Kurt Glee Rewatch: Audition

Get ready for a bunch of eps about Kurt being hella isolated

The boy is back, stylin as ever. Love how he just ignores the interview but ofc, Kurt is never one to hold back. Just has to sass, I love him.

Mercedes fanning Kurt over New York, omg I love their friendship so much and we have v little left... oof.

Also love that the club has just... given up on trying to be popular. Valid.

I also love when Will tries to be cool and the others are clapping but Kurt just shakes his head like ‘pls stop’

Can I just say how much I love Kurt’s hair in this number? Getting ready for s4: age of fluffy haired Kurt.

Schue must hate the Glee club bc omg they gotta stop with public performances bc it never works. I do love how throughout the song Mike goes and dances with Kurt. They have such a lowkey friendship in the background of shots and I wish that canonically they had... any conversation.

Anyway this was definitely... a performance.

Love Kurtcedes hanging together and ofc “Fashion has no gender” We still get Kurt playing with fashion, like even here when wearing something more ‘feminine’ it’s paired with a buttondown and tie so it’s still clearly masculine.

When Rachel comes up to them she calls them ‘Ladies’ and Kurt gives such an annoyed look. Prob partly bc Rachel is annoying, but we know he hates being called a lady. Hell, the jock who slushied him at start of ep called him Lady. 

Kurt has called himself an ‘honorary girl’ bc he has more in common with them, feels more comfortable with them, but he still identifies as a guy and oof already McKinley is grating on him. Even within glee club all the comments are made and this is def setting up Dalton.

On another note, love watching Kurt’s reactions to Rachel explaining her plan. So entertaining. I miss the era of Kurtcedes being hella done with all of Rachel’s antics.

Remember when Kurt wore a harness to school? Is it bc the Glee club is oblivious that no one realized? I hc that Kurt knew exactly what he was doing and knew he’d get away with it bc McKinley is lowkey dumb. Absolute Icon.

No but why tf is Kurt sitting next to Schue this is the most ooc moment of all time. What happened here? Maybe Chris and Matt were having a convo between takes and just didn’t move? This will haunt me bc we all know Kurt is not Schue’s biggest fan. Barely a fan at all lol.

just wanted to say I totally agree on the new Maren Morris album convo far! "Humble Quest" and "Detour" are my two stand outs so far after a first listen through. I also just wanted to share some info on the last track, "What Would This World Do". Before this release, MM actually first performed it in 2019, and it was written in memory of her friend and big Country/Pop music producer named Busbee, who passed away from the age of 43 from a brain cancer. They worked on "My Church" and "80s Mercedes" together.

Here is a bit more info on it:

" But the final track on the album was reserved for her previous producer, busbee, who died in 2019 after working on Morris' first two records. Morris, along with Hurd and writer Jon Green, all friends of busbee, wrote the heartbreaking piano ballad "What Would This World Do?" just weeks before his death. Morris was given the piano that she and busbee wrote "80s Mercedes" on and it has a special place in their home where Hayes can play on it.

"The delivery of that performance is the most broken and raw that you will probably ever hear my voice," Morris said, of the song that Hurd sings backup vocals on.

But with a smile on her face, Morris remembered that busbee was such a stickler for getting vocals exactly right during recording.

"I think that kind of brought me through," Morris said. "It was knowing that if he were here, he would say, 'Do it again.'"

(Not Really) Quick Thoughts on FE: 3 Houses

Me? Talking about a game that’s been out for almost two years now? You best believe it.

Quick Backstory before I bullet point this shit so I can get it out of my system. I played the game the day it released years ago and more or less finished it in a week. My first route was with Black Eagles and after finishing it was ultimately unsatisfied by the ending and set it down with no intention of doing the other routes. A friend started playing it late 2019 and was fawning over Dimitri and his route. Taking her word for it, I gave the game another go and decided to finally finish it. Took me a while but I finally finished the three main routes and oh boy...

The Houses

I loved all the women in Black Eagles but the guys were meh. Caspar was fun and by far my favorite of them, but Hubert grated on my nerves and Ferdinand was sweet but because I also had Sylvain on my team, I kept confusing the two (based on appearance not personality). 

The general cast of Blue Lions was by far my favorite. Every person in the house was so enjoyable and I actually loved getting the support conversations for all of them (Ashe is my favorite character). My only issue with the house was ironically Dimitri who I could not stand post time skip (a little more on that below).

By my Golden Deer run, I was mostly playing just to complete the game which might contribute to how lackluster I found them. I wanted to kill Lorenz so bad but he was so good at killing people and Ignatz was sweet but was so bad at killing people that I permanently benched him to focus on everyone else (played this one on hard mode). Almost all of their support conversations were fairly one note and after the layered convos of Blue Lions, I wanted more. Claude is incredible though and it became an inverse of my thoughts on Blue Lions.

Bonus: Yuri and Hapi were my immediate faves (even if Hapi was a glass canon on the field for half of the game) while Balthus and Constance where interesting but still meh for me. 

Plot

So I picked Black Eagles house solely because I was interested about Edelgard and I definitely didn’t realize I was signing up to side with the one starting a fucking war. While I loved Edelgard throughout, I found the actual route complicated for me, especially after the time skip where I was taking down people I didn’t want to take down. I was left feeling like I was following the bad guys even as the game tried to say otherwise and it left me with a bad taste. In retrospect, I’m sure the devs didn’t really intend for you to do this route first judging by how little they go in the way of explaining certain things such as Byleth and Those Who Slither In the Dark. Overall, I understood why Edelgard was doing what she was doing, but the game thought that was enough and didn’t even try to convince me why I should side with her outside of that and it only hurt her route overall. Plus, I am still annoyed that Edelgard dealt with TWS in the epilogue and not in her actual route WHEN SHE IS THE ONE WHO WAS ARGUABLY AFFECTED BY THEM THE MOST OF THE THREE HOUSE LEADERS LIKE WTF WHY GIVE THAT MOMENT TO CLAUDE.

I’ll be honest, I remember so little of what actually happened in the Blue Lions route which I attribute to me not being able to really get on board with Dimitri since BL is more or less an intimate character focused route for Dimitri’s growth. I’m not here to bash Dimitri, I’m just saying his shifts in character happened a little suddenly and there were other things about his character that were kinda just vanilla for me. I did find it weird that we never actually saw Rhea again even though getting her back was a big thing for most of the characters and you’re kinda left to wonder what even happened to her (another moment given to Claude’s run).

And finally the Golden Deers. By the 3rd time through all pre-timeskip stuff was so insufferable to get through, but the one saving grace was Claude’s insight in all of it. It made it feel different even though the events were the same. Post-timeskip his route really shines as it is able to bridge the gap between the war and the proxy war behind it with TWS. It’s also the only route that you actually get answers for shit that the other two ignore (which thematically makes sense for those routes but still). It is ironic though that this route did more to get me to sympathize with Edelgard that her own route did. It is technically the best route of the three hands down. 

Other

So Rhea. I went in not trusting her because Jeralt mentions to be on guard about her and, since I started with BE, my distrust was proven right since she is trying to rip open your heart to get Sothis back. That hatred/distrust ran through my other two routes up until the last few chapters of Claude’s where we actually get context for what was going on. I was left in a similar position that I was in with Edelgard where I could understand Rhea’s reasoning for doing everything she did, but I still couldn’t side with her considering that she is technically responsible for the worship of Crests and nobility. Also, who builds a church and places yourself on top to be worshipped? Also also, why even place such importance on Crests? I know about the interview with the developers saying she “had” to because of how humans viewed the 10 elites at the time, but I feel like there is another option to build peace between them that doesn’t involve the elevation of Crests. Also racism; really should have done more to prevent that from blossoming in the way that it did.  

So Edelgard. She seems to be a hot topic on Tumblr which tracks so I’m going to traverse this with extra tact. I do love her and overall, I do agree that the system that the Church built had become corrupt. I mean when multiple children have emotional and physical scars of that corruption at school, it’s hard to argue against that. Do I agree that starting a war is the best way to change things? Before 2020, I would have said no, that there had to be another way to change things. But now? I dunno sometimes a system is too corrupt to rebuild off of diplomacy alone and it definitely wouldn’t happen quickly enough in a person’s lifetime. Given Edelgard’s shortened lifespan, I do get why diplomacy would have never worked for her. I don’t think I can ever fully support Edelgard for the war she started and for siding with TWS (I know her reasons but that’s basically making a deal with the devil) but I can’t deny that her goals are admirable at the least. Will her winning said war even change things? Well who knows. That depends on how she implements them afterward. I’ve seen lots of people claim that it’s unrealistic for her to have been successful in changing anything after the war but I don’t know about that. If anything, Rhea proved that she could mold the world however she wanted after her war and if Rhea could do it, then why can’t Edelgard.

Considering the nastiness of racism, I can’t even believe that Claude’s run of “end racism” was going to be as successful as they think. Solid baby steps, maybe? But don’t know how well that’ll actually go in the long run.

Dimitri might have been overhyped or something but I expected so much more than what I got from him. In the Academy Era, he rang fairly vanilla in that he was a kind and honorable guy but not much else. Felix mentions how savage he is, but there weren’t very many hints of that pre-timeskip (that I remember anyway). Obviously he was a ticking time bomb and later Dimitri shows that. And I was totally on board with slowly helping Dimitri become human again, but that’s not really what happened. You’re not allowed to do anything with Dimitri other than get his brief blurb in Explore or toss him into battle. I know why they did it, but because they shut him off from you so completely, I had problems being able to connect with him in the post time skip and ended up rolling my eyes whenever he started talking. It also made his change after Rodrigue died so sudden and it felt v forced for me. They really could have done a better job at it is all I’m saying. 

Ashe and Mercedes had the cutest S-support epilogue and I will die for them. 

Dorothea deserves the world and Yuri and Dorothea making an Opera troupe for commoners is the best thing.

I wanted so much more for Leonie but they stuck so hard to the Jeralt fangirl label that she never really grew beyond that.

I really wish IS would show off how supports between students/students are gonna go, like? Because i saw that during the game footage from tree house when they were choosing a partner for eledgard they pasted the boys and only A rank showed for them no s rank. But yet they show s rank for male blyeth with female students???? So i don't understand, is there just not gonna be romance between studnets? I really hope that not the case because Im still not pairing blyeth with any studnets still

i honestly also wish they’d show it. maybe the supports are story locked? for example, edelgard/petra is only up to b rank in that one video we saw, but maybe they’ll be able to reach a rank after a certain point in the game. it could be like that for the students too

i also think the screenshot is just the support convo list, showing us which ones can be unlocked as the story goes on. so if we saw that list for edelgard, it’d show which characters she can s support and that the petra chain goes up to a. or something. i hope so, at least. i’m not really sure. IS is keeping it up in the wraps

i can also tell you which people can support with each other, if that’s any consolation. it means there’s a fighting chance that some pairs have s supports!

TDB Rewatch: Thanksgiving

Watched this one with my brother tonight.  

Me: Shut up, Rachel, you’re annoying this season. Brother: What season isn’t she annoying?  Me: Season 6?

So... this was an episode.  It’s honestly kind of boring for the amount of shocking things that supposedly happen in it.  Idk.  It’s fine. 

Thoughts: 

Blink and you miss - Sue, Emma, and Will are in this episode.  You know, I really have not missed them being around.  I never do. 

Omg, does this episode have a lot of I don’t cares in it. 

The old seniors come back! And... I don’t really care.  It’s sad that Mercedes gets virtually nothing to do.  Neither does Mike, really.  Santana has some funny lines, and I appreciate her concern for Marley, but ug the Quinn v Santana dynamic.  Was the slap necessary? Did it add anything to either of their stories? Not not really. 

Also - I don’t really like the return of crazy Quinn because they could. 

It bugs me that for all their talk of being in sync, the Unholy Trinity song wasn’t really that in sync.  They tried though. 

Meanwhile, Finn didn’t really do much in this episode.  Huh.  

More Marley eating disorder stuff -- thank god this is almost over.  

I did like Marley and Unique’s friendship talk, though.  

Jake and Ryder being bros -- still don’t care. 

Kitty overly worshipping Quinn was a little weird.  

(I’m so sorry - you get another year of me whining about how I hate this love triangle) 

Sam needs more screen time.  

Tina and Brittany need more screen time.  

Omg - even Sugar and Joe are more interesting characters. 

Blaine literally did not utter a word until the phone call.  Eesh, poor bb.  This show is not interesting without you!

Brody’s slightly tolerable in this episode -- though he goes to a school for musical theater - what’s his issue with singing?!?

Kurt loves Blaine so fuckin’ much.  he just doesn’t always show it. 

This is one of the best talks they’ve ever had - I’m sad the show didn’t let them have this kind of thing more often.

Kurt Glee Rewatch: Theatricality

We deserved more Kurt singing in Gaga songs, just saying.

So, obvs I love Carol but I do find this scene kinda weird? She knows how difficult it was for Finn when she first started dating Burt so why didn’t she have a private convo with him first? Could’ve given him time to process. But then, that’s not entertaining TV.

Also, v small note, but when Kurt mentions the tuna crudite, Burt corrects himself to use the correct term. V subtle change from before, when he wouldn’t really bother (the Maria bonnet before lol). Just thought I’d point it out. He’s already trying...

And why does a house with 2 (and a half) bathrooms not have another room? There are more bathrooms than bedrooms lol.

Def feel bad for Finn here, prob could’ve handled it better. Also, don’t see Kurt as really crushing on Finn at this point? More just excited, trying to make things work. Also def blinded by the thought of getting to redecorate lol.

Theatricality and Funk were switched when aired so timeline is of Vocal Adrenaline is weird but... oh well.

How dare VA do Gaga when that is his identity (and yet he only got to do 2 Gaga songs, blasphemy)

Kinda side-tangent but oof, Finn, casual homophobia is showing.

First off, he says they’re always doing what the girls want to do?? No?? They do what Will wants. Maybe he means Madonna but a) that was Will inspired by Sue and b) that was bc the guys were being sexist asses.

I do like the idea of bringing in different types of theatricality but would be interesting to have the whole club do both kinds, maybe do Gaga one week, Kiss the next. And oof, the way Finn says ‘except for Kurt’ here bc of all the annoyance he has at the situation... yikes. Trouble ahead.

It was made as a big deal in s2, like Kurt wouldn’t have stood up for himself witout Blaine’s courage text but Kurt’s been calling them out all along?? Or maybe by s2 he was more beaten down and unwilling to do anything.

Also, kudos to Azimio for knowing what crepe paper is.

I cannot even with this number. I mean, we get Kurt, Santana, Mercedes, Tina(!) singing lead and freaking rocking it! Wish they got to sing together more often.

And the dance and Kurt getting to use his lower register and just. Lowkey better than numerous competition performances. I love this so much.

Wtf is this reaction to one of the best songs they’ve ever done? Esp you Matt, We know nothing about you but I expected better. Ugh, finn and puck complained about not wanting to perform gaga, fine, but you can’t even support your friends and appreciate a freaking amazing number???

And ofc when the boys perform these guys are all hella into it. Bc they support their friends and are able to appreciate a good performance. Oof.

Jeez, Tina and Kurt are going through it this ep. Why is no one else getting grief? Is it bc the other girls are cheerios? What about Rachel and Mercedes? The lack of adult supervision in this school is astounding.

This look of pure derision Kurt throws Finn... why I think the crush is practically gone at this point oof.

Kurt has spent so damn long working to accept himself, to build up some confidence to be who he is. And esp now that he has acceptance from his dad, the only opnion he cares about, ofc Kurt has no desire to ‘blend in’. 

“It’s just a moist towelette!”

I mean, I was also struggling with Finn trying to wipe off make-up with a dry paper towel like dude. And Kurt prob wants to just comfortably hang out with another guy, but Finn freaks the fuck out. Back in Ballad they hung out pretty closely and Finn never said anything and legit hasn’t called Kurt out on any of it yet. Kurt had been very intense before, but here Kurt is being casual about things.

Kurt kicking the chair slays me. He learned it from Finn. 

Omg this room. Like, lowkey, I’d love to have a room like that, but also.

We saw Kurt in his Mellencamp phase. We know he knows how to ‘butch’ things up if he needs to. Also, this is nothing like any of his past aesthetics and nothing we ever see again?? His style is very modern, usually more sleek and monochrome. I feel like this room was made way more extra to incite the argument cuz like. Wow. I do appreciate the privacy partition, Kurt trying so hard.

Omg this scene. How Kurt was really sincere in trying to make something finn would like. And then the turn around to sadness, embarrassment, regret. Legit a million emotions on his face.

The way Finn is shocked when Kurt starts shouting. Lowkey we don’t see Kurt shout often, normally he goes for cutting remarks etc. Kurt is def in defensive mode.

And when Finn starts using the f-slur like damn. And how Kurt barely reacts to it bc he’s used to the word being used against him (tho never before by Finn) and he prob still feels guilt about the crush and about the room oof.

Then Burt Hummel. Omg. I love how he calls Finn out like ‘you weren’t talking about the blanket, you meant it towards Kurt’ bc yes.

And Kurt jumps to Finn’s defense bc he’s used to being bullied. He’s upset it’s from Finn, but it’s not super out of the ordinary

And Burt calls Finn out like, you won’t use the n-word, the r-word, but you’re totally fine using that slur? 

And how Burt brings it back bc he was the same when he was a kid. Kurt being gay prob had Burt thinking back on all the crap he’d say with his friends and he has lots of guilt over it.

And how Burt says he thought Finn was this ‘new generation of man’ and honestly, that makes me so upset that we barely see anymore Kurt and Finn friendship after this until like. Furt. And after that, even less. And they lowkey don’t give Kurt any male friends (until Elliot, which is nice but ofc he’s also gay).

After all this, and the stupid ‘predatory gay’ trope they gave Kurt earlier, it would be cool to see Kurt getting to be friends with straight guys without it being a big deal ugh. I’ll rant more in Duets tho.

I do think the last scene was when Kurt’s crush officially died. Finn was no different than every other bully he’d dealt with. At least he’s eventually able to forgive him and accept him as a brother tho.

“My balls keep falling off” “I’ve been there” this line kills me.

Kurt’s reaction to every bully: “go ahead, hit me” like boi

Also, I love the quiet ‘oh my god...’ when he sees Finn bc. Ya. Same. Love the speech, and kinda love that even tho Finn is giving this intense speech, he doesn’t clarify ‘my brother’ or ‘my friend’ bc he doesn’t care what the others think. This is just about making it right with Kurt.

And Will appears after this and... no check in with Kurt. Doesn’t go after Karofsky and Azimio bc they were about to beat a kid up. Like... dude. 

This is why I rewatch omg. Kurt pets Finn’s shoulder, and when Finn does it back Kurt immediately waves him off like ‘don’t touch the costume’. Lol.

Also, how tf did Finn make this costume.
