Hi. So I’m not a Layton guy and all THAT familiar with the lore, but a close friend of mine is, and as far as I understand Layton has a dead girlfriend? Can I please know who Magolor’s dead girlfriend equivalent in this AU is? I’m legitimately so curious. /pos
Tumblr media
I have been thinking A LOT about which Kirby character would fit Claire's (dead gf) role. In the end I chose Taranza bc I feel he and Claire are the most similar in character. They're both really good at what they do (Claire: brilliant scientist - Taranza: immaculate mage), quick thinkers, humble, and have a lot of love to give.
I'll explain more under the cut (along with images of Claire and younger Layton for design ref), but Taranza could've also fit in as a couple other characters bc I made Sectonia as Descole. In this essay I will-
Tumblr media
In Kirby there's an interesting connection between Magolor and Taranza. Primarily based on that one Magolor portrait in that haunted house in Triple Deluxe (like ok huh????) and also that one Star Allies Wave 3 illustration.
With that portrait existing, to me it implies that Magolor has met Taranza and Sectonia before the events of the game somehow. This theory is further backed up with the Old Friend mask in Merry Magoland. Magolor would HAVE to have known what Joronia looked like before her transformation, and that means he would also have met Taranza too at that time. I could be completely wrong about this HAHA but those are my thoughts on that.
When Wave 3 was announced, I didn't think much on the connection of the 3 characters other than they were from the first three core games of modern Kirby. But then they posted this art piece.
Tumblr media
It's so cute how Magolor and Taranza combined their magic to create a shield for Kirby!! Both of their respective magic circle designs are melded together perfectly. Did they practice together on their own to perform this or was that a lucky in-the-moment occurrence? Either way, they must know and understand each other's magic abilities to a decent extent. Like how both Claire and Layton understands each other's careers and goals. Layton is a professor in archeology. Claire is a scientist researching time travel and other stuffs. Those fields go hand in hand, and the two do what they can to support and improve each other's passions.
Now onto the other characters that Taranza would've fit as and reasons why I ended up putting him as Claire.
So I put Sectonia as Descole. Descole has an extremely loyal partner/butler/henchman named Raymond. Yea Taranza would easily fit as him, but a few things made me decide not to. Descole may appear cold and not show it, but even in his madness he cares for Raymond. He does order Raymond around, but he still gives Raymond freewill to do as he pleases. Sectonia is very controlling over Taranza. If Raymond were to make mistakes, I don't see Descole punishing him for them. Sectonia would. She blasted Taranza away for mistaking Dedede as the hero of the lower world. Maybe when she was Joronia she wouldn't and wasn't as controlling but....I feel we don't have the full story on their relationship. I also focused more on Sectonia's overall in-game personality. I absolutely love seeing the two spiders enjoying each other's company and having fun, but in-game we never really got what Joronia really thought of Taranza. As Sectonia, she saw him as a disposable servant. You can say her personality was corrupted by the mirror, but I personally believe the mirror actually amplified her negative feelings and views. Negative emotions are brought up a lot in Kirby lore. I personally find that more interesting than just the mirror possessing her or something. I may be very wrong on that, but those are what I thought about.
Last reason, which is uhm, Raymond saves Descole from death FGDHSJ I don't think I need to elaborate on that. It would be so neat and ironic to have Taranza as Raymond, but I also wanna keep things in line as possible with Kirby lore canon.
Yet, who could be Raymond then? Idk fgdsj that's why I struggled so much. If Claire wasn't an option, Taranza would've been Raymond.
Now the one other character Taranza could've fit as is Descole's late wife. His wife was never mentioned by name, to my memory, and didn't have a huge role in the games. There's not enough information on who she was. I wanted to give Taranza a fitting role in personality and importance.
So in the end after all that thinking, Claire it is! I also don't know who else in the Kirby cast would fit her better and be Professor Magolor's late partner. One may think Susie would fit Claire more, but I've already decided she will be Emmy. Emmy's and Susie's personalities are very similar to me. And Emmy's lore? Fits quite well with Susie's. I'll draw that at some point.
So uh yea. Thanks for reading all that if you did! Hope you enjoyed the insanity

Why is Angie your favourite character?
This is really funny I just got off call with Glownary and was talking about how much I don't miss Danganronpa discourse. Anyway I hope someone finds a way to get mad at me in this post!
((Admittedly I'd probably actually place Korekiyo above her because he ACTUALLY has a relevant and specified canon story,,, but, y'kno))
Plain and simple, she just has a handful of design and character tropes I super adore in characters! As a base, I'm usually not super into,,, well-adjusted, well-liked , reasonable, and rational characters. LMAO. They're fine but I live for exaggeration. I LOVE when they're little freaks and not watered down at all for the viewers sake/comfort, I love when they (both the writers and the written) just keep twisting the knife for no good reason other than the bit despite how unconventional it may be.
One could argue that her not being watered down and being as shitty to the other players as she is is a trauma response, or just a mentally ill person being mentally ill. It can be neat to think of her that way sometimes! It's of my opinion that almost all Danganronpa characters are super open-ended lore/personality-wise and we as fans are just making up canon as we go because it's FUCKING FUN, and, as such, all the ways that Angie can be interpreted is very interesting to me-- EVEN if that's seen as "the irredeemable annoying religion-force-feeding zealot antagonist." Which is, of course, an objectively awful way to view anyone REGARDLESS of media illiteracy, but, you know! I like weird freaks so this "flaw" they see is simply more food for me. Yippee!!
Whether I think she's canonically A) genuinely malicious and sadistic, B) traumatized from an abusive religious sect, C) honestly caring about the other players, and/or D) none/all of the above? I'll never tell! Oops all bangers!
Tropes I enjoy, whether or not I found myself enjoying them BECAUSE of Angie herself;;
Religion, especially if it's horrifying and...bad! (Most of my own characters deal heavily with religion and religious trauma, I think it's cool to play with, whether or not it's a fantasy religion like I think Angie's is)
CULTS! Cult behavior! Let's live in a commune!! (GUYS I LOVE MIDSOMMAR)
Dark skin / light hair contrast color combo goes hard!!!
+ The pansexual flag palette is literally my favorite color combo ever!!!!
Manipulative little shits!!!!!
Small scary women!!!!!!
Islander stuff, it's very nostalgic to me and I just have a deep love and appreciation for the beach and ocean!!!!!!!
Piercings!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cutesy sunshine character who could and would stab you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IDK HOW THIS WASN'T MY FIRST POINT!!!!!!!!!!
AND SHE'S JUST FUCKING SILLY!!!!!!!! SHE'S GENUINELY SO FUNNY AND CUTE ESPECIALLY IN HER INTERACTIONS WITH SHUICHI!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HER SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was an IMMEDIATE favorite when I played V3 and when I found out that, like, everyone fucking HATED her and she's probably the least liked character in the entire class by the fans, my brain immediately went the contrarian route to find reasons to like her even MORE. I tend to do this a lot, but when it's a character I already enjoy, it's even worse, dude.
ummmmm obligatory Shinnaga mention sorry but I frequently tend to appreciate a character a lot more based on potential dynamics alone. Ships, romantic or not, have legitimately gotten me to enjoy characters I hated before, based on interesting interactions unique to them alone. So while Kiyo and Angie's (they're making out btw) ingame dynamic and dialogues aren't REALLY what my sick and twisted mind views them as, it's worth noting that my honest belief and interpretation of the two of them could even give me a sliver of that dynamic being possible .......... means she's fuckin slay ............ it means love wins..... It means Vote For Yonaga 2024

Jet Set Radio Redux!
So, this is the first post about the silly AU, aside from past drawings. Unlike other AUs, it's more like an AEU (alternate-expanded universe) and doesn't have a specific theme. It's more my weird remix of Jet Set Radio and whatever things I find neat I mixed in built up into a wild little alternate universe I call my own. So yeah, let's get to it.
The actual going ons of this world
This alternate universe is split up into a trilogy of theoretical games, each with their own sort of style and what I'm doing with them.
Jet Set Radio Milennium
The OG JSR of this universe. Sticks pretty close to the original game in the base plot and gameplay style and was basically the original sprout that resulted in the AU, but the fridge horror is very intentional and much more clear than in the real OG JSR, but it's still portrayed in a pretty comical way due to whose point of view it is exactly and keeps the sweet, saccharine, fairly simple artstyle of the source material. Gameplay-wise, it's much faster than OG JSR and isn't momentum-based anymore so the tagging QTE doesn't feel like it's slowing things down too much and you don't slow down on rails like JSRF. I'll explain further about it with the JSRM gameplay post.
Jet Set Radio Overclock
The replacement for JSRF and the sequel to JSRM! Why you're all teenagers still in 2024 needs a pretty damn grand explanation of the lore behind Graffiti Souls, rudies and related magicky hijinks, but we'll have to skip that for now as that'll be explained in a future post.
Basically, 23 years after the events of Jet Set Radio Milennium, Goji's successor and son, Masashi Rokkaku, has totally changed Tokyo-to, now Neo-Tokyo, to a pretty bland metropolis completely absent of real rudies, as in the type of haunted teenager that was present in JSRM. Now it's just a bunch of kids who think they're cool, paint on legal graffiti walls and call each other gay until you bust onto the streets once again in your fresh new bodies like the big damn spooky badasses you are.
Why did no rudies return before? Well, Masashi Rokkaku was using netrium, basically magical Graffiti Soul power as a clean energy source for his big awesome city. Thus, no Graffiti Souls could come around to make any teenagers spooky again because they were getting juiced. This is getting long, so I'll elaborate in a further post.
I'm not sure what to do for the actual gameplay, but it'll actually be momentum-based now. So yeah Jet Set Radio Overclock. This one's plot is... wild...
Jet Set Radio Retro (title in progress)
A prequel game in the 1970's shamelessly filled with OCs. Not done too much work on it, but I have ideas in mind and it's title won't have Jet Set Radio in it because the titular radio station in it at all for obvious reasons. So, this'll be one you get to watch and evolve in real time!
Other Video Games
Ollie King is canon, basically being rudie culture for non-haunted peeps, and lacks stuff like actual vandalism. The predecessor to the "rudies" in JSRO. It's more so me just thinking about the funny skateboard people tbh.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is non-canon in all forms in JSRR to avoid even more comparisons to Jet Set Radio. It's a thing of it's own. Honestly, I would love to but this is more for the sake of Team Reptile's cool game not just being compared to JSR constantly even if it is a spiritual successor.
So yeah, beware and adore my abominable brainchild.

Hi! Don't know if this will go through but could I request a little something? Can I request the moon boys with a reader who's an indie game dev? I'm starting to learn how to do some game making stuff and want to make a indie game of my own and wanted to just see what you would think up for something like that. If this is too weird or hard for you to do then feel free to pass on it. No pressure. Have a nice day ^3^ <3
꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦
Warnings: Not really anything that I can think of
I’ll shut up now. Enjoy! And don’t be afraid to request.

Steven Grant
I think out of the three of them, Steven is the most interested in your work and process
He just likes to see you design, format, and type away in order to make your game
Maybe you do the soundtrack and OST too, he thinks that's fun to see too
I don't think Steven really does video games but I did see a fly post from someone who said that they think Steven would like the Portal games and I can see that
He loves puzzles already, so why not a puzzle based video game
Anyways, I think that he'd test play it a little. Not to a professional level. Sort of as a guinea pig to represent regular players
Unless it's a horror game. Steven can appreciate the art of horror games but from a distance
His ass could not handle the Silent Hill franchise and P.T.
(I have so much in my brain for like... games that I think the boys would like and maybe I'll do that in a second after this. Feel free to converse about games that y'all think they'd hypothetically enjoy)
Marc Spector
Marc doesn't really know how it all works. He knows there's coding and stuff but that's it
He finds it kind of funny when he sees you at your desk working on your game wither it be design, soundtrack, or details
He does try to understand stuff even if he doesn't really get it
Like when you were worried and up all night because you sent in your game to be checked for bugs, glitches, and other things
You had to kindly explain to him that although it's good so that you can have the game be better for when others can play it, that also means that you need to find out how to fix it and that can be a pain in the ass
If your game has a story he asks about it. He might not be playing it but he actually wants to hear what your little guys are doing and why they're doing it
Steven loves a game with story too so he's interested in that too but like. Steven gets into the LORE. Marc just looks at the more obvious story
Jake Lockley
Calls you a nerd
He appreciates that you're making something neat like a game
But he's still calling your ass a nerd
He likes to see the process a little
Like the coding of movements, motion, and sprite stuff
I do think that he'd think it's cool to see you making the OST though
He likes things that he can observe that might go unnoticed like the OST being a part to help sell the atmosphere
He's a good game tester though. I feel like he'd find bugs on purpose for the sake of fun and to see just how janky it can get
You still don't know how he managed to get an item to stick to the pc's hand for the entire game. You tried looking for it to fix it but literally couldn't find it

I gotta ask! What's your thoughts on Same Coin Theory? Kinda branching off on that, what's your theories/thoughts on Bill's "different form, different time?" I'm obsessed with your video essays and would love to see your insight :3
Sorry, I don't think I have too much insight on this. I've actually answered this before, and while I think Same Coin is a rad theory, I don't think it's canon, at least in my interpretation of the series events. The fanfiction that is based on it is typically pretty awesome, though, and I can't think of a Same Coin Theory fanfic I read and didnt like.
I personally think the Stan and Bill similarities are there as shorthand, and for the audience to compare the two, especially since they're both "conman" archetypes. From a writer's standpoint, it's interesting to have one conman, Bill, purely after power and destruction and making the world his playground, and to make the other, Stan, someone who acts out of a place of great pain and struggle (at least in my own interpretation of their motivations, though I have seen some interesting theories on Bill's motivations.) Narratively, Ford (in his early 30s) trusts one of these characters and not the other, and by having them be similar in a bunch of superficial ways, it really drives home what those differences are and gives us insight into Stan, Bill AND Ford's personas in the process.
I don't know what Bill's "different form, different time" is, but I think it's some kind of reincarnation, and the axolotl poem does specify that going through this process is the only way to "absolve his crime." Seeing as Bill is trillions of years old, "another time" would probably be very far removed from the Pines' lifetimes. I assume this process means he would have a chance to either do better, and perhaps gain some kind of form or power back, or try to exact his revenge on our world and try again, fooling some other idiot in the future into summoning him.
Not gonna lie, Bill Cipher and his lore and backstory was never the part of Gravity Falls that I personally fixated on, so while I've always found fandom speculation on those aspects of the lore interesting and neat, it just wasn't the part of the series that I personally have theorized on or hoped for answers on.

The sims 3 lore is just as wacko as the sims 2 istg my fav lore has to be the dead clone wives lemme explain. So in twinbrook there's s sim name Juan Darer (he's quite interesting to look at too) in the junkyard he owns is the grave of Lacy Darer. Now Juan and Lacy have no relationship but she could be his ex wife as deceased spouses aren't shown on the family tree in the sims 3. Lacy died in a fire but what's the crazy part Juan's best friend Harwood Clay is has a possible wife named Macy Clay who also died in a fire. Macy and Lacy's names aren't just a coincidence. Macy and Lacy are almost completely identical. Many think they're twins but twins don't have the same exact same personalities. The darker theory is that Juan being the eccentric creator created clone wives for him and his best friend and Lacy and Macy somehow perished possible in the cloning process which is also the reason Juan's house caught on fire and he lives in a barn.

Sorry for taking forever to respond to this! This month has been wildly busy in the worst way!! I hate summer! Everyone in my house has been sick at some point! UGH!
Anyway, I finally had a chance to sit down and thoroughly look into both of these families. I'm going to start with the Doe family because, honestly, I don't have a whole lot to add about the Darers and I'm eager to jump into the Does (my thoughts on the Darers will be at the end though!).
Let's dive in! ↓
I had to look up Midnight Hollow to start, and EEEEEEP I love this world's whole vibe. If I play the Sims 3 THIS will be the world I start in!!! Favorite world I've learned about in TS3 so far. I lowkey want to live here irl.
But imagine my shock when I found out that they were putting whole ass worlds on The Sims 3 store. That's absolutely insane lmao!! They would of had my wallet with this one though, not gonna lie. The vibes are top-tier.
Tumblr media
Now I looked up the Doe family just like you said and I need you to know that they are the kind of unsolved lore I live for. This family alone makes me want to pirate buy TS3 today.
Tumblr media
The Wiki's description wasn't necessarily weird, but the household description left me with many questions.
Jane is the perfect housewife, from her neat hairstyle to her fashionable yet conservative dress. She's neat, nurturing, loves her kids, and can make a mean pot roast! Meanwhile, John is rising in the ranks at his corporate job. He feels successful in life and supported by his family. He works hard but comes home in enough time to teach his kids a lesson or two about life and talk to his wife about her day. Nothing mysterious seems to be happening here, but didn't their house used to have a basement?
That last line. Yeah. WTF? That made the hairs on my arm stand up, especially considering that the world they come with is supposed to mimic a classic-horror vibe. So Immediately I'm getting serial killer vibes, I'm getting psychological thriller, I'm getting family that invites you over for dinner only for you to realize that you are dinner.
Just from the description alone, I'm thinking that the parents are people with a wicked past - coconspirators in crime (whether Jane is a willing or unwilling participant is debatable but intriguing) that may involve killing and disposing, from the sounds of the "former-basement" and the fact that no one really knows why they've suddenly come to a new town without any explanation of their past. Additionally, the names feel like a reference to true crime and murder to me - the last name Doe, with first names Jane and John specifically, are typically names given to unidentifiable victims who, more than not, are victims of violence and brutalization which leaves them unidentifiable. Or, at times, they're simply unidentifiable based on the fact that they don't have family or friends that could claim them, thus making them the perfect targets if you've got bad intentions. The parents seem shady, but beyond that their names reaffirm that they aren't the perfect, squeaky-clean, nuclear family they pretend to be. I mean, you could even speculate that Jane and John are not even their real names. Obviously the sims team are big fans or campy, on-the-nose names (Bob Pancakes, the Goth family, the Calientes, Marcus Flex), but I've always liked to think that sim names can serve more than one purpose.
I jumped over to The Doe family community blog post and the interview there further confirmed a lot of my suspicions, and that whatever they're hiding might be sealed off in what used to be the family basement (the dev who made this family makes sure to draw attention to this enough that it's clearly significant). It's no coincidence that the basement suddenly "disappeared" (or perhaps just became inaccessible) as soon as the family moved in. Some notable things from this interaction:
The classic, old-fashioned misogyny from John. "The light of my life keeps my home perfect and welcoming." It's subtle, but says a lot about this family's old-fashioned dynamic. I hate the condescending, possessive energy between these two. I literally felt uncomfortable during this entire interview (I'd argue that is intentional).
The recurring and growingly tense persistence for the interviewer/producer to drink more tea. BIG red flag on this because my first thought is "Why?" I can understand being hospitable, but it seems like the interviewer has already been taken care of, so why the push? Jane is literally described as frantic, dodging the interviewer's questions entirely and hyper-focusing on the tea as if this is her role to play in what could be an unfortunate turn of events. On the other hand, John seems to be cheerily dismissive. I'm seeing skilled, practiced manipulation in the form of feigned charisma and charm - he doesn't ignore the questions but rather skillfully pivots and tries to keep things light and comfortable. His energy is notably different than the rest of the family, which makes him seem like the primary, skilled aggressor. He is keeping shit under control just enough to not raise suspicion, in my opinion.
But, most interesting to me, is their children's reactions to what is going on. The bio tells us so little about them, but their actions say so much. James, being a toddler and the youngest, obviously is going to be relatively clueless. But Jenn, the daughter, Sits quietly and stares ahead with an eerie blank expression. This feels like a traumatized, almost dissociative response. She seems removed in an anticipatory sense, on-brand for how a child might respond to signs of danger. I'd go as far to say that she is exhibiting one of the 5 fight and flight trauma responses; mainly the "freeze" response. The oldest son Joseph, on the other hand, is outwardly angry. He even leaves the room and slams the door as a response to the conversation, perhaps simply triggered by the mention of moving to Midnight Hollow, but I would venture to guess that he's also frustrated with the events taking place beyond that. After all, I would think that if there is anyone aware of the parent's possible nefarious nature and wrongdoings, it would be him. That being said, he's a teenager... but still a child, nonetheless. He unfortunately has little to no control, and it's clear that he's exhibiting a flight response, showing his own disdain as much as he can (a touch of fight in that door slam) while taking an opportunity to flee the scene. In the picture, their eldest son and daughter seem to be looking at them with... complex expressions. They're certainly not happy.
Tumblr media
The whole interview ends because the wife is "not feeling well," but that brings me back to my point about John being a skilled manipulator and the main aggressor running the web that his family is caught in: he would be able to cite when things are getting out of control. A predator knows when to strike and when to back off, and I think this is John's way of regaining control before too much is brought to light. Many people have been spared, unknowingly, from the clutches of a serial killer because they got lucky and the killer decided it wasn't the right place/right time - that's the vibe I'm getting, idk.
The energy around this family reminds me of an Ari Aster or a Jodan Peele psychological horror feel - everything is fine on the surface until it's not, and that tensity and complexity is disturbing and uncomfortable for the outsider (the audience) looking in, but it's usually just as disturbing for our growingly-aware protagonists (who, based on actions alone, I would argue could possibly be the eldest son and perhaps even the daughter, in this case). "The Stepford Wives" by Ira Levin has also been cited possible inspiration at least for Jane's motivations/role in the story. If you don't know about this story, I recommend checking it out.
As I researched, I was actually surprised with the amount of people who did not jump to the murderer route right off the bat. Some other theories include the family being hypnotized and even speculation that they might be robots (likely a take resulting from Levin's work).
Personally, I am more inclined to think that the parents are people with a wicked past, but it was interesting to read alternative takes. The robot and hypnotism theories are intriguing to me, but they neglect to explain the mysterious disappearance of the basement or the children's behaviors. Furthermore, the "brainwashed" and "repetitive" nature Jane has could just as much be signs of trauma/being in an unsafe environment/being forced to act against her will just as much as they could be literal signs of being robotic or hypnotized, so I don't think those things are necessary. Trauma, fear, and feeling trapped are enough to make a person act outside the realm of "normal."
Hell, I think I've only covered the surface here, but I've talked for so long lol. It seems their story might always just be a mystery left for speculation, sadly.
My boy Benoit Blanc says it best:

Some additional resources that I used below for any curious cats who made it this far:
The Doe family discussion on the sims forum
TS3 Reddit Thread on the Doe family
As for the Darers: from what I'm seeing, the theory that the wives were clones (or at the very least identical twins) makes sense to me. I put pictures of them below, and just from their CAS headshots you can definitely see that the girls are identical - there's gotta be some relation there
Tumblr media
Personally, I lean toward clones due to the traits being the same. Twins in the sims franchise have always had their own unique interests and traits, so these girls being near carbon-copies doesn't make sense if they're only sisters. Plus, the franchise loves clones (looking at you, two versions of Bella Goth in the Sims 2). For the era of franchise that TS3 was in, I feel like the team was still making the game lean toward whimsy and outlandish as opposed to realism.
Regardless of the relation these two girls share though, the fire death is suspicious and maybe the only thing that keeps this from feeling like an open and shut mystery. It also acts as another good reason to lean toward clones as opposed to sisters unless the fire was caused accidentally by Lacy herself. I think the cloning housefire theory is compelling, due to the girls not actually having a relationship with either of these guys explicitly on the family tree. I guess in that case they were actually their potential wives more than actual wives, which would explain why there's no marriage memory as well.
In some ways it's endearing that Juan would do all that, not just for himself but for his buddy as well, especially if it caused his house to burn down and ultimately push him out into a barn. In the end though, I think the whole cloning situation leans more toward weird when you consider the implications. If you have to invent a wife, you probably should just stay single my dude.
Last and unrelated sidenote: Harwood Clay's hair was an unexpected, horrifying surprise lmao.
Just from what you've told me, TS3 Twinbrook world had a lot of interesting characters. I had no idea that TS3 lore was even close in wackiness to TS2 and TS1, but my takeaway here is that we all should be more pissed off that TS4 premades are so dull.

the crow for the character ask meme
Send me a character, I'll do the prompt.
Tumblr media
THE CROW
Favourite Thing About Him
This one's another thing to which I'd say his design! I love the bird motif on his chest combined with the monochromatic color scheme.. And also he's cute LMAO
His character's intriguing to me and he's someone I'd love to learn more about!
Now for Uldren because I'm also going to double down and talk about him here too (even though they are technically two separate entities) I don't know enough about Uldren to really say much but I think he's pretty neat. Like Crow I wanna learn more about Uldren too, and based on what I do know Uldren was a fucking victim.
Least Favourite Thing About Him
The direction Bungie is going with him in Defiance. Just. This whole season has been somewhat of a trainwreck to the point where I don't even want to complete the story, just. Gimme my items and cosmetics, my emotes, and let me go. And Crow is especially where the writing for him is starting to fall flat.
As for Uldren, I'm not really too sure because I don't know that much about him yet, and "He killed Cayde" seems too straightforward and reductive of me as someone who enjoys learning about the lore and the characters within said lore.
Favourite Line
I don't know it exactly, but his quote about how he could "Never replace Cayde," and how he wants to see if he can organize the Hunters a bit, etc etc is one of my favourite little morsels from him. He would be pretty cool as a Vanguard I think!
As for lines from Uldren, I haven't been exposed enough to him and his dialogue to really choose one in particular. But what I do know about him is that he was one kick-ass antagonist in his time.
BrOTP
Amanda!! Why ship them when they can be best friends instead?
OTP
I don't have one.
NoTP
Also don't really have one yet.
Random Headcanon
Crow is a regular at all the Last City's goth clubs. He's there whenever he has time, mingling with others with similar interests to his own, or just lurking in the corner. But when it comes to it, when his favourite song comes on, he can absolutely kill it. Want to learn about goth dancing? He would be glad to show you. Ask him for goth music recs he's full of 'em.
As for Uldren, again I don't really have one.
Unpopular Opinion
I think that. Crow/Uldren is unfortunately one of those characters that attracts Really Weird (See: terrible people) Fans. And when I say "weird fans" I'm not referring to the innocence that is shipping OC/Canon, making fankids, fanfic, etc etc. What I mean are people who just. I can't describe it other than they're obsessed with Crow/Uldren but in a way that distinctively feels off. The type of person that likes [x character] and also falls under the demographic of people that are Why Fandoms Suck. (Some other examples of cool characters that attract The Worst include characters like Starscream from Transformers. If you know I'm sorry and you deserve compensation. If you don't, stay ignorant for your own good.)
I know Crow/Uldren isn't the only character within Destiny that has a following of a Certain Group Of People (I.E Cayde-6) but it's still something worth pointing out, and it also Answers The Question. I don't know what's with characters like Crow/Uldren, Cayde-6 and Starscream (among countless others) that very quickly become the black sheep of their respective community because of the behavior of certain fans (either the vocal minority or the majority) but man it's. A problem. To my knowledge Crow/Uldren fans have been chill so far but I've also heard of absolute horror stories LMAO. and i say this because I've seen both "Uldren/Crow Haters DNI" and "Uldren/Crow Fans DNI" about a dozen times now.
Song I Associate W/ Him
For Crow;

another character I need to build a playlist for! This one I think is like. Ugh. I don't know, it feels like something my Titan would send to him on a bad day.
"When we grew up, our shadows grew up, too. / But they're just old ghosts that we grow attached to. / The tragic flaw is that they hide the truth, / That you're enough, you're enough, you're enough, / I promise you're enough, you're enough, you're enough. / I promise you're enough, you're enough, you're enough."
For Uldren;

It's the general vibe and atmosphere of this song that does it for me I think. Another candidate was The Mind Electric.
"All / For nothing at all. / All, for nothing at all, / With something to prove. / I was in the forest looking to see the trees, / But none were there."
An honorary mention is King Volcano by Bauhaus. Another one that's mostly vibe-based.
"King Volcano gave me numbers / King Volcano is clean. / Lonely people burn like candles, / Only we are clean."

Sweetie, you may always infodump in my inbox ♡
Ceres, you are so going to regret this
I also may or may not have forgotten part of what I originally wanted to say, but uhhh... that is a detail which I generally hope I'll remember somewhere in the future hahahhsshhshshh anyway
The Narrator here is a bit based off of Pollux (I love your little guy + the lore you gave him ok– it's just so??? PERFECT???? my vocabulary is failing me today cough cough) when it comes to the whole "realizing what he truly wants after being trapped in a simulation of a higher being's making." what can The Narrator expect himself to do when his mind is actively avoiding itself? what can he—someone whose had his humanity taken away—even say when he doesn't remember who he was?
he's not even a who anymore. just a what.
he isn't a person anymore. just a weapon.
just The Narrator.
(yes I took note of what you said about Wolfwood only being dubbed as "The Punisher" because it was the name of his gun hahahahhs– I thought it would be a neat little detail to add I dunno)
(also the urge to name him after Kevan Brighting is astounding, but at the same time "Henry" as a name fits him so well I'm going to sob)
When Jim first came into the mix and was forced into the position of "a man named Stanley," it made everything worse. Mostly. Ish. I still have stuff to consider so ahem
The Narrator's connection to Jim's brain (through the rigged hearing aids) is primarily focused on stronger human responses, such as movement and emotion (speaking is out of the question for obvious reasons), but the main thing The Narrator is made to focus on are Jim's movements (because his voice is used to control those responses). He won't be able to know whether or not his narrations can actually affect Jim's emotions—the only thing he can rely on are his physical responses, since they're always strong enough for The Narrator to slightly feel himself.
That's one of the main reasons why his physical body is stuck inside a capsule—it's to freeze his own responses to what he thinks he is (physically) feeling. Frozen responses include twitching, flinching, or other knee-jerk/instinctual reactions like stepping away and/or using one's arms to block anything coming for their head. Facial expressions are included.
oh yeah, and one more thing:
Human emotions are also reactionary responses
Those are something that The Narrator can also feel, however, due to his main priority being Jim's/Stanley's physical responses, he rarely (if ever) decides to acknowledge them. The added depression in Jim's life doesn't exactly help, since there's this thing called "emotional blunting" that affects the way someone feels towards certain situations/people/things (no seriously, search it up).
As time goes on, Jim basically goes under the stages of grief, except that he's stuck in the "depression" stage.
(also I'm a big fan of placing what feels like logic and reasoning when it comes to fictional situations so uhhh I might go off-topic every once in a while to do that hhahahshshs)
As Stanley's (well, there goes Jim) mental state worsens, The Narrator's own understanding of his (and also his own) needs is so terribly distorted that he may as well be as inhumane as the people who stole his humanity. Barely a day goes by where Stanley genuinely feels something, and the most he does on his own is put on that face mask (the blue surgeon ones) and his old work outfit, since The Narrator deemed that those things were "the perfect inconspicuous disguise!"
They were originally sent to The Gang™ to give Vash rigged earphones that were similar to Stanley's (aka, Vash's aren't hearing aids) so that The Narrator could make him return to Millions Knives himself.
What could go wrong?
("Stanley's mental state will definitely still continue to worsen ofc ofc ofc," I said, y'know like a liar. "Those two definitely won't get better and finally realize that this isn't the life they actually want hahaaaa of course not...")
(I was originally going to make the entire thing in one part but hey my brain is fried + I wanted to know how you were liking the storyline I made so far :P)

Oooo, this is all so cool. I genuinely enjoyed reading this. Your rambles really are always so fun to read ♡
I'm just imagining how cool of a story this could make. I might be tempted to draw a few scenes if you have anything in particular you'd like to see 👉👈

While I’ve had a fantastic time with the recent event and all the cool lore around it, I can’t help but find the new Obelisk dragons somewhat…… out-of-place. We see the god of earth himself sculpt them from stone, name and individualize each with his own hands, and the end result just… doesn’t really look like an ‘earth’ dragon.
I really do love the art we got- the flowing hair adds good motion and elegance to the breed, and their big lion paws are very cute (the hatchling pose is one of my favs now!). I just think the design would have been better suited for a different element overall.
I understand they’re based off of stone guardian lions, which is a neat art direction, buuut the species just seems ill-fitting for their rocky homeland (and totally unrelated to Snappers). They mostly just resemble stout tundra/ manticore hybrids to me? And given that tundras already have a cousin strongly resembling them, we don't particularly need a 'tundra v.3' (as the announcement url so helpfully explains lol.)
While the Obelisk’s encyclopedia entry isn’t out yet, I’ve tried to keep the design elements of the 'protector + harbinger’ role they’ve been tasked with. They’re large, stocky, and powerful, but also more suited to their environment & offering cover for their fellow dragons.
The threat the Obelisks need to defeat is an underground menace, unearthed from a deep series of caves. It seems to be able to move through stone? Or is somehow able to pull its prey through the earth- an Obelisk should be able to quickly pursue it! (If the art we got just at least had sturdy claws for digging I would be happy, lol. Feline claws would blunt far too quickly on stone!)
Here's a comparison between the claws of a tiger, and those of a brown bear. Notice that while both would be very good at murdering you, the bear's claws are longer & flatter, instead of being such a sharp, hooked shape. This makes them more efficient at moving earth, while also being lethal weapons!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The features I picked for this earthy-er design are general a mix of bear (1, 2, 3), ankylosaur (1, 2, 3), & armadillo (1, 2, 3) anatomy. (Seriously, have you seen armadillo hands? The giant armadillo is such a perfect source of inspo for an earth dragon. Please put these claws on something, FR, I'm begging you.) These Obelisks have well-muscled forelimbs, which are capped with long, flat claws. They have toughened hide plates running along their backs, with osteoderms lining their flanks. Their heads are flatter and wedge-shaped (though I’ve kept the under-bite, cute lil’ ears, and a bristly mane). Their tails are flattened into a spade- useful for defense, shoveling earth, or slamming into the ground to communicate. Lastly, their wings- they have 2 robust digits for tunneling, and the leathery membranes have been reinforced with fibers and scutes (this makes them pretty useless for flight, but perfect for defending smaller dragons).
Tumblr media
These features are entirely directed by the Earthshaker's own words for what Obelisks were built to do. They need be able to:
1.) warn others of danger
2.) protect their kin
3.) and battle... whatever the threat is lurking under Dragonhome.
For this, they need to have strength, a range of defensive abilities, and the ability to combat a ground-based enemy. I think that being a 45-foot-long burrowing tank, with a hide of steel, and huge wings tough enough to stop arrows is the epitome of the earth's protectiveness and power.
Obelisks' armor is so thick and strong because it is made of love for their kin. How better to show the paternal affection of their father than to take an army's worth of blows for their family? While these guys might look scary, I think they're still gentle giants at heart.
Since they’re a newborn species with no known culture/ behavior of their own yet, they’re kinda… a blank slate rn (hopefully that lore article comes out soon). I see Obelisks as statuesque behemoths, watching over their tiny Snapper cousins as their clans travel across the steppes. Perhaps they use the pounding of their great weight to speak across vast distances, to warn other dragons whenever danger is near? Or maybe they can produce far-reaching, low-frequency rumbles, like elephants? I think the 'harbinger' aspect of their lore should be emphasized just as much as their 'guardian' qualities.
-----
Well, even though I don’t dislike the Obelisks’ current design, I can only hope the next breed we get has a more… distinct elemental concept. (If I have to wait 10 years for water to get ’tundra but with a tail fin’……. sigh.)
