ear. “ragnar…” she breathed. “i need you.”

that was all he needed. gods, it was all he wanted. “your wish,” he whispered back, pressing a kiss to the side of her face. “come along, quietly.” he led her along, in front of him, behind the crowd toward an empty, unused bedroom. 

he wanted to take her to his room but it was an arrangement he had with aslaug, his wife, he could take whoever he liked as long as it wasn’t in their shared bed. but, gods, how he wished. 

once they were behind the closed door, he turned her around and kissed her, hands grabbing her face. he needed her just as she said she needed him. he felt like he needed her to breathe. everything had been tense and every time he was near her he felt everything shift off his shoulders. 

he pressed her back to the door, letting his hands roam down her sides, stopping at the back of her thighs. he gripped them, causing her to lift one leg at a time and hook them to his hips. he held her against the door with his body, hands still holding her legs as he kissed down her neck. “ragnar,” his name came as a whisper. 

he returned to her lips with more fierceness than before, more neediness. his grip tightened on her thighs, eliciting a moan from her. he pulled back and smirked at her, causing a blush to creep on her face. “there’s no need to be nervous with me.”

she moved one of her hands to his face, thumb at his lower lip. “you make me nervous,” she said, quietly. 

he easily maneuvered them to the bed, laying her on her back, hovering over her. “how” kiss. “do i” kiss. “make you” kiss. “nervous?” 

“you make me feel things i’ve never felt,” she said. “that makes me nervous.”

“and what do i make you feel?” he asked, kissing down her neck again.  

“wanted,” she breathed as he kissed the hollow of her neck. 

he began to untie the laces of her dress with one hand, while propping himself up with the other. he was looking her in her eyes, piercing through them with his own. he pushed his hand into her dress, palming her breast, causing her to moan. gods, he wished he could bathe in that sound. 

“if you do not stop me now, i do not think you will be able to stop me at all,” he said, eyes fully blown now that he was this close to feeling her completely. 

“i do not want you to stop,” she began pulling at the king’s top. “i want you to take this off. i want to feel you.”

he smirked and removed the offending garment. “then you shall have me,” he said before reattaching his lips to hers.

he moved his hand down her body and pushed her skirts up to her waist. he looked at her face once more before pushing one of his fingers inside her, closing his eyes at the feeling of her warmth. he pushed another finger inside and used his thumb to rub her. the sounds coming from her made him pick up speed as she moved her hips in time with him. 

“ragnar,” she moaned. “ragnar…i…i need you. please.” 

he growled as he pulled his hand away from her and began to untie his pants. once he was free he wasted no time pushing himself into her, slowly, savoring the feeling. “gods,” he breathed. 

he began thrusting into her with everything he had in him. he couldn’t remember the last time he felt such euphoria. maybe it was because he knew that he was the only one who had ever made her feel this way. the only one who’s been inside her.

“ragnar…” she whined as she gripped his arms. 

“that’s it, my love, with me,” he said in her ear as he came with her. 

he laid on top of her, not wanting to pull out of her just yet. the two of them laid there coming down from their highs for a moment. when he did pull out, he groaned at the loss of contact. stuffing himself back in his pants, he rolled to lay beside the young woman, pulling her skirts back down to cover her. he rubbed a thumb over her cheek. 

“finally,” he said with a smile. 

“are you finished with me now?” she said, only slightly joking. 

“i will never be finished with you,” he said, pulling her in for another kiss. “and one day, the world will know you’re mine.” 

“the world?” she said, running her hands over the man’s face. 

“the world,” he said, kissing her deeply. “you should be my queen.”

1- the character everyone gets wrong

i. 🧍 ok so ive been more in my bubble lately so perhapeth my frothing at the mouth will be a bit more outdated idk. im scared of the main tags LOL but. ahem, i am torn between wanting to pick riddle, maybe cater, or ROOK. im a rook apologist til the day i die i s2g. however i am a heartslabyul stan first and a person second, as i have said many a time, so im going with CATER MY BELOVED CAYCAY ACTUALLY.

listen i admit here that i could also be Fully Wrong bc tbh cater's whole Deal is so vaguely hinted at and peppered in at the most spaced out moments and we know so very little about his Secret Sadness and more somber side, there's probably more that we still dont know that maybe [I HOPE] they will spring on us over time. however. HOWEVER. i do not think cater's sunshine upbeat persona is 100% "Fake". like i think there's more to it. yes sure he is implied to be putting on more of a peppy face for the sake of people around him and gets exhausted by it, but i dont think that means it's ALL A LIE and that the sad boy cater is the REAL cater. like i think it's all real, to an extent? something i really like about twst are how, at least to me, everyone seems to be pretty well rounded and multifaceted. there's not really a one note character. everyone's got their own personality and backstory and some we just have learned more about than others. but the way they react to certain situations and certain people and certain environments... just like in real life, it's going to change sometimes depending on the situation. so maybe he masks a bit and pushes out the negativity bc he's def the mediator type who tries to keep up morale, but i dont think that means he's never once experienced Real Joy in his life. i know the lab story with the madrake had those more morose sadlad mandrakes he desperately wanted to hide from lilia and vil [even tho they saw right through him] but the other ones he made still reflected him too! aspects of him, for better or for worse. i'm just saying i don't think it's gotta be all or nothing. there's def more to him under the surface, but i don't think that means everything he shows is all a complete lie forever either.

to follow up on that, i ALSO don't agree w/the depiction that his friendships mean nothing to him / are also all "fake". listen. i have reread cater's wish from the starsending event SEVERAL times. i know. IT HURTS where trey implies he thinks cater isn't being fully open and honest with him. I KNOW. and the bit in cater's halloween card story (i'm pretty sure it was cater's anyway) where he thinks to himself that lilia has no idea what kind of helplessness he's feeling bc lilia has his diasomnia long term friends and cater's had to move around so much so he's never had that, and it kinda seemed implied that his old friends dont really keep in touch til hes relevant on magicam for the stuff going on in school . i get it! HOWEVER. i think it's again a more complex situation. i think, personally, cater as he's said few times in canon - he likes to live in the moment and make memories! but i don't think those good memories are fake. i think you can enjoy people's company and love them a whole lot and still keep them at a bit of a distance. i think cater does mask some of his more serious feelings, as trey implied he suspected. i think cater probably does get tired of being the mediator. i think being the third in command at heartslabyul is exhausting and cater's a teen boy with a lot of complicated feelings, but i think he has fun with lilia and kalim in pop music club. i think he and trey are genuine friends - they roomed together for 2 years! i think he loves teasing his little freshmen buddies like a big brother lol. i'm about to go on about riddle and cater in the next question but fkljsdfjlkse.

yes cater holds back, but i dont think that means he's never expressed genuine feelings either!!!

8- common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

i am biting anyone that tries to imply cater and riddle arent friends or that trey prefers riddle over cater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LISTEN listen listen. ok i get that it can be an interesting concept to explore of the potential tension between cater riddle and trey w/like childhood friends trey and riddle but then bestie 3rd years trey and cater but then riddle shows up and takes control- i get it! i dont necessarily think it's wrong to explore that potential area.

however. HOWEVER. we are talking about MY options and thoughts and feelings on beloved heartslabyul LOL. And I think cater and riddle ARE FRIENDS!!!!!!! i think all three of them!!!! are!!!!! FRIENDS!!!!!!!! THEY GET ALONG THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!!! some people portray riddle as being annoyed with cater or whatever and like , on one hand riddle is annoyed at many things and caycay's kind of a goofball so like yeah to a degree that's true LOL but!!!! BUT!!!!! riddle trusts cater. riddle likes cater!!! if you've read the heartslabyul card stories as many times as i have fjlksjkejs you would KNOW that riddle trusts cater enough to have him and trey at his side constantly and gives them BOTH roles of leading the underclassmen for stuff like preparing for the unbirthday parties!! and when he's having his little meltdowns in book 1, trey and cater were the ones he had kind of on the front lines of ejecting ace or whatever klsjfv they are his trusted boys!!! AND in halloween 2 when cater was missing, riddle said usually he'd get on cater's case for talking too much (lol) but he, along with trey and ace, were 😔😔😔 making the saddest of faces as he said it felt weird to NOT hear cater making his jokes to lighten the mood, and trey ALSO commented on how cater's usually there to smooth things over. cater is a mediator and a morale booster and he is recognized as such!!

plus!!! riddle made a point in his dorm outfit story of helping cater study, as he does with all the heartslabyul boys that are struggling, but in a way cater could understand. he literally made a magicam and used it exclusively to help cater focus better and learn in a way that worked for him. like yea he loses his temper, bc hes Like That, but he ALSO cares. he also tries! he's got his flaws but he's still in spite of those flaws doing what he can to try and understand the people around him and especially his TRUSTED FRIENDS LIKE CATER!!!!

and trey loves cater too!!! they are friends!!! yes yes whatever i read the cater gym story where trey goes "u and me are tight but riddle and i are tighter as his housewarden lol" listen to me. LISTEN TO ME. grabbing u all by the shoulders and shaking you so much LISTENNNNNNNNNNNN. again i get it that it can be fun to explore that further of like "ough he chooses riddle over cater cater is all alone" and like im not the fun police people can do what they want. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do not think it was That Deep. like maybe it was, maybe a little bit. but i did not read that as "trey doesnt care about cater" or anything like that. i very much see trey and cater's bond as like easygoing well oiled machine but also with a lot of banter and teasing. trey has said on a home screen line (i wanna say it's his ceremony robes card) that he and cater's friendship just kinda naturally fell into place bc cater's really easy to get along with and trey feels like he can be himself around him [which yes coupled with the line he says in starsending about how he feels like maybe cater's got more personal wishes that maybe he doesnt feel like he can share with Trey Specifically is. painful. LOL] and actually!!! in both their ceremony robes stories they are together and trey is teasing cater i think lol. like in cater's they're doing the guessing game of which dorm each student would get sorted into. theyre playing a game!!! cater's being silly sometimes and treys kinda shaking his head at him for some of his comments, but theyre getting along and are comfortable and it's a lighthearted thing. then in trey's story, theyre panicking about how the roses arent painted how they should be, trey says caters gotta split card and go for it and is like "lol thanks for ur sacrifice ♥", caters like THATS EXHAUSTINGGGGGG and treys like "yea yea ill listen to you complain all you want later". and trey smiles to himself at caters magicam post right after! it's endearing. panic together, solutions together, complaining and teasing but ultimately they work well together! they are friends who get along! trey is kind of a goofy guy but it's not as apparent, but i think we see it a little more especially within heartslabyul and especially with cater. maybe thats part of what he means by feeling like he can be more relaxed and stuff around cay. god theres so much of cater and trey being absolute besties - even grim and lilia have separate lines commenting on how theyre like bffs. grim mentions it in the scalding sands event, something about how it's no surprise that cater invited trey to come on the trip. and lilia in book 5 straight up says [in the engtwst translation] "I'm surprised you didn't invite your partner, Trey." and then i mean yea cater immediately is like "wahhh i DID but hes busy helping riddle he rejected meeee we are rejected buddiessss" and later is like "wahhh riddle stole trey away~!!!" when theyre checking on everything lol. BUT i think a lot of that is like just caycay bein silly and trey not only had other obligations but also was likely not going to want to do a performance thing anyway [trey even says later like 'i told you im bad at song and dance lol'] fsjklejkf like i dont think it's that deep here, i think cay was just havin a goof complaining and wanting to hang with his buddies lol. but my point was lilia basically being like "hey man where is your other half that you are constantly with" BECAUSE THEY ARE FRIENDS!!!

Completely agree on the shipping discourse. Tbh nowadays I mostly ignore or avoid those topics all together like, if anything I look and like fan art and such. I'm too old for fandom shenanigans, and I don't want them to ruin the ships I like, whether they argue in favor and against them. I think the worst part is stans of certain characters acting all high and mighty, which is something that's been happening lately and coughs Jin slander

Usually I try to ignore these topics, too. At leeeeast not try to engage with the people starting them. But goooosh, it does get tiring seeing the discourse frequently, y'know?? I can't say I really go into the Tek tag often. Mostly I just look at the reddit for news. Reddit and YouTube I frequent just 'cos I don't wanna miss the reveal of a new character, potential leaks I could be interested in, or any news regarding the game!!

I just find people who act high and mighty over preferring a character to another. Like it's just silly as hell. You have no "moral high ground" just because you like a character you may deem to be less problematic (despite that character still being very problematic) I may prefer Jin but I can also enjoy Kazuya's character, too... like that's possible. It's possible to like both, y'know? It's also possible to not get so heated over one or the other. Like yeah, I hope Jin prevails in Tek8 - but I'm not wishing to watch Kazuya die or feeling excited and happy about the idea of him dying. Honestly, I don't really mind what happens to Kazuya - as long as it's written well and makes for a good story and potential good closure for the character. All the characters, really.

There's not really any Tekken character I "hate" or feel the need to "besmirch" to hold my favorite up. Most of the characters I like, or I just feel indifferent toward. (And even Lucky Chloe, I mostly just "hate" her because of the writing revolving around her and Eddy.) I just have something against a few stans' behavior.

5. What game would you recommend to someone new to the series?

ugh this is so HARD because i don't think there's any game that's perfect for this...

if they're new to the series but have enjoyed at least a couple older video games at some point (and thus have some tolerance for a bit of gameplay cruft and GBA-era rough edges), i'd be really tempted to throw Sacred Stones at them. absolutely gorgeous sprites, good music, probably the most solid/focused/best-executed story in the series, fun support conversations, and very good gameplay whose only flaw is "it's kinda too easy." but it's satisfying and if someone likes everything about it but "too easy," then that's an easy problem to fix with subsequent games lol

i suspect Awakening is probably the objectively-better answer, though. first "modern"-feeling FE in terms of how streamlined and nice the mechanics feel, the depth/multiplicity of strategies, the storyline is weaker but still has definite highlights (especially when the kids show up), etc

Three Houses is a solid contender but the game is kind of bloated with extras that i think can make playing it feel like a bit of a drag; i know a lot of people who just kinda flaked out or gave up b/c of all the monastery stuff, and i wouldn't want someone's first FE to end that way

i do love the Tellius games but i wouldn't recommend them as starter games. the 3d sprites are kinda ugly and it definitely shows its age a bit in terms of gameplay cruft

11. A character that deserved better?

Edelgard, tbh. she's fantastic when the game isn't trying to make her all woobie/waifu/etc. wouldn't even take many changes to fix this one!

also Renning. i love what's on the page but he gets so little and shows up so late. give the dude some damn base conversations plz

also Meg. the game is so mean to her, goddamn.

oh boy. the problem here is, if i finished playing an FE game, that means i liked it well enough over all, even if there's stuff i didn't like. like, i wish Awakening's storyline was stronger, but it definitely feels like it executed on exactly what it wanted to do, so i wouldn't say the game deserves better per se

so i guess i'll say the two FE games i tried and failed to play:

fe6: i ragequit on the map with the fucking reinforcements that move the same turn that they spawn. motherfuckers. why

fe14: i was already pretty "eh" on the story and then that one fucking "defend [x] turns" map (unhappy reunion iirc) took SO much finicky effort to survive that by the time i finished it i was like. ugh. i'm so tired. and then i put it down for a while and never picked it back up oops

13. What do you like most about Fire Emblem?

...god this is going to make me sound SO uncultured but, the support conversations, especially in the older games, are just so delightful. delightful in-and-of-themselves (especially when they would happen DIRECTLY ON THE BATTLEFIELD lmao), and also, were probably weirdly influential in how i thought about game writing / writing generally. conveyed a huge amount of personality & implied huge things about the world & in a relatively small space; and also refused to let anyone be just a rando soldier in your army; you can look back at short fiction i wrote in middle school and see how much i was striving to get that huge-cast-small-space-feel in that format. simple but effective approach

also it's nice to have a big-name game series that executes so well on story and gameplay, on average. i've played a lot of Final Fantasy and i love those games but. often the gameplay is just kinda mediocre/grind-y, right, and i'm forcing my way through for the story? could NOT be fire emblem lol

god i feel that omori post

when it first came out i played it through once and enjoyed some aspects of it (pretty much just a couple of characters and the soundtrack). and then when i tried playing it again i had a sad realization that i liked what the game *wanted to be* more than i liked what it actually was.

the story was super predictable, like i figured out what the "twist" was like. immediately. quickly enough that i didn't realize it was supposed to be a twist and not just obvious subtext until i saw other ppls reactions to the game. (rip media literacy) the ending felt so flat even the "true" ending barely added anything. when you finally get to the part of the game where you're going through the "creepier" areas it was such a blatant yume nikki ripoff that i was genuinely annoyed, you couldn't even say "inspired by" it was so copy paste.

i know a lot of people joke on the whole "rpg maker earthbound-esque based on depression blahblahblah" game genre, but i like a lot of those. omori just felt like a lot of those put together in a way that made me wish i was playing the games it was inspired by more than the game itself.

at this point i just occasionally listen to a few of the songs i liked and haven't engaged with the game or the fandom since the game was new. (the fandom sucks btw, super toxic like holy shit. like i said earlier there's just no media literacy and ppl so up at arms about ship wars with characters who are like 12/16)

No you're so good. I really try to take a generous approach to critiquing things so I reserved my opinions about it for some time but I continue seeing so much praise for it 3 years later and I'm sorry it just rings soulless to me.

And it isn't that I don't sympathize - the best parts of the game are the art and direction. Sometimes artists aren't also good storytellers and sometimes they can't break from following to closely to their inspiration.

But the amount of praise it's garnered really feels undue. I get what you're saying about it being a tired critique but it feels really true in this case. The scary parts were literally yume nikki. But not as effective because yume nikki was original and creepy because of the lack of narrative.

And idk. It's like; in comparison, Yume Nikki is clearly inspired by a game like LSD dream simulator. But it doesn't feel derivative or trying to *be* LSD dream simulator.

Did it again, folks. Got emotionally invested in a game with no fandom. Feels bad, man.

Played Yuppie Psycho, got one of the endings, working on the rest.

Absolutely one of my favorite games ever. Didn’t know what to expect going in, especially as there’s no fandom hype. Can’t even remember how i heard about it tbh. I had finished Ib for the first time a few months ago, and was expecting a similar experience- very short pixel rpg that was light on story and left much up to the viewer’s imagination.

Surprised to find myself totally engrossed the entire way through, and actually intrigued by the story and nuggets of world building. The game is much longer than Ib and I was impressed at the length for an indie. Shorter than Omori, though, but multiple endings.

I did especially enjoy the ease of play. It is slightly challenging, but not difficult. I have a disability and can’t play games that require quick reflexes, and thankfully this was never a problem. I’d say that the speed needed to avoid enemies was on par with Ib. very fun to play. Some games i only play for the story, but the gameplay is actually fun! My favorite gameplay system is usually turned-based rpg, so enjoying this so thoroughly was really different for me.

One thing to note is the save system. A single-use limited item is needed to save. Just by luck i happened to buy the switch version, and I leave my Switch Lite in perpetual sleep mode, so I don’t have to worry to about turning it off for the day, so I can just pause when I’m done. I do see why the creator did this, it does add to the sense of dread and urgency, but it can’t be a pain for people who need to turn off their system.

For a survival horror pixel indie game, I’d say the scare factor is quite a bit more grotesque than Ib or the spooky parts of Omori. I don’t recall any jumpscares. the creepiest bit is probably viewing the video tapes you can collect along the way, as they’re filmed in live action, like 20 second horror movies. They’re skippable though.

If you’re tired of playing games about teens, the main characters are all working adults.

I do wish the characters and more distinct designs, just for the cosplay factor (i wanna represent and I can’t draw lol), but I realise that Brian and Kate are meant to be ‘every people’. You could probably pull it off if you had a group, though.

Incredibly frustrated that there’s next to no fandom, as I think YP is absolutely on par with Omori, DDLC, and Ib. I still have no idea why this happens to good games. The right let’splayer didn’t push it or something? I’m old, idk how things get popular. tbh I’ve been avoiding my media hobbies (anime, manga, gaming) for years now because of how frustrating is when I find something that blew me away, only to discover that no one else has heard of it.

·         SMUT: mindless smut sometimes is good in the sense it’s self-indulgent for me, but if it’s overdone, i do get burnt out really quickly. i usually reserve smut for closer rp partners or more established ships, but sometimes i’ll open it up to flings to explore new relationships and situations with muses. but tbh, one of my fave kind of smut is the kind that allows for a lot of exploration of a muse’s sexuality. not just who they’re attracted to but also just like, them learning how to manage and cope with sexual desire, sexual activities, and sexual exploration overall. i especially love this with alison because her perspective is skewed as a result of some trauma, so i always enjoy letting her explore her sexuality with other muses. 

·         PLOT  /  MEMES: i absolutely love plotting. i love plotting so much, like it honestly gives me so much joy to yell at people on discord about our muses and just take an idea and spin it into something so much bigger. i like memes too, but i feel like sometimes i get anxious from them just sitting in my inbox even tho there’s technically no rush or obligation to even answer the memes. it’s a weird thing, but memes are def a good way to break the ice sometimes. i wish i was able to send more memes out to people, but it’s hard to find time to sit down and scroll through the memes to find a good one to send to people :pensive:

I’m gonna address these together bc they’re very similar but I have to point out, first of all, that “favorite” and “best” are overlapping but definitely distinct categories. Like, ppl have favorite movies that are objectively bad (as in, poorly made) all the time. It’s a whole thing. That being said...

I particularly hate how ppl talk about PatP most of the time. It’s so propped up by nostalgia, first of all, which is fine I guess, but just bc you nostalgically enjoy something doesn’t make it the “best,” ESPECIALLY if you refuse to engage with it beyond that nostalgia. And a lot of ppl do lmfao it is incredibly exhausting to witness.

It’s like if I thought Teen Witch was the best movie in the world just bc I first saw it when I was 4. That would be stupid bc 24 years have passed and I have obviously grown as a person in that time and can now point out stuff I didn’t notice or care about when I was 4, some of which means I definitely see the movie in a different light. I think this is good, I would be worried if I still had the same thoughts and feelings about something after 24 years. (This is a tangent, but I have actually compared Teen Witch and PatP before so it’s not actually out of complete nowhere.)

But anyway, ppl have a lot of nostalgia attached, and then they both won’t engage with the movie on a deeper level (as fandoms are often wont to do), but they also won’t engage with anything else, like, say Princess and the Popstar. Which it is constantly compared to. But they won’t even give Popstar a chance bc it’s “modern” and “shallow” and somehow it’s ruining their childhood by being made 8 years after Pauper (by which time, btw, the actual target audience of the movies would have aged out and they’d be aiming at a new audience... interesting). Ppl refuse to even acknowledge that beyond the “identical stranger switching places” thing, the movies have very little in common. The contexts for the switches are completely different, the characters are completely different, they have almost NOTHING to do with each other beyond “To Be a Princess/Popstar” (which is both a cute callback and very interesting study in the change in the function and role of royalty in 250 years), and Keira being a singer (with her name being an anagram of Erika). Like, you don’t have to like Popstar, but if you’re just gonna compare it to Pauper and never give it a chance to be its own thing, you’re gonna have a bad time! Bc it IS ITS OWN THING.

This is part of a larger problem of ppl just refusing to engage with any barbie movie beyond nostalgia, and thinking they’re somehow superior for not watching anything past (usually) around 2008, as if there weren’t 8 more years of good movies after that. PatP is just symbolic of those ppl and I’ve been watching it all for nearly 10 years now and I’m so fucking tired. They never change, they’re always like this, and it makes me wish that I’d never found the fandom in the first place (since it was via PatP, ironically). It’s a constant, Sisyphean hell to be in this fandom lmao.

So basically, yes, I think ppl should stop saying PatP is the best bc it is subjective, but also bc Those People don’t really engage with it beyond “pretty movie.” And even that is like, yes they did the best with what they could for the time, but it was 2004 low budget animation and is janky as hell in many spots. There are several plot holes. The best part (imo) is the songs, and even with those, they could have been used more effectively (there’s literally no reason that Erika needs to sing a song to her cat about how he’s fine the way he is). But mostly it just pisses me off bc ppl won’t shut up about it, honestly. I’m bitter and I think rightfully so tbh.

As for my favorite, probably Secret Door bc of my own nostalgia factor (first new movie I watched after joining the fandom). For best, I think Star Light Adventure is honestly the peak of barbie movies (altho I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, just their best work). And surprise surprise, they both came out after 2008.

I agree with everything you said about the finale of Stranger Things 4. The ending is rushed and kinda lacks of emotional impact (really annoying bc it could have been so much better, like El and Hopper reuniting).

I kinda think the Duffers want to keep everything vague as much as possible for, like they said, "the big reveal in ss5", "everything comes full circle",... there's been discussions and analysises where ss5 will go down but it's just based on small hints and subtexts. It's like the main role of ss4 is a set-up for ss5, like an 'open-ending' where every scenario is possible, which is hella confusing tbh.

I have to admit that I was rooting for Will and Mike in vol1, but Vol2 makes me realise that Michael Wheeler is really in need of character development (pls give my boy Will the protangonist era back)

i agree w your finale thoughts- i don’t follow the media circus around the show much but i do get the impression s4 is meant to be set-up for s5, which is very annoying to me because if you’re a good writer set-up should not negate storytelling… there are many shows which use a season to set something up but still tell a compelling standalone story in that season!

re mike and will, i’m fairly neutral abt it, the same way i feel abt all the canon ships in stranger things- the kid ships are all sweet enough, although this season mike and el have been kind of tiring for me (in part because mike did p much nothing this season except be el’s kind of dumbass boyfriend). in any event i think will and mike both could do w a return to early season protag focus and that will deserves an actual coming out and general arc in s5. also you can do better, will!

looove steve and his kids obviously- steve and dustin are a no-brainer, but i do wish the others got a couple of real moments with him too (as may be obvious bc i literally wrote that).

steve and robin are very fun. the whole older teen group was great this season, since their personalities were a nice mix- i have to say eddie and steve were really enjoyable together. their dual older brother energy to dustin was very cute. as was eddie’s flirting. or whatever that was meant to be.

on siblings- wish we got some mike and nancy interaction ever. glad lucas and erica got brief moments this season. jonathan and will bonding was very good if brief and a missed opportunity to talk abt the rainbow elephant in the room.

families except the bylers continue to be hilariously absent in the show. when can CPS be called on these people. mikes mom hugging him dramatically will not make me forget how bad of a parent they all are lol.

always enjoy the friendships between the kids- liked will and el a lot this season even tho it was tragically understated, loved mike and will seeing lucas again in hospital, and max’s memories of the group in dear billy. mike and will’s conversations were also admittedly good, despite the unrequited love of it all- they had a relationship core to the show once, so it still holds some weight. i do like lucas and max a lot but i wish lucas wasnt spent so much on Being There For Max hes forever sidelined for no good reason.

underwhelmed by the russia storyline in general- hopper grated on me in s3 and im always team joyce so kind of tired w her having to put up w him and murrays “oh you” vibes but i do enjoy their battle-readiness as a couple. didnt care much abt yuri or the other russian guy (dmitri?) bc it all felt so overdone.

fav scenes: obviously max escaping vecna to kate bush (deserving of her renaissance). the others are going to be random excerpts bc my mind is blanking. eddie telling steve “harrington will drive wontcha big boy” + steve telling nancy he has 6 kids already. the part in the finale where everyone jumps through to the upside down and then throws their weapons through too bc the montage was fun. el throwing the helicopter and then telling papa to choke. will singing neverending story. the ep 7 monologue where 1 reveals the whole plot to nancy (jamie campbell bower fun). the finale segment where everyone is kicking ass and nancy has a shotgun. the way will is like “what friends??” and el goes “stfu” in ep whatever it is. el and max’s reunion. etc.

Hi!! fellow BL overanalyzer here 🤝 I'm not watching KP anymore actually, but I'm kind of glad I found a fan who seems to be thinking critically. I just wanted to talk about how I'm sooo disappointed because I was hype for this show!! crime BL is my favorite kind of BL, but the main relationship just feels so much like the corniest, most embarrassing "bought by the Mafia CEO" wattpad fic story 😂 I dropped it on EP 4 bc I really hated how their first sexual contact was in that context, I already could not stand Kinn, and it was just HM. Ok then! the previous crime BL shows I watched all had relationships that respected the basic concept of consent even in mafia and fucked up crime settings, so I was a little ???? that a show so recent just doesn't seem to care. Apo is a great actor and all performances are very good, the production and direction of the show is impeccable, early Porsche, Tankhun, Chay and Pete(!!!) are very endearing characters, and it makes me soo sad to see what could be a well plotted story involving morally grey characters become basically just that, wattpad mafia stuff 😭 I was actually starting to think I was insane when everyone seemed to not notice how different from it's most acclaimed precursors in the crime BL subgenre this is turning out to be :') even the vegaspete stuff, which seemed like it could maybe take a more nuanced lens to a toxic relationship, feels kind of like it will just go the same path as the main couple, which just... distasteful. it was already what sealed my decision to drop because I personally am tired and not fond of stockholm syndrome-esque plots, even if they're critical and nuanced and setting-appropriate and self aware, but knowing it might go "and then they became a lovely dovey couple and all is forgiven because now they're insane together", my dear god... idk, I had high expectations, and reading about what happens to Porsche's character, esp regarding his relationship with Chay (which is what caught my interest for Porsche the most in the first ep, since I'm also an Older Brother™, also pulled apart by circumstances out of my control from a sibling I wanted to care for, rip me lmaaaaaaao), made me want to tell someone who might understand kind of how I feel abt the way it turned out 😭 wishing you a very good dissection of BL plots in the future, it's a hard job but someone has to be doing it 🙏

I mean, I did come into this how expecting this to be morally gray and knowing that there would be a deeply fucked up relationship and looking forward to the understanding that Shit Is Fucked and somehow I ended up in 2gether Mafia Edition so... yeah.

Thank you, though! Thinking about shows critically is kind of my thing, I really enjoy it and sometimes it works better than other times. This is not one of those times.

I am all in on the fucked up VegasPete, tbh. I'm hoping they can balance out the 2gether vibes of KP at this point. I never even liked 2gether so this is like double punishment for me.

It's always interesting to see the different issues people have with the show and the idea and the execution because every person's criticism and critique is going to be unique to that person and their view as well as their hopes for the show and their hopes for the characters.

But hooo yeah Porsche and Chay's relationship is definitely my biggest disappointment in the entire show.

I really wish I could/can like Princess Silver better, but so far is been hard. The thing is I miss the fantasy/xianxia elements(where's her silver hair). PS is very political so far, I really enjoy the action scenes or scenes with some sort of confusion/mess/set ups, but the plot itself haven't caught me yet, tbh I not even know what is the mainly plot about, I only get the basic of x Kingdom wants to go in war with y Kingdom, so they allied through marriage with w Kingdom and c Kingdom. But I can't care when Wu You is like pacifying the rebels cause I don't even understood what the rebeles were fighting for or against, it didn't felt important. But I think what I truly miss is a villain, we have many people with shady scams, but they don't feel like real villains to me in the sense of big bad.

The romance at first I thought they had chemistry but they fell in love too fast, I felt it was rushed out. And in the end of the day, here I'm liking the rival more than the ML. Again. Not sure if General Fu would be better to Rong Le but I definitely like him more than I like Wu You🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

About Luo Yunxi's character, my first reason for be watching this... well he is interesting, cause you don't really know what is his deal, is he good or bad, is him ambitious or being threatened. But he appears for only two, five minutes and disappear for the next 4, 5 episodes 😭😭😭

And Li DaiKun's character the second reason I'm watching this... well is he really in the drama??? Where is him???😭😭😭

I really hope it gets better, good enough for me to binge watch. I hope the villains become more clear and idk, just that things starts to move forwards, cause so far they have been very slowly too. I really like the idea(MC without memory. Athough I miss this been explored too, like she's so okay with this, sometimes I even forget that she has no memory at all) and some scenes and arcs are really interesting and really catch my attention, also I absolutely love the sisterhood that the drama give us, is pure gold, is just the overall plot that is not getting me.

On a side note... I'm also watching Love is Sweet, I'm loving it, when I'm watching I don't get bored at all, is always so funny and sweet. But I can only watch up to 3 episodes per day, otherwise I get tired of it, I guess that's why I usually watch rom com movies but not rom com shows, cause I don't have the patience in binge watch rom coms shows lol but I'm actually enjoying LS far more than PS.
