nah but listen.
i love ashnard.
THIS is what makes him such a great villain.
no excuses. no bullshit. no sad backstory.
sometimes it’s nice to have an antagonist who isn’t evil, but nowadays it’s so rare. sometimes it’s nice to have a true villain who doesn’t want to be pitied or seen as a “hero”, and won’t mince words when he’s confronted about his actions.
#DCB Comments#DCB PoR Run#like... BK was a great villain too.... until RD smashed that with a hammer against him being an armored unit#even RD never tried to do that with Ashnard and let him stay the absolute shitbag he always was#a shitbag respected by some people too! even Sothe used to appreciate his way of thinking#he didn't pity him or think Crimea was evil for fighting against him. he knew what Ashnard was doing was wrong#but he didn't disagree with his methods of ruling. Ashnard wanted a meritocracy which might have sounded good in question#but all he cared about in people was power and strength. he believed the weak deserved to be ruled over#like. he's a shitbag plain and simple. he had a decent idea but one that in practice was detrimental#it's not like he didn't know it and he didn't make excuses for why it was a good thing#he also never talked shit about Crimea in the manner of how its leaders ruled. he didn't really care what other people did#he was just extremely wrapped up in his own beliefs and super into his own power#there was no gray area for whether or not he was doing bad shit. decent idea yes but from an awful person#and I love how the game didn't try to skirt around that and make him get this sad backstory to make him seem better#even in RD we STILL learn about shitty things he did prior to PoR's timeline!#I've always been so glad they never tried to erase the character they wrote in RD or Heroes#imo THIS is how you handle a villain that you're having antagonize other people and nations#no sympathy. they just tell you like it is and you accept that without trying to make excuses for the character#good for fucking you ashnard good for fucking you

its really something how much naruto advocates for friendship and caring for others in part one considering how little of that was offered to him for most of his childhood. when he did receieve it it hit him so hard he can't stand for anyone taking it for granted
#fillers are beautiful and amazing#yes sometimes they are stupid#but if theyre stupid in like wow why are the kids picking flowers LET THEM PICK FLOWERS#no but actually he gets so angry and feral he had to be physically held back...#in the first part his pushing his views onto others is so different from shippuden#bc its him genuinely not understanding how some people dont just inherently care and give up their whole selves to be loved#its him getting angry seeing people not appreciate their friends and giving up when they could still achieve their dreams#bc thats all him he sees a little of himself in everyone#its how he connects and in the first part its great bc again#hes not some hero#hes just some rowdy angry 12 y/o orphan ninja#but he cares so so so much#and like kakashi said he IS a good guy to have on your side bc once he believes it he believes so hard#and its also beautiful bc again he projects. hard. but once he gets to know whatever filler client#he always always always understands#even the ones he clashes with#he still understands and respects them and learns about the shinobi world#and how the system affects individuals#but in SHIPPUDEN him projecting and getting angry is all.#village based. wtf how could you not love the village.#bc that inherent caring and need of approval and desire to fulfill his dreams....#has gotten attached to his need for approval from the village and how much he was affected by their mistreatment#but since he refuses to accept HE was mistreated and does NOT need their approval actually#he keeps projecting those same ideas to others and getting upset when they dont feel the same bc its been#so embedded into him now#naruto.. my best friend naruto......

Hi!! So sorry to bother but I’m been fixated on Moon Knight for awhile and I haven’t seen any fics on Tumblr about the moon boys with a plus size!reader. When you had a sec, I’d appreciate maybe hcs about how they’d be with a chubby!reader!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦
Warnings: There's some mentions of reader being made fun of for their body and weight. Marc needs therapy but he refuses joke. Calling out Jake for being horny and that he would want reader to sit on his face but there's no actual smut or anything like that.
Author’s Snip: As a chubby/plus size person. I adore this request thank you so much, anon
I’ll shut up now. Enjoy! And don’t be afraid to request.
꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷꒷꒦
Steven Grant
Steven has hearts in his eyes
He thinks you're so lovely with how soft you are
Literally doesn't mind one bit
Calls you his favorite stress toy because he likes to cuddle and squeeze you when he feels upset or stressed out, so it's endearing
He likes to lay his head on your thighs and stomach because its the softest parts of you
He will fall asleep and take a nap there and it will be the best sleep he's ever had
Him, Marc, and Jake could spend the whole night doing MoonKnight work and all he would need is an hour long nap and he's completely rejuvenated till he's able to come back home and actually get some sleep. It's crazy
Steven of course hates confrontation but would tell someone to leave you alone as soon as they start making comments about you
He hugs you from behind a lot and just stays there for a minute
Something about holding you and feeling how warm and soft you are just fixes everything that's making him upset
It's like a child with a teddy bear or blanket. He just holds you and everything's okay
Marc Spector
"I don't need therapy, I have chubby s/o"
So the whole holding you for a while and everything is okay effect also works on Marc
He could be having an episode where he's closed off and not doing well with communicating his feelings and then you just come in and give him a hug and it helps him come off of it a little
Marc has this habit of grabbing some of your chub or the parts of you that are squishy like you waist or cheeks, sometimes the butt if he's feeling more flirty
He actually doesn't know why he does it either
It's not to be mean. There's just something about holding it that scratches something in his brain just right
Your softness gives him a good amount of free serotonin and dopamine, that is why he uses cuddling and holding you as therapy
If anyone says shit then he's telling them to shut the fuck up with no hesitation
Marc refuses to believe that he falls asleep easily when you hold him. But with the softness of your body, the warmth, and you calmly breathing... he sleeps like a fucking baby
Literally nothing will wake him up, manz is gone
Jake Lockley
Jake Lockley is a man who firmly believes that chubby lovers are where it's at
To him, you being heavy means that you eat good
He is canonically a horny bastard so I think he'd like the extra chub because he also believes in more cushion for the pushin'
He likes to pick you up. It makes his ego bigger to show off how strong he is
Will literally bully someone for making fun of your body and weight
Jake calls guys who don't like chubby women/people "boys" because to him real men like them soft and heavy. If you can't pick them up then start lifting so you can and stop crying about it
When you two cuddle he's the big spoon every time. He likes holding you like that because it feels like he's holding a living pillow with how soft you are
Makes you sit on his lap, all the time, no buts
No you are not crushing him, he has thighs of steel and he's a literal vigilante hero who works with a god of the moon. Sit on his lap. It's fine
His hand is constantly, chronically, on your thigh. And he squeezes it a lot too
He is an ass man, yes, but all parts are good to him
And also, respectively... sit on his face please
If he suffocates that's fine. That's the way the gods intended him to go
Lives by the thickness and would die by the thickness

Respect Her Journey
I want to talk about this piece of art that Horikoshi drew that probably has bkdks hissing and screeching at the sight of, and izuochas fist-pumping and going yeaaah! my ship is endgame!
Nono, don't be afraid, look at it! It'll be okay I promise.
Tumblr media
It's beautiful, I hate it, you might say, as a bkdk.
Anyway, this was the tweet I lifted this art from.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, pay attention to them falling! Some people might take this to mean falling in love, or whatever. I cannot comment on what Horikoshi meant by this statement, because he has proven to be a cryptic little nuisance of a troll. I will however, examine his inspiration for this piece and tell you why this is not him saying that Izuocha is endgame.
Um, incoming spoilers for Spirited Away if that wasn't obvious. If you've not watched it, I implore you to do so yesterday. It's a one of the greatest movies of all time.
Spirited Away: a story about Chihiro, a timid girl who ventures into the spirit world for the sake of her parents. (Wait? What? Sound familiar?) There's more.
In order to redeem her parents, she starts working in an environment that showcases all the worst parts of capitalist society
She befriends a boy named Haku, who she goes on adventures with
She meets No Face, a child-like spirit who lacks love and eats people while taking on their characteristics
She gives Haku back his name and breaks his curse with the power of love
She saves her parents and returns to the normal world having grown from her adventure and faces the future with confidence
Can we please appreciate the parallels between these two stories?
Bathhouse -> Hero Society: The overseer takes Chihiro's name, who becomes Sen. Just like Ochaco becomes Uravity. The public no longer sees her as a child. She is now a hero and they are free to expect things from her, like to fight in a war on their behalf. Urakaka is now fighting against her own bathhouse.
Haku -> Deku: Chihiro gives Haku his name back, just like Ochaco gives Deku a new meaning to his name, breaking the curse that Deku means "useless". Ochaco draws strength from at first, but she has since come to realize he is not invincible and that he himself needs saving.
No-Face -> Toga Himiko: Chihiro fascinates No-Face. Just like Toga Himiko the unloved girl, is fascinated with Ochaco for her goodness and being everything that she longs to be. Urakaka's character arc is tied up with Himiko and her struggle to save her smile.
There's probably more to unpack here, but these are the few that stood out to me right away. I'm lazy.
Now that we've established that Ochaco is Chihiro and Deku is Haku, remember that this falling scene in the movie is the climax. This is where Chihiro recognizes Haku for who he is and gives him back his identity. It is both a hello and a goodbye.
OOoooh! But Haku and Chihiro are in love! a certain braindead subset might retort--just no. I shouldn't have to mention how problematic it is to ship a ten year old with anybody, or that Chihiro is based on a real ten year old girl that Miyazaki knew--there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Haku is Chihiro's dead older brother, but I won't get into that. Look it up if it interests you. In short, it's platonic. PLATONIC.
Anyway, though Chihiro and Haku have benefitted from their friendship, ultimately they are headed in different directions.
Just like Ochaco and Deku are headed in different directions.
Tumblr media
So please, please, don't hate this art. It's beautiful. Just like Ochaco is a beautiful character who has worked hard to be who she is. Stop trying to pigeonhole her as the love interest. It's insulting and she's fought that role kicking and screaming.
I also leave this with you. It is an excerpt from an interview with Miyazaki on his movie Spirited Away:
I felt this country only offered such things as crushes and romance to 10-year-old girls, though, and looking at my young friends, I felt this was not what they held dear in their hearts, not what they wanted. And so I wondered if I could make a movie in which they could be heroines...
I'm not saying that Horikoshi is absolutely taking Miyazaki's intentions as his own, but it's something.

I want to echo all the nice things people have said about your work, and add one more: I appreciate that your blog offers space to mourn the Holocaust. Not the Holocaust as a metaphor, not the Holocaust as a rhetorical invocation, but the Holocaust in and of itself. It provides a sobering kind of relief. When I was a kid learning about the Holocaust, my classes always showed me Life is Beautiful and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (UGH) and one teacher insisted that she wanted me to understand "how the Jews kicked Hitler's ass!" Which... no. On so many levels. So I admire how your work holds the dialectical truths of mass tragedy and brave resistance. Your scholarship matters, your mental health matters, and I can't wait to read your book next year!
This message is so lovely I was too verklempt to even answer it last night. Thank you, so much, for taking the time to write and send this.
And yes I totally get what you mean. It's not some, as you put it, rhetorical invocation populated by faceless martyrs, but the very real murders of millions of real, flawed, living, breathing humans. I think the rhetorical version, with its ideologies and hagiographies, is easier to swallow.
I hate most Holocaust movies. At least, American ones. They just want so badly for there to be a happy ending and...the Holocaust doesn't have one. [Unnamed legendary Jewish director] optioned the rights to [book similar in scope to mine which came out in the last 4 years] and I'm not even upset, because I don't enjoy that director's gentile-focused quasi-uplifting attempts to depict said events. Hitler said he was going to destroy the majority of European Jewry, and he did. In the space of 12 years he destroyed civilizations, cultures, and languages spanning 1000+ years; more, if you hold him responsible for the ethnic cleansing of MENA Jewish communities post-1948. Nothing uplifting there.
That's why I think I like weird, post-modern, magical realist approaches to Holocaust fiction [see: my boyfriend recently convinced me to watch Jojo Rabbit and Inglorious Basterds]. Telling any of these stories doesn't fit into Western narrative conventions. So make it weird; have the characters dance to David Bowie; make it a Western with subtitles; make the audience wonder if magic or just mundane in the specific context of the story. That's, imo, the only way to capture the sheer unreality of these very real events in fiction. I would LOVE a work of magical realist Holocaust fiction that involves the golem of Prague (if it exists omg tell me!) or something similar. Keeping in mind, of course, that I'm neither a film not a literary scholar. Just, as a historian who took one cultural criticism course in undergrad, those feels the most...right.
And oy your teacher. I feel for her; this is a difficult subject to teach. But...the Jews didn't kick Hitler's ass. That's the opposite of what happened. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is the most famous instance of organized Jewish resistance to the Holocaust, and those fighters only kicked ass until the Nazis (quickly) realized that they needed reinforcements and flamethrowers because oops these Jews came prepared. And even the fighters themselves knew that they weren't going to "win" anything. They were making a symbolic historical gesture/statement and fully expected to die. To the point that survivors almost uniformly express in their memoirs and testimonies that the ones who died fighting were the only real heroes and they rest of them are nbd, and this isn't something that should be talked about (which, is something that I'm trying to respect in my book! Like the fact that Zivia Lubetkin utterly rejected any attempt to describe her as a hero matters, even though that's how I personally view her).
Anyway I've rambled enough. Thank you again for the message!

Hey bud! If you had to give your favorite voice a favorite movie, what would it be? And would their matching vessel like or dislike it?
I know this wasn’t the assigned task, but I couldn’t resist–
Here’s me headcanoing a fave film for every single voice and their respective princess’ opnion on it–
Hero: Shrek 2. No it is NOT just because of the Holding Out For a Hero scene, tho that is a very nice scene that always makes him start bouncing on his seat the moment it starts playing. It isn’t Default Princess’ favorite (she prefers Shrek 1), but she still appreciates the satire and subversion of common fairy tale tropes and the exploration of Shrek’s character here.
Contrarian: The Emperor’s New Groove. It’s memeable, it’s funny, it has such iconic characters, what else could he ask for? Stranger likes what they saw of it well enough, but they can’t really bring themselves to focus on a movie for the entirety of it. Would rather be doing something that requires them to be proactive.
Cheated: Fight Club. I haven’t watched Fight Club myself, but from what I hear from it, sounds like something Cheated might enjoy. Razor isn’t allowed anywhere near a TV.
Cold: Inside Out. Am I projecting? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. She watches Inside Out over and over again, imagining those little emotion guys as some of its friend, and getting a weird tight feeling in its chest when the control panel starts going gray because of Riley’s increasingly depressive state. Spectre likes the movie :)
Paranoid: Paranorman (I didn’t realize how similar those names are, but holy shit that’s funny), she finds Norman’s struggles to fit in and being seen as a ‘weirdo’ relatable and finds the way he’s fascinated with horror weirdly compelling. Both the fact it’s a stop-motion movie, and that it’s ‘children’s horror’ helps Paranoid feel safe watching it, and she doesn’t even jerks her arms once! Nightmare finds the zombies funny and gets… weirdly emotional during reveal at the end.
Hunted: The Lion King. It’s pretty, it’s colorful, the scenery and characters makes it feel at home, and it’s really compelled by the lion hamlet storyline. Beast tries to paw at every animal on screen and starts howling sadly when Mufasa dies.
Opportunist: Says it’s The Devil Wears Prada, but actually, it’s Legally Blond. The musical, specifically. Constantly has ‘Gay or European?’ playing in his head. Witch also loves The Legally Blond musical and is constantly grumpy that it’s also Oppy’s favorite.
Stubborn: Kung Fu Panda. It has FIGHTS, it has a panda struggle to become stronger, it has a compelling emotional core, he loves that shit! Adversary prefers John Wick, personally, but she’s also cheering for that white leopard guy every time he’s on screen (yeah, she knows he’s the villain, so what?).
Broken: Winnie the Pooh. It’s comforting and so nice to watch! It always makes them feel better. Tower doesn’t concern herself with this kind of leisure.
Smitten: The Princess Bride. Do I need to explain this one? Damsel also likes it, though she prefers Enchanted; especially the animated bits, she finds animation much more compelling than live action. :D
Skeptic: Knives Out. The mystery is compelling, the characters are engaging, and the set design! Skeptic could spend hours dissecting every frame of this movie and he did. Prisoner thought the culprit was too easy to figure out.
Extras–
Long Quiet is very fond of the Rio movie, while Shifty really likes Everything, Everywhere, All at Once (she’s also fond of The Lego Movie :))

Just sitting here, quietly thinking about the fact that it turns out the attempt to save KPTS started on June 20, 2021. Because Filmania's problems in producing the show first became public on July 4th. And they only officially canceled the show on July 13th.
Apo tweeted on July 4th, and his brief words seemed to reflect the depths of his upset and disappointment.
Tumblr media
But if Mile was taking action even before that in order to save the show, it means he saw what was coming. It means he understood the likely fate of the project before it was known for sure, he didn’t bury his head in the sand when he saw the worrisome signs, and he cared enough about KPTS, about the people involved that he had bonded with (and I believe more than anyone else on set, about Apo) that he took steps to prevent that reality from materializing even before it became a fact.
I have no words for how much I appreciate this man, his comprehension, his resolve and dedication, his caring, investment and passion. I have no doubt that Apo was a huge part of saving the show, too. Not just in terms of providing Mile with a huge chunk of the motivation to do it. I’m convinced that Apo was an active part of the efforts behind the scenes, providing crucial contributions. But nothing would have happened without Mile and I think he deserves credit for that. His efforts are not something that could have reasonably been expected of him. So let me say how much I'm grateful for him, for the fire in his bones despite how chill he always comes across, and for the bond that these two share that might have helped ignite the flame.
Tumblr media
As a queer person, I can’t stress enough how much I love KPTS. How convinced I am that good representation matters. How close I hold Kinn and Porsche to my heart. How human this show made its queer characters and with how much dignity it treated them IMO. How freeing it was to see this celebration of queer love in all its forms, including the sexual ones. Yes, treating the sexuality of queer characters with respect and even joy, allowing them to do more than chastely kiss, that is incredibly important, too. That’s a part of what turns them into flesh and bone, not merely cardboard cutouts. No matter what the origins of the need to save the show, I have no doubt that the good it brought about grows exponentially (yes, as long as people keep discovering and watching the show, it will continue to grow), far beyond what Mile and Apo might have dreamed of when they first set out to try and make the show happen despite the fact that, as actors, that was never their designated role.
My heroes. Two kings. I’m so glad you met again. I’m so grateful for all the good that that is (i.e that you two are) responsible for.

I apologize for sending this via anon and I don’t want to make the situation worse but I only wish to share my thoughts with you.
Character development is not as important as some make it out to be, unless something is known for having static characters and one of them happens to have a development boost. Then yes, I agree said character will without doubt stand out but nobody in Dialovers has such a shocking development that makes everyone else look like less in comparison.
More people would prefer character growth over character development in that case. If a character is shown learning new things, learning from experiences, getting more mature and gaining more insights than at the beginning then that character will be seen as wonderful. This is exactly why Ayato is easy to love for many. Development can be cliché such as when characters go from bad to good or from hating life to appreciating it. Sure guys, it’s nice seeing them develop like that but those tropes are already too overused and sometimes people will seek for something fresh.
As for why Ayato is the ML, that’s because MLs in otome games have to inherently be active, stoic, fearless and good-hearted. For short, like heroes in fairy tales. Someone cold-hearted or distant can be a cool love interest but not a good ML. ML are guys who’d sacrifice themselves for their family, nation and love interest without development. You can turn a love interest into a hero but the main hero is a hero without needing love to be turned into one.
// SOMEONE WHO KNOWS!! Also no worries about being on Anon mode, I don’t have any problem as long as it’s respectful.
All characters went through some development but it’s very true that none of them had an outstanding one in the otoge industry. I agree with you that development only really counts as an argument that makes a character better when it’s seen as something revolutionary in that particular field.
I wish people would stop holding main characters at such an impossible standard. Only because they’re the leading roles of the story, doesn’t mean they have to be the smartest, sweetest or most complex characters out there. The traits you mentioned are the perfect examples. A main hero is basically a mentally strong, brave, determined, pure-hearted and self-sacrificing guy, who has always been like that. I also love your last sentence! Some people are influenced by others to become heroes while others are heroes because that is in their own nature.
As for Ayato, love him or not, he serves the main hero purpose better than everyone and that’s not an opinion, but facts. If he didn’t, then he wouldn’t get so praised for that. It’s even mentioned in an interview how Ayato is a character that can easily become a mainstay (first pic), given that he got that main character aura, backstory and charisma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This will be my last post about this. Everyone is allowed to have their favs but at least put some respect on Ayato’s name, since he did indeed bring a lot of success to DL. You don’t have to be his stan, just appreciate his role.

YOUR CHOICES ARE YOURS FOR A REASON
Your choices are yours because they will impact YOUR LIFE. Not mommy's life or daddy's life, not your gossiping loving neighbour's life and certainly not your second cousin's ex girlfriend's sister's best friend's life. YOUR LIFE, is the one that will be impacted by the path you choose to follow.
Yes, I know. All of us up to some point wanted our parent's to be proud. Even people who hide it deep inside want to succeed just to get the "I'm proud of you" talk from their father. Guess what though ? Even though most people want their parents to be proud of them and follow their guidance, 95% of people are not truly happy in their life. This also goes for people who are trying to please their social circle or go and do what society deems "right". They are stuck in unloving marriages, work like slaves and go home only to plop on the couch and proceed to spend 6 hours on their phone watching other people live their dreams. That's a side picture I painted...
My dad wanted me to be a lawyer. When I chose to study History & Philosophy Of Science he was shocked. Why ? Cause that meant something to him. He has always idolized lawyers. He does not see that the ones who make it are extremely passionate and ambitious. I know that my dad still hopes I will one day get into law school. Sometimes he catches me working on my laptop and he sighs out loud (Eastern European Father ✅) and says "Everything is okay but you didn't get a law degree.". I'm like bitch stfu. I make my own money, I'm building streams of income that will allow me to be financially independent and to live wherever I want, what are you talking about ? The crazy thing is that my father was a business owner and always pushed me towards entrepreneurship! Even he did not escape the dogma of our society. Why would I do "The monk who sold his Ferrari" in reverse. Leave my passion and life's calling behind and move overseas to work in corporate America to have my soul sucked. He then laughs and proceeds to tell me a story about one of his friends who is loaded and his father always wanted him to be a doctor and made remarks all the time, even when he signed million $ checks !
If you know what you want to go after, you are lucky. Most people end up in sticky situations because they had no direction. They follow others' directions causing them to be unhappy and resentful. I made my choice because I loved my parents and I didn't want to have resentment towards them when I was waiting for my welfare check. No one can guarantee you will find a job easily in this day and age. I believe that social sciences are much more important than our technocratic society makes them to be. They are the backbone of our civilization. I could never become a doctor even though I respect and appreciate them for their service. Same goes for police officers. I have friends who are in the force and they are amazing, sweet and true heroes but I could not be like them and they could not do what I do.
Forgive your parents. Most of them are trying to protect us from a crazy world but sometimes they harm us more in the process. Listen to the elders when they speak but learn to logically reason within.
Being an astrologer and helping people uncover their purpose is very liberating. It makes you realize how our world was shaped so the best would come on top. You have all the tools, make the best out of them and go after your goals.
Because in the end, you'll be proud of yourself.

Omg, i loved the idol one! What about Blade and Luocha and Welt Yang and hmm... Gepard with a reader who was an idol in her teenage years?? Like for if you play Project Sekai, theres a group called More More Jump who are teenaged idols. Thats just an example though! The boys see her group all over whatever social media they have if they decide to search it up, and even listen to a few of her groups songs! Have a good day!
Hi! Yes let’s do it!
-Honkai star rail men with a fem!reader who was a teen idol-
Blade: Blade I…really doubt would be able to recognize you as a teen idol. He doesn’t really listen to music, let alone keep up with the music world. Imagine excitingly showing you an old music video of yours! He doesn’t really react, but he does start listening to your music now that he knows. Don’t expect to ever hear him hum or sing your songs though, he’s Blade, he doesn’t do that.
Luocha: Luocha is a very well traveled man. He recognized you immediately when you first met. He wasn’t necessarily a fan of your works, but since meeting you he began to investigate more into your music and videos, and he must admit, you weren’t bad, weren’t bad at all. Would he consider himself a fan now? Yeah probably.
Welt Yang: I’m afraid Welt Yang would probably have no idea who you were when he first met you. But then he watches your videos, and honestly he was pretty impressed. That was you? He doesn’t really know how to react to meeting someone who’s essentially famous, but he does his best to be his usual, respectable self around you. He begins listening to your music after that, and honestly? He appreciated it.
Gepard Landau: Gepard Landau would have a hard time admitting it, but he was actually a fan of yours when the two of you were teenagers. He listened to you all the time, and was introduced to you by Serval and he was immediately hooked. And meeting you now as an adult, oh he feels like a kid again, meeting his hero. He knows all your videos by heart already.

Since I started being part of the Sonic fandom and the Sonamy fandom i've noticed both of them had quite simmilar misunderstoods towards amy's character.
And it's... Amy never was created to be an "obssesive girl" "an obssesive fangirl" "an obssesive girl who only thinks about Sonic and nothing else"
And this is a consequence of the bad localization Sonic had in the West and how they didn't understand Amy's character, a girl who was created with many qualities japanese people love but the west considers it "weird", still affects her character to this day at this point we're many hear by mouth and mouth how Amy is but never had the thought of thinking "all of this is true?"
Look at this comparison between japanese!Sonic and American!Sonic and how different they treat Amy (minute 1:50 - 3:29)
https://youtu.be/PiSVTpRCGXA?si=cF_eEzFO5N3BPFQO
Thanks to this majority of western fans thought Sonic was always mad at Amy when in reality that was not the original intention and destroys all the concept of "obssesive" and "fangirl" were she cared for birdie and protected Gama from Sonic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A girl who always tries to be better, helping people many wouldn't pay attention but she knows they need help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A girl who is conscious she has to work hard than his friends with super powers
Tumblr media
And Sonic being one of her main inspirations 'cause he represents what she wants to become: being free, going on your own having adventures, the excitement everything against the boring
And you would say "but in heroes she was an obssesive fangirl😭"
No, the fandom scaled the proportions and couldn't handle a single innofensive joke
Amy knew exactly exactly what she was doing telling him to "Marry him" as a joke. He would low his defenses and cause him to feel embarrassed and nervous 'cause she knows he's terrible at romance or i'm general, feelings
And many forgot that in the game Amy didn't know exactly why Sonic, Tails and knuckles we're together. In the beggining Amy saw Sonic in the paper and told us she hasn't seen Sonic in weeks and when she saw them thought they were just hanging out.
I'm talking about the girl who all the game supported, encouraging Cream and Big to rescue Chocola and Froggy and they needed someone as determinante, courageous as Amy who reminded her friends how brave they are
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
She even shows appreciation and love for the landscapes (just like Sonic)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"But- but in later games she was so obssesive and fangirl for Sonic 😭" Again bad localization for the west when in the original sources she was handled bit better than the West.
Also, Western has an obssesive to always point out the bad interpretations of female characters and saying why they are "the worst" "the most annoying characters" when at the same time try so hard to prove why this interpretation of a male character is not "bad enough" or "not the worst" and why even with bad characterizations he is still the best **cough****cough** Sonic and shadow respectively **cough****cough**
The character is not perfect, that's a reality.
She has strenghts and flaws that made her unique on her own. Her love for her friends (yes, this includes Sonic), the animals, the good and "Bad" robots and even characters who we're "devil"... She saw good, hope and love for them. She decides to help them being at their sides to show them there's always the option to chose a good path
She is the heart of all teams, she brings happines and hope to everyone. That's why all the cast loves and appreciates her and never refered to her like fandom does. That should tell you something
Tumblr media
Personally I don't agree with the idea of "Amy is not an obssesive girl anymore and now she is a strong cute girl" when she has a l w a y s been a strong cute, bubbly, sassy, kinda bratty, compassive, energetic, silly girl but many think this is new when it's always been in front of you, you just decided to finally see the character and not prejuices

Deciphering the Will-El-Mike Love Triangle: A Personal Perspective
I stopped liking Mileven as a couple way before I started shipping Byler, and the reason had nothing to do with Will, actually.
As someone who appreciates both El’s and Mike’s characters, I firmly believe they were always meant to be friends. They care deeply about each other, but their relationship has felt forced for a very long time. The main reason I stopped liking them as a couple is that I didn’t like how Mike treated El at the beginning of S3, which led El to “dump his ass.” Subconsciously, Mike believed he knew what was better for her and, without realizing it, hindered her from developing her own personality. Also, he wasn’t always good to her in S1 when he used her to find Will and snapped at her a few times. Don’t get me wrong – Mike is not a bad person, and he did many good things for El, but they simply didn’t seem to work as a couple. All they did when things went well was kiss and make out. They didn’t have any common interests or things to talk about, only the Upside Down-related adventures. This is one of the reasons I find their couple boring: when physical attraction is the only thing keeping you romantically interested in someone, it won’t last.
I watched all four seasons as a GA member, and my opinion is based on what I saw from this show. I didn’t even think about Will when considering El and Mike initially – this is just something I noticed when watching the show. Yes, I suspected Will had feelings for Mike since S3 came out but didn’t think they could possibly be reciprocated at that time. My initial thought was, “Aww, poor Will, I feel bad for him.” This thought only strengthened after watching S4. My love for Will as a character grew, and I felt a protective instinct towards him (much like Joyce, haha), but he is not the reason I think Mileven doesn’t work. Observing El and Mike’s relationship in S4 only made me like them as a couple even less. I don’t think Mike was scared of saying “I love you” just because he felt worthless and was afraid of losing her. I think there’s something deeper than that. Otherwise, why did the season finish with El being annoyed at him after his “brilliant” monologue? And let's not forget the reason why Mike finally said he loved El and who pushed him to do that.
I also believe that both El and Mike are incredible characters and their own heroes, but they just don’t bring out the best in each other. El does need someone to care for her and make her feel loved, but she needs a familial kind of love much more than a romantic one. And she has always needed people who would love her no matter what and wouldn’t make her feel like she can only be loved if she’s a “superhero.” She needs someone who would love her regardless of whether she has her powers or not. And she needs someone with whom she would still be independent and her own person. And I don’t think Mike is right for her in this respect.
Likewise, I don’t think El can give Mike what he needs. He doesn’t just want someone to kiss and make out with; he needs more than that. He needs someone who would share his hobbies and interests; someone who would understand him without saying a word; someone who is simply there for him and is always willing to support him; someone who makes him feel loved no matter what. I don’t think that El and Mike can love each other romantically under any circumstances. I think they started a relationship with their ideal images of each other in mind but later struggled because they felt they both didn’t live up to each other’s perfect images of themselves. And that’s what makes this relationship doomed to fail.
And then, you know what happened? It suddenly dawned on me, shedding light on many things I hadn’t quite understood at the beginning. It was that kind of moment when you think, “Oh, so that’s why! It has always been there but it took me so long to figure it out!”
There is exactly the kind of person in the series that can make Mike feel loved the way he wants to. The character that shares his interests and hobbies and is always there for him. The one that loves Mike unconditionally and is always ready to sacrifice his own feelings just to make his love feel better about himself, feel worthy and needed. This character has been there all along, and this character’s name is – you guessed it right – Will. And I wouldn’t be saying all of this if I believed Mike was totally straight, and could never love Will the way the latter loves him.
From the very first season, the show makes it clear that Mike and Will’s relationship is not the same as the one boys their age usually have (compare it to Lucas and Dustin’s, for example). We are both told and shown that Mike cares about Will much deeper than anyone else in their circle of friends, and he’s the one who was losing his mind, thinking he had lost Will but nevertheless never stopped looking. Mike is someone who’s always been ready to do anything for Will, to be there for him when he had nightmares and was possessed, and bike to him through the storm just to apologize for hurting his feelings. Mike has always cared about Will very deeply, and even though with time the societal pressures forced him to set some boundaries of what is allowed between two male friends, Mike often “slipped” and demonstrated his gentleness and attentiveness towards Will. The way he often looks at Will and the things he says to him when they’re alone make me believe he has feelings for him even more. He may not fully realize them yet, he may be confused about those feelings, and he may certainly convince the GA that he’s straight, but those feelings are there and just haven’t come out yet. He needs time to understand himself better and feel ready to acknowledge his feelings.
And returning to El, I strongly believe that her arc is leaning towards independence. She desperately needs to break free from everything and everyone that has been holding her back, to start living for herself at last and become her own person. This is how she can finally get her happy ending. And I think that Mike-friend can help her achieve that much better than Mike-boyfriend. As Max implied, El needs to discover herself without thinking about what her loved ones want her to be, and this is the right way for her character to develop. El is amazing and deserves happiness, as do Will and Mike.
Please note that this is my personal opinion and the impression I got from watching the show. You’re completely free to disagree with me and have a totally different perspective. If you ship Mileven or dislike Byler, simply move on. I’m sharing my thoughts here for those who I know will support them, and I’m not here to engage in ship wars. I’m not going to interact with you if you’re here to spit bile and troll those who don’t have the same opinion as you. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk. :)

Thank you for @mysteriouslover1516 for asking me this interesting question.
How do I imagine Jake?
(Please refrain from reading this if you haven't completed the game as this contains some spoilers. :) I recommend you to finish the game and come back to read this after).
I imagine Jake as a reserved personality. I imagine his life to be difficult and much of a loner. That's why he's easily feeling shy.
He prefers to appear mysterious because he needs to maintain his identity a secret, being chased by the government and all, he appears creepy to most others but he doesn't feel scary or creepy at all to MC. Most probably because he helps MC with many hacking perks from the very beginning to help them in finding the suspect. And he also shows how he only trusts MC and is willing to work together with them so MC sees him as a partner not as someone who is scary or creepy at all (despite all the questionable hacked sources ofc). ;) Ofc there are many things about him that are still mysterious to MC and let's hope MC can know more about him. Only to MC especially. :)
He doesn't show his emotion much except when he's with MC so most probably he's an introvert person who will warm up with certain ppl whom he is already familar and feeling close with. Just like how he is with Hannah.
I think Jake is also a curious person. He's curious because MC is like an "X" factor that remains as something unpredictable and surprising to him in so many aspects and layers. He also really appreciates and respect MC. One of the reasons is because he learns many things about MC that he finds endearing to him. For one, he tried to half force MC into the problem He's in and MC has every chance they have to ignore but they choose not to. Next, MC even indirectly, if not directly, defends him from the group and keep his identity and any information about him safe from anyone. MC never blames Jake too much about the problem that comes after. Next, Jake seemed like he never really worked with a partner that he feels close to him before and I mean not physically close but psychologically and he's surprised that he feels that way about MC. (Tbh I didn't expect to fall in love with his character too).
Through these qualities Jake deems MC as a valuable partner he can trust.
He's also a secretly caring and a romantic person. Many times when MC was in trouble he jumped in and helped out without being asked. He also can suddenly type out something or do something that's just simply romantic out of nowhere. That random "Do you like chinese" question and statement about it reminds him of MC. Also how he just blurt out about how his mind can't focus on his task cause his mind always flies back to MC. I find it as romantic, but how he says it in a non flirty and non cringe kind of way... It does tremendous damage to my heart, ack. I find it so charming. (Yes, I'm a sucker for someone who can show that he cares in a non cringey way).
Up to this point, we can assume Jake as someone who can't control his feelings specifically, love. But he seems to be a calm and collected person, usually, maybe unless when it comes to love. :) Remember how he's annoyed because phil called MC for help and he admitted, "Yes. I'm not usually like this."
Accompanying his caring personality is his protective behavior. He protects MC from his pursuers, he created Nymos 💙 He is also so very determined in preventing MC from going to Duskwood at any cost. Also He finds it hard to turn his back on Hannah's case and even if he tried to cut any contact with Hannah, when she asked him for help, he finds it hard to refuse. Does he have hero complex, hmm not really, more like he has the protagonist qualities.
I think he's actually not a brave person inside, that's why he is charmed by how brave MC was pictured in the story. He's afraid of losing someone he loves. But despite not being brave enough, he always tries to act strong and put up a brave front.
When he loves someone he seems to be the type that is gonna go all out or nothing. I give it my all or I don't go at all. :)
I also imagine him as the type who won't easily fall in love. He fell for MC under very exceptional case which makes his love feel exceptional and rare. Maybe he secretly believes in destiny and that he will meet the one for him.
He's also loyal and ofc as we all know, extremely smart. He's mostly rational and not emotional except for some cases that involve people who are important to him.
He's not selfish. He honestly doesn't want to drag people to his mess that's why he pushed away MC at first because he knows it's dangerous to be with him.
I also imagine him as someone who can't be easily impressed by others. (Only when you do very exceptional thing that would impress him, ofc MC always impresses him, but hey Thomas did impress him too, once, if I'm not mistaken).
He's awkward with crowds. He often doesn't know the right words to say so he keeps it short and straightforward. He claimed to be able to handle bad guys and bad situations better ;)
He is honest except for things he needs to keep secret because he thinks it's to protect someone or keeping someone safe. So he does keep secrets but all the things he ever said is honest and the truth. Because everytime MC said "you're keeping something from me aren't you?" He never denies it. So he's not a liar.
He's pretty nerdy too :) why, because he rarely says anything except for the case they're working on or when he's explaining stuff that he's found and he's interested in (flashbacks to when he talks about the history of ironsplinter mine in long lines to MC, lol.)
He's very observant. Maybe part of the perks for being very smart and having a curious mind.
He's not good at reading people but he can take hints and not completely clueless.
He's stubborn alright. He needs some convincings if you want him to do otherwise. And there will be no discussion if it's a matter of MC's safety.
Tumblr media
Yes, you read it right, Jake is NOW OFFLINE. :)
He also has a cute quirk, unique, and special talent for understatements. :D when we told him he was surrounded by his pursuers he just said "This is not good."
I find how he's always typing his words in a formal/serious sentence and ending them with a period as something that is not awkward at all. It's charming and hot. :) And his smileys, and his 'haha.' And 'hehe.' Aaaaa..
So yes, he is a cool, charming, closet romantic introvert kind of person with all those qualities I have mentioned above which make him this complete personality, the Duskwood Hacker Jake that we all come to love. 💙

Can I get a continuation or another pirate au of charlos? Please?
a continuation of this :)
Marc accosts him the moment Carlos emerges from below the deck. "You're a fool," Marc hisses at him under his breath. "A complete fool, Carletes, what were you thinking -"
"You know what I was thinking," Carlos replies in an undertone. "The moment that slaver scum told us who he had on his ship, Marc..." he trails off. Marc still looks angry, his face scrunched up, but his eyes have softened. He knows what Carlos was thinking because he is Carlos' closest friend and confidante, his second-in-command, the man - boy, really, for they were both boys back then, when they ran away from home and everything they knew - who followed him into the unknown with nary a second thought.
Marc sighs. "I know, brother. I still think you're a fool, to risk so much for a spoiled boy who does not even remember you." His hand, when he squeezes Carlos' shoulder, feels too heavy. "But you did always love to play the role of the hero, and I suppose there is no reason that would change just because you're a pirate now." He grins wickedly, and Carlos has learned not to trust that expression on Marc' face ever since it led to them being caught stealing honeyed cakes feom the kitchens and quite severely punished for it when they were five and six respectively. "And he is exactly your type - innocent, clueless, and prettier than the day is long."
"You're a pirate too," Carlos mumbles, feeling his ears heat. "And it's not - he's not - fuck." He fumbles with his words, knowing there's no point lying to Marc.
"You were taken with him even back then." Marc laughs softly. "If I remember correctly, you taught him some words in Spanish, and they were mostly -"
"There's no need to reminisce," Carlos interrupts him. "As much as I would love to listen to you berate me over nonsensical things, we have go get ready. We will be meeting our suppliers soon."
Marc's face turns serious in a blink. It is one of the things Carlos appreciates most in his friend; how quick he is in assessing priorities. Besides, this is personal to Marc, too. The people they are meeting are old acquaintances of theirs, and Carlos knows their Captain is someone Marc is personally acquainted with. He has never pried deeper than that, though, assured by Marc's word that it is all under control.
The unease he feels is still bubbling under his skin. This arrangement must bear fruit, or Carlos' crew will find itself in a lot of trouble, and Carlos does not wish to disappoint his men. Aside from that, he is hosting something - no, someone, two someones if he is to be precise - on his ship below the deck.
Charles Leclerc is far too important to be discovered on his ship. He must be protected at all costs, and Carlos will personally make sure of that.
"Will he finally cease his screaming?" Marc asks, a hint of hunor in his voice.
Carlos chuckles and tries to suoress his shiver at the memory of Charles' body too close to his. "Yes," he replies. "He will obey me."
Marc's eyebrows raise up. "Interesting turn of phrase," he remarks, and walks away to make final preparations before their rendesvous, leaving Carlos alone on the deck.
He turns and leans on the railing, letting his gaze roam over the ocean. It has been his home for almost a decade, ever since he escaped the confines of his comfortable, suffocating home and the constraint of his birth circumstances. He does not regret the decision, not in the slightest. However, sometimes when his heart beats too fast before a dangerous task; sometimes when his head hurts from examining every possible treacherous scenario; sometimes when it is only him and the hazardous waves before him; in those moments, Carlos wishes things could have been at least somewhat different. Perhaps then him and Charles could have met under different circumstances.
They did meet under different circumstances once. They were both very young, mere children. Carlos thinks Arthur was still a baby, but their older brother - Lorenzo, Lorenzo was his name - was old enough to be asked to stay and converse with their and Carlos' father both after dinner. Carlos had retreated to thr gardens after a dismissal from his father, and he was just about to sneak out his book from his hiding place, when an accented voice in Italian had asked him "What are you doing?" in a most simultaneously appealing and self-righteous tone.
It was Charles; of course it was him. He wasn't permitted to attend the dinner, being too young, so he'd escaped his babysitter and found the gardens, where he'd been entertaining himself by drawing on the ground with a stick wetted by the water from the fountain. That explanation would come later, though, only after Carlos demanded Charles explain why he was trespassing and Charles got mortally offended. Carlos is glad and amused to note now that not much has changed through the years in the manner in which Charles expressed his indignation. Additionally, what struck Carlos as most peculiar and fascinating in the past and present both was how bright and beautiful Charles' eyes were.
Carlos concedes Marc's assessment of him being a fool when his heart skios a beat as he thinks of his and Charles' conversation below the dec in the jail cell. He cannot stop thinking of the comely way Charles' skin had looked underneath his thin white shirt, or how rosy and flushed his face got when Carlos enroached on his personal space.
Mostly, he cannot stop thinking of the feel of Charles' warm tongue on Carlos' skin.
His finger feels like it's burning. Almost against his will, he raises it up. There is a very small spot of dark red on it. That is Charles' blood. The blood from his broken, full lip, which Carlos had wiped snd Charles' had licked away from Carlos' finger.
Carlos had never wanted to posess anyone more than he'd wanted to posess Charles in that moment, especially when Charles' emerald eyes turned darker. He'd never wanted to wreck anyone more, to destroy Charles for anyone else who dared even look at him, for anyone who wasn't Carlos.
Before he can think on it, he brings his finger to his lips and licks it.
He mnows Charles' taste is not there. He knows he is merely tasting his own sweat. The drop of blood is enough to add a metallic note to the taste. Carlos thinks of having this part of Charles in him as the wind slaps his face mercilessly. He can still see Charles' wide eyes as he asked You think I'm beautiful, oblivious to the fact that Carlos had never seen a creature more beautiful.
"Captain." Marc's serious voice interrupts him. "We are almost there. We see the Ducatus coming into the Port from the East."
The metallic taste is gone from Carlos' mouth. He feels its phantom presence, much like the too-brief touch of Charles' tongue on his skin.
He cannot afford to be distracted.
"Prepeare for boarding," he orders in a tone that offers no space for questions. "We have ammunition to acquire."
Marc nods in understanding. Carlos tears his thoughts away from the beautiful treasure he has underneath his feet and prepares for negotiations.

holy shit i just realised i asked u to write for shoto and awhile u replied to an anon who sent the exact same thing i did but with the emoji i was about to use but changed last minute…. wtf ANYWAYS PLS WRITE FOR SHOTO 😍😍😍😍😍🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 LOVE UR WORKKKK
Hi!! I’m sorry this took a while to get out, but thank you for your request! Now that it’s Summer I’ll be able to write more and quickly, so even though this is a bit rushed, I hope you like it :)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Pro!Shoto Todoroki x Reader
Warnings: fluff; like it’s basically just fluff; so proud of myself for being able to do a single one-shot without writing smut
Word Count: 0.8k
Tumblr media
The vibration of your phone rumbled over your table, effectively grasping your attention.
A bookmark was quickly placed within your novel, some murder-mystery series that Mina had recommended. While the writing was pretty good, you were almost sure that she enjoyed it primarily for the charming antihero, a move that you both respected and related to.
You picked up your phone, waiting a few seconds for the facial recognition to pick up on your features.
Flitting through a few reminders, you read your most recent notification, eyes lighting up.
“Sho!” You called, voice echoing through your shared apartment.
It only took a few moments for the bathroom door to open, steam slipping through the growing crack to reveal your fiancé. Times like this only reminded you how unconsciously angelical he was, damp hair falling over the scar adorning his features.
“Is everything okay?” He asked, head tilting in a way that was oddly reminiscent of how a confused dog would question his owner. “Did you get scared by the drying going off again."
A towel lay low on his hips, an extra detail that only caused you to momentarily forget why you called him in the first place.
Regardless, you shook the thought off, playfully rolling your eyes and holding your phone up for him to see. “That happened once. And no, look.”
Shoto blinked, gaze traveling from the device back to you. “Twitter?”
“Yes, baby, it’s Twitter, but that’s not what I meant.” You pushed it into his hands. “Scroll.”
He complied, bi-colored eyes scanning for anything that would've caused you to need him.
It took a few seconds for him to recognize the reason for your excitement, gaze flitting back up to meet your smile and outstretched hand.
“Pay up.”
Last year, 'The People's Hero Billboard Chart' had been the last thing on your mind.
At least, that was until Ochako called, her laughter bubbling over the line.
It was mainly run by online voting and polls, awarding the Pro's trivial titles such as 'Best Hair' or, your personal favorite, 'Most Likely To Secretly Be Dating a Villain.'
You never would have expected that Shoto would have been receiving that of 'Best Looking.'
Obviously, you weren't blind.
It was quite apparent that your partner was extremely attractive. However, you weren't exactly one to keep track of social media that didn't include funny animal and/or panda-shaped bread making videos.
But this was just another opportunity to appreciate what you already knew was true.
He wouldn't say it out loud, but the whisper of a smile gracing his lips gave some hint as to how much he enjoyed your doting, a desire that you were more than happy to indulge in.
Your actions sizzled off as the months went by, but it only took the reminder lighting up your screen to resume them.
Despite receiving a nomination, Shoto had waved away your harmless teasing, only leading for it to escalate, something that he only should've expected.
"Can you even win something twice in a row?"
You shrugged, mindlessly sorting certain silverware into its rightful spot. "For most things, I guess."
"Like what?" He asked, handing you another spoon.
"Uh..." You thought about it for a second, all prior knowledge on sports or artistic awards that could have provided an instance suddenly vanishing. "Like, maybe when Gryffindor wins all the damn time in Harry Potter."
"What's that?"
The dislike of your deficient, and fictional, example completely evaded you, the feeling immediately replaced by one that could only be described by blunt shock. "You're joking."
"No." He blinked. "Should I?"
"Yes, I seriously cannot wait to see the giant rock you've been hiding under." You playfully quipped, earning a low chuckle from the man behind you. "But regardless, I'm ready to bet anything that you'll win again. I'll give you whatever you want."
"But I already have everything I want."
His words made your heart flutter, a giddy smile creeping over your features. "There's really nothing that you want from me?"
Tilting his head, he took a moment before giving you a smirk that he only ever put on when you were alone. "I mean-"
Laughing, you nudged his shoulder, trying to hide the slight warmth bleeding into your cheeks.
It didn't matter what he asked of you.
You won.
He smiled softly, blunt honesty doing nothing to hide the subtle excitement hiding in his actions.
Taking your still-outstretched hand, he tossed your phone onto a pillow and pulled himself onto the covers beside you. He gently took your arm and moved it over his torso, your head now resting on his chest.
Shoto would've given you anything that you asked, regardless of whether or not you had won some silly bet.
But time spent with him was really all you wanted.

I have always asked myself why do you ship batjokes? What is the appeal for you with this ship? You like bruce a lot, so why ship him with joker? I am just very, very curious.
Hi! From your question it seems like you associate having a favorite character solely with wanting them to be happy or wanting them to have nice things, which... yes, but also you have to keep in mind that half of Tumblr means this when they say they like a character:
Tumblr media
Which I very much relate to, personally. Bruce Wayne is my favorite character of all time, but I specifically like to read/write about him going through the Horrors.
Shipping Bruce with Joker... well. Perhaps you're familiar with Hannibal NBC, and Hannigram? Death Note, and Lawlight? Or more recently, Interview with the Vampire and Loustat? I could list some more enemies-to-lovers, but it's the same principle. Two bastards who deserve each other and should not inflict themselves on anyone else, hand in unlovable hand.
Still, I appreciate that you're asking me this in good faith, so I'll try to explain in more detail. I got long, so I'll put my answer under the cut. Just a heads-up: there's mention of abuse, depression and some discussion of suicidality (stuff that tends to come up with more in-depth talk of Batjokes in comics), so take care.
While the ships I mentioned also have a portion of fandom going "But A is the good guy! Why would he care about B, who kills people and only seems to make them suffer?", that portion is larger when it comes to Batjokes. Bruce Wayne is Batman-- he's supposed to be a hero, the father figure of a large family, a symbol of hope. And there's a lot to be said about a more idealized or fanon version of Bruce, and the gap between it and the one depicted in comics. But I'm mentioning this gap because it tends to be connected with an unwilligness to deal with, or even acknowledge, Bruce's dark side.
Bruce struggles with violent tendencies, with an unbelievable amount of anger, with control issues, with paranoia and self-hatred and issues with intimacy. He's terrifyingly intelligent and also incredibly manipulative when he wants to be. He's canonically been abusive to his adopted children and he's canonically been shown to have quite the sadistic streak. And while I understand why some fans see this as bad writing (to be fair, sometimes it just is), reinterpret parts of it or pretend it doesn't exist... it is there, and it is a pattern. Many of these darker aspects of Bruce's personality are a result of how he's processed his trauma-- refusing to heal is literally the fuel for being Batman. But refusing to face his grief has consequences, and some of them inevitably end up ricocheting off his loved ones; though I am saying this as an explanation, not an excuse.
The way he's been written seems to have spawned two larger attitudes in Tumblr fandom, varying in degree and nuance: either refusing to deal with Bruce's dark side, or only seeing his dark side and hating his character entirely. And obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preference, as long as they respect others'. But to me personally, it's never been black-and-white. One of the best parts about Bruce's character is the very conflict at the heart of him... because despite everything I mentioned, Bruce always tries to do better. He's also empathetic and compassionate; he hungers for love and for connection, and he constantly tries to help people and do good. In my eyes, that's what Batman is about: never giving up. You fail, but you get back up and you try again. You might be struggling with so many things threatening to drag you under, but you make the effort to do good. To me that's deeply inspirational, specifically because it's not second nature to Bruce.
If you prefer a version of Bruce that doesn't have much of a dark side, Batjokes is likely not something you'll enjoy. Bruce caring about Joker is very much connected to it. He deeply relates to Joker because their identities are both born out of their traumas. They could have become the other, and that's a level of closeness and intertwining that cannot be understated. In the face of their loved ones being taken away, Bruce and whoever Joker used to be made choices in the opposite direction. Bruce chose to force meaning onto the world and be defined by his past. He chose to channel his anger into ensuring no one else goes through what he went through. Joker had the same anger, but he chose to erase his own past and burn the world down instead. He chose to ensure everyone else goes through the same horror he went through, to prove nothing has meaning.
And this is, at the end of the day, the reason why Batman never lets Joker die, even when it doesn't make sense. Joker's existence makes Bruce feel less alone-- and yes, it is very selfish of him to choose this over the lives of others and despite what Joker has done, but it is what it is. I've seen people discredit this notion of Joker being Batman's friend as stupid, because Bruce already has so many allies and such an extensive Family; how could he feel alone? He already has so many relationships, people he cares about and who care about him. But... that's never how it works, is it? You don't choose to feel the way you feel. Bruce loves the people around him, and those relationships ground him in very meaningful ways, but that doesn't make the darkness disappear. He wishes it did. But his choice to be Batman is a choice to keep hurting, like I just described. It sets him apart. And the line it puts him on, the things he's balancing, are things Joker intimately understands. Joker is his shadow and his creation, his negative. Bruce's anger and his sadistic violence get channeled in his relationship with Joker, and the worse Joker gets the better Batman has to become, and viceversa. I see it a bit like magic (and Bruce does too, when he talks about how he's afraid that if Joker disappeared, Gotham would send him someone worse). You cannot perform magic without it exacting a price, and the price for Bruce's good is Joker's evil. Lives are saved, but then lives are taken away.
What I am describing here is the appeal of the ship to me. In many ways, romantic is not nearly enough to describe it; I'm just fascinated by their dynamic, any form it takes. Batman and Joker have been opposites and narrative foils for almost a century, and I'll probably never run out of stuff to analyze (yay!). There's so many stories with them, so many different incarnations of them, so many layers and complications that their dynamic has accumulated, simply by virtue of how old and mythical they have become.
The more accurate description for them is probably soulmates, but the most painful kind-- destined to always meet but to always be at war, never able to kill the other or let the other go, because they are two sides of the same coin. And there's an attraction to not being able to let go, no matter how high the bodies pile up. Bruce can't kill Joker without losing himself, and he can't let Joker die. Joker can't kill Batman or let him die without losing his life's meaning. No matter what, the other is always there. They hate and resent this connection plenty, but at the end of the day, the other's existence is an essential comfort they can't run away from.
And thing is, Bruce sacrifices so much for his crusade as Batman. He sacrifices his very childhood and self, his potential happiness; he distances himself from his loved ones and he pushes them away. He represses as much as he is able to so he can go on, so he can save as many people as possible, so he can rewrite the trauma that broke him. But he chases Joker. He obsesses over Joker like over no one else. He chooses to keep Joker alive, even when it hurts his Family and even when it leads to more and more death.
Joker is a connection he selfishly chooses, and doesn't run away from, especially because it hurts. Both Bruce and Joker are self-hating and suicidal, so they allow themselves this one thing precisely because it's destroying them both. Yet, no matter what, part of Bruce sees in Joker someone who suffers, someone who understands, and he keeps trying to reach out to him because of it. It's not just the worst parts of Bruce that resonate with Joker. It's also his hope. Somewhere deep down he can't let go of the idea that maybe, Joker could be better, and if Joker could be better, maybe he could be better too.
...I guess I ship them because I want Bruce to get what he wants. Whether it's dying alongside Joker in a cave, or them helping each other heal, in spite of everything (both of these are plots for stories Scott Snyder has written, hah). Because the thing about Batjokes is that they're perhaps the only people on Earth who could get the other to stop. The easiest way is the way they've already chosen-- by being the one to kill the other. They both see death as the ultimate form of peace, a laying down of arms. But there's also the reverse; the possibility of a world in which neither of them has to die. A world in which they're not each other's preferred method of suicide, but in which they actually learn to live again, helped by the other.
I tend to oscillate between the two. I like Batjokes as an unmitigated tragedy with a course that cannot be diverted, and I like Batjokes as the most unlikely path to a form of peace. Both can provide catharsis in different ways. On a symbolic level, Joker is fighting for meaninglessness and Batman is fighting for meaning; Joker asks, "What is the point?" and Batman answers, "The fight is the point." On an individual level, they're both depressed and suffering from PTSD and always a hairbreadth away from self-destruction, but they keep each other alive, no matter how much it hurts. You can probably imagine how this ship can be a comfort, for people with similar struggles.
I do hope this satisfied your curiosity, Anon. Batjokes might still not be your cup of tea and that's okay, but as someone who likes to read about other ships and the psychology behind them, I hope this was at least a fun read. You seem like you're familiar with my blog already, but just in case you want to seek out canonical instances of what I am describing, I can point you to this compilation of Bruce's side of things that mentions part of what I say here, but also delves into comics. And my Batjokes meta tag is full of similar stuff, some detailing Joker's side too.
