Absolutely I can!

First, foremost, and most importantly—They might be twins, but they ain’t the same person. That’s the number one lesson their parents taught them and people around them

They are rainbow babies, Linda had two miscarriages before them. She and Wally always say “You each came down alone, then went back for the other.”

Irey was always the bigger twin….until puberty made her brother 6’2 and kept her at 5’4

Milagro was doing a fashion shoot for a styling class and needed some models for her “Noir” shoot. Jai and Irey were more than happy to help.

Not show are Lian and Damian choking on their lunch when the twins walked in after the shoot

I fully believe that Omega has needed a distraction or diversion for a mission, and the twins just started FIGHTING. In that way only siblings can, y’know?

Both deal with eating disorders—Irey from an abusive ex, Jai from his depression—but that’s what Lian and Mar’i are there for. Lian will refuse to eat until Jai does, and Mar’i offers some of her favorite snacks to Irey.

On really bad days of his depression, ireys made him look at her and said “You’re not leaving me here alone.”

Are they both the “sunshine’s” in their relationships? Absolutely. But make no mistake. They are the scary ones of the relationships.

90% of the time, they are definitely their father’s children, goofy, a love of learning, clumsy. But make no mistake, that other 10%, they are their mother’s son and daughter. They have torn egotistical heroes and Villians down with words alone. Their dad might be the Flash, but their mother is THE Linda Park and you will put respect in the name

Essentially, they are truly—Fuck around, find out.

They’re also super fucking loyal. Like someone called Mar’i “r*tared” once. When they could hear. Irey had them against the wall, her forearm against their throat, while Jai threatened them

On the flip side, they are super proud of their Korean Heritage. They both chose to learn the language as part of the “multilingual” aspect of their hero training (and even before). They blast K-pop and k-rock. They have recreated K-Drama scenes for fun, to the amusement of their teammates. They both get Hanboks to wear when they decide to go to Korea for a weekend trip. They cook as many meals as their mom remembers growing up with. They always keep Kimchi and gochujang in the Omega fridge, as well as all the things to make Kimbap, a comfort snack for bad days

Jai loves the hat, thank you very much

They look up to Donny and Dawn more than can be put into words. Like they’re second cousins once removed, but if you ask them, that’s their big brother and sister. They love how happy Mel makes Donny and just want the best for both them

Irey points out she’s only kissed one person on the team, which Jai says “It was a mission, but colin is a great kisser!”

Irey’s straight, but Jai is like….on super thin ice sometimes

The lab at the tower might be a public space, but that’s their lab. They know the policy. But that’s just the facts

They both learned how to use their partners weapons. Irey actually managed to use a fight against one of the Alpha guys during a sparring match. Jai was laughing so hard he was on the ground

Asha, Irey and Damian’s daughter, adores her “Unca Jai-Jai”

They like to go to science expos and comic cons together

Irey is a biter when it comes to fist fights and Jai swears he has scars.

They both cried for days when Jay and Joan Garret died

Linda died two weeks after Luke, Jai and Lian’s son, was born. She’d been diagnosed with late stage lung cancer after Lian found out she was pregnant. She decided against treatment and spent that last year making as many memories with her children and grandchildren as she could.

Jai and Irey were with Omega when they got the news. They both fell to their knees and were sobbing and screaming for her.

They do think they would have made it through that time without their friends, especially Mar’i and Lian.

Harper has ideas, Butch has thoughts.

“What about a tattoo?” Harper smiled cheekily, leaning next to him and grabbing his wrist. She straightened out his arm like she was ready to take a pen to his skin immediately but drew it with her finger instead. “Y’know, a tunnel snake just wrapping around right here. Up from the elbow, all the way around your biceps, and head right on the shoulder, fangs bared.”

Butch’s skin tingled at the touch, and his blood rushed in two directions at once. He didn’t know how to respond. Then, the moment passed, and Harper pulled away, sliding off the sofa to get them each a drink, calling to Charon that dinner would be ready soon.

That night at Gob’s, Butch dreamed of Harper, her auburn hair splayed out on one of those off-colored pillows, her hands running down his skin, that tingle all over. He woke up right before the sun rose with a whole new problem, his heart beating too fast, just feeling too hot, just too overwhelmed.

“Fuck,” he said, only for someone next to his room to hit the metal sheet wall and tell him to keep it down.

Pfft. I can't believe Nyla's ex got all high and mighty and broke up with his fiancée because she didn't tell him about her past and he can't be with another woman who lies to him. Excuse me mister, did you not recently sleep with your ex-wife and decide to just hold on to that lit bit of information because it was "in the past"? And blaming Nyla as the cause of their daughter's heartbreak? He needs to get real and off his high horse, what an ass.

Happy Wednesday amazing fandom. So Next ep (4x22) will be on Friday this week. So I'll post Sunday for 5x01. Didn't want to post my usual next Monday on Christmas just as an FYI. Let's get started. Ahhh we only have 2 left in this season. Last two are huge. This one is more geared towards Lucy and her feelings. With Ashley thrown in the mix. Lucy’s feelings for Tim that are getting harder to conceal by the day. This is a good one heavy content after such low one for last two. So let’s get going.

4x21 Mother’s Day

We start off with problem number one. I mean Chris. Lucy telling him it’s a hard pass on meeting his parents. Not just no. 'HARD PASS' Damn Lucy straight up shutting his ass down. Her commitment issues are glaring in this scene. You can tell by her body language alone. Look at how uncomfortable she is as they’re talking about this subject. Touching the back of her neck. Her hand lingering near her tattoo. She is not feeling this conversation one bit.

To her Chris isn’t serious enough to be even remotely near that. Also she doesn't care enough either. Never close to that kind of commitment. Never was… i.e. 5x08 and all that. He is the definition of a convenience relationship. Also the man is blind when it comes to reading her properly. She says no and he pushes it. Then when he doesn’t get what he wants basically scolds her for it. Her face when he says ‘I figured you’d say that.’ Like why you asking then mofo? He gets under my skin like no other…

This next portion is jealously personified oh my lord. Mostly on Lucy’s part. Clown and Lucy walk up to Tim/Ashley discussing a trip. Lucy immediately needing to know if they’re planning a vacation. Chris being clued in for once is shocked she’s asking about it. Look at the man's eyebrows in the first gif. They say yes Hawaii. Chris goes right back to being the clueless idiot. He says he loves Hawaii but never been.... Why do you even speak man? Useless info from a useless human being.

Ashley starts spouting on about beaches and crap no one cares about tbh ha Lucy is not really listening anyways. You can tell she’s tuned out and is in analysis mode. Melissa is conveying so much with just her eyes in that second gif. She is jelly belly. Look at her watching them and trying to digest this moment. Her jealously starts here and doesn’t end till we reach Tim’s prank.

Chris tells her to call him if she changes her mind. Lucy just wards him off and says she won’t. No means no schmuck. Tim tries to ask her about that comment and Lucy deflects. She doesn’t care about Chris’s parents. Her one and only focus is about him. Needing to know whose idea it was for Hawaii? Tim being clueless to her inquiry just says mine I guess why? Lucy doesn’t get to finish her thought because they run into Harper.

Lucy mentions she thought she had the day off? Nyla says she did but Donovan is being a prick about the holiday. That he took Lila to see his mom for Mother’s Day. All the way in Santa Barbara. Leaving Nyla childless for Mother’s Day. Doing it as revenge. What a dick. Lucy says that’s really cruel even for him. Harper mentions James is taking his boys to see his ex-wife cause he’s a decent human being LOL

That at least she’s being paid time and a half to plot her revenge. Tim having slight respectful fear of her says he can wait to see what she comes up with haha Lucy joining him saying they should sell tickets. Their faces in those gifs are primo. I also love their shared looks as they leave. Damn they’re cute together. The most married looks as they’re leaving I cannot stand it. Knowing not to mess with Nyla today of all days. Best they can do is just get the hell out of there ha

We rejoin them in the shop. We watch Lucy struggle with wanting to get her thoughts out. You can tell she is nervous and scared of the answer she might get. Watching her body language alone during this scene is so telling. It's showing she is dying inside. That this is eating at her so much. Not once has Lucy ever thought Ashley was the right one for him. Now there is this potential he could be thinking about proposing to her... and it's making her sick to her stomach.

She is trying to contain her meltdown about this as best she can. Also like to note while Lucy builds up her courage in the first gif Tim is not stressed whatsoever. LOL Just thinking it's a normal day as they get out on the road. Living his best life while Lucy has her internal battle in the first gif. Lucy finally gets the guts to ask the question burning a hole in her stomach.

One that is making her nauseous. If he’s proposing to Ashley? She says it all high pitched. Clearly so very nervous of his potential answer. Tim seems blind sided by the question. The way he raises his eyebrows kills me. Saying no... They’ve only been dating a few months. Interesting you date Lucy for a few weeks and give up your career path to stay near her…Almost like she isn’t the one but we’ll get there haha

Lucy tells Tim he needs to be careful of the signals he’s sending. He asks her what she means? What kind of signals? She says the kind that makes her get a manicure. So that she can send pictures of a ring to all her friends. The way his eyes bug out in horror. Yeah there’s a man ready for the altar… The thought of marrying Ashley putting him in an absolute panic. That’s your soulmate right there Tim…better lock that down....They get interrupted by dispatch before they can continue. Lucy is enjoying his panic about it though. To her that means that’s not where they’re headed. So for now her freakout simmers down from a boil.

They return to the station to sync up with Angela. Their earlier call is linked to her situation from this morning. She was at a Mother’s Day brunch with Patrice and they got held up at gun point. These punks stole her Mother’s Day gift and terrified her MIL. Harper comes in like a bat out of hell. It’s pretty hilarious tbh. I love how Tim and Lucy just stand there as they plot Donovan’s demise. Her deserves it.

Talking about curses and such. They’re so chaotic together and it makes me so happy. I always enjoy their scenes though. Tim saying they should leave before become accessories. heh I love him being low key scared of Angela it’s the best. Also could they be any closer to each other as they leave? It’s like you guys want me to point this stuff out haha

Lucy is visiting with Patrice and she’s giving her solid mom advice. I love it so much. Saying her mom has to be the one to make the amends not her. Lucy seems so grateful for the advice. It's a super sweet mini moment. Tim walks in complaining about hotel prices. Lucy comes over and he has her look at his phone. (not a wifey thing to do at all...)Then tells him that’s not a bad deal. That if he wants cheaper he's gonna have to do Honolulu motel 6 LOL How romantic.... Patrice says Oh, Going to Hawaii? Congrats on his engagement.

Lucy is loving being right. She is beaming with smugness really. Saying ‘Ah told you!’ Tim tells her he’s not getting engaged. He’s so adamant about it. Patrice asks if his GF knows that? They have serious old married couple vibes in this scene. Especially when Patrice asks if he’s really this clueless? Her reply is absolute gold. Flirting with him right in front of Wesley’s mom LOL

I’m sure she’s thinking why aren’t these two together? The chemistry from their banter alone is enough to think that. He doesn’t even fight her just sighs. Accepting his fate with her in these situations. God they’re so married and adorable I cannot stand it. Soulmate material right here folks. Front and center. Lucy smiling as he walks away. She loves her goober so very much. Splashed all over her face.

Angela gives them an update on their crime spree couple. Saying their next target was a bridal shop. Lucy makes a pot shot at Tim. Angela perks right up and is confused as hell. Tim wards Lucy off and says to ignore her. We watch Lucy get agitated. The whole idea of Tim getting engaged is not sitting well with her in the slightest.

Now this is what I find the most interesting about this scene. After Tim says that Angela isn’t watching Tim’s reaction. She’s watching Lucy’s. Look at how she gauges Lucy. Can see she is deeply irritated. Her Chenford radar going off. She’s intuitive af I mean she’s a detective she has to be but still LOL She is reading what Lucy is projecting in this moment and is surprised Tim isn’t….

When they’re back in the shop Lucy continues to push her luck with this subject. Poking the bear just a little bit more. Saying the website she’s on says Hawaii is the #1 place to get married. Tim retorting back there’s no way she thinks he’s proposing. Lucy presses on because she can’t help herself. Say he’s of a certain age LOL His reaction to that is too damn funny. Like excuse me love?

Lucy adds in that Ashley is in her prime. That on paper this makes sense. That it’s a no brainer really. (Love the little tongue flick in that gif btw. Yum.) It’s coming off as teasing when Lucy low key needs to know. She has to have answers to all this. Also she is in quite the panic. Not hiding it well at all in order to get them. Lucy puts the final nail in the coffin of her anxiety with her next question. Asking if he can see himself married to her?

It’s the hesitation that says everything to me. He takes a few beats before replying. Lucy is anxiously awaiting his reply. Fidgeting with her phone as the silence stretches. Hoping its more of the 'No' he was giving her earlier. He finally answers like it’s a business transaction. Not someone he loves...Saying yeah he can. Lying liar who lies Timothy Bradford. SMH. This response it’s like wanting a specific meal and the restaurant is out. So they offer you something of lesser value. You’re hungry so you go with it. That’s Ashley. She is the lesser value of Lucy. Tim knows it. So he is settling with this relationship.

Why you ask? Because it’s safe and comfortable. Just like Lucy is with Chris. Also in the back of his head he knows he can never be with Lucy like that. Or so he thinks. He too felt that spark in 4x01 too. Has also been suppressing those thoughts all season. So what helps? A distraction. I.e. Ashley. I looked up settling just to have a good definition. "Settling isn't a choice people happily make for themselves. Often, people settle out of fear. It could be the fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, or even fear of rejection, and, in light of that, settling can feel like the safest choice." Definition of his relationship with Ashley especially going forward after this ep.

He sounds so unconvincing I don’t know Tim even believed what he just said. What Tim is doing here the epitome of settling at this point with Ashley. I don’t think one bit he actually wants to marry her. So much as he needs the companionship. Something he thought he could live without before Lucy. Then she brought Rachel into his life. He realized he could do this again. That he even missed it. So he may put off this lone wolf vibe but our boy just wants to be loved. So he will settle for any love he can get even if it’s not right for him. Which hurts my heart on a deep level.

We shoot back to Lucy. His reaction seems meh but hers is another story. She very much believes him and looks devastated. This episode is her epiphany episode IMO. Where all these feelings she felt launch for Tim during the 4x01 hug are bubbling up to the surface. She's been trying all season to tamp it down. To push it away thinking if she did it would just go away. Not how feelings work my friend.

I saw the funniest tag(s) for this set when I was looking for gifs. Couple people used it actually. Said it felt like Lucy was playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes LOL That is this scene. She went hunting for answers and only came up with heartbreak and sadness. Her plan was to validate her feelings about this whole thing. All it did was blow up in her face. She’s teased him the entire episode. She inadvertently made him seriously think about this.

She then got an answer she did not want… (none of us did) This is the absolute opposite of how she was with Rachel. She truly wanted Tim to be happy with her. News like this would’ve made her happy back in S2. Because Rachel was Lucy 2.0. Sad fact is Ashley is no where near right for Tim and she knows it. Also so much as transpired between them since S2. Her feelings being one of them. That makes this reaction she is having even more intense.

If Tim looked over he would’ve seen the devastation. It’s the most transparent she’s been all season long. Lucy has been a clear glass window this entire season with him. Yet this moment stands out as her most telling IMO. Lucy asked what she was scared to really get an answer for. Then got back a reply she was dreading. The last one above gets me the most. Melissa I commend you for it. So much being expressed here.

The way she is processing what’s he’s told her. The emotions coursing through her body. The twitch of her mouth trying to keep herself in check. Looks like she wants to scream or cry or possibly both. Shake Tim and say WTF are you thinking? Most of all she is just hurt. Not taking this kind of info in stride and realizing she is not. Like that dog with the house on fire sitting there with his coffee. ‘This is fine….’ I feel like sums up her emotions for this inquiry she made.

These are just great action shots of our couple in the field. They catch up to the crime spree couple. They're getting married in this really pretty church. Hijacked someone's wedding. Look how close they are as they fire back. Could take his own position but no lets share cover hehe I love the unnecessary touching she does on her way to catch the wife. It wasn’t necessary to touch him Lucy. Yet I’m here for it 100 %. That building is so beautiful BTW What a lovely place to get married. I hope whenever they get married someplace pretty like this. Or maybe won't be a church at all. Idc where as long as they're married ha

Ashley is waiting for him outside the station after his shift. She asks how his day was? He says good but Lucy was particularly annoying today. Please Timothy. Like you didn’t enjoy all of that attention from her. Do like Ashley defending Lucy and saying 'I'm sure that's not true.' Tim notices her new nail color and mentions it. Ashley says yeah she just got them done. The panic on this man’s face. LMFAO You’re a liar sir about wanting to marry her. 'Yeah I can' my ass.

Tim tells her he needs to clear the air about something. That there was a reason Lucy was so annoying today. She was convinced taking her to Hawaii meant a proposal. He panics some more and says 'You don’t think that right? Cause I’m not... 'Crashing and burning you handsome fool. She puts a finger to his lips and tells him to shush. That this isn’t what she was expecting at all.

That if he had she would’ve just said no… because she has no interest in being married ever. That she doesn’t want kids either. She's not wired that way. Now to me this should’ve been the end of the relationship for Tim. These are all things Tim wants out of a relationship. She is basically telling him exactly what she wants out of this. What she doesn’t want as well. She’s being honest and upfront. It’s up to Tim to tell her he wants those things out of a relationship. That this isn't going to work based on that.

He wants marriage and kids. I’m not an Ashley fan don’t get me wrong. I know the fandom didn’t like her. I sure wasn’t pleased with her being around. But she tells him right here and now she doesn’t want marriage. Not only that she doesn’t want kids. I don’t think that makes her selfish. It just makes her incompatible with Tim. It's actually self inflicted wound for Tim to continue dating her. Knowing he wants those things. She is a woman who knows what she doesn’t want and is telling him as such. That's what you do when you're dating someone. So you see if your values and life goals align. Their's very much don't.

I do think this moment is on Tim 100 %. We’ve seen him have communication problems in past relationships. Not telling his former SO's exactly how he is feeling. This relationship is extended due to lack of communication in this moment. Look at this man. He is deflated she doesn’t want these things. His response and body language is screaming disappointment. Unfortunately Ashley fails to read this. He should’ve told her he wants all those things.

Sadly he doesn't... the reality is he’s settling as I stated before. He is faking it with her. Saying that this is ok with him. It’s one thing not to be ready to marry someone. It’s another to realize this relationship has no future for him. He doesn’t want to be alone. This is a safe enough relationship to commit to so he does. Even if it’s stealing all his dreams away from him. Which makes me so sad for him. Because he thinks this is it for him. Which is why S5 is huge for him. But I'll gush about that when we get there. You know I love my Tim but staying in his relationship and having it last longer is on him. Instead of walking away because they aren't right for each other.

Tim sees Lucy is watching and is a little shit. He asks Ashley if she’ll do him a favor? First off kudos to Melissa once again for conveying so very much with just a look. Tim is making sure he’s looking over at her as he ‘proposes.’ If you look at his face you can see his eyes flit over to her. Pranking is their love language. But if Tim had looked over after he 'proposed' he would see a heart breaking. I think it’s here Lucy is realizing her feelings for Tim.

Because she is reacting like someone who is in love. Lucy is now heartbroken thinking Tim is getting married. Her person is getting married. To the wrong person. She is beyond crushed really. If you looked up devastated in the dictionary that gif should be there. Lucy is so gone for him at this point and its hitting her like a ton of bricks. I mean her behavior this entire episode reflects that. This is a painful epiphany for her.

It was something that was on a low simmer in the back of her brain all season. Now its been pulled to the forefront and is boiling over. I think she is having a million thoughts racing through her mind right now. That he is far more than just her friend and co-worker. He is her best friend and she's in love with him. That is the face of someone who is crushed her person is going to marry someone else. Be bound to Ashley. When she is the right person for him not her.

Chris comes up babbling about his mom and Lucy has checked out. She is there in body but her mind is outside with Tim. In the first gif we can see her trying to reset. To care that her current BF is in front of her. That she isn't having a emotional spiral about her best friend getting married. She’s scrambling to assemble her thoughts and emotions. Lucy is so flustered and trying to give a crap about Chris's existence. She’s so visibly upset and Chris once again doesn’t read her well.

It’s then she gets Tim’s text we see relief flood over her. Then instant anger as Tim waves at her as they leave. If I was Ashley I would be questioning why my boyfriend wanted to trick his ‘platonic aide’ into thinking they’re engaged…but ok. She ignores Chris further and goes to hunt down Angela to curse Tim LOL Once again how Chris and Ashley didn’t see how in love these two idiots were I’ll never know. Especially Chris my god. Lucy was so very transparent this entire season with Tim.

Also she just straight ignored you son. So focused on wringing Tim’s neck after upsetting her. But sure man bring up your parents she didn’t want to meet LOL Not once did she acknowledge his conversation. Her only goal getting back at Tim. Leaving Chris just standing there like clueless dope he is.... Such good episode though. Especially for Lucy. This is her 'Uh oh epiphany moment.' about her feelings for Tim. All came to a head when she thought he was getting married. So good.

Task Force What? An Incomplete (Yet Still Very Long) Guide to Some of the DCU’s Government Groups [Part 2]

Welcome back to my writeup on 13 of the DCU's government organizations. Recognizing that everything in Part 1 was a ton of information to parse through, here’s a rough timeline of some of the groups’ movements and reorganizations. 1940s-1980s

During WWII, Squadron S earns the nickname “The Suicide Squad” due to its high morality rate. Rick Flag Sr. is brought in to turn the squadron around, eventually making it a highly decorated and effective unit.

Senator McCarthy tries to force the Justice Society of America to unmask. They refuse, instead choosing to go into hiding.

Without the Justice Society to protect the U.S. from “extraordinary” threats, the President authorizes the creation of Task Force X. This group consisted of two wings: Argent and The Suicide Squad.

Rick Flag Sr. is killed in action during a Suicide Squad mission. This version of the Squad is disbanded.

Control, the leader of Argent, kills someone involved in JFK’s assassination. He subsequently directs Argent to go underground.

A new version of the Suicide Squad is formed, led by Rick Flag Jr. This version disbands after a mission in Cambodia. Flag’s supervisor reveals that the Squad was ultimately doomed anyway due to budget cuts.

At some point during the Cold War, Spyral is formed by the U.N., led by Otto Netz.

1980s-2000s

Amanda Waller presents her plan to reactivate Task Force X. This new Suicide Squad will use supervillains for high risk, covert missions. The Agency will be brought into Task Force X and subsequently reorganized as Checkmate, though Project: Peacemaker remains independent.

Rick Flag Jr. is made field leader of the Suicide Squad. Ben Turner, seeking atonement, becomes his second in command.

Sarge Steel is officially the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Harry Stein is made King of Checkmate.

Amanda Waller and her Suicide Squad discover the remenants of Argent. With the majority of its members gone, Argent is officially declared to be disbanded.

The Janus Directive occurs. Massive reorganizations happen.

Task Force X is dissolved as an umbrella organization.

Amanda Waller is left in charge of the Suicide Squad.

Harry Stein remains as King of Checkmate, but they are forced to relocate. Project Peacemaker is incorporated into Checkmate.

Sarge Steel is made the Director of Metahuman Affairs, and is the direct supervisor for all other metahuman related agencies. He continues to oversee the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Amanda Waller disbands her Suicide Squad.

After the death of Superman, Project Cadmus tries to clone him. This results in the creation of Superboy.

Project Cadmus fires “mad scientist” Dabney Donovan.

A “clone plague” begins to affect Project Cadmus creations. This is revealed to be the creation of Dabney Donovan, who kills Paul Westfield.

Mickey Cannon becomes the new head of Project Cadmus. He keeps Dabney Donovan as an imprisoned scientific advisor and brings in geneticist Serling Roquette.

Harry Stein resigns as King of Checkmate. Phil Kramer and Kalia Cambell are made King and Queen, respectively.

Roy Harper leaves the CBI.

Mr. Bones is made the Director of the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Cameron Chase joins the Department of Extranormal Operations.

The Department of Extranormal Operations subcontracts A.P.E.S members Donald Fite and Ishido Maad for a recovery mission.

Lex Luthor becomes president.

Amanda Waller replaces Sarge Steel as Secretary of Metahuman Affairs in the Luthor Administration.

Knightwatch, a more militaristic branch of the Department of Extranormal Operations, protects the U.S. President from metahuman threats.

Director Bones manipulates the Justice Society into going against Kobra on the DEO’s behalf. This is not well received by the JSA.

Lex Luthor starts the Human Defense Corps to try to build a non-metahuman response team to extraordinary threats.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is absorbed into the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Sarge Steel becomes the head of the Department of Metahuman Affairs, a subdivision of the DEO.

Sasha Bordeaux is recruited into Checkmate by Jessica Midnight.

David Said is promoted to King

Helena Bertinelli is blackmailed by David Said into accepting a position as a Queen in Checkmate.

Lex Luthor leaves the White House. Amanda Waller subsequently leaves her position as Secretary for Metahuman Affairs.

Director Bones and Cameron Chase recruit Kate Spencer, the Manhunter, to work for the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Maxwell Lord becomes Black King of Checkmate.

Infinite Crisis happens.

Maxwell Lord kills Ted Kord once Kord uncovers Lord’s plot to use Checkmate against metahumans.

Sasha Bordeaux sends Batman evidence of Kord’s death, leading Lord to activate the OMACs to try to exterminate all Checkmate agents and metahumans on Earth.

Maxwell Lord is killed by Wonder Woman.

One Year Later

After Checkmate is rechartered as a U.N. organization, Amanda Waller is made White Queen. Due to her involvement in the Luthor White House, the U.N. only agrees to let Waller into Checkmate if she does not run operations. This means she cannot run any operations. The other initial leaders of this new Checkmate are Sasha Bordeaux, Alan Scott, and Taleb Beni Khalid.

Wonder Woman joins the Department of Metahuman Affairs in her new identity as Diana Prince.

Alan Scott resigns from Checkmate, tapping his Bishop–Michael Holt–to be the new White King.

Despite being prohibited from running operations, Amanda Waller reactivates a Suicide Squad and begins Operation: Salvation Run.

Once other Checkmate officials find out what Amanda Waller is up to, she is forced to resign from Checkmate. However, by that point, most supervillains had been deported via Operation: Salvation Run.

Squad K is developed out of the Human Defense Corps to specifically deal with Kryptonian threats.

After the events of Brightest Day, Maxwell Lord returns to life. He erases most of the world’s memory of him and begins a discrediting campaign against Checkmate in an attempt to regain power.

Talia al Ghul creates the Leviathan Organization. She frees Otto Netz from his imprisonment so that he can assist Leviathan.

Batman Incorporated begins to move against Leviathan, clearing the organization out of St. Hadrian’s Finishing School for Girls.

Damian Wayne kills Otto Netz to save Batman from a trap.

The New 52 Happens

Spyral takes control of St. Hadrian’s

Katherine Webb Kane reveals that she faked her death to lead Spyral in secret.

A.R.G.U.S. is founded to support metahumans at the federal level.

Dick Grayson is unmasked as Nightwing, and is recruited by Helena Bertinelli to be an agent of Spyral.

Bertinelli and Grayson leave Spyral. Tiger becomes the new Patron of Spyral.

in follow up to my timeline (for those who haven't seen it / want to reference: https://www.tumblr.com/hartz-penny/705740236884508672/after-celinas-its-2022-comment-in-510-i), i wanted to jot down some info on the relationships in relation to it!

WOPEZ:

Met in 1.10 "Flesh and Blood" and agree to go out by the end of the episode, by my timeline (1.01 being ~ March 2019 and 1.20 being 6 months later aka ~ September 2019), let's say this is June 2019 since its half way through the season

They break up briefly between 1.12 and are back together by 1.18, they fight in 1.20 but are firmly together by episode's end, again per my timeline this is approx. Sept 2019

They have moved in together as of 2.01 which is still ~ Sept 2019

Wesley is stabbed in 2.06 "Fallout" which we'll assume is Oct / Nov 2019

Wesley proposes - which Angela accepts - in 2.16 "The Overnight", as this is after DOD (09Dec2019) but before 2.20 (the rookies' "one month push") we can guess this is Jan or Feb 2020; they have been together for about 7-8 months total (including their breakup)

Wesley discovers Angela is pregnant in 3.01 "Consequences" by finding her pregnancy test, I'm going to assume Angela was between 3-7 weeks pregnant - wide range I know but I can't imagine her being any more far along than that and *not* have taken a test prior - here which is approx March 2020

Season 3 takes place over the course of two months since it begins right when the "one month push" begins, Lucy and Jackson graduate to P2 in 3.14 and Nolan becomes a P2 in 4.01 after completing his one month extension

This would mean that Wopez's first attempt at a wedding in 3.14 takes place in May 2020, they have been together for about 11 months; Angela is also kidnapped by La Fiera in this episode

Jackson "Jack" Lopex-Evers is born after the 3 month time jump that happens at the end of 4.01, putting his DOB in approx. Aug 2020

Wopez get married offscreen between 4.01 and 4.02 - which would still be Aug 2020, they have been together for just over a year

5.10 is apparently "2022" which per my timeline is Jan 2022

TL;DR Wopez has been together for 2 and a half years as of 5.10

HARRAY / JYLA (Nyla x James):

Met in 3.02 "In Justice" which takes place in approx March 2020

Had their sparring class in 3.11 "New Blood" which we'll say is when they first get involved, this in approx. April 2020

Nyla is dating both James and that hot dad in 4.03 "In The Line of Fire" and by the end of the episode is dating just James, this is approx. Sep 2020

Nyla sleeps with Donovan in 4.05 "A.C.H" (31Oct2020)

In 4.11 "End Game", Nyla discovers she is 6 weeks pregnant - I assume this to be mid-Dec 2020 - at this point Nyla and James have been dating for 8 months, exclusive for 3 months

Nyla and James get married in 4.18 "Backstabbers" - approx. Apr 2021; they have been dating 12 months, together exclusively for 7 months

Leah Harper-Murray is born in 5.02 "Labor Day" which takes place in ~ Jun / Jul 2021

As of 5.10 "The List", Leah is 5 months old and per Celina it is "2022", most likely January

TL;DR Jyla has been together for a year and a half as of 5.10

I'm not doing John and Bailey because I do not care about them.

CHENFORD:

1.01 "Pilot" - estimated Mar 2019 per my timeline, "Bradford, you get our hotshot", Tim is assigned Lucy as his rookie

Tim & Isabel

In 1.01 it's revealed that Tim hasn't seen Isabel in a year

Tim and Isabel met as rookies, and Lucy states in 2.08 "Clean Cut" that Tim is a 12-year veteran; as S2 takes place from month 6 to month 12 of Lucy's rookie year, we can estimate that Tim and Isabel were together for about 11 years at the time of their divorce, if 2.08 takes place in Oct / Nov 2019 (it occurs between 2.01 which is approx. Sep 2019 and 2.11 which is established 09Dec2019), Tim and Isabel met (and were rookies in) 2007

We don't know what year Tim and Isabel were married

Based on the LAPD guidelines, rookies become P2s after their 13-month probationary period, become P3s after 3 years as a P2 - based on this Tim and Isabel would've reached this point in 2011

I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe to test out of P3, you need to have put in 1 year, and since Isabel was a UC in Narcotics, we can assume she was a Detective I, and let's say it took her 3-4 years to get there from P3 since Armstrong said he was the fastest to get to detective and it took him 4 years (I'm assuming he meant from P2 to Detective I) bringing us to 2014-2015

Let's say Isabel started the addiction spiral around 2016-2017 since Tim ignored it for a while at first and she was probably able to hide it for a bit before it got to the point where Tim was starting to pick up and thought she was having an affair and that Isabel left around late 2017 / early 2018 to match the "I haven't seen her in a year" of 1.01

Isabel is shot in the head in 1.08 "Time of Death" by Vance

Tim and Isabel agree to divorce in 1.12 "Heartbreak" which apparently is Valentine's Day but I choose to ignore bc Feb 2019 ruins my entire timeline and doesn't make sense with any other established date so we're going to say that its 3-4 months into Lucy's rookie year and is May-June 2019 (we don't know when the divorce is finalized specifically but Lucy says "since the divorce" in 2.03 "The Bet", which is approx. Sep / Oct 2019)

Lucy and Nolan 🤮

Are "together" as of 1.01, and have been dating / sleeping together / literally doing the nasty bc seriously I hate them together so much since the academy

Based on how casual they're both treating it, lets say its been going on for 3 months as of 1.01

They break up in 1.04 "The Switch", sleep together again in 1.08 "Time of Death" and end it for good (thank GOD) in 1.09 "Standoff" - this is approx. April / May 2019, putting their entire length of relationship at 6 months

Tim and Rachel

Set up on a date by Lucy in 2.03 "The Bet" - approx. Sept / Oct 2019

Tim considers moving to NYC with Rachel in 2.19 "The Q Word" but ultimately does not, they do not break up - approx. Mar 2020

Tim and Rachel break up offscreen at some point in S3, definitely before Angela's wedding when Tim openly checks Lucy out and S3 is 2 months long, so the max length of Tim & Rachel's relationship is 7 months

Lucy and Emmett

Meet in 2.17 "Control" and start dating despite Tim's belief that Lucy can do better - approx. Feb / Mar 2020

Break up in 3.08 "Bad Blood", as this is right before Lucy's final shift as a rookie (which is approx. Apr 2020), we'll say that they break up in Mar / Apr 2020; their relationship is about 2 months long

Tim and Ashley

Meet in 4.06 "Poetic Justice" and begin officially dating between here and 4.08 "Hit and Run" as Tim tells Genny that he is not single - approx. Nov 2020

Are planning a trip to Hawaii in 4.21 "Mother's Day" in which Lucy initially assumes Tim is going to propose, Tim & Ashley have been together for about 6 months at this point as it is May 2021; Tim finds out Ashley does not want marriage or children - a thing he very much does want - and for some reason stays in this "magic" relationship (srsly Timothy???)

Finally break up in 5.05 "The Fugitive" literally 10 seconds after Tim gets out of SPINAL SURGERY because Ashley remembered that Tim is a cop and being a cop is dangerous and I know Tim is pretty but like what did you expect? Just because he was telling your dad to retire meant he secretly wanted to too? This is late October 2021 as its right before 5.06 which is confirmed Halloween

Lucy and Chris

Meet in 4.10 "Heart Beat" and they are not fans of each other

Chris calls Lucy his girlfriend in 4.15 "Hit List", Lucy defines Chris as her "work in progress" - approx. Mar 2021

It's the end of the world (as we know it)

An AU in which Captain Anderson doesn't die. On the day of the missile threat, she's there to talk Nyla through her decision to pick up Lyla from school.

Captain Zoe Anderson was just minutes away from the start of a three-day weekend. A rarity in her line of work and something she had been looking forward to for weeks. With her laptop pulled up, scouring the internet, she was deep in thought over plans when a knock on the door brought her back to reality. She raised her head to see Grey standing in the doorway.

“Captain, sorry to bother you. Do you have a moment?” He asked.

“Wade, of course. Please, come in.” She replied, closing her laptop and gesturing him into her office.

The sergeant made his way in and sat down at the chair in front of her desk.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?” She inquired.

“Uh, well, respectfully, I have some questions about our newest training officer.”

His hand brushed against his forehead, and he shifted in the chair. Zoe could tell he was nervous. A smirk crept across her face, knowing where the conversation was headed.

“Questions? Or concerns?”

Grey sighed at the remark. “Look, I trust your judgment, I do. I’m not coming in here trying to step on any toes or question your decisions. But yes, I can’t help but have a few concerns with her. I mean, who is this woman? She’s been deep into UC work for the past four years. Her last op was 10 months long. Drug dealers, pedophiles, murderers. She’s taken on some heavy hitters and gone deep into the belly of the beast. And then what, she just woke up one morning and decided to leave it all behind to become a trainer officer at Midwilshire?”

The young captain folded her arms and leaned back in her chair as she stated back at him.

“Yes, I imagine she did. Almost like when Officer Nolan seemingly woke up one morning after his divorce and decided to become a Rookie at Midwilshire. If you ask me, that seems to be working out fairly well for him.

“Captain,” Grey scoffed. “This isn’t the same. And Nolan still hasn’t made it through his probationary year yet. So you’ll forgive me for not being quick to call him a success story just yet. I’m just trying to understand what she’s doing here.”

“I guess you’ll have to ask her that yourself, Wade. And if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get an answer. Let me know how it works out. In the meantime, I read her file, reviewed her history, and I fought for her to be here. I believe she’ll be an asset to this department. Regardless of why she came here in the first place.”

Sergeant Grey, realizing the conversation had come to an end, rose from his seat and extended his hand to shake Anderson’s.

“I hope you’re right, ma’am.”

Nyla Harper was on auto pilot. Oblivious to the honking of horns, screaming voices, and the chaos surrounding her, she sped through traffic, not even bothering to check her speedometer.

She jabbed her phone again, redialing Donovan’s phone for the fifth time with shaky hands as her heart raced.

“Hi, you’ve reached Donovan Town. I’m sorry I can’t get to the phone right now, but please lea—”

“DAMNIT!!” She screamed out as her hand slammed against the steering wheel.

“Ok, ok, ok. It’s okay, you’re almost there, you’re almost there.” Tears streamed down her face as she continued to race through traffic and repeated the mantra to herself, trying in vain to remain calm and focus on the goal. Getting Lyla and finding shelter.

Nyla knew what she was about to do was wrong. Driving like a bat out of hell and weaving through lanes, she realistically knew that she did not have custody and did not have the right to take her child without running it by Donovan first.

But…The world. The world was possibly ending, and Donovan wasn’t answering his phone and if these were truly her last hours on earth, she was damn well going to spend them holding her daughter and comforting her the best way she possibly could.

Her car came to a screeching halt in front of the elementary school and without even thinking, she grabbed her purse and began to exit the car before realizing she hadn’t even put the car in park. The car began to roll slightly as her brain kicked back in and she immediately returned her foot to the brake and put the car in park. Grabbing her keys out of the ignition, she slammed the door and began to run.

The elementary school, much like the roads, was absolute chaos. Adults and kids alike were running, cell phones were going off every second, and the honking of horns could still be heard in the distance.

Running into the building, Nyla tried to collect her thoughts and herself, knowing she had to put on a brave face for Lyla.

“Straight down, take a right, second door on the left.” She whispered to herself. Her pace faltered slightly as she approached the door, not wanting to come rushing in, frenzied, in a panic. She took a final breath, trying once more to collect herself before entering.

“Mommy!!”

Lyla shot up from her desk at the sight of her mother and went running into her arms. Nyla breathed easy for the first time since the missile threat had been announced. She wrapped her arms around her daughter, hugging her back tightly and feeling so grateful to have her in her arms in that moment.

“Mommy, what are you doing here?” Lyla asked. “Everyone’s going home early. What’s happening?”

The piercing blue eyes of her young daughter stared up at her, looking for answers, looking for comfort.

“I know baby. It’s a little bit of a different day. It’s just a drill. I know it must seem really scary right now, but we’re okay, okay? I’m here, and we’re going to find daddy, and we’ll be okay. It’s just a drill.” Nyla assured her.

Lyla hugged her once more and nodded her head, feeling safe in her mother’s arms. Nyla looked to her daughter’s teacher.

“Mrs. Bowman, can I—”

“Of course, Nyla. Given the circumstances—I, yes. Take her.”

The two women exchanged looks and Nyla nodded. Whispering a word of thanks, she took Lyla by the hand and walked her out of the classroom.

“Why is everyone running around, mommy?”

The girls arrived at the station to find it just as chaotic as the school and the roads. Still unable to get in touch with Donovan, Nyla did what she felt was best and had brought Lyla back to the station with her, where she knew they would at least have access to a bomb shelter.

“We’re having a drill, just like we were at school when I picked you up.” She reminded her.

“But then why does everyone look so scared?” Lyla looked around at the adults passing her by, eyes wide and faces forward. Everywhere she looked, everyone seemed to be in a rush to be somewhere else.

“Because they’re good actors, baby.”

“Detective, why aren’t you on the street??”

Nyla rounded the corner with Lyla’s hand in hers and came face to face with Sargent Grey.

“Because I need to take care of my daughter.” She quickly explained.

Grey stopped and looked down to see a sweet young girl with curly brown hair and striking blue eyes at her side. For a moment, the two simply stared at each other. Nyla pleaded at him with her eyes, begging for understanding.

Caught off guard at first, he finally got the message and nodded along. “Understood.”

His stance softened and he looked down at the child standing before him.

“Hi there, I’m Sargent Grey.”

“Lyla!”

“Nice to meet you, Lyla.” He smiled. “Do you mind if I talk to your mom for a minute?”

“Sure!” Lyla obliged.

Nyla fished out some change from her pockets and handed it to Lyla, instructing her to take it and get a snack from the vending machine.

“Umm, I can help her.” Rachel offered as she approached the officers. Nyla smiled and agreed, grateful for another pair of eyes as she spoke with the Sargent.

For a moment, she finally let her guard down and allowed herself to get back into her headset from earlier. Lyla was safe at the moment and out of ear shot. Nyla no longer had to keep the brave act going and let out a shaky breath as she dared to ask the question she didn’t want an answer to.

“Is it real?”

Grey sighed. “I don’t know. Tell me, how was traffic coming in? Any chance of people to get clear?”

Nyla stared back at him for a moment, wishing she had a better answer. Instead, she shook her head.

“No.”

Nyla sat at the table as Lyla colored a picture. She picked up her phone, again dialing Donovan, for the 17th time in 2 hours, only to once again be met with his voicemail. The uncertainty of what was to come had her reeling inside, but she did her best to hide it, not wanting to scare or upset Lyla.

Even so, the young girl was incredibly perceptive, and quite frankly, starting to become bored. She noticed how Nyla would grab her phone every 2 minutes, and how she would continuously dial her father’s phone number, and how she would look out the door each time someone passed by.

“Mommy,” She finally asked. “What’s really going on?”

“I told you honey, it’s a drill.” Nyla repeated. But not before glancing at the door once more.

“Please don’t lie.”

She stopped and looked back at her child.

“Daddy says that’s why we can’t see you anymore. Don’t you want to tell the truth?”

Caught off guard, Nyla felt her heart shatter at the girl’s words. Of course she wanted to tell the truth. Of course she wanted to live the life she had previously, where she could be at home each night, tucking Lyla into bed and reading bedtime stories and listening to her tell her all about her day.

But that was another life. A life before undercover work nearly wrecked her family.

She looked down at Lyla and gave her a half smile. “Of course I do, honey. I just—I—my previous job, I had to lie a lot.”

Lyla’s eyes widened at her mother’s admission.

“To fool criminals,” Nyla clarified. “I had to lie to fool the bad guys.”

“But why do you want to fool me? Are you mad at me?”

“Of course not, no honey.” She immediately answered, wanting to erase that doubt from her mind as quickly as possible. Her eyes began to fill with tears as she struggled with how to best explain things.

“I love you.” She assured her, tears beginning to roll down her face.

Lyla nodded and smiled. “I’ll make you a deal, I’ll stop sleeping with the nightlight if you tell the truth, okay?”

“Okay.” Nyla agreed.

Leaning in, Lyla wrapped her arms around her mother and Nyla brought her in closer, hugging her tightly and kissing her hair. All she wanted was safety and comfort for her daughter in the moment. All she wanted was not to be the bad guy in her daughter’s life, the one who couldn’t protect her from danger.

“Is my daughter here?? Where is she?! Lyla! Ly—where is my daughter??”

Captain Anderson had just gotten off the phone, assuring the city official on her list for the tenth time that the threat had been neutralized and was in fact a mistake. She could hear a commotion coming from downstairs and headed out into the hall to oversee the bullpen and get a better idea of what was happening down below.

A frantic middle aged man paced the floor, calling out for his daughter. She shut her door and headed down the stairs to meet with him as one of her officers tried to keep him calm and in place.

“What’s going on down here? Sir, how can I help you?” She asked, approaching the two men.

“My daughter, Lyla! Please, tell me she’s here.” He explained, slightly calmer.

“Daddy!!”

Everyone turned as the voice of a small child floated down the hall. The man sighed as his whole body began to relax and the child ran into his arms, hugging him tightly.

“Oh thank God…are you okay baby?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Lyla assured him. “Mom picked me up from school because of the missile, but it’s not real.”

Nyla stepped in closer. “I was trying to get in touch with you, but—”

“You had no right!” He bellowed. Standing suddenly, he towered over his ex-wife. “I showed up and she was gone! The school was closed, and I had no idea where our daughter was!!”

“Sir, I understand your fear.” Anderson spoke, stepping in to try and defuse the situation. “But your daughter was safe. Nyla just wanted to keep her safe and it sounds like she couldn’t get in touch with you.”

Donovan glanced over at her and sneered. “You don’t understand! She has no custody rights. She kidnapped my child!”

Lyla looked up at her father with fear in her eyes while Nyla once more tried to intervene.

“I did not—”

“No!” He yelled, cutting her off. “I don’t even want to hear it. I want her arrested, now!”

“Donovan!”

“Daddy, no!”

The bullpen was silent and every officer in the vicinity had stopped what they were doing, invested in the scene currently unfolding before them. Captain Anderson took note of the heightened emotions and the small child, frightened in front of her.

“Alright, that’s enough. Everyone back to work, threats over.” She announced before turning her attention to Donovan.

“Mr…”

“Town. Donovan Town.” He replied.

“Mr. Town. Please, I’m sure we can get this worked out. Why don’t you have a cup of coffee and take a minute while I talk with detective Harper. Let’s not make any irrational decisions and try and cool down before we do anything hasty.”

Donovan blew out a breath, softening slightly. “Fine. One cup of coffee. And then I’m taking my daughter home with me, and Nyla can speak to my lawyer if she wants to see her again.”

Nyla scoffed slightly under her breath at the threat and rolled her eyes. It was moments like this she wondered how she and Don ever ended up together to begin with.

Captain Anderson gestured in front of her, signaling Nyla to lead the way up to her office. Nyla nodded and made her way up the stairs and into the captain’s office.

Grief, anger, and frustration swirled through her head. She had been found out. The walls she worked so hard to put up had just been bulldozed in front of the entire station. Thanks to Donovan, everyone knew their business. Everyone knew her business.

Anderson walked in and shut the door behind her, taking note of Nyla pacing the floor.

“Captain, I’m sorry.” She apologized. “I didn’t mean to create a scene like that. It was conduct completely unbecoming of an officer and I will do everything in my power to see it doesn’t happen again. My personal life has no business here.”

The captain waited, giving the detective a moment to continue to allow her emotions to take center stage. But as the silence continued to envelop the room, she quickly realized that Harper had begun to compartmentalize and would not allow herself the space to come undone until she was at home, hours later, by herself.

Detective Harper hadn’t been with the department for very long, but Anderson was quick to pick up on her walls. Nyla was kind and cordial, but it was evident she didn’t trust easily and was quite often on the defense. Many qualities the captain recognized in herself; she saw in Harper.

“Nyla, look at me.” She finally spoke.

The officer took a breath and opened her eyes, looking back at her captain.

“It’s just us in this room, and it’s been a hell of a day. There’s no judgement. Take a moment.”

It wasn’t like Nyla needed permission to break down, she didn’t. She was a 38 year old woman, a mother. But having that permission, knowing she was safe, that Lyla was safe, that the world wasn’t coming to a sharp and sudden end, it gave her the freedom to let go of the emotions she had pent up inside of her all day. She felt air rush into her lungs as she inhaled deeply and finally, released.

“I must have called him fifty times today. I wouldn’t have gone and gotten her if I knew he had her, but—damn it! I thought the world was ending!” She cried. “And I’ve already hurt her enough. I already wasn’t there for her enough, I—I didn’t want her to think that when the world was ending, it was just another day of me letting her down.”

Harper stopped and sniffled, trying in vain to keep control of her emotions. “I know I screwed up. I mean, what kind of mother puts the job before her kid? But I’m trying. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m trying to be better for her. To do better for her. I know people don’t know me or trust me yet, and probably think I’m foolish for choosing training officer when I could have had any position in the department. But it’s for Lyla. Everything from this point forward is for Lyla.”

“The kind of mother who is trying to protect her child from the dangers of the world, and one who is in a unique position to actually be able to do so.” Anderson replied.

Nyla stopped. “What?”

“You asked what kind of mother puts the job before her child. What, you think I haven’t read your file before? You think I didn’t see the types of undercover ops you were involved in? One day, one interaction you had no control over does not make you a bad mother.”

“Nyla,” she continued. You deserve to be known for more than your mistakes. And you deserve a second chance to do right by your daughter. Don’t ever stop fighting for that.”

Harper nodded as the tears continued to fall. This was certainly not how she envisioned her day going, nor how she envisioned her coworkers finding out about her family. But now that the world was not ending, not today at least, she had to continue her plight. Regardless of what anyone thought.

She wiped the tears from her eyes and straightened up. “Captain, thank you. Both for your wisdom and for the space. I appreciate it very much.”

She nodded as Nyla began to walk out of the room.

“Detective Harper?”

“Yes ma’am?”

“I know how difficult custody battles can be. My office will always be open to you if you ever need a quiet place to yourself.”

Nyla nodded as her hand held onto the door handle. She turned once more back toward her captain.

“Thank you, ma’am. I may just take you up on that.”
